Starting point is 00:00:00 we get into that today let's get straight into our weekly review this week i have been trying to adopt a new work balance with my routine i feel like it's very easy if you work for yourself to have a not so great work balance and that's something where i'm trying to work on right now and i feel like a lot of us are trying to work in having a good work balance so that's something i have been trying to do another thing this week is a full spring reset if you tuned into last week's episode you know we talked all about how to have the perfect spring reset and overall just get back on routine and get back on track, which I feel like we all need right now. The New Year's resolutions kind of wear off and we need to revamp our resolutions, our goals, our intentions, and get back to work.
Starting point is 00:00:45 And lastly, this week is I have been planning for spring and of course the summer. I'm really trying to go to Nantucket for the summer. So that's what I'm trying to look into right now. Now on two of my current obsessions. My current obsessions right now is a breakfast bowls, specifically, the one from Bluestone Lane is my favorite. It's like avocado, kale, quinoa, chicken, feta. I'm trying to make it at home, but sometimes you try to replicate something from a restaurant, and it never turns out the same. It never is as good as the restaurant, sadly. So that is something I'm trying to master at home, but it's so good and so healthy, and I really recommend you trying to make it at home. And another current obsession right now is heated workout classes. I am on a little heated workout class kick.
Starting point is 00:01:32 I'm someone who never had a desire to work out. Love Pilates, one of my favorites, but also love low impact heated workouts. I feel like they're super nice and I don't know. I just have been loving it and I've been excited to work out lately, which is a really great place to be. And lastly for my current obsession right now is K-beauty skincare. I feel like K-beauts are just so good for your skin and it just has cleaner ingredients it tends to have and for me it really helps my sensitive skin so that's what i've been obsessed with now on to the goal of the week my goal of the week right now is to release tension from my neck i feel like i hold so much tension in my neck which we all do and something that is really funny but i've been loving to do is i get one of the kora heating pads
Starting point is 00:02:21 like for your ovaries. It's like you put them right on your stomach for when you're on your period. But I put them on the back of my neck when I'm like stressed or have tension. And I swear it's the perfect little heating pad, even though it's kind of shaped like a pad. It kind of looks like, but it's perfect. I slap it on my neck and it honestly helps my neck tension so much. Another goal of the week right now is to schedule better. I want to be better on schedule, whether that's planning and Google Docs or Notion, which I really heard
Starting point is 00:02:50 it's good so I want to get into planning over there or I do love a just pen and paper notepad schedule so definitely trying to be more scheduled and lastly for my goal of the week is to try out a recipe from a cookbook I love doing recipes from a cookbook so trying to buy the ingredients doing a cookbook one and getting off my phone and not even looking at a visual video of how to make a recipe but doing it solely from text on a cookbook now onto a self-love question how will a show up for myself today when things get hard. I love that question so much and I really recommend asking yourself that and journaling it. Now and to the affirmation. When a door closes this spring, a new one that is better will open. I love that affirmation so much because truly when something
Starting point is 00:03:38 doesn't work out whether it's rejection or, well, we will really get into this topic today, but whether it's rejection or just an opportunity comes to an end, it can feel very discouraging. But this is your reminder that it is meant to happen. It's not happening to you. It's happening for you. So there's something even better on its way to you. And lastly, for a podcast review. If you want to be featured on next week's episode,
Starting point is 00:04:03 make sure to leave a podcast review over Apple Podcasts and rate over Spotify. I kid you not, it helps the show so much. And if I could ask one thing of you, that would be my one thing I ask because it really does help the show. This review is from Isabel. And Isabel said, I love this podcast so much.
Starting point is 00:04:21 I found it last December as I started getting ready to set New Year's intentions and now I've gone back and listened to a ton of old episodes too. Already has helped me motivate me to live my best life and focus on gratitude. Thank you so much. And she titled her podcast review, Best Podcasts for College Girls. Thank you so much, Isabelle. This review made my day and I love how you got hooked on the resolution episode and then went back and watched past episodes because
Starting point is 00:04:49 we have a back catalog here of lots of things that can motivate you. So thank you so much and I'm so grateful for you. Without further ado, it is time to get into today's episode. So as we were saying earlier, today's episode is all about how to find what you're meant for and navigating career paths. It can feel so daunting and intimidating when you're stuck not knowing what job you're meant for in life or what career that you're meant to have. And again, I feel like so many of us feel this way, especially.
Starting point is 00:05:19 after we are around maybe in our 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, I mean, I know that's a big range, but I feel like that is an area where we're kind of like, well, what are we meant for? What job am I meant for? What career? And lucky for you, you may not have one career that you settle for for the rest of your life because you don't have to have just one career. I feel like that's something that society makes us think that we need one career, whether that's going to be a doctor or something.
Starting point is 00:05:47 And again, our career does not define us. Our job does not define us. And the best thing about you is that you are capable of having any job that you want, multiple different jobs, anything, okay? You can be a doctor for a few years and then be like, you know what? I want to be an artist now. You can do anything you want. No one should be holding you back.
Starting point is 00:06:09 And you could have 30 different jobs in your life if that's what you want. Ina Garden, one of my favorite people ever. Ina Garden, she worked in the White House, and then she opened a specialty food store. She also worked as like a front desk person, and then she also wrote a cookbook. She became an author, and she had her own show and podcast. So let me just break that down for you. Look how many different career paths and jobs she's had, okay? She is still creating.
Starting point is 00:06:39 She's still doing more. Okay, let me give you another example. Walt Disney. He was rejected, Walt Disney, the, Disney man was rejected many times due to lack of imagination and at 53 years old, 53, he created Disneyland, okay? Think about that. Whatever age you are at, it does not matter. Some people make their businesses and start their business that takes off at 80 years old. Martha Stewart was 41 when she wrote her first cookbook. You don't need to know your entire career path for the rest of your life right now.
Starting point is 00:07:13 okay it can feel like we need to know what's going on for the rest of our life we need to know what career we're supposed to have you don't need to know everything and you're not going to know everything all you need to focus on is the now stop trying to plan out your life so many years ahead where there's no room for spontaneous new opportunities no things are going to open up throughout time one year from now could be a completely different position where you're at right now but if you're trying to plan out everything ahead of time, one, you're going to stress yourself out because it's not going to be helpful. And most likely you're not going to end up exactly where you put yourself in your imagination
Starting point is 00:07:50 to be 10 years from now. So what you have to do is focus on the now because careers and jobs flow. What's meant for you will find you. And I promise you that. But you cannot be intimidated by careers and jobs. I cannot stress this enough. You have to be your own advocate and not be scared to try. You can be scared, okay?
Starting point is 00:08:09 you can be scared, but all that matters is that you try. Because if you don't try, the answers automatically no. And with not being scared to try is you have to keep trying things until something sticks because let me tell you, you're not going to probably find the perfect job or perfect career path for you within the first few jobs. You're probably not. So some extremely successful people even didn't find their purpose. And I'm referring to purpose as their time they spent on their job until their 80s.
Starting point is 00:08:38 Let's talk about purpose and what you're meant for for your career path. We often as a kid dream of having a job or a career through the lens of passion. Maybe you want to become a veterinarian. And why do you want to become that as you were a kid? Because you love animals. You love dogs. You love dogs and you want to help them. Maybe when you're a kid, you want to become an astronaut.
Starting point is 00:09:00 Why do you want to become one when you're younger at that age? Because you're thinking how much you love space and you love the stars and you love all of that. then you get older, you grow a few years, and then reality hits you, and then you start living life and realize, okay, living is not cheap and you actually have to have a sustainable job and try to support yourself, and there's not a lot of time to spare, whether that's for education or learning, and then you start to look at jobs and careers through the lens of money security. Okay, here's a thing. You don't necessarily want money in life. When people say, I want to become rich, I want to become rich.
Starting point is 00:09:37 I want a big house. I want this. Yes, you want that, but you're also, what you're wanting is security. You're not wanting money. Money on paper, what does that do? That does nothing. But you know what it does do? It brings you security.
Starting point is 00:09:49 It brings you buying things that you love. So when we get older, we start to look at jobs and careers through the lens of what is going to make us have security to be able to support ourselves rather than looking at it as a passion because maybe you want to become an artist and the reality hits you when you're older thinking, you know what, the majority of artists don't make much money, I just want security more than I want to fulfill my passion. So you're going to go reach for a corporate job because that's going to give you some more security than maybe being an artist. Let me preface and say, I understand that you need a job to support you financially to live and I encourage you to have
Starting point is 00:10:30 that. But at the same time, do not lose your passion. You had a passion, whether that was from being younger that you had a passion that you wanted to be a certain thing or you got your passion recently in your years and started to figure out what you're wanting to do. But if you have a passion, do not lose it. Even if you can't fulfill that passion yet because of financially or because of you're not able to go to school for that yet because you don't have the money, whatever it is, do not lose that passion. Maybe for you, you need to work a nine to five corporate job to financially support yourself, but continue prioritizing your passion project on the side. It doesn't need to count as a job yet, because if you're not making money from something, it's not a job. It's a project and it's a
Starting point is 00:11:16 passion. It's a hobby. But here's the thing. You can one day turn that passion project, that hobby, into your job, your full time. Use your off hours when you're not working, even if you're tired from after work or you have your weekends that you want to just chill out. Use some of that time to invest in that career. If that was being an artist for you, start doing more projects and putting it out there. Maybe show it on social media. Start posting it. Doing things to invest in that side project can easily one day make it become your full time. Let me remind you that life does not work without purpose and passion. If you're working a job that you dread and you absolutely hate it, but it pays you $200,000 a year, at the end of the day, you're still going to be unhappy. Even though it's giving you that
Starting point is 00:12:05 financial security, paying you $200,000 a year, if you wake up every single day dreading that job, what is that serving you? It's serving you nothing. Yes, you're making money, but again, you want to be happy. Our goal is to be happy in life, not to make money. Of course, money is a goal because we want it to buy us happiness, to buy us security. But at the end of the day, day we're wanting to be happy. That's why we're wanting money for to buy us things that are going to make us happy. But certain things cannot buy happiness. Being at a job, even if it pays $200,000 a year, is not going to bring you happiness if you wake up every day dreading it. My family knows someone who was a chef at a top restaurant getting generously paid, but he was
Starting point is 00:12:51 very unhappy at his job. So he quit that industry and that career that he had that was a dream for some people and instead began working his dream on a farm. He wanted to be on, he wanted to be a farmer. He wanted to work on the farms. And at the end of the day, he's happy. Even though he was working a dream job for some people, getting generously paid, working at a top restaurant, that was not making him happy at the end of the day. Money can buy a lot of things such as security and cars and houses and everything, but at the end of the day, money cannot buy happiness. But again, Like I said, do not quit your 9 to 5 job if that's what's giving you security to go fulfill your passion.
Starting point is 00:13:34 You have to support yourself, especially in this economy. I swear the things that don't do not get me started with the price of eggs, okay? When we go to the store in L.A. $14. No, we cannot talk about that. Okay. Love Airwan, but when I went in there the other day, strawberries, strawberries, a little pack strawberries, $22. Anyways, moving on, what I'm trying to say is, in this economy, inflation, you have to support yourself. You have to have a job that's going to give you security.
Starting point is 00:14:06 So don't quit that job yet, yet until you're able to make your passion a full-time job. But what I'm trying to say is have your job that's going to give you security, but at that same time, continue investing in your passion to one day make it your full-time. Now, I can't be the only one who has this like dream item of theirs that they always see, whether it's a bag, a sweater, a top, and you're like, I just need that, but it's like sold out everywhere. That's me with this one, vintage, Duny, and Burke bag. I literally was looking everywhere for it, and I somehow found one on a Poshmark. But not just one. I found multiple of them at such a good price, and I was like, wait, this is just too good to be true.
Starting point is 00:14:51 So if you know me, you know I am a Poshmark girl. Poshmark is a marketplace where you can list and see. sell as well as buy new items vintage pieces gently used luxury pieces they really just have it all and i feel like there's no better time to go on poshmark now everyone's cleaning out their closet and listing good things get in bed get cozy and go in poshmark to add to your new spring wardrobe new deals and sales are listed every day so don't wait download the poshmark app and use code busy when you sign up to get $10 off your first purchase or shop now at poshmark.com slash busy and get $10 off your first purchase. Starting point is 00:15:41 item of theirs that they always see whether it's a bag, a sweater, a top and you're like, I just need that, but it's like sold out everywhere. That's me with this one, vintage, Duny and Burke bag. I literally was looking everywhere for it and I somehow found one on a posh mark. But not just one. I found multiple of them at such a good price and I was like, Wait, this is just too good to be true. So if you know me, you know I am a Poshmark girl. Get in bed, get cozy, and go on Poshmark to add to your new spring wardrobe. New deals and sales are listed every day, so don't wait. Starting point is 00:16:46 Now when it comes to career paths, whether you're working a job that you like or working a job that you hate, sometimes we get a spark in imagination and we think, what if I just quit this job and decided to move to Paris and become a barista? You know, a random. them different thing. It could be a totally different career path. I want you to never be ashamed of changing career paths. I've forever said since I was younger that I want to have a clothing line and I 100% still do, but I also at the same time have other passions right now that are even larger than that, whether that's me making a home and lifestyle brand or a line of hosting decor and essentials. Some of my passions now outweigh that one passion I used to have, which is having a clothing line.
Starting point is 00:17:37 If this is something that maybe you're experiencing where you had a passion once, and then you're kind of having now a realization that there's some other things that are overtaking that passion, let me tell you something. If you try to upkeep working for something that you don't even want because you're not passionate about it, you will not be successful in it. You will not be happy in it because it's forced at the end of the day. If you put your action and effort where your passion is, it will show and it will work. Maybe your parents wanted you to be a doctor.
Starting point is 00:18:07 So you tried becoming a doctor and you're working as a doctor. Pays great. You absolutely hate it. It's not working for you. You're not happy because you don't want it yourself. If you're doing something for somebody else, it will not work. You're not going to be happy. It's not going to work at the end of the day.
Starting point is 00:18:24 Stop living out someone else's dream and someone else's goal. because that's not yours. That's theirs and leave it to them. They don't have to like what you want to do. If you want to become something completely different than what someone else wants for you, whether that's your parents or your significant other, it doesn't matter.
Starting point is 00:18:41 They can go do it. But let yourself enjoy and do what you want to do because remember, this is your life at the end of the day. You were born into this one life with you. You were born into here with you and you're going to die with just you. You're not going to die with someone else. You have to start living for your life.
Starting point is 00:18:58 yourself and not someone else. And now when it comes to careers, maybe you actually have not even one clue what you want to do for your career. Let me tell you something. You don't need to know right now. But I advise you to put yourself out there and have experience. Experience is the best school in teaching that you could ever have, ever get. I'm telling you it's priceless. It's better than any textbook, better than any school, going and having experience, taking yourself somewhere, going to be an intern. Go apply to have an internship or volunteer somewhere. Even if you're not going to get paid, go do it because you're getting your foot in the door for opportunities to come. And you're going to see, do I really like this? Is this something I want to do for a good while?
Starting point is 00:19:42 If you're curious about maybe being a social media manager, reach out to a brand and ask, hey, are you taking internships? Would love to help or would love to shadow someone and see how someone else does it. Maybe you want to work at a restaurant, volunteer to help out at the restaurant or apply to be a waitress. Internships and volunteering will give you the perfect trial to see what you like and what you don't like without any specific commitment. Because sometimes, you know, when you go into a job, you don't want to go into it thinking, I'm going to quit soon. You want to go into it as, you know, I'm going to be here for a while. You need to be curious and look around what are people doing that you can enjoy. Again, you don't have to commit to something and commit to a career.
Starting point is 00:20:24 your entire life. You can take a job if you want and only work for it for a few months. You don't have to think, you know, I'm going to be a waitress for the rest of my life or I'm going to work a corporate job for the rest of my life. This is right now. Again, think of right now and focus on what can you do to fulfill your other passions. But in your mind, stop consciously signing off in your head that this is the rest of your life. You can stop any time and rewrite your path. Also, never look at a job or career on a pedestal. You are always worthy of whatever job, whatever career that you want. Of course, you may not get it overnight and it may take some time to get there. You may have to go to
Starting point is 00:21:05 school for it for a few years, but you deserve it just as much as somebody else. Don't let your nerves and scaredness hold you back from applying to a job or trying out a new career path because here's the thing. Not trying, not applying is an instant no. But if you try, You know, you have a 50-50 shot. Maybe they'll say yes. Maybe they say no. What's the biggest deal if they say no? Rejection?
Starting point is 00:21:31 Okay. And that's not a big deal. Okay, then you move to something else. Rejection is not a no. Okay? Rejection can be, maybe they said no. But it can also be maybe in a few months, maybe in a year. Re-apply again.
Starting point is 00:21:46 They could have said no once. Come back the next month. When they see consistency, they know that you're actually serious about it. maybe you're trying a new career path you know what it's not working out that great but it doesn't matter guess what it's redirecting you wouldn't you rather try and get a no rather than not try and then just think about it and think about it because maybe you try and it's a yes maybe you try and it's life changing it changes your life it changes your income and you're finally happy i was rejected by a college when i applied the one college i applied to a few years back and I applied to FIT in New York City and thank gosh that I was not accepted.
Starting point is 00:22:30 If I was accepted, it would not have brought me to where I am today because when I wasn't accepted, it was, yes, it was a rejection, but it wasn't rejection. It was redirected me to where I am today. I would not be living the life if I went to the school. I would not be living the same life because hearing that official, unfortunately, Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate your admission is what prompted me to move to L.A. And then what did L.A. bring me? It brought me something that I would never have been able to get if I ended up going the direction of being accepted into the college and going that way.
Starting point is 00:23:07 When one door or a few doors closes for you, a better new one is opening. Lastly, when it comes to job interviews, in job interviews, I know it's very easy to be nervous. We all get nervous. We all get the sweats and the heart palpitations. But let me remind you that nobody knows you're nervous unless you show it. You know the term fake it till you make it. That's what you need to do. Act like you're confident and they will believe you are confident.
Starting point is 00:23:36 Trust me firsthand, I feel so much of my confidence since I was younger, acting like the person I want to become. And then I slowly started to become that person because I started believing it from doing the actions of acting like I was confident. acting like I was happy, acting like things, and then I finally start to find that inside of me. Careers and finding your purpose and what you're really meant for is a process. You're not most likely going to find it overnight, okay? You're not going to wake up one day and think this is the right career. Trial and error will be your best friend. You don't have to dedicate your entire life to one career path.
Starting point is 00:24:11 Be open to everything and it's going to lead you to the right path. Be your own advocate. You are your own best friend. And you are the person who is going to get you to the life that you want and become the person you want to become. Not someone else. Don't rely on the validation of someone else to think, is this the right job and wait for them to say yes or no?
Starting point is 00:24:31 No. You decide. You see, are you happy here? Are you happy doing this? Do you know what you want to do? Take time to look around. See what other people are doing. Maybe your friend has a job that they love and you have no clue what you want to do.
Starting point is 00:24:45 Go try to volunteer where they're working at. Be curious. take charge and be your own advocate because I promise you you will find your purpose. You just have to try. I love you so much and I hope you enjoyed this episode as much as I did recording it. Careers and navigating what we, our purposes and what we want to do can be very intimidating. And this episode was to remind you that it is not a problem and feeling that just you have so many of us are in this position.
Starting point is 00:25:15 So I hope this gives you some comfort and way of direction on how. how to move forward from here to find maybe what you're meant for. If you enjoy this episode, please share over TikTok and your Instagram story. It helps the show drastically and also share it with a friend. And if you do, let me know who you shared it with because I love hearing all the new people who listen to the show. Thank you so much for tuning in. I'm so, so beyond proud of you. If an opportunity doesn't knock, build a door.
Starting point is 00:25:43 And do not forget to stay busy yet pretty.
