Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello, my love. Welcome back to the Busy Yet Pretty Podcasts or welcome to the Busy Yet Pretty Podcast. I'm your host, Jaden Haley. If you're new here, I talk all about how to become the best version of you, romanticize your routines, the new seasons. I love seasons and just trying to figure out how to make my days enjoyable and actually be excited to wake up in the morning. I'm so happy to have you here and today is in fact a seasonal episode, which these are my favorite types of episodes to make. Some may say we're a little early, some may say that I'm just on time, but honestly, as much as I enjoyed summer, I am ready to tap into fall. As you can see, today's episode is going to be on a cozy girl fall. So we're going to talk about how to romanticize the season,
Starting point is 00:00:53 some fall favorites and autumn to-do list slash an autumn bucket list. Of course, I'm not going to say go to the pumpkin patch because that's probably not even open for you yet because we're still closing out summer. But I feel like this is going to be the perfect transitional to fall episode of realistic things that you can do to make it feel like fall and get excited about the new season instead of feeling sad that summer's over or maybe you're going back to school. So not feeling sad that you have to go back to school, but excited for the new season. So with that said, let's get into our weekly review. This week I have just been even myself transitioning into fall and just closing out summer. I haven't been necessarily just like crossing out summer, but just more of getting excited
Starting point is 00:01:36 about the new season. And I'm trying to just change my current explorer page. It's very summer coded, so I'm trying to make it fall coded right now. Another thing this week is I have been choosing intentionally balance over the all or nothing mindset. And I cannot tell you how much more fulfilled and productive I feel when choosing a balanced mindset. And it's very hard to get rid of that all or nothing mindset, but just trying to be cautious of your thoughts. And I can't tell you. and being aware to think positively and also not be hard on yourself. Many times we get off routine and then we just start reading ourselves up, but that's going to do nothing but set us behind.
Starting point is 00:02:10 Someone said we need to know how to move on and just look forward to the next thing. You don't have to start tomorrow. You can start again today. And lastly, this week is I have just been feeling inspired for the new season. Now on to the current obsessions. My current obsession right now is warm machas in the morning. I have just been trying to transition into my warm. drinks. I love an ice drink, but now I'm just transitioning into warm drinks despite the hot weather.
Starting point is 00:02:37 It is still very hot outside, but I'm okay with that. I'm okay with a hot drink in a hot weather. Another current obsession of the week is baking for my family. I'm gluten-free, so I can't have other baked goods that aren't gluten-free, but I love baking even gluten things for my family, and it just makes me happy when I get to provide something fun for someone else. Even if that means I cannot eat it. And my last current obsession of the week is puff sleeve dresses. I just love a puffed sleeve. I truly just think it looks so chic. Now on to the goal of the week. The goal of the week is to plan a fall night and to kick off the season. I feel like I do this every season, but anytime there is a new season, whether it's winter or fall, I will just try to plan a little
Starting point is 00:03:23 fun night to kind of like initiate the new season. So I want to plan a little fall night to kick off the new autumn feeling. I just want to get cozy. I have a pumpkin spice latte. I don't care if that sounds basic. I will shamelessly embrace that. I don't care. But have like a pumpkin spice latte. And to me, the ultimate fall show is Gilmore Girl. So I want to rewatch it for the second time. Another goal of the week right now is to start waking up at 5 a.m. I love waking up early. But honestly, I want to get onto waking up even earlier, especially in the wintertime. I feel like it's so cozy to wake up so early and my last goal of the week is to attempt running i am someone who just loves lightweights and i love to walk but i don't love to run it hurts my knees i'll be honest and honestly i don't feel like
Starting point is 00:04:12 i'm fit and in shape to run like my body hasn't done like cardio like that in a while so i do want to start trying to run again and i feel like that's something i want to challenge myself to do this week even if i do a half mile like a half mile is better than no miles at all now until your affirmation of the week. I'm going to feel truly seasonal this fall. I love that so much because many times we often just look past the season due to stress with our work or our school and I feel like we just need to affirm that to herself that we are going to feel truly seasonal this fall and truly just feel fulfilled in how our daily life is plus incorporating the season into it. Now unto yourself of question of the week, what do I want the version of myself to look like at the end of
Starting point is 00:04:58 fall. I love that so much because as much as I love goals for the year, I think something like goals for the season can be really helpful in managing your goals and having more shorter term goals to work towards and it's more realistic goals. So every new start of the season, I love to just set some goals that I have in mind. And it truly just makes me so motivated to achieve them and look back at my progress when the new season rolls around. Now on to the Apple podcast review, If you want to be featured on next week's episode, make sure to leave a podcast review over Apple Podcasts and a rating over Spotify. This review is from Fatima, and Fatima said, Hi, Jaden, I just wanted to say how much I love busy at pretty.
Starting point is 00:05:39 Your podcast genuinely helps me get my life back together when I'm feeling all over the place. And I always leave your episodes feeling motivated and inspired. I love how comforting and relatable your podcast is, and I've taken so much inspiration from you. Thank you for creating such a lovely space, your work, does make a difference. Fatima, that makes me so happy to hear and I am so grateful to just know that the podcast has helped you. Again, I always say this, but this is exactly why I have the show to make you feel motivated and inspired to just improve your day and to improve just your life in general to make you excited to wake up every day. So I'm so glad you're loving the episodes
Starting point is 00:06:18 and I'm very excited for you to hear this one. So without further ado, it is time to get into today's episode. As I said earlier, today's episode is going to be a cozy girl fall. So we're going to talk about how you can romanticize the season, some fall favorites, and just an autumn to-do list, and an autumn bucket list. I just have so many ideas and so many notes. So I'm so excited to get into today's episode. So first up, let's talk about the transition from summer to fall. I think that we should just collectively let summer fade slowly instead of trying to force a full seasonal switch because one, that's going to cause a lot of pressure for us to feel that all or nothingness of trying to get from summer to fall and just isn't organic. Like we want to just
Starting point is 00:07:01 be excited about the new season, but at the same time, we are transitioning out of summer. So we don't need to make a switch overnight where we don't have to have a full fall wardrobe overnight, let alone have a full mindset of feeling like fall. Because I guarantee you, the world isn't all going to be tapped into fall right now. So the best way to start doing this is, it's to start bringing in cozy elements while keeping that summer energy. So you can kind of think like late summer glow meets early fall coziness. It's almost kind of like we're romanticizing the in-between season. So still enjoying those warm afternoons and cooler mornings,
Starting point is 00:07:38 still continuing to keep your outdoor plans that you have, but also adding in cozy evenings at home. And overall, just letting your routine evolve naturally with the season. Because there's no point of trying to force, unorganically, a new season overnight. It just isn't going to work. And why do that in general? So let's talk about creating your full vision. So I want you to choose how you want the next few months to feel. Some of the best ways to do that is just make a seasonal mood board over Pinterest or pick a few words for your like fall energy that you want to embody. I love to make a new
Starting point is 00:08:13 Pinterest board every new season. And then I'll kind of like pick out my favorite photos and make a collage and then make it as my wallpaper on my phone. Same with my computer. So every time I go on my phone or my computer, it just gives me that seasonal feel to see, okay, I see like fall leaves and a pumpkin and all those like fall accessories and cute things on my wallpaper. And when it comes to a fall, like a fall reset, I feel like during the winter in like fall time, during like the fall in wintertime is where we kind of have this like soft girl era. I feel like, mostly in the spring and summer. We're more upbeat, we're motivated.
Starting point is 00:08:52 And then, of course, once it gets colder, we just get a little more tired. We get more, like, wanting to tap into coziness, which I think is so important to do. But in these slower months of fall and winter, I think that we should have a soft fall reset. So it's not something that's really pressureful, but more just refreshing our space for the new season. So let's refresh our bedroom without completely redecorating it. Instead of trying to change your bedroom overnight, you do not need to do that for the new season. What you can do is maybe move out some summer colors if you want, put those to storage or put those in a different room under your bed, and maybe get out some like fall style blankets and some fall pillows.
Starting point is 00:09:33 Another thing you could do is organize your closet and just transition seasonal pieces. So maybe there's some summer pieces you know you're not going to wear again until spring and summer. Put those away into a little storage box and take out your, like, like fall cozy sweaters. Another thing to do is declutter anything that no longer feels like you. I personally am a hoarder. Like I have a genuine hard time and it's it's something that I genuinely don't like about myself and I try to not be this way. But that's something I'm trying to actively work on is to not be such a hoarder and trying to let go of things. So what I'm trying to do that you can do as well is let go of things that you know you're not going to wear anymore or you know that
Starting point is 00:10:13 just that doesn't serve you anymore. I'd love to keep things and think, okay, just in case, what if I wear this again? And yes, there are many times I end up wearing it again, but at the same time, there's so many things I've kept onto that I didn't need to keep, that is just taken up storage and time and leaving me feeling disorganized and cluttered
Starting point is 00:10:32 that I could have just let go years ago. When it comes to slowly cozying up your home, you can add like a throat blanket or a soft bedding onto your bed, maybe bring in some warmer textures and settle seasonal decor. I used to love, like, when I was like younger in middle school, I would be like such a DIY girl. I would love to, I watched like Bethany Moda. That was my girl I watched. And I just love DIY crafts.
Starting point is 00:10:58 And I remember just crafting so many things in the new season. But I no longer do that. But I love to shop fun little like cute things at cute vintage shops or home goods, T.J. Max, all those places. for cute little home decor pieces. But let me just remind you, there are so many cute, budget-friendly home decor pieces that can add to your room and your home that makes such a difference on your mood.
Starting point is 00:11:22 Again, you don't need to spend $300 on decor. You can spend literally $10 on a few decor pieces or even craft something up at home. And I guarantee you, it just is going to make you feel more inspired and feeling more fulfilled for the new season. But my point of saying of when I used to craft a ton of like seasonal decor when I was younger.
Starting point is 00:11:43 It brought me so much joy seeing that every morning when I woke up. I would literally fill a little mason jar with like a little lights and a lantern. And I put like a pumpkin on it and stuff. But all those things made me so happy. It really did make me so happy looking at them every day, putting the lights on. And you can do that for yourself. You don't have to have a lot of money to decorate your room or your home. You can do little things literally for what you already have.
Starting point is 00:12:10 than what you already own. Maybe if you're a candle lover, you can start switching gradually from like fresh, summery scents to more cozy scents. I love a fall scent. I just feel like there's nothing more cozy in fall than having a candle lit or like nice cozy essential oils going
Starting point is 00:12:28 when you're in your room and in your home. It truly just feels so nice. Something that also is very underrated is a simmer pot. I would do this all fall and winter every single season, but you can add like cinnamon cloves like cinnamon sticks apples oranges and put it in a pot with water or apple cider and it literally makes your home and your room and your place just smells so nice and fall it truly beats any candle on the market and on top of that it really just doesn't cost that much to make a simmer pot and the biggest plus out of anything is you can literally drink it afterwards so after you simmer it throughout the day you can just make like a cup of warm cider with that.
Starting point is 00:13:13 So you really just get so many benefits out of it. A good smelling house, a good drink, and it's budget-friendly. Transitioning into your wardrobe is the same way. You do not need to have a new fall wardrobe overnight. Instead, you can just start adding cardigans, light sweaters, and jackets that you have in the back of your closet into the front of your closet. To prepare when it starts getting chillier out. One of my favorite ways also for your wardrobe is instead of just putting a way, all your summer pieces, you don't need to do that because one, you may not have the storage
Starting point is 00:13:45 room to do that and two, you also can reuse the clothes you wore in summer and spring and all the warmer months in the winter months. So instead of putting those summer pieces away, it just start layering those pieces. Maybe you have a really cute pink summer top that you love. Instead of putting it away, you can wear like a cute white long sleeve under it. Same with a skirt. Maybe you have a really cute jean skirt that you love that you wear all throughout summer. Instead of putting that skirt away, what you can do is just put some cute tights underneath that skirt for when it starts getting chillier out. Also, another thing for fall wardrobe that I love is introducing deeper colors and like warmer colors.
Starting point is 00:14:24 I love a lot of neutrals. I love different like shades of brown and also like different shades of like orange or like dark green in the fall time. That always looks really cute. And I feel like it just looks so short. chic because it gives both like a fall autumn but also earthy look same like my wardrobe i apply it to my beauty routine where you can start incorporating warmer makeup tones so maybe you've been loving a pink eye shadow or maybe you just love a more unnatural look in the summertime maybe for the fall time you're going to do a little more makeup than you usually do and then add some darker tones or add
Starting point is 00:15:02 some maybe brown eye shadow switching to a slightly richer skincare as well i feel like everyone's skincare routine looks different per season if you are like me like i will switch up my skincare routine per the season because my skin will definitely get drier in the more fall winter weather so i try to switch to more like moisturizing skincare so prep your both makeup and skincare routine accordingly to what the new season's going to be like and you know what works best for your skin and what your preferences are for makeup. So I just feel like having that lineup prepared for the new season, it can be so helpful. If you've been following me for a while and listening to the show,
Starting point is 00:15:46 you know I'm trying to get rid of more polyester clothing and trying to prioritize having a full cotton, linen, and just high quality clothing and home decor. And I have deep dived and found only very minimal brands who carry exactly what I'm looking for. And one of the brands I always wear in love is quince. They carry organic cotton, Mongolian cashmere, and high-quality materials that feel so luxurious and chic. But at the same time, has great affordable options.
Starting point is 00:16:16 They're literally priced 50 to 80% less than similar brands. They carry apparel, bedding and bath, kitchen staples, and just so many essentials. So upgrade your everyday, download Quince app for exclusive offers. Go to quince.com slash busy. Get free shipping on your order and 365-day returns now available in Canada and the UK too. that's q-u-in-c-c-e dot com slash busy i seriously am obsessed with linder dresses right now i promise you you are going to love all their pieces with the summertime of course we have our goals but we also have real life hanging out with friends work or maybe even school and of course that takes up a lot of time but one of your
Starting point is 00:17:01 goals would be starting a business so you may be asking yourself how can i have a business when i literally have a summer of plans to keep up with. But let me introduce you to something that I love Shopify. It makes starting a business easy and has all the tools you need to launch and maintain your business from day one. And whenever I use Shopify websites, it is so easy to navigate. What I love most about it is their design and launch feature with Shopify's templates and tools help your stunning site get up launched and running smoothly. I also love their checkout, turning more browsers into buyers? I also love their sidekick feature. It's there to help you build, troubleshoot, and keep moving. Starting point is 00:17:41 first, start your free trial at Shopify.com slash busy yet pretty today. You heard that right, start your free trial today at Shopify.com slash busy yet pretty. That's Shopify.com slash busy yet pretty. Something I did today for fall is I got my nails done and they look so cute. I did little brown French tip, which I usually love a classic white French tip. but I did a brown French tip with white polka dots. I have photos over my Instagram and my TikTok, but you definitely should try doing a fall-inspired nails. There's so many good ideas over Pinterest.
Starting point is 00:18:18 And I feel like just having fall nails also just make you feel really tapped into the season. It's just one of the easiest ways to contribute to like fall colors and accessories. It's to me like the best accessory without actually having to add a physical accessory because your nails are the accessory. You can do your nails at a salon, at home, whatever works best for you. But get yourself some fall nails. I love this, but fall drinks. I am just a fall drink girl, shamelessly.
Starting point is 00:18:46 Start experimenting with chai lattes, some different coffee lattes, macho lattes, whatever it is, but warm drinks. And also you can make some ice versions of your favorite seasonal flavors, too. Like an iced pumpkin spice latte or an ice chai latte, or an ice matcha chai. just create a drink ritual that's cozy for slower mornings. So every morning during school or before work, you can just wake up and know what drink you're making.
Starting point is 00:19:14 That's seasonal and it feels just cozy and makes you just feel excited for the day. Same with food. You can start incorporating things that are like fall produce such as apples, squash, and just warming flavors into your food and your meals. Maybe for breakfast, you just want a cozy, simple apple oatmeal bowl. That was cinnamon is so divine in maple syrup. And then for lunch, you may want a nice squash bowl with turkey and different veggies. And for dinner, maybe you're going to do a butternut squash with mushrooms and spinach.
Starting point is 00:19:48 And for dessert, do a nice cinnamon roll. You can really just browse around and find recipes that you're excited to cook as weather changes. But I can't lie, I will eat warm bowls and hot foods all throughout summer. I don't care what weather it is. I love warm foods, so I'm a little biased since I year-round love warm foods. And there's also so many good recipe books that you can follow from. I feel like it's very cozy chic in the fall time to have a recipe book that you follow. This is also very fall-themed feeling to me, but putting on like the old Ina Garden channel,
Starting point is 00:20:24 watching her cook and do her turkey roast, all of that is so fall theme to me. Soon I'll do a more in-depth fall routine episode. but as a general transition to your new routine, you can slowly start shifting your wake-up and bedtime schedule. I think most of all it's very important to bring back more structured evenings. Like I say, the summers were just very much on our own schedule. We're just chilling out, but we are trying to get back to work, get back to school, and lock in.
Starting point is 00:20:54 So it's important to have those structured evenings of going bed at a early enough time so you can wake up the time you need to because your morning routine always begins with your night routine. And making your room and environment designed for slower mornings and earlier nights. So instead of having blue light just blaring at your face, doom scrolling at 1.m. And having a TV on, having loud music, having all your lights on in your room, that's not going to help you fall asleep early.
Starting point is 00:21:22 That's going to keep you up definitely late. So it's important to have maybe a candle lit, just a one lamp on, so for some warm lighting. and taking your phone and not your TV, but taking your phone out of the room and not putting on your TV an hour before bed. Maybe starting a new fall book. Oh my gosh, okay, wait, when it comes to your,
Starting point is 00:21:40 we'll get to our reading era soon, but finishing the cozy room ideas, you can just do a deep clean on your room, rearrange just one small area at a time. So maybe you want to add some fall decor on your desk, and then maybe next week you're going to add some fall decor to your bedding. And also, of course, always add some fall decor. fresh flowers. As the weeks go by, there's going to be more and more fall style flowers.
Starting point is 00:22:05 Of course, a classic hydrangea to me always falls year round, perfect for any season. But you can add fresh flowers and just fresh plants to your room, and that's going to give you another cozy vibe of jumping ahead of myself earlier. But now when it comes to the fall reading era, create a cozy TBR list. So that's a cozy to be read list. So all the books that you have been seeing on TikTok or that you've seen on Pinterest, all the books that you've been wanting to read that are cozy, maybe that dark academia type of feel books, or I want to read the Twilight series. I've never read it, so I feel like I'll want to read that this year. But any just fall books that you've been wanting to read, create a list of them and actually a checkbox next to it.
Starting point is 00:22:48 So you can check them off and hold yourself accountable. And the first way to start getting those checked off is ordering your first fall book. Order it. Get it today. Start one of your fall books even tonight. choose books just that match the season's mood and you can make reading a part of your evening routine don't make it a chore but make it something that you actually look forward to maybe you have your tea or your decaf latte in bed or maybe you have like a cinnamon roll in bed with you while you're reading your book i feel like that it's just the ultimate cozy plus some little jazz music in the background to me that's a perfect dream fall night also if you need some like fall routine info i'm going to start posting a lot
Starting point is 00:23:29 of fall morning and night routines over TikTok and Instagram. So stay tuned for those. And if you need some fall cozy entertainment, you can just rewatch comfort shows. Like I said, Gilmore Girls, a perfect fall style show. You can create a movie list for cooler nights. So when it's cold out and you're not wanting to go out when you just want to stay in and get cozy, have that movie fall autumn movie list ready for you. You can also plan cozy watch nights with your family and friends.
Starting point is 00:23:57 Like I said, in my goal of the week, I want to be. a little like fall kickoff. And I think I'm going to invite my grandma and my mom. And we're going to have a little maybe fall movie night, maybe with some like cinnamon rolls or some cookies. And something you could do that's like a late summer, early fall bucket list that I feel like is realistic because of course there's not like a lot of pumpkin patches open and there's not a lot of fall things out yet.
Starting point is 00:24:19 But having one last summer beach or pool day. And another thing is taking sunset walks, visiting a new cafe, have an outdoor dinner. you can maybe like host some of your friends or family read somewhere pretty go have a picnic have like a little weekend day trip somewhere i feel like that's one of the best ways to wrap up summer make a fall playlist i love doing that every new season i go on to spotify because that's where i listen to my music and i will literally just make a fall style playlist i'll listen to all fall long and it really just gets me in that fall mood try some seasonal recipes refresh your room and most of all create new seasonal traditions. So maybe choose small traditions that you'll repeat every year. That could be like the fall movie kickoff where you invite some of your friends or your family and you guys watch a fall movie. You could start doing that every year. Create weekly rituals instead of a huge events. So that could be taking yourself on weekly solo dates to have like a fall solo date at a cafe or doing like a little pottery session somewhere, going to try a new
Starting point is 00:25:23 pie place. And of course make this season feel personal to you. So all those things that you have on your Pinterest boards, start writing down a bucket list of all the things that you want to do and want to experience in the fall time. You may be thinking, Jaden, I have school and I have work. Trust me, I get it. And we all do. We all are working.
Starting point is 00:25:42 We all have school. So there are things that we can do in our school and our work routine that we can actually do to romanticize the fall. That could be refreshing your workspace. So maybe let's say you work in office job. Put some cute little fall decorations on your desk. or change your wallpaper on your computer. Maybe at school you have a cute little new fall style bag you're going to use. Switch up your binders or your fall books that you're going to read at school.
Starting point is 00:26:08 Create a seasonal working playlist. So maybe you have your seasonal fall playlist that you listen to throughout the day, but then have a playlist that you listen to for the season, specifically when you're at work or school that you can listen to and feel like you're productive with. To me, that was always like smooth jazz fall or like Ottoman New York. York. I love that song. So any of those types of songs in the fall time was my perfect type of like work study music. And give yourself a little thing to look forward to every single day. So again, that could be getting your pumpkin spice latte, making that every morning before work or school,
Starting point is 00:26:44 or knowing at the end of the evening, when you're in bed, you're going to watch Gilmore Girls, like an episode of something that's like fall related. I want to introduce you to one of today's sponsors, hinge, which is perfect since I know I've had so many questions as of recently on relationships and where to find someone with the same interest as you. Hinge is a dating app designed to be deleted. It's for people dating with intention, so going on dates, putting themselves out there. Hinge is designed for finding connections. So many of my friends actually met the loves of their life through Hinge. And what I love about it, it's all about intention for people who are actually trying to find connection in relationships to truly just find your person. I personally am very selective
Starting point is 00:27:30 when it comes to a partner in relationships. As you know, I would not settle for any less. So I love how with Hinge, it's designed to connect you to people who align to you and your lifestyle, which is so important when it comes to finding the right person for you. So if you're hearing this, this is your sign to download or re-download Hinge. If you're picky when it comes to the dating, I'd honestly just give it a look because I've heard great things. And who knows, you may find the person you have been looking for. Also, the days are going to start feeling shorter. They're going to start feeling shorter because it's going to get dark earlier and just the weather
Starting point is 00:28:06 is going to get chillier. So just be prepared to prioritize rest as the days get shorter. Still creating those cozy nighttime routines and just making skincare wellness feel like rituals, not like chores. Also make sure to have that new season, new mindset energy. So using that seasonal shift as a natural reset, that's why I say I love feeling like a new refresh and new start every new season. So use that seasonal shift as like a natural reset and decide what habits that you want to carry moving forward into the new season. So maybe you realize in summer
Starting point is 00:28:40 you were just staying up way too late, you know, okay, I'm not going to do that again in the fall. Or you're thinking maybe that you were eating out a lot in the summertime where you're going to now start cooking more and doing some cozy recipes at home in the fall time. Maybe you spent too much money in the summertime. Again, trying to be more budget-friendly and the full-time. So just being aware of what worked and didn't work this past season for you, reflecting and then knowing what you want to carry in to fall or not carry into autumn. So just leave behind the routines that no longer serve you. And I know it's so sad to like leave summer behind, but make, do like something that makes it feel like summer. It's truly just like you're wrapping it up with a bow on top. Like,
Starting point is 00:29:22 that was the perfect summer. So have your last favorite summer. meal, plan one last spontaneous summer adventure, and make time for people that you want to see before your schedule changes.
