Hello, my love.
Welcome to the Busy at Pretty Podcast.
I'm your host, Jaden Haley.
If you are new here, welcome.
I talk all about how to become the best version of you,
and I'm a very seasonal person,
so I love just talking about routines, motivation,
and things you can do to enjoy your day-to-day life throughout new seasons,
and of course, how to make your busy life feel pretty.
I'm very excited about today's episode,
because this has been highly requested and something that I just love talking about,
but we're going to talk about how to stop self-sabotaging yourself,
from living your dream life.
And sometimes we are just so subconsciously doing this that we don't even know that we're
self-sabotaging ourselves.
But let's be honest, we are all victims of it.
We all do it.
And it's all just subconscious things that we do with doubt and with feeling like we're
not good enough or just feeling like we don't deserve something or we're not setting
ourselves up for success like we could be.
So I'm very excited to get into today's episode.
But before we do that, let's do our weekly review.
This week, I have just been so focused on just my summer routine.
and honestly just enjoying spontaneous plans, there is nothing better than actually just having
like a summer routine, having structure, but then also leaving room for any spontaneous plans that arise.
I had like a full day to be productive for the summer on like Saturday.
And then I was like, you know what?
I'm just going to have a more relaxed day.
It's like I ended up just going on like a fun walk with my grandma and my cousins and then
going to literally just hang out with my family all day.
It was the perfect summer day that I'm just so happy I made that memory.
So that's why I feel like having a routine.
routine and structure is so important, but along with having the balance of knowing that if plans
spontaneously arise, enjoy it and do it and don't beat yourself up for being off routine.
Another thing this week is I have just been getting outside more, going in the pool, just getting
more sunlight and going on walks. I, well, we'll get into the curb session soon, but I have
just been loving getting my steps in again and going outside. You just feel better and feel good
at the end of the day. And lastly, this week is just feeling excited and present for each other.
day of summer. I really want to soak it up and as much as I'm so excited for like fall, I don't want to
jump ahead too soon and really just enjoy what is in the present moment, which is summer. So I'm
really excited about that. And also now that it's a new month, I feel like whenever it's a new
month, I just love getting that new fresh reset. And also July to me is like peak summer season.
So I'm very excited. Now into the current obsession. My current obsession right now is seeded crackers.
I love any seeds. I love seeds.
So I have been having these like healthy seeded crackers.
The brand is called Ella Flats.
I love them so much and they're so good.
But I've been loving those and they're just my favorite snack and I have them with all my meals.
And then another current obsession right now is getting around 8,000 to 10,000 steps a day.
I feel like I like to have that as my aimed goal to have for my step count.
But I also don't track all my steps.
Like sometimes I'll just go and walks without my phone or I don't, you know, I'm not beating myself up if I don't hit my step.
count but it's nice to have a little goal to have at the end of the day. In my last current
obsession right now is using my NERVA app for my gut support. As you guys know, I have a lot of
GI motility issues. So that has been helping with my IBS and just my overall stomach
issues. It's kind of like, sounds funny, but it's like gut hypnosis, but it's kind of just like
retraining your gut brain connection into not interpreting things as stress and feeling more relaxed
in your body, so I have just been really enjoying that for healing my stomach. I think I paid around
like $200 for the six-week course, so I'll let you know if it does help my stomach or not. Now to the
goal of the week. My goal of the week right now is to practice better balance in all my areas of life.
I feel like I did really good with this this past week, but even more things with like a work life
balance or just having better balance when it comes to letting go of that all or nothing mindset.
So having better balance in all aspects of life is a really big goal of mine this week.
Another goal of the week for me is planning a summer watch party for the girls of the family.
I love nothing more than just planning and hosting.
And I haven't really hosted anything in a while.
So I think I'm going to host a little girls night for the girls in the family for my cousins,
for my aunt, my mom, my grandma.
And then we'll just come over, have a little summer watch party.
I think we'll watch like a summer movie or a summer show.
I really loved We Were We Were a Summer Watch.
liars that was like one of my favorite summer shows last year so i think we'll watch that and for my last
goal of the week is to improve my posture and alignment sometimes my posture just all of a sudden starts
to dip and i forgot to stand up straight and that's right now my posture is not the best right now so i definitely
want to start being more aware of my posture now into the affirmation of the week your affirmation
of the week is i deserve every wonderful thing that enters my life i love the affirmation so much i really
recommend journaling that affirmation to yourself. Now for your self-love question of the week,
what can I do today to remind myself that I deserve all the good things in life? I love that question
so much because it is very on brand for today's episode, which is going to be on self-sabotage
and also just realizing you deserve all the good things in your life and all the good things
that come your way. So I love that question. Now on to the podcast review. If you want to be
featured on next week's episode, make sure to leave a podcast review over Apple Podcasts.
or leave a rating and comment over Spotify.
This review is from Kat and Kat said,
You don't need to earn happiness.
You can start living today.
I love this quote.
Thank you so much, Jaden, for another inspirational podcast episode.
Gonna try to get busy yet pretty living this summer.
Kat, I am so glad that you're enjoying the podcast and I'm just so excited for us.
We're all going to have such a good summer and I feel like we're all kind of like motivating each other,
which is my favorite thing.
I love how in the Spotify comment section, everyone just motivated.
each other and it just makes me so happy. So I'm so proud of you and thank you for your review.
Now without further ado, it is time for today's episode. Today we're going to be talking about
how to stop self-sabotaging yourself from living your dream life. I feel like that is something that
we all need to just like lock into and realize that sometimes we are as subconsciously self-sabotaging
ourselves. That's one of the biggest things is sometimes we're just doing things and going through
our day-to-day life and we don't even realize the little things that we do which is doubt,
which is just talking negatively in our mind or just a lot of different things, is self-sabotage.
And we've just become so used to it that we don't even realize it.
And that will reflect into your life and not getting things that you deserve and not getting
your dream life that you really want.
So let's talk about what self-sabotage actually is.
That's going to be subconscious behaviors that block what you say you want.
Self-sabotage could be just showing up as procrastination, avoidance, or just over-stabotage.
perfectionism. If you were holding yourself to an incapable goal or if you're holding yourself to
just constantly procrastinating and putting things off, that itself is self-sabotage. Many times often
self-sabotage is rooted in fear, not lack of capability. That's why doubt often comes from fear.
This is one of the main things when it comes to self-sabotage, but take your dream life off a pedestal.
Stop treating your goals as distant or for quote later.
A lot of times we think we have this goal that we want, maybe like starting a clothing brand.
And you think, okay, once I have more money and once I have my life together and once I'm able to know more about it, then I'll start that goal then.
And that later goal may never happen because you're never going to feel perfectly ready.
Or maybe your goal is to make $100,000 a year.
But you're making nowhere close to that.
Of course, you don't want to set unrealistic goals where then, you know, you never accomplish them.
because you have to go step by step, but also don't think, oh, it's never going to happen.
I'll never make $100,000 a year.
Have that as a goal, but instead of setting that as your primary goal, leave that as your goal,
but break that primary goal down into little goals that you can set throughout the month.
So for instance, maybe your year end goal is to make $100,000 a year, but you think,
okay, that's so big and that's so much.
Maybe that's way too much for you and you have to break that goal down.
That's okay.
Maybe you think, okay, every quarter I want to make $15,000 to $20,000.
thousand. So instead of focusing on the $100,000 goal a year, you're more focused on just starting to
get $15,000 to $20,000 every quarter of the year, which is more feasible and more realistic than
thinking of that whole $100,000. And of course, that may be way too big of a goal for you right now.
When I just throw out numbers, like financial money numbers and stuff, this is not an actual goal.
This is truly just examples. And I usually just pick $100,000 because it's easy to divide.
But whatever that goal may be, stop putting it on a pedestal and making it feel so unrealistic
and pushing it off and putting it for later.
I want you to normalize the version of the life that you want.
There are so many times I've wanted something that I ended up getting.
And it's not because I'm better than someone else or I've done other things than someone else.
Of course, you put your time and effort.
But my time and effort to get me to where I want to be, a lot of it was mentally.
I'm no different than you.
I'm not a Nepo baby.
I wasn't born into money.
I literally am just like you.
One of the best pieces of advice that I learned from other motivational speakers is show up as the version of the person you want to be.
So, for instance, if you were at a hotel and you want to become a regular at this Ritz-Carlton Hotel that you always want to stay at, but you haven't had the money to stay there, go to the hotel, work at the cafe, walk in there like you know the staff.
Walk in there like you belong here and like, oh, you go here all the time.
act as a person who actually stays at the hotel.
Embody those feelings in your mind.
Embody those feelings in your soul.
And I kid you not, it will manifest that one day.
If you want that dream car, go to the car dealership.
It doesn't matter if you have not even a dollar in your name.
Go to the car dealership.
Test out the car.
Feel the seats and be like, you know, this is my car.
This is my car.
Of course, don't drive off with the car.
But I'm saying really embody that.
where you've taken this dream and goal off a pedestal and started normalizing it in where it feels so much more realistic than it did.
And begin closing the gap between dreaming and doing and put action and baby steps towards getting that goal where it feels normalized.
And again, when it comes to envisioning what you have, that dream life, those dream goals that you want, ask yourself, what would I do if I already had this life?
And start showing up as that person, start living that way that that version of you, if you had all those things that you wanted, how would you feel?
how would you act, how would you be, embody those feelings?
Now, when it comes to self-sabotage,
let's talk about why you keep delaying what you actually want.
The fear of failure equals avoidance.
It is very simple to start avoiding things and to start wanting to push things off
and put a dream to the back of your mind when you start feeling like you're not capable of
it or what if you fail.
The thing is, you have to not be afraid to fail.
You have to realize if you fail, thank gosh you tried so you know.
know, it didn't work out. And also, failure, as cliche as it is, it will always direct you
to the right path that you need to be. Whenever you fail, it's not like you lost. You didn't lose.
Even if you truly lost things physically, you know, you put money into this and it ended up
not working out and you lost some money. There is a lesson still there. You always leave with a lesson
and something, knowledge from failing. Or maybe instead of the fear of failure, you may be
feeling the fear of success. So that's going to be the pressure and the visibility. You could
truly just be fearing that. And that's where perfectionism is kicking in and procrastination,
because you're going to start overthinking. And all that overthinking isn't actually overthinking
in planning. It's not. Overthinking is disguised as planning. Sometimes we think, oh, I'm just spending
time planning for this. I'm just planning to make it perfect. When actuality, you're really just
overthinking it and you're just putting it off further. Let me remind you, waiting for the perfect
timing keeps you stuck in the same exact place that you're in now. When it comes to comfort and growth,
I feel like that is so important when it comes to realizing about self-sabotage. Because comfort feels safe,
but reinforces stagnation. We love feeling comfortable. Like no one likes to feel uncomfortable. Nobody does.
But the thing is, and I know it's very cliche to say, being uncomfortable makes you grow,
but it is so true because if you stay in the same position and stay comfortable, you will never grow,
you will never evolve.
You're going to be in the same place.
And that's okay if you want that, but if you want more, and I know you want more for yourself,
and you want things, you want your goals, you want to achieve it all, then you have to learn
that you're going to be uncomfortable, and it's amazing to be uncomfortable.
Comfort is always going to feel safe.
But when you grow, you will feel uncomfortable.
So growth feels uncomfortable, but it builds expansion.
Naturally, just like second nature, since we're humans, our brain will always just choose the
familiar ways and familiar routes that we,
choose that are comfortable because it's familiar and you're less willing to have any fear by
trying something new or taking a risk. So your brain will always choose familiarity unless you
interrupt it. And this is so important, but progress requires tolerating temporary discomfort.
You literally have to not be comfortable at times and have some discomfort temporarily
in order to have progress. Self-sabotage is letting us always stay comfortable in the same position
because what that's doing is just not letting us grow. Now,
when it comes to self-sabotage, which this is one of the biggest things I feel like when it comes
to self-sabotage when you think of self-sabotage, but it's the identity problem behind it and it's
not a motivational problem. A lot of times people say, like, I don't deserve this or someone really
feels they don't deserve the dream job that they got. Many times we will literally have a goal and
we'll work up to it and we finally get it and then we think that we don't deserve it. You have to
realize that habits follow identity, not the other way around. So once you have something,
if you start affirming to yourself that you don't deserve this and you aren't, you know, the right person for this.
Or why do I have these great grades? Why was I given this raise? That's only going to manifest you bring you down.
Because constantly affirming those negative thoughts to yourself is going to make you not work as hard and start living up to the standard in your mind that you set for yourself, not to the standard that you actually have in your current life.
So if you're constantly affirming to yourself, I'm not consistent or I don't deserve this, it's going to become a,
self-fulfilling loop. So change starts when identity shifts first. You could be living on the streets
and think to yourself, I deserve to live in a mansion and keep having that mindset will lead you
and lead your habits and lead that personality of yours to begin taking steps to getting closer to that.
And small actions create a new identity. So when it comes to breaking the self-sabotage loop,
in my head, I always think of the like the three loop that you can break and start fresh, which is break
this negative cycle that you have in your mind. So break the identity of your mindset where you
stop affirming to yourself that you don't deserve something. So number one is break the mindset.
And then once you break that, it'll fix the actions. And then once you start the actions,
it'll have the result. When it comes to self-worth and receiving what you want, you don't have
to earn what you desire. Many times you think we have to earn it or we have to become a better
person in order to receive that. It doesn't matter if you are the most experienced,
person in the room or the least experienced person in the room or you're wearing the most designer
or a thrifted outfit. It does not matter as long as you hold yourself and believe inside that you know
who you are and you believe that you deserve what you want. I kid you not that will portray to other
people. Many times I've been the youngest person in the room at certain events that I went to when I was
younger and I didn't have much experience but I'd constantly be putting myself out to network and network
and people believe that I had a lot of experience.
One of the best things is faking it till you make it.
And sometimes when you do it to other people and start acting like that confident person,
you'll soon start believing you are that confident person.
I can't lie.
Sometimes I am an impatient person.
But let's be honest, waiting on things are honestly the worst,

Feeling unworthy often blocks action more than fear does.
But if you feel unworthy, that will block any action way more than fear does because feeling
unworthy just makes you feel like you are not that person and why put any effort towards it at all.
So self-sabotage really is rooted in self-worth because worthiness influences what you allow yourself
to receive.
You can want it more without proving you desire it first.
So stop thinking that you have to earn what you desire and earn things.
and start realizing you are that person and you deserve that.
It doesn't matter how much you think you need to have experience for a certain job.
Believe you are that person.
Believe you have that confidence and experience and you have that ability to start today.
And people will see that within you.
As I said, self-sabotage can just show up subconsciously in our life,
which is one of the main ways it shows up is we don't even realize it and just ingrained in our little daily habits.
So some ways that it shows up daily.
it's just delaying task that are important.
Many times we will just delay the most important tasks that we have.
And that itself is the biggest form of self-sabotage
because you're not allowing yourself to move forward.
Another one is quitting early when things aren't giving you instant results.
It is so easy to just quit when you're not getting results instantly.
And it's just, you have to realize that things are not going to happen overnight.
You're not going to become physically healthy overnight.
If you're someone who has been eating not the best or having,
haven't been working out or getting movement and you're trying to change how you feel internally,
externally and just feeling healthy or having a ideal fit body. Whatever your goal is, it's not
going to happen overnight. And you have to realize that it's not because if you do,
you're going to hold yourself to an expectation that's never going to fulfill itself because
you're not going to wake up one day and think, wow, one day of progress is going to get me results.
No, it's not going to happen that way. So stop quitting early because results are not going to
to come instantly. Another way that self-sabotage shows up is over-complicating simple task.
Many times we just have a task and we will just over-complicate it and plan so much for it instead
of just doing. I just saw a girl on Instagram. My mom sent me this real and she said that before
her mom died, she asked her mom for some advice that she really wants her to remember when she's not
here. And her mom told her to stop trying to do something and just do something. And I think that is so
important where so many times we're going to think we're just going to try. We're just going to try
and do our homework. We're just going to try and clean up the house. Don't try. Just do. Do your homework.
Clean up the house. And sorry, because overcomplicating it is just prolonging it and making it a bigger deal and
more time dragging in your head instead of just checking off the box. It just make it black and white.
Make the task that you need to get done black and white so it becomes easy instead of just prolonging
it and actually not doing it or fulfilling it totally.
Another way self-sabotage creeps up is comparing instead of focusing on your own path.
So many times we start comparing what someone else is doing or their progress or where they're at
and their journey, which you literally cannot do because that's only self-sabotaging your success,
your journey and your progress.
Because I bet if you're seeing someone else and you're comparing yourself, you're destined to
slow down your own progress.
Instead of looking at other lanes and what other people are doing, focus on yourself.
Or if you're someone who tends to get motivated by saying others,
progress, you can look at other people as long as you're not comparing yourself and comparing your
own journey in progress. This is for my ADHD and OCD people, but perfectionism as a form of
avoidance, this can be one of your biggest downfalls when it comes to self-sabotage. If it can't be
perfect, it doesn't get started. You need to let that go and start thinking, I'm going to launch
fast perfect later instead of not starting if it doesn't feel perfect. The all or nothing mindset,
that right there will literally kill consistency. Because I'm telling you,
It's not going to be all or nothing. You're not going to have perfect five-star days and perfect
progress days. But all of a sudden, if you have a rocky day, you can't just quit right there and then
not have any progress again tomorrow. I'm telling you, if you have a rocky day or if you're off
track or off schedule, stop thinking, okay, I'm going to stop. My morning's ruined, so I'm just going to
ruin the rest of my day. No, you can still have so much progress for the rest of your day or tomorrow.
So stop thinking you're going to stop right there if something goes wrong and start thinking,
I'm going to pick back up where I left off.
Another thing is, imperfect action will always be no action.
It's better to have imperfect days and better to have imperfect progress than to have no progress
at all.
Dunn builds momentum and perfection builds delay.
That has to be one of my favorite quotes because I think it's so important to realize
perfection literally will build delay.
So always just think consistency over perfection.
That right there to me is the key of self-sabotage, or I should say beating self-sabotage,
where that comes to breaking the cycle.
So when it comes to breaking the cycle, that's where awareness interrupts the pattern.
Having awareness that you're self-sabotaging yourself or just doing daily habits that are
constantly leading you to thinking negatively or comparing yourself or feeling you're not worthy
of what you have or your desires.
That's where awareness truly will interrupt the pattern.
So as long as you're aware and thinking, okay, this is just self-doubt.
This is just self-sabotage.
I'm not going to do this.
and I'm going to literally put up a stop sign,
or I'm going to put up my favorite drink, a matcha, a flower, whatever it is in my head.
So I stop thinking that way, whatever you have to do to stop that thought and not keep
ruminating on your thought.
It can be so easy once you start thinking negatively about something or start thinking
negatively where I'm not worth it or what if this goes wrong or what if I fail,
you all of a sudden will just start ruminating and you're wasting time, wasting your energy
and wasting effort that you could be putting towards actually building progress.
us. Another way to break the cycle is start smaller than what your mind wants. So if you're someone who gets
too overwhelmed by big goals, that's like I said earlier, break your goals down and start small
because it's better to start small than not start at all. This is reminds me of like a Mel Robbins quote.
I remember she always says like, have the five second rule when waking up in the morning where you have
five, four, three, two, one, then you just get out of bed. It doesn't matter if your mind doesn't want to.
You're going to physically do it. But this is where I kind of think of it the same.
same way, but act before motivation shows up. Because motivation will not show up. You're not going to want
to get out of bed. But sometimes you have to put the physical action to literally pull yourself out
a bid in order to get started to get that motivation. I guarantee you're not going to be excited to go
on a run or to go on a walk. But once you're on the walk, it's going to feel better. Once you're on
the run, you're going to start getting that runner's high feeling excited. But leading up to it,
you're not. So instead, you just have to put the shoes on, get outside, and get started. And that's where
the motivation will show. Another way to stop sabotaging yourself and break that cycle is build
consistency through repetition and not emotion. Like I said, you're going to emotionally feel a certain
way. You're going to emotionally not want to get out of bed. You're going to emotionally want to stay home
and doomschool. But what you're going to actually do is have repetition of getting up and doing it
anyways. So that's putting, laying out your shoes the night before. So every morning you walk.
It's having that repetition and showing up, not listening to you not wanting to go, but listening to the
habit that you're setting for yourself.
Show up for the best version of yourself, not for your emotions.
When it comes to reframing discipline, realize discipline equals self-trust, not punishment.
It is not punishing yourself to have discipline.
It is having self-trust.
And structure creates freedom, not restriction.
So many times we think, okay, having a structured routine creates restriction, not
being able to do other things.
No, it creates freedom.
Having structure means you're not going to.
to wake up and feel sad because you're not going to know what to do throughout the day. It means you're
going to wake up, have a structure, and it gives you freedom to think, okay, I've gotten all my chores
then in the day. Now I have this full free day to do any new hobby that I want to do. You don't,
quote, try to be consistent. You have to decide to be consistent. That's why we are following our
habits, not following our emotions, because our emotions are not going to want us to get up and be
productive. We're not going to want to be productive. Who wants to be productive? Like, we want to,
but we don't actually want to show up and do the work.
So again, building the habits, showing up for your habits and not what you truly feel and
your emotions.
And remember, showing up builds identity confidence.
So having that self-doubt and having that self-sabotage is creating a identity that you
aren't capable of doing stuff.
So showing up is building that self-identity confidence and thinking, okay, I am someone who is
productive.
I am someone who gets things done because you are showing up with your habits.
Now let's talk about rewriting your inner narrative, which I think is so important.
Your thoughts reinforce your behavior loop.
So if you're thinking to yourself, I always fail and thinking I always don't deserve this,
that itself is becoming a behavioral permission to think that you don't deserve it and you
aren't going to succeed.
So it's about rewriting the narrative and having those affirmations for yourself of thinking,
I'm constantly learning.
If I fail, it just redirected me.
and at least it's better to know than to never try.
Because you always have to remember that self-talk shapes identity over time.
It's like the experiment of when you talk to rice,
you could be saying so many negative things to the little bowl of rice.
And that's, let's say, rice number one.
If you say all the negative things to it,
it will literally start getting rotten and get moldy.
But if you talk to the positive bowl of rice,
it literally stays healthy.
It stays good.
It doesn't mold.
You can literally try it at home.
Search up the rice experiment.
and you can see how talking to a bowl of rice even affects the rice,
imagine what it's doing to you, your body, and your nervous system, and your confidence.
When it comes to detaching from outcomes, obsession with results create pressure.
So if you're constantly getting obsessive results and not thinking about the journey anymore,
but thinking of the results, that's only going to create more pressure and more wear and tear on your body than thinking,
I'm going to trust the process and just focus on the progression.
I'm going to focus on just showing up every day and the habits rather than thinking,
okay, where's my progress at right now?
Because again, we're going to naturally want to see the progress happen instantly and overnight
when that's not feasible for all situations.
So focus on the systems instead of the outcomes.
Progress becomes more sustainable when the pressure drops.
So you'll become more consistent and more excited to show up for yourself
when you begin thinking of the journey rather than the pressure of seeing the results.
So just overall trust that consistency,
compounds over time and start getting excited about the journey rather than the results.
That almost reminds me of the book, The Mountain is You.
If you're someone who's very fixated on the end gold, the end result and not seeing results,
read that book because you realize how the journey is the most important part.
And also, once you get to the top, it's like, wow, it was all about the journey that counts.
So I want you to remember that you're not stuck, you're just repeating habits and patterns
that you're used to ends up consciously doing.
Remember, identity drives behavior more than motivation.
And it can be the smallest action that break large cycles.
It literally could be the biggest thing.
The negative self-talk can be one of the biggest things causing you having that no results
and not succeeding and having that self-sabotage.
And these are things that don't happen overnight and they're practicing.
You're not just going to one day wake up and not talk negatively about yourself or have
no self-doubt.
It takes time and habits and remembering and catching yourself the minute you start to talk bad
about yourself or the minute you start to doubt yourself.
Remembering, okay, wait, I'm not going to think like this.
I'm going to think a different way.
I'm going to think what's the best case scenario.
Start looking at the glass half full rather than half empty.
