Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello, my love. Welcome to the Busy at Pretty Podcast. I'm your host, Jaden Haley. If you're new here, welcome. I talk all about how to become the best version of you, routines, everything seasonal, especially during the fall, motivation, and just how to get productive, yet enjoy your life. I'm very excited about today's episode because we're talking about something that is perfect for everyone, which is routines.
Starting point is 00:00:31 Today's episode is going to be the perfect autumn routine for the coziest and most motivated fall yet, from morning to evening routines. And of course, if you're busy with work or school, I'll also be talking about that as well. But before we get into that, let's do our weekly review. This week, it has just officially felt like fall. I feel like it took a second, but it actually feels like fall now
Starting point is 00:00:51 because like when I wake up in the morning, it has just like that like misty feel and that coldness when you just breathe in your nostrils. I just love the fall. Like, I truly thrive in the cold weather. So I'm very excited about this time of season. Another thing this week is I have just been scheduling a fewer tasks and just focusing on my top like three priorities by doing that is it just has made me so much more productive. And tying to that, I also have been truly trying to refuel without feeling guilty.
Starting point is 00:01:20 It is always so important to not have any guilt when refueling, but just being more mindful about that because sometimes we are just wanting to relax and do nothing. And you feel like, oh, I need to get up. But it's okay. You sometimes need that relaxing time and that time of doing nothing. to refuel and be more productive later on. Now into the current obsessions of the week. My current obsession right now is this audiobook I've been listening to called Laisiness Does Not Exist.
Starting point is 00:01:46 I'm absolutely obsessed with it so far because, as I said in my weekly review, that I am trying to just feel less guilty about resting because rest is so important. And it's just explaining how our need to be productive, constantly non-stop, and how we just don't let ourselves rest enough is so important. So I've been loving that audiobook to listen to.
Starting point is 00:02:05 after just a day of working. And my next current obsession right now is macho with agave. I usually do macho with collagen powder, but lately I've been loving macho with agave. It just has like the nice, like lightly sweet, fruity flavor to it. And my last current obsession of the week is walking anytime I'm on my phone. I really am just on my phone a lot for work. And it feels nice to be able to get my steps in throughout the day.
Starting point is 00:02:30 So it's just nice to do it at the same time. So whenever time I'm on my phone, walk. and that's something you can do as well, especially if you're someone who has a hard time getting your steps in or just want to be a little more active. You can literally just scroll and be on your phone while you walk. Now for the goal of the week,
Starting point is 00:02:47 my goal of the week is to try my nervous system, a stimulator. As you know, I do have a nervous system dysfunction and I'm always looking for ways to regulate my nervous system. So I bought a polsetto, which is like a nervous system regulator, and it just helps stimulate your nervous system. It was about like $250 to $300. So I'm interested to see how it's going to work. I'll keep you updated on that.
Starting point is 00:03:09 My next goal of the week is to test some new cozy felt recipes. I still have so many apples from when I went apple picking. So I'm going to maybe make an apple pie or just like an apple crumble. I also saw a really good recipe of doing apples with like a turkey burger. So I may try that as well. My last goal of the week is practicing more no phone mornings. I just feel the best when I have a no phone morning. and I actually journal.
Starting point is 00:03:34 I have been loving just journaling one page, anything on my mind, any stressors, anything I'm excited for, anything I want to manifest, just journaling a page in the morning has helped me so much while not being on my phone. So doing that every morning I'm going to try to be more consistent on. Now on to the affirmation of the week. I'm excited to wake up every single day
Starting point is 00:03:53 and have a cozy, full, productive day. I love the affirmation so much and I recommend affirming that to yourself. Now on to yourself love question. What am I most excited to work on? personally this fall. I love that question so much because we have so many goals with our work, our school, and just other parts of our life. And I want you to ask yourself, what personally do you have a goal that you're excited to work on for fall? Now on to the podcast review. If you want to be
Starting point is 00:04:18 featured on next week's episode, make sure to leave a podcast review over Apple Podcasts and leave a rating over Spotify. This review says, Jaden, thank you so much for doing this. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have any motivation to get out of bed, especially on Mondays, L.L. I love fall and this was just a really fun episode for me. I love you and Jaden, thank you. Thank you so much for your review and I'm just so happy I'm there as motivation for you, especially on Mondays, because I know that's sometimes the hardest part of the week for a majority of us and I feel like the episode just falls on the perfect day for Mondays and I'm so grateful and proud of you. Without further ado, it is time to get into today's episode. Today's episode is the perfect autumn routine for the
Starting point is 00:05:00 coziest and most motivated fall yet. It is so important to make your mornings feel seasonal because that's the start of your day. I'm telling you, it's as simple as doing just little things that are romanticized in your daily task. It doesn't mean you need to wake up every day, big pumpkin bread and have this full on fall morning because let's be honest, majority of us have things to do in the day. We have work, we have school, and it's also not realistic. But there are things that you can do that are simple but just make you romanticize the day and just make you feel more seasonal. So when you wake up in the morning, let's just start with an autumn morning routine. When you wake up in the morning, start opening your windows first thing in the morning.
Starting point is 00:05:40 I don't care if it's freezing outside. Burp the house. I think that's what people will say on like Instagram and TikTok, but like burp the house where you're actually getting new fresh air for the day inside your home and it doesn't feel all stuffy. That's literally the ick to me. Like if I wake up in the morning and the windows, and everything is closed within the first, like, hour of waking up, I will just feel nauseated.
Starting point is 00:06:02 Like, I actually love it to be opened and feel fresh. And as soon as you open the windows, put on a fall playlist. If you haven't made one already, make one right now. But like, go on Spotify, Apple, whatever you listen to your music on, and make a cute fall playlist, put a cute, like, cover photos. So it makes you excited to wake up in the morning. Make it like a cute, like, 2000s rom-com in the fall. Or maybe you want a, like, New York.
Starting point is 00:06:27 York Jazz style playlist. Whatever makes you excited to wake up and have a cozy morning. Another thing I love to do on my TV is I'll search up on YouTube cute fall wallpapers and it always has some nice like music playing in the background and make a cozy drink in the morning. It doesn't have to be some long thing. Maybe you just brew a cup of coffee. Maybe you're going to have a chite latte, a macha, make something for you to enjoy while you're starting your morning. If you have some extra time in the morning or if you need to wake up earlier even to do this, I really recommend having a little activity in the morning that you can look forward to. It just starts the day off on a positive note and also starts off on a note that isn't school or work. It's something that's actually enjoyable. That could be reading a fall book or journaling like what you're excited about the day, journaling your thoughts. Like I said, I do this pretty often now, but I want to be more consistent on doing it because I actually feel so good when I do do it. But another thing you could do is watercolor. You could do like a fall watercoloring book.
Starting point is 00:07:29 Or you can do this, which is a personal favorite of mine, but work on a fall puzzle. Having a puzzle out in your home just at all times and you can just pick it up whenever is so smart because it helps you not do scroll. So whenever you just plan to pick up your phone and do nothing, but you actually don't want to be even scrolling, but you just don't know what to do, do a puzzle. It's already out. It's right there. You don't have to go seek it out. it's right on the kitchen table and you can look forward to it while you do your breakfast or when you wake up in the morning. Another thing is get outside early.
Starting point is 00:08:00 So take a crisp walk or just sit in the sun, bring a podcast along with you on your walk, maybe busy at pretty. Of course, I'm always having those seasonal episodes. So you may want to listen to that or an audiobook. Literally whatever, call a friend, it doesn't matter. But doing something outside early before you get started with your day with work or school can be. so helpful for your mental health. Now when it comes to fall hobbies to add into your routine, because hobbies are something that is just, again, so important to have for your mental health, especially if you just
Starting point is 00:08:32 have a busy life and are trying to balance having a personal life while keeping up with your work or your school or kids or whatever is taking up your time. But some fall hobbies that you can add into your routine is baking. And I know it's very classic and very easy to just say as a hobby, but I'm, kid you not. It's something that is rewarding because one, you're getting a fun baked good out of it. But at the same time, you're also experimenting and it's something to do off your phone. I feel like it's one of the best versions of touching grass, to be honest. You can make some apple muffins, some cinnamon rolls, or just like any, like, cute fault recipe that you see on Pinterest.
Starting point is 00:09:09 Another thing you may want to do is get into your sourdough era. I did that for a long time. It truly is so fun. Another thing you can do as a full hobby to add into your routine is trying autumn watercoloring. I have so many water coloring books and I love general coloring as well. That's something you could do. Get a fall coloring book in color. But water coloring is so peaceful.
Starting point is 00:09:31 It's like you have your water, you have your little palette, and it just makes it so relaxing and a fun hobby to do. Something else you can do is create a cozy hobby rotation. So you don't have to do the same hobby all the time. It's all about rotating and having variety. So you can do reading. So have a fall book or start crocheting. you could do puzzles, scrapbooking, or maybe even making friendship bracelets.
Starting point is 00:09:55 I literally will get like the most random hobbies come to me. I remember one night, it was like 11 p.m. and I'm like, I'm going to start making beaded key chains. And then I got to it right there and then I had some beads and I started doing it. It's all about also doing with what you have. You don't need to order a ton of crafts and tons of things right there and then if you don't have the time or the money. Literally you can do so many crafts just what you have at home with pen and paper. Same with a puzzle. I feel like that's a hobby that's very inexpensive, but at the same time gives you lots of time to work on it.
Starting point is 00:10:28 Now when it comes to a cozy afternoon routine, I want you to have a quote third place. So you have your home, you have your work or your school that you have to go to. But have a third place that you like to go to as a like escape or comfort. Of course, you should make your home your escape and your comfort, but another place that you can look forward to. So that could be a cafe, a bookstore, a library, or a park, or something that you can. you just consistently rely on as an escape or something to look forward to. We all have errands that we have to do throughout a routine, of course. So make errands an activity and make it exciting.
Starting point is 00:11:02 So that could be you getting a drink on the way to do your grocery shopping for the week. Or maybe when you go to the farmer's market, pick up some flowers while you're there, or try to get some seasonal groceries. So when you go grocery shopping, you can actually get like seasonal produce. You search up the seasonal produce while you're at the store. and just try to pick out all that. Another thing you can do is, which is just simple and fun, but instead of having your to-do list or your grocery list on your phone,
Starting point is 00:11:30 make your grocery list on actual pen and paper, it just makes it feel very Nancy Myers-esque, and it's what we grew up on. Like, my mom, she never had her phone going to the store using it, like her list from that. Now she does, but I'm saying back then, like she used pen and paper, had her list, and I sat in the cart with the list, literally what changed. Phones.
Starting point is 00:11:52 Phones came into our life and then we all do it from our phones. And same with the cookbook. What happened to all of us using cookbooks? Don't give me wrong. I love recipes online, but using a cookbook, it's just so nice and it really, again, gets you away from a screen. When it comes to new goals for the season, many of us always put down starting a new business as a goal.
Starting point is 00:12:16 That goal can feel so big and so daunting. When you've never started a business or ran a business, but let me remind you that having experienced, is not necessary for starting a business. Let me introduce you to something that I love Shopify. It makes starting a business easy and it has all the tools you need to launch and maintain your business from day one.
Starting point is 00:12:35 And whenever I use Shopify websites, it is so easy to navigate. What I love most about it is their design and launch feature with Shopify's templates and tools help your stunning site get up launched and running smoothly. Shopify is an e-commerce platform that is responsible for millions of sales worldwide.
Starting point is 00:12:51 It is an online website storefront creator, inventory management system, point of sales system, and so much more. Shopify handles all facets of business so that you don't have to use 10 different systems. One platform is all that anyone needs. Shopify's checkout means more customers actually buy and returning ones can do it in just a single click, powering millions of businesses worldwide from household names to small businesses just getting started. Starting point is 00:13:41 It's for people dating with intention, going on dates, putting themselves out there. Hinge is designed for finding connections. When it comes to me personally for dating, I am just so picky. And being picky is important in order to find the right person for you. And something that I think is so important when it comes to dating is not settling, as I always. always say do not settle for any less than you deserve, which is why Hinge is honestly just the perfect place to find connection and people who really connect with you, have the same interest, and just meet your non-negotiables. And Hinge makes it easy to start a conversation where you can just comment with a like or responding to a prompt. It can just give you that confidence that you need on your journey to finding the person that just understands you and connects with you
Starting point is 00:14:23 the best. Anyways, if you are on your dating journey or are looking to start dating again, I honestly recommend checking out Hinge. It's worth just giving it a try and who knows. You may connect and find the perfect person for you that meets all of your non-negotiables. In your routine, take yourself on mini-dates. It can just be a simple mini-date that you have per week. That could be you going to browse a bookstore or go to an antique shop or it can also be you exploring a new neighborhood, going on a new walking path. Something my mom and I love doing is looking at like cute houses, that are like cute streets and neighborhoods that we want to live on. That can be a fun hobby where you just walk in and get your steps in in a pretty neighborhood
Starting point is 00:15:10 or just check out some new houses that you want to put on your dream house list one day. Now, if you're in school or work, which is majority of us, we all have either work or school in our life. I want you to create a seasonal study work playlist. So of course, have your seasonal playlist that you play right when you open your windows in the morning, when you get up in the morning, do your makeup, but also have a play. playlist that is a specifically study work playlist. So when you play that, it's like, okay, your brain just snaps into like this time to focus mindset. So use your playlist as a cue to get focused. Another thing is use the cafe method. You need to start changing locations when you feel yourself
Starting point is 00:15:51 losing motivation. Maybe you study from home or study at school and you're just losing motivation. get yourself to a cafe or a hotel lobby to work in because that's going to make you focus a lot better than getting distracted at home or getting distracted by talking to your friends, dial in and find a place that you actually have motivation in. It's obviously very hard to dial in and get to work when you have things to do, especially if you feel overwhelmed. So have a reward ritual. And this goes where when you finish a main task or a priority of yours,
Starting point is 00:16:26 go for a walk, go bake, go read, or grow grab a drink, something that's a, you check this off your to-do list and now you get a reward. I'm telling you having that mindset and doing that, it's going to cause you to be so much more productive. Now when it comes to your autumn evening routine, have a sunset ritual. So when it starts getting dark out, and obviously it's going to start probably getting darker a little earlier, I mean, it depends on where you live, but whenever it starts to get dark outside for you, When the sun's going down, have a sunset ritual where you walk outside, you go sit somewhere pretty before it's dark, you go reflect on the day. As cliche or even like quote cringy as that may be, I'm telling you it's going to help you
Starting point is 00:17:06 be much more mindful and also just practice gratitude. Something else you can do is make a dinner feel special. It's so easy to have a dinner where we're just exhausted by the end of the day, whether we order takeout or we cook at home, light a candle while you cook, or when your takeout comes, light a candle, put music on, have a pretty table laid out for you, or if you're going to eat in bed, get all cozy into bed with a warm pack on you. And of course, have no phone. That just helps you be mindful and actually remember your dinner
Starting point is 00:17:36 because it makes it feel special and not just a to-do list or a chore. This has to be my favorite thing in having an autumn evening routine, but have a cozy hour. That can consist of showering and then getting on your chic pajamas of the night and then putting on a face mask doing a hobby. before immediately getting into bed. Again, having a cozy hour and taking time for self-care and actually being intentional about that hour
Starting point is 00:18:01 is going to help you also refuel and recharge from the day that you had for the next day and the week ahead. Let's talk about some fall nighttime hobbies. I know I mentioned baking, but obviously baking is going to be the perfect time to do in the evening. So have a weekly baking night. You could maybe bake a pumpkin bread or something like big that kind of lasts for the next few days or like the week.
Starting point is 00:18:23 So make something new every single week that you can look forward to and it can be a sweet treat that you look forward to every single night when you get in bed. If you don't have one already, create a movie and a show to watch list for the autumn. And same with reading. Have a fall TBR list and start actually checking these things off. I know it's so fun. Just go back to our regular general shows that like we like watching. But I'm telling you if you want to feel more seasonal and feel more inspired for the season, put on something that is seasonal. or read a seasonal book.
Starting point is 00:18:55 Even having something on like Gilmore Girls, which is not necessarily fully about fall, but it just gives that fall feeling and it's very seasonal. That's going to put you in the fall mood. Same with reading a fall book. It doesn't have to be all about fall, but if it takes place in fall, it's going to make you feel like it aligns with your life
Starting point is 00:19:12 and you can pull motivation from the book. When it comes to some little things that can make fall just feel special, these are things that you can do on your weekends if you have extra time. Make a fall bucket list. But when I say make a fall bucket list, babe, I actually am telling you, make it tiny enough and actually things that you'll do so you do it. Because if you're just putting down a million different fall things, like visit this town, visit this town, travel to here, yeah, you totally can do all those things, but also is it
Starting point is 00:19:40 realistic within your schedule? I want you to actually have a fall bucket list that feels realistic and something that you can actually look forward to because you know you're actually going to do it. maybe you're going to write down baking a new thing every single week or going to the pumpkin patch with a friend or going apple picking or maybe starting a new fall hobby and also try to be more specific than just like starting a new fall hobby maybe it's like reading three fall books from my tbr but anyways having a seasonal bucket list can just make it exciting and inspiring for the season another thing you can do is document the season and again this is going to be fun if you or someone
Starting point is 00:20:17 who likes a scrapbook and craft but if you want just take one photo every single day of just the week of the season and to make like a fall scrapbook that would be so cute and then you can print out all the photos or like print them out once a week and then just start building it week by week for the fall that can be really cute and something you can look forward to working on every week I also do want to touch on seasonal depression because I know a lot of people struggle with this and I do want to say you are not alone so many so many of you guys. message me all the time about seasonal depression. And I understand it is hard when you have to go to work, you have to go to school. And at the same time, you're trying to manage the weather, it's gloomy,
Starting point is 00:20:58 it's dark, and how you internally feel. But of course, none of these things are going to heal or cure any seasonal depression necessarily. But if doing any of these things could possibly just make it even 1% better, I would take that 1%. I know what it feels like to struggle with anxiety and OCD, And sometimes when my anxiety and OCD is the worst, it's because I'm so hyperfixated and so addicted to working or so addicted to anything else that I am just wrapped up and stressed on. And it's always the times where I don't have any personal hobbies or personal interest going on in my life. And when I have to actually just force myself to do these things, I will force myself to do a hobby. I'll force myself to get out of my comfort zone and do something like take myself on a date that I
Starting point is 00:21:47 haven't done before. And clarifying, I mean like a solo date, doing something for myself that let's say I haven't done in a while or just feels like hard work. It's kind of an example of like when you work out, when you haven't worked out in a while. It can feel so incredibly intimidating to get back to the gym. And it's not even as hard as we think it is. The hardest part is starting. Yes, maybe you're going to be more sore when you start working out again. Yes, it's going to be harder. You don't feel as strong. But guess what? You have to start something. And the hardest part is starting. So even again, even if this makes you feel 1% better with seasonal depression you have or your anxiety or your OCD or anything that you may be struggling with,
Starting point is 00:22:30 if this even gives you 0.1% better by doing a hobby or by doing something like opening the windows in the morning, listening to some music, going to a cafe, baking something to look forward to every single week, then do it because you are here for yourself. No one's going to do anything for you. We are the creators of our own life and our life and our day is in our hands. I'm slowly starting to transition into fall and it makes me so sad to close that summer, but I can't lie. I always look forward to the new season because I just switch out my wardrobe. But while I've been getting out my old fall pieces, I'm realizing I don't have that much fall clothes. So I've been taking myself on little shopping sprees for quality pieces and one of my favorite places to shop
Starting point is 00:23:18 organic cotton, washable silk, and Mongolian cashmere. That's all very elevated material, but also at a more affordable price, is quince. From apparel to bedding to kitchen essentials, to furniture, made with high quality materials, but are 50 to 80% less than similar brands. It's been honestly one of my favorite places to shop fall wardrobe. I have this one quince dress and I wear it all the time. So you can find the fall pieces you'll reach most for at Quince. download quince app for app exclusive offers or go to quince.com slash busy get free shipping on your order and 365 day returns now available in canada and the UK too that's q you i ncee dot com slash busy but for me in the fall time i just love a new wardrobe so i'm just a shopper and one of my favorite
Starting point is 00:24:15 things to do in bed lately has been shopping on whatnot because it just makes shopping so exciting especially when i'm trying to just replenish my wardrobe for the fall time but it's not just buying, it's also selling. What Not is where sellers shine and find their people, repeat customers that just come back to see your face instead of just a logo, where they're actually connected to you as a seller. Whatnot is the largest dedicated live shopping platform, whether it's beauty, collectibles, electronics, luxury fashion,
Starting point is 00:24:43 sellers are building real thriving businesses. And anyone can sell. Maybe it's time for you to get rid of some clothes that you've had stockpiled in your closet. And who knows, this could actually be your new business. I genuinely feel like I get such good deals when I shop on WhatNot, and it makes it so easy when I ask questions and they could just answer it to me through the live stream. I'm telling you you're going to love What Not. So search What Not W-H-A-T-N-O-T in the app store download and you can start selling right away today. I know it's hard to have to get the ingredients at the store to bake something.
Starting point is 00:25:19 I know it's hard to have to get up in the morning and journal and wake up a little bit earlier to go outside and get some fresh air before work. I know it's hard to take a cozy hour and just have a time to yourself when you have kids or when you have just had a long day at work or school. And while none of this has to be perfect and you don't have to do or have the most elaborate in-depth fall or autumn routine, I just want you to know at the end of the day, anything that you do for yourself is only going to benefit you. I want you to set yourself up for success. even if that means your version of self-care is taking three deep breaths and that's your one minute of self-care of the day
Starting point is 00:26:01 literally just taking three deep breaths closing your eyes and you're like okay that's all i have time for doing that at least like that's gonna give you something positive for your mental and fiscal health that your body is just resetting and your mind is resetting and taking those three deep breaths even if that's all you have time for at the end of the day you should just be so proud of yourself because it is hard to navigate new seasons when you're seasons come about. Personally, I am so excited about a new season because it feels like a reset, it feels like a refresh, but at the same time, it's transitional. It's like it's hard to transition into a new season after you've been with your friends all summer, after you've been having the sun and now it's getting darker or whatever, whether it's like for you right now where you're at. But moral of the story, give yourself grace because that's all you need. You just need to give yourself grace. Do what you can. You know what's going to make you feel better at the end of the day. even if it's hard and starting, and even if taking the first step is the hardest part,
Starting point is 00:26:57 do it because you are here for yourself and you're the only person that's going to spend the most time with you from start to finish. So this autumn, give your boring days just a main character feeling. Dress cute for errands or go take yourself on the scenic route home. Have weekly fall traditions so you could be Sunday baking, Friday movie night, or like Saturday cafe morning. And most of all, don't try to make every single second of the day productive. You can let hobbies exist because they make you happy.
Starting point is 00:27:26 You can do things because they make you happy. You can bake something that's not necessarily healthy because it tastes good and it makes you happy.
