Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello, my love. Welcome to the Busy Yet Pretty Podcast. I'm your host, Jaden Haley. If you're new here, welcome. I talk all about how to become the best version of you and ultimately live a happier, healthier life. And there's so many little things that we can do in our routine to romanticize our life and just enjoy it more.
Starting point is 00:00:26 I also love talking about self-love, self-worth, and honestly just getting the confidence you need to live a happy, fulfilled life. So very excited about today's episode. Today's episode, we're going to talk about the guide to stay. consistent and not giving up because this is something that we all end up struggling with at some point in our life, especially when we're trying to start a new routine or start a new goal. And when we try to go all in and become that best version of ourselves, we, of course, have goals and have a new routine, but it leads us to having consistency problems sometimes,
Starting point is 00:01:00 whether we get burned out or not being able to stay consistent with a goal or a habit that we're trying to do. and of course giving up is one of the easiest things to do, especially when you're just tired and burnt out. So I'm looking so forward to today's episode, but before we get into that, let's go through our weekly review. This week, I have just been enjoying summer. I keep seeing so many videos of fall, and don't get me wrong, I am absolutely enjoying watching the videos, but at the same time, I'm trying to scroll past them and not hop onto another season yet. I feel like it's so easy to be 10 seasons ahead and already on the next season.
Starting point is 00:01:35 And as much as I love that and I do try to tap into a season early, I'm also trying to just enjoy what I'm currently in. And I feel like we should look at that for any season of life that we're in in general. So if you're maybe working at a job that you don't love or you're feeling like you're not the most productive right now, you have to still enjoy the season of life you're in right now. So you have to think of it like the weather and like the seasons of how it is year round where summer is the season that we're in. we have to enjoy it. Even though we want fall right now, we have to enjoy the season that we're in. So long story short, I've been enjoying the summertime. Another thing this summer is I have just been experimenting with new different foods I'm cooking with, which has been really fun. I have been watching Desperate Housewives and I am just obsessed with Bree Vandicamp and I genuinely believe
Starting point is 00:02:25 she is just, just her style is so chic and I love how she always is cooking and baking and I'm really trying to channel that. Now into the current obsessions of the week. My current obsession right now is hydrangeas. I love hydrange jazz all season long, but especially in the summer, it just gives this summer I turn pretty, Susanna Fisher. Like, I love that so much. So I have been loving hydrangeas. Another thing that I have been absolutely loving right now is fruity fragrances. I am very picky when it comes to fragrances, and I'm more of vanilla girl, but lately I just have been loving a fruity fragrance for the summertime.
Starting point is 00:02:59 My last current obsession right now is hair mask. I love a good hair mask, especially the Gizu. Honey one that has been my favorite right now, especially for the summertime, and it's made my hair feel so nice and glossy. I will do that hair mask, and then I'll also mix it with the DP Hugh Gloss Plus, and my hair is just so smooth and glossy after my everything shower. Now into the goal of the week, my goal of the week right now is to do stretching before bed. I saw a video how it really has helped the girl doing stretches right before bed, like she'll do the stretches in her bed before she goes to bed, and then when she wakes up and it's been really helpful for her.
Starting point is 00:03:35 So I want to do some stretching in bed. Another gold week right now is to learn some new breakfast recipes. I will love just a hyper-fixation breakfast where I'm doing the same thing every day. Right now is my buckwheat bowls. I just love buckwheat so much. And I've been eating it for like months now. And I look forward to it every single day. But I'm also trying to get a variety.
Starting point is 00:03:56 So I want to do a new breakfast recipe. And my last gold week right now is to look more at magazines rather than scrolling. There was a time last year. It was when I was dealing with my chronic illness and it was really bad and flared up. I was so into magazines and it just was a nice break from looking at my phone. And I definitely want to get back into that because I love just reading like the better homes and gardens magazines and then like the Joanna Gaines, Magnolia Home Magazines. So I definitely want to start reading those again.
Starting point is 00:04:23 Now on to the affirmation of the week. No matter what when I wake up in the morning, I know that I'm going to be consistent in the day. I love that affirmation so much and it just is so fitting. for today's episode. Now on to your self-love question of the week, what is holding me back every day from being consistent? I love that so much because sometimes the most simplest things are holding us back and it's right in front of us, whether that be your phone or maybe procrastinating, whatever it is, what is something that's holding you back from actually being consistent on the things that you do want to be consistent in? Now on to the podcast review. If you want to be featured

I also love it when you're just talking with us. It feels like I'm your friend.
Starting point is 00:05:24 Stay doing this because you're amazing. Also, I love your long YouTube video so much. It'd be amazing if you can make one again. Thank you so much, Yadi. so sweet of you. Hopefully I'm pronouncing your beautiful name, right? But that's so kind of you and I'm so glad that you're enjoying the show. And yes, I actually am going to start doing more YouTube videos again soon. I used to a lot and now I haven't for a while. So I'm definitely going to lock into those soon because you guys always requested. But I'm so glad you enjoy the show.
Starting point is 00:05:53 And now without further ado, it is time to get into today's episode. Today's episode is going to be on the guide to staying consistent and not giving up. First, let's talk about why consistency matters. We have to remember that motivation fades and systems last. It's very easy to want to rely on our emotions and how we feel, but when you wake up in the morning, I guarantee you, you're not going to want to get up to get ready for the gym. You're not going to want to be productive. We want to just sit in bed, scroll on our phone, or at the end of the day when you're having that slump, you just don't want to do anything but scroll or just get into bed and get cozy. While we all love doing that, and it's an easy temporary bandaid and to not have to do anything,
Starting point is 00:06:33 that's actually hard or have to put effort into anything. It's why we can't rely on how we feel. We have to rely on our habits. So motivation fades like our emotions. We're not going to want to wake up every day and go to the gym. So that is going to fade. But systems last and those healthy habits that you ingrain in your routine last. Small actions compound over time. And that's why consistency builds confidence. It builds that motivation and the identity of the person you want to be. but you've got to stop relying on motivation because motivation is only going to come when you feel like it. You don't every day wake up with motivation and motivation is temporary and that's why discipline creates momentum. We have to be disciplined and it's not that we have to be overly hard on
Starting point is 00:07:16 ourselves. We have to have balance and we have to have that allowing ourselves to, you know, have those off days and we have to have those off days in order to feel refueled in order to be productive, but we have to have general discipline for the times where we're not motivated, for the times where we don't feel productive. So we have to show up even when we don't feel like it. The biggest thing that helps when getting consistency and not giving up is knowing your why. You have to get clear on the purpose of why do you have this goal? Why do you want this?
Starting point is 00:07:50 What is your why behind this goal or this intention that you're trying to put action into? If you don't have a why and you don't have a desire, you're not going to be productive, let alone be productive. You're not going to have the desire to get up and actually want to take action towards it because there's no why. You have to start making your goals meaningful. So revisit your why often, more often than you already do, you may be thinking, oh, well, I think about what I want.
Starting point is 00:08:18 I think about my goals. So that's why when I'm doing my homework, I have to remember this is because I want to do the college I want to get into. But no, every week, every day if you need to, wake up and remember, have that vision board that you look to on the wall and think, okay, I'm getting up, I'm doing my work and I'm being productive because I know I'm going to be productive. I know I'm going to be productive. I know I'm going to be that sweatshirt. That's going to be my school. Have your why so deep and so exciting that it makes you excited to want to do it. Maybe you have kids and your why could be your kids where it's like it's so hard to have to get up and clean the house. every day. It's so hard to have to be a mom and be productive. But your why? What's your why again? Of course, you have to do it, but start thinking, I get to do it. I am so grateful that I get to do this. I'm so grateful that I have a child that I get to get up and clean the house. Maybe your why is
Starting point is 00:09:12 because you want to give your child a great life and a present parent and know you're going to get everything done so you're able to be there fully present for them and show up for them. So I feel like finding your why is one the most important things when it comes to consistency and not giving up. And that also comes from if you're not finding your why, just sit down with yourself, have pen and paper, write down your purpose, write down your things that, why are you wanting this, your goals, your visions. And even if you feel lost with that, go on Pinterest. Look at other people doing things because I guarantee you you're going to find something, find a lifestyle, find somebody doing it, having a life that you want. and then you'll be able to find, okay, this is my why. This is what I'm going for.
Starting point is 00:09:54 This is what I want to work towards. One of the next most important things when trying to become consistent is create an identity. Become someone who follows through with something. And don't think to yourself, I'm someone who's not productive. I will never have that life. I will never be the girl who has everything together. Because if you keep saying that to yourself, you're going to continue being that person. Right.
Starting point is 00:10:17 The version of you that you love the most, that you're something. so proud of, feel that feeling, feel that feeling as if you are that person. So become someone who follows through with their goals, their habits. The best version of you shows up for herself. Act like your future self today and focus on who you're becoming. When it comes to goals, I always say, like, shoot for the highest goals. No goal is impossible. There's no, nothing you could think that couldn't be yours. You really can manifest and have anything in your life, but you also have to realize it's not going to come overnight. So you can't think in your head.
Starting point is 00:10:54 My goal is to make a million dollars. And let's say that you're only earning $80 a day. You can't think to yourself, okay, my goal is to have a million dollars by the end of the month because that's obviously unrealistic and that's so much pressure on yourself. You're also never going to want to actually start or work hard because it feels so far from you, which is why it is crucial that you make your goals smaller. Don't make your grand goals smaller, but you have to break your goals down.
Starting point is 00:11:24 So break your large goals into tiny steps and remove the overwhelming feeling that is weighing on you and you have to realize and look at every day as a win. I like to think of it like this. If you write 30 things on your to do list every day, you're probably only going to get up to eight things done on your to do list. So if you, at the end of the day, only check off eight things and you see you have so,
Starting point is 00:11:46 many other things left on your to-do list, you're never going to feel satisfied and you're never going to feel like you're productive. But if you put down realistic amount of things that you can do each day where it challenges you, you need discipline, but at the same time, it's realistic for you to actually achieve, but it does challenge you, then you're going to see, okay, if you check off three goals out of your three goals, that's going to make you feel not only productive at the end of the day, but you're actually going to make progress. Every day will feel like a win and you're going to feel closer and closer to your goals because you're actually making progress than saying all these things left on your to do list and then waking up every morning and thinking, okay,
Starting point is 00:12:23 I don't know where to start because I have so much listed to do. You also need to remember progress over perfection. Imperfect action beats perfect planning. I always say this, launch fast perfect later, but this is why I did with my podcast. If I have just waited to do my podcast for it to be perfect, I never would have started. I remember the day I was going to put out my podcast and I was like, gosh, maybe I shouldn't do this because it doesn't feel ready. My mic isn't perfect and the audio sounds a little off. And what if I'm like, you know, stuttering? What if I can't say it perfectly?
Starting point is 00:12:57 Guess what? If I had waited, I would have never done it. And I would have never hit the charts. I would have never stayed in the charts. I wouldn't have had you listening to this podcast. I wouldn't have any of the opportunities I have now because of the podcast. And I also would not have made the podcast my job. Literally, there are so many things that it opened a world of opportunities and opened all
Starting point is 00:13:21 these so many doors. But imagine if I never actually turned the handle to open the door. Imagine if I was like, you know, I'll wait to turn the handle once the doorknob feels right. No, because the door knob is never going to feel right. So progress over perfection is so important. Done is better than perfect. Don't let one bad day become a bad week. Same with don't let a bad morning become a bad day.
Starting point is 00:13:43 It's, you could be waking up late. Let's say you're late to work. You woke up super late. Your alarm didn't go off. You're late to work. Maybe you got a bad phone call, bad news, and your entire day just feels bad. Let me tell you, you can't just give up and think, okay, well, the morning's bad. So I'm going to just the rest of the days out to waste and I'll start again tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:14:05 No, literally start again today. Start again right now. Because if you start again right now, you have a full rest of your day to make it the best you've ever had. You don't know what can happen in your day if you change your mindset and change your perspective. I can't lie. Sometimes I am an impatient person, but let's be honest, waiting on things are honestly the worst, which is why I want to tell you about Ehrnan. Ernan is an app, not a bank, that gives you access to money you already earned up to $150 a day and up to $1,000 between paychecks. And no, this is not a payday loan, this is access to your money. That's why there's
Starting point is 00:14:44 no interest, no credit checks, and no mandatory fees. Earned makes money on optional tips and optional fees for features like lightning speed, which gets your money in minutes. But there's also always no-cost options to help make financial momentum accessible to as many people as possible. Download earner on the app store or Google Play, spelled like earning money without the G. Type in Busy Get Pretty Under Podcasts. When you sign up, it will really help the show.
Starting point is 00:15:07 Earnin is a financial technology company, not a bank. Access limits are based on your earnings and risk factors. Standard cash ads take one to two business. days with no mandatory fees, expedited transfers available for a fee, tips are voluntarily, and don't affect the service available in select states. Terms and restrictions apply, visit Earning.com for full details. Something that is so important is build system, not just goals. So begin creating routines that actually happen automatically. So set yourself up for success. Also make consistency easier than inconsistency. Where you know, okay, laying out my gym clothes and
Starting point is 00:15:46 putting my shoes there, it's easier to get. up, then to have to put my clothes back in the closet, put my shoes away. It's easier to get up and go and get the task done, then procrastinate it and put it off. Another thing is focus on the process of it. And one of the best ways to do that is habit stacking. So attach new habits to existing ones. So let's say every morning you go on a walk. Instead of just going on a walk, go on a walk, listen to a podcast, and have your match at the same time. There you have maybe three healthy habits that you have in your routine now. Maybe you're trying to get into bed earlier, but you're like, oh, I have to go study so I can't. And at the same time, I need to eat dinner.
Starting point is 00:16:27 Maybe you could habit stack all that where you get in bed early. You're going to be studying in bed while eating dinner. Habit stacking can be so helpful for just achieving and making progress. So create natural routines and just reduce the decision fatigue where it's not so much back and forth thinking, should I do this, should I do that? Make it second. hand nature to be like, okay, I know what I'm doing every morning, every afternoon, and every day after work. Another thing is make it easy to start. And this kind of is where I said about laying out your clothes the night before. So when you wake up, you go to the gym right away and it just sets yourself up for success. But lower the barrier to entry and just make it easier for you. Instead of thinking
Starting point is 00:17:08 I'm going to do an hour at the gym because that's so intimidating, think I'm literally going to go for five minutes at the gym. And while you're at the gym, I'm sure, since you drove there, you're going to be there a little longer than five minutes. You're going to be maybe even, let's say, 20 or 30 minutes. That is better than not going at all. So the same thing goes with, let's say you're going to go to your errands. Let's say you don't want to do any of your errands, but you say, okay, I'm just going to go to the grocery store. And then while you're out, you may just start being like, okay, I'm going to drop the things off at the post office that I have to drop off. I'm also going to go pick up the thing I need to pick up where it just starts naturally happening, where you're just checking everything off
Starting point is 00:17:47 once you start. The hardest thing is starting, but again, if it's hard for you to start, just aim for a small goal. So like aim for five minutes of a workout. Starting small is better than not starting at all. And when you start small, you're just going to start something new after you started one little thing. So once you do one task, it'll be easy for you do a second task and a third task. And that all will be so much easier all those tasks than the initial starting point. The starting was the hardest part. also remove any distractions and just eliminate any friction that you have that's like causing you to hold back from having consistency.
Starting point is 00:18:25 So maybe for you that's scrolling, which is a universal problem that we all have where we just reach for our phone every Sunday. If you follow me on Instagram or TikTok, you know I do my no scroll Sundays. I just find them to be so important and it really just helps you get off your phone. But figure out and have awareness of what is stopping you from being productive. is it you, maybe you go to a cafe to study with a friend, but then the entire time your friend just gossiping, well, that's not productive.
Starting point is 00:18:54 What you need to be doing is studying. So maybe you need to study solo or find a different person to study with. So be aware of your distractions, be aware of what's causing you to be held back by getting further to where you need to be. This is one of the biggest things, especially if you're someone who has ADHD, you know the all or nothing mindset will literally ruin so much.
Starting point is 00:19:15 much for you and it makes it so difficult. So we have to be consciously aware of removing the all or nothing mindset. Missing once isn't a failure. You have to realize if something happens a bump at the road, let's say you fail, whatever it is, that is not failure. That's literally just a bump in the road and you move on. You have to continue forward. If you stop because one minor inconvenience or a major inconvenience, you're never going to be where you want to be because the biggest things is, is you just need to learn how to pick yourself up. So be your best friend, be the lifesaver, be the advocate for yourself, where you know how to pull yourself out,
Starting point is 00:19:54 have that toolbox of knowing if something goes wrong, I know how to work my way out of it and how to be there for myself. You have to be your biggest supporter, and you also have to see through the mist, through the fog, whatever is fogging your way from success, see through it and just keep having your eye on the vision. Also remembering that progress isn't linear and consistency is not perfection.
Starting point is 00:20:16 It's better to have a month of progress than no progress at all. Same with a day of progress than no progress at all. Stop waiting for perfection because it's never going to come. When it comes to long-term motivation, start celebrating the small wins because that's what's going to help you be excited to continue working hard. Also, track your progress. Something I love is I get a calendar and I have these little like gold stars that I
Starting point is 00:20:41 ordered for myself. and every day I do something. It doesn't need to be a perfect day where I check everything off. But if I showed any bit of effort for myself, then I put a gold star. It's literally an A for effort. It's not an A for perfection or an A because I completed everything. It's an A for effort. So instead of seeing all these patchy areas where only you have a star this day
Starting point is 00:21:03 and then you have a star maybe two weeks from then because there's only two days out of the month where you actually were able to check everything off your to-do list, Instead, you're saying every day has a star because you're productive every day because every day you made some sort of effort. Even if it wasn't perfect, you made effort. Also, romanticize the journey of it. I'm all about romanticizing it. So if you have hard days at work, if you're able to pop in a podcast or make it just feel like what the best version of you, how they would react to it.
Starting point is 00:21:35 What would you do every day? How would you show up to work? Maybe do a different hairstyle. Maybe do a different outfit if you're able to. show up as the person, the best version of you, if they had that job. Embody the attitude, embody the mindset, and be so sure that you're going to get the life that you want, that you're enjoying the season of your life right now because you know it's not going to last long because you're going to be in a better situation even sooner.
Starting point is 00:22:00 When you do get a bump in the road, just start again immediately and don't wait for a new month or for new years or for a new season or for Monday. Don't even wait. Oh, I'll start again. next week. No, start again immediately because one decision doesn't define you and it does not define your progress. When it comes to self-trust, that is so important when being on your path because keeping promises to yourself and following through on small commitments are deeply rooted in the self-trust that you have for yourself and confidence comes from evidence. So if you have that
Starting point is 00:22:34 self-trust in yourself knowing that you're going to show up for yourself every day, you're going to become so confident that you know you will never break that habit. You are there for yourself every single day. And you also not only get that self-trust for yourself and get that confidence for your self-trust, but also you become a person where you know that your boundaries and your discipline cannot be broken, that you have this some sort of like self-worth and like vision of yourself that feels so highly on a pedestal. Not saying that you're better than others, not saying that, but also saying that you're just so aware and grateful for who you are as a person, and no one can take that away from you.
Starting point is 00:23:12 When it comes to comparison, because that's something that is very easy to be done when you're on your journey of goals or whatever you have is comparison and just comparing yourself to people you know, social media, but you have to stay focused on your own path because comparison creates discouragement. And everyone has to start somewhere. We literally have to start somewhere. So even if you, let's say, start ballet, let's say all your friends are a pro at ballet. They're professional dancers. And let's say you just started your very beginner's class. It doesn't matter. Everyone has to start somewhere. And you can't have shame in being a beginner at something. Never be embarrassed for the state that you're in and the season that you're in your life.
Starting point is 00:23:57 Another thing that is so important for not giving up and having that consistency is make your habits enjoyable. Pair habits with things that you love and create a rewarding environment. So if you know you're going to go to the gym every day, maybe look forward to having that macha after. Or if you're going to be studying for a test, maybe look forward to going to a movie afterwards with your friends. Have a reward for you so that it becomes like a triangle. It's the take action and then the reward and then after that comes the motivation. Because it just keeps on cycling then. Then you have the motivated to start again because you know at the end of the day, after you do that, there's a reward. So pair habits with things that you love, have a rewarding environment and just find joy and
Starting point is 00:24:40 repetition. This is really important when it comes to consistency, but protect your environment. So surround yourself with people who are just supportive and create a space and an environment that encourages success. If you hang around five negative people, you'll become the six. So why are you hanging around people who are causing you to feel negative, causing you to find the things and be aware of the things that you don't like instead of the things that you do like. So start being aware of your environment and what you look at on social media, what you watch on
Starting point is 00:25:10 TV. If all those things are negative or bothering you and you don't even realize it, that's going to make you feel bothered during the day and feel more negative during the day. So just limit unnecessary temptations and things that are causing you to feel held back from feeling like the version of you that you want to be. When it comes to giving yourself grace, that is so, important because we like I said we have to be disciplined but at the same time we have to give ourself grace where that also comes in the consistency over perfection. So expect setbacks and learn instead of quitting because it's very easy to be like, oh my gosh, this didn't work out. I'm just going to quit. No, learn from your mistakes. There's always something positive from
Starting point is 00:25:52 something that you failed from. Any quote failure that you've had, there's always something to learn from it. So just remember, learn instead of quitting and growth isn't supposed to be perfect. Also, just don't give up. You're chasing quick results when it comes to many of your goals. And it's important to realize if you give up, it's probably because you're chasing too quick of results and things aren't going to come overnight. You're also just letting your emotions lead and not allowing you to trust the process and trust, okay, showing up for myself every day should be the focus, not, okay, have I had any progress yet? Is there any success in this yet? Stop thinking of that. Focus on just showing up for yourself every day because you're forgetting how far you've actually come. Also, remember,
Starting point is 00:26:39 tiny habits become huge results. There's such a compound effect where today's choices will literally shape next year. So the things that you're doing right now is literally shaping the version of you a year from now. So every action counts. So when you're setting yourself up for six, today and you're working out today. That's going to help you feel better next year. You're going to feel stronger by next year. Do things every day that your future self will thank you for. So some good questions to bring awareness to you being consistent is what am I being inconsistent with? And another question that I love to ask myself is, what's one habit that I can commit to daily? It can be so small, but just what is one habit that you can commit to every single day? And my favorite question of all
Starting point is 00:27:26 time when it comes to consistency is what excuse do I repeat the most? Because we can always think, oh, I'm tired or oh, I'll do it tomorrow, or oh, I'm busy.
