Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to the Busy Yet Pretty Podcast. I'm your host, Jaden Haley. If you're new here, welcome, I talk all about how to become the best version of you, routines, seasonal activities, and just honestly, how to romanticize your day. So you're excited to wake up every day because that's what you deserve and we should all be excited about our life. And speaking of our life, I really love today's episode because this is something that I feel like so many of us experience at some point in time in our life. And it honestly, has so much shame towards it and it can be so hard to take this step. So today's episode is you're allowed to change your mind about your life. This can apply in all different ways from your dream job or just the direction and path of the people you have in your life. Honestly, it can truly apply to anyone. But before we get into that, let's do our weekly review. This week, I have just been navigating some health matters, but I'm doing okay, but just focusing on staying well and just keeping up my mental health steady when navigating this stuff. Another thing this week is I've been enjoying the crisp early fall mornings and nights.
Starting point is 00:01:19 I feel like I love nothing more than early mornings, early nights, especially in the fall time. So those have been definitely a highlight of my week. And another thing this week is I have been focusing on enjoying the season where I'm actually doing things on my bucket list and things I've actually wanted to do instead of putting it off. because I want to be present and not let the season just fly by. Now into the current obsessions. My current obsession right now is to watch a new seasonal movie every night. I've been trying to switch around different movies and shows
Starting point is 00:01:49 and ones that are just seasonal and get me in that fall autumn spirit and it's made me so excited about the season and I feel like it also just helps me romanticize my own daily life more. Another current obsession right now is planning my schedule ahead of time. I always on Sunday nights plan my schedule for the week ahead and I find it to be so unbelievably helpful and productive because I know exactly what I'm doing every single day of the week when I wake up in the morning the following week.
Starting point is 00:02:16 So that's something that has been so helpful. And another current obsession right now is macha with mango puree. I buy these little, they're like almost like baby food, little squeezable packets. And I line my cup before I pour my matcha in. And it tastes so good. It just is like very summery tasting, even though summer's over.
Starting point is 00:02:35 I just love it. It's like very mango, very macha, and just tastes so fruity. Now on to the goal of the week. My goal of the week right now is to add some more a variety into my activities. I often find things that I love and I get hooked on them. And as much as it's important to do the things that you love and that you do want to keep coming back to, it's nice to have some variety in your day rather than doing the same exact activities every single day, which can in turn become kind of repetitive.
Starting point is 00:03:02 Another goal of the week right now is to schedule more time to read. I often just leave any extra time to read that I'm done with my work and I actually do want to start scheduling more time into reading because that is something that just feels like an escape to me and it really just brings me so much joy. I can't lie, I have been in a reading slump. So I'm right now just picked up the very secret society of a regular witches. So let me know if you've read it and if it's good or if you have any bookwrecks that are going to get me out of my slump, please feel free to share. And my last goal of the week right now is to be more intentional with the media I consume. That's both on social media, TV, and music. I feel like sometimes I'll catch myself consuming media that actually doesn't serve me as much as I like it in the moment. A good example is I used to watch and listen to like a lot of crime things when I was younger and it always bothered me though and I never knew why I always felt bothered. And it's because I was always subconsciously scared and disbothered by the stories I was hearing. So when I cut the out of my life, I felt just a lot better not listening to constant negative crime shows as much as
Starting point is 00:04:09 I wish I could listen to it. I just am someone who gets more scared. So just in general, being more intentional about the media I consume and things that actually uplift me. Now into the affirmation of the week. Your affirmation of the week is, I'm allowed to change directions at any time of my life. I love that affirmation so much and it's very on theme to today's episode. Now on to the self-love question. What path do I often think about? but push back to the back of my mind. I love that so much because often we have a dream or some sort of path that we wish we could have taken
Starting point is 00:04:41 or we wish that we would take, but we just won't let ourselves do it or come into our reality, maybe because of other people's opinions or our own self-doubt, so try to think of that and really ask yourself that. Now on to the self-love question of the week. If you want to be featured on next week's episode,
Starting point is 00:04:57 make sure to leave a podcast review over Apple Podcasts and leave a rating over Spotify. This review is from Annen. And Anne said, I love listening to your podcast, Jaden. I always listen to it before sleeping, and it makes me feel so motivated for the next day. I already recommended you to my friends. Thank you and keep going. That is so sweet.
Starting point is 00:05:16 Thank you so much, Anne. And I'm so glad you listen to the podcast at night to make you motivated the next day. I just love to hear how you guys listen to the show. So that makes me so happy. I'm so glad you're enjoying the podcast. And without further ado, it is time for today's episode. As I said earlier, today we're talking about you're allowed to change your mind. about your life. This is about to get very deep and motivational, so lock in because not only am I
Starting point is 00:05:39 reminding you this, I'm reminding myself this. Because we outgrow old versions of ourselves and you're allowed to outgrow those versions and pick new paths without feeling lost. So a question that many of us all have is, what if I don't want the life that I already planned? Whatever old dreams that you had, let me say to you that your old dreams do not have to be your current dreams. Sometimes you change before your plans do. Like many times, we internally change our minds and how we feel about something before our plans even change. Before we even reach that milestone or reach that step, you can be grateful for your past and still want something different. I want to start off saying that I remember a few years ago when I first started social media, my dream was in fact to have a clothing line and
Starting point is 00:06:26 that was my dream. I'm like, I'm having a clothing line, that's it. And I kept feeling so guilty as the years went by being like, you know, that's not a like passion for me anymore. But I never said it out loud, nor did I even want to talk about it to myself. And when I finally just said it, I was like, yeah, maybe I want to like have a home lifestyle line one day because that more aligns to what I like. And hearing that out loud and just me saying it and not only that my mom, who's my biggest supporter, reassuring me that, oh my gosh, no, I agree was the reassurance I needed. But when I got that reassurance, I actually said to myself, I'm like, wait, I didn't need to get anyone's reassurance, but myself. I don't need to get a positive or a thumbs up that I can change my
Starting point is 00:07:11 dreams or change my career path. All I need is the want and desire and a thumbs up for myself. So let's talk about why we're so afraid to change. Of course, number one, like I said, it's the fear of disappointing people who know the quote old you. Many people know the old version of us who had this one dream and had this one ideal path in mind. And when that changes, we just don't necessarily know how to present this new idea or this new path or say that we're no longer interested in that dream anymore to the people who know that old version of you. You do not need to have anyone understand why you choose to change a path of your life. Some people are going to understand that some people won't and no matter what, all that comes
Starting point is 00:07:51 down to the matter of fact is do you want this? It's all about what you want because you cannot please everyone. You cannot live your life pleasing somebody else. If somebody else doesn't want, a certain career path for you or a certain path of life for you that you want, then they can live that path in their own life. You are not here meant to live somebody else's dream. You are here to live your own dream. Another reason why we may be scared to just change is because we're feeling like all this time that we had going for this career is wasted now that we're changing directions. You need to stop confusing consistency with staying somewhere that no longer fits you. Many times we think okay well if I stay consistent if I stay proactive on it maybe that is going to bring me
Starting point is 00:08:34 closer to the goal and I'm going to love it more let me say this again but you're then confusing consistency it was staying somewhere that no longer fits you remember you're allowed to choose again let's first talk about some signs that you've outgrown something some classic signs that we often feel when we've outgrown something is feeling like we're feeling forced to do something or it's draining or unfulfilling another big one is keep fantasizing about a different life. Many times when we're doing something that we don't no longer have passion for and maybe we had it like a lot of passion at some sort of time in our life, but we don't anymore is when we're constantly thinking, what if this was my life? Or I wish so bad that I had this
Starting point is 00:09:14 career path or this path of my life. This has to do with relationships, career, honestly all different areas of life. Another sign that you've outgrown something is your priorities have naturally shifted. You maybe will find yourself putting time into other things or replacing time that you suspend on that dream or like goal of yours. Many times often, we're just staying because it's familiar, not because we want it. Whether this is a relationship or a career or whatever aspect of life, it's familiar, it's comfortable. So why change when it's something already established in our life?
Starting point is 00:09:47 We put so much of our time into it. And also starting something new can be difficult. So that's where we stay in the same spot and wishing for a different life. Let me remind you that you are allowed to change your mind. about your goals, your career, your style, routines, friendship, hobbies, literally everything. You don't need a good enough reason to evolve. You're never going to stay the same age. You're never going to stay the same person.
Starting point is 00:10:10 We always are evolving. So why let yourself not evolve and want something else just because you're scared to disappoint somebody? Or you're scared of what if I try and I fail? The biggest question is, wouldn't you try and know it didn't work out, then not try at all? because what if you tried and it actually became your dream life, your dream path, and exactly what you were wanting? And for evolving, changing your mind doesn't mean your past self was wrong. You're allowed to want something else simply because it feels more like you. I just love building seasonal capsule wardrobes, just items that you can re-wear every season.
Starting point is 00:10:50 So I have just boxes per season that I have in my storage unit that I get to grab out all the clothes in the start of the season. It has been the most fun because I've been shopping on What Not. And I just crave a fun shopping experience that you can do from home. Whatnot is a live shopping platform, whether it's beauty, collectibles, electronics, electric fashion, even baked goods. So many thriving businesses are on What Not. It's so easy because people can just ask questions on the live stream and you can answer them right there and then. I just bought the cutest sweater for fall and it just makes me so happy that I can get such good quality items that are great deals. And while I've been in my shopping era, you may be in your selling era and may have some things
Starting point is 00:11:30 from the summer that you just need to filter out. The number of sellers making over $1 million a year has literally doubled across whatnot. Search What Not W-H-A-T-N-O-T in the App Store download and you can start selling right away. Sometimes it amazes me how much sunglasses are and just glasses in general. I feel like so many of us have that one pair of sunglasses that we kind of just wait until we lose them or they get extremely scratch where we cannot see it. out of them anymore to finally replace them because it's just pricey. And you guys know I love a good deal and I love finding things that are great and affordable that are actually high quality. I recently
Starting point is 00:12:11 ordered a new pair of blue light glasses to wear while I'm on my phone and computer. They're tortoise shell and they're from a brand called Zeni. Their pairs of glasses are at only $30 and the quality is just so good. You can just pick a frame at your prescription, at your lenses and they ship right to your door. So that scratched up pair has done its job. Upgrade today was Zeni, go to Zeni.com slash podcast, promo code Podcast 15 for 15% off your first order, plus free shipping on all U.S. orders for $65. These styles sell out, so don't sit on it. That's ZE-N-N-I.com slash podcast, promo code Podcast 15.
Starting point is 00:12:45 This is a big one because it's so easy to mourn our past self, but you need to stop romanticizing your old self. Sometimes when we move forward and try something new and we follow this path and we think, oh my gosh like this my old self my old self this sometimes we miss who we were instead of actually what we had don't stay attached to an identity just because it's familiar something that you can do is appreciate the old versions of yourself without needing to become them again one of the best ways to do that is just sitting down with yourself and asking yourself do i actually miss this or do i just miss who i was let's say you've taken this step and you're now following a path or the journey
Starting point is 00:13:27 that you actually want to take in your life it can be nerve-wracking to start new, which is why it is so important that you understand that you need to let yourself be a beginner. We are not going to be at the very top or understand everything when we first start something. Let alone being a beginner, you don't also need to think, okay, is this something that's going to be permanent? So let's say you quit your old job and you're trying a new job that is your dream job, but you're thinking, oh, well, is this permanent? Is this going to stay? You don't need to know everything right now. All you need to know right now is focusing on the present, putting your effort in, and not trying to take control of the situation in your head and in your mind thinking,
Starting point is 00:14:05 oh, is this going to be permanent? Is this going to be an actual job for me? Is this going to last? Or should I go back to my old job? No. Focus on the now. Everyone starts somewhere. Even if your dream is to be a author, but you actually have no clue how to write a book.
Starting point is 00:14:20 Guess what? Take a class on writing. You don't have to have a natural, born in talent to want to go after a new goal or a new career path. Try the class. Try the hobby. Try the style. Try the book. literally try the routine or the activity, anything.
Starting point is 00:14:34 It's about trial and error because once you get your foot in a new pair of shoes and walk in them a while, you'll start to see what you actually like. Because who knows, maybe you try something out, you didn't love it as much as you thought you would, you can always go back to your old dream or your old path or maybe even pivot into a brand new one. But at least you tried and know. And trying something new, like I said, doesn't need to be a permanent thing and see, okay, is this it? Is this my new career path? You can let yourself enjoy something without making it productive.
Starting point is 00:15:04 You don't have to put a label on it. You don't have to think, okay, this is a hobby, this is a job, or this is a new relationship of mine. No, you literally can just try it, enjoy it, and see how you like it without putting a label on it or trying to make it productive. Curiosity can be enough of a reason. But why stay in something that you feel complacent in and you feel that you're not living and you're feeling like you're just living a broken record day? when your mind is constantly wondering what else is out there for me. I always wake up every single day thinking like the world is my oyster and it is. Like if I wanted to try something new, I can.
Starting point is 00:15:38 It doesn't mean I'm going to be the best at it nor is it going to mean I'm accepted into trying it. I may be rejected, but at least I can try and see. Because who knows? If I try, it may work out exactly in my favor or if I try and it didn't work out, it's directing me onto something else better for me. So let's talk about how you can figure out what you actually want. Start noticing what you naturally gravitate towards. This can be in your everyday life.
Starting point is 00:16:02 This can be where your mind wanders, when your daydream. And start paying attention to what makes you feel energized versus what makes you feel depleted. I always talk about energy givers and energy drainers, and that's very important, especially when trying to decipher what's meant for you in your life. And this goes for both relationships and also for career, anything. And when trying to figure out what you actually want, something that I always, always do is imagine your life without other people's expectations. You have to think you're the only person in this world.
Starting point is 00:16:32 What would you do? What would you do without trying to please anybody? Because so many of the times we're influenced by what other people are wanting. When I talk about this, it reminds me so much of the book, The Four Agreements, which I really recommend reading. It really just helps you kind of like detach other people's influences on you and other people's opinions and their wants from your life and actually find what you truly want.
Starting point is 00:16:54 I actually should reread that book because it always makes me feel so motivated and realigned to my actual goals. But again, ask yourself, what would I choose if I wasn't worried about being judged? And right there, that can be your million dollar question. And not only a million dollar question, but your happiness question. Because that question alone can determine what your path is going to be and how happy you're going to be. Because if you're choosing a path for somebody else that you don't want, you are going on the path to be unhappy. Make small changes first. I want you to change one part of your routine that you no longer feel like it's right or serving you.
Starting point is 00:17:29 You don't have to have a new job or new relationship or a new anything overnight. It can literally just be a small shift of one part of your routine that doesn't feel like you. That doesn't just feel like it's serving you and that feels like it's not only not serving you but draining you. So you can try something new before making a huge decision. So maybe you have an idea of a new path of a career that you want. Instead of doom scrolling, which is no longer serving you in the evening, maybe search up more about classes on something that you want to start working towards and see is this something maybe I'd want to do or an internship. You need to start creating more space for what you want to explore.
Starting point is 00:18:06 Because if you're always just not allowing any bit of space to try something out, that's only going to keep you on the exact same path that you're currently on. Let small experiments teach you what you actually like. That's where it always brings me down to like an internship. I think that's amazing if there's maybe something you want to do or volunteer. There's so many things that you can volunteer with that are in the same industry or the space that you want to be in. And right there, that can give you an idea of, is this really right for me? And another thing that you can do is also watch day in the life videos of things that you do want to do. And you can see, is this something that would actually serve me in my life?
Starting point is 00:18:41 Okay, I love doing this, but it's updating your vision of life. Of course, we do this every beginning of the year where we have a vision board or a like Pinterest board or just have a new vision of how we want the year to go. But who said that January 1st is the only time we're doing that? No, we can literally do this at any time of our life. So update your vision of life. Your vision board does not have to stay the same forever. So you can start revisiting your goals every few months instead of every once a year
Starting point is 00:19:09 and start removing things that you no longer genuinely want. Many times in the beginning of the year, we write a goal down that we really, really wanted, and we may fully have zero passion for anymore or zero want for it. And there's no point of having that in our vision board or in our life or in our to-does when we don't even want that anymore. So we revise it and start editing it so you can add things that you actually do want into your life. Start adding things that represent who you're becoming, not the person in the past.
Starting point is 00:19:40 This is a big one when it comes to explaining your wants and your path to other people, but you don't have to explain your evolution. You don't. As much as it feels like you owe someone an explanation of why you're choosing to switch your path or switch your life, not everyone needs to understand your choices. You can change without making an announcement as well. So much of the time we think we need to announce everything. No, you can literally hustle, do this in silence.
Starting point is 00:20:05 Your life is yours to experience. Not everyone else is to approve. So that can mean sometimes self-trust means choosing yourself quietly and not having to announce it and get approval from others. It's honestly just common nature and natural for us to want to please people and make people understand why we're choosing to have a certain path or a certain career, especially people you love, like your parents, maybe you're really close to your parents or someone in your life, your relationship, or your best friend.
Starting point is 00:20:34 And when they hear the news that you're not going to do this career path anymore, you're going to leave this relationship, or they just hear this news that you're changing your life and evolving. For them, it's going to be like, hold on, pump the brakes, where did this come from? And sometimes it's just a natural reaction for them, just like it's a natural reaction. for you to want an approval and think, okay, I got the thumbs up from you. I'm going to now continue forward with this. They're going to have a instant reaction, a knee-jerk reaction and be like, wait, why are you doing this? And while you don't need to explain and get someone to fully understand
Starting point is 00:21:08 why you're doing something, let alone get an approval from them of why you choose to do something, but if you love someone and honestly want them to understand, you're welcome to elaborate on it. I'm just meaning not the general person that your acquaintances with or someone that doesn't really matter to you. You don't need to keep justifying or explaining why you choose to do something. But let's say it's your parents or someone you really love and you do want them to understand why you're doing something. It's so nice to be able to sit down and even explain why and explain when you have no passion there for something anymore. It's causing you to be unhappy. And also you can remind someone that you always have the option to restart again and come back to your old life.
Starting point is 00:21:48 there is not a correct or wrong path of life. There are so many options. And if you're just going to sit there and do the same thing that you've done and continuously feel unhappy with it, you're just not living for yourself and you're living for someone else. And let me remind you again that changing your mind isn't failing. You can literally change your goals, try something new, leave something behind or realize what you once wanted isn't something that you want anymore. And with that said, you can disappoint people and still be doing what's right for you.
Starting point is 00:22:17 Because being misunderstood doesn't automatically mean that you're making the wrong choice as much as it feels like it is, especially if it's someone that you love. But sometimes becoming more yourself requires tolerating the discomfort of other people not immediately understanding or immediately getting why you're doing something. I'll say this time and time again, but your life is allowed to be yours where you don't need a perfectly logical explanation for every change and every switch that you have in your life. Sometimes I want something different now is literally enough as a statement, itself and enough of a thought for you to change. I am all about planning ahead as you know and with the holidays coming up, it is so important if you have a business or are trying to launch your business to launch now or start taking charge of it now because we just know Q4 and with the holidays coming up,
Starting point is 00:23:09 this is the prime time. And if you are just needing help with your storefront, how to launch your business or just need tools in general, I'm telling you Shopify is the best place. to start selling and actually seeing a difference. Shopify powers millions of businesses worldwide from household names to small businesses just getting started. And as someone who loves the shop,
Starting point is 00:23:29 I find it so easy to shop storefronts on Shopify, and it's so easy I always get a notification when my item is shipped. Launching before Black Friday means you can take advantage of the extra online traffic. So if you're ready to launch your business before Black Friday, go to Shopify.com slash Busy at Pretty to start your free trial. That's Shopify.com slash Busy Yet Pretty. go to shopify.com slash busy at pretty to hear your first. I say this is my current obsession almost every single week,
Starting point is 00:24:04 but my current obsession, per usual, is electrolytes. It truly just makes me feel so good. And knowing that I'm just getting magnesium, potassium, sodium, and aquaman, and all these great minerals, first thing after I work out, because that's usually when I'll drink an electrolyte drink. But it truly just makes me feel so good and focused. I'm also so picky about electrolytes. And what I love about instant hydration, which is literally my favorite electrolyte.
Starting point is 00:24:29 They use French gray sea salt, which is imported from France and naturally harvested and rich in natural occurring trace minerals. But without doubt, my mom and I always carry instant hydration. Electrolite packs with us in our purses because we always have to have at least one to two a day. And they just taste so good. Personally, my favorite is lemon lime. I'm telling you you will love instant hydration. So for a better way to stay hydrated, go to instant hydration.com slash busy at pretty
Starting point is 00:24:54 and use promo code Busy at Pretty for over 40% all. Your first subscription order, it's Instant Hydration's best offer available. That's instanthydration.com slash busy at pretty, promo code Busy Yet Pretty. You don't need to hit rock bottom or with absolute despise of something in order to change. You can change if you simply just don't like things anymore. So a little change your mind thing that you can do in your head is write down three things, or on piece of paper, you can think or write down three things that you've outgrown. And I also want you to write down three things that you're curious about because many times
Starting point is 00:25:31 we have these curiosities of things that we kind of have passion towards, but we won't allow that to be a passion because we have this familiar setting that we have this familiar path that we don't allow us to even think as far as, wait, is this maybe a possibility that I could have in my life? So again, write down the three things that you've out grown, three things that you're curious about and change one thing this week just because you want to. And doing that one change, begin noticing how it feels to choose from curiosity instead of obligation because what you're doing right now continuing the same path that you don't like is obligation and just comfortable.
Starting point is 00:26:07 But how do you feel when you choose something that you're actually curious about and trying something new? So as we close out today's episode, I want you to remember that every version of you from all the past eras of yourself has contributed to who you are now. It was not a waste of time if you did something for years and years and studied for and you don't want that anymore or been in a relationship that you thought you were going to marry that person, but it just is not your person right now, it feels like. You haven't wasted time just because you're changing directions. And you don't need an entire path figured out because you're allowed to change your mind and change your life and become someone who feels more like you. So anyways, I hope you love today's episode as much as I did recording it. and honestly, it's made me just even have a reality check of what do I truly want in my life
Starting point is 00:26:53 and it helps just realign of my true goals without any influence of other people. If you're listening over Spotify, make sure to comment in the Spotify comment section. Something, a path, a idea, or something in your life that you want, that you just push to the back of your head and that you're going to maybe be more curious about and be more open to.
