Starting point is 00:00:09 Hello, my love. Welcome back to the Busy Yet Pretty Podcast. I'm your host, Jaden Haley. If you're new here, welcome. We talk all about how to become the best version of you and ultimately just live a life that you enjoy. It's all about romanticizing your life. And even though that sounds a little cliche, it is true. Things that you can do throughout your day, your routine will really add up and just make you feel better. So that's what this show is all about and I'm so excited to have you here today. Today's episode is one of my favorites because it is something that I feel like it's not talked about enough. But, today's episode is you are not behind, you're building something that takes time. And we're going to talk about like shifting your perspective on progress and of course your goals. But before we get into today's episode, let's go through our weekly review. This week, I have just really been prioritizing rest as productivity. It is so important to let yourself relax and chill and just enjoy the sweet treats and snacks that you need. Even like a movie night and having some snacks or just doing nothing scrolling on your phone, all of that can be productive. because if you were someone who's working and just overworking and stress,
Starting point is 00:01:13 sometimes you need some of that little like chill time. And like, as some people say, like a girl rot. Like, it's okay to sleep. It's okay to take a nap during the day. It's okay to chill out. You need those things in order to refuel yourself. Sometimes some of those guilty pleasures can be the perfect thing to recharge. Another thing this week is I did not go to Coachella.
Starting point is 00:01:34 So I have just been really using this time to catch up while everyone's away. I just love how empty LA can be when nobody's here. And I just love a little couch cello moment, like a little home chella. I have just been enjoying my mojah at home, relaxing. It's been raining. It just is honestly so perfect. I never get fomo. Like very rarely I get fomo.
Starting point is 00:01:57 If it's something I really, really love, I really, really want, then I'll get fomo. But majority of times, not only do I not get fomo. I get Jomo. Like, of course, Coachella looked fun. but at the same time I'm like, I have just been enjoying myself so much at home right now and just relaxing, enjoying the rain, all that to me. I'm like, that's a perfect day for me. Another thing this week is I have been starting a new spring routine. As you know the past few episodes, we've been talking about spring and a spring reset, and it just has been nice to have that little spring refresh. Remember, you don't need a full spring reset in order to feel refreshed for the spring. Sometimes all you need is just a little refresh. and it can make you feel so nice and on track. Now on to the current obsessions of the week.
Starting point is 00:02:41 My current obsession right now is having that Zen girl yoga aesthetic and not just the aesthetic because of course it's super cute, but it really just makes me feel so recharged in my mind, body, and soul. It makes me feel inspired, motivated, and just happy. Another current obsession, which is kind of tied into that, is 100% cotton yoga pants. I have been in love with just non-toxic and cotton items. And don't get me wrong,
Starting point is 00:03:07 I still buy polyester and I still have lots of polyester in my closet. But at the same time, I'm trying to just invest in a little more quality pieces than quantity. So that has been really nice just like refreshing my wardrobe for the spring, getting all 100% cotton pieces and especially 100% organic cotton. It just makes me excited to wear those clothes and especially when I do yoga. Another one, my current session is a pelvic PT. I have been going to physical therapy for my dysotanomia and my pelvic issues for a while now. and it has been so helpful.
Starting point is 00:03:38 I feel like a lot of people can carry stress in their pelvic floor. I know this only applies to the woman listening to this, but if you're someone who's like stress, sometimes you may feel it in your shoulders or your neck. Personally, for me, I feel it in my neck, but I also feel it in my pelvic floor, and it just will be uncomfortable, and it just has been nice to kind of figure that out
Starting point is 00:03:56 and figure out how to help that and de-stress a bit. So that has been a little current obsession for me right now. Now into the goal of the week, my goal with the week right now is to have at least one electrolyte drink a day. Electrolites can just make you feel so much more hydrated and not only that, but make you feel more awake. Sometimes I get a headache and I just have more electrolytes in my head will start to feel better. So just staying consistent with that and I hate to say this, but ever since my birthday, I've been really off track with my healthy eating. I always am someone I'm like, eat the sugar, eat the chips,
Starting point is 00:04:27 eat everything in balance in moderation because those things, even if they're not beneficial to your body, it can benefit your soul and your happiness. But unfortunately, I'm someone who has many stomach issues and I've been going to a few doctors and they all told me the same thing. I have to just be a lot more conscious on sugar intake and just eating a lot more whole foods right now. So they wanted me to start the paleo diet and I was really good. I did it for about two months straight. Then my birthday rolled around and then all of a sudden I have been just fully off track for over a month now. So just I need to get back on track and I just feel like this is a perfect week to get on track.
Starting point is 00:05:05 so if you're in the same way trying to eat a little healthier or just needing to get back on track, just know that Jaden is going to do it with you because we're both in the same boat right now. We're honestly going to be the perfect motivation for each other. Okay, now unto another goal of the week right now is to wear more compression socks and compression bands. I have found it so good for my circulation and I get less like dizzy and just as nice, but wearing just compression socks and then I also have like a compression waist one, which is close to your heart, which is really good.
Starting point is 00:05:36 And lastly, my goal of the week is to invest in some new running shoes. I don't own any running shoes. All the new balances and the cute type of style shoes I have, I thought were running shoes. They're not. They're just cute style shoes. And I definitely need to invest in some new running shoes. I just got myself some new Merrill hiking shoes. So I'm really excited about that, but I do need to get some new running shoes.
Starting point is 00:06:00 So if you have any running shoe recommendations, please let me know because I need to learn some new brands. Now unto your affirmation of the week. I'm constantly building the life that I desire. I love that affirmation so much and I really recommend affirming that to yourself. Now on to your self-love question of the week. What is a goal of mine that feels out of reach that I will set for myself this year? I love that so much because sometimes we have goals or things that we want to achieve but it just feels too big but this is the time to finally set that goal and achieve it. So we're going to be intentional and I just want you to think about that and what goal you're going to have for this spring. Now on to the podcast review, if you want to be featured on next week's episode,
Starting point is 00:06:38 make sure to leave a podcast review over Apple Podcasts and leave a rating over Spotify. This review is from Peyton and Payton said, Hi, Jaden, I have been listening to your podcast for over a year now. When I tell you, I have listened to every episode at least twice, maybe even three or four times, I am not exaggerating. This podcast has absolutely changed my life. I have learned to be excited for life, live for myself, and romanticize everything. My house. My house. health, both physical and mental, has improved so much since listening to you. Thank you for being an incredible inspiration and motivating me during my hardest struggles. Love you forever. Peyton, that is seriously the sweetest review and I cannot tell you how proud I am of you.
Starting point is 00:07:17 I'm so glad that this podcast has been motivation to you on your journey and you have found things that really helped you, but most of all, be proud of yourself because you are the one who put in the work and I am just so excited for you and all that's yet to come up for spring. I can't be the only one who has this like dream item of theirs that they always see whether it's a bag, a sweater, a top, and you're like, I just need that, but it's like sold out everywhere. That's me with this one, vintage, Duny and Brick bag. I literally was looking everywhere for it and I somehow found one on a posh mark. But not just one. That's P-O-S-H-M-A-R-K.com slash busy. Without further ado, it is time to get into today's episode. Today's episode is you're not behind. You're building something that takes time. So we're going to get into shifting your perspective on progress and goals. And this is going to be one that is almost kind of like a comforting episode where it's like a big hug and a reminder from your future self, almost giving you a hug being like, you know what, babe, you have time, you're not in a rush because as much as I love to lock in on motivation and almost like pushing you to get to where you want to be, at the same time,
Starting point is 00:10:24 I do need you to remember that things take time. We're all in our own journey. So it's important to remember comparison is the thief of joy. And to me, honestly, even more than the thief of joy, comparison is the thief of our time and our progress. Because if we're looking at other people and looking at what other people are doing, what journey they're on, it's going to take us through an area where it's like a different route, where we're not going to be looking at our own journey or our own path, and that's what's most important. We need to focus on our path and what's ahead for us and just keep our eye on the prize and what we want. The idea of being behind is usually based on comparison, like I said, not reality, because everyone's timeline is completely different.
Starting point is 00:11:03 Even if it doesn't feel like it, even if you think, oh, me and my friend, like we both, she's going to school for fashion. I also want to go to fashion school, but I'm behind and this and that. Guess what? Her timeline is different. Everybody's is different. It's not that someone's ahead of you or someone's not. We're all on different journeys and all things work different for each of us when it comes to our schedules, our lifestyle, and our environment. You're building something that isn't meant to happen overnight. All your goals, if, let me just say this, if you have goals that are not happening overnight, that's good because if it's happening overnight for you, let's just be honest, that's probably not the best or biggest goal that you could have. And it's probably also not something
Starting point is 00:11:43 that you really, really want because things we want usually take time and they take it. They're not small. They're usually a little big. Like there's things I want. Like I really want a huge house, of course, like a farmhouse and then on like a beautiful big property with like animals and I want to open like animal shelters, all these different things. But when I say that, it's like that's obviously I'm not going to to snap my fingers and wake up tomorrow and have that. Unfortunately not, but at the same time, you want to think about this. If you had it tomorrow, then there's nothing else to work towards. It's not about the end goal. It's about the journey that matters. This also kind of resonates to the book, The Mountain is You. That's one of my favorite books to kind of remember that you're on your
Starting point is 00:12:28 own journey, so I really recommend reading that. But you need to start reframing behind. The word behind to you because you're thinking, okay, I feel behind. I'm feeling behind, my life's behind, my career, personal life, everything feels behind. What is the word behind me to you? If you're someone who feels behind, let me be honest with you, you probably just have very high expectations for yourself. And that's amazing. That's great. We should. But at the same time, it can be like a double-edged sword. Social media also makes timelines feel compressed and unrealistic. Like, there's so much things that you can compare yourself to or look at your friend or an influencer or a celebrity, whoever it is and think, gosh, I feel so behind because look at what they have already by this
Starting point is 00:13:10 age. Or look at what they have already and they're only this young. Or they just started this job. How are they already offered my dream job? I need you to stop thinking about other people and other people's journeys and their lives and their timeline and think about yourself. Because you can look at my makeup collection and think, oh my gosh, how does Jaden have that at 23 years old. She has thousands of dollars worth of makeup and I can't believe she has that that age. Let me remind you that when you're seeing that on social media and you're seeing that on my post, it's because I was gratefully sent a lot of that makeup from brands. If I didn't have this job, I wouldn't have those. I wouldn't have all that makeup.
Starting point is 00:13:50 Like it came with that benefit. This job came with that benefit. Same like you may be seeing someone you knew from high school traveling the world and you're thinking, oh my gosh, they're always traveling. They're always on vacation. But maybe the realistic part of that is one of the things that comes with their job is traveling and even though they're posting about being on a yacht and they're posting all these things, the reality is their head is just buried in their computer the whole day and the whole trip. So just remember again that you're not late, you're just in the middle of your process. So I also want you to remember that progress isn't always visible.
Starting point is 00:14:22 Growth is happening even when you can't see results yet. Like that's why when I say consistency over perfection, that is one of my best things that I need you to remember because even though the progress that we make every day may feel very small, all that is adding up. It's all adding up because it's like if you do this, if you put a star on a piece of paper every single day, even though it's a little star on the piece of paper, by 100 days, you're going to have a full page of stars. So progress isn't always visible and a lot of progress is internal before it shows externally. Just because it's slow and your progress of what you're working on is slow, whether that's your personal or career, it doesn't mean it's not working.
Starting point is 00:15:06 And when it comes to feeling like you're failing, because you could be thinking, oh, I feel behind or I failed. I also need you to remember that you're building, you're not failing. Every off period is still a part of the progress. So you're learning, resting, pivoting, rejection, all that is still moving forward. Because throughout that time and throughout that progress, you're collecting skills, habits, and clarity. Again, it things, like, we're not just going to snap our and what we want is going to happen overnight. You're not going to get that job that you dream of overnight. It just doesn't happen like that.
Starting point is 00:15:37 You have to work towards things. Also, imagine how boring it would be if we got what we wanted overnight. There'd be nothing else to work towards and it wouldn't feel as rewarding. Think about someone who comes from a very wealthy family. If they're given a car or they're given things nonstop, okay? But let's say they were given a car. The car is not going to feel as rewarding as someone who worked for it for a full year every day saving not eating out saving their money working really hard working
Starting point is 00:16:07 overtime that's going to feel so much more rewarding so don't you want it to feel rewarding start letting go of timeline pressure society put so much pressure on milestones career money life stages like things you have so much things on milestones and while milestones are great and you should always celebrate them my milestones are going to look a lot different than yours. Your milestones are going to look a lot different than your friends. And your friends are going to look like a lot different than your parents' milestones. And your parents are going to look different than a celebrity. Like literally, we are all in a different stage.
Starting point is 00:16:43 You do not need to have everything figured out by a certain age. And that is something where I feel like a lot of teachers push this as well. Like when I went to high school, I remember because I was in a private school, so many of the teachers would nonstop push. really high-end colleges. And while that was amazing and great, like, I'll be so transparent with you. I did not graduate with a very high GPA whatsoever. Like, I was the girl who always needed tutoring. I was the girl who didn't get straight A's. Like, I just, I don't know. It just wasn't my thing. School was not the easiest for me. And I knew, obviously, I was not going to go to a great college,
Starting point is 00:17:22 but let alone, they would not even mention community college. Community College was a no such thing. And another thing teachers would also kind of mention is like, by this age, you should maybe try having an internship. By this age, you should this, this, this, this. It's like, let's be honest, things happen life things. Okay, maybe a death happens in your family. Maybe a big, exciting thing happens in your family. Whatever it is, things stop you. And there's bumps and ups and downs in the road that lead you to that path. Things are not, you can't just think, okay, by this age, I want this because there's so much in between time that you don't know what's going to happen. While it can be a great goal and
Starting point is 00:18:01 something that you aim towards and look forward to and you try for, don't think, okay, well, if I didn't achieve it by this age, then I failed. Rushing the process usually leads to burnout or misalignment. There's things I've wanted before and I'm like, oh my gosh, I need to hurry up and finish it by the end of the year since this was my goal. And then all of a sudden, I did it wrong or like I thought, oh, dang it, I don't like it as much as I would have. I wish I took more time on it. Stop rushing. You were on your own timeline. There is no due date. You have time. You are so young. Doesn't matter what age it is. Even if you're 85 listening to this podcast, you are so young still. You have time. Do not worry because the only thing that rushing is
Starting point is 00:18:43 going to do is cause more stress and cause more misalignment. And not only misalignment, you are going to be led to burnout. Burnout is something that I swear can feel so daunting and it's like you're trying to force a creative thought or force progress and nothing's coming out. Literally nothing's coming out. There's times I've looked at a page and I'm like, I need to be writing a full page of something. And I have zero ideas. Usually when Brnoe creeps up on you, this is your biggest sign that you need to stop and take a break. Breaks are one of the best things and one of the best forces to getting back better than ever.
Starting point is 00:19:19 Just like when the Olympian, Alyssa, took a break from ice skating, she took a break because she needed the break and then she came back better than ever. Breaks are so productive. That's why even earlier in this episode when I said napping, like I've been resting and stuff, all those things are productive. You need those things in order to move forward with your career and in your personal life in general. Take a break sometimes from the progress that you think you need to be making. I always think of this when it comes to your career and personal life where when you get onto a plane and the stewardess says to you, in case of an emergency, put on your own mask first and then put on your child so you can better support them. That's how I think of your personal life and
Starting point is 00:19:59 your business life, your career life. You need to put on your personal mask first in order to better help and support your business and career. So that's something I think about seriously every day. That's like the first thing I think of when I am just starting to get into like this burnout feel. Now when it comes to progress, you need to remember that small wins equal real progress. showing up consistently matters more than big moments. Tiny habits in your daily life and in your routine are what actually change your life. Like I said, the small things add up and that's where the progress is actually at. It's almost like the quote where it says,
Starting point is 00:20:36 The secret to success is hidden in your daily routine. I love that so much and I think it is so unbelievably true. The things that you do and the choices that you make and the habits that you do in your day is what is going to change your life. One of my favorite things for the spring has just been having a fresh manicure. It just makes me feel confident and just put together and clean. But I think I love it most of all because of what I've been doing with my nails lately and that thing being using Olive and June. Sometimes I don't have time to go into the nail salon.
Starting point is 00:21:11 And I'll be so honest with you, sometimes I just don't enjoy going to the nail salon. And sometimes I just want to do it at home. So lately, I have been absolutely obsessed with the Olive and June Manny system. You can literally do salon quality nails at home. It's clean, safe, and easy, which is perfect. And it's designed for busy schedules. So if you don't want to go to the nail salon or don't have time, doing it at home can be so easy.
Starting point is 00:21:34 I just love mine so much and just my nails feel so strong. Visit olive and June.com slash pretty 20 for 20% off your first system. That's O-L-I-V-E-A-N-J-U-N-E dot com slash PR-T-T-Y-T-Y-2 for 20% off your first system. When becoming the girl on your vision board, it is so important to have a set wellness routine. But it doesn't have to be a lot of time, whether you're traveling or just having a spring refresh, have something for your health that you can rely on. That's why I love AG1. AG1 is a daily health drink clinically shown to support your gut health and fill in common nutrient gaps. AG1 is so loved between me and my family.
Starting point is 00:22:24 I drink it all the time, my mom, my dad, my brothers. My grandpa, like we all love AG1. on here. Most importantly, because it's so easy, you can literally just pour it into water, shake it up, and you're done. And it just feels so good to know that your energy, your immune health, and your gut health is all being supported. I seriously could not have a spring refresh without it. It's literally my favorite right now. Go to drinkag1.com slash pretty to get an AG1 flavor sampler in a bottle of vitamin D3 plus K2 for free in your AG1 welcome kit with your first AG1 subscription order. That's $72 yours free. Only while supplies last. Go to
Starting point is 00:23:00 drinkag1.com slash pretty. With that, progress can look boring, repetitive and slow. You can't think, okay, I'm going to start doing this and for a week, then by a week I'm going to be offered my dream job. No, take time to research about those jobs, start going to school for those jobs, start doing experiences and learning and reading on it. Take internships. It's all about the habits you make for yourself. And again, someone else's journey is going to look so much different than yours. Now when it comes to your own path, you need to trust your own path. What's meant for you won't require for you to rush or force it. Things that are forced are not meant to be. There's like, it's almost like a relationship where imagine if you're trying to force a job to yourself and you're like, gosh,
Starting point is 00:23:49 I was offered this job, but I really just don't like it, but maybe I'll like it after a while, but I'm just going to keep forcing myself. Two years go by, you still hate it. You're still trying to get yourself to like it. Obviously, this isn't working out. And also when it comes to rushing something, if you have to constantly rush something in order to find that you're making progress, that's also maybe not for you. Comparison disconnects you from your own path. That's where I also like to think of like the turtle wins the race. If you keep looking to the side of you, you're never going to win the race for yourself.
Starting point is 00:24:20 And let's be honest, you're only in a race with yourself. So when you're comparing yourself to others, you're not in a race with them. You're in a race with yourself. The more you trust yourself, the less pressure you feel. Now when it comes to feeling like you're falling behind, constant comparison, especially online, will always make you feel like you're behind. Not only are you comparing your path to theirs, you're setting yourself up and your environment of your mindset in a negative space.
Starting point is 00:24:46 Imagine if you wrote down that you need to achieve 20 things in your day. Okay? So you wake up in that morning, you're very overwhelmed because you think, I have 20 things to do today. I don't even know where to start. One, you're probably not going to have any progress that day because you have no clue where to start so you're just going to drop it all and do zero because doing nothing is easier than starting and number two it doesn't matter if you had all 24 hours in the day worked nonstop had your matcha
Starting point is 00:25:13 had your coffee and got to work you still probably won't achieve all those 20 things so even if you achieved 17 of them you didn't achieve 20 so you're going to leave yourself disappointed at the end of the day so why are you setting yourself up for failure that's the biggest thing stop setting yourself up for failure, set three tasks to do, okay? Then you can have your extra ones if you finish those, but stop setting your expectations so high where you will always guarantee leave yourself disappointed because let's be honest, we can't do it all. We're not super human. We can't do it all. But if you keep putting and setting high expectations for yourself, you're never going to achieve them and you're always going to feel like you're behind and disappointed. Re-align with your goals,
Starting point is 00:25:56 maybe you're setting way too high of goals. I used to when I was like, 16. I would think, okay, by the time I'm 18, I want to make this much money. And I remember thinking by the time I'm 21, I need to make a million dollars. Okay, I did not make a million dollars. And I was so disappointed, of course, wasn't even close to a million dollars. And but it's like, imagine if I said that every year for me. I'm like, okay, I want to make a million. Then by 282, I want to make 5 million. Then by, okay, age 60, what am I going to put? I want to make 1 billion. It's like all those things can be great. goals and could be achievable 100%, but you can't set those things that are way too far from you in a short amount of time. Set short-term goals for the appropriate time period and set huge long-term goals for longer time periods. You don't even need to write down if your goal is to make a million dollars. You don't even need to say, by this certain age, just say, my goal is to make a million dollars. because that's maybe really far from what you have right now, but maybe what you could do is, okay, my goal is to make $50,000 and you put that for this year.
Starting point is 00:27:07 That is a good goal to have because it's more realistic than saying, okay, making a million dollars. Break goals down that would are feasible to you and that are truly realistic that you can think, okay, I truly see myself achieving this for this specific short amount of time. Another thing you need to do is ditch the all or nothing thinking that's going to do nothing but leave you feeling burnt out and having zero progress because you'll have a perfect day, then you'll have a progress day with zero. Another thing is only valuing big achievements and ignoring small growth. That is going to be another thing that really puts you behind.
Starting point is 00:27:44 If you don't celebrate your small wins, then you are never going to get feeling achieved. Again, achievements and success are all rooted in the way you view it and you. your definition of them. What you have in your life right now may feel like you've achieved nothing, but for somebody else, it feels like, wow, that was like my lifetime long goal. So again, it's all how we define achievements, success, and behind. Now shifting into that builder mindset, for building the lifestyle you want, whether it's the personal or the business aspect, whatever it is, start identifying as someone who is building their life. Focus on daily actions instead of end results. Have that mindset you're in your becoming phase and that's where growth happens. Find the joy
Starting point is 00:28:27 in the small wins that you have and find the joy in the ups and downs. There's going to be times you're rejected. There's going to be times that things just fall apart and didn't do good, but you have to realize that wasn't a setback. Those are literally bringing to where you need to be. And not only that, it's giving you experience. Experience is one of a kind. You cannot buy experience, but what you can do is learn from experience and experiences come from trying. You have to try in order to experience and even if you fail, that's okay. Literally the amount of times I failed or rejected from something and it just am like, oh my gosh, thank gosh that didn't work out or it would have brought me to this,
Starting point is 00:29:10 which I would have never had the life I do now. And also timing could be wrong. There's times that I was rejected from something where I'm like, dangy, I really wanted to work with this thing. and it didn't work out, but then a few months later, they circled back. And I'm like, no, this makes sense why they circled back now because it's so much better timing in my life. So I want to have a few closing thoughts for you is that you're not behind. You're just earlier in your process than you think.
Starting point is 00:29:36 The life you want is built in slow consistent steps. And it is not going to happen overnight. And most of all, you have to give yourself more credit for how far you've already come. because if you think about yourself from a few years ago, the progress you had, even if it feels like there's been no progress, you've had experience and you've had growth from experiences. So even if it's not pen and paper, like you didn't get that dream job of yours yet, or you didn't get yourself to where you want to be, or even maybe you reverted back to some things where you feel like you have less progress, where you've literally just reverted.
Starting point is 00:30:10 It doesn't matter. It's all about experiences. I am just so proud of you and I hope you know if no one's sold you today. that you are doing so well and I am truly so proud of you. So thank you so much for listening to this episode.
