I have portions of Dark souls maps one two and three in my head. Yeah, but Boy is there like 40% clutter in there. Yeah you know um Like like desk two and desk. I keep seeing desk. Shit Dark Souls two Like I can tell you where majula goes to haze tower or backwards to the to the fucking forest of giants

and and and Uh, uh, you know how all all those like linear pathways go, but then you're like Wait, but what about where was that again? And like it just it it's not gonna stick around And if the if the open world ends up being like five times the size of any of those things, um We're all just gonna die you say you think it's cool, but we're gonna die There is a way to do it and that is to provide landmarks Uh If you provide a map in which you can almost always see at least one landmark from every location

And in many locations you can see two landmarks That's good. That's fine. And if you're teleporting and if you're teleporting to bonfires with pictures of said landmark Then sure I want bonfires to cost money I want it to be Okay, woolly

You never played dragon's dogma and in dragon's dogma dark arisen they massively Massively curtailed it but in the original dragon's dogma You could teleport to one area and it was the main city and that's it And one of the final upgrades at the very end of the game Was that you unlocked a teleport stone you could put in one place And that was it and the fairy stone cost a shit ton of money. It was super expensive. That doesn't sound fun That it was fucking awesome. That doesn't that it was so good. No, that doesn't sound fun to me That sounds on let me explain

All right, because The night and day system Made it so that when you traveled from grand soren up to the tower in the upper right corner of the map It would take you about half an hour and you had to make decent progress and actually Do it well because if you took too long it would become night time and all the fucking undead and badass monsters would come out Okay, but the 15th time that i've i'm doing it Where i'm just going back to collect some bullshit. I don't care anymore Playing your trips. Yeah, no

So I don't know but just the way you're describing it if i'm thinking about the number of times I have to backtrack places to Do things to collect things to talk to people to do side quests etc As I would expect of one of these games Oh, the main thing is that in dragon's dogma you didn't actually backtrack that often You would make long trips out to areas and a long trip would be a long trip because you could not Fast travel and then you would come back and then you would make a long trip to a different area Uh dark arisen the the the re-release they just gave you more of those teleport stones

You could leave all over and then they just gave you a fairy stone that was infinite So you could fast travel like normal And it was for pussies and how often did you have to do all cowards? How often did you have to do the same half hour trek? The same half hour trek uh up To the tower you do it literally once Up to the upper left of the map you do it

Uh, maybe twice depending if you explore it out there To the bottom left of the map with the the ogres Maybe twice Depends how much you explored like you're you're doing them one If if you're not exploring and you're just going where the game is telling you once Okay Maybe twice I can't can't tell you till I actually try it, but what you're describing on paper sounds awful

It's so good It's so much fun Tra- traveling through that game and ain't getting dark is like legit one of the best parts Of any game I've ever played and the fact that a lot of people didn't get to experience it because They could just fast travel everywhere is legitimately depressing Because when you're able to fast travel all over the place, there's no situations in which you can get caught out at dark And it's the only console game made by a large publisher that has real nighttime

map like I said like I said mapping all those special little things as you unlock your your Uh, uh, your your samurai points your ninja points your onmeo points Uh, and then we never even talked about the clan system that you you eventually unlock I don't even know what you're talking about. There is a clan system that you join one of all the different Uh prefectures in japan all have a clan And you join and then each one gives you specific benefits Give give you specific things you can trade in for specific rewards And then you can also spend glory points

To glamour yourself up as other characters in the game if you wanted to Or get access to specific random high quality weapons gestures Oh, that's how you change your appearance Okay, uh, there is a whole and and of course Uh, most importantly clan battles So there's the you join a team and then you all have to compete For you know, there's daily and monthly

The pseudo online networking competition going on for your clan points. It's madness. It's fucking madness, dude The game just like it's all the it's all the menus and like technicality and like Subsystems you'd expect of something like championship manager But then there's just an action game there to an action game. Yeah It's it like take away the action game and you would still spend all of your time on a map Going into sub menus changing things managing points handling shit But also here's this high-end action game Fucking crazy, but uh, yeah still enjoying having fun

um You know difficulty is is Uh, uh, it catches back up to you and and it has a number on each mission I forgot about that. It's straight up tells the level. Yeah, it's like you should be this level approximately So you you know what you're heading into Um, and if you want to go and and face like shit. That's way above you. You're gonna suffer and it is what it is Uh, you've got like The the entire like also like uh co-op with a friend or to fight somebody randomly

And all that shit like there's a whole multiplayer the whole multiplayer menu that I just I never bothered with it I I never really did anything with it. But like that's there if you're if you're looking for that I mean it it just it's uh It is a bottomless well To fall into and you have to draw a line in the sand the kind of thing Where you get exactly as much out as you want to put in Yes, absolutely. And like you're and there's you're just your inventory Like you do like five missions and your inventory is like hundreds of Soar of weapons armors and consumables deep You know and for consumables even like you map eight You know to your your quick 70 unique types of You're mapping you're mapping eight from your

Replenishable ninjutsu On mio or like full full consumables to the thing But there's like yeah, there's a list of Fucking hundreds that you're going through Um, you've got your equipment of which there's five things on your body And then you've got your two weapons. You got your two Uh, you know long range and then you have your two charms And your charms are pretty variable as well and you want to change your charms out depending on what kind of boss you're gonna fight

Um Okay hundreds is perhaps an exaggeration, but there's a lot it feels it feels like a lot. Um And of course, uh, when you go to the blacksmith you can forge items buy items sell items Uh, there's special finds and discoveries sometimes There's like the fact that the subsystems have a A like intelligent selection system where it's like go to the sub menu of armors Select everything that is uncommon or Less valuable in rarity and sell those only and you can put on a warning that says hey

This item is pretty good. Are you sure you want to sell it? And you can say yes or skip all or whatever just shows you how much menu managing they expect you know It's a lot but i'm i'm not complaining because it's You know, it's optional. You can just pick up the big shiny number put it on and keep swinging Uh, based on something somebody in chat said I went to the neo 2 for extra life and discovered that neo 2 has Dozens of mechanics

relegated entirely to new game plus Oh Oh man Oh, yeah yeah Like it adds new types of items to the loot pool that do all sorts of stupid shit Neo 1 complaints that I hope they fix in 2 when you glamor something

You can't see what it looks like on your body until you finish the process You can only see it Or although like okay, you can put the thing Itself that you're choosing on your body, I guess But like in the menu while you're going through it quickly. You're just not getting a quick reference point So like to see how things match together for fashion souls You know, it took a while to like do it slowly. They fixed it. pathways Right it forks into three And then like one of those forks leads you above so you can see everything And one of those forks leads you to another set of forks Yeah And then the one that's above will then let you run on the rooftop of a building And see that like okay the forks that are coming are

Like two of them are dead ends But two of them are connected And one of them goes off in a distance that you can't tell and then there's another two doors In one of those dead end spots while you're on the roof of the fork from the fork And then there's another path that goes the other way entirely and then there's a safe point there Because they they split the difference between like this is a fucking combat room Mm-hmm And then there's the this is a this is like a floor of sense fortress

They will like yeah Now however to its credit Once you find your shrine like bonfire thing and you start further on in the map or whatever um You always do have a it's not quite a map But it is a like sonar radar blip indicator It's kind of weird that shows you where points of interest are If you're nearby you'll see an enemy dot and there will always be an objective

Vague direction dot on the edge of it that you move towards So it's not a detailed map, but it's just a bit of a sonar system That you can work your way towards you know Even though like it's quite rare that you see it on the the dot on the map And you're like oh, I can just walk there in a straight line No, no you can't furthermore if you're doing like a a alternate version of a mission Sometimes you kill the the objective in a random house in a random location And then the exit to the map

Spawns there on that body, but you're not finished exploring so you go back and explore everything But then you have to make your way back to that one specific room in that one specific house To exit, you know, so there's there's just a lot happening in the end Yeah, and also Most of the bosses are pretty rad But I've definitely fought at least one that sucks ass Which one's that it's a giant water monster

and It is not at that far and it's and it's less of a Monster or human being that you're dodging and swinging at and it's more of a like uh occasional You can hit me every once in a while, but I'm a giant kaiju size thing And I'm I'm I'm gonna just shoot shit at you and every once in a while. I'll slam a hand down that you can swing at Oh, it's that stupid fucking thing that attacks the boat. Yeah, that's seen exactly You fight that eventually

Oh this It's a shit boss. It sucks does not look great It eventually lands on the stage and then you can swing at it While there's ads and the ads suck But Like while the body is there You can either have a really shit time trying to get up in its face while it can do instant murder beams Or you can wait to swing in its hands. It's like an ocarina of time boss. Yeah, you can definitely speed it up by like grabbing fire and and and like You know trying to to sort of rush its face, but you're you can but like when you're swinging at its body It's kind of at the edge of a up here where you can fall off quite easily. So like urian is like one of her cards urian will get buffed for every time a card gets unlocked for example um It's it's a unique thing the game hasn't had up until now like temporary locking of fields in order to You know get get buffs out of that And alongside eta is strider Who's not playable as a full character, but a bunch of strider based themed cards are are now playable um One of which is really cool. It's striders basic card, which is a

uh You know, it's a it's a normal card that has decent stats and it attacks very quickly And every time it does it summons option a option b or option c Which will either give you Flying agility or shield and do a little bit of damage to whatever you're attacking. So like it is it's absolutely like striders little pets Coming in the bird the the the panther or the um the floating little pod, you know and uh

Your your opponents moves a little bit But if they do fakes, it's not going to be intelligent enough to deal with that so you have to repost properly Um, you've got, you know, the different directions left and right high left and right low that you can swing the sword in And then you have up close a grab which is Instant death if you land it grab and stab. Yeah, uh, or you can use your offhand to Knock their hand away So if you're within the range to do so and they're swinging at you You can like just tap their blade to the side or their hand to the side as you would do if you were shieldless fighting

And just get into like some really ugly Like you're swinging at me instead of tinging my sword off of yours I'm gonna just grab your wrist and be like fuck you And then stab you that works. But the last the last most important detail that you need to understand about infinite versus 3d mugen is that It introduces the world to a next level Netcode called blitz netcode Oh god, that's where that fucking shit came from and if you think for a fucking second That this shitty rollback world we live in is going to take over and become the new standard You need to fucking sit out and shut up

You're about to learn about blitz netcode proprietary of this it is absolute like It's it's fucking proprietary netcode For infinite versus The game is free, but you have to pay the 15 or 20 bucks to get access to the online Now how does it work? um Here here from the page It describes how is blitz netcode different from rollback? Which migrated some stuff, but didn't keep my my my cloud save for some reason Um, so then when I booted it up and I started playing I went forward Uh, and then when I decided you know what fuck it. Let's let's play it on stream again I went back to the ps4 and I took the old save and I put it on a usb stick So yeah, I have a physical backup of the decision point that I can use to go Wherever the game needs to and not have to do the full thing. You level up your character. You learn skills There's different classes magic man's but it Made by the bullet storm people or the I think it's did they also make

painkiller original I want to say they did for starters. Is it fun? Yeah, it's great. Okay It's spent like I wouldn't have played it all weekend and like leveled up a bunch of different characters If I didn't think it was great Uh, it's just a really solid Like action rpg with like a bunch of gear mechanics and level up mechanics and Like you you're shooting

Lightning and fire at people. It's it's great. Like it genuinely feels like a and it's a free to play like it No, it's a regular so that one of the funniest things about it Is when outriders originally got announced I mocked it for being another live service disaster Okay, and I'm not the only one So when we got it and we got the the the uh, you know the the the ad copy or the the the talking points In like massive capital letters. It's like Outriders is not a live service game. Okay, and I'm like, okay, let me go

Let me go and check this a bit more And the answer is that it is not a games as a service It's not a live service and they are not even calling it a loot game It is a action rpg That has loot and levels and stuff And it has an ending and it has an ending plus Like kind of mission stuff to level up your character. Okay, and then they have done interviews in which they say if the game sells pretty well We'll put out an expansion

Like a regular video game well because we got pitched some ads for it too And uh, I kind of went like yeah, I'll I'll take a look at and see what this is. Um, and at a glance I I It seemed like it was a gas game But it does it does from a distance. So it really it it the the the the like through line of Like what type of game it is

Goes like Diablo borderlands Outriders Like rpg that you you grab a character and run through the story and loot up and get all that stuff and maybe you put some items in your Slute and then you then you'll pick a different character and run your way through. Okay. Um It has The weirdest tone I've seen in a game in a while

because it is Like viciously grim dark. It's so upsetting Like it's so Like it's like What like they're talking about how like the rebel faction in the game is like eating their children because they're all starving Like it is it it's just horrible Except for your main character It's like dropping like like a fucking star lord character in

Where they're upset they didn't get to say their cool line or they're annoyed the guy they were escorting flew up But everyone around them Is in like nightmare world And is that a deliberate super functional decision? I don't know It's super weird It's like duke nukem went to warhammer 40k It's it's wildly inconsistent. Yeah, that sounds fucking

Okay, weird. It's it's it's often really weird. It's often legitimately really funny Because it's it's it's not How to put it it's not funny in the way that somebody tells a joke and it's funny It's funny in that the absurdity of the situation is kind of like darkly humorous So, I mean like does it play the music to make you feel sad about what you're seeing? And then no slapstick man walks in and and goes wabba wabba wabba Let me give you an example sure in the in an early sea in in the demo There's a bit where you have to go try and save a lieutenant

And you run into the lieutenant you kill a bunch of dudes and the lieutenant is digging his way out of a cave in With an enemy soldier and you help the enemy soldier out and he goes hey, hey, hey, hey We're we're like we're all working together here. Let's all chill and you go. Oh, yeah, okay And then you help the lieutenant out and he goes oh good work soldier And then he immediately shoots The guy that was helping him and then tosses a grenade after him and his body chunks Like almost onto the screen like there's a mist that fires out of the hole And your character goes seriously

And he starts giving a speech about what do you think is war we're gonna and then that guy gets just shot in the head And dies and your character goes why did I even bother doing this side quest at all? Why did I even do this because the guy you came to save is dead and you didn't achieve anything? There's a clip of it on a quiet-sized channel if you want to take a look at it Okay, am I sure it's not trying to be funny? I don't know because it's also trying to be like viciously dark There is a moment in the tutorial Where your character gets injured and then gets like basically you you land on a planet and it's completely normal and idyllic But then your character gets injured and then they get put in cryo and when they wake up out of cryo

They're in essentially world war one With monsters, okay, and they're like fish out of water and everything's crazy And you're going down a truck and you're going down a fucking tunnel that is like nothing but hanged corpses That are hanging against the truck. Okay, it's one of the darkest things. I've ever seen in a game And then like two minutes later the character's like wow, they're running away from me I'm a badass and then shooting like lightning bolts Like it's super weird. Yeah, I guess genuinely bizarre. I guess the question is is like are they meat gags? Or are they meant to be really like disturbing? You know

Both. Yeah, okay Like it's it's like did you ever play bull bull storm? No Bullet storm was like it's what was actually happening in bullet storm was a fucking nightmare Like it was it was like the end. It was like the that planet that gets fucked to death in um firefly Sure Like But your character is an idiot and is like screaming at jennifer hale that she'll kill the her dick And are like oblivious to the the existential nightmare horror

Of what's going on See, I don't like if well, you know, just based on what you're saying if it doesn't actually decide or have a clear One or the other that would that jarring this would probably start to get really grading at the further you went in because um The tone you establish I think is like Important to like create a lens that you're supposed to view it through in a way

Or at the very least give you some sort of indicator And if and if the whole point is to subvert that and fuck you up with it in the end Then so be it that that that that's your goal But like if you go in you go into half-life for example, and you see the The meat gag come flying out the tube and you go, all right That's meant to be a fucking gag, you know, um, yeah, or or you see like the way Like the cages of people are cubed together in doom and you're like, it's yeah, it's doom

Duke Nukem forever, right? I did you remember When that starts getting into the like alien pregnant Burthing levels and whatnot. Yeah. Yeah, where you and Duke is like Yeah, they're dead. Yeah, my the Olsen twins are now alien preggers. Oh man, and yeah, it it is and then they just pop and you're like Okay, like these like ridiculous Things where they go to the maximum.
