Starting point is 00:00:00 МУЗЫКАЛЬНАЯ ЗАСТАВКА Who could it be? Who could it be? Who could it possibly be? Oh my God. All right. What? Hey, Brennan. Welcome back to the show. Welcome. Hey.
Starting point is 00:00:50 Oh, hey, God. It's a mad. Don't call me Brennan. It's not my game. It's a mad. It's a mad and family reunion, apparently. Say my name, will. Who's me?
Starting point is 00:01:01 Or my? God. Say my name. God, damn it. This is me formerly storming castle superbeasts to take your name. Like the first was already the first name was already taken as the bit and now the last name is taken officially. It is it is it is better willy himself. Hello. Hello. Yeah. Hello. Hello Yeah, no no shout-outs. I'm I'm Yeah, nice is nice to have you back on the show and and obviously A lot is going also really sick logo with by the way with the new black mace madness like designs and everything you got going on
Starting point is 00:01:44 There's super clean. Oh, thank you. Very. You did it myself. Very, very aesthetic. Fuck yeah. Yeah. Yeah, my new thing is I work on weekends obviously.
Starting point is 00:01:55 But during the week, I just make a new t-shirt. It's hell yeah. So yeah, there's a lot going on on and yeah, we're popping off absolutely. What's what what what's the I guess the The current big thing to put out there to let everybody know what you've been up to Dang, man, you know, so like I got fired. You know how they're doing all these like big releases and companies You know, they're doing all these big releases and companies. Yeah. We're going to talk about it. You know?
Starting point is 00:02:27 My company did that. You got. So I'm not employed by WWE. You did just to catch everybody. Did you get fired? Or did you get fire? I got, no, I didn't get fired because bits got fired. That's right.
Starting point is 00:02:41 That's right. I got in this I got a... In this business, people like you don't get to work for this company. I got the new flavor of fire. Yeah, so I got fired. And then wait, 90 days, because that's what they do.
Starting point is 00:03:00 90 days before you're allowed to do anything. So I buy it my time. I made a bunch of t-shirts. And now we're allowed to do anything. So I bite it my time. I made a bunch of t-shirts. And now we're starting to pop off. When I get to work every weekend, I get to have fun. It's pretty rare. It's almost as if you were known and people liked you
Starting point is 00:03:17 before you started wrestling, and that you could continue to have the people that know and follow you once you leave the WWE. Yeah, and I'm not bitter about anything or anything like that, but in terms of like platform, you only, I only got to do this much, you know what I mean? So to be able to have like full creative control, like I've done a couple of shows already now. And I can just do whatever I call. Like I'm truly unbound.
Starting point is 00:03:54 I'm like a uncontrollable storm. And not for lack of trying certainly. I mean, we saw those JoJo poses, right? We saw like every attempt to push up against the wall to get everything sick in the ring, was we saw that shit, you know, you really did. I did my best, you know, I was in WWE specifically. You're kind of, you're allowed to do what you're allowed to do, right?
Starting point is 00:04:28 And I was given a couple of opportunities that were dubious. But I tried to make the most of them in every scenario. And as I do, I try to make everything anime. So, you know, there's an anime for for everything I can sprinkle a little bit of something So when I became a male model, of course, what is what is the male model? I have a I was so allowed to tell you that I mean it's it's it's particularly awesome as well because like I We obviously met you you a billion years ago
Starting point is 00:05:07 when the journey was starting, right? As from the first articles of you taking up the mantle is the Shogun of the Row. It's true. So I think the first time we started talking was probably right after I was done with football. Like I think we might have like connected on Twitter now known as X. Yes.
Starting point is 00:05:31 Yeah. It was it was when I was playing football. Yeah, exactly. So it was right around that time, you know, noise was being made of this great black otaku. And it's like, who is this, who is this person? And then and then I think we met up the convention Yeah, we I was either either packs or magfest one of the two. I think it was pack Okay, we definitely saw each other at magfest, but I think packs are the first one because that was in Boston
Starting point is 00:05:58 Yes, yes, and then I took a Nico Nico knee at at magfest So I was already Nico Nico kneeing, which is back by the way. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's so bad. We're so happy gamers. Yeah, and it was unquart. Yeah, and then from there, it was just like, all right, like get sides moving through NXT and all that stuff. And we're just like, oh, like we talked about like, you know, like you
Starting point is 00:06:23 putting together the plan to become a wrestler and to watch that happen. We get to see that full arc all the way through to this day. It's pretty sick to see that, yo, dreams accomplished and you're doing it. And you now... Yeah, we do do it. You do it, and obviously, besides accomplishing your dreams and doing all of that
Starting point is 00:06:54 and being just... I mean, this literally, this call started up with both of you guys being like, oh, hey, family man, hey, how's it going? What's up? Oh, hey, how's it going? What's up? And not oh, yeah, I'm just fulfilling thinking that we're doing with your life, Holy it's a joy every single day. Tell me, tell me about giving birth because I gave birth three times. I really enjoyed it.
Starting point is 00:07:17 Yeah, so so obviously the trajectory you're doing, you got it all lined up and things are going great and it's totally not as if you did so while being super Younger than me and everything as well. There's there's no reason to feel am I still super younger than you? No way Changes we get older will you? Charlie ties Okay, so get this get this I was I was in New York yesterday.
Starting point is 00:07:46 I had a show and a signing in Queens in Brooklyn. And I do the show in Brooklyn on Saturday night. And they put me in a match with four guys. And I go in there and I look at them and I'm like, how old are you guys? And the oldest one was 25. I'm 32 now. The oldest one was 25, the youngest, and the majority of them were 21.
Starting point is 00:08:18 I felt ancient. I felt ancient playing with children. And one of them, we were talking in the unironically said based and in wrestling nobody has said that without me or Mansor explaining to them what it actually means we are the ones we are the young ones that bring based to the wrestlers this was a child that said based to me and just assumed that I knew It blew my mind damn it was so over yeah, well, he was fun. We've known each other for a bit like the ratios have changed Like yeah, he must he was way younger than you before but now like a couple we're in her 30s
Starting point is 00:09:02 Okay, right, right, we're all in our 30s. It all gels together. I can't at the time is different. Yeah, and then, yeah, sure. The point at which you no longer care, approaches quickly, you know. When I'm 40, I'm done. I am, we're calling.
Starting point is 00:09:19 I am rapidly roaching the age in which society tells me I can stop giving a shit about anything. Hmm. I'm 37, I'm the oldest one here, and I look it, and I'm gonna use it. I'm gonna let my body tell me how I feel, and I went to stop giving a shit. Like, when I wake up and it's just like, yep, that creeks, that cranks, that's not doing what it's supposed, then that's the point where I'm like, alright. Dude, that was like six years ago.
Starting point is 00:09:46 Yes, exactly. I was icing my ankle this morning and, you know, doing some wrist rotation. So it starts. That was me, that was me in my 20s. Oh, okay. So here's my, here's my thing. Here's my thing, right?
Starting point is 00:10:04 I need to decide. And I'm going to have to decide soon What kind of old guy I'm going to be? because I can choose to be like a fit old guy, but I hate working out, but I work out all the time right Or I could just call it a day and then everybody like I could When I have grandchildren then they'll see pictures of me and they're like whoa grandpa you used to look like that so I have to decide now you know I want to decide what has better appeal right okay being a big fat old guy that is like wow
Starting point is 00:10:38 you used to be handsome so it is it is pretty cool when the old guy that is like completely a different shape of a Gendy character when you cut back to the flashback and like it's their Shaft and going crazy like for the sickest most impressive flashback you're gonna kind of want to change that form. And we live in the we live in an arrow where there are literal flashbacks like like our grandparents they don't we wouldn't see their flashbacks. You can watch my flashbacks on national TV. Yes. I mean my wife recently saw a photo of me from my sister's wedding and it's the only photo of me that I think I have of me as an adult without any of the bald and
Starting point is 00:11:27 Paige looked at it and was like, uh, weird. Like she's never seen me with the hair in the middle of my head and she was fucking weirded out. Yeah. It's like a press-upist that you cross when you become a bald man. I don't speak from personal experience. From people that I know. There is the time of hair where you're a different person. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:56 I had like chat and race. I had like respectability in an average situation. And now, especially because I'm short, so everyone looks down into the the the chrome It's like no Being bald with like a beard like I feel like makes you tough. It's mandatory. That's why yeah Nothing is just like you're an alien. Sorry. How is it is it going? How is it is it going? Yeah, no, not.
Starting point is 00:12:22 Yeah. It's all over. God, damn. Yeah, agreed. You got to have something going down at the face there. And like, I mean, well, there's a point where I think the horseshoe can get so far down that it's like, all right, just let it go. Right?
Starting point is 00:12:40 It can hit that old samurai cut length where you're like Just go clean at this point, especially if you've got it up front. That's not you know, but um Bad fuck what was I gonna say shit something about you were just talking Okay point gone. I'm sure it was really important Okay point gone. I'm sure it was really important. Fuck me. It's working and he's young. Yes, fit. Yes. I am young and fit and I've got I've got better than I've ever had. That's there you go. No, that's what I was gonna say. I remembered now It's it's the other archetype besides being the old man that then transforms in the flashback is you can become Joseph right where old man Joseph then transforms in the flashback is you can become Joseph, right?
Starting point is 00:13:25 We're old man Joseph is still fucking ripped and killing it. It looks great too. So these are both viable pathways Joseph Turns into a tiny old man. Yeah, no that's I mean you're not gonna be able to escape that out of dying early So it just makes like the inevitable decrepitness much sadder. Yeah, Hammond can hold you together. It can't hold you together forever, but though, yeah, those are the two pathways you have ahead of you and that's pretty cool. I know the fact that you get to pick one certainly is is impressive. I We all get to pick one. You just got to work hard and I don't want to Man, I'm trying I'm trying I'm trying I'm trying actively to pick one you know that I'm you
Starting point is 00:14:18 You you have lost a lot since we first met and it's and it's and it's coming back lost a lot since we first met and it's and it's and it's coming back. It's not fair. Yeah, no, no, no, even after that one trip to Texas and Florida and that that was fucking it. No, the pandemic wasn't fair. Okay, sure, sure, sure, whatever we got to tell our let me let me let me tell you a secret about being fit, right? So you look at bodybuilders and you see those guys on stage, right? Yeah. And they're completely shredded. There's they have to take steps to get to that point and they
Starting point is 00:15:03 can only do that for one day. Mm hmm. They have to take steps to get to that point and they can only do that for one day Nobody is that peak For like long So it's always it's always a freaking wave, right? but The the trick is just not falling off the way, you know what I mean? Like you can get some back. I got I got really low by accident so
Starting point is 00:15:29 When we probably first met I was probably just stopping football. I finished football. It was 325 pounds, right? Which sounds like a lot, but I didn't also have 6-8. But yeah, I was big bit, right? As I started wrestling, I started wrestling closer to like 280 and when I got fired because I wasn't traveling with Mansour anymore because Mansour eats like Taco Bell every minute and I just, I can, I can abstain when it's not right in front of me but when it's right in front of me, I'm like, okay, I'll have a chalupa but when I stopped traveling with Mansour for a bit,
Starting point is 00:16:03 it just fell off and I got to like 245 which is the lightest I've been since like the sixth grade. Mm-hmm. But now I'm back to like 260. So like you have a race. So you have to give yourself a 20-pound race. So what you're saying is get the venom injected straight into the lats and get the pain mask out and go all in. Okay. Yes, go all in.
Starting point is 00:16:31 Go all in. I mean, unless you're getting tested, which I'm not anymore. Okay. And then break that man's back and lay your hand intimidatingly on someone's shoulder. Nothing like breaking somebody's back. Man, so obviously too as well, I guess. Yeah, just, I love the fact that it's like, okay, so while doing all of that, and we're talking about you bulking up and shit, and you're like, in the meantime, here's Gibo,
Starting point is 00:17:03 V2birth, smallest cutest, she beest little thing, the complete opposite of what we're describing here in every possible way. Well, you know why I had to do that, right? Hmm. You know why I had to do that? Why? Because it's funny. Because, no.
Starting point is 00:17:23 Because I lost the rights to my face for a brief period. Oh! There was a mess. Where the people in charge, my bosses were gone. I heard you guys are making a lot of money on Twitch. I'm making like 50 bucks. I feel like, well, we want to cut. Okay.
Starting point is 00:17:50 We're going to, and so there was a two year period of them trying to figure out how to work out a deal with Twitch where they would get a cut of Twitch revenue, right? Such a fucking question. And in that time period, they said stop streaming so I was like oh and then I was like but but why it's my hobby like like could you tell me to stop playing golf like I don't I don't understand if you if people were coming up to you on the golf course and offering you opportunities they would have absolutely said to stop fucking playing. It's the classic non-compete clause except what you're competing against it starts as wrestling but then it slowly just
Starting point is 00:18:30 becomes everything in your life. Yeah, you can't compete there. So the argument they made when I was like why can't I not do my hobby? They were like well technically we have the rights to your image. And I was like oh okay then I'll just get a new image okay he replaced the whole image wholesale so jimbo was a legal legally distinct great black of taku so there you go. God. It just so happened that the two were really hot at the time and I was like, oh, that's a good idea. That kind of like was perfectly timed. Just create a legitimate and nice legal out for everyone trapped in that stupid situation. Absolutely. God damn. Okay.
Starting point is 00:19:29 They figured it out since, but it was funny. I got a good beach and bird. Yeah. Well, yeah, okay. So I mean, you bet that is, and I guess like now, that all doesn't upstill apply, right? And whatnot. No, but like it's a good mascot, I guess like now that all doesn't still apply right and whatnot No, but like it's a good mascot. I guess yeah, the thing is I've been so many things in the past 10 years Where I've got so many names and so many things where I'm trying to After I got released it became, okay, how do I make sure everybody knows that I am all these people? Because like obviously the die-hards, they know who I am everywhere I am. But I need to incorporate all of these aspects of myself into one superbie. Yeah, I'm looking at your Twitter page right now,
Starting point is 00:20:25 like you're fighting the character limit on description. Yeah, yeah, no, exactly. So the Nico Nico Niping, right? Always blew my mind because I was like, OK, nobody cares about love life anymore. It's been 50 years. Nobody cares about love life anymore. But every been it's been 50 years. It cares about love life anymore. But every year the original clip of me on the ND's doing the Nico Nico Knee goes like viral with like
Starting point is 00:20:52 a hundred thousand tweaks and I was like well I need people to know that that was me. Right. So right. That's that's why I have a thousand t-shirts. I have a Nico Nico Knee t-shirt. I have a Nico Nico Nico T-shirt. I have a Gimp Mace T-shirt with the mask. I have a model Mace T-shirt. I can give you whatever you want, whatever you want from me. I'll do it. Someone used the word bread inverse. It's all part of the bread inverse.
Starting point is 00:21:16 Yeah, the bread inverse. It's in the bread inverse. Nice. Which is why my name is Mason Madden now. Because I was like, okay, well, the two biggest names that I went by in WWE were Mace. Right. Mace and is legally distinct in just an A. And D.O. Madden. And D.O. Madden.
Starting point is 00:21:34 Yeah. So it's Mason D. Madden. And then also I don't have to get, I had a really cool cyberpunk jacket that I got made like ages ago. And I never got to wear. And it says D. says deal on the back and I was blessed by the spirits above that Cyberpunk did a complete 180 because when I got it cycrapon sucked dude. It's the best ongoing game Now it's awesome. Yeah, on going so yeah
Starting point is 00:22:03 Awesome on going so yeah I'm going wild because I was like okay, it's not a no, it's not but it's not we fixed it Yeah, you could slide it right into that category. What a you what a useful Desigater I feel like it winning that award is the the the codification and like set in stone of like yes The original release was a beta. It was a early access beta. And now it is out. I swear people like, like Baldur's Gate and I guess Cypherpone,
Starting point is 00:22:38 Baldur's Gate did it on purpose. Yeah. But there is such a good, there is such a good case for just doing an Alpha for a couple years Mm-hmm, and then we're releasing the game or because if cyberpunk, if cyberpunk would have said oh, this is an alpha Or I would have been and then it would have been very different And and also like when you're that at a certain scale of
Starting point is 00:23:02 Game to just benefiting from early access in the way that Baldur's Gate did, right? Like not everything can use it to that degree, but like when it's that big, when you can't possibly cover all the weird shit that's going to happen, you kind of want people to like touch it a little bit earlier and go through permutations. There was a lot going on with, I don't know how much you guys played the early access version of Baldur's Gate, but the thing that was very impressive about that is that they were willing to change like, really core elements of the way everything in the game worked.
Starting point is 00:23:34 Like, in the initial version, like every, like, cantrip that threw down fire or ice would put down like a big fire or ice surface. And well, yeah, because cause you know, like divinity and like player feedback was like unanimous of this sucks. Take that out, I hate it. And then they took all of it out. And it was supposed to be like the building blocks
Starting point is 00:23:56 of like a whole interaction system, but it was hateful. So buy it's gone. That's kind of this kind of how they approach the development has been even since. Like they update the game almost every other week and it's like, oh yeah, people didn't like this. We fixed it.
Starting point is 00:24:12 It's kind of wild. Does that make boulders get an ongoing game? I don't know, but I think the weirdest part is like, you guys are kind of disappointed with the ending, right? Okay, here's a new ending. And you didn't have to write a letter and you didn't have to have a massive campaign like for fallout and fucking mass effect. We just got everyone back in the studio within like two weeks and started
Starting point is 00:24:35 re-recording new lines. I look forward to this year's inclusion of multiversists in the best ongoing game category. Bro, they took that game away! It were it launched completely and then it unlaunched and now it's gonna re-launch again. And that's ongoing, really. That is really, think about it. I forgot about that. Yeah, yeah, just a little...
Starting point is 00:25:01 It's ongoing as long as it's still getting support, right? I mean, it's like a little it's it's ongoing as long as it's still getting support right I mean it's it's like you can you can unannounced and I've said you can delay things but like to unrelease Unreleases wild you know, yeah You take it back you're literally putting the genie back like the last was it the last day that we were fucking making fun of like a couple weeks ago That game that only came out for one day. Yeah. Before getting outed as a scam and then unreleasing. Right, right, right. Yeah. Um, oh, let me, let me just put a little title up there. Uh, so, uh, yeah,
Starting point is 00:25:38 Brennan, what have you been, what have you been playing? What you been up to? Man, I have a lot of hours and balloulders. Yeah, that's been my that's been my home game So I got I got a steam deck and when I'm traveling I play on the steam deck and but I just started traveling again I played boulders great on the steam deck too a lot because it's a good excuse to play on the toilet. Mm-hmm, but Yeah, I think I think I have like two like 50 and Baldur's Gate, like an unhealthy amount of hours. I just beat it on Honor Mode last week. Which, on Honor Mode is, is that the no-saving permadeath?
Starting point is 00:26:22 That's the, that's the single saveath? That's the double hard mode. That's a single save. Iron man. Oh god. God damn. Amish. Which I'm not a completionist in any facet. Right? You're in there. But I was like, when they offered Golden Dice as a reward,
Starting point is 00:26:41 I was like, I need them. God damn. OK. Did you encounter at any point the fucking platform bug reward. That's like I need them. God damn. Okay. Did you encounter at any point the fucking platform bug that came in on the last one, on the last patch? Was it the one at the end of the game? So that no, it's the one. It only happens in the fucking ferry to the monastery and Sharers gauntlet, you know where you get the whole party on those moving platforms, is for some reason currently, the player, characters' feet don't stick to the platform,
Starting point is 00:27:12 so the platform just moves out and you all just fall to your deaths and it's killed a ton of people's honor mode saves. It didn't happen to me, but I was always very paranoid of something killing us all because I didn't know what they added for honor mode. So I was always very paranoid of something killing us all because I didn't know what they added for honor mode. So I was always really paranoid and I'd always send a scout out.
Starting point is 00:27:30 Yeah. Like I'd always leave half the party behind and then I'd send my rogue out to go see what's going on to make sure that nothing was gonna drop or nothing was gonna glitch. I saw a lot of teleporting around. I saw a lot of people playing in very strange and unnatural ways to get around the
Starting point is 00:27:49 save limit in particular. I saw, hey, here's a tip. Play the entire game with only three characters and just leave one of them back at camp so that if the worst happens, you can, you talk to withers and just resurrect everybody. So I, oh, I didn't know you could do that. Yeah, it doesn't it doesn't work in the last dungeon and it doesn't work in the colony because you know it's got the red the anti camp field or whatever the hell it is but everywhere else it's like yeah if you've min-maxed the three of them as hard as you want you
Starting point is 00:28:20 just do yeah yeah you can I just keep one guy back at base just in case I was gonna ask like when you do something like honor mode in a game like this like how much does Moment to moment kind of become Like like how much you have to do that's just so much cautious work in case something bad happens as opposed to just being able to play it Normally it becomes a lot of like Prepreparation like I've beaten the game enough times that I know how the fights work able to play it normally. It becomes a lot of like pre preparation. Like I've beaten the game enough times that I know how the fights work. And I guess I know like, okay, this guy's
Starting point is 00:28:54 going to pop out over here. If I kill these guys, then these guys won't spawn or something like that. So it becomes a lot more like, I'm just going to start combat. Like I started every combat with an invisible Methods. Yeah, like you do that and then you get you get a surprise round and you get everybody gets a turn before they even get a turn and You always split up the group and position them all over the place so you can't get fireballed and stuff like that It just it makes you it makes you like a
Starting point is 00:29:26 Conspiracy theorist. The one that comes to mind, so I haven't been playing on our mode. I'm actually going back again just for the second run. And the one that pops into my mind is the one that everyone does on their second attempt is do you want to fight the Necromancer in the boss fight that the game prescribes to you normally or do you want to jump in that fucking office Jumping in his office where there's like half the enemies and it's really small You know what I did I Which which is what I love about the game is I went into his office I cast
Starting point is 00:30:01 Arcane lock on the door. Oh, yeah, because he's got skeletons on the outside. Not anymore. Lock the Door. Yeah, not anymore. And then I set up everybody in the room. And I mean, between an assassin, if you have an assassin gloom stalker or something. And among, you can get them in one turn. Oh yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:22 You can get them easy in one turn. And then when I did it in honor His his brother got confused because I got I kind of I killed him I killed the Necromancer and then you know He's got that big hulking. Yeah, he's got flesh Yeah, I ran away because I was not in a good space to fight him Mm-hmm. That's what it becomes it becomes a lot of of like, oh, I'm not going to win time to leave. You're okay. Okay. So I ran away.
Starting point is 00:30:48 And then when I came back, they forgot. Oh, that's, oh, well, that's just free. Yeah, which meant that I could use as Bell later on, which was cool. So you can kind of fuck with the aggro system, a bunch and yeah, okay, okay, he's crawl your way through. Yes, the bells still worked. Are you serious? The bells still worked because the, because flesh was still alive. I've done this shit. Yeah, he's an idiot. Well, he's dead, so.
Starting point is 00:31:15 Yeah, and this is, that's also like if you fuck up, it lets you continue your save out of honor mode, right? Like is one of the things. Yes, but you don't think your fancy gold dice, man. Right, right, right. And it's meaningless. You might as well quit. No honor mode. The first couple of times, the first couple of times I died early, like it was, it was all act one deaths.
Starting point is 00:31:37 Apparently that that fight with the, the, the, the elective hours in the crash ship, like the very first fight after regaining control is apparently like end-rooting for a lot of people. Oh yeah. Because like your D&D build doesn't come online until like five level five. Four maybe. Yeah. And especially like the really broken ones is more like if you went on multi-class It's more like six or seven. Yeah, the bill I'm playing now is it only came online at like level fucking 10 can you what are you? I'm doing a Warlock bar and I'm using the potent robe to just stack up charisma on the eldritch bless
Starting point is 00:32:25 and robe to just stack up charisma on the eldritches bless. Can you start on our mode and basically do everything as cautiously and properly as possible, but you just get fucked on dice rolls, and that's it, that's all she wrote. Yeah. You can get bad rolls, miss a whole lot. It feels kind of get screwed. Because so far for me again, still beginning, but it feels as if like there's a decent amount of like
Starting point is 00:32:50 Protection against that with re-roll attempts or things like that not not to I mean also reloading and out in skate safes coming Which is taken out of this equation, but like are there things about like that that are also more strict on You know your roles and roles and I guess luck. I mean, shit, I saw. So sorry, after you, Brenna. Oh, no, I was just gonna say, you end up, for Honor Mode, I had like three or four broken builds,
Starting point is 00:33:17 like four of the meta I was playing, like totally meta, where everything has advantage on everything. There's also a lot of jumping or like I jumped in after one. I went to the under dark and did stuff just to get experience. Yeah, like I was jumping around to try and get experience. Experience right? Yes.
Starting point is 00:33:37 Yeah. Experience. Yeah. Um, in, uh, act two, there's three bosses that you can beat. You should be talking to him. You should just, there's three bosses that you can beat. You should just kill yourself. There's four, man. You should kill yourself.
Starting point is 00:33:49 There's a surgeon, there's toll keeper. There's barkeeper. And the toll keeper. And Catherine. Yeah, and I thought it didn't work. And then I did it. I'm like, oh, yeah, no, it didn't work and then I did it and like oh yeah, no it did work. Yeah hell yeah Just kill yourself
Starting point is 00:34:14 But yeah, so will you what you were asking? It's like I mean you you fought Ethel right? Yeah, I don't think so. Oh well, okay,... uh... saw people fighting the hagg on on our mode and they're like well failed every a whole person check and uh... my whole fucking party is just immobilized and i'm now just watching the boss take turns on me and kill me and i have no option and i'm done and that was hard and on an onarmode,
Starting point is 00:34:45 because if you cast a spell on Ethel, she multiplies I think in onarmode. Oh, fuck that. That's the legendary mechanic. Oh, fuck so. So if you use like anything, because one, she's got really high AC. So if you use like fairy fire or anything,
Starting point is 00:35:02 I think light makes her multiply too. Like if you try and cast light, because it's a really dark room that makes her AC higher. So in every time she multiplies they all hold person. So that's where for me the hardest fights in our mode were Ethel and I was overleveled for Ethel. Ethel was bad, Catholic, Slash, Skeleton, what's his name? Oh yeah, got it, yeah, the Bossal. The act II boss was very hard for me and then it kind of gets, act III was kind of easy. Well, because you have everything you would ever need or want. Yeah, because it just became about getting to level 12.
Starting point is 00:35:55 So I'm looking at the ground and I'm seeing that it's not as scorched as it could be. Let's go best boy and best girl. Let's let's what it is. Yeah, let's let's get some takes. Oh, man, dude. For the guys, you had like, like, like, Will's really nice, but like, if you want your damage, you have two different types of damage, and you want like absolute toxic piece of shit, or Astaria.
Starting point is 00:36:22 Because like, Gale, Gale is the most toxic man I have ever seen in anything because he's telling you he's a nice guy and then you'd like try to dump him he'll be like why don't I just fucking kill myself. You see so that's it. I don't even so that. I don't even, I haven't even seen that part of it but the cut of his fucking jib is absolutely just like, oh right, I can feel that energy. To be fair, in this scenario, imagine you're dating a girl,
Starting point is 00:36:51 right? You're dating a girl. And her ex was Jesus Christ. Yeah, right, right, right, right, right, right, right. How could you possibly? He still worships the cross. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. He still worships God.
Starting point is 00:37:04 Yeah, he still worships God. He's so worship God. Yeah, he's so worship God. But he also dated her. Man. So it's kind of difficult to know. It's not your fault. It's just he's got that holy trinity D, you know? Like, Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:18 And also like he just kind of groomed a little bit. Like, there's a little sus. Oh, yeah, you got to dig, because he never says it out loud, but then you go into D&D backstory, and you're like, yeah, Mr. just kidnaps 12 year old boys from her country. Yeah, yeah, she's like,
Starting point is 00:37:33 oh yeah, yeah. Cause they're prodigies, man. Yeah, fuck them later, but just cause the magic. Cause yeah, on introduction, he brings her up, but the, I guess the importance and relevance of what that what that means So it probably comes later. Oh man dude get like Gail has everything about him is funny my wife and I laugh at Gail every single day Like discovering that if you play as Gail and you talk to his trussum She will shit all over his beard because it's a divorced depression beard.
Starting point is 00:38:08 Like he normally cleans shaven. Interesting. And she's like, cut that fucking shit off your face, it's terrible. You look like a goof. That's it. But to me says his hair isn't even probably usually long. Yeah, he probably was pretty clean.
Starting point is 00:38:22 So he's like, he has vibes that are, yeah, pretty straight like, yeah, he's that he has vibes that are so pretty straight like Yeah, he's supposed to look so that he's yeah, he's he's supposed to look much more like like perfect and like just magical Foppish like you know Hero energy and all that came up out as is a depression thing. That's great I I mean Okay, but but like what are you the best girl? What are your picks? Yes? The best girl is not who anybody's arguing the best girl is
Starting point is 00:38:52 It's a woman who's had multiple husbands Several children. Mm-hmm. It's Jihiro. Yeah, Jihiro is the best girl. They They would then receive an interview. They were like, there was a Jihara romance planned, but it got cut for time. So it's kind of, it's tough. Well, it's, so that would have been a really interesting romance route, right? Because Jihara was in Baldur's Day.
Starting point is 00:39:20 One and two. You have two and one and two, right? Yeah, one and two. That's why when you talk to her and you're like, I heard all sorts of stories and she's like, yeah, some of those stories even have me doing the gods because she was a romance option in those games as well. Okay, returning character. Cool. And so Jihira has, she's an elf, so she's long lived and she has two husbands, both have died. lived and she has two husbands both have died and I believe the plot was it the plot of Baldur's Gate 2 is that one of her children is a ball spawn?
Starting point is 00:39:52 That was not in two. Where was it? No, in one and two she didn't have any kids. Well, whatever it happens, one of her kids is a ball squad, which is why if you play as Darker, she's like very much like she, she sits in your, uh, in your bunk and watches you sleep because she's like, I don't hate you because I had one of you. Why?
Starting point is 00:40:18 I'll kill you if I need to. Uh, and I'm seeing, I'm seeing a half-elf and I'm seeing gilth fly up up so we're talking about a half-gilf then. Yeah, half-gilf character. Okay. Yes. Got it. Well, she's full gilf. She's all full. Okay. If you want the real answer to the best best girl thing It's individual and that's a total cop out But it's like what kind of damage do you want do you want a girl that has all sorts of cultural problems and cultural trauma? Do you want a girl that has religious trauma or do you want a girl that has medical trauma? Yeah
Starting point is 00:41:01 Pick a fucking poison medical trauma, please I love I love how rich yeah She doesn't so I like her so much more as I Friend zone car like yeah me too. It's fun because I like I like that. She still loves you Like she says she'll still say, I love you. And you mean the world to me as your friend, which I think is really cool. Interesting.
Starting point is 00:41:31 It's a really unique character dynamic. We're like, she always, even if you're just like, if your buddies, she's like, hey, you mean the world to me, I love you, you're the best. She's really good. Yeah, no. Pat, where's the cowardice in getting your dick burnt off, man? You got to get a you got to get her fix.
Starting point is 00:41:51 You got a toast to mix for. Oh shit. Yeah. Yeah. I, I still think one of my favorite interactions in the entire game is if you have tried to romance somebody else and you walk up to Lasal and like, hey girl, and she's like, get away from me, you're dick. Yeah, she's like, you're already dirty. Oh my gosh.
Starting point is 00:42:14 You're disgusting. It's like, oh jeez. And then she's like, you could have had me. I would have devoured you, but if you did it, you didn't. Oh, now you're on this. Wow, Jesus, okay. And not just because you're on the Wow Jesus, okay And not just because you're not the same race either
Starting point is 00:42:30 No, no, no, no Racist one is shark shark's the racist one well She she's like she's like get the acu Supremacist is pack yeah like that's getting in Thara on the team. Okay, and she's like a full-on I like that's getting menthara on the team. Okay. And she's like a full on supremacist. I see. So if you are, if you're a half-drow,
Starting point is 00:42:49 oh man, she fucking hates it. And you talk to, if you talk to menthara, she'd be like, eh, she's like, she's like disgusted by you. She's like, oh, you're so close to being perfect. She'd rather you be a full something else that I have drove. She's nuts. Like her romance path involves like a line of dialogue of like, hey, no, I already have somebody.
Starting point is 00:43:16 And she's like, well, now you can have me now. And like, she's got to mitigate her attempting to murder that person. Oh, and she was supposed to get pregnant Mm-hmm. So which which man pack and relate to that's the thing that we've done. We've gotten pregnant. Yeah, yeah There you go. No, you're back in the day. You could have gotten aries baby in the inventory I had that damn item. It's so weird. That's like a longstanding thing that the Walters gate three missed out on of having the baby in your inventory You know what you do you do keep the baby in your inventory. It's just an egg this time just a pocket child. Okay And you can have you can carry bodies. Yeah, yeah
Starting point is 00:44:00 Yeah, the bregy picked up a child's corpse and was walking around with it for an uncomfortably long amount of time. There are some in act one when you're in the goblin cap, right? And you're freeing house in. You have to kill two goblin children. Mandatory and he tries to get the first two. Yes, and I thought it was so weird because in any other scenario the children run away and they are intangible But these two If you let them go they will call everybody else
Starting point is 00:44:35 So you have two turns to murder these children with five HP so it's better just try to get away It's so interesting when a game like doesn't shy away from that because I feel like I've been conditioned by so many games that like are like, yeah, kids are gonna be no hitbox, no collision. They're just a part of the world and let's not even go down that road. And if they are involved, it's gonna be like Metal Gear Solid 5
Starting point is 00:44:58 where it's like, okay, like put them to sleep and like, but don't, you can't interact with them and beat them up like you can in normal soldier, you know. But if they're complex. But here, or no, because we walked down to the water and we saw one of those kids won't getting pulled towards the heart beat. Oh yeah, Murkahn's with the heart beat. Right.
Starting point is 00:45:16 And you're like, oh shit. Like that kid just can get got completely. And like it's, it's particularly like, oh fuck, this game's not fucking around. Like anybody can get it's it's particularly like oh fuck this game's not fucking around like anybody can get it It's funny. Even they even do the job of like having you run into kid goblin kids before going in there and Like they're kicking a corpse for fun and Like the the games like no listen goblins come out the womb evil. Yeah, they're evil
Starting point is 00:45:43 Listen goblins come out the womb evil. Yeah, sure Evil there are evil right don't feel bad. You walk up to Kuno and Kuno S sure sure No, it's funny that with your your your logic on on carlac theirs. It kind of reminds me I've brought up I had a similar vibe with Mitsuru in P3 in Persona 3. Oh, yeah, it's way cooler when, yeah, well, one, you save it for your boy. Akihiko, I felt like the two, that's Akihiko's. Exactly, I felt like the two seniors, the two Senpai.
Starting point is 00:46:18 Never end up together, you made it up in your mind. No, no, true, it's... Thank you, thank you very much. I had that vibe as well. And so that's why I've had that that's exactly I'm feeling there. In a way, it's selfish to take it. Even if they don't end up together, they should. And if I take away that possibility that I'm a bad friend to the hockey team, she is. I'm a bad little bro. She is great, but like that is exactly the vibe 100% I'm like, no that let that let that be its thing over there Those two you know That's a great item. I completely agree which which for some of three I think does like the best job of
Starting point is 00:46:57 Like after persona three you become a little bit it becomes a little bit wish fulfillment Where everybody loves you and is perfect for you I love you, Karri, it doesn't, does not like you So after p3 like the like the fucking mentality starts to like seep in of like people exist for your personal gratification, Joker. Like that's why they're here. They're here so you can get them pregnant. Go run through run through the entire class.
Starting point is 00:47:32 Sure. And then Valentine's Day will happen. You're right. Which is why I would like. Yeah. Which is why I would I would like for I would like a I would like and the next persona game to kind of like play with the fact that... Metaphor? In a way, in a, yeah, metaphor even, in a way to get every social link, to do every confidant, right? You have to be a different person for everyone. You're in it's the persona thing where you're wearing a mask.
Starting point is 00:48:03 You're literally wearing the mask of whatever the archetype The person that you're dealing with because you want to max out your interaction with them That's sociopath Yeah, and in pete I feel like the moment that we turned away from that forever in that series is when they said you know what? Getting social links reversed because you were a massive asshole or you were cheating on your girlfriend, let's do away with that.
Starting point is 00:48:28 That's annoying. And it's like, no, that is important. You should be able to cheat on your girlfriend. So this is also like a kind of a structural issue because when relationships are decided by a multiple choice question, there's always a right answer, right? There's always an optimized path here
Starting point is 00:48:44 versus like real conversations where it can go in any direction and then whatever you particularly click with will be chemistry. And I guess, I guess like thematically, the answer should be you don't get to be friends with everyone. Nobody is friends with everyone. But I think- So just answer truthfully. But I also think that like the entire inception of like the visual novel is so that we can defeat these real life contrivances to have everything and get the
Starting point is 00:49:13 Haram and then if I want it, God damn it, I bought my video game. The fantasy is like listen, if you did, you know how you go back in your life and you look over your regrets and that person you should have asked out and that that job interview you did wrong, listen. There was and that person you should have asked out in that job interview, you did wrong. Listen. There was a right answer. You just didn't think of it at the time. But if you had thought you could go back and do it different, everything. If you could go back to the same before that, before those test questions.
Starting point is 00:49:42 Every single thing in your life would have turned out peachy and it would have been like this. And then you can use those relationships as power to beat God. Of course, how you do. Now that being said, like your ability to actually raise or not impacting your RPG relationships is hilarious and I would love to see this world.
Starting point is 00:50:04 Yes. Yeah, I would bankroll that immediately. Yeah, and this is, I guess, a bit late. It was going to come up later, but one of the things was they released the P3 Reload trailer, but since we're talking about it now. Oh my God. The intros are pretty sick. And I'm remembering that you described the new mass destruction as ballless.
Starting point is 00:50:35 Yeah. It's lacking in nuts. You know what I mean? It doesn't hit the same. I'm not, and I'm very excited for this game. It comes out on my friggin' like the day before my birthday. Hell yeah, oh sick. Everything is like perfect, but I don't know,
Starting point is 00:50:58 like when you remaster stuff, you lose a certain amount of the crunchiness. There's always some detail that they go, we're gonna improve it. And you're like, could you not? Could you actually leave it? Yeah. So here's an example. I had in my youth, I used to frequent some of the musical piracy sites.
Starting point is 00:51:24 Fuck off, no way. Yeah, don't arrest me. I've repented a paid for all of the music that I've stole. That's crazy. I don't arrest me. But. To admit that we're certain. When you get something on, you know, limewire or whatever,
Starting point is 00:51:44 sometimes there was a version of the song that either had like a skip, because it was just uploaded with a skip, or there was like a radio, there was an autotata, an autotata song that had like a radio add at the end of it. And I have it now and it doesn't hit the same because it does not have the radio voice at the end of it. And I have it now and it doesn't hit the same because it does not have the radio voice at the end. You know, sure. No, listening to, listening to rips, listening to rips of the soul caliber theme song back in the day and hearing the character select cursor moving around. Yeah, the tech and five sparkling without the, I don't like listening to it without the sound effect.
Starting point is 00:52:25 Yeah. And we can like roll it all the way back to Persona 3 in which we're, I'm gonna get to the end of the game and I'm gonna see here the remix of that incredible, incredible final boss theme. And I'm gonna start to hear it and then I'm gonna go, what, where's the fucking Quad City DJs? Fuck. Yeah, I was like, oh, like I heard that song since,
Starting point is 00:52:47 and it's not the space jam remix, and I don't get a set I could confuse. But it's just like I really hope. That's my main thing. And we touched on this a couple of times in previous episodes, but the hope is that like, the finale of that game has to be preserved man like is that's the strongest part of it and the temptation to
Starting point is 00:53:10 fuck with it to like you know make it more usable to keep the you know the everything as a franchise that could keep going in a way. It's exactly right. So all the point of the game is that and exactly and it's going to make you feel that and it makes that point so well. So the hope is that I know they can't resist the urge to like add more and like refine it's a remake you know etc. It's a reload. But I hope they just give, they, I hope they don't change the events, but if they want to put more, they just have more scenes to expand on conversations and context if you want to. But don't. So what I've seen is really cool is, um, they're, uh, in person, three, you don't have the same kind of social links with the boys right? No, in fact it's weird
Starting point is 00:54:06 it's like almost like the team is is almost absent from from your S lines from what I've heard in the in the reload is they've got like calendar specific moments where it's like boy time. Yeah, you're gonna hang out with ackeico and I think you're gonna hang out with the boys. It's stuff like that, which I think is really, which is really cool. It doesn't need to be social like stuff. I just want to see group dynamics, the last hanging out. Right, right, right, right. I think Jinpei's character in the original release was like sincerely damaged by the fact that the only times you could hang out with him is when he was being a massive asshole.
Starting point is 00:54:50 Like, like, the only time you actually hang out with him is like on a mission where he's like undermining your authority and being a in charge. Is that, can I not just hang out with him and watch fucking baseball or something? Like, yeah. Yeah, let him talk about what baseball is important to him and why his knee hurts. Um, and the thing is, the thing is, every time I think of, like, Junpei being annoying, it's also sandwiched with, like, you turn around and Yukari is also being annoying. Oh, she's terrible.
Starting point is 00:55:21 And you're just like, Oh, my God, this fucking sandwich of awful awful get it away from me. You're only Really says a lot about the the direction that those games went in I mean we talked about the S-links Mm-hmm, right, but like the the party that you start to get in in P3 like the party that you start to get in in P3 starts in either active dislike of you or total indifference like junepe and and uh uh fucking you carry are just shitheads and then acquico and it's you are like whatever you're a year younger than i don't give a lot of talk to you to fuck you right and then and then you move on to four where like, Yosuke was originally planned to suck your dick.
Starting point is 00:56:10 He was gonna be a game. Yeah. Exactly. The thing is, of course, though, that I feel like in four and beyond, you don't have that moment you get in three where the game puts you on a fucking escalator like and pushes you towards you, Carrie, on the fucking beach and is like, eh?
Starting point is 00:56:30 She's got a heart on her neck! And you have to like, the lovers, the lover. You have to run from that fucking ship. You know? It's pushing so hard to get it. Ah. Yeah. Yeah. Anyway, I hope we at least get like the arena costumes
Starting point is 00:56:51 is something as things they can put on. Oh, I'm sure you will get every costume. It's exhausted. Yeah, absolutely. I don't think we even talked about it at some point when it got announced, but it's nice that like, person on a three such a weird game
Starting point is 00:57:05 because it's like this seminal work in this style, but every time somebody's like, oh man, should I check out Persona 3 and you go absolutely, and they go, okay, which version do I get? And then you go, ah, yeah, I had this with Punch Bomb, because it was like, okay, so you can play the portable one, which lets you do Femsy. Yeah, you're not gonna get that and you're not gonna get the same walking
Starting point is 00:57:30 around, but then you get the boy links if you want them. Fuck. I don't think they're doing any fest. No, no, the answer is the answer. The answer can stay unanswered forever. That's fine. We don't need to, yeah. And the thing is, is I think, I basically, when we talked about it, it sounded like,
Starting point is 00:57:53 like even though Fess had a bunch more cool shit, she was more interested in like being able to play as Femc and like have those relationships. Oh, yeah, because Femc is like hilarious. The thing is, the thing is, is you don't actually want to play the answer. No, you just want to find out what happened. Right. The answer is not fun to play. No, it's actively unfundable. It is long and it is a slog. I can't believe that the audacity to remove the compendium, the answer. Get out. And then that is just sucks, but anyway, like, you just started something. Yeah. She looks cool.
Starting point is 00:58:31 I mean, look, they tried it again with laborists and it did the duover is better. But anyway, the other thing too. Look how cool she looks though. It's like, I guess, but Eve. The other thing too look how cool she looks Her designs are his incredible he had the figma ready to go. Okay The The the other thing to was I've always so I've always made fun of and laughed at the Iwatodai dorm theme because it was like your jamming it's fucking going the thorns are blasting and everything's great and then like I thought Lotus Juice jumps in and ruins it right and it wasn't Lotus Juice
Starting point is 00:59:20 it was a sample of rock your body body and it was just often I Fuck I always hated that that part of it and Holy I agree with this guy you're you're super wrong. It's the wild tonal dissonance is amazing And it wasn't on beat even it was like But it wasn't on beat even it was like Who cares? It was just, that's the crunchy, that's the balls rolling That's the balls It's so off beat it was a fucking Fuck you guys don't know they don't know what they're doing
Starting point is 00:59:51 You got, you know, and I was like So okay like um, it's like there's a moment where Is it, I think it's like Chuck Berry and the Beatles Or are jamming Oh fuck New will not use this fucking sample. You asshole, don't you dare compare that fucking music sample in the Iwo Todai dorm. No co-ono just. Oh, it's Chuck Berry.
Starting point is 01:00:19 Oh, oh, it's Chuck Berry. So full of shit. Rugs it. Oh RUGS IT Right it felt it felt like me It felt like me Megas was jamming and everyone's doing it and then suddenly yoko fucking walks out and goes AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH No problem. Dude, it's kind of sound dude. I listen to it and it doesn't have the same fucking punch. Like he's not mixed as loud. He's like a bad rapper.
Starting point is 01:01:14 It's fixed. It's fixed. You're fucking so wrong. He jumps in and he goes like so dance. And he's doing it on the god damn beat. And I like thank you. Thank you. We hate rhythm.
Starting point is 01:01:27 We hate rhythm. Really? The original was fucking experimental. And God just went there for it. The original was death grips. And you're just not a trained ear. You can't appreciate art. It's supposed to be the lack of comfort and unfamiliarity in a new space.
Starting point is 01:01:47 Okay, it's completely unrelated. I love explaining bad things as art. Oh yeah, oh, it's just I love the I love the dragonguard is bad on purpose. It's part of the story that killing killing is wrong and it shouldn't be fun It shouldn't have fun killing us and pointless and makes you wonder what you're even doing We brought this up we brought this up last week about the overworld and no more heroes, right? It's so exactly no it's it's meant to be off Come on. Yeah. Fucking Yoko. All right.
Starting point is 01:02:26 Anyway, but, um, no, the, the, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, that is a hilarious like I was wrong and then reality has changed. And now it is actually Lotus Juice. Yeah. I didn't know that it wasn't Lotus Juice. I also didn't know that it wasn't Lotus Juice, but we were informed live that it was a fucking sample. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:49 It was probably a sample of some 80s rapper. Yeah, because you would assume that like the rapper on the rest of the tracks would, you know, that would be the thing, but as it turns out. Well, I mean, it doesn't even sound like him, right? It was like a black... Chopped and screwed. Sounds like an actual black night. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:07 Bond. Bond. Alright. Anyway. Um, will I ever be able to find the sample? I don't think so. Um, he's never going to say, fill your body with the burning. Listen, actually, actually, if I'm, I bet you it is out there because they found like the original Jetset radio list of samples they all came from like one catalog and Then there was like a whole Twitter thread where they realized oh my god this one catalog is As actually in a ton of other games I found it including yeah including like CVS and a bunch of other so there's a whole there's a catalog
Starting point is 01:03:40 That gets used for a lot of Japanese video games and I would not be surprised if that was totally out there on this is a series of samples From the best service Hallelujah sample library. Okay. I think that might even be the one that I'm describing I think because it like yeah, I want to say I'm just gonna send it to you so you can listen to it as much as you want Well, it's it's everywhere. Rapping was very rare in Japan at the time. So you had to you had to go to a secret dealer. That's what like the the knuckles rap songs for the Sonic adventure. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:04:16 Like the guy like they were just like, Hey, we don't have any words, but you can rap. Right? And he was like, yeah, I joked about it being experimental, but for like atless making SMT games to come on, like our next game's gonna be in RPG about high school kids and it's gonna be him up. Like what? Really? It is.
Starting point is 01:04:40 Imagine somebody taking that kind of turn now and like from the franchise. In Capcom versus S&K1, like there's a point where they're just putting a track together. And it's the, I think it's the Metro City Stays or so. They just needed something that sounded street and urban and hip hop. And so they just grabbed shit from that same sample collection.
Starting point is 01:05:01 I think from the Hallelujah list. And they grabbed the verse of just a dude Coming and go and mr. Northern exposure. I thought I'd I told you and he goes and goes and goes and at the end of it He just dropped like straight up is like I'm ready to fucking spill and I'm like that's like in the Japanese version They're just like oh, yeah, they don't know what it means. So it's fine They drop it in there and then that turns into an instrumental in the US one because obviously Like this is yeah, the the ESRB is gonna break the game differently as a result but like this is full on cussing in a Japanese version of CVS it doesn't matter
Starting point is 01:05:39 um... okay uh... yeah I guess anything else besides a boulders of note that you've been checking out or want to touch on? On the plane. Okay, so I was on the plane yesterday, right? And I watch, I catch up on my anime on the plane. And I'm watching Fearon, which is the Ferrin journey's end. It's about an elf girl, right? People are digging. It's really good. I recommend it if you haven't seen it check it out But I'm watching that I finish it and I look to my right and there's this lady
Starting point is 01:06:18 Yeah, her name and she's watching anime. Yeah, mm-hmm. She's watching it. So I'm like Okay, I've got a fellow cultured person next to me. So but but then in my head in the back of my head because I had I had Goblin Slayer season two cute up right on my thing right and I'm sitting there and then I get self-conscious because I was like, then she might actually know what I'm watching. I don't know what somebody to see me watching Goblin's like. Oh yeah, I'm watching that. She's the next to the whole of the... ...of the...
Starting point is 01:06:52 ...of the... ...of the... ...of the... It was cool. I was like, yeah, I'm fine with people seeing me. Fearon is good culture. That's fine. Spectable. But it was like, if I watch Goblins, like... I don't know what...
Starting point is 01:07:03 ...that's gonna show on. I think it might be another Goblin gang watch Goblin's like I don't know what that's gonna show on that I think might be another goblin gang make like I don't literally that character that looks like the main one from this show Might show up over here in a significantly different context Damn it I pull up my steam deck because I'm like okay I'm not gonna watch that right now and I've had a umi net go on my steam deck to play. Okay. And everybody's been putting it, I haven't played it yet.
Starting point is 01:07:30 Oh, I played it yesterday for the first time. Everybody's putting it over to me and they're saying, how great it is. And then I started playing. Oh no, this one did, no. Did they recognize this shit? Did they cry, Brennan? Did they?
Starting point is 01:07:43 I haven't gotten to the crying yet, but what I did get to was a lot of threatening to squeeze your cousins' titties. And when I realized that, I was like, I don't want somebody who watches anime to see me cry. So I put on my... I put, I've got these glasses. I've got these glasses. I'm like a cyberpunk on the plate.
Starting point is 01:08:07 I've got these glasses that I can plug into my steam deck and then it projects the screen onto the glasses but nobody can see what's on my steam deck. Oh, that sounds cool. Oh, interesting, okay. Yes, it's very cool. But like as soon as I realized that that's what I was playing, I was like, okay, time to go into the matrix.
Starting point is 01:08:23 She will not know what I'm doing. I mean, the- But, all that to say, I'm playing with my neck on now. And I haven't gotten to the good part, but I'm excited to get to the good part. So I think the answer there is to like when you're sitting next to someone and the power level is somewhat available, there's a chance that they might know too much
Starting point is 01:08:43 about what you're doing. That's when you just flip back and go to Jumanji, right? Just, you completely undo it. It's time to cut off all I do is I'm not here to talk. Damn. No, but check out, Fierran is really good. Yeah, I've heard of it. The vibes, the vibes are really cool because, um, the story starts with, um, uh, like a, an RPG party,
Starting point is 01:09:12 and they basically, they beat the demon king. So when they start, basically at the end of a journey, and then, uh, after that, it just says, cool. The king's like, good job. And then it says 50 years later. And Fierran is an elf. She's exactly the same. Right. Cool the Kings like good job and then it says 50 years later and Fierran is an elf. She's exactly the same right everybody else in the party has gone their separate ways They're aging and it ends with they're like the first episode starts with her going to the funeral of the His name's him over here always like the leader of that party because that guy is a human and he is now dead So this that's where the story starts.
Starting point is 01:09:48 And from there on, it's her trying to contextualize her journey with that group where they beat the demon king, because she feels like she didn't get the human experience because she's so long lived. And it was such a small portion of her life. And it's her trying to like figure out what that meant to her, which is really cool. And because she's so long lived, there's like this thing where like she picks up this girl who she starts teaching magic. And it starts with her as a girl.
Starting point is 01:10:22 And then in the next episode, she's older than her. Or she's not older than her she's taller than her right so like things like time moves in a really interesting way yeah and she'll like go to a village and she'll live yeah I spend like 20 years here and the girls like no we don't have 20 years we should just keep going yeah it's a really cool show. Cool. Yeah, no, I heard that explain this like a yes slice of life, but your lens is with you know again almost immortality is a As a framework. That's always something to be interesting to visit when you see it from that perspective I think one of the ones I really liked is lost Odyssey is like you're playing in a mortal and then like putting back together Little moments of their life that just seem to go on and like how trivialized the average person's lifespan is by
Starting point is 01:11:09 comparison, you know. It's a it's the thing where like you need to conceptualize immortality differently. So I'm really, my wife have been watching Twilight because I hadn't seen Twilight. I know everything about Twilight, but I hadn't actually set it. I was in the exact same position when my wife sat me down. I was like, we're gonna watch this goddamn movie. Like, yeah, I knew everything about it other than having actually watched it. I knew I knew that I wanted to get to the last two because I heard it's like, it's like it's like
Starting point is 01:11:46 Star Wars prequel level schlock like there's a villain that like you see to read. Oh, yeah It's such a weird experience because if you know all of the beats you're sitting there I was quoting it. I was quote like there was a when Jacob shows up and he's like I was what like there was marks when Jacob shows up and he's like You look at you look at you look at Jacob and you turn your wife and you go that's the baby fucker, right? All I caught was the imprinting shit the fucking werewolf imprinting shit and I'm like Oh out out forever super duper done. I don't need to know So my god my problem with Twilight and I'm trying like my wife does not do not care But like I was trying to tell her I'm like you don't think it's weird that this I think I think it works 100 and like 50 or something like that. Yeah
Starting point is 01:12:41 And I'm like you don't think it's weird that this 150 year old is dating a 17 year old that he's like hanging out all day He's hitting on high school. I was like straight years and she was like no, he was he was turned at 17 you 17 forever. I was like no Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, entire reason that works for a teenage girl to adult female reader is the idea of like, what if your 17 year old boyfriend was emotionally mature at all? Yeah. Which I now realize flies apart because Edward is not emotionally mature He's actually a freak
Starting point is 01:13:49 Yeah, the whole time I'm like you don't think it's weird that he stops What if I broke in your room and watched you sleep on our first date? Pat pat pat were you really hot when you did it though? hot when you did it though. I was a little sweaty. No, no, no, no, because if you were attractive when you broke in, then what's the mean? Morely great. JoJo, that love story, that's true love. So who am I to who am I right right right just just change your face um Oh, but but at the same time too like I'm also like thinking of that like the um the ongoing immortal kind of like love story thing like um That viewpoint is super interesting and I kind of wish like when it was introduced in mass effect like the perspective of mass effect through the lens of like playing as an asari Would be so different Right or as a Selerian like 40 years versus practically a thousand like it'd be like that's the kind of thing where you like
Starting point is 01:14:51 I like playing with that as a as a theme or like I'd like to see oh man We're the best of the character moments of that whole series is like the conversation you can hear in the Ilium Mall Yeah, of the couple sorry daughter hanging out with her dad who's got like 10 years to go, because he's a little worried. That's exactly super interesting stuff. There's, I was watching something that was just, it was an interesting like Dungeons and Dragons concept that people don't like play with.
Starting point is 01:15:18 Because like a lot of the like forgotten Grounds history has happened in like a thousand year period Where there are races that live that long. Oh, yeah Starry in is alive for the events of Baldur skate one and two Like there's there's a way of approaching Yeah, this is like my third world cataclysm like Like, I've seen this happen several times in my life. Okay, okay. That people don't play with because it's like, no,
Starting point is 01:15:52 like this should be kind of normal to you. Like this should happen literally every 50 years. I'm 480 years old, so I've seen it like eight or nine times. The god of magic has died three times in my lifetime. Like that's like, you just change the worst perspective of things. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Interesting.
Starting point is 01:16:11 Oh man. Oh yeah. Oh, the absolute. Did you fuckers remember the time of troubles when the gods were walking around mortal? That shit was crazy. Yeah, exactly. Uh, well, I mean, whatever. I guess we'll find out like were they out?
Starting point is 01:16:26 Were they were they Greek gods were there a flawed and full of shit? Oh, yeah, they're terrible. They're terrible God, so I heard I heard a really interesting Explanation because in Baldur's gate Withers your little skeleton for he drills it into your head the entire time he's like Mindflare still have souls they don't have souls man mind players don't have souls not even one mind players don't have they say over and over again I'm like, huh, that's a weird thing like to like because he's whether otherwise like a very chill guy and So an interesting thing about my players is in DD lore, if you look in the role books, a mind flair can become a lich, right?
Starting point is 01:17:12 And to become a lich you need to be able to split your soul up into whatever they're referring to. Flax or whatever. Flax or whatever. Flax or whatever, yeah. You're supposed to be able to split up your soul into Flax or whatever. So that implies that mind flares do have some form of soul. So like there's a way of looking at it that a mind player does have a soul.
Starting point is 01:17:35 It's just not affected by the gods of this realm because they're extra terrestrial. So even the most chill good god that you deal with with Wither's in your camp, he's still arrogant enough to say, well I can't control these souls. So they don't know. There's also a fun little epilogue interaction under certain very specific circumstances where Wither's just goes, huh weird. I guess you got something going on here because you shouldn't be here. Yeah, this is not my role of control. I don't know what to do. I like when we were walking around, there's a point where you see the pregnant
Starting point is 01:18:16 hyenas on the ground and like that's horrible. Yeah, well, so that's the thing, right? And then like the no no pops out and like, yeah, Reggie was like, oh, well, so that's the thing right and then like the no no pops out and like yeah, Reggie was like Oh, it's a it's another life form like should we be I'm like no, they're not you don't have to think about the morality There's nothing to it. No, sir Murder on site you don't have to feel bad like they're just they're yeah, so less horrible evil beings that shouldn't exist their dad soulless horrible evil beings that should exist i think the funniest thing about this willy is that like usually you'd be like what's it in the fucking monster manual or in the players handbook would be a
Starting point is 01:18:51 really good yeah splitting the except what bothers gate three says hey remember this entire evil race from the from the monster manual called the githy Yankee yeah we're gonna just drag them into the player's handbook. Right. Okay. Okay. Even in D&D, like they, uh, freaking, you can play a bugbear in D&D. Yeah, man. If you're D&D. Play Poland. Okay, so. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:19:14 So as long as you don't update your, your, your, your players headbook and monster manual, you could walk around and just off any Githy Yankee or no, you see. Got it. Um, no car. Uh, Pat, I did. I was gonna say, uh, just to just to take a look, you do it was, uh, how is your week? I'm gonna need to take a break and go piss before I talk about my week because I have like 11 games to go through. I've been holding a P. Okay, great. Let's do it. PRB. All right. How's your week? All kids in Springfield are SOPs.
Starting point is 01:19:52 Moving on. All right. Careful. Did either of you guys play the like a dragon, infinite wealth demo? The demo or the the guidance. So the demo, you have to beat guidance to unlock the demo.
Starting point is 01:20:13 Watch somebody play a guy. Wait, really? It's it's locked. It's on the main menu and you go to click on it and goes beat the game, dumbass. We've got to finish. Damn, okay. It's because the post credit scene in a guidance
Starting point is 01:20:29 is the opening scene for Kiryu in Infinite World. Okay, okay. It is a very, very direct, the bleed through. Oh man, like it's so weird that there are two persona games coming out back to back. Like right next to each other. And like, I, that joke was like funny before I played it.
Starting point is 01:20:52 And now that I have played this demo, it is even funnier because they have some of the menu stuff coming in that is clearly trying to emulate like an Atlas game. And Ejibon has a fucking personality grid for his smoothness and his academic that's surely that surely a purpose oh yeah it's got to be that's interesting because i feel like uh... the menus in the yaks of games i've seen have always been the most utilitarian just very very you know, and even when they're like, yo, how much do we love Dragon Quest? They're like, yeah, but these menus
Starting point is 01:21:29 are gonna be Excel sheets. Now, people are pointing out that he had that personality grid in seven, but to rebut that, I forgot. So, it's like it's new. But what is, what is new is like, it used to be like you'd be come friends with somebody and then you'd have your bar conversation And now there's like a massive chart of friendship between every character depends on their skills and whatnot
Starting point is 01:21:59 It is a massive mechanical improvement to seven in every way, but fuck that. It's in America and the excitement of what the RGG team as their description of America is so fucking great. It's so great. Takes place in Hawaii in what is probably Honolulu. And just has this weird tone where it's actually confusing to play it in Japanese because for some reason everyone in fucking Honolulu can speak Japanese. They should have just had those speak English. Yeah. So the ambiance, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah And everything about dealing with the RGG's depiction of Americans is the funniest thing in the world.
Starting point is 01:23:09 Like, right away, the minigame that the demo puts to you of like, listen, I need you to ride the streetcars. And I need you to take photos of Americans being weirdos because that's what we do here. So you go on. Hawaii is really just like, it's like the easiest form of America. Especially for Japanese shows. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I'm hoping with the bottom of my heart
Starting point is 01:23:34 that this ends up feeling like Japan's take on GTA. No. No. With the setting, like of how awkward and weird things are going to be. No, it's Japan's take on Japanese character going to America. Okay, okay. And you like take photos of these sickos, and so you engage in a minigame that is actually
Starting point is 01:23:59 called Sikko Snap, and it's Pokemon Snap, but for freaks on the street because you're in America. Okay. Um, and whereas the Sujimon system in seven was, hey, there's weirdos around. You should, you should catalog them. The Sujimon system in America is have the Americans fight for you like their Pokemon. That's great. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay.
Starting point is 01:24:25 Okay. Also random battles like random guy on the street like level seven just pulls out a gun and shoots you. Yeah. Because it's America. So that's what I'm that's what I'm talking about. That's what I mean though. Like, I mean like you're saying you want the GTA commentary on American weirdness?
Starting point is 01:24:48 No, no. I like just the idea of like, if it's an American city, but it's like, made through the lens of Japan, like there will be, like, again, like things like that, just like random encounter where like a gun comes out like that or just things that are like, if you watch enough American action movies or TV or sitcoms, you try to like that interpreted into the day-to-day moment-to-moment side quest cooviness and shit like that.
Starting point is 01:25:16 Yeah. I want Ichibon to have to take that course where he does the aerobics and has to say like, stop, please take my belongings just spare my life. Yeah, yeah, just take my belongings, please spare my life. People in the chat are echoing a comment that I'm having in that, when you are describing a GTA game, what are you actually talking about specifically? I mean, I guess I'm thinking of the idea that there would be a... If you're looking at a western movie or you're looking at like the things that
Starting point is 01:25:54 would they probably be inspired by, I guess. There would be crime, there'd be seven, not well not seven elevens, but just the things that are American culture. Macdonalds. Macdonalds on every corner and Starbucks's and things that I did not know of what an ABC store was until I was informed that out in Hawaii, they are your seven, 11 slash Don Quixote, and they are replicated in immaculate detail there, okay Yeah, and as for what GTA's I've played I played the like the older and then three original and then I just beyond that It's just like watching it and okay seeing it. Um, yeah, it's it's just It's it's fantastic. It's it's it's going to I'm a little intimidated from the fact that the demo they put out was like three and a half hours long I
Starting point is 01:26:50 And you see the reports of how long it would take you'll get sick. Yeah Yeah, I mean great. I'm excited It's gonna be a whole thing. It's Yeah, it's gonna be a whole thing. It's, the big thing is for anybody who actually played it mechanically. One of those weird things is that like in seven, you would do attacks and they would interact with the environment, but you couldn't move your guy.
Starting point is 01:27:17 Now you have a massive circle to move your guy into position, your attacks, and you'll get huge arrows that go, hey, listen, if you hit the sky with a knockback attack, you knock him into that car. You knock him into traffic. You knock him into the ocean. Cool. And it makes a huge fucking difference
Starting point is 01:27:34 than all your AOE attacks. Don't just auto miss every single time. Okay, that was weird. Sorry, dumb. Just like, um, is, well, I get, I want to ask things that are, I guess, like, you know, stuff I'd find out by actually get it. I can just not answer them. Yeah, no, no, I guess, um, are you, like, hanging out with any cool American party members that, that yes are showing up right away? I heard yeah, there's a guy named Eric
Starting point is 01:28:12 Who's like a fucking idiot? Okay I don't it does not appear that anybody is Like a like non-Japanese or non-Chinese-descended American citizen joining your team. Right? Like, I know Gary Buster Holmes is sister. Shots up as the head of half-mates. But she has the fists.
Starting point is 01:28:39 Yeah. Oh my God. Wow. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. And I know that like Nancy, the lobster follows you to Hawaii for some reason. Yeah, because it's gonna swim. Yeah. But in general, it just seems to be like the usual cast. And including the entire old cast will just fly out
Starting point is 01:29:02 to Hawaii at some point to help you. Oh, wow. Okay. I'd like one like American guy. That would be cool. There's there's only one that I ran into. And it's a guy named Richard Richardson. And he runs the bar that you hang out at. And you would think, oh, cool.
Starting point is 01:29:24 They put like an American guy in there to just be a American, but he's not, he's actually, uh, existing character that existed in Yakuza three. Wow. Wow. And it was Andre Richardson. Wow. Okay. It was a Wesker style villain that shot people for the CIA. And then he died. What's gonna say, there's gotta be a CIA. Yeah, and then he died. And that was like 10, 15 years ago, and now he's fine. Nobody ever really dies.
Starting point is 01:29:54 No, no one ever dies in that fucking thing. Like, they're pushing like, well, he's got cancer and he's making a bucket list on what's gonna happen. And I'm like, I don't think almost any character has ever stayed dead ever in this series It's it's the series with the most know I was fine actually's Come back I mean kashuagi got cut in half by a fucking minigun and he's fine Hey, Hachi, Mishima. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:30:27 Who will probably show up in some way, shape or form, see? Yeah, probably. No, he did. His name is Rayna, that's exactly. Just gonna pull off a fucking mask. I know, I promise you they're going to say, yeah, that a Kumagai told me about Embeicin.
Starting point is 01:30:45 And he had this really cool plan for going into a girls body. That's great. That's great. The psychosol transfer, yeah. Yeah, yeah, that's, I promise you that's what happened. So I played that. And then I also ran through a wide variety of other games on recommendation.
Starting point is 01:31:02 Have you guys seen Sudo Regalia? People talking about Sudo Regalia, no? It is a fake N64 game. It is the most accurate fake N64 game I've ever seen. The texture quality on the character is different from the texture quality on every single part of the environment. The rooms are the right size
Starting point is 01:31:22 and are linked by a misty square doorways that just, you know, you can't see through, but they load in quickly. It is a really solid like Castlevania 64-style platformer, which is an interesting place to start because the- Just now, I'm sorry, in 64 gave game you think that yeah, yeah, because those get a terrible. Operating on time. Interesting because we've talked
Starting point is 01:31:48 about how like I want to see specific like like things that reference a particular small window of time. Yeah, that's that's pretty very specific. It's like what if there was a good Castlevania 64 game that
Starting point is 01:32:00 has really excellent movement? Of note though is it moves and plays well, it sounds great, it looks perfect for its time. Um, the main character is a goat lady with a gigantic ass and no pants that is just like just right up in there. Oh, like, with like the hooves in the tail. What's that? With the hooves in the tail. Oh, yeah with the hoves in the tail? Yeah. Oh, yeah goat
Starting point is 01:32:27 Not goat Okay, I'm gonna get a fucking screenshot of this and just we need to poo in it Yeah, but with like a big fat ass And where where do you guys stand on the there was an image going around of a centaur girl? I have a lot I have a lot of likes were human links. I don't like it I don't think I'm sending all the links you can actually see what the fuck I'm talking about here See it or a guy. Yeah, only accessibility option is pants on or off Okay, like color blindness no the pants on or pants off. That's all that's it
Starting point is 01:33:11 Okay, the game's stellar like it's absolutely stellar. It is it is a little distracting It is a little distracting. Yeah, okay. It's fantastic. It's it's it's It's it's chippendale rescue rangers slash balloon character design logic yeah yeah yeah okay let's see I got I got to pull up a note pad to go through these let's see I played a very short amount of time with a game called curse crackers, which is a fake Game Boy Advance game Platformer sorry no no not Game Boy Advance a Game Boy Color Game Boy Color game Wow, okay, which is a Like a puzzle platformer kind of like Astro Boy or something like that. It's nice. I just don't particularly care for it I played a chan what I peed I think is a Chinese students
Starting point is 01:34:05 I played a, what I, I think is a Chinese students, a final like exam project for his game design course called Weird RPG, which is a, looks like an incredibly run of the mill like Diablo clone. And then I picked up an item that was like the barge scarf which replaced the entire soundtrack with like hip-hop like house music Whoa And then I picked up a bracelet that would fire out Lightning bolts every time I yelled into my microphone and
Starting point is 01:34:40 Then I was informed that there are Items in that game that scale up or down in strength by how old your video card is. Whoa. And so on and so forth. Interesting. That sounds crazy. Okay. But I can never play it again because it's at some point asked you to like keep humming or yelling to activate your items.
Starting point is 01:35:07 And I'm like, I got a little tiny baby. I got, with tiptoeing around the house at all times when it's sleepy time, I cannot be risking going, ah, ah, every two seconds to fire off lightning bolts. This cut, that's a bit reminding me of, you know, black box, the iOS game, have you ever heard of that? I do not, I do not. Okay, it's basically, it's a game, it's a puzzle game and like it's very minimal interface and like there's a bunch of checks
Starting point is 01:35:34 and when you look at each puzzle, it's showing you and a part of the interface or something about your phone that you have to do, including like going into the settings, turning it, recording, taking a picture, like all different types of things that are outside of the game, that you do to then solve the puzzle inside the game. It's, yeah, it's very unique.
Starting point is 01:35:56 It's using the platform as like, or game. Yeah, this is very similar. I'm, so I didn't get that far, but somebody in my chat who had recommended it was Explaining that like there are items that will get multiplicatively stronger the lower your framerate is Wow, okay, just all sorts of stupid stupid zany shit, which is appropriate considering it's called weird RPG And it has just the perfect machine translated Chinese language English in which it's like, I understand.
Starting point is 01:36:32 Mostly not. Yeah. How do you go into the options and ask you if you want your V sync open or closed? And like I can figure that out, but I don't think that's correct. And the reason why this has to be a student's project is because if this was an official release, what do you put under minimum requirements? Well, I mean, it is an official release. I mean, you can buy it on steam right now. Okay. That's just my gut feeling is it feels like a game jam idea.
Starting point is 01:37:01 Wild. I played a game called Jimmy in the pulsating blob which is fine it's you play it and you're like is this a game that somebody uh made similar to earthbound because they were depressed and then you play it for half an hour and you're like it is so what it what it is. It's, I got to a part where the main character's superpower is empathy. And I alt-f-forward, and I was like, I'm done with this. I can't, no, it's, no. Thanks.
Starting point is 01:37:38 Earthbound feels like it definitely inspired a lot of people to like make Earthbound likes, you know, years later. It's definitely its own genre. I'm not sure if, but I heard that the creator had an interview where he described that he wants to encourage that in a way. People to make their own Earthbound like story. I think there was an official push towards that type of thing. Yeah, interesting. Let's see I played a game called Song of Conquest, which is made by a developer. I really like called coffee stain who do the satisfactory games
Starting point is 01:38:13 I feel I feel stupid because They're like it's just like heroes of miting magic. Don't you remember those games? And I went no actually I never played heroes of miting magic and I got in there and started playing it and was like Wow, this seems like a really excellent send up that Heroes of Might and Magic and I got in there and started playing it and was like wow This seems like a really excellent send up. That's really cool and interesting and graphically interesting So much to Heroes of Might and Magic which apparently I hate I Have no nostalgia for this product. I have Whoa cool. I guess I would have hated those games in the past
Starting point is 01:38:44 Hmm oops I I think like my friend had it on his computer and I tried it for a little bit But I don't think I overspent much time. Yeah, I played game called Samurai Bringer Which I can explain as it's brave fencer mousashi as a rogue like but you have the godhand System for put chaining your moves together. That's a really awesome description. It's very visually interesting and it's charming, but I don't think it actually feels any fun to play. So yeah, oops. I have tried the next most popular vampire survivors clone
Starting point is 01:39:18 called Rotado, which is just a flash game version of vampire survivors. Oh man. It's really good. There's so many of them It's really good. Okay. It's another good one There's no meta progression unlocks at all you just unlock like hundreds of different stat modifiers and little characters Great great great and last but not least I play the game Called you will die here tonight which And last but not least, I play a game called You Will Die Here Tonight, which is an
Starting point is 01:39:48 unabashed, unashamed remake of Resident Evil 1, but from a top-down perspective, in bad, old 2D animated 3D and Every time a zombie attacks you it turns into house of the dead Like first person play station one shooting for No, you're you're like locked in place and the enemy's coming at you Okay, okay And then I you play as six characters and every time you die you move on to the next character and
Starting point is 01:40:25 And you play as six characters and every time you die, you move on to the next character. And I was like, oh darn, because I had four characters die to a single pit because I couldn't forget to puzzle out. And you run out of characters, are you done? You run out of characters and then it loops and then the characters go fuck this. I'm in a nightmare and you use information that you gained from your prior loop to solve puzzles on the next loop. And the entire premise is that you want to have the perfect run where every character makes it through by getting each of them to their natural end points
Starting point is 01:40:56 and figuring out what the good order to do them in is. What was the name again? It's called You Will Die Here Tonight. It's fantastic. What was the name again? It's called You Will Die Here Tonight. It's fantastic. It's absolutely stellar. Like, as someone in the chat mentioned, that like, it's kind of like outer wilds in that you are trying to figure out the right way
Starting point is 01:41:17 to go through the sequence of events to manage to get everybody alive by the end of it. And it has a nice interesting take on. It's like kind of like a, I don't know if you guys know the Game Boy Game Resident Evil Guy Den, which is the worst Resident Evil game. Like that, but good. I didn't know there was a Game Boy.
Starting point is 01:41:38 It's terrible. It is the worst Resident Evil game. It is God awful. All I think of is the, the thing that never came out, which was the demo for RE1, I think, which is a Game Boy color that looked really impressive at the time. Oh, that game was crazy impressive, but I don't think they could make the whole thing work. Mm-hmm. I think it was just too much. It was so intense with how they recreated everything,
Starting point is 01:41:59 with just like, you know, pixel angles. It was wild, but yeah, okay. Yeah. And that's it for me. like pixel angles, it was wild, but yeah, okay. And that's it for me. I'm gonna be going through more a huge amounts of games on defeat the refund this week at twitch.tv slash pat stares at. And then Friday, I don't know if it's ever heard the name of the segment. I'm gonna be playing Pat Stares at beating his wife
Starting point is 01:42:20 at video games. Whoa, that's something I can relate to. Yeah. I'm not sure what we're gonna do. Potally a segment for me. It might be, it might be a lot more LA and War might be a DMC might be something else. We're not sure yet. The change in font sizes is crucial on that. Yeah I put brackets and that's all caps usually. In video games. In video games. In video games. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:42:47 Yeah, usually, so I usually beat my kids at video games. See? See? That's for later. Right now, the baby is like six months old. I could beat him. Yeah, once they're sentient, my oldest daughter actually just met her here,
Starting point is 01:43:03 solided in here a few minutes ago. She like went under the webcam Did you go and get their switches? Oh, man. Oh, okay. That's dedication. Cool. So I'm taking she's like Taking she was like can I get can I get my switches? It's doing taking notes here beat the family says the family man beat your family got it Don't let them win because then they won't improve. I'm so fucking torn as to whether or not I want to, like, there you go. See, video games are fun. It should just be like an impenetrable wall.
Starting point is 01:43:38 No, you know what you do, what you do is, in a game, where they can get wins, but not win in the end. You get them, you let them succeed. You got some good hits in there, but you always beat them. Yeah, okay. Be the tutorial and the asylum demon at the same time. Yes, this is it. You don't want them to get frustrated and give up and never play again, but you give them enough and then you take them to the volcano and you throw them in. There's a start track episode from TNG about this and when they get good enough, just start to cheat. They won't know, but just make sure that you get that drive to beat you still there,
Starting point is 01:44:23 even if they would beat you normally. Yeah. OK. And also I watched FanFest, but I mean, we'll get to that in the news. OK. So over on my side, yeah, I'll try to keep it brief so we can move along the first thing I'd say is
Starting point is 01:44:50 played Dicey Dungeons actually you brought it up last time. I saw that Yeah, I was going through my steam list like later that day and it's like holy versus his purchase dicey dungeons I'm like, yeah. There we go. Yeah, that was, I really like it. It's cute, it's fun. It's exactly as you described. So Brennan basically, this game dicey dungeons is,
Starting point is 01:45:12 it's a game where you, it's an, you kind of go through a dungeon with like an RPG system where you roll dice first and then pick what the dice will apply to attack or defense or spells or. Oh, I love that. It's like roller process. It's like if you are a divination wizard.
Starting point is 01:45:31 Yeah, it's real fun and it's pretty cozy, cute style, a very real simple too. I think in my head I was picturing something with like a much more like immersive like somber tone to it I guess, but I didn't think you would be an actual little dice avatar moving around like going, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Oh yeah, it's a tool. It's very cute.
Starting point is 01:45:52 And then something really fun about it too as well is that you constantly are picking up new equipment, spells, items, et cetera. So even though you have multiple characters and they have different play styles of how to use the dice that you roll to attack or defend He like you get so much different equipment and you can spin it all out because it essentially is represented by you know, like six cards that you can choose from that Yeah, it feels fresh from level to level, you know, so just put it I unlocked
Starting point is 01:46:24 I think yeah, the first like five characters and then play the second or so chapter with one or two of them and Yeah, each one is really really unique and like some of the more complicated characters are very interesting because it's like We have left the concept of rolling dice behind entirely Now we're getting into like almost like pick the number you want and then there are downsides to what you choose. So you're just gambling. There's different ways of gambling. Yeah, there's like the robot character where instead of even rolling dice
Starting point is 01:46:53 and picking what to apply to, you choose a, there's like a threshold that'll be like say like up to 13 and you can always request more dice and once you go over 13, all your attacks and defense disappears. But as long as you stay under that threshold, yeah, essentially trying not to bust 100% right?
Starting point is 01:47:15 And then you get like little modifiers that are like, Oh, like increase your threshold or bring it down to a certain number. And when you land right on blackjack, you get bonus attacks and, you know, like lots of little fun stuff. So they really, they felt it out quite a bit. And the- I'll check that out because I freaking look dice. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:47:33 Like rolling dice. I like having dice. If you ever see me in real life and you give me dice, I'll do what I've been for you. Like even though I haven't played like, do you know, while I've have bought some like sets of dice just because like the feel is really nice of like a good D20 and stuff like that.
Starting point is 01:47:47 It feels great, for sure. Good, heavy one. I got a company, Ogdup Dice, check them out on Twitter. They were like, hey, we want to make you some dice. I was like, oh, they're like, what do you want? And at the time I was in a vampire, the masquerade game. So I needed a lot of detent.
Starting point is 01:48:09 It was like, can you make me a detent, son? They're like, yeah. They're like, what colors? I was like, can you do purple and green? Let's go. Let's go. Hell yeah. Yeah, so it's really, it's really fun. There's a. The other thing that it's not immediately apparent,
Starting point is 01:48:46 but like, so there's six characters and they each have six episodes, but each of the episodes is not just a harder like gauntlet. It is, they are wildly different rule sets. Yes. You need, it's like separate games. Progress, yeah, their progression over the last one and the rules of how you play slash what's
Starting point is 01:49:07 allowed and not allowed change drastically. So every time you do a different chapter with a different character, you're playing a different version of the game. Yeah, and then if you go into episodes, you find out that there's a Halloween series of episodes and there's also a reunion series of episodes. So it's like there's like 40 plus different types of runs across six characters. There's a lot in there. Real good. Yeah, dicey dungeons. Good suggestion there. I played so yeah, very very Okuram, but lethal company is one of the the current meta's I suppose
Starting point is 01:49:48 the hot amokas man it's the hot tell me tell me about this because I've heard about yeah the only thing I know about it is that one for me made it so it it it is it's a lot of fun and it is I I would call it the perfect fusion of Among Us and Phasmophobia. Right. Where you are working as a group and your job is essentially, you're dropped onto a random, randomized planet going to mostly just, you walk into usually like a warehouse that is, and I'm sure there's other stuff too that like, I didn't get to see, but just from this initial impression,
Starting point is 01:50:31 you go into like a warehouse where you're scavenging for scrap and the goal is to kind of get that scrap out and back to the ship before time runs out. And you're gonna run into bullshit that's trying to get you. And you have to work together as best you can unless you don't want to. You know, and there's all sorts of ways
Starting point is 01:50:54 to fuck with each other or deliberately do things. But for the most part, you're trying to pick up maybe a very limited inventory of items and bring them all back, trade them in, and then when you get currency, you can buy, you know, like maybe a walkie-talkie that'll let you like talk to each other from anywhere. All these other types of utilities, the main thing about... That's like the FASMophobia element to it. Yeah, the main thing about it that's a lot of fun and the main reason why I think it's
Starting point is 01:51:23 getting so much plays because you use the in--game chat function so it's all proxy talk. Right. It's very good, very well-made proxy talk. It is. It's put through filters so you sound like you're talking through the ship, through the microphone of your suits or if you're talking to someone in the ship you hear you get all that there and Things will happen where like the one of the best moments was just like often the distance Estabon with the dude who was playing with was just like I hear oh shit
Starting point is 01:51:59 And we're like what and that's it right So you're not quite sure when things happen, when someone suddenly stops responding, if things happen, like, if someone is gone, they're just gone, you know? And for the rest of the round, they're basically in the afterlife, and they can spectate what's going on, but you immediately lose contact with everybody.
Starting point is 01:52:20 And that leads to a lot of hilarious hijinks and moments. It's not always the monster that is out to get you. Like if you see a monster or a creature, and you don't know how it works, like you can scan it and try to figure it out. And again, Phasmophobia, like the more you scan and learn the better equipped you are to deal with it. Sometimes it'll be like, this thing is like,
Starting point is 01:52:40 it'll leave you alone as long as you don't stare at it. Whereas another thing is like, the complete opposite of that, you know, and they all have their own little quirks and stuff. But yeah, and it's all kind of like in that, it's all kind of in this like this goofy tone where, you know, the company is just this insane, like I describe it as like, wail-in-duetani corp-esque vibe, but you get there and it's like even worse than that. It's not even really a company, it's just a thing,
Starting point is 01:53:13 it's just this being, and you just kind of are like, all right, do what you can, salvage, try not to die, and everything is basically out to get you, and it gets progressively harder with the weather conditions and all that stuff, you know. So yeah, lots of fun there and I get it. It's just the ability to like hear someone walk, run past you into the distance as their voice goes,
Starting point is 01:53:37 eh, you know, and then like, what are they running from? What's going on? Oh, fuck, you know. I lost communication now, I'll never know. Yeah, yeah, extremely, extremely. That's a fun thing to play with is communication as like a game mechanic is really neat. I also then finished FF9.
Starting point is 01:54:00 Hey. Yeah, that's another one down. So I've basically been going. Yeah, that's another one down. So I've basically been going through all of them that you have not finished. Not all of them, but I just wanted to go through a couple of them that I hear are really good and that I wanted to figure out what the deal is. A lot of people talked about FF6, so I went back and I went through it for the first time not too long ago.
Starting point is 01:54:24 And then the next one up where I hear a lot of good things about was nine. And yeah, in the middle of that 16 came out. So we detoured from 16, finished it and then came back to nine. And now I just wrapped that up as well. That's a fucking, that's a real fun game. I really like, yeah, I can definitely see how these two in particular, six and nine are in particular. Like I'm seeing the things that like people love about it. The cast is very just
Starting point is 01:54:49 fun to hang out with when you have a good party, you know, it's it's like you can just you can just go as many adventures and discs as and do whatever you want like time wise because it's hanging out with them is is a lot of fun. I love six. I love six a lot. Six hit, man. I definitely walked away going like I fucking get it. Now, I did play the Pixel Remaster. So for the improvements that were made there,
Starting point is 01:55:15 I do know that it was a similar experience. Yeah, but the game was 20 fucking years old at that point. I think that's more than fair. Yeah, yeah, I've just, I've been told by a couple people that they're like, well, they just remember you didn't play the original experience, you know? So like, yeah, no, fair enough, right? Minor.
Starting point is 01:55:31 But yeah, like in this particular case, like it's now loud and clear why the main thing anyone talks about is VV. VV is just the best. What a character, man. Yeah, yeah. And like he's the star with the end like, you know, just every time we go to find out a little bit more about him or he does something or stuff, it's just like, what a fucking just, I just wish all the good things for this for VV. You know, you just want like, man, like what a, what a just great, um, um, taking the themes of the game and like embodying them in a really
Starting point is 01:56:10 strong way. And, and so like, that's kind of to the point where, um, there is, uh, I mean, yeah, I'll try to talk around it just in case anyone is going to go through FF9, but like, there's points where like learning about VV story and how he handles the like horrible things in life and stuff or just like so endearing and you get to watch the I guess the stark contrast of like other of your main character going through similar things and I'm like waiting for Zadane to just like, just please relate to VV, please just acknowledge him. You know, and it took a while he, go ahead. VV's kind of like a proto-emile from,
Starting point is 01:56:57 I can see it, I can see it, yep, yep. Like, I'm only thinking of this just now as you're talking about it, I was like, man, it's very like beam-wise and kind of vibe-wise. It's all, it's very similar. Yeah. Not obviously not the exact story, but like kind of the way that the character functions
Starting point is 01:57:18 in the group and in the story. Definitely, definitely that vibe. And, you know, like, there's a lot of situations where the kid characters can be fucking annoying. In this particular case, like, the views was the best. And like, when you meet Aiko as well, up front, I was like, okay, who's this, who's this child? What do you want to do? The person who's going to fucking carry you to victory? Yeah, she is. And I was like, okay, hard carry kids once again. So a realm and gal in six, just fucking did it,
Starting point is 01:57:50 because they functionally were the best there. And like, yeah, same kind of vibe here, right? I'm like, by the end, I'm like, ah, you're okay. Get in. They're a great. And, and I think yeah, but like that's it. You're going through them like, I'm like, Zadane, please, please just turn to your friend here and like acknowledge that you get it, you know, and he eventually sort of does.
Starting point is 01:58:13 And I was like, okay, he got it in there before the buzzer. I wish he had a little bit more to say to him, you know, um, towards the end of the game and all, but it definitely feels like everything about like VV's tail is like the most elaborated on. It's developed in a really good way and garnets as well. I also looking back at it too. Like there's a bunch of shit where you're like, yep mechanically someone was on meth designing Tetra master. I don't know what the fuck happened as we've talked about. Intentionally obscures rules for you, and there's no way to actually dig them out of the fucking game. You just have to intuit it out of nothing.
Starting point is 01:58:56 How do we one up triple triad? We can't. It's the answer. End of story. The card game is deep, says the game. And there's people in FF9 also don't know how to play Tetramaster. There's also a bunch of it that is pretty fucking dated for sure. Some of the obtuse-ness of the puzzles, some of the obtuse-ness of the systems and things that you have to figure out to unlock extra scenes and stuff. There's a lot of admissible content that's very just like, yeah, you'd have no way of knowing. And a lot of that has been relegated to people going, yeah, by the guide, you know, that
Starting point is 01:59:40 was just kind of the era at the time. I've not came out alongside this very specific era of the guide book shit becoming like like integrating into the game in a really bad way. It was part of the game. Yeah. Mm-hmm. And I think too that like, God, I wanted Amorant to be so cool because of his design. And he kind of just ends up being this weird
Starting point is 02:00:06 like nothing, and his neck is weird, and I was like, oh, I don't know where about it. Yeah, you know, just the, and even going back to the like Amorno version of him as well, like he looks so fucking rad. I don't know what the fuck happened in the transition to 3D there, but he ends up being kind of weird. And there's a lot of the characters who are I was kind of hoping and like, oh, like, like, used one or two more scenes with them focused on their individual, like, bits would have been wonderful.
Starting point is 02:00:35 Like, Steiner is a really good character who like, he takes so long to like, come around in the game because he's so duty bound and you're like, he has to go through these, you know, has a comedy moments of dude wake up do you have to kind of get through. Oh, man. And yeah, and he does, and I kind of feel like we just needed one more thing to kind of show you like,
Starting point is 02:00:56 oh, he's fully gotten it. And like, now without a thought, he's gonna just do the right thing here, you know? Like, I kind of like, I feel like they're just, just like your S-link 10 little scenes, I think for some of the characters would have been nice to have. But yeah, overall a very, yeah, just a fun, charming world.
Starting point is 02:01:15 And it's very clear too that a lot of it is send-ups to FF1 that are, yeah, yeah. Going back now, I know that FF1 gets referenced a lot in a couple of different things Right, well it comes back in in strangers of paradise and in 14 and in You know, I mean a decision stuff has to have come out since but if I'm not mistaken I think maybe at the time nine came out. This was one of the first times that one was being well nine was
Starting point is 02:01:42 So heavily referenced like a shit ton of stuff like the all a lot of the games music is remixes of older tracks the music to wow okay uh... like there's a really the the easiest example uh... to be like all that is just a direct rip is that when you crash the the airship and the forest the very beginning of the game um... the next scene has uh has the fucking parade music. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely.
Starting point is 02:02:09 They literally play the parade theme. Uh-huh. But yeah, and then like you literally, you're using your warriors of light, you have all your classes, and then you're fighting against, there's the FF1 bosses towards the end. There's literally a garlic like it's all just you know being a worn very clearly on its sleeve um and Yeah, I think the like okay some of those like
Starting point is 02:02:34 The advent of the summons there were like really high on their own parts at this point in time for sure because The seven the summons and seven or nuts, you know light to the round etc And then eight goes through the moon. So like, how do we want that up? And here you get a fucking full on insane airship transforming into a mecha sequence that lasts. It felt like a minute, you know, maybe like, or so, and then after the biggest ray
Starting point is 02:03:03 from heaven insane beam charge transformation Henshin sequence, it does like 6K. It's like, yeah, I was alright. Yeah. Decent death. Just wanted to warm you up for the summons in 10. I feel like somebody really strongly agrees with you on that because arc became cruise chaser and then cruise chaser got its its come up in as a cool fucking thing much much later in the game. Okay, okay, it's raddish shit. It's super awesome.
Starting point is 02:03:33 Oh, the like seeing that unfold was like, oh yeah, that's the best summon in the game easily. Um, it just hit for less than the average move that Kina is gonna make because yeah, you know, hey Speaking of summons and damage and whatnot last week You're like so you know before I beat FF9. I'm gonna check out those super bosses and I went I don't know Willie's some of those might be pretty tough and you went nah, nah, it's good And so I've been like watching your channel every to be like, when's the fucking Osma fucking thugnail. Oh, there it is. Oh, there it is.
Starting point is 02:04:09 Yeah. So, uh, 80s was a real, was a real fun one. Took a second crack at it and then, um, the hard carry kid, Aiko, took it to the victory. It was a really hype finish for that. Osma, just, it was just to walk in and just, you know, give it an ocular pat down, you know, you know what I mean? I don't know if anyone like spoke to you at length and explained it, but like Osma is objectively unfair. Yep, I believe it was, yeah, we broke it down while we're going through and it
Starting point is 02:04:42 was described as like the hardest PlayStation 1 boss or something a lot on the list of like literally just going outside of the game outside of the genre just one of the most insane you know and when you go and you're like oh but the life bar is the same as a lot of the other super boss it was okay that's comparable but it's like yeah this motherfucker just gets to act faster than you every time and Will respond based on what you're doing and it's it's literally guy walking forward and doing flash kicks You know what I mean like there are there. So you're using the moogry mod which turns the game turn based right? Well, I turn I turned it off though. You turned it off. Okay, cuz like it's like a longstanding thing that Osma is like
Starting point is 02:05:25 actually uncompletable using that system because you take a turn and then he takes a turn for free. Yeah. Yeah. And then you, there's, there's no way to hide your actions inside their tanks. Yeah. So, so no, we, we felt that right quick. And I was like, okay, this would require, well, one, getting your characters way up to over level 60 and then two, just rearranging their entire loadout to go have the anti-Osma kit, you know. Yeah. So I was like, okay, I get it, you know, done.
Starting point is 02:05:58 And so we moved on from there. It's nice to see that I can only speak to 14, but I believe Osma has showed up in other incarnations But every time Osma is there like what Connie fucked it's like when when when when Osma became a raid boss in weeping city It was like the one that you would spend 90 minutes on with a 24-man group and just abandoned Okay, because it would just fuck like so,
Starting point is 02:06:26 like an order of magnitude harder than everything and its direct vicinity. It stops being a video game. Yeah. So that, you know, that's there. And then yeah, we got the, the fucking Kooja theme is so solid. I fucking love it. Real, real strong boss music there. Kooja and the episode of Dragon Ball GT that is like that entire trans bit and stuff is,
Starting point is 02:06:59 it's cool. It's very simple. You know what I mean? There's nothing like, I feel about the main plot line there that is like, it's simple for what it is. It's not that deep, but it's fine. And I think the, it's interesting that there's times where you're seeing as much, the time spent on some serious moments and things about the origins and the history and the world and all that. Sometimes there's equal amounts spent on frog bits with Keena or the Oglop king who cheated on his wife. And it dedicates equal amounts of time to the the goof as much as the the the actual plot and stuff, but
Starting point is 02:07:50 Yeah, it is it is and Yeah, in the end I was like, okay, I think I definitely get it I can also see as well that if this was your first like RPG ever or your first ff game ever and you are First like RPG ever or your first FF game ever and you are Perhaps 12 years old playing it and you hit that you're not alone seen where the friends are kicking into Encourage you you're gonna pour everything all of your emo heart into that moment in that character The first time you experience that moment in whatever RPG It's always gonna yeah, yeah, you're gonna exactly you're gonna pour everything
Starting point is 02:08:25 you know and it's and that's that's what it is. I think I think like it's made for you to be that age and and relate to it on that level which is where I think a lot of people go like yeah this is my favorite and it's the best because of that. I feel like nine would be a really good first final fantasy if that
Starting point is 02:08:42 was well and incorporate so much of the earlier ones that it's like kind of like yeah like a here's a here's the essence celebration yeah here's what final fantasy is about because final fantasy is weird in that obviously you can not play some you can play them in any order it doesn't matter and for the most, everybody's started with a different one, depending on when you started playing it. I feel like nine would be nine wasn't my first one, 10 was my first one. Oh, that's real different. Wow. Yeah, yeah. So I feel like it almost, it almost changes how you
Starting point is 02:09:21 look at the series as a whole, I had 10 first and then there was 10 two and that was completely. I don't even fully understand my fantasy at this point. I played FF1 first so like I had the moment of like the characters have names. Wow. There are people whose first FF is currently going be 16, right? Like, to talk about how different and wild interpretations are gonna be. Yeah, and of course, it wouldn't be FF or would it without, who the fuck is that guy at the last second?
Starting point is 02:09:55 Who the fuck is that guy? I don't know, kill it. Some God, okay, fine. Yeah, all right, moving on. Just last, okay fine. Yeah, all right, moving on. Just last, last second. It's got top. Entity for entity's sake. There's no negotiating with it.
Starting point is 02:10:12 It's weird. Apparently it was supposed to be Hades, huh? Which like is the same and makes way more sense, but they kind of, they kind of swerved it at the end for some reason. Well, it's also like because if you're gonna give your villain like at the last possible second a little bit of a oh I could relate to him right then you gotta have some evil beyond to be like no there's no relating to that. That's just a noable leave it alone. Don't question it.
Starting point is 02:10:46 I mean, it's funny, because we talked about Persona 3 earlier in the show, and Persona 3 does the absolute dead last second. Here's your new guy, and it works. Works really well there. Oh yeah. It felt in a way that's better than 4, because 4 also does that.
Starting point is 02:11:04 Yes, yeah, but in 3, it's the best fucking thing, right? In three, it was watching you the whole time and it's very evident. Yeah, and then you get to FF 10 and you're like, this is not working. This is a very big let down as the final fight. It's also, well, anyway, with three, it's also like thematically with the entire system of the game and the arcana and shit, like fucking.
Starting point is 02:11:34 The mythos comes together. Three is my absolute. You know, there's something that happens, like the games that we're talking about is where you go like yeah, I get it I get where you are going for I don't think you should have done that though Mm-hmm. I like the thing where the JRPG is such a long thing right there's so much stuff in it and It's very easy to slip up at the end. You know, I mean, it's very easy to kind of
Starting point is 02:12:09 lose the plot. To not stick the landing. Yeah. To not stick the landing because there's so much and you're going to finish it because you've invested so much in it. Yeah. I've talked about this with the Baldur's game because the first act is so strong with how you can find stuff and stumble upon stuff and it loses that a little bit throughout, because of your choices and it's harder to set you up in a way where you can organically find stuff that has nothing to do with stuff that you haven't seen before. And I thought to myself, I was like, huh, maybe is it better to try and switch that? Where there's less in the beginning and then there's more at the end, right? Or you focus more
Starting point is 02:12:55 on the end. And I don't think it is. No. Because if you do, then you don't play to the end. Yeah. If you don't have that initial like thing that grabs you in the beginning, then you won't make it to the end. So if you do have a really strong beginning in middle, then if the end kind of peters out, you're not asked. I think that that doesn't just work for RPGs. I think that works for everything and it makes me think of Delveme cry.
Starting point is 02:13:23 So you'll play Delveme cry five and you'll beat it and you'll go, I'm going right back into new game plus I'm going to do the harder difficulty, right? And then I'm going to finish off getting everything in my inventory, right? You ever play like a 360 or PS4 action game and then like you beat the game and then the game is over and you're like, you know what, that was a really great game. I would like to replay that and then you go and start a new game and you didn't keep any of your fucking equipment. And you're like, oh, the first couple of levels of this game suck. They're terrible.
Starting point is 02:13:54 Yeah, I can't do anything. It's ruined. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, rebye. I think that's the reason I take away your skills. Yeah. But yeah, I think just different the way we've been talking today, I'm gonna put a general warning up top on the pot and just be like,
Starting point is 02:14:10 hey, we're gonna kind of lightly spoil a couple different things. I feel like every game we've talked about is like decades old. I think we're like kind of in the clear on that. Yeah, there were one or two that aren't, but I'll just throw something up there for everybody. But um... No, play everything immediately and then you don't have to worry about spoilers. That's not possible for anyone, any.
Starting point is 02:14:33 It is not everything. Play everything all the time right away. Um... Or... Or... Close your eyes and close your ears. I can't do it. The world will spoil you. I can't do it. The world will spoil you.
Starting point is 02:14:46 I can't. Yeah, like I'm not sure if that bit about Curie was, or wasn't a thing, but I'm in it. They put out a bucket list trailer on their YouTube channel. Did they? Okay, okay, fair enough. No, no, no, no.
Starting point is 02:14:58 When Guy Dan was coming out, they were like, wow, he smokes a lot in these these trailers and then every single like a dragon trailer has come ever eight has come out and be like yeah No, Kira's got the lung cancer Got shit very tired. I wasn't sure But I'll but on but on that to to say that I think and This is the latest I've ever seen a This is the latest I've ever seen a villain in anything. It has the slightest turn. It's like the last like 10 minutes.
Starting point is 02:15:35 It's crazy. Like I know that like I will, we've got hard on like the forgiveness thing coming up too much when it's undeserved. And here you've got someone doing a human extinction attack eliminating trying to kill two planets at once. And they're like, yeah, but we can find the good somewhere in there. And it's like, man, he already is collapsing and cursing you as he goes out, you didn't win.
Starting point is 02:16:02 And just right with the last couple of breaths, it's like, but what if, maybe good? You know what? I think that's one of the reasons why Sephiroth lasted for so long, because like, you're in the finals seconds of the game, and he's like, yeah, I did it. I'd do it again. I'd do it again all over.
Starting point is 02:16:22 And now we have a fucking remix scene, which he's like, yeah, I'm doing it again. I do it again all over. And now we have a fucking remix. Yeah. Which he's like, yeah, I'm doing it again. I can't do it every time no matter what. God. It's the, but it's just, you know what it is? It's that midriff. They needed to rehabilitate the midriff. The Adonis lines can't be evil. They're to, they're too perfect. You can have a little bit of a villain turn if they're really evil if your main character is also bad. So if your main character's history is about turning from like having done bad things and then become a better person.
Starting point is 02:17:06 Yeah. Like maybe not genociding an entire plan. Maybe not. But like if the characters like through line is like, I'm gonna we have these or show them them like, it's never too late to actually do the right thing kind of thing. And yeah, yeah, it kind of works,
Starting point is 02:17:22 but it's hard when you're just going to choose the new one. Right. Right. Like I do have them relate. You have them relate. Yeah, I think it actually like kind of weirdly works in Devil May Cry because it's like you get a moment where it's not it's this is the subtext that I've pulled out of it. But Virgil's like, well listen, Dante, I can't just eat ice cream all day and be depressed. I don't like ice cream. I have to fight things. Yeah, I mean, the whole like he was missing
Starting point is 02:17:52 his brother during two bit, his like, it would be nice if that became the real thing. It's pure fan canon, but it would be super sick if that was acknowledged at some point. Anyway, so yeah, that's going to be wrapping up over on the channel soon. So we're going to continue. I'm going to play a couple like short things in between while we get ready to switch over to the next longer thing. So, um, yeah, it's a good time for it because there's a bunch of fucking long-ass things
Starting point is 02:18:27 coming out. Yeah, we're gonna do some interim stuff. So yes, they tuned over. We'll leave versus on Twitch and on YouTube. And also, we're gonna go back to Guilty Gear Strive, test your luck. One of the strongest Guilty Gear is going to be popping over for next Saturday's getting to fighting games as well. Yeah, I also, so I also was like, I guess, I've learned a little bit since last week about God's Illuminus one. And I kind of just wanted to touch very briefly on that because I think some folks were misunderstanding a little bit.
Starting point is 02:19:14 I saw people going like, is this willy calling for why is there no reference to 9-11 in turning red? And I was like, what the fuck is that? What is that? That is what you were doing. And I was like, what is that? I believe it. Why did they talk about 9-11 in God's soul?
Starting point is 02:19:30 And I had to go look it up and I'm like, wait, oh Jesus, no, okay, no. And like, so that, I think. What did you say? So I think, just to kind of like, I guess, get where what I was trying to say was that, like, when we were talking about, um, I wasn't, when we were talking about it, and we were talking about, like, how self-critical a story about Japan can get. Um, and we ended up, and we basically were talking about how, like, oh yeah, like, you going to see any reference to some of the people that were on the receiving end of like how the
Starting point is 02:20:08 wartime actions fucked up other countries and like, you're not going to see, you're not going to see that level of it and like Nan King or things like that are not going to necessarily be part of that look. But I don't want that to be this construed as like why weren't they cutting to that type of thing in the movie, per se. So I guess just to try and like clarify this, I think that like the movie was excellent and it's a, this is probably the strongest self criticism. I've seen of Japan during the wartime in in a mainstream Japanese movie.
Starting point is 02:20:46 Really? Okay, so I haven't seen mine as one yet. Okay, okay. I've heard awesome things about it, and I haven't seen it because I want to see it in theaters while it's still in there. It's fucking great, it's honestly. So it's probably the best Godzilla movie I've ever seen. It's better than best Godzilla movie I've ever seen. Like I- It's better than my voice, Shin. Shin is awesome because of the unsettling horror of the things the Godzilla does. The design of Shin is so fucking incredible and that's the best. But beyond that aspect, this is just incredible. I heard the human level of minus one is very good like, very good. And it's kind of like a return to like the original Godzilla, um, where Godzilla is this horrible, horrible bad guy. Yeah, it's
Starting point is 02:21:34 it is Godzilla versus like, you know, uh, like Japan at its lowest point, right? It's just there's no other monster that shows up necessarily for him to deal with. So, yeah, look, I, I, I, I, I, I, if you want to call it cope, then I'm just like, I just want to kind of clarify I think something I've learned that is interesting. But the reason why I was thinking that is essentially because I think the movie does a really good job of like criticizing the shitty government at the time that they had during the World War II era. And it gives you the main character who's got a struggle that represents what the nation is going through.
Starting point is 02:22:15 And you get to follow through the regular citizens who are being initially callous about things like Kamikaze, and the main character and such. And then they, over the course of the movie, they become more human about that stuff, right? Because that particular time, you're especially with them dealing with loss is a lot that they're going through
Starting point is 02:22:38 and they lash out in this way. So you can establish a lot of that. They really set it up really well that like the average citizen was fucked over by the imperial mentality at the time. It doesn't an incredible job going into that. What led to what I was kind of trying to get at and admittedly I think if I can put my thoughts out there and formulate them I can probably communicate better. But the reason why I was like wondering about what I brought up was because like there's essentially
Starting point is 02:23:06 a scene where former admiral and officers of the army are among the average citizens who are like fighting back to try and figure out what to do about Godzilla and it made me wonder if like like okay the average person was fucked over in a lot of cases from from top to bottom here But the military brass was responsible for bad thing and the higher up we go on the totem pole are we supposed to really like Have that be have like if they're not if they're if they're depicted in an uncritical light or there are there mixed in amongst like the humble heroes That the that the stories kind of setting up? I'm less sympathetic to that, right?
Starting point is 02:23:48 It would be similar. And to be fair to you, it's not the, why didn't they mention 9-11 turning red because turning red is a baby movie that just happens to take place around 2001. Yeah, yeah, yeah. This is a movie about war and about, you know,, you're dealing with you're not dealing with the kids that Were responsible for
Starting point is 02:24:11 Correct We're dealing with the military men who are responsible for the atrocities that they commit Correct and you're and you're not that kids not that any kids said anything to do with night 11 That we know of but the that we know of but that's that's kind of the thing is, you're having some of the citizens who are just like, man, this is all fucked. And then amongst that are some officers and admirals and people that are coming in. And I was like, OK, it would be a similar if you have any ex Nazi officer depicted in a similar light per se.
Starting point is 02:24:44 So I was not sure about how they're gonna go about that. That's kind of the... I'm gonna raise my hand for a second here. That comparison doesn't work because depictions of Nazism and whatnot in Germany is prohibited by law under a wide variety of circumstances. Right, okay. Germany is prohibited by law under a wide variety of circumstances. Right. Okay.
Starting point is 02:25:06 Like, they have an entire legal framework of, you can't even push the foot around this shit at all. Okay. But that's kind of like where the thought was coming from essentially was like the further away you are from the boots on the ground in these situations, the more, the less sympathetic I'm going gonna be towards you and the decisions you made, especially if you're amongst the decision makers,
Starting point is 02:25:29 and if those people are included with those that you're extensively rooting for, you know, I was like, hmm, okay. But what I've since learned, and again, I feel like just to clarify, that's, again, it does a pretty good incredible job of like looking at themselves internally in the movie But like with these figures what I have learned that is interesting is that like the
Starting point is 02:26:00 perhaps the reason why they used particularly the admiral or the the captain in this movie and the person who's the main person I'm thinking of who kind of walks in and then gets the group together to do all this. It's not just necessarily like a random captain that would have been a part of what happened in the same way. It seems as if there's enough referencing a particular fusion of two people in history. And so it seems as if the captain, Yuki Kaze,
Starting point is 02:26:33 his name is supposed to be referencing one person was Captain Hara, who was the only Japanese Navy captain that survived from the start of World War II to the end, and was staunchly against kamikaze and criticized the government heavily over it. And that role, if that's the person that's being referenced, makes a lot of sense. And there's another point to where there's an actual ship called the Yukikaze and the there's a moment in real life where a
Starting point is 02:27:10 the captain of that ship does a salute to the Johnston at the Battle of Samara, which is something else that happened to referentially in in World War Two. And so there's basically a fusion of these two characters that are being represented in this movie. So the person they picked was not necessarily just, you know, the, well, the, the, the, the same as grabbing someone that would have been like just as guilty and just as bad in that way.
Starting point is 02:27:36 It's more so that like this is a reference to someone that possibly, I'm not 100% certain on this. Somebody, it's meant to be somebody who was at, not abstaining but or or at the very I guess at the very least pushing against and one of the now admittedly the person who did the saluting from clicking a look you go to the that that Wikipedia and there is a section that does have a war crimes category you know for that for Captain terror Ochi your hand is up, yeah.
Starting point is 02:28:05 Yeah. I just want to say that I think the entire, this entire conversation is fairly absurd. Okay. Like we had a, we had a one sentence version of this conversation when you, when we started it last week and which you said, are they going to delve into that? And we know, of course not. It's like a movie that is based around one of the most tragic times in a nation's history in which they were
Starting point is 02:28:31 getting fucked every single which way and in the midst of human tragedy is not going to take a sides and seen cuts and mentions of, but our country also did all that heinous shit to confuse the audience into feeling of two ways about it. It's like we were in a really bad place and then could you imagine if Godzilla attacked, but if you included any of the shit you're talking about, the half of the audience would go, yeah, it was good Godzilla attack. Yeah, okay, yeah. Right, right, right. And I think-
Starting point is 02:29:01 You don't ever want to justify that, go. I think like in like, though, just I just don't, I don't want people to think that I'm like, why, again, why 9-11 turning red? I feel like that's, I want to just clarify this not what I was getting at. But, um, yeah, I get what you're trying to say. You weren't in black. And, and in that, I mean, I honestly, so just because I learned about what was happening referentially there and I was like, oh yeah, I'm sure if you know what some of these specific references
Starting point is 02:29:33 and things that they're going for here are, a lot of these points make a lot more sense when the movie delivers them to you. Sorry if this is long-winded and so on, but I guess I just don't mean to cut you off, but I am required elsewhere right okay that's about it that's about it no problem I was just about done so all right BRB all right there we go yeah so anyway that's
Starting point is 02:29:59 that's pretty much all I was gonna say on it and if you still think my take is shit that's totally fair. I just thought clarifying on some of the important historical context that I did know was worth bringing up based on the last discussion. So that's pretty much it. On that note, let's take a word from our sponsors. What better way to transition out of talking about World War II than to go into. You know, I have a hot take before you get a new sponsor. Let's head it. Before is good.
Starting point is 02:30:33 I prefer that we don't have another World War. Okay. I hear that that but also the fucking money though bro have you seen the zeros? Like what are we talking about here man? We got a business to run. No, that's a good point. And also also you could like you can like galvanize a generation ago. It's been a while since the generation has been galvanized. Right. I had a giant war. Do you mean vaporize? No, galvanized. God. vaporizing will lead to the galvanization. I see.
Starting point is 02:31:17 There's survivors will be stronger. There are so many zeros on this check. You don't even understand. are so many zeros on this check, you don't even understand. All right, quick word from our sponsors. We will not have for long. Hey, this week Castle Super Beast is sponsored by ExpressVPN. All right, let's see. What is it? What do we got. What do we got? What do we got? What do we got? Going online without ExpressVPN is like using your smartphone without a protective case. Most of the time you'll probably be fine, but all it takes is one accidental drop
Starting point is 02:31:55 off to solid concrete to make you wish you had protected yourself. Alright, fair. That was a little mild. That, I mean, that's definitely not the wildest copy they've sent us Certainly not but the point is made, you know and as someone who usually flies without a case on my phone I did No, I just I you know I like to live dangerously. I like I like to just But live by the seat of my pants enjoy the edge, you know, but I
Starting point is 02:32:23 but live by the seat of my pants, enjoy the edge, you know? But I recently did put a case on because I needed to like click with the battery that I have so that the magnet works. So now I'm like, damn, I have to put that on. It's got to be PNs, let's wrap it up, man. Well look, the point is this, well wrapping it up is important. That's the analogy, wrap your shit up to keep it safe, right?
Starting point is 02:32:43 It's too late. And unlike conventional wrapping it up, using ExpressVPN will not take away all the feeling. Um, Do you need to feel the encryption bumps to... Oh, man, I love ExpressVPN, the guy who looks at these ads is so cool. Look, look, look, look, alright. The point is this, it doesn't take a lot of technical knowledge to hack somebody. Just some cheap hardware is needed.
Starting point is 02:33:22 Smart 12 year old could do it. Or someone in a hotel room with an Amazon Firestick and a keyboard and mouse. Yeah, you do anything with technology. It's crazy, don't do it. Your data's valuable, hackers can make up to a grand per person selling your personal info on the dark web. So, ExpressVPN is here to help you stop that.
Starting point is 02:33:43 You have an encrypted tunnel. You create a secure encrypted tunnel between your device and the internet, so hackers can't steal your sensitive data. It would take a hacker with a supercomputer a billion years to get past the encryption express VPN uses, and you just have to click a button, and then you're good to go. Again, I use it to pretend I'm not in Canada and that's my preferred use case. Give me access to things that have been banned in this nation. You know, what's that?
Starting point is 02:34:14 A lot. Shit on Netflix, man. Like literally like shows on on fucking streaming platforms that I'm paying for anyway. The amount of times you click on something and it goes, oh, you're in Canada? Go fuck yourself. YouTube of- It's like the same place. YouTube uploads of like TV shows and stuff
Starting point is 02:34:32 that is on in America and on normal networks. They just go like, yeah, no fuck you. I can't watch key and peel clips on their official YouTube channel. Literally, right? So yeah, you can just, it'll work on your phone, laptop, tablet, and more, so you can stay secure on the go. And you can even install it on your Wi-Fi, so that everyone that connects is protected.
Starting point is 02:34:53 So pretty useful. Secure your online data today by visiting expressvpn.com slash super beast. That's EXPR-SS-VPN.com slash super beast and you can get an extra three months free. ExpressVPN.com slash super beast. Thank you ExpressVPN. Love you ExpressVPN. So chill, so cool. Ripped for your pleasure. The encryption. Yeah. Yeah. This week's podcast is sponsored by Factor.
Starting point is 02:35:35 Hey, if you, I mean, people have New Year's resolutions. I think that like you can make them, but ultimately motivation fades away. You kind of have to have discipline beyond that, right? To get anywhere if you're trying to eat better, because like sometimes you'll be like, I'm fired up to like do really good and then like three days from now that that fire is gone, you know, but if you can figure out a regimen that helps to eat better and stick to it, then you kind of can ignore how we've motivated your feeling and just go with like what you've preset up for yourself.
Starting point is 02:36:07 And yeah, that's where something like Vector can help. They've got ready to eat healthy meals that take the stress out of meal planning. So you can skip grocery store steps, you can skip the prep work, and the fatigue and time wasted on cooking, because what you're gonna get is a chef-capted dietician-ian approved meal.
Starting point is 02:36:26 Straight to your door, you got over 35 to pick from per week, and if you're going calorie smart, keto, vegan, veggie, all different kinds of categories, they've got you covered, plus you can get over 55 weekly add-ons as well. So there's lots of nutritious options and stuff you can choose to, yeah, eat a little bit better. Again, I like to take the options to fuck up and deviate from eating better
Starting point is 02:36:58 away from myself in advance, because I don't want how I feel on a particular day to affect, you know, how healthy I'm going to eat. And that's the, that's helped. That's helped. It's a struggle, but it's, it's, it's better than what I used to do before. So yeah, consider trying this out. If you are in a similar boat, if you head on down to factor meals.com slash castle 50 and
Starting point is 02:37:23 use code castle 50, you to get 50% off. That's code castle50. But factor meals.com slash castle50 to get 50% off. 50%. Thank you, factor. Thanks, factor. This week, the podcast is sponsored by Magic Spoon. And, yeah, I've definitely talked about Magic Spoon before.
Starting point is 02:37:57 I really enjoy the ability to eat some cereal, just like you might have eaten when you're a kid, but if you're trying to watch out for the sugar and empty carbs and all the things that, you know, the trappings of what sugar could do to you now when you're older, Magic Spoon is a great alternative because it's got high protein and less sugar? So, in particular, yeah, they've got a variety pack with, you got four flavors, cocoa, fruity, frosted, and peanut butter. Frosted and peanut butter were pretty fucking good. And again, I just, I got old enough that I'm like, yeah, it's time for me to just give up on cereal. It's gonna be a bad idea from now on.
Starting point is 02:38:46 But Magic Spoon in particular has zero grams of sugar, 13 to 14 grams of protein, and four to five grams of net carbs, so only 140 calories per serving. That's pretty sick, ideal. I'm currently counting out and keeping track of my intakes. So this is the type of thing that is like, yeah, you can enjoy the taste of cereal and not feel the guilt. And yeah, I always have been a fan of the frosted and peanut butter cereals in particular. So those are the go-to's I'd recommend.
Starting point is 02:39:22 You can go to magicspoon.com slash superbeast to grab a variety pack and try it today. Be sure to use promo code superbeast to check out and you'll save $5 off your order. Starting point is 02:39:57 Guilt free cereal, wild. And last but not least, the podcast is sponsored by Hanson Shaving. So we've talked about them before as well, if you are not in the loop. So Hanson Shaving is an arrow, a family-owned aerospace parts manufacturer that's made parts for the International Space Station and the Mars Rover. And now they're also making razors and bringing that engineering to precision shaving experience. So that sounds like the kind of people I would trust to cut the hair on my face if you can handle doing those other things.
Starting point is 02:40:48 Pretty impressive. Okay, razor blades are like diving boards. The longer the board, the more wobble and the more wobble, the more nicks, cuts and scrapes. A bad shave isn't a blade problem, it's an extension problem, is it? Oh, I didn't know that. Okay.
Starting point is 02:41:07 So by using aerospace grade CNC machines, hence it makes metal racers that extend 0.0013 inches, which is less than the thickness of a human hair, which means it stays secure and stable with a vibration-flue braid. That's pretty impressive. Okay, that's the type of that's a type of shit I'm talking about. There you go. You put that you put that knowledge to work out in space and and and good things
Starting point is 02:41:34 Yeah, that is a pretty cool Detail and that would explain it when I tried it out it worked really good solid with the pack they sent. And I appreciate the, yeah, the, again, the pedigree. It's time to say, notice subscriptions. And yes, to a razor that'll last you a lifetime, visit hensenshaving.com slash super beast to pick the razor for you and the code super beast.
Starting point is 02:42:06 And you'll get two years worth of blades free with your razor. Just make sure you add them to your cart. That's 100 free blades when you head to h-e-n-s-o-n-s-h-a-v-i-n-g. Dotcom slash super beast. So that's hensenshaving.com slash super beast. And you use the code super beast. So that's henson shaving.com slash super beast. And you use the code super beast. Thank you. All right.
Starting point is 02:42:34 You know what they say face the final frontier. You know, well, you said not bad. You said something earlier that made me think that I'm losing my mind and maybe I'm just different from other people Because you mentioned like guilt-free cereal like the idea that like and I'm like thinking like guilty pleasure You know how somebody you'll eat like a candy bar and like oh shit Right Like like I try to cut down on sweets because I like them a little bit too much and my wife got me like a giant cookie Like a like a like a fucking small pizza-sized cookie. A fuck you cookie, yeah.
Starting point is 02:43:09 Right, and to be like, hey, here Pat, here's a treat, right? And then I came over to the office and because we were gonna stream beat your wife. And then by the time she got to the office, the cookie was gone. Mm-hmm. And she's like, did you eat that whole fucking thing already and like yeah, yeah, it's great I felt no guilt. You're saying is you have no guilt
Starting point is 02:43:33 Yeah, and I didn't feel any guilt or embarrassment. I just thought that maybe I want another cookie Yeah, my my guilt has nothing to do with my actual physical health It has 100% to do with Man, I'm gonna look bad in pictures this week If I had high blood pressure diabetes Gout Everything no, yeah, as long as I was pretty, I'd be fine.
Starting point is 02:44:06 I'm pretty. He's right. Right, right, right. Ah, shit. I mean, look, I suppose like... That's brave of you to say that. If I had all of those things, I'd be fine. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:44:20 I mean, look, thankfully, crisis have verted on my end, but if I ate a fuck you big cookie and then I felt a toe tingle, yeah. That's not, the guilt is a little more real when you're like, oh, that's not guilt, man, that's fear. You gotta conquer that. Sure. Oh, oh, right, right.
Starting point is 02:44:40 You can overcome that. Yeah, dude, this is the mentality that allowed me to give myself frozen shoulder, getting all the boat quests in SS's Creed Black Flag. Gotcha, okay, okay. I have just received a message from my wife that says I hate that you have perfect blood sugar. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha So go gentle into that good night actually says Pat just just fuck raging against the dying of the light just go right in It's comfy. Yeah, so like embrace it. It's cool. I don't know if we have told the story
Starting point is 02:45:14 But when one page was pregnant she got a minor case of gestational diabetes Which is that the baby is fucking up your sugar, but you're you know, you're insulin So she got the little the stick, right, to test, right? And so like we decided to test me, because I was available, right? And like I have made a multitude of bad eating decisions over my life with and like I think I had like a fucking frosty from Wendy's.
Starting point is 02:45:45 And then we tested it. And it came back like, perfect. And she's just sitting there and she didn't even have her own diabetes. Like it was gifted to her. She's like, this is bullshit. Oh yeah. Pro terrible. Skill, skill issue says pass this last year this last year I was I was
Starting point is 02:46:09 slightly concerned because I'm 32 now I felt like I was a little bit lower energy right like I felt like I wasn't getting as much out of my workouts as I was normally getting and I was feeling kind of like huh my is my testosterone though should I like should I look into that so I went to a now and I was feeling kind of like, huh, is my testosterone low? Should I like, should I look into that? So I went to a clinic and they took my blood. And they said, this is the best blood we've ever seen. You don't need, you don't need anybody. You don't need shit.
Starting point is 02:46:38 And then the problem was I was a little deficient and vitamin D because I'm black. Yeah, that's a thing. And yeah, and I was also depressed becauseient in vitamin D because I'm black. Yeah, that's a thing. And yeah, and I was also depressed because I wasn't working. So that was why my energy was low, but my blood, for any vampires out there, if you want the primo stuff, the wack who's steak of blood, it's me apparently.
Starting point is 02:47:00 So you went to the doctor and he's like, dude, you're a specimen, just go outside and take a fucking walk That's the problem is black people yeah, we are built to deflect the sun Correct. We we cover this last week The two ends of the spectrum are pale people who wear sunblock to go outside that would be me and black people who don't need Sunblock because they're skin blocks out The sun yeah, you be power with the plants. Yeah, that's correct. Yeah, yes and and and that's I got told I got told specifically from the doctor to as well
Starting point is 02:47:36 It's like in addition to that what you just said you also live in Quebec which is high up and super frozen wastes So you're getting even less of the sun during the winter months as well. Oh, yeah in Quebec, which is high up and super frozen wastes. So you're getting even less of the sun during the winter months as well. Oh, man. And you're also a fucking indoor working at home, barely going outside, like just a million compounding factors. You would do bad out here because like it is cloudy out in BC for like 200 days in a row
Starting point is 02:48:06 Like it is it is it is just it's kind of gray. I love it because it means I get to go outside without being hurt by God But for you folk like yeah, no, you'd probably have to take vitamin D supplement if you live down BC I mean, so you know, I do I do take this up Yeah, just to make sure because and I live in Orlando and study most of the year but now you need it yeah yeah changes change everything like immediately and I'm gonna urge it keeping you inside man yeah and it's like I want to get used to just like you know taking all that from now and just like, you know, again, putting the steps in, move it to moment and fuckin' try to figure out
Starting point is 02:48:48 how to like steer it from here because like, what we do in particular is also really easy to just, like, well, I mean, orbup, like you can just completely not do it like the the amount of physical movement I have to do between get it sitting down to record and like going to eat and then just go in a bed is Very minimal. I can I you never want to become a jack or jacker. I what's that? In the in the near cyberpunk future In the near cyberpunk future, when you're able to simply put on your VR headset and get your socialization from VR chats.
Starting point is 02:49:31 Yes, okay. And then you can just sit in a corner in your room with your VR set. Yes, in a bed. Yeah, there we go. What I've got to do is jack in and jack off. You don't want to know. Oh yeah, okay. Right, right.
Starting point is 02:49:43 You know, this is gonna set strange because I'm I'm orbin up a little bit I've but I've I've been orb Right I'm gonna I'm gonna fucking count it as a win That I've maintained what I got going on over here despite sitting at a desk every single day and then going home and sitting on my couch day and then going home and sitting on my couch. Fair, fair. I still I still foolishly have have dreams of a a a fitter healthier me so I'm gonna I'm gonna you know fight against nature exactly exactly. Well so you see, most people's new years resolution is to like get fit themselves. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:50:27 Um, I'm, I'm perfect. So if you want me to make you my new years resolution. Oh my God. I can do that. I can do that for you. Oh, you know what? I've been corrected. Like the wife came in with an assist to be like,
Starting point is 02:50:41 no, actually, I do go on long walks since we came out to BC. Cause the weather's always nice out here. So what I like to do is I like to go to a grocery shopping on foot and just load up with just the stupidest amount of groceries I could possibly carry. And then my exercise is just, I gotta get this shit back at home in one trip. Yeah, I just, I remember when we were doing the the super feud back at cod bravo and you and Xavier Woods were team Kauai muscle and
Starting point is 02:51:11 Because that's what y'all do right we just walked out and we're like yeah We're gonna do it and you and him pulled your shirts off and fucking just started getting in there and I were like How we supposed to compete with that? That's like, that's so unfair, you know? Just perfect body shirts off doing the full metal alchemist muscle off, you know? I forgot about that, that was a bit... Insanity, insanity. All right, all right, all right.
Starting point is 02:51:44 And let's, let's let's again try to Be respectful of time although I appreciate you Join in us and knowing what the deal is I know the deal, you know the deal Something 12 but even when they know the deal it's still like I'm still like it's like I don't want to be food It's insane, you know, it's exhausting. Yeah, I'm also like fucking, you know getting Sleepier the longer these things go on to so um to make it up with me to make it up to me Pat let's play D&D sometime works for me Is that a dice you just flipped?
Starting point is 02:52:23 Yeah, there you go. Yeah, nice. That's a big fucking dice. And it's heavy. It's like, it's like five pounds. Oh, that's it. Nice. Okay. Let's get into the news. What's going on? People make AI ads get caught and say, no, we didn't they get caught again. Everyone mad at them. That is like four different stories this week. So last time we were talking about it was like Microsoft with the ad in these and then all the stuff that was going on with like deviant aren't being involved as well. It's interesting how like with this case, it's like, okay, so wake on, right? Is the one of the wake on and wizards of the coast.
Starting point is 02:53:07 And it's like, in both cases, I'm like, deviant. It's wizards of the coast. Deviant art and wake-om are also like, art, artist-focused businesses, you know, in particular. So like, these are the places that you would think or you would hope would be most interested in, like, motherfucker, you have to sell somebody that has hands
Starting point is 02:53:26 the ability to use your wake on tablet. But. Uh. Uh. What are you saying people with no hands can't draw, woolly? I mean, no, I've seen some very talented people that can do shit with their feet and mouth.
Starting point is 02:53:42 And I struggles with toes. We're gonna get that's exactly. So I guess it's pretty much just the exact same thing as the Indies at Xbox. There's there's there's. They're using the exact fucking thing. Yeah, same. Honestly, I'm an accelerationist.
Starting point is 02:54:00 Let us compete against the machines. Of course. Let humanity rise above the machines. So I don't want any regulation. Let the machines do whatever they want. And then humanity will be stronger when it defeats them. So you know what? If we don't then we don't deserve to rule the planet. Like all jumping aside, like that would be absolutely a blast, except for the one problem because we're talking about like art and it's like every time you see these AI fucking Blue check mark shill idiots going this is the future
Starting point is 02:54:33 They always post like the shittiest looking thing you've ever seen or like a robot woman going oh yeah Fucking and it's just trash and you're're like, oh, these people don't even have the concept of taste. See, the problem, though, Brennan, is when the, when the computer hears what you say and goes, all right, bet. And then the geth, just run the geth thing. Or, okay. Here we go. I want a league where there is no drug testing. You can have prosthetic robot parts.
Starting point is 02:55:13 Yeah. You can be every kind of steroid and then just let pure grits in determination and money decide. I guess it would only change one thing about that. What? I would say there's mandatory drug testing and you're disqualified if you're not. If you're not on top of that,
Starting point is 02:55:33 do you not want to win? Can then you know what, you know what would be even better? In that leaf, when the one gear list Joe shows up. Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. The one man who reprimates all of humanity and human pride and fire and spirit steps into the arena and beats the machine, the John Henry,
Starting point is 02:55:54 the freaking steam machine, that's humanity. Unstoppable we want. The thing is, so you've tapped, congratulations, you've tapped into the bit, which is the recurring, is it gonna be Bloodport's, Bloodsport's Pat? Yes it is. But usually, the bit is humans against each other, right? Is, and having maximum drugs and maximum logs and all that. Versus the machines, versus the big dog and the Boston Dynamics and all that shit is never usually where the hogs come into play.
Starting point is 02:56:28 No, no, what we need, what we need is a uniting enemy. Then we'll stop fighting. Oh, man. Like I'm just thinking about this. That's what the next world worshiping is. And like the big way is actually gonna be be like really lame because it's like you know God normal natural man coming in against the freaks and the robots and it's like well How how's how's he gonna compete well? He'll manage to make it 15 minutes without his quads exploding off his fucking legs
Starting point is 02:57:02 Yeah, but Adam Smasher has replacement quads. He did have lots of fun. Software update screw up is tracking shit right before the match started, and he didn't have to fight any of the robots for lightning charger spots. I mean, dude, like you, Brad, like that is, you've described the radish shit ever with a Geerless Joe that rises above
Starting point is 02:57:22 and everybody with their hogs fully ready to take on the machines and like getting through that process of picking the best of the best and taking out cashier in style right the robot destroyers all for the words nuclear launch detected to occur at which point what do you fucking do right? Humanity is resilient and it will persist Sarah Connor is gonna be at that fence no matter what like there's no fucking see Fist of the North Star dude some people will just be built different Yeah, that's true to lava beard might actually
Starting point is 02:58:00 Our star is a guy Canceiro looking at a nuclear bomb going off going I would handle that Okay, we'll simply parry it. Okay, so parrying the nuke is possible for Approximately five people on the planet right now that those five People will reproduce okay Yeah, so eight billion out but five in for that future human human evolution has been halted for far too long Okay He see
Starting point is 02:58:40 Realizing that he doesn't survive I don't think I want to put my stand First podcast we've ever done to just embrace nuclear eugenics, right? The part the part bread is not saying out loud is and I will be amongst the five God damn it. Oh, we're cooked. I will be the new Adam Christ almighty Yeah, so that's that's going down Beyond that
Starting point is 02:59:20 Very cool and happy to see Bloodborne cart is fucking finally coming out. Oh, is it? January 31st. Hey! Awesome. They pull it off. I mean, so after Bloodborne 64, or Bloodborne PSX, excuse me, which was just an awesome
Starting point is 02:59:42 fucking retro style D-Make. Yeah, Bunlith or Botster on Twitter is just making a bloodborne cart game that looks retro style and is just taking that concept and building on it and doing amazing things. Fucking German drifting around corners and the wheel, all the weapons, 12 racers, 16 maps, full single player campaign, boss fights, local split screen, battle mode. Like, it's fucking awesome.
Starting point is 03:00:11 And the trailer is so good, because it's got like the doll just going like, Hunter, this feeling I'm experiencing, is it joy? And then the camera zooms out in the doll, this first place on the podium. So good. Now Garmin joins the race. Yeah, Garmin's in his fucking wheelchair, right? Absolutely, right? A million percent.
Starting point is 03:00:34 That's not what I was. Gas coin, you're fucking picking up insight as you drive around the track. Like, it's incredible. You know, but, but botsters just kill it. I talked about this in my streams recently, and that's why people have been recommending me so many of them. And Bloodborne, a DMA and Bloodborne Cart are perfect, perfect examples.
Starting point is 03:00:54 Like, we're in this golden era of, like, we had fake Super Nintendo games for so many years. And then it took a little while for Indie devs to just like, nah, fake PS1 games. Yeah. Fake and 64 games. Let's go. We've been doing retro games for eight but games forever.
Starting point is 03:01:14 Exactly. It's time to move it up for a little bit. So there's a, we have this theory in my wrestling friends group chat, that every year is somebody's peak golden nostalgia year. Yeah. We use it in wrestling a lot, because for the longest, it was, I'll bring back the attitude era. Right.
Starting point is 03:01:37 It would bring back stone cold, drop, bring back those days, right? We have since reached an era where the people who stopped watching because they it was no longer the attitude era are like bring back the John Cena, bring back this. Yeah. So like no matter what, somebody is going to be nostalgic and entire generation, not just somebody who's going to be nostalgic for something even if it's bad. Right, right, right. I think I said, I'm sorry, after you. No, just PS2 was not bad.
Starting point is 03:02:09 So that is somebody's peak golden era, and they need to be fed. I think, I saw, I think it was Chris Wolfhardt on X or Twitter who, I'm not sure, it could have been somebody else but pointed out, the best Zelda game of all time is the one that came out when you were 13 years old and your parents were Green of time the obviously best shit Like it just works. I literally got a message from a friend of mine who well yeah, Josh's message mean was just like yeah message from a friend of mine who, well, yeah, Josh's message mean was just like, yep,
Starting point is 03:02:48 played Super Mario RPG, Uncharacteristic levels of joy through the entire playthrough and realized that that was the last game I played before puberty hit and everything went to shit. Yeah Damn, like super real. I just want people to realize that. I just yeah, I just want people to realize like it is fine to be nostalgic for something into enjoy something for nostalgia sake. Just understand that those are the, those are the, that is why you feel it. It's, and it's just like we're brought up about a FF, you know, in particular, we were talking about last week as well. It's this really hard. Yeah, what did you play as your first when you were younger?
Starting point is 03:03:28 That's it. We were talking about how there's a game now that's referencing the exact CDI Zelda era of games that's in that exact style. Like that shit was terrible. Right. There's a lunar Silver Star story, complete style, send up as well, that we were just discussing like these exact moments in time where you're like Oh, yeah, that style of sprite that style of model that style of like
Starting point is 03:03:52 What's the what's the quote? The The defining. Oh, let me go get it. Yeah The defining traits of any medium in a in a generation are the flaws that it has, right? Like the tracking on the VHS tape, the sounds of the audio cassette skipping, the scratching of the record. Because the good stuff makes it to the next generation of whatever the thing is. It's no longer the defining aspect of it, because people take the good stuff from the old stuff. Exactly, and the ideal you're trying to get to is perfect quality with no flaws.
Starting point is 03:04:26 So if I show you anime with DIVICS codex filters, pop it up, you get transported to an exact time. Yeah. I was just talking to a buddy about, because I have a massive vinyl collection or anything, but I listen to vinyls. And my buddy sent me a like a Sony cassette player that he found on Amazon. It was like 30 bucks and I was like, man, peak vibes right now would be getting like a
Starting point is 03:05:00 song or like a cassette that I used to listen to as a kid and then having it for like a walk and being disconnected from like the world for a second. Like not having to listen to something on my phone and just having, it's just me and this walk and this walkman and we are listening to something from my youth before taxes. So the quote you were trying to pull out of the ether is by Brian Eno. And it's whatever you find, whatever you find now find weird, ugly, uncomfortable, nasty, about a new medium will surely become a signature CD distortion, jitteriness of digital video, the crap sound of 8 bit, all these will be cherished and emulated as soon as they can be avoided.
Starting point is 03:05:40 It's the sound of failure. So much of monor art and sound of things going out of control, a medium pushing to its limits and breaking apart. The distorted guitar sound is the sound of something too loud for the medium supposed to carry it. The blue singer with the cracked voice is the sound of an emotional cry, too powerful for the throat that releases it. The excitement of grainy film of bleached out black and white is the excitement of witnessing
Starting point is 03:06:00 events to momentous for the medium assigned to record them. Bars. And that's why I feel your body with the burning lasagna is superior than whatever comes next that is refined and pure and clean. Yeah. I need that real player, the little frame around my- The real player goes so- Man, the second tag tournament two came out. I remember playing it on PlayStation 2 and being like this fucking Future video games look at these jaggies is bullshit and then this past week I play a game called the you will die here tonight
Starting point is 03:06:36 That looks like a Game Boy game struggling to make 3d models my oh look how jagged Machini looks ooh Right, I feel like multiple times we have like a summon the feeling of imagine playing Mega Man X, Armored Armored Dillo, you're going down the fucking railed car and it doesn't slow down. Imagine how sick to your stomach you would feel. Ah, it's a pile of shit. With the slow down removed from that moment.
Starting point is 03:07:03 Ha ha ha ha ha ha. Horrible. Um, alright. It's a pile of shit with the slowdown removed from that moment Horrible Um Alright So yeah a bloodborne cart in particular has more like filters for exactly what we're describing than any other video game I've ever seen There's like 30 different camera distortion and tracking and effects that you can put on it to to make sure that you You you get exactly the vibe we're describing. You don't really bum me out is that this is a problem specific to people like us who are
Starting point is 03:07:32 gonna be streaming it is like you'll throw it on like the CRT filter and the greatest filter and the grain and you're like this looks perfect and then you look at what your stream looks like and the video compression just yeah yeah yeah I thought you were gonna say the there's a Twitter account bread and that's like here's what multiple old games with sprite art looked like on a CRT versus on a purpose yeah the blurring it's it's meant it's meant for yeah it's meant for, yeah, it's meant to be on the pixels on the CRT. Like slightly distorted. Yeah, and it looks better. There's an account that follow on the TikTok that like goes out of their way to
Starting point is 03:08:20 it's all about like taking a wrong from like an older game and then just making it like the perfect way for you to play it On like modern things, right? I can't think of what it's called. It's really cool But yeah, the idea is how do we fix the the Disconnect between the old technology and the new technology so that it presents better Yeah, I think the people mentioning the Dracula portrait from Symphony of the night is the best example of disconnect between the old technology and the new technology so that it presents better. Yeah, I think the people mentioning the Dracula portrait from Symphony of the Night is the best example of this. The red glow of the eyes just gets completely killed when you play it on a clean HD screen.
Starting point is 03:08:57 Anyway, okay, so that is coming also a wild one but out of nowhere NC soft has licensed city of heroes to continue development particularly the the homecoming private server has been given an official license It's the strangest it's the strangest thing this game was shut down in 2012 Where is this coming from? So there was a private server that kept it going. And basically they're getting officially given, yeah, recognition to continue working on this. I can't believe this isn't like a shutdown story.
Starting point is 03:09:42 It's baffling. Insane. I remember this as the like a shutdown story. It's baffling. Insane. I remember this as the premiere Marvel and DC copyright infringement tool. Oh, yeah. It was crazy. I remember every single person I knew who played that game
Starting point is 03:09:54 was like, yeah, my character got fucking told they had to change because I was infringing on a character. Because everyone just jumped in and was like, I'm gonna call you every character ever. It allowed you to make it. It allowed you to do it. You're not a character. It allowed you to do it. It's just afterwards, you know,
Starting point is 03:10:09 then they're like, hey, try not to get sued. Yeah. And at the time too, I remember that's also when everyone was like, well, why don't you do this officially, Marvel? Why don't you fucking, why isn't this you? Something gets sucked and no one likes it. Do you see the, yeah, do you see the, yeah. I'm a while later though yeah but um yeah
Starting point is 03:10:29 that's just fucking crazy uh I never thought to update it or is it supposed to just like I assume the the fan server was frozen in time are they just it's bringing it and making it legal? Yeah, that's it. So it's basically just preserving accounts and characters and everything is, I think everything is just frozen in time, exactly. But there is a way to go back and play. And that's like any time my whole thing with like, you know, I hate how MMOs are just like outside the realm of digital preservation. A lot of games just come and die and they become a title screen for the rest of the 11. Not FF 11. That said, there is something Kino about like a Matrix Online that has like a definitive end that's been documented.
Starting point is 03:11:25 So, like historical. That's a part of the story, not exactly. And like Star Wars Galaxy's got like the good end of that stick, where people get to reminisce, oh man you can do this in Matrix, all right. Those games were terrible. But like they get to be remembered fondly because they're dead and you can't check. They died like extravagantly. Yeah, right. Um, so yes, uh, sorry, with this announcement, homecoming has been granted
Starting point is 03:11:50 a license to operate a city, a city of heroes, city of heroes server and further develop the game subject to conditions and limitations under a contract. So they can actually develop new shit. That's two dubs in no, two dumps stories. A wild. The future is bright. I've got a really fucking L story for you next, if you want one.
Starting point is 03:12:15 Which way do you want to go? You got that nexon shit on there? Oh, you don't? Oh, man. You know that baby little indie company, Nexon that made Dave the diver. You know that tiny little company Nexon. They got caught this past week by the Korean government,
Starting point is 03:12:38 manipulating the gacha rates in Maple Story to zero. What? the Gacha rates in MapleStory to zero. Whoa! And it turns out they've been doing this for the entire history of their company. Oh my goodness. Oh my goodness. The rates of all their Gacha shit
Starting point is 03:12:59 would go up and down depending on how many days have you played in a row, how many days have you not played, how many friends are on your friends list, how many of your friends on your friends days have you played in a row, how many days have you not played, how many friends are on your friends list? How many of your friends on your friends list have certain cosmetic items and have too many of these items being one set the rate to zero forever? And still advertise it as available. So here's where I built different. I always assumed that every gotcha came is like that. Yeah. Uh, the scammers and heres. I play, I play like a, uh, I play like it's a shaman and I'm doing, yeah, strange dances to try and summon the right algorithms to make things work like they weren't content to be a casino.
Starting point is 03:13:39 They had to just be a money pit. Um, and they were find were find, I think 11 million Korean one, which I think is somewhat equivalent to like 9 million USD. But they made 480 billion in the time on April story. So oops. The dawn. Yeah. That being said, that being said, like if you play an ex-son game that has gacha mechanics, I would advise you to stop because you're not even gambling anymore. Like it is, it is a form of entertainment lower than gambling in terms of value for your money. Starting in September 2010, Nexon began altering the probability of receiving certain popular cubes, making some impossible to obtain at times without it forwarding the players to the changes. Probability of zero my fucking God Wow
Starting point is 03:14:33 Yeah, I guess it's like the idea that you're like you know you're being lied to but it's always there's always a little bit of a like Oh, but you never know right to some degree there, I fuck it. That's insane. Like that's a Chinese game. It's criminal have like, and a lot of them have pity systems. And like, I don't believe MapleStory had any pity system at all. Because the pity system ignores the likelihood, right? It goes, listen, if you jump fucking $1500 in this,
Starting point is 03:15:02 you're gonna get it. Like, period. You're gonna get something. Yeah. You'll get something will be. But like you know, he's a, I play fake go on and off. Yeah. And, um, on and off in that, like everyone's
Starting point is 03:15:14 know I'll check in and then I'll roll. And like if it, if it gives me something, I assume it's to make me stay. Yeah. Because it knows that I haven't played no while. Oh cool. Next on has patents on altering the dynamic rates, which is why it was never found out. No fucking shit.
Starting point is 03:15:32 The following. If a lot of user activity, decrease rates, increase rates for users with low activity, change rates based on location, gacha items exceed the number or set amount, decrease rates, change rates based on number of friends on your buddy list, change rates based on your buddy list stats Change rates for gacha items above certain rarities and change rates based on the user's current items It it honestly like you and there has to be a point of like legally You just have to show what the road the on things. Well, like, like, there are, like that's the country that forced that fucking through
Starting point is 03:16:09 of all of anywhere. Exactly, that we were talking about like that thing a week or two ago. Like that feels like the only thing you can do because this type of shit is absolutely gonna continue happening, especially if you can fucking completely hide it. It took 10 plus years for this to be discovered. I wonder how it even got outed.
Starting point is 03:16:30 By the way, follow up to last week's story about the Chinese new gaming laws. The official that proposed them has been removed from office by the party because he tanked the stock prices of the companies. The articles all mentioned that there was a hit simultaneous to this news and yeah, so that's it. There you go.
Starting point is 03:16:51 Fuck you. Social credit store. So they wanted him to do something about it in a way that wouldn't affect any of the businesses. Yeah. Yeah. God, man. It's just, it's all about that level of like,
Starting point is 03:17:13 this was happening already, and you find out 10, 13 years later, 14, you know, like what do we discover now? What's happening right now that you discover if I'm down the line about the selfishness. Bro, if I come home in 16 years now that's what's happening right now that you discover down the line about the situation. Bro, if I come home in 16 years and I find the kids smoking a joint on in the living room, I'm going to get that shit out of the house stinks and also it's bad for you.
Starting point is 03:17:35 But if I come home in 16 years and find that kid in front of Genshin Impact, I'm throwing that fucking computer out of the window. No. No. It's about the same. Like holy fuck. Yeah. Just to game dad, it's like your job. No, shut up. No.
Starting point is 03:17:55 That's when you beat the child. I mean, there really does, like, there is certainly is a direct line from where we are now to swipe credit card, get dopamine hit. No in between. Swipe card, get hit. That's a crazy cycle where you're actually getting nothing. Yeah, I put where else do we go?
Starting point is 03:18:23 Like let's just cut out all middlemen, cut out all the media, get right to the fucking point of it Talking about Well before games and preservation and shots. I talked a couple times about World of Demons the platform The platinum Game that was on the Apple arcade that's getting delisted the platinum game that was on the Apple Arcade that's getting delisted in about two weeks time. Oh yeah cool, they're gonna delisted so they can put it on other platforms, right? Uh, nope, it's getting delisted so you can't play it and that includes if you have it that loaded offline as well.
Starting point is 03:18:54 Wow, Platinum, I'm really excited for your future of live service games. And that's, this is apparently happening across Apple Arcade stuff in general that is just like, it's, it's so shitty because when they came out with Apple Arcade and they put like cyanara wild hearts and a couple of other like games on it that were like legit on other platforms. And they said here, you can connect your Xbox 360 controller
Starting point is 03:19:16 or like connect wirelessly or whatever, Xbox controller. You can play a game on your screen and set it up and just it's normal It's fine. It was nice, but of course the catch is shit like this where you bought it and now you can't access it You don't have access to the thing you've purchased. It's gone. Fuck you bro I'm talking about pivoting to all life service. Do there are there are two games that fucking are gone now They put out like, and for anyone who's curious,
Starting point is 03:19:47 the game was legit fun. It was pretty cool. It was kind of silver, similar to what was it called? Was it like, something samurai, but there's a 3DS game that's like, you just, it was a pretty cool, simplified platinum combat system and fighting through like a very cool Okami style demon designs and such because I believe the same artist that designed Okami's demons and stuff worked on that too. Sakura samurai, thank you. Yes. Fucking, that's it. So go play it if you can in the next two weeks.
Starting point is 03:20:23 God! So go play it if you can in the next two weeks. God. Yeah, what is happening with Baldur's Gate naked replay? Maked clips? Oh, this is great. So people were taking clips of characters and Baldur's Gate on their Xbox being naked or boning because that's content that exists in the game.
Starting point is 03:20:44 And for some reason Xbox is a clip machine. Auto uploads it, which subjects it to review by moderation policies. So people who were uploading unknowingly uploading clips of them running around with floppy dicks in the game, because it's funny. They did add the flop. We're getting like, they patched in the flop because it's funny. Um, we did add the flop. We're getting like, they patched in the flop. That's crazy. Uh, they were getting like banned for years off of Microsoft, uh,
Starting point is 03:21:10 platforms. Oh, so using in game capture. Yes. For in game content and then, uh, okay, okay. Okay. And then, um, and then L and came out and was like this is stupid We're talking to Microsoft and then they got those bands reversed and then Microsoft said listen a human being checks every single clip and everyone's like You are
Starting point is 03:21:39 God and it turns out that it's probably another story of hey no People get caught using AI and they lie about it and they're wrong. Like YouTube deleted that fucking smash channel a couple days ago, off of nothing, they just deleted the smash remix channel for harmful and danger violations, and then all of their appeals got,
Starting point is 03:22:01 like, denied within seconds, and they're like, clearly a robot killed our channel and just won't talk to us. So that's just gone. The machines, less to go. So the QA answer to this type of thing, usually you'd imagine would be, like, if you want to have the game say,
Starting point is 03:22:20 hey, you cannot capture footage here, or you can't share it or whatever, then you can do that. You could implement it. I saw it upload the default, but it's fucking what? You're right. If you can launch all that, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big,
Starting point is 03:22:37 that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, big, that's a big, that's a big, big, that's a big, that's a big, that's a big, big, that's a big, that's a big, big, that's a big, big, that's a big, big, big, that's a big, big, that's a big, big, big, that's a big, big, big, big, big, that's a big, big, big, that's a big, big, big, that's bad. Because there will be screens where it's like, oh, this has a screen has sensitive
Starting point is 03:22:47 information. You can't do a screen capture here or whatever, you know, or even for like spoilers in certain games that they do that. It's a bunch of stupid bullshit. Wow. Good job. Okay. Thanks robots. This is why we'll win. This is like, oh, yeah, you know what some people Or wondering why last week I think was last week you um you made very careful to avoid mentioning serving see you next Tuesday
Starting point is 03:23:18 Yes, and and like hey people who don't know youtube has a robot that detects if you say, see you next Tuesday. Yeah. Like, so videos. That's one of the reasons like, Theros videos were getting all demonetized because of his accent. British is hell. You would say, can't.
Starting point is 03:23:35 Sure. But because of his accent, the robot would go, yeah. British people will be saying the real thing. Yeah. Like, people are like, Australians. Wully, you dropped a hard hour a couple of weeks ago? Why are you afraid to say that? I'm like, not Australia, man. Because when the thing hears it, it immediately fucking, they aggressively have filters on YouTube for it. So yeah, that's the way it is.
Starting point is 03:23:58 I thought you were gonna say it sets the soul in your voice and knew that you had the right Yeah, exactly The color balancing on the fucking frame and goes, yeah, this looks good But we were doing like a ride-along stream a couple of years ago And we were doing call-ins because we were just traveling from like town to town or something and one of the one of our viewers called in and he just said hey guys what's going on and I said like immediately I say finally a black collar and the men's sword looks at me and he says what do you mean he just said hi what's going on guys right? No Yeah, it's your race
Starting point is 03:24:48 Black How does not Yeah, I could hear the soul yeah, I know it should mean I also I also right here on this very podcast when we when we had a Xavier Woods out of new right on a crawl out of my fucking body God Fucking do our ostensibly you know, it's like oh are you of the persuasion? And I was like oh dear God. Oh no And I know that say like I don't I don't think I sound particularly black Upon first listening, but I am Canadian
Starting point is 03:25:31 What do you want from me man Dog like like I'm so far you're being filtered through like two three cultures to get to English. Like it's a whole thing. It's that is that is that is that's yeah. But yeah, the I guess, well, you can tell me if it's good news or not, but the, the fan fest recap before, what was it called? What's the new? Dawn Trail. Dawn Trail. Oh, it was good news.
Starting point is 03:26:13 It was all good news. And you can tell it was good news because despite the fact that I have to get up early with my little baby man, I was up to 130 in Discord with my friends using scans of Encyclopedia aorsia to translate background details on screenshots they released of new areas. That's the my criteria for was the fan fest good is all my freak ass nerd friends staying
Starting point is 03:26:39 up late to manually translate nonsense in the background. Also cat people cat women. So cat women. Also cat people, cat women. So, both cat women. Is the, is there always cat women? No, that's brand new. Is the deal new update, new race, new job, new dungeon? So the update is, that's usually the new storyline, content,
Starting point is 03:27:01 new continent, female cat people, new job, two new jobs. One is Viper, which is a curator, like double sword person. The other is Pictomansor, which is artist like Realm for six. And then they then they added, they talked about a lot about other stuff that would mean nothing to you. Like there's a new ultimate coming in 7.1. There's a new limited job, Beastmaster coming in 7.x. They also spent a long time on the graphics update. I think I briefly mentioned it to you, Willie, that they're doing a graphics update for the whole system.
Starting point is 03:27:38 They're doing all new materials. They're touching up all the heads and faces and particularly the hair. But they did make one very specific mention when they were showing off the new graphics engine, particularly for characters, which I did not think they would ever have the balls to actually refer to, which is that skin textures and FF14 are pretty bad. And in specifics, darker skin colors in that game are terrible, specifically the way they interact with lightning. That's all right, not lightning, lightning.
Starting point is 03:28:15 In dark scenes, dark characters just disappear. Like they're, your character is poor enough. Oh, yeah. Soul Calibre 3, create a character, let's go. And they showed off a wide variety of darker skin characters in the graphics update thing. And they're like, look, we spent a lot of time on the skin so that people with darker skin tones
Starting point is 03:28:38 and characters with darker skin tones will now more accurately reflect the lighting. Therefore, in darker scenes, your character will appear to be a person instead of... Finally. Wow. So in talk about 13 years of development,
Starting point is 03:28:55 but they have finally figured out that. We have fixed black people. Wow. Martin Luther King was right. We did overcome. Walked over that bridge for this day, man. In general, like the graphics update looks very nice. There is going to be a big problem, which is what happens every time an MMO does a graphics update in which there is going to be a wild variation. And here's the gear that was made in 2011. And here's the gear that was made in 2024.
Starting point is 03:29:32 And one looks like a shitty PS3 game and one's gonna look like a nice PS4 game. It's gonna be very dramatic and there's gonna be moments of that game that are gonna be way uglier looking than they are now Just because of the two things next to each other, but overall they're gonna basically do all the new shit And then every expansion afterwards, but they will go back one and tell the whole thing is is cleaned up Would would m. Okay have played on ball mung?
Starting point is 03:30:02 No, okay played on ball mung? No. Okay. No. MLK would have fucking played on Excalibur or Gilgamesh. Profused to elaborate. That's right. No. Great. Because he likes a hard struggle. So he'd be raiding all the time woolly. Okay What what was the civil rights movement, but a raid The million man raid I give you permission to say what I'm I'm scrabbling here. There's not a whole lot to There's not a lot to duck to begin for here. Listen listen. Okay. Do you guys remember in oh fucking? Oh god, what was it? Was it do you gimlet dark? Which is the fucking race war dungeon? Okay, do you guys remember the stone of agony? Right. Oh, I don't. In Zelda, you put the rumble pack in,
Starting point is 03:31:07 and it rumbles to let you know that a secret is nearby. I'm not hygiene. Oh, right. I have a Stone of Agony title detector. When a podcast title is around the corner, I can. When I said it, when I said it, I knew it. I can feel, because I am undefeated every time I've been on the podcast title has come out of my mouth. If you go back, you go back into any podcast that I
Starting point is 03:31:36 have been on for you guys, I have said the cup of so I just that's it. I'm like I can sense it. I'm like let's just throw out MLK and a server name and let's see what happens. But I think we're getting, you're getting there, right? We're close. We're close. Beautiful. The million band rage is a baller.
Starting point is 03:31:56 Well, perfection, thank you. The layup. Is there anything else? Yeah. That I want to even touch on. Yeah, there is. So the Dawn Trail thing that they showed off, they showed off a bunch of, um,
Starting point is 03:32:12 basically they said it was like a low stakes beach episode. Um, and then they showed off a bunch of zany fucking FF9 looking cyberpunk shit that is like the hints of the actual plot that is stakes rising again. Oh yeah, no, and there's two die channels. If someone in the chat is just losing their fucking mind, yes, you'll be able to have two die channels. So the the era of hey, you get a nice armor and you want to die the cape, no too bad, you can only die the metal will be finally fucking gone. I for one think the female roughgar. Look at the actual cool. Yeah, that look great.
Starting point is 03:32:58 There was there was a worry that they were going to be like ladies with cat ears, except that's already in the game. So is there a is there like some dissonance where, look, because when I was at Distant Worlds and I saw like some of the stuff playing out for like the latest expansions and stuff, there's some very beautiful cutscenes and things happening. And I'm like, is there a feeling as you go through
Starting point is 03:33:18 the same game that the quality of cutscenes and stuff just is so much better currently than it was at the beginning, where in one playthrough, you're going to feel the age violently. Absolutely. Like, there is a really specific moment in the Shadowbringer's patch cycle where everyone just starts to animate in a very different way. And like characters start to like touch each other. And you'll get to like a certain very specific moment where you'll see a brand new bespoke animation
Starting point is 03:33:54 that's never existed in the game before. And you're like, oh, someone was showing off for this one thing and then they're integrating it. Okay. Yeah, it's 5.3, where that starts. And there's also moments in which you get to see like, oh, look at this, there's a really specific NPC in the and Walker patch series where you're looking at some of the fanciest cutscenes they've ever put to and then they cut to the ugliest character model in the entire game
Starting point is 03:34:27 that looks like a PS1 fucking mod. It's unbelievable, and then they will have this character speak and zoom in on him, and they're doing that on purpose. They are absolutely doing that on purpose. I'm going to run the filter when you say PS1, you usually mean like PS3, but it looks really rough. His name's Nab Dean. Okay.
Starting point is 03:34:48 He's a guard. He's a random guard that tags along with you and he's astonishingly ugly. I mean when reboot season one ends, the characters are literally robot walking down the street and like one season two begins, they actually have an iK. It's it's crazy. Let me get okay Yeah, I have the fucking I have the screenshot for you. Okay, this fucking guy. What's his name again? Nab team It's he's oh man like look at this shit. That doesn't even look like ff14 man. That is Oh
Starting point is 03:35:24 That face though. Okay. He's gonna give it. Is he serving? No. No, it's not. And it's wild. Yeah, okay. So this character is going to be improved by the graphical rework because he uses a player model. Okay.
Starting point is 03:35:49 So because you two people will have forgotten what this dude used to look like. Because the thumbnail for the trailer for Don trail is a very pretty model of a pretty, pretty man. And I'm assuming that's a, that's an in-game cutscene. And... Which trailer you're talking about? I guess it's... Here, let me send a link to it. It's just a guy looking at you.
Starting point is 03:36:15 And... Talk about Dirk about Meteor. Looks like Orlando Bloom with the darker hair. That's not in-game, you insane. Yeah, yeah, of course. of course, that's what I'm know I know I know I know I know I know I know. I know that's not. Yes, of course, but I'm saying for the FMVs as well.
Starting point is 03:36:35 Like if you're like usually when there's a game where you jump from there's a massive quality jump between sequels or something like that. I don't know if there's any other game besides something like a long running MMO where you can feel it in the course of one place. Oh, I mean, you can see that the CG cutscenes increase in quality. The only thing about the graphics update they're doing is that they showed it off and a lot of people are like, I can't tell the difference and it's because they want your character to look like the same fucking character and they're not upgrading it from ps2 to fucking ps5 they're they're cleaning it so that it doesn't look like a grungee ps3 game uh and all the in-game stuff going backwards if you are going through it will that look better right yeah so basically what will happen is that player character models are going to look way better because they all use the same basic basic stuff that's getting upgraded and then as you play
Starting point is 03:37:32 through the expansions it's going to look nicer and nicer and nicer and then you're going to get to fucking Dawn Trail and it's going to look much nicer. Okay and then, last little thing here, which is not even I don't What do you got? I don't know if I believe this but I mean whatever it's just a minor it's an announcement But yeah, Matt Katz has announced that Yadda Garasu Yeah, that enter the eastward is is going to be happening there's a fighting game be happening. There's a fighting game called Yadda Garasu. Yeah, no, this is a fake story. This is fake. And Yadda Garasu has been announced throughout our lives like five times under different publishers and different contexts. And sometimes it's playable and sometimes
Starting point is 03:38:17 it's not. But it's a really cool send up to Third Strike, but there's always trouble with the license and the legal and whatever is going on with it. The troubles. Always. And it's just like, damn, I just want to play a game where it's like the people that made this, like they like Third Strike and they made it feel pretty fun And also, hey, you can listen to Ultra David as an announcer or here's a Kokujen And it's just the fun stuff, you know? Um, but it's just been plagued with these problems So they're announcing a playable demo for this one. And I
Starting point is 03:38:45 hope it's real. But until it actually is out and in your hands, like I never trusted you out of garassu announcement or Kickstarter. It feels like the kind of thing where you're playing it. You're like, this is not real. It was it was on Kickstarter. It was on 3DS at one point. It was like, there's just all different things that like Three yes thing was so wild like yeah, I want to play a fucking fighting game like third strike on my And I think it's because like a specific developer like got like licensed it for that only platform like it's just it's weird It's weird and confusing and something might have come out eventually, but I Yeah, I just like I'm like, okay, this is one where like, wait, let's wait for it to be in your hands. I don't know, man. But the game
Starting point is 03:39:29 itself was always fun, though. I just, yeah. All right. Let's take some letters. Hey, if you want to send in a letter, send the letter in and keep it brief so that we're more likely to answer it and that it'd be good to castle super beast mail at gmail.com that's castle super beast mail at gmail.com. Right, dear Craven some more been time. Yeah man, more of it up. You got it in there. Okay he worked it. With the release of both skull and bones and suicide squad killed the Justice League approaching
Starting point is 03:40:03 maybe, what do you think will have the longer shelf life or go the way of anthem before the last servers are shut down. When suicide squad coming out. I'm not sure but I think skull and bones dies first if only because there will probably be a government on their asses. I just got announced. It just got announced. I think to slig
Starting point is 03:40:28 February second I think I think Singapore will be upset enough that Scullin bones will shut down Bro is this coming out on persona three day I'm never going to look at it. Good timing. Good shit. I mean, I guess you could have someone say the overlap in audiences is not really not exactly one to one. You know, the question is like which is get which are you going to see in the bin for
Starting point is 03:41:04 five dollars first at your local Walmart? Oh, yeah, my close personal friend Simone Joseph is in that game. Oh shit cool. Yeah, Simone Joe is a king shark The his wife's are just the the body The body of sweet tooth. I don't know. Oh, man, they're really fighting him across the Universe. One of the sickest intro themes, fucking ever. Oh, yeah, incredible. The brass.
Starting point is 03:41:35 I, I, ooh, I think Scullin' Bones. Uh-huh. As it's, as it's state of, please don't sue us the video game. That's it. That game is going to be trash. So of these two titles, only one is causing international controversy. Right. Yeah. All right. Here's one coming in from Eleanor who says, dear William Pat, you know that thing when people are behind a series that's gonna end, they go all out, oh, excuse me, when people behind the series, they think it's gonna end,
Starting point is 03:42:12 so they go all out and they make a proper finale and on a perfect note, but then it just kinda keeps going anyway. Oh, no, I saw this thread that the person turned into. And then the actual finale is not as good. Yeah, what's the most you've ever wanted a series to end on a high note to not continue? Uh, Futurama did it three times. So yeah, I heard about that one. Last one I saw was.
Starting point is 03:42:36 Futurama. Idle hands. So the devils play like instrument or whatever. Futurama has I think four episodes in the movie that it were meant to be the finale finale. No, and it's still going. No. Um, I feel mixed on it, but for a while Metal Gear Solid for me, I was like, yeah, Snake Eater was the ending I wanted for that timeline. And now I can argue that the highs that we got,
Starting point is 03:43:08 I really do appreciate. I can even say that about like, there's some stuff about fan and pain that I think is fucking awesome that I'm glad exists. But everything about like the way that ended and then you went back to the well, it felt like you'd have to cheapen it to zoom in on that timeline further, to dig up the corpse of the boss and puppet it around, you know. But that's
Starting point is 03:43:35 one that comes to me for sure. But then there's so many rad things as well. Four introduces amazing things to like just it's just narratively. It's a really nice place for. There's still good stuff that happens even after you maybe should have ended. Yes, even with even with Futurama, like most of those endings were really good, including like the last one I thought was like the best ending that they had, but it's just weird that they had for. Right, right. With the snake eater thing I'm also thinking about the fact that it closes the loop. It like literally runs a timeline down and then goes,
Starting point is 03:44:05 l'aison fonterille, so you're like, okay, that's everything. Fuck this dude, no handshake, and we roll, you know? Yeah. I've got one for you. And it's a show that I think I'm the only person here who's watched, but I love it. There's a TV show on the sci-fi channel called Stargate SG1, the future of the future of the Dean Anderson and one Chris Judge of the now Kratos' fame. It had eight seasons in which they dealt with one primary alien antagonist called the Go-A
Starting point is 03:44:39 World. And then in the finale of the eighth season, it was called Threads, and it tied up every single loose thread that had ever existed, including stuff from the movie, and was a perfect, perfect ending. And then it got renewed for two more seasons, The actors didn't want to come back or had died and they had to Dog shit antagonist god, I know it's fuck about Isn't that somebody in the chat said even Gellie yeah, we'll not get started because we will never We're trying to we're trying to end right now But you're but you're wrong. You're okay. No No, we'd end the podcast because all three of us are in agreement of that is a dog shit take. Evangelion fucking gets better every time.
Starting point is 03:45:34 And it ends perfectly. It ends. It ends so perfectly that I told people what the final scene of that movie was going to be based off of the goddamn poster two years in advance. I, um, yeah, yeah. Am I, my, one of my greatest regrets in life right now is that I will not be able to experience
Starting point is 03:45:55 the ending of Aving Young again. Like for the first time. Yeah. Because I sat there and I finished watching the last rebuild movie and I was like, man, this is a once in a lifetime experience where I'm going to have something that I grew up with, that existed in this space for all this time and it's ending for real right now.
Starting point is 03:46:19 And I'm never going to have anything like this in my life. I think I think I think Gillian gets to have a special spot in that and that there was a period of my life. I said I can't believe it's over, and then there was a period much later in my life, in which I said I can't believe it's over. And I was right both times. Yes. 3.33 had a really cool design of a forearmed Ava that could be piloted by Shinji and Kauru at the same time and that was a very cool design.
Starting point is 03:46:49 It's very. Yeah. Um. All right, it gets better over here. Yeah. Yeah. Um. Um. here. Here we go. D-
Starting point is 03:47:11 Start banning people from this fucking chat. I don't know. Okay. Alright. Alright. You know. I'm good. I'm good.
Starting point is 03:47:20 I'm not going to tolerate this shit. Yeah. I-I-I-I-to-to say I've never experienced something that Retroactively made so I was on board. I'm on the same board with you Where I was like at some point I was like oh these rebuilds have a suck But the last one fixed it. That's not it. That's not like and I think that was always the plan So it's like it's like a five dimensional chest move Where I was completely played. No, man. No
Starting point is 03:47:52 I'm All right, we can't it's the it's four. It's four 20. We can't do this, but I'll just say um I just agree I It's nice that Genzo gets his closure. Man, fuck, Genzo. Who gives a shit about it? There you go. Everyone gets their closure. Sure.
Starting point is 03:48:18 All right, look. We can't do it. We can't do it. We can't do it. We can't do it, we can't do it. We can't do it. All right, let's listen. I've got a stream today. All right.
Starting point is 03:48:28 Hey, so Pat Kean Wilwinkel, Rocky in Wilwinkels, has an art style that looks choppy and unpolished and extremely limited in animation, even for its time. But it's regarded as one of the better shows of its era due to its writing. And it was called a radio play that just happens to be, uh, have pictures. Absolutely. What's an example of a media that's good, but it barely takes advantage of its medium.
Starting point is 03:48:54 It's or the strengths of the medium. It's in fucking 13 sentals could have been a goddamn anime or a book. They're like the part where it's a game is completely superfluous. Every time Near drops to a text chapter, right? Oh my god. You know, and I mean, I brought it up earlier, but like, you know, lost odyssey's best bits are what you just sit and read. Text.
Starting point is 03:49:20 There's just a thousand years of dreams. Like, you know, anytime you're like, I'm playing a video game, next page. Yeah. 13 centinals will come out as the greatest box set of all time because it would be 26 episodes. And it would be fucking too, like, it would be, it would be, the best VHS box set ever. Each tape would be two episodes, and then there'd be a final,
Starting point is 03:49:48 and then you could fucking put them in in any order. And then you just watch the final. Sure. And then each of those Blu-ray's would be sold for $80 each. I said VHS tapes, man. Okay, well. All right. Yo, so obviously, yo, you killed it.
Starting point is 03:50:10 You've always a pleasure, Brennan, working people find you, what should they look forward to, what's going on, what do the people need to know about? I got too many shows that I'm doing in the next three months. That I can even promote all right now, but this Saturday if you're in Texas, I am at reality of wrestling. It is my homecoming match with reality of wrestling. I'm very excited for it. In Houston, so if you, I think there's still might be tickets available, I'm known to sell out houses, but there might be, I think, the

I like the, like the the the moment that it was just kind of like, okay, you guys have stories to tell. Right? Like, yeah, that's what that's literally what it was. It was like, man. Clock strike so not to get not to get like a like a long tangent or anything, but Not to get like a long tangent or anything, but we were both fire on the same day, obviously. And the thought goes in our head, we were like, are we upset? Are we scared? No.
Starting point is 03:51:58 What can we do right now to capitalize it? We just went on a string. And then that's what it's become. Just us streaming and we tell stories. And it's good time. And if you want to, if you want, and it's not, it's not better stuff or anything. It's just, we had a good time with a lot of cool people and we just talked about that kind of stuff.
Starting point is 03:52:14 So check that out. It's going to be tonight at 9, Twitch.tv slash break right with a talk. There you go. Yeah. We've brought up a couple of your bits once or twice on the docket in the last couple of weeks or so.

Despite only being the seventh day of 2024, we have hit 28% of last year's layoffs already as an hour ago unity laid off 1800 people. Which is about 25% of its workforce. Fuckin' sick. Good start to the new year! Heading for that leaderboard, let's go baby.
Starting point is 03:53:24 Oh, we're gonna crush it this year! Big numbers! you
