anyway anyway um yeah we're here on the new one and your voices are voices have healed so I guess technically we have two weeks of news to catch that we just gather together the important stuff of course you know before we get into that bumble we're not doing this again also I'm not sure if you've seen but there's a lot a lot of groundswell around your animated gif of your head bobbing to the beat of catamari on the rocks that was probably the standout moment there where it was that was a throwaway gag of nothing and it turned out super well so all the gags we put money into never going you see that little catamari view

that someone drew no cousin yeah the cousin the song that's about to blog oh my god it's really cute I didn't see it okay but first that's Lord yourself you like us to put I please push that harder no Pat give us what happened in the last 14 days that's right yeah if you say not much then fuck you complaining about all that I was all mad about not being on the podcast but then like day after I didn't tell you guys because I've made me look bad but I was like I didn't really have much to talk about on this week's podcast so this past week what the fuck I do yeah I know what you did tell us about the video

game you're playing I played some of Dead Island with parkour what's it called dying one dying I forgot you played more of it I'll turn into a retail copy oh yeah yeah that game is really really good do you agree also mediocre do you agree with what Jim Sterling said about it I was the game is really good it takes absolutely no risks in any area and it just takes everything from every other game yeah so it especially since I played a lot of Far Cry like right before this yeah it's a lot like that it's a lot like an Ubisoft game in terms of structure it's like go go go to safe house and clear out safe house and

there's a little side missions and stuff like that and then it adds Dead Island and oh it's like hey man there's zombies and the zombie types have all returned verbatim now how's the free running so that's the part that makes it that this game would be okay but it's like and the story is fine and the missions are fine and so really all comes down to how much do you enjoy free running through this kind of environment and jumping on zombies heads and if the answer is a lot then this game is great also see drop kicks yeah so the scale first person drop big cat to faith you start the game at about wait woolly I

don't know which one's a 10 there you start the game with face faiths speed and almost all of her basic moves there you'll and by the end of the level cap you are more mobile than you are in mirrors edge by a huge degree specifically you get depth from above yeah you get and you get like a weapon per se like the sledgehammer and you do yeah so is there a shockwave or is it just the target it's an area effect for sure yeah so the way that they the game like killing zombies is really hard even straight-up regular zombies really yeah it's extremely difficult in the early and cool and killing the volatiles which

are the ones that come out at night that can parkour also is impossible good are they chasing you really good in our video we packets like the really awesome leveled up sword that is overpowered the caliber and it takes like nine swings to kill one wow and that and that thing does 300 damage and regular wrenches and stuff do 20 so that's so no unkillable in normal circumstances yeah so the parkour now I'm messing around with it and I'm not doing the video I got to see a lot more of how the mechanics work they anytime you climb or grab anything you get experience towards your parkour level and killing zombies puts it towards

your fighting level and so the parkour abilities like one of the early ones is a dropkick there's a vault off of zombies as you are running towards them there's a speed upgrade there's an ability to wall jump there's a slide that you all sorts of shit it's really good but the thing I didn't notice until later is that early in the first cutscene it says don't make any noise because that'll bring the bad ones because there's your shamblers but then there's your 28 days later virals that are just around yeah okay but they're almost never around in the de facto world until you make noise okay so if you shoot a gun or

explode something a message will pop up says they are coming to your location and they spawn really far away on the map but they start and it takes maybe 45 seconds for them to reach you and they're a dead sprint and their climbing abilities almost as good as yours and they are really really hard to kill so you immediately get you book you fucking run so that's what all I thought it wasn't like that mechanic isn't so good but you add into that it's like you're jumping from high distances a lot landing on a car landing on it on is there like heavy fall damage yes well unless you land on a car on a pile of garbage

or an enemy yeah pile of garbage is the haystack yeah but you can also just land on an enemy and you'll cushion your fall but I had through running through the zone I found out that also a bunch of the rooftops because you're in a shanty town are made out of bullshit plywood and if you jump it up in your core yeah crash through them one floor down and that will also cause enough noise over the weekend I saw some really sick animated guests or someone fight with a zombie on top of a roof and they drop kick you see the zombie goes sailing off and crashes through the roof of the other building oh it was hardcore yeah the

opposite of a leap of faith tripping through different levels landing in garbage and then super tough enemies come at you syringes sticking out of you when you get out of the pile you know so that's really good and I really love the movement and willy you will adore the movement it's it's it starts as just below mirrors edge and ends like even a couple levels in it's past mirrors edge in speed oh during the video I just felt that like it was more stable and it felt like the next Jenny version of mirrors edge how mirrors edge felt and it's a big open thing yeah so that's your base game then like two three

missions in and you see it at the end of our video you get the nighttime game play and once you get to nighttime in the first time the game starts cycling between the two it's like maybe 45 minutes for each and no that's like half an hour per cycle right here's daytime where you're fighting the regular stuff and at night the volatiles come out and the volatiles are the Novak vampires from playtube wow that's the open faces yeah they are that exactly and they run faster than you they climb faster than you they are faster than you since you played it morning playing is there any like benefit to staying outside at

night I'm getting there okay so the deal with them is that they are faster and stronger than you in every way they're better than you every way but they don't handle complex variation in terrain as well as a player can so in a straight line on the street they will always get you in a straight line over parkouring climate objects they will always get you but if you climb on the roof of this building and then hop over to this balcony and then drop to the street then climb on the car then climb two floors up and then jump on the garbage that the back doesn't and then you go straight right and when they're not aggro they

are Metal Gear solid vision code guards yeah that wander the entire open world and you are sneaking around through through the night and yeah when they they come at you they all come at you and what makes that difficult is you're looking at your minimap a lot is that night in that game is fucking dark yeah it is dragons dogma dark it is there's your black cruelest dragons dogma in the darkness yeah because these guys that they spot you your do you run your ass off to a safe location it is your flashlight will show a realistic depiction of ten feet in front of you flashlight and that's it okay so when

you are running from these guys in parkouring it is not I know that area and I can see that building over there and you're planning it it's like no you have to react to every building on the fly when it comes to making noise is it I have stepped on to sound trigger or is it it is it is shoot a gun explode a propane tank fall through an awning okay that is your your three major noise cars if you go there or something I did that doesn't seem to be actually well I was gonna say like like jumping and landing on a car from like a high story okay okay and at night there's also various there's like ultraviolet

light traps that you can trigger while they're past you and that'll act as a chase breaker okay so at night it's way way way way more difficult but all the experience you gain for climbing is doubled and if you survive the night for every second you spent outside of a safe zone they will give you a gigantic experience bonus in the morning to your survivor ability which is bartering and inventory stuff and that all that that's a fun idea but that's like that's so weird because that doesn't really make sense well it's a survivor experience outside like I get it take a little risk to get experience yeah it's such a

gamey thing you know what I mean well it's because otherwise there's be no reason to go of course and that's what I mean like it's a cool video version solution I've seen a lot of people a lot of people talk how every single time it goes tonight they go to the the yeah they go to sleep and they skip the nighttime section and I think those people are robbing themselves because I think the game is much it turns into a different game yeah it turns into a stealth parkour horror game well it's the same thing as like people that would play Metroid Prime 2 and go off fucking hate this fucking darkness it's so hard

you're gonna say multi-player energy like no my energy is constantly draining I don't I don't want to be here I think the switch up really helps like because the game if it was just the daytime stuff would become very boring very quick yeah so when you when you max out not max out but like when you focus on your combat stuff yeah can you become at least like competent at taking yeah I'm looking at the skills and it's like there's a bunch of ones that this will cause stun and then one of the abilities you unlock later is instantly kill a zombie with stun okay and like a later game I think parkour thing is called

camouflage where you take the guts and and pour it all over yourself that's cool and you get you get a limited time in which you are invisible I don't see that in the movie and I've unlocked the second parkour speed it's a lot faster than the first and the third parkour speed is like the flash like the second upgrade is along the lines of like faith and the third upgrade is is the ones that we saw way back in like demonstrations of the game on where flying through the game yeah you will eat of all of us to check it out it's like it's feels really really good to be running and jumping in that shine

spark yeah check out that you don't care about fighting enemies don't you'll just end up leveling your parkour faster yeah okay interesting that's your two cents play another game no I didn't okay yeah no he didn't what's the bait in here yeah totally okay well he doesn't know what you're talking about that's okay yeah I played a little game called Oregon Trail at packs Oregon Trails Oregon Trail Oregon as in the place as in on an Apple too oh okay yeah there's a game called Oregon I never heard of this game I played Oregon Trail at magfest with orca whale for the first time right for the first time and I beat

it on the first go through I was really really proud of that so I he saw it he saw the whole thing so were you like me when I was a baby pants and I was playing Oregon Trail in my Mac lab at school and I'd name everything a boob or a bum but so I will say a but died of dysentery that go like no I was playing with Matt Pat Willie and Zach that's fine and and Zach broke his leg okay yeah that was it I just didn't want myself to die at the river at the river never for today except for the one river that I had to I had no choice how lucky I lost some shit but I got lucky how many pounds of meat did you bring back to your

wagon I think I ended up having like 600 pounds of meat it's ridiculous you get way too much meat in that game bison's are fucking free that's how yeah they're they're really free exactly it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be well if you have a good run you have a good run yeah I was gonna say also a lot of the difficulty that we described is like we were fucking children exactly like I imagine most of it comes from being like a little kid so yeah but that was actually fun it's a legend yeah I held up really well actually on the IBM PCs I played Duke Nukem 2 like that was literally cut for me waiting five

minutes for the game to load fucks better than Duke Nukem forever I miss long-loading but the only other solution is like on a new computer where it's too fast yeah I played a couple tank control games Resident Evil HD and oh Christ I did play Resident Evil HD you're totally yeah that's what I was fucking forgot did you play like 10 minutes ago yep this is good yeah I got all the way to the the caves and then I forgot that there was a second hunter in that L hallway died and he insta killed me and I went oh fucking remake yeah but I played that I played um oh my god Grim Fandango and both of those have like

encouragement to play with tank controls like yeah they both I believe they both have trophies for it yeah and one of the Grim one even says Tim made us put this here yeah those games obviously control way way easier with the regular controls to the point where it's kind of busted did you play yeah you play Resident Evil the new controls it but it is hilarious it is hilarious I'm gonna touch you because you don't have to turn around to run away it's not starting stop yeah no it's just move away instead of so much instead of having a slowly slow backup animation that you then turn around and run away I hope

people understand when you can actually toggle that you can see it's like you're hampered due to your controls and that's kind of what makes it partly challenging yeah that was intentional I was gonna ask cuz both of them have like good options for like zooming in and filter and like I I think that the remake widescreen option is actually the 16 by 9 where it pans a little bit yeah yeah I think having almost every screen in the game pan like that actually makes the game feel way better and I was way less static I know it looks really good Grim doesn't have that it just has a stretched and then it has like a border and

borderless see that a gap poster guys just like this is the laziest remake ever and everyone's like this isn't a remake I didn't get very far I got I just got the armor key I got to yawn and I forgot what as what rounds was I supposed to put into the grenade launcher oh it's just a knife oh shut up for yawn assets acid that's what I thought that stopped right there grenades flying to I mean this one so that game they redid a bunch of the backgrounds they actually did reduce they were saying there was one that's insanely so where they have the room with all the shadows down in the yeah that one's completely remodeled in

3d it's amazing yeah the one that all the all the forest parts outside Lisa Trevor's house and all had the all the foliage and all the all the plants completely remodeled in 3d and they also clearly touched that part up and it looks really great that being said aqua ring you remember the aqua ring that was a remake yeah what's the sharks Neptune Neptune they fucked that up so bad oh really I can't believe it made it into the game I mean is it fun like just as fine as it used to be no no it is dramatically worse than what happened they they brightened the scene so much that it makes no sense and now there's a

weird green filter on it and everywhere in the aqua ring you can see JPEG artifacts all over I assume the reason why they did that is because in the original version it was a really really dark room you could barely see anything begin with and they felt like we need to improve off the ring is fucked up you spent so little time in the area it's like why even bother I I know but they're there they're often when you get to awkward it's fucked up and then you know you go down and then there's that that V corridor that you walk towards the camera and there's a ladder to your left that background is the worst

background in the game it is it it looks like a hyper compressed like fucking bitmap file they didn't come 1996 it looks so much worse than all the all the things inside the guardhouse I don't understand what happened it looks like the other things we could find the original assets but this one that had to rip it oh well otherwise really good I yeah it is those games are really fucking great and Grim Fandango for anyone who hasn't been able to play it go play it like that name is fucking do you like adventure games no he hates don't don't play it don't have the end of it don't have how intuitive is the puzzle solving

do I have to use a chicken on a pulley to do some dumb bullshit that makes no sense it's it's not Gabriel night but it's also I mean what is it isn't like monkey island level it's a funny dialogue and it's charming yeah I know but I don't know it's like salmon man I'm asking if I could really complete the game it's the original if you're a smart person I was that no I can't follow the logic that are required and like monkey island then no don't play oh well that's it but for anyone who's watching out yeah and code name steam demo came out yeah what do you think it is fucking excellent this is like such a good

replacement for advanced wars I am that would say that's all would like a big statement but that I'm happy you say now that advanced wars is yeah at least kind of settle it and it might come back in the future but you know it could reuse the engine all quiet on you know it's front if this is the replacement then this is a good replacement that's great I'm I've no qualms of the house is the lion guy that was four levels long so maybe two hours oh wow it's an hour and a half to is the beast man in the demo yeah and he's great you do the jumping fucking yeah his is jumping slimes was that about what about the controls okay

it does control great but it shows one of the like shitty design points of the 3ds not having two sticks because the face buttons are literally mapped to a faux right stick just camera toggle yeah it's just the camera and all your actions are done with L and R well that's fine no it's fine but it's like it's like hey this machine should have had a second stick from launch get a new 3ds is exactly what it's saying so but games really fucking good play that demo and you can transfer all the money you make and you get all that's what I want to hear that's what I want to hear like support I not in the demo I mean

for starters I'm playing it on my old 3ds because the region locks so I can't even use it in me but okay but I did think about that and I was like fuck if only maybe maybe I'll check if there's a Japanese demo yeah cuz I can see it like you put them in there he appears and then the game's like all but not correct all download on my Japanese 3ds I doubt I really doubt it but I did get an Ikemibo so yeah good for you welcome to the club baby yeah did you get an Ikemibo yeah oh you got me awesome isn't he's one of the better looking ones looks awesome there are people sharpening their knives right now that's fine

they should sharpen their wallets go to Magfest that's where they had um I hate the little fucking like plastic bit holding his sword to the ground yeah you just you don't look at any of them too hard except for Kirby fucking yeah you know Kirby and Pikachu and Yoshi's alright fucking Captain Falcon has that big post in front of him and Link since they're using the smash for art is like looking at the ground and see yeah to me in my head the way you do that right is you just don't do those poses you find another pose that still makes it cool or doesn't have that shit Captain Falcon Falcon punching the ground or and the

and the fire is holding him up about the other solution of just don't fucking color the post make it clear plastic you know I even making clear box boxes is a big obnoxious dark blue post holding him up it looks terrible like I never really quite got used to the the Japanese like hold up your action figure with this clear all the way stand stand that's reason why that Godzilla that you pointed out Magfest for the big energy blast has a big dumb apparatus like you gotta attach to the panel you know it's complicated as yeah J. U. T. has that my my my stargazer Gundam same thing and it kind of works for mechs a

little bit if you can hide it but still when it's a big cool figure yeah fucking stands out in it for poseable figures but for static figures like come on no don't wait boy little Mac and Samus look good though yeah Samus just has a little thing under her feet right me both seem really stupid it's that's the huge some of them are decent I use them all the time for Hyrule Warriors though constant you said this the other way yeah cuz you get a bunch of rare materials and stuff I think I mean it was a more interesting the fact that like so many people are using them in arts and crafts and doing like you can see no

villagers like anyone you can do that with skyline those figures if they did never saw it I did sell more to children so that audience would be less likely to do so at least you know there was a competitive Skylanders circle for a while yeah yeah yeah but no I mean all those like Warhammer players that are also Nintendo fans they got something to do exactly exactly you take a look at anything else I took a brief look at cuz hyper mentioned up to me every birth two came out and I started playing that and I got a coach from idea factory for the steam version of the first game and I played that boy that is the best version

of the game like the original release of that game was fucking hot garbage that was the worst one of the worst RPGs I've ever played maybe only beat by cross edge was the problem it's just shit the battle slick super slow okay um and oh man some of the voice acting is really grating this version just fixes everything because it's it's remade on the third games systems okay it's just a way better version of the game and the steam version is like the definitive version if you will once they fix the bugs there's a couple bugs but they've been pretty aggressive at fixing those so I got I got a relatively simple

question for you for somebody like me who thinks that the idea of hyper dimension neptune it is fucking stupid is there any reason for me to even attempt to play this game a $3 steam sale okay no but no not to buy it no no for you there is no reason okay for anyone who's if you told me like it's actually one of the most amazing RPGs ever under me I'd be like well like our kind of heart or something yeah we're fighting about that the hard way no but if you're in for that like shitty anime bullshit RPG like it's a it's a really solid one and the PC version is good the origins of the phrase creepy anime

bullshit you say maybe we'll talk about that yeah I feel like you I need to say that if you like creepy anime bullshit and want an RPG that you're better off getting Valkyria Chronicles off of steam than this that's not really fair but it depends on what you want exactly like that game you can recommend without yeah asterisks next you know caviar yeah so if you want a strategy and they fix the those audio bugs good because that was not it was really annoying yeah Matthew mr. chairman gonna sec you smoothly to you just this week was like for the three of us at least a very decompressing week yeah you guys are

fucking tired even like several days later yeah and I just I actually played a lot more stuff than I usually do usually I go I played one game and that's pretty much it but I finally finished shadow warrior new games are fun I sometimes they can be I finally finished out of where I don't want to I don't want to be that guy I hate that guy I hate that guy I played shadow warrior for one minute and it crashed so I'm gonna get back to it I'm excited for it was not fully installed wow are you playing while it's loading type of thing you're trying it was on sale for like four bucks six bucks I've never had that was

reasonable HD Saints row got out of hell and shadow where all had crashes while there was compliance guys what are you doing yeah yeah you know the resident evil one I had to reset my save file you know what the fucking solution to that is is like watch dogs or it's played through the 20-minute tutorial and then wait let it load for two more hours that I have not had a single game fulfill its promise of this of this idea no definitely that's how you do it right well you just had it off right someone's fucking up the XR's fucking it up you better work oh sorry it's very inside Tokyo food just a shadow where

quickly that game has a weirdly the most you saw the start I saw would you assume that the ending is this emotional moment no that is very subtle no yeah well it is and it has nothing to do with the main character to the anime girl get naked and then die no okay anyway truly we are really taking me back that the your stupid low-wang guy actually has no bearing on the story like his story kind of goes unsolved and you're talking to like some gods and it's their story it's really taking I was like oh okay we're going for this that's cool I didn't expect that but but I liked it but like anyone that can

remember whenever I talked about I just went kind of a bit long kind of a bit long in the tooth these levels go on for a lot longer than they should but it kind of redeemed itself with the last kind of section and the final boss fight was a little easy for my taste but it was still pretty good the thing I told you guys about is that on it's on it's on steam right now but it's on sale on on the Xbox one is a riptide GP2 hmm yeah this this um they made they made a hydro thunder right came and it's just guys keep coming back the time you think they're down no no it's a different group though oh what hydro

thunder was made by a completely different group you know that in the arcades you always see raw thrills the logo that's on almost every modern racing game that's in an arcade but I'm thinking hydro thunder h2o overdrive arctic thunder yeah but it's the IP that bounces around it's not the guys like double dragon h2o overdrive were the original creators of hydro thunder who wanted to make hydro thunder then when they looked it up they go oh someone has the license and they're making under thunder we'll make h2o overdrive but riptide GP2 is a 499 game and it's actually really really good if you like

seven player multiplayer player local local yeah is there a giant fucking obnoxious boost meter on your hide see here's the thing it's a lot more subtle than all those games it's more in line with wave race or jet moto okay and it's just basically simple like jet ski racing but in the future and you have a zillion tricks and this game is balanced super super well by every time you get enough money you just have enough to gain one point to get like a new stunt okay and every time you do a new stunt the tears of stunts get longer and longer and they become not gonna say it but it was almost SSX tricky

freak style EA big style people just doing windmills giant air giant air but every time you do it it takes longer and longer for it to do and you have to balance it between getting an upgrade that says finish your tricks 0.25% faster right and it's a really balanced game the problem with this game is that this music is terrible oh no I turn it off and I use fucking snap to play the killer instinct soundtrack and it's not ideal but I cannot listen to music and like a game that we played a racing game that Willie and I played I think that video go out this week correctly but this game lacks in presentation it's very

just text just goes dry dry and a very car the game we play does not but this game that you're guessing about I mean that's a surprise surprise we play racing has really really tight presentation and everything looks cool and attractive and this game is just kind of like race one go but the core game itself is still really fun does the water work well the water looks what works you have to you know exactly that's why I like it they did a good job on the hydro thunder game they did a good job here it works really well and I like playing the game it's just like I can't stand the music so I turn it off and the

I messed around with Omen can I can I say something on the water real quick doesn't get why I asked that if you've never played like a jet skiing game the water and the waves are the ramps and it's really fucking sick yeah gotta if you've never tried a jet skiing racing game it's not like there's there's ramps there's regular ramps are building this game then there's ramps at the first certain stages the water is just super choppy and you do stunts off the water like the first time you saw dolphin Bay dolphin you know that feeling you need that recapture of blue storm and also a wave race the original line like the

they're trying to do that just looking for names of shows to make sure no one's done so like obviously like if a triple a developer announces the same thing you're working on like do that does it really do everything you can within your comfort to differentiate yes unify your game like because they will have to go the safe route like 90% of itself yeah um if it's an indie developer uh a lot easier actually and the answer is uh kill the person in charge yeah and the whole thing the company will inevitably crumble in front of you no the like when making your game is just trying to unify it as much so that it stands out and then barring that once it's actually going to hit market is price according but um like what's what's the effective difference between uh f0 and uh

mario kart on the super news what's the effective difference between that it's it's the visuals and the music the designs like gameplay tweaks yeah no but like at the end of the day it's just tweaks right one of them has jumps and goes a bit faster okay very mechanically yeah okay but when you look at them like they're effectively the same game you know make differences visual style you know will go a long way even if it's really similar to something that's else is coming out essentially like if you squint they look very similar because they both use mode seven they both are colorful so yeah like universe like universe is something that you can kind of change like yeah without the and the less asset heavy your game is the more easy it is yeah well again

that comes back to like if it's within your comfort zone because if you're really yeah if you're married to one concept it's not that's it's not something i'd advocate switching just because if you're married to the concept and your knee deep into it yeah exactly no no no no no good news for you because you can do is like delay your product like you know that delay get it out first or get it out after we don't don't have it exist alongside it just make sure i and have it come at a different price range usually lower if theirs is a higher quality of production then try and undercut them on the price so that it's a it's a more natural choice yeah but try and get them away from it push it delay that being said we are not game developers we are idiot consumers we're giving the consumer
