Almost no one there had seen Rob, one person had seen Robocop when they were young. These people are garbage. That's illegal. Right? Robocop is the best, most symmetrical movie ever. So, out of the four guys not counting Rocky or you or the one other guy who saw it, most of you didn't see it. Yeah. It's what you're telling me. Yeah. I don't understand the math here. Uh, so one guy hadn't seen it, but that's more than like five. He was a really big guy.

It should be, but, um, you know, uh, we, uh, we had our, uh, wedding rehearsal dinner at the island of Aganos, which I believe that's what the Greek restaurant was called. That's what it was called. And I just start going like, what the fuck? I didn't appreciate our golem waiter rolling up to give us our soup plates and then throwing stone bats at us for a while, but it was good. It was good. Yeah. It was really good. It was really. Soup was a little salty.

I was like, I thought I saw it somewhere. No. I put my shit when I opened up the candy package expecting candy and it was filled with curly whirlies. Oh, someone told me that.

I got one round off him, but he's still really on point on that. I have never in any video game went from being so confident to being so shit after meeting other people with you and then Cranky, and everyone else that I subsequently meet just puts me lower and lower on the rung of Tetris attack scale. You weren't there. And I'm like, god damn it. I used to like identify with this game as something that meant something to me. You weren't there the first magfest.

You were doing something else at the card. You never meant anything to me. I went to the Pokemon puzzle league tournament, which is, you know, essentially just saying the game. And I saw that play. I didn't play anybody because I looked at it. I saw what was going on and I left because I couldn't handle the fucking, the screens never stopped because combo is high level puzzle games.

It's like, it's, it's absurd. It's great. You have to cry out. And my ceiling, my mental ceiling for the skill at this game was like the kids at the community center I used to, I used to play with back in the day and watching them just like combo. And I was like, that's crazy. Then eventually I get to the point that's approaching that and I feel good about myself.

Yeah. It's like not idiot. It's nice to, it's nice to be a basement. It's nice to be a basement. It's basement king. Yeah. Man, small pond. Yeah.

Yeah. Fuck. I, I got a time to actually play some games. Oddly enough. What? Yeah. After you and I took a look at Fatal Frame made in black water, I played it for about another hour or so.

How wet are you? Got the, I'm always, the, the answer is soppy. I'm going with sopping. I really want to play that game. I bought, I bought the full version after getting the little trial thingy and that kind of works pretty well, but I assumed I bought, I had downloaded the full version. Now you get like half, right? And I'm like, it's a better way to do it, but it didn't take too long.

But I, you know, that guy's got pretty rough reviews and I'm not at a point where I can say yet, but I can assume that I think the most roughest part of it was like it's gets really repetitive and you're doing the same thing over and over, which I can understand but I think this is also that the Fatal Frame hasn't come out in America in 10, 15 years since Fatal Frame 3. Long time ago. Yeah. On the PS2.

Well, no actually. Spirit camera. Really? Come on. Yeah. Let's not count a spirit camera. Fatal Frame 3, you know, the PS2. Really?

So how has it been something that's been talked about every year since then? Because Fatal Frame 4 was amazing and everyone saw it come out in Japan and then Fatal Frame and Deep Crimson Butterfly was amazing and everyone saw it come out in Europe even closer and then the movies were like three movies that came out and I feel like it's been like a spirit camera. It's been in the discussion world for years. Isn't Region Locking great? Right.

Well, I remember it was one of the obvious ones when the Wii U's like concept was shown where it was like, yeah, Fatal Frame, that makes too much sense. Guess what? So people have been talking about it recently, I know, like even before this one was announced. Yeah. So I kept playing that for a bit and I really like it up until this point, like the mechanics like are really involved and they make sense. How's the combat?

Well, when we were doing the video, it was kind of difficult to sort of like, all right now, like because when you're recording a video, it's a bit different, but once I stopped doing that, like, and then I was playing like off camera for myself, like I got used to it really, really easily. And the one thing though is if you played Fatal Frame 4, you're familiar with the Wii and Pat knows this really well and this constantly happened where they have that mechanic where you hold down a button and you reach to get an item and a ghost usually pops up. Oh no, silly ghost.

When I say usually, I mean, the one time it teaches you about it and every subsequent at least like a dozen or more items, never a ghost pops up, we go, come on, come on, come on. It never happens. That's great. Just during this time. The game looks great and the voice acting was pretty solid. If not a bit odd.

How were the graphics? Because from some screens, they looked just quite fantastic. Character models are super high poly environments are not quite as good, but they make up for that because it's super dark. And there were some really good scary moments. Do you remember that one where, yeah, we had this one where like it was kind of a situation that you're all right, I've done this before, then a twist kind of, and you're just like, oh, okay, that's cool.

I can never, you can never rest really. I really want to play it, but I've no space on my Wii U and I don't want to buy a hard drive. So delete something on your Wii U. Maybe I'll move to Europe. Maybe that's the cheapest solution. Why not delete something on your Wii U? Because the only thing I have is patches and DLC from Nintendo and that fills up enough

space that I can. Dude, that's me with the fucking Vita TV, man. Yeah, we just had that happen. Every time I want, I'm like, do you want to look at this JPEG? Delete a game. I'll give you an answer. Persona's got a goat. You can buy a new memory card.

You can buy a new memory card, I guess so. Yeah, here's my advice. As someone who's done that, here's my advice, don't do that. The prices are absurd for this one. Oh, they're high, for sure, but like, live with your annoyance. I'll view my JPEG elsewhere. Yeah, speaking of the Vita, Liam's already kind of pre-smiling that I've been actually using it because I downloaded Prince of Persia at the Forgotten Sands, which was a brand

new Prince of Persia game I did not know existed. So because we were talking about it the other week, I downloaded it as well. And that game, go ahead. So the thing with the Forgotten Sands trilogy is that the 360 game is completely different from the Wii game, the DS game is completely different from all those, and the PSP game is a straight up 2.5D left to right Prince of Persia game, but with cool sands of time style, mechanics, and story, it's a really good marriage of both styles. It's what you wanted, Assassin's Creed Chronicles, trying it to be minus the assassinations.

And this is the one that nobody really paid any attention to, so what's it exactly called? The Forgotten Sands for the PSP, because the 360 version, that was the one they pushed where we can have 50 enemies on screen, mobs, like Dynasty Warriors, and that game's good too. It's fine. It's super easy. It's super easy, only in the last hour where you get all your combined powers and then you actually have to do some actual skill-based platforming.

Are you Jake Gyllenhaal? They do this weird thing where they modeled the Prince and the Forgotten Sands a little after the war within style, but also sands of time, so he's not really Jake Gyllenhaal. He's got like normal clothes, but he's still got like the weird eye shadow thing going on. This actor's definitely not Jake Gyllenhaal. It's Yuri Lowenthal for the Forgotten Sands. So I'm really enjoying that, I'm almost done it actually. I finished it last night, it's super salt.

It's only like four hours long about, it's really tight, and it has a really good difficulty curve. I don't know if you've gotten there, but it starts getting pretty tough towards the end. The last levels are hard. And the last two things I played really quickly, I told Liam, I got Pursuit Force on the PSP, and the only thing I'll say about Pursuit Force is that it's a crazy vehicle jumping to things. Jump on top of that car.

Yeah, but you know, the meter that governs a lot of actions, now in most games that we play that have some type of meter governing cool actions, what's it usually called? Focus. Focus or style. Style. Yeah. Style meter. Boost.

This is called the Justice Meter. The Justice Meter. Nice. And you have to fill up the Justice Meter, and then you go into a Berserker Justice Mode, and you just do more damage. For justice. For justice. And I'm like, all right, Pursuit Force, I will not delete you.

Let the rage of the NYPD guide you. Guide you. And I booted up. I feel like James Small's hand is guiding that choice. It seems like he was a part of the development. I feel like he was somewhere involved. He padded someone on the butt to keep going. Yeah.

The last thing I played, not much to say about it, is Adventure Time, Finn and Jake investigations. Oh no. I can tell just from the tone of your voice. Lay it on. Another PSP game. All right. Because there's a lot of PSP push. This is the PS3 game.

An Xbox One, PS4 game, and not much to say about it other than it's not funny at all. The writing is not done by writers of the show. Lightly now. I noticed that you didn't come on and grab your friends. I did not bring anyone over to look at this, because the mechanics of the game are sound. Just walk over there and investigate this as an adventure game, but then I want more flavor text out of this item that we're looking at. This crazy item.

There's a skull and a wall. Jake, what do you have to say? Oh, yeah. All right. Press it again. Look at that. And then you go over to an oven and then you say, Finn, what is this? And he goes, ah, I shouldn't touch that.

That's hot. All right. Isn't it telling when the best looking Adventure Time game type thing we saw was that thing that wasn't an Adventure Time game? It was just Jake and Finn guest starring in what was like an iPad game of some kind. We saw it at PAX upstairs. The Zelda one was pretty good. We didn't know what exactly it was.

Adventure the... Explore the dungeon because I didn't know. No, no, no. The Nameless Kingdom. The Nameless Kingdom. It's the best Adventure Time game so far that I've played personally. Even that one, like the writing's not by... It's clearly not by the core team, but there's some sensible chocolate for that.

Writing is better than this. Another one or two bad games, and it's going to be like SpongeBob status. Also, Finn and Jake Investigations has Batman Arkham Combat. Shut up. No. Does it work well at least? Not really. No.

But it has it. It has it. You get into battle mode, and it says keep doing combos left and right, and then unleash your super attacks. Unleash the rage of the NYPD. Unleash the rage of John DiBeggio. Is your power... Did you get super power?

Did you hit people with your like-like sweater? Jake rolls into a big ball and just spins his fists. So just take an established thing that works and just put the IP on top of it. Why are we going to get the bad Rick and Morty game? Adventure Time Moosa. What are we going to get our bad Rick and Morty game? That feels like a bad Rick and Morty game would actually be good. It feels like they'd rather be parts of other games.

They'd rather guest star where they shouldn't be, than actually make their own game. Can we just get people to mod the Telltale back to the future game with just Rick and Morty voice calls? I forget the guy in Assassin's Creed III. But I talked about Kenway. No. No. I didn't hate them Kenway. I didn't hate them. I couldn't remember hate them. I remembered him.

I felt like since Ezio, they haven't really had a good old tag. Edward's fine. Any game, any Assassin's Creed game that you beat, it's like you've spent so many hours with this thing, you're going to remember. So I don't know, I completely forgot his name. But anyway, point is, these two characters, the Fry Twins. Evie and Jacob. They made a really smart decision by making one really bad, annoying character so that

the other character looks awesome in comparison. They play off each other. Jacob's not annoying. Jacob sucks. He's a total meathead. He's great. I can't stand him. But I like that.

I have played the entire game as Evie so far. Well, you've played two chapters of eight, right? No, three. Three? Okay, yeah. And the only time I've ever played as him is the missions that forced me to play as him. He's so stupid.

He is stupid. So dumb. But yeah, no. That doesn't make him bad. He's cool. He's a hoodie. He's part of the order. He's like, we get to the new town and he's like, we're going to make a gang called the

Rooks. And Evie's like... You're an idiot. What? Stop. And then he just does it anyway. And he's just got a gang. That being said, Evie does feel more like the main character.

Evie's great. Like the assassin. Evie could carry the game, but I prefer having two characters to play off each other. She even gives her more classic assassin clothes as well. Initially, definitely. So why is the formula not bogging you down? Well, for one thing, that grappling hook is absurd. Grappling hook's amazing.

You know when you want to go to a sink point and it takes 30 seconds to a minute to get up there? Yeah. It takes five seconds now. Okay. So I showed Matt... I couldn't believe it. Like, hey, here's Big Ben.

And I hit L1 and she hits the top of Big Ben in 10 seconds. I spent the rest of my day picking the jaw off the floor. The best bit about it is they don't just like zip to the top. They like scale it and they bounce off certain points. They like repel. It looks great. It looks really good. And then you get to the top of Big Ben and you're like, I want to go over there and then

you point at a ledge and you zip over there. So the entire climbing is now not a thing. It's still a thing. It's like, I want to go in that window. But if you're fleeing from somebody, you don't ever really have to like climb a surface and get away from them. You can just... Could you avoid equipping or getting the grab?

No, it's spilt in. Are there sound clips of dead yellow? SSE? No. When you run by? There's new ones. Yeah. There's new ones.

And they're character specific to Evie and Jacob and they'll say different things depending on who's doing shit. So I don't know. Look at that bed. It's just in Unity. So Liam, let me know if they... Jog on, mate. Jog on.

But there's a lot more like side activities that are like kill everybody silently in a stealthy way. Yeah. And now the game actually has a stealth button and stealth mechanics. In Unity, that was where they introduced all the stealth mechanics and stuff and they worked great. Well, I feel like light matter yet. No, but it's baby stealth.

Assassin's Creed is always good at baby stealth because like... Because after Thief and now Metal Gear and stuff, it's like you've had different entries into the stealth genre that you might... Yeah. And it's always like you go back to Assassin's Creed and you go, oh yeah, it doesn't matter. It's baby stealth. Well, here's the thing though is now it's like the combat's like Batman kind of thing, right? But now the stealth is like Batman because after you jump off a roof and kill a guy,

you hit L1 and go right back to the top of the roof and scope out where the rest of the guys are like just like going back up under the gargoyles kind of thing. Yeah, okay. Is the trade off, I guess, that they can shoot you more frequently if they see you? No, some characters can shoot you. Pretty much everyone has a gun in this game. But some of them... Like almost every enemy can shoot you.

There's like the rifle type character that is actually the lookout that will actually just see you and shoot you. And then the other characters use them as like, oh, you're in combat, but that person's four feet away from you. Just outside that ring around you where fights happen. Yeah. There's a certain point in history where the Arkham Slash Assassin-style group battle of you killing like a surrounded group...surrounded by like 12 guys, you kill them all with melee.

Now. Doesn't work because dudes have smaller, faster guns. Luckily, in this era, the assassins have gained spider sense and have the ability to dodge bullets. Well, what it is is like they see them pull the gun out and you get a triangle prompt and hit triangle. Dodge the bullet. Dodge and counter with your own.

So sometimes you don't...sometimes I don't counter with, but like when you're running, they will straight up like headset bullets and it's like, okay, whatever, they can just dodge bullets now. Like it seems crazy, but it makes it fun because it was never fun in the Assassin's Creed games to be running away and just get hit for a time. Assassin's Creed 3 had that cool body shield mechanic, but most of the time it's suck. So you're going to get the experience of going straight from a black flag to this without unity.

I played maybe an hour or two of the video. Okay. Because I was going to say like, yeah, there's got to be a mechanic. Unity felt bad to touch. Like the controls and the frame rate and the general feel was just like, yeah, this game runs really well. It doesn't run quite as good as black flag, but it looks a lot better than black flag. And it'll drop maybe once an hour when I'm playing and it's when I come down off a roof

into the middle of a street with lots of carriages and stuff like that. Yeah. Like it plays better than any of the old good games played on 360. I don't understand this franchise. Well, they saw the backlash for Unity and they addressed everything really well. But is this now the pace? Is it Windows now or just? Windows?

Oh, every other version? Maybe. Who knows? You got rogue last year or something. What happens? Right now, like the mission design is actually much better. I haven't had a single tail mission, for example. Yeah, I've had like one, but that's it.

I really hope there's a level where you talk to a guy named like Dr. Jekyll and you're like, hey, drink this. So you... Yeah. That'll be... What? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, I'm sorry, I didn't know.

I did a mission that was the Fleet Street investigation. Oh, yeah. Okay, okay. They're like, it's really fun, actually. But I know that every assassin has shaped the modern art. And you go around with Arthur Conan Doyle and like you see all of his fake book origins and Karl Marx is there and he does stuff too. Like in no other franchise do you have the statement, I thought I was getting out of

the game, but you keep pulling me back in like literally every other game. Again, Liam, I'll defer to you on this because you played Unity for real. The combat is way improved. Like I don't use the same basic button layout as Unity, which is dodge, guard, break and attack. But the changes they've made in which like the way that guys go into near death states when their health is low and you can get upgrades to put multiple guys in your death states, you can finally actually control if you do double or multi kills by getting

multiple guys into near death states next to each other and they're hitting them. Also the introduction of like, how do I put this? Wall combos is my favorite thing in the combat. It's purely a visual change. But if you're beating some guys ass right next to a wall lamp or no, no, no, no, no. You're beating their ass next to a wall. What your character will do is grab them by the shoulder and turn them towards the wall and push them.

So they kind of like their shoulders at the wall and they kind of and they're like, oh, and then you will start to combo them and your combos will be bouncing them off the wall. Unique set of animations for beating their ass to the wall and the kill animations against the wall are the longest and meanest I have ever seen. They say that every year. No, like you have a sword cane like Evie will knock them out and then back up like six feet from the wall and throw knives at them and pin them to the wall and then go back

and start kicking their ass when they're into the wall. It's like 10 seconds long. The speed of the combat and the three weapons, which are like fists, cane and kukri like a short knife are fantastic. It has a totally different feel. There's no long swords, no spears. If I was going to make a recommendation to people, I would tell them that let like let play Evie with her cane and play Jacob with his fists to make them feel more different.

I switched Evie to a kukri because it's just I switch between the kukri and the staff depending on which one is stronger at the time. But I'm never going to give her the fists. I think the three weapons should be like a copy of FIFA, a flake bar and a beer, a flake bar. Just a crumbles and someone's like, wait, let me get some of this flakey right now. Wait, I need to attack with that still. Yeah, yeah.

And a Manchester U. A Manchester U. While I remember disparaging the shit out of it like years ago when it was first floated, my grimy ass Victorian England is actually a pretty good setting because it's horrible. It's the worst place that ever was in all of history. I remember years ago we had said like, oh, it was when the order was coming out. So mechanics aside, now you have what I need, which is Assassin's Creed plot, Assassin's Creed like story set.

Assassin's Star goes shit. What did I tell you? You asked me about the future thing. I asked you who you are playing in the future is and Liam went, I don't know. And I played it and I'm like, oh, oh, they want to run away from that hard. Well, because now Unity onwards and actually including Liberation was the first one that did it. You just play as a guy enjoying the absurd, or just a guy enjoying the absurd or whatever

system. So what is the real world element of Unity? Who gives a shit? But what is it actually? You're playing the video game. Is there any first person moments at all or is it just Unity? That was only in four. That was really only in four and it was terrible and everything since the first game in the

future has been terrible. Is there a boot sequence? Yeah, there's a boot sequence. They start up the Abstergo Entertainment System and then the Assassins hack it and you're like, stop. I don't want the guys on the screen anymore. You're working for us now and your character ostensibly says, okay, they don't speak. Dude, like when they started hacking it, I was like, don't do this.

Well, is it the same guys? It's Sean and what's Erebekah? Sean Hastings and Rebekah Crane are now the main characters of Assassin's Creed. And they're in there and they're bombing stuff and they're diving off buildings. It's so pointless and stupid if they had just made Assassin's Creed from the start. Here are time periods, go, compelling story within that time period. I never had a problem with Becca. I think she's fine.

She's great. She's the best character. But yeah. Call of Duty doesn't matter, right? Every year it's a different story. It doesn't really matter. And in this, it's just because of the future shit, you can't, no, but what I mean is that you can't continue Desmond anymore because it's ridiculous.

Desmond's dead. Yeah. That's what I'm meaning. In four, I don't know if you remember this, but that did have a subplot in the modern world about Minerva and Minerva continues to exist. Yes. And the fact that they keep doing these VR, Sam, like, look, the modern era still exists. No, it's still there.

They clearly intend to go back to that one day, but also it seems clear that that plan is not actually on paper. They just want to leave it open. Because syndicate's the worst with it. You get a 30 second cutscene maybe. I've liked the game for like 10 hours. I still haven't seen a second cutscene. Because I know the answer is it doesn't matter, but I still, it's like, it's so weird to release

a game that just has nothing. It's there, but it's less present than ever. Which is great. Yeah. Okay. I just like, what was the point at all? The hinge of your franchise. It was the hinge of the franchise.

Remember when Kristen Bell spoiled the whole thing? Yeah. I brought that up. I always bring that up. I never let that go. Do you remember before she spoiled the whole thing, someone else spoiled the whole thing? No. I didn't know about that until I read her.

The day that game was announced at E30, a guy on the floor giving the demo just told someone that it was all like in the matrix and the future stuff. And people went, what? That's crazy. And then like, you never saw it again and it got swept out into the rug until Kristen Bell did it. Until Kristen Bell did it. But like day one, that game was spoiled.

Yeah. I guess I like, I understand that it was like poorly executed over the years. What? It would still be super weird to just completely pretend it never happened. I don't even think Rogue, I think Rogue is the same thing. It's got like 30 seconds. I really liked how Ford did it, honestly. I like the stupid gimmick of being a beta tester for a video game.

I like that it's already weird that you're saying that it's worth checking back in until the franchise. If you, if you, like I view Assassin's Creed as like my AAA junk food and I like to run around the map and collect the things. You like to check the boxes? I like to check the boxes. I want to see my, your character level's up now, which is totally superfluous. Like, like, oh, there's a skill tree and you can kind of like, which ones you get first,

but you're going to get them all. So the two characters have different skills, but they, the different skills, there's only three out of like 28 that are different and they're all the way at the end of the trees and the way the trees work is it costs more level up points the farther down you go. So they're not going to be different for me because I like to keep them the same because they would do both the same things. Like at the very end of the game, Eevee will be able to turn invisible and Jacob will be slightly better.

I'm at memory whatever five and they're capped out. Oh, really? So not the end of the game. So does that just replace like getting better weapons and staying? No, you still have to stop the gear honestly. You have the improved gear system from you from Unity where like it's just a lot more detailed and you can honestly individual piece of gear. I really just like that much improved that that gear that that inventory screen.

is so complicated. Okay, but how do I craft bombs though? Tell me more about crafting bombs. No, there is you can upgrade your bombs. Yeah, you can upgrade them, but it's just you bought a different bomb. If you if you feel like talking about in Revelation, I know I remember if I'm talking about Assassin's Creed bomb craft, if you have that bomb orations to play that kind of game, you generate those boxes and run around open world, then this is one that when you get it, you'll be happy

with it because it's going to do what you want. It's not setting the world on fire and it's not saving the franchise, but it's good. I think skipping one regardless of how how good or bad it is, it always refreshes you a little bit. Now that it's not saving the franchise, but it is no, it just sold the worst of anything but it ties with Black Friday. The fact that you're telling people, including us and anyone listening to this, that they should probably play Syndicate is saving the franchise.

There's a difference between like a blank and endorsement of like Brotherhood, where I was like everyone should go play Brotherhood, that game's amazing, and me saying if you like Assassin's Creed games and still have one in the tank, this one's a good one. I think there's a difference. I like this one better than Brotherhood. I really like it better. I bet I can get there. I would never because I love Brotherhood's multiplayer.

I need to unlock more fighty missions. I don't get to fight enough as of right now because the groups that roam the streets are three guys and like you kill three guys in one second. Go to Westminster where the level nine enemies are. I don't think I have one left in the tank, but if you're saying, I don't think I do, but if you're saying I do. I have more faith in you than you do. I cared a lot about Assassin's Creed the most about Assassin's Creed.

Probably the biggest weirdo bummer is like now that the overarching story longer matters, feel free to skip one or two at any time because, and Liam, you said something really interesting. You said that every game gets to have one new movement option. Yeah, I was thinking about it and it's like, you know, the core formula is like it's climbing and assassinating, right? And I feel like, I feel like somewhere there's a paper, some sort of mandate out there that's like, okay, when you get to make an Assassin's Creed game, you get to break a couple of those

a little bit, but not too much. And it's like the game after this is in a tough position where it has to be able to match up to what the grappling hook had. And I'm thinking about it and like Unity and Brotherhood, yeah, Unity and Brotherhood had the parachute and that let you skip the whole going down section. And Revelation 10's game lets you skip the going up. The ziplines, which works like the grappling game. If you had a game that had the hook and had the grapple hook and had the parachute, you

would just entirely skip the movement. How about, it would be just cause, so there must be some sort of mandate somewhere in Ubisoft that's like, you get to break an element of it. And Black Flag didn't have any of those, but instead most of your movement in that game was on a boat. How about the next game you just play as equipment? Or just a bladed parachute that can shoot ziplines. Honestly, most of the time I feel like that's what the game is.

I'm a knife attached to a grappling hook. Aside from a cutscene and you know. Please report in when Final Boss Andros D'Borgia shows up. And for an epic, for an epic, for an epic, I have heard that this game's ending in Final Boss is like the worst. I heard the last boss is bad too. I thought the first boss, and it was fine, Unity has the best mid-game boss. I remember you telling us about that.

Or like the best Assassin's Creed boss halfway through the game. But you say that, but when I think about it. I'm never going to play it, so skip forward two minutes if you don't want to hear this. You fight the guy who trained your character all through his life, and you fight him on the side of, fuck what's that building in France, anyway. You fight him on the side of this gorgeous church. Notre Dame. Notre Dame.

You fight him on the side of that, and it's raining, and the cameras pulled that back at a cinematic angle. So it's side view? No, like up, it looks really good. And it's got the bullshit graphics that Unity has that they actually had to cut back for Syndicate. Oh yeah, it's very clear. Syndicate's a worse looking game than Unity.

Okay. Clearly. But it runs well. It runs great. So no problems there. So it's an evanescence music video battle. Yeah, that's why Brotherhood was better looking. It ran like shit, and Revelations didn't look like they had better, it's art, and it's

aesthetic, and it's town were shit here, but it ran way better to me. Yeah, all I played was Syndicate, so I'll pass it on to Lee, and you can move into whatever you want. Yeah, one last thing on Syndicate. I played Unity a lot, and one of the things I hated about Unity, it was a very vocal complaint that a lot of people had. The British accents. No.

It was the social chests and shit. Oh yeah. In Unity, there was a huge multiplayer suite in Unity. A lot of missions, you could play four player co-op, and it was actually really fun. I hate co-op, but it's actually really good. Multiplayer is completely removed, and for the social shit, they've paired it down very well. So in Unity, there were these chests where you had to be connected to the Assassin's

Creed Initiates program on Ubisoft, and you leveled up in that program by playing a variety of Assassin's Creed games. So in Unity, you'd be able to open the level one chest, and you'd eventually level three chest. But you did a level nine chest, and how do you open a level nine chest? You beat two other Assassin's Creed games, like, fuck that. In Black Flag, the social chests were... Oh, those existed in Black Flag?

But they were literally just chests that would appear when you were connected to the internet. Yeah, that's what it was. If you found one, it would ping on people and your friends. Oh, that's fine. That's funny. And they were whales you could hunt, and special boats you could crash. Oh, that's cool.

Like, sometimes they were tough boats, but you could fuck them up. Man, those shark and whale fights were awesome. And in Unity, the other ones, they had like a mobile game, and there were these chests in the game. Sorry, those super boats were bullshit, though. I'd be all... Because they would fucking... They would turn, like, Dark Souls bosses.

Those super boats were SNK bosses in boat form, because they didn't follow the rules of the boat combat. Why does that boat have an over-tracking... They would straight up cheat. They would make turns and speeds that were impossible. They would shoot from distances in which you could barely see them. They would kill you on one ram. That's awesome.

It had tracking overheads. Yeah. They literally would turn on the spot. They would stop moving and rotate towards you. How did this boat cross me up? I remember there was one that had, like, a border that the border would, like, change direction to follow your boat. Wow.

That was super nuts. Beat all of them. Congrats. That was awesome. It's good for your Assassin's Creed Initiates level, which you don't have to worry about anymore. Yeah, because since I beat all of the Black Flag stuff, I will, by the end of Unity, have enough special Assassin's Creed points to get, like, a CEO's shirt.

I really wish they would release Rogue on PS4 and PS5 and Xbox One, and just make it run better. It doesn't even have to look great to make it run even better. Just make the movie for all the games you didn't play. Just make a movie. The other one was they had, like, a mobile game thing that was a generic mobile game. It was kind of fun at the beginning, but towards the end it became the grind, you know. And that was connected to Unity as well, and there were chests you could only open if you

done certain things in the mobile game. And that was Dreck, and they've just completely chopped those out completely, and now there's just very rarely you'll get notified, like, hey, a Helix thing has appeared on the map, and it'll say you have six hours to go collect it if you want. And then if you collect it, it pings out to people and your friends? Well, you collect it, and what it is, is it's the free-to-play box that you normally have to pay money for. You get a couple free ones, and then all your friends get paid to get one as well.

So it looks like they're using this, and I don't know if they've rolled it out completely, but I saw a bunch of stories for all the new social marketing groups they have set up. So they've got the Assassin's Creed Brotherhood Forum thing, where you join and you get your initiate points, and all that stuff you're talking about. I'm pretty sure all that thing's, everything's been pretty much trashed. It feels like it's all been rolled into the club. Yeah. Okay.

Yeah. Okay, because there was an announcement for this new forum thing a couple weeks ago, and then they, yeah. The club encompasses two-point levels, and it's also stretching Uplay, and it's the console version of Uplay rebranded, and they've just rolled up a bunch of shit. Yeah. And it incorporates two-point system, one, which is your Uplay points that you get from specific achievements, and the second one is what appears to be your initiate points,

which is a much larger achievement thing for specific series. So I currently have- You've done this much in Assassin's Creed games. Like Assassin's Creed has Black Flag, Unity, and Syndicate popped in with. And China. And each game only gives, like, 3,500 per or something. I don't remember. What's the aggregate?

But what about my Erudito coin? To get, like, a Tio costume in Syndicate, you need 7,200 points, which is more than any one game has. Damn. So... I don't think so. Yeah. Well, I think you can just spend Uplay points.

Yeah, no, but I mean, to get it just for free without spending any points, you need to have beaten at least one Assassin's Creed game, and then Syndicate. That's so stupid. I'd say it would be like a skeleton in a costume, because it's so basic. Yeah. Yeah, it's true. Just one final point on Assassin's Creed. The reason why I think it's such a shame all the story stuff is just kind of jettisoned

is remember how excited you were when you were about to learn the truth. In Assassin's Creed 2. Remember that? Remember the truth? I don't remember everything about everything. And that's just like, fuck all that now, that's all we had in the tank. And the action. But it was the most exciting thing ever, to let the truth, and then it was just-

And the truth was actually pretty interesting. I don't know how well you remember it, but that was great and true, and it was amazing in Brotherhood, and it all fell apart in Revelations when you got to finally meet Subject 16. And he talks, and he blurs you. And he talks, and you're just like, oh, I don't want it. Go back to me not knowing. Then the whole yearly annual thing just ruins any chance of a story ever appearing again, I think, unless they're working towards a big mega one like Pataloo.

Well, it's just because they pulled a heat style middle of the movie ending, where it's like, and this is the end of Desmond's story, or would be, except now we go, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Well, you know, it's only ever going to appear in a core Ubisoft Montreal game, because it always- It's what Syndicate's made primarily about Ubisoft Quebec, is that right? Yeah, exactly. Which, other than that, is the developer of Forgotten Sands.

Yes, it is. No, they're consistent, across years. I'm sure it's looking back on it, too. Like, AC3 was the one that was evolutionary, and then AC4 wasn't. It was just a side thing, and the Rogue was just a side thing. And then Unity was really evolutionary, busted, but revolutionary. And then Syndicate's just another side thing built up. Assassin's Creed has gone from the great new hope for video games to please wait for the

reviews. It might be an idea. Yeah, it goes a good year, but it might be a bad one. Like, I feel towards Assassin's Creed how some people might feel towards sports games. Yeah, I agree. Is Madden good this year? Do you see it, like, NBA Live sold, like, 8,000 units? Yeah, that's what it is.

And then Vince just miraculously dies on a car crash like immediately after that. Thank you, Jesus. Because they can't have a combat engine in the NBA. So then you and your sister are just, are just joshing around being like, man, isn't it crazy how that stuff happened, isn't it?

By the way, it's all just terribly written apparently. Just add that in. It's crazy, man. Vince is dead. Oh man. Oh wow, that's life, man. That's, that's, that's for real. That's the game.

And then they leave and then Vince comes out on the court and like all white and he's a ghost from heaven. And he takes out a piece of paper and reads this huge monologue about how the game story was really about him and his life choices and how he got here. And all like, oh fuck. Wait, is this the new Assassin's Creed? Yeah, yeah. I highly, I highly, the way Alex Navarro describes it.

White people. It's like this black people. Like that. See black guys, they drive a car like this. The way, the way Navarro describes it is like a, like a shitty place. Spike Lee wrote 30 years ago that never got off the ground. Amazing. Lots of long monologues.

And the last one I played was Hearts R, which was, it was really generic, but it was fine. It was good. Like I liked it. No. No. That was a Tales game. Zestiria is fucking bad. Yeah.

It's like. Fuck went wrong with this game. It's like. The current one. I've only played four or five Tales games, but what the hell happened? Is it one of the situations where you start to play and you're like right away, like what the hell? Dude, until you get your fifth party member, there's no rational reason for any conflict within the party. Nice.

And there's a bit of stupid bullshit character drama just to make the two main characters fight. How do you screw up Tales writing? The worse? No, because it's exactly like Assassin's Creed. Is this a good year? It's the same thing. It's good years. It's the Assassin's Creed of Japan.

Because Symphonia. Strike formula. Muso. It's like good year back here in Japan. Symphonia and Abyss. Symphonia and Abyss, fine, completely good for the time that they came out. And then there's this one that I hate with a passion, which is Legendia, which is on the PS2. And it's a 2D thing.

And the shame of this game is that its character designer is a guy that, like Jesus, designed, did the illustrations for Samurai Champloo. Okay, yeah. The design of that, right? Because Mugen and Jin are in that game with different hair colors. And they look good and it's the worst cast of any JRPG I've ever seen where they hate each other. That's for no reason. No one gets along, but there's no reason for them not to get along.

I don't like you. Right. I finished that game because I felt compelled to because I might want to see these idiots suffer. And then the 360 one. Vesperia. Vesperia is considered good. Well, they had a huge budget because Microsoft was like just make whatever.

And there's a character named after you. You're low in thought. So that's a good one. And after that, the other couple. It was Zilean. I didn't play those. Zilean, I didn't play those. All of those could be shit for all of them.

Zilean too. Exactly. Yeah, I'm playing it. And it's like, I was really excited for it. So like, oh, I'll give it a go. It's open world. It's a bit different this time. Let's see.

They're like, they're really pushing it with open world. It's the same level design as any tales game. Except, you know how normally you get to the world map and you're just a giant representation of this character? Instead of that, just the map is to scale with you. Effectively. Like it's, it doesn't have any of the traits of an open world game. Like there's, you can't just go there and do like a side mission or something.

It's still effectively just hallways and the world is still a dungeon. And there's tons of, oh man. The other thing I heard good about is that its combat is pretty good. The combat's boring, I find. Even the like exciting mechanic where you like merge with certain characters is like, it's not satisfying, I find. And it's a shame because I like the idea of the plot with the, oh fuck, what's it called? Sounds very memorable.

Zestria. Zestria. Zestria. Is that an object? No. Do they give it a name? Not so far. Is it ever a thing that exists in any Tales of Destiny?

Tales of Hearts was like, is really close to what's a thing in the game. There's a thing. Destiny is a thing. Do you find out what a Legendia is, ever? Legendia is just the name of the client though. Yes. But I'm really not enjoying the game. I looked it up apparently.

I'm like a fifth of the way through the game. Time to start. And that was why I said, let me try Assassin's Creed because it can't get worse from here. So thank God I played that game. So you had a good set up. Yeah, a good set up, exactly. So you just ate junk food all week. And yeah, I plowed through the Forgotten Sand, which was like bargain caviar.

Bargain caviar. Bargain caviar. I like that. It was good. Exactly, exactly. That game's good. I think you'd like it, Willie. It's super solid.

Again, it's like Assassin's Creed Chronicles minus the Assassin bit. The combat is also not great, but it's not bad. The combat's got a lot of cool stuff going on. Did you know you can jump on the wall and do like Vega die across the stage? No, I just unlocked that. This Prince of Persia lets you select your moves and level them up and you just need to get like some extra things. It's not digital though, right? Yeah, it is.

On Vita. Yeah. Good. I also downloaded Revelations. And Rival Swords, I bet. No, I did not. Revelations is just, for Willie, you don't know, it's just warrior within with extra levels. Sure.

It's more. Revelations plus. Anyway, I digress. But that's it. I'm still playing Corpse Party, but I'm only like halfway through, so nothing new to say. Don't say it. There's bits where monsters chase you and like the frame rate hiccups give you more time to think about where you need to go. So it's kind of handy.

Don't really get what I'm about to say because I knew it was coming. It's pretty funny. Say it anyway. Come on. No, it's time. What about you, Wolvesman? So actually, I'm going to start my week with a little PSA. What?

If you are downloading this on iTunes or if you don't see the iTunes version, it's because there's some weird things going on in Apple and they're taking longer than usual to update their podcast listings. So we have no control over that. This happened last week, right? This happened last week and it made me go through two variations of the podcast. We're had to edit out what I thought might have been copyrighted. The song at the end. The beginning of the song might have been recognized or something would have been a problem.

So I edited that and then tried again. And no, it was just them being so... So it's on their end. Yeah. Okay. Blame Tim Cook. Yeah, it got up eventually, but it took half a week for it to get up there. It's not great.

Yeah, not great. It happens to every podcast now and then. And it hurts the people like hurting it right away. No, it hurts that. So that sucks. No, I finished off True Detective Season 1 finally, which means I finished off the series. Yeah, yeah, yeah. As far as I can tell.

Pizza Man never wrote anything again. Why would you put a sequel on an ending like that? Why? Well, the sequel is totally separate. Totally separate. Thank God. Enable it. Thank God.

And that means that since Season 2 is bad and you don't have to watch it, if Season 3 is good, there's no problem. There's no problem. Perfect. Perfect. All right. So it could be like the docs, basically. That's fine.

Right now, I'm still in my head over the amount of literary references and crazy shit they get into over the course of their show. A lot of very subtle HP Lovecraft hints. The Yellow King is HP Lovecraft. Exactly. Carcosa. I wish they pushed it even harder. Not a lot, but I wish it was a little bit more.

A little bit more. And I think anything is to be honest, like going back now, because I avoided all discussion while it was happening, of course, but during the course of the show, before anyone knew what the ending was, people were all thinking it was going in that direction. I was on message boards diving deep into nonsense theories. We're waiting for like the fucking hard swerve on the steering wheel into the unknowable horror. And it only skirts the edges of the beach. Which is perfect.

It's perfect. It's fantastic. Because it might be there. It's unclear as to whether or not that was there. But I do think there should have been a nine-episode season instead of an eight-episode season, just to give more time. I thought it was time. It was eight.

Was it early eight? Eight. It was time to the closing of the case. Yeah, they blow through that case. Yeah, because there's a reveal, and then it's like, then they go from reveal to fucking wrap it up, wrap that shit up, we gotta go in less than an hour. There's like five episodes of set up and half an episode of closing. And the set up is all like, you're way more on the edge of your seat for the set up than

you are for the closing moments. Because, again, you're expecting the horror. Well, the mystery is always more interesting than the reveal. Yes, exactly. And there's the one moment of what the fuck was that about that happens in that finale that I was really, I'm glad they chose to show you that. Because it's probably one of the most interesting things about any of the characters in the show.

Is that weird moment of, this doesn't look real? Yeah. If you go back, there's more of those than you probably thought. Oh, I did. And I did find them. Yeah. And then I went back to go to find all the hidden things that you didn't pay attention to. Oh my God, it's late.

The birds are the best ones. The birds is fantastic. And just the names of some of the people that work in different buildings as well are clues towards them. Yeah, good stuff. So, goddamn, that's a fucking solid show. Going on on a limb recommending True Detective is a good show, says Willie. Like, the second season.

Controversial statements. Right. The second season has none of that. Like, there's no going back. It's just dry cop who got it. As far as I know, I watched two episodes and I was like, this seems alright, but I didn't continue it. And then as the season rolled on, I see people going, and I remember, I told you a few podcasts

I need to give special shout outs to the video on the Yellow King theory, which discusses one of the, you know, believable things, putting things together, is if you go back and look at the footage, you can see a man in a Yellow King outfit standing right here in the background. I forgot what exactly that was, but I think that video went up, like, simultaneous to the final episode airing. So people were just running to accept, oh, just tell me what it is. There were clips from the final episode in that. And like, the best. Here at the police station. There's a man in a Yellow King outfit. Just walking in the background.

In the background. Could this man be the Yellow King? And, of course, what the fuck did I do? Alright, let's get into it. Alright, so Street Fighter 5 Beta. That was all week, every week. I want to get, I didn't get a chance to play it when this happened, but I want to give big ups to whoever at Capcom decided to hit the switch last day.

Turn on every character. All the warriors, except Geeth and Laura. Fair. All the warriors. They're probably not finished. That beta was a ride. And what a crazy roller coaster of emotions. It was really fun.

And like, when I was done, when I had my session and then I stopped for a bit, you then jump on the streams and see what people are twitching. So I think the best part of that beta was the weird expectations going in. Because I went in. It's like, well, this beta has to be better than the last beta, right? Because if it's not, right? It went up like a day early for most of the day. But you couldn't get any matches.

And I was like, that's fine, right? You know, it's up early. This is the pre-test. And then it went up. Still couldn't get any matches that very first day. And I was like, oh. The early day. I played, no, no, the first day proper.

Zero matches. And I was like, oh, that's weird. Maybe it's my NAT settings. I played training mode and everybody was available. Go check out Max's stream. And Max basically has his feet up. And he's like, yeah, so talk to somebody at Capcom. And this is as good as it's going to get.

Maybe one match every four hours. And before that had happened, I told you I saw an article in Destructoid where Destructoid pulled something from a Capcom place. It's not going to get any better than that. Yeah, it's like, well, something's bad. And this is what you're going to get the whole weekend. I was like, oh, boy, that's disappointing. So I got on that day one night and I was having a match every 10 minutes or so.

That's lucky. That's freakish. Nobody else was having that experience. It wasn't that bad for me. And then I woke up on the second day and all of a sudden it's like, they fixed it. It's totally fine. Getting constant matches. So it was the reveal of the SFV server Twitter was where you wanted to be all weekend.

It's always that way. You want to be refreshing that to see what they're saying and what's going on. Where the poor's the party at. Party over here. So, yeah. And then the also the cool reveal where you can plug in a second controller to do playbook training mode with a partner. And bullshit, bullshit.

Put the light bars on and actually have a little weird versus mode. Exactly. Weird versus mode. So, Pat, expectations and results. Okay. On what particular aspect? Do you want to go categories here? Just general.

I'm going general and then I'm going to get into characters. Gains good. Shocker. Gains super good. Karen's buttons feel broken in their goodness. We were talking about this. Her standing medium kick is probably the best medium kick ever. When you say like, oh, a character has an answer to everything.

Like I tweeted out, her buttons have the answer to life, the universe and everything. It's the best. She has nothing but answers. Like her fucking normals are so good. Her feature is not that great. Her eight box is accurate to her model. Yeah. What it seems to be.

Her bad normals and good normals is like Nakali, his jab. The fist part of his jab goes through the opponent. It's the worst. Yeah. Armika, it's taken me a lot of time to get used to the fact that throws are not instant in this game. So, hold on. Before getting into character specifics, like I'm talking system generally.

Oh, okay. A lot of that stuff. Netcode is already better than fours. Right. Clearly. Yes. And you know they're using rollback because when I'm playing a bad match from Australia, boy, oh boy, that's a teleporting cast.

So, rollbacks are hilarious in that they're the way to go. Liam or Matt, did you guys get any time in? I opted not to play it. Oh, really? I was playing other stuff. Okay. So, there was just to figure out. Yeah, no.

Just like. Like, when beta is like, I could have gotten into the Doom multiplayer beta, but I'm like, because I bought Wolfenstein, but I was like, I'll play it when it comes out. That's how I feel about Doom. It's demo, a demo is where I'll try to get in, but like a beta, I'm just like, I don't know. No, that's fine. I needed it in my blood, so.

I just wanted to finish other stuff. I really wanted to. I needed to get hands on time with Karen. So, yeah, the system changes. Absolutely. It's fun. It's solid. Definitely not anywhere near as slow as when you're looking at that first footage

and worrying about what it's going to be. No, it's faster. It's definitely faster. The one thing, though, is I got to say, like Desk is on point. He put out a video. That video's the best. And it's so fucking true. How do combos in SF5?

How to do combo. Yeah. And basically, he does a combo, and then he does the masher version, where you just do the same thing, except you input every button eight times, and it works just as quickly. And then he does the palm wiggle variant. One hand. One hand.

Upside down. Using a geef action finger to press the button. Using a toy. So, links are totally, totally easy. There's only one input in the whole data that I had trouble with doing consistently, and that was Karen's instance. Just frame, just frame upper. So the just frame, and the thing is, here's why.

Because it's tech and style, where if you're doing, Karen can do a stronger version of her dashing upper, that if you plink it, it works instantly raw, right, from neutral. But if you do it in a combo, you can't plink. You have to actually do it, and then pause, and then do the thing for like pause, quote unquote. It's hard. I had a really hard time doing it consistently. It's just different timing, but you can learn it if you learn the two different timings

you need. I guess. In any case. That might be why it was screwing me up. So, but the idea of like, oh, did I hit confirm, yes, the rest of this combo is guaranteed. So like, I'm not good at link execution. I'm just not good at it. I've never been good at it in any game.

So like videos are coming out of like, yo, here's a here's a reset combo with Mika with using your V trigger that does 100% stun. Is that that very first video that came out with the crossover? And I looked at that's like, that does look too complicated. But like, you know, you got to hit your links, like got in five minutes. It was so easy. Thanks are really easy. They're so cool.

Well, I remember there are hacks asking, asking combo fiend had a combo specific things. He said, I'll just do this, this, this, and I went in and it took me two tries, like, because it's not the fact that they, that it's, there's nothing at one frame links is only this to only two and above, but it's the fact that there's, there's tons of room. There's a link, but there's a link buffer system that lets you go one above or one below the frames you need to be on the one, everything in de facto becomes three. The moment that I knew was when a guy jumped in on me with Karen and did the cross up and then a low medium punch into a standing medium punch into her, her kicks.

And I had never seen that. And I had not thought of that in training because I'd only been using her low medium kit. And I was like, Oh, that seems really useful. That combos and I can do stuff. And I did it on my first jump in in a match after seeing it once. So there's an emphasis never have that has that ever happened and there's an emphasis on making things have more frames in general in this game.

Throws are all really long and slow. It hurts me. Right. You, you, you have your five frame throws coming out and things like that. And you have command throws that are like eight. The command throws are eight frames long. You're not landing that on anybody in the middle of an exchange. You are pulling that out as like you got in their head and they were panicking and not

pressing buttons. I need to switch my mentality from street fighter classic throws where a throw will just eat your normals to a virtual fighter throw in which a strike will be, well, well, it's not nothing. Normal's beat throws. They're supposed to. That's the rock, paper, scissor. No, shut up.

Yeah. That's the same thing to pat the other day. That's the rock, paper, scissors. That's how that match. I want to super dolls. But special characters will have invincible throws, ables, EX, buttery, you know, like they give stuff. Exactly.

There's certain characters that have the ability to just power through it. And in this game, they've completely removed that so far. It looks like. Maybe. With the beta, at least, it's characters. We'll have to have something a little more than Mika because he'll be an ultra-raveller. But Mika cannot power through normals with third throws at all. And in general, in this.

Which is why she has good normals. Which is why she has really, really good normals. Invincibility is scarce as fuck in the game in general. No more invincible. It feels like king of fighters sometimes. No more when you're getting jabbed out of things. Yeah. No more invincible back dash.

And like usually in four and in third strike, you think of someone flashing yellow and then that just blowing through anything. And in this case, no, you flash yellow and then get hit out of it constantly. The only thing I would add is like it appears to be relatively common. Not complaint, but no observation. Jabs are really good. It depends on who's jab. Like Kami's jab.

It depends on who's jab. But yeah. Jabs are meant to be. Have you played cross-tackin? Kami's jab is the best. Now the thing is that a lot of the time, because you know, people often have one cancelable normal or so, and then they have like a really good frame advantage light attack. With the jabs, jabs are really good.

Standing jabs are often better than crouching jabs, which is like. That's crazy. But it's because you're taking a bit more risk. Yeah. It makes more sense. It should be like that. So it's like in terms of the history of fighting, like that's super nuts. And yeah, all in all, you know, as far as characters go, like I looked in, I stopped

him and I'm like, okay, Nikali's probably where I'm going to end up. Really? Still? Because you said that like day one, and I was like, fuck you, you liar. I did. Day one, I said, day one, I said Bison. No, no, no, day one of this. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Because like, I was like, fuck you, Karen's not available yet. The instant Karen in that box, you're going to go to her. Yeah. I did. And no, I'm still going to probably stick with Nikali. Because like all the dumb fucking, oh, well, he picks the last box, jokes aside, I honestly always pick a guy who I think looks cool. He looks really cool.

And then whether they're good or they suck is up to fate, you know? So some games roll the dice in the right where it's like CVS 2, I get Cammie, Blanka, and Sagaht. And it's like, oops, whoops, it turns out that's the fucking team. And in other games, it doesn't happen. Well, now it's unclear about who the final boss is because of that dinner fight. Now we'll talk about that in a minute. Yeah, we'll talk about that in a minute too.

Absolutely. That'll be our first news story. Yeah. The final boss. I just, you know what I mean? And in other times, you get like a Kotal Kron or a Blanka when you're headed for the middle. I feel like we've said this in two separate points throughout this conversation, but I feel like it bears mentioning the Link leniency and the very good, even at this early stage

netcode, I never felt scared of dropping my combos online, not once. Yeah. Yeah. Like it works. They're doing it. They have a little bit to go, but they're doing it. The combos, considering it's not out till spring. Like the progress, they're like 90% there.

The combos I've dropped have been the combos I've gotten rolled back out of. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Cause they can see so bad that they weren't even on the ground. Yes. And bad rollback fights are unlike bad old netcode lag fights, bad rollback fights are

unplayable. They're magic. Yeah. Because there's two fights happening. And the best bad rollback moment is playing third strike and seeing like Ryu do a goddamn hard shoryuken and then you jump and he's on the ground because he never left the ground. Yeah. Or doing a combo and then you get a drop in the middle of the combo, but while you were

beating the guy up, he was Ken and mashing fierce DP. So you get eaten. And I changed my mind to the new, it's in third strike online edition is when you're playing footsies and you'll throw out like a Elena's like medium kick and you'll win. And no you didn't! And it'll roll back that final footsie hit and you'll just break, you'll go, what, what? So the thing with the Kali is, and I called it on the trailer by the way, so I see a body projectile, an uppercut, a command grab and a dive kick and it's like these are the tools

you give somebody who you don't intend to give any buttons to. And his normals are all shit. Are there any good ones? Yes. Low-medium kick is okay. They're not all shit, but they're all shit in a casual set. Like you can use his standing hard kick to crush counter and you get some fat fucking business kicks on people and it feels good.

That's a good one. And when you get it in the air they do like a little floating spin which lets you go into whatever you want. I think the Kali's like standing punches are the worst I've ever seen in a Street Fighter. They're the stubbiest little T-Rex swings and imagine if the T-Rex's claws don't have a hitbox. Don't even have a hitbox on them, yeah. So you can see him going into his rage mode and like he swings his jab out and there's

all this magic energy on the end of his jab that does nothing. That's great. It's a fucking joke, right? And so like it took all weekend for me to figure out what's the game plan. How? You just jump in all the time. And like I figured it out after like okay I was playing for a while, struggling, watching some streams and then I was watching footage of Aliyun, God bless fucking Aliyun.

That's great. The best. This fucking champ. He's number, he's got to number, he's number one. Yeah. Oh really? Really? He took ranking spots to him.

Wow congrats to him. Number one. That's sick. Like 56 points. Hold on. I want to point that out as a special consideration that is great. The ranking system in this game is great. It's fantastic.

It just tells you this is your ranking. I got to 8,900. That's good. Yeah. It tells you where you are, what your number is, and then you have another level which is like experience, which is like how many battles you fought and like and it's so interesting because like there are clearly two different things that are like. One thing is just like yeah, how much you've played and the other is how good you are and

you'll see somebody and go like oh shit level 32 and then you get into the fight and he's like rank 5 digits. 25,000. And you're just like oh my god. You've been grinding it out. But like it had the effect that like because VP was always super confusing to me. It was. But now it's like what is my ranking?

What is that person's ranking? Yeah. Ro. The two numbers they have are literally the ones you want the most. And then the leak points determines where you fall on the ranking list basically. So thankfully. I just want to point that out because it's so good. Yes.

Thankfully I like spent most of my time in the comfortable 1,000 to 2,000 range. Oh really? You got way way farther up there than me at the whole time. In the Gonzo sphere? The Gonzo sphere. What is that even? Where you're stuck playing Hanzo Gonzo only. Oh yeah that was day one.

Day one. Me and Hanzo Gonzo just had endless back-to-back matches and there was no one else I could get into a fight with. Maybe that's why I was getting into those fights pretty quickly. Yeah. You too just happened to gel. We were on the same. Yeah.

Crazy. So that ranking. Of all people to get matched with. The same shard. That's great. That ranking system will improve dramatically with one more piece of information and that's total players. Yes.

Of course yeah. When you see like you know I say I got to like 9,000. That's not great. That's not bad. But if I'm 9,000 of 280,000. Yeah. Yeah exactly. Exactly.

Yeah. No now Max on Max got in under a thousand so like get on him for that as well. But no watching that footage of Aliyun and seeing how he dealt with how he used the Cali and how you figure this match out. Is he maning the Cali? It looks like he's maning the Cali right now until we don't know. For the beta. Of course yeah.

You know Hanzo Gonzo is playing him as well and yeah you just understand oh your buttons are shit therefore you will lose at footsies almost all the time therefore don't play footsies with the Cali. It makes sense. Yeah. It's straight up like you don't even engage. You jump in do a couple hits jump out not jump sorry dash in dash out and you're spending most of the game at mid range where you're going to DP any jumps they do and dash through

any fireballs. Right yeah his dash just beats fireballs. And if it's a character without those then you're looking to crush a critical a crush counter hit you know and that's how you get your wins in and like before adopting that strategy I was like my win rate was like I don't know I guess I'd win four out of five games or so and then putting that into place took me through the rest of the game no problem. Mika is terrifying. Super scary.

She's so good. And in her face if you treat her like a grappler and she is and you back out the only thing she has is her drop kick at a certain point and she becomes way less scary but if you decide to try and take her head on don't you're probably going to fucking don't don't play Mika's game because she wants you there. Yeah and when you get cornered by her that's your dad. The whole match is a work. Like this game the damage it's it feels like super turbo like it's the scariest core game

I've ever played because you're in the corner you're dead. So Geith is a grappler that excels like with you close to him on the stage on the field and Hugo wanted you in the corner Mika gets both of these things and Nadeshko for the mix up is or extra combos or like any number of things Nadeshko is like you only get one around you get one but it's super good and you make it work you can use it to make it yourself sit. I was watching I forget who it was but guy would like here's all the cool shit you can do with V trigger and it's the it's the hit confirm button for shit noobs because like

you you you throw out a punch and cancel it and you intend to be a great did you hit yes do anything you want did you not back dash and and there are also people are using it like they used OK so in SF for they gave to God angry scar after super yeah and what it lets him do is is he uses two bars of meter to get a stronger Tiger uppercut the main advantage of using it wasn't the stronger Tiger uppercut it was pausing the game temporarily to see what you're doing and reacting to it yeah so people are popping V trigger when you're in the air just to get a cleaner uppercut on and the other thing is like Nikali in particular is V trigger is amazing because you can hide his charge in it yes sending
