The boys run a thought experiment on what the games industry would have been like if Nintendo stayed in power. Also, with SDCC wrapping up, there's a ton of movie and TV announcements to fawn over. Go! Go! Zaibatsu!

are like the eternal battle so yeah you see I remember you when the GameCube and in the Xbox you know they're coming out you always had the feeling like oh PS2 is totally totally killing it it's not it's not even fucking close but I remember seeing a couple years ago like here the lifetime sales of every console from that generation and that used bar graphs and it was yeah here's the Xbox it's a 17 million and here's the GameCube 24 million here's the PS2 155 million so oh more than 10 times like more than five times their competitors come no three times the their competitors a bunch a lot times and it's

like wow they whoo not even it not even a contest PS3 fuck the pooch on that wow wow wow good job so yeah yeah they did it you made enough money so you could do one big fuck up yeah and Microsoft made enough money with the 360 to do one big fuck up no wait they didn't they didn't make any money actually oh wait that's fine and the Xbox you know everyone says the Xbox one selling shit it's not no no that's not what I mean it's doing I'm not saying you're saying that sorry what I I want to make it clear because a lot of people are actually gonna misinterpret that because they know where it's like you

whenever you talk about the financials of these companies like Nintendo made a lot of money with the Wii Nintendo had war chests that hundreds of billions hundred years um Sony made a lot of money with the PS2 and is making it with the PS4 but Xbox that division yeah has never made a goddamn penny because the cost has always been really over it and they were gonna make money in the last generation and then they had to pay a billion dollars to replace all those broken Xboxes and they didn't make any money and there's been a dick trip moment for every one of the companies and I said that like four years ago and

I'm so happy to be like who's gonna be who's gonna dick trip next yeah I would love to see an alternate reality where they were able to correct those mistakes and we got the highest per most perfect version of every company's console yeah every time and see who would still win what would and like but the limit to how far you can go back would have to be the Final Fantasy 7 split yeah because the generation would not exist it says something to me when whenever I look at console output I always go man I wish they could be Dreamcast Sega so like Dreamcast Sega output is just the first thing that I

thought of it's like well what if the Dreamcast had adequate copy protection hmm like like the Saturn like that alone like the Dreamcast had a lot of problems yeah but that alone that would have made a difference yeah for sure not maybe not the biggest difference a difference but maybe Sega would have a console out on on the market instead of some kind of nightmarish press conference it would have it would have contributed but there's other you know yeah and I mean we do but what's now that we know that this the Saturn copy protection was way stronger it's so baffling that they went out against that when they

added you know but but yeah or like you know obviously X-Bone not announcing itself the way it did oh ps3 pricing on launch well not just the pricing the just the entire top-to-bottom design and specs and that skew split remember when remember when Crazy Ken got up there it's like this is gonna have two HDMI ports for both of your 1080p TVs and everyone in the audience said what what who well you look at the old shots of all the ports on the back of a ps3 pre-launch yeah and it's bath it's like a fucking stereo system it's baffling yeah I remember and even even vanilla ps3s have a lot more ports than why does it have a

micro SD slot do you remember do you remember that screenshot by the UK resistance or is this like all the ports it is like lie lie lie lie lie lie lie and like even though they cut so much out you remember on the the original ps3s you could open the side thing yeah it had an SD it had a memory stick pro duo and a fucking compact compact flash flash why for who well for someone whenever I look at the ps3 it's a it is actually incredible how many features it has well because they're you can connect it to your printers the idea they had photos you can watch move like what this you can do so much that the ps4 can they said this

will do everything and it pretty damn well does and it conceivably could but why would you want to putting a flash thing in there and not putting it's putting that in there instead of a ps1 ps2 memory card slot was the dumb what would the Wii U look like if it just had a far more accurate and better better feeling we remote yeah like no but I mean I know but not that though so the Nintendo decision to not keep up with the hardware what if Nintendo is where like a lot of third party like a GameCube GameCube is where they was was pretty much the final stop you know because at the same time GameCube was

more powerful than ps2 but it but game but yeah and you saw you saw multiple you saw ports to both yeah and game you stopped seeing that game was significant yeah the Wii the Wii was the split for sure so like I know this is objectively not true but their back down on hardware was so strong that in my mind the Wii is weaker than a GameCube I know I know that's absolutely not the case because of the relative strength but I but I net like because of the the world that existed around them I remember a bunch of GameCube was coming out we're like oh that game looks awesome and I remember saying that about like I

don't remember saying that about any Wii games I'm sure there were I'm sure there were I know O'Connor was a good looking game but I thought but I still think that we you can only have this discussion again like once you have the hindsight's 20 20 you have the Panasonic brand or not the whatever the I'm not Panasonic the the Sony branch from when the Final Fantasy 7 disc fiasco happen yeah because that invented CDs that version of the timeline where they continue to work together and Nintendo crew made a CD based console mm-hmm is one where Nintendo come out the world didn't that come out in Japan

the DD no no not the DD drive that not the DD that's the disc system yeah that that was different this is something else entirely and this was basically what FF7 was gonna saw somebody recently I think it was them in that universe the fucking Sega CD is like a Genesis Club sandwich hmm yeah I saw that too just just like did anyone actually own that club sandwich and god do you think do you think in that reality where Nintendo hands down rules the console market with an iron fist yeah that the only like mature games would get would be like PC also like so you would get like the Nintendo PlayStation thing that

we've recently seen the prototype surface like that kind of thing would have appeared and it would have been like the the Sega CD but for the Super Nintendo and everyone would be working on it the but yeah just just to bear it in mind the capabilities would be relatively similar and then so you still have Sega and then the question would be yeah does this Microsoft dip their feet without without PlayStation existing does the Dreamcast stand a chance against that because the PlayStation division wouldn't exist they would only make the hardware and Nintendo would continue doing Nintendo

Sega was rivaling Nintendo at the time so they would have continued yeah their research but that's what I mean with no PlayStation division getting tech in and Final Fantasy and Bridge Racer and stuff at the time and with Nintendo still being Nintendo yeah I guess and Sega would have rivaled them until they hit their loss but wait but would it would it turn out the same right without a PS1 in terms of Microsoft's getting in had Microsoft still decided to get in and then someone Nintendo dominated console market I believe that Nintendo would have put like thresholds on really hardcore mature games if they own the market I

think but that would have made the Xbox's original unchanged marketing way stronger powered as a console for adults it would have had mature games because they would get a shitload of PC games that would never been able to get on a console space because they'd blood in them or fucking whatever yeah I think I think the one surefire bet is that you would have a PC market at the in that world you would have a much stronger one you'd have a you'd have a really intense PC still get the era of piracy where that was a big problem but who knows yeah that's the only guarantee because you have like things like be

weird everything throughout the entire PS1 PS2 era is now a Nintendo property or at least on a Nintendo console well no cuz that's not a game would exist around and a lot of those games exactly wouldn't exist and a bunch of different games would exist yeah but I guess what what I kind of mean is that era when first-person shooters took over was you're looking at a PC based yeah but I mean like but I mean you don't get like Shadow the Colossus doesn't exist on Nintendo system it doesn't exist no you know what I mean and I don't see how that seeds way to PC instantly because at the time like those consoles were

still relatively toe-to-toe I mean not actually but on the relative scale of things well a bunch of games on PC would have been relatively unaffected half life still would have existed because our craft would have still existed come out you know we're talking about like the follow-up to that first console with FF7 that would have been an again a Nintendo Sony project that would have been like about PS2 level power but it might not have been in the same FF7 yeah it might have been one of the more original pitches for it where they tried working with N64 tech and stuff you know might not have turned out to be

the same game like what if it was closer to Parasite Eve right or like or like you know the tech demo for Final Fantasy on N64 yeah like what if it was like that thing looks like shit I hate that thing because the CD drive would just be attached to the thought experiments going on what we got you know yeah I'm following I'm following like I don't follow how it goes to PC though I don't I don't get that leap the PC would have had a stronger market because it would have been a larger source of competition for different kinds of games earlier I feel like hardware rivaling the Nintendo owned world would have had a much

harder time like actually reaching the level and taking over or competing or even winning I feel like it would have continued to Nintendo would have continued to dominate and then PC now would have been something that could actually challenge so here's what I like things like the equivalent of your Dreamcast or things like the equivalent of your Xbox would come along and be an alternative but I don't think they would ever actually take the mantle away well you know but I just I just don't see where PC jumps in like I don't see the the well it would have been a larger potential source of games that would

not show up on Nintendo's platform that would have alternatively showed up on say the PS2 or the Xbox and the steam we have now could could exist but like Japanese developers wouldn't have done that yeah but American ones would have and so would Western ones to a degree but remember but piracy was a big problem back then piracy is always a big problem but but it was way worse then than it was now and that was actually a big fact and I'm not saying whether it's true or not but that was a big fact and yeah and not to make PC stuff you know yeah yeah I think like any you go through all the different errors of DRM but I mean I'm

kind of like fast-forwarding to 2016 you know sure fast-forwarding 2016 I think the landscape would likely end up being Nintendo some other companies with some failed consoles and then like steam because I think steams development could happen probably more of independent PC stores than we have now hmm probably like they would have done it earlier like yeah and what I do know for sure is that we would not have as many good games as we have now yeah would suck the dick tripping phenomenon leads to a shitload of games like we still need as many big companies trying to get their consoles to look as good because the dick tripping

phenomenon leads to a market leader not being able to completely crush out their competition and their competition having a shot which leads to more games and a longer fight quote-unquote even getting rid of companies that feel like relatively unimportant like you get rid of Microsoft right then you lose like you lose lost Odyssey you lose phantom dust that's interesting Halo you lose mecha saw no you're right can of war and and that influence on third-person shooters well because I'm even thinking back to back when everyone's relevant back when the fucking Xbox is like that's cute right back like right when it

came out it's like Halo came out I launched that games awesome mecha salt one of two are fucking great games we the you're right because I'm like I remember feeling super bummed by the Nintendo situation back then but the three company competition now here here's it's prosperous here's a a much more here's a for considering here's a much well I I I wish steam would actually or valve would actually act like one of those companies yes I agree because I don't think they even touch them in terms of making stuff happen no they have it and I just mean in terms of a place where games are at you know so here's

the question I have to ask and this is a lot let this more speculative and less speculative because we're not going off of what ifs we're going off what would you want Sega Nintendo Sony Microsoft and let's say valve but I really mean steam but it's about right if we went towards any timeline in which one of them became dominant like de facto video games level dominant like they actually playing playing on the Nintendo right yeah which one of those would you have preferred like take the wheel for the the the foreseeable future for 10 years or whatever okay if from today or from no from history onwards well

PlayStation wouldn't existed so I'm not talking like don't use realism here I'm like oh sorry I just don't know I'm talking in terms of like management and what they would do yeah you know so if it was Sony what you would see is you'd see a a media like monopoly yeah of like this is our type of disk so I'll I'll go right out right now I don't know I would know Sony's evil Sony has always shown themselves to be evil and DRM loving I format they're all about I think I think yeah Sony pre PS3 would have been not a good choice yeah and I would say the same for Microsoft I'm not a big fan of how they handle any other stuff yeah

I'm not a big fan of how valve handles any other stuff probably wants to be Nintendo like it's like it's basically it's like it's like who's trying to like force feed you something yeah honestly hey who's been the most hands off with you know that Windows thing is gonna become full screen who's who's who's the most hands off when it comes to well it's valve but there are two hands off valve is way too hands off valve is so hands off that game legitimate games can't get on the steam and pieces of shit easily find their way on there yeah so where's your happy medium your happy medium is Sega well I guess modern

Microsoft and Sony are fine much better than they as far as their games and by learning learning from them again I would not pick pre PS4 and Xbox one and even then for Xbox one I would not pick pre last year Xbox one pre pre met metric like today's today's Sony today's Microsoft and for the most part Nintendo all times for the most I actually I actually really particularly like how Sony's being run right now because it's got Kaz there and he's like okay TV's and the movies and the fucking CDs and all that it's all in a fucking toilet let's make some good let's make some video games people like

that they buy them the only the only like benefit to that kind of like format monopoly in a way is the possibility of having that like one console future one well not one console one format multiple console right so different companies can put in whatever they want but they're all good but like yeah the developer only has to worry about 3DO or yeah the developer only has to worry about they're making their game what am I gonna get my phillips porn box right think of an arcade when you walk in and like everyone's got their own think of an arcade yeah I know right but like you know and everyone's everyone's

walking around and at some point you kind of standardized on a jama board you know and like shit's running on it yeah make your shit run on this and you'll title yeah whatever the fuck it was like like steam boxes like that you know that didn't go great that it's still not going great because now I see too high yeah yeah we don't have the climate for it a steam box can't be a PC but replaceable but it has to be a console I don't agree that the format wars is still an issue because like the next generation will be digital if there are even discs yeah we're we're certainly beyond that in our like reality we're

adults but but I kind of just mean I kind of just mean like thinking about a place where you know porting is not an issue ever because it's like the developer is always an issue forever but what I'm what I mean what I'm talking about is something where the consoles would all be running the same format so they wouldn't like yeah well PC runs the same format and even then you mean a computer and that the compatibility is never perfect you know like you get you get a wide array you got a wide devices right oh not hold on let me play whatever I can't doesn't work on the phone work like it's always gonna be an

issue and like we're never gonna have everything working all perfectly it fucking sucks but but considering the the the best version of that I think we will get honestly is the Xbox and PlayStation going forward where they seem to not intend to ever cut off the old stuff you know yeah and always keep the same architecture and framework well now they're PCs well but I even mean like it seems like the actual Xbox to PS5 if they were to exist would be the same architecture and use ever and just be fully backwards compatible seeing the neo or seeing the neo I mean talking about the neo and talking about the

Scorpio right yeah it frustrates me because like I look at that and go that's what a steam box should be yeah yeah yeah because a steam box said we're gonna have we're gonna have PCs you just buy no one steam and and this and it's like yeah but they're still like component built there's still fragmented yeah which means that you're paying for like even if you're buying in a bulk they're still gonna be like a fucking 40% yeah boost over an equivalent you know whatever eventually it's like though they should all those steam boxes should be consoles and they should be dumb console like you'd not not upgradeable

not whatever and then they then you could say here's a really really strong PS4 like a year ago for $600 and people would buy that yeah but but it runs all the PC games or whatever and you mean the steam box and I mean the steam box I mean the steam box but it's like it's like a ps4 and it has control you know but instead yeah anyway we're talking a lot about what we what could be or whatever what is happening now I guess our weeks yeah I guess so okay woolly ask Liam about his week weekly I did I did a little bit you did this you pulled the rug Ghostbusters you saw Ghostbusters I haven't seen it yet gonna

go see it Ghostbusters I downloaded the PSP version of the 2009 Ghostbusters game which is based on the Wii version of the Ghostbusters game and so it's it's got all the voice acting from the fancy HD one but it's not it's on my Vita that games not terrible it's actually like I heard that it was a mediocre yeah it's alright well I heard it's worse than the 360 one no the Wii versions the better one really that that one I do know that makes sense proton packs and the Wii remote the 360 one I hear is kind of long and drawn out and the Wii one is a bit more concise and also that the controls were kind of just better

granted that does not apply to the PS2 and the and then the fucking PSP one they cut more and more and so I'm sure the PS2 and PSP ones are inferior experiences to the that one but like going off of review scores and hearsay I hear the Wii version is actually better than the 360 okay PS3 that being said even though they look super different they both have the same story and voice acting and stuff yeah and it's and it serves as Ghostbusters 3 more or less yeah more or less the writing quality is not 100% as good as that obviously it didn't have as many passes as a film what or anything like that but you can

still see that it's written by the people who count and all the what well most of the voices that matter there so that's a pretty enjoyable game I'm having a fun time with it although yeah one other issue I have with it is it really just feels like hey remember all these cool Ghostbusters things I do I remember all of them so like the first thing you do is you go to the the Sedgwick right yeah you go to the hotel yeah and you fight Slimer in the hotel wow never done that before and the second thing you do they do the second thing you do a steak pot stay puffs back yeah yeah and so and yeah I like the painting

I'm so relatively early but do the paintings in the basement it's just sitting there of course and I'm just hey Vigo but the environments are all really authentic and everything feels really nice so hey if you're feeling Ghostbusters go play any one of those 2009 games because if this is the worst one the PS it must be the PSP version like it's the lowest in terms of specs and content the lowest the lowest quality version of the game it must be the worst one but it's still fun so go check out one of those games if you're feeling Ghostbusters I don't anymore you you got your fill oh yeah I'm done the

movie was enough oh it's plenty now you're just back to not being a I always thought Ghostbusters was overrated that's fair I like it and now I don't care anymore sure that's that's that's fine now I know I'm not gonna fight anyone it doesn't like to do Ghostbusters well you have to see it first I'm gonna then you have to decide to fight them yeah yeah you're right or whether or not you want to I know I always cared more about the cartoon than the movie the real Ghostbusters then I heard that if you really like the real Ghostbusters then there is a part of this new film that you will get a real kick out of oh yeah weird okay it's

really really weird like I know I'm in the minority where where my age well no it's like there's a part of the film which which I don't think it's particularly good or bad but it's like is that from the real Ghostbusters people on this movie know about okay that's cool it's it's bizarre it's very I'm still keen to see it whether it's good or bad probably bad but I'm still keen to see it I played I am setsuna a little bit did you have a chance to play that at all Pat no it's sitting it's sitting on my see the icon on my desktop but I did not get to play oh yeah no kidding yeah it's like a it's like a new very

snowy very relaxing Chrono Trigger it has a full piano orchestrated soundtrack I believe piano is the only instrument that plays unless I'm crazy I haven't listened to it in three days so maybe I am so how much better than Chrono Trigger relaxing way better fuck Chrono Trigger no it's just it has the same battle system more or less it has the text it has everything in there in the trailer there's a fucking X cut there yeah that's the first there's a first major tech you get is that now now is this setsuna cooler or less cool than the last play to set sooner well that's the blonde girl right no that's that's the white haired

guy oh that's the white haired guy different she's cool in her own way she is thinking she has a lot of integrity no I'm not I actually just played last played to so but the game's really solid it's it feels a lot shorter I'm six hours in and I can yeah I'm not at the ending but I can see where it's going from here and I hear it clocks in around 14 15 hours and I can definitely see that being a thing but it's really enjoyable and it has the same mechanics you would expect from Chrono Trigger on a serious and not shitty notes because unlike my original question like the game kind of sets itself up to kind of be

disappointing by saying this was made by a bunch of people who love Chrono Trigger that's a really hard comparison to make yeah to your own game yeah can you allow you've been playing it a bunch can you elaborate on how how fair that is to themselves like is it pretty much it can't be as good as Chrono Trigger so that's not I feel like an asshole saying that because it's dismissive yeah shouldn't even be judged on that metric for four reasons square can't make a new Chrono Trigger right we know that and this is known this is known and this is more or less Chrono Break new Chrono Trigger no no well it's it's a new thing

it's not Chrono you know it's it is different characters different universe actually totally unrelated it's um oh god what would I call it but theme and combat feel similar it oh the combat's the same it's the combat the same it's Dark Souls to Demon's Souls yeah and you get all your characters who have very clear analogs with Chrono Trigger characters and you find the bad guy with the scythe and stuff you know so it's it's there it's it knows what it's being which is not Chrono Trigger but Chrono Trigger at the same time so yeah okay but it's really really fun it's pretty it's nice it's is it one of the

greatest games of all time I haven't finished it yeah okay probably now honestly probably not yeah but then again if Chrono Trigger were reviewed today as a new game would it be scored as the greatest game of all time so no would be scored as an indie darling like braid or possibly or Bastion yeah possibly I feel like it would have gotten that reception yeah but it is really really good and one of the cool things about it that I really do appreciate is the developers have constantly been talking about how it's made for people who liked RPGs and who don't necessarily have a time commitment

or the time to commit is it short it's 15 hours long so it's have you beaten it yeah no I like I said I played like five six hours okay but it is intended to be short by design so now now that we've gotten the Chrono Trigger question out of the way my other comparison which I if you recall I brought this up last time is how does it compare to the other Chrono Trigger alike black sigil blade of the exiled for the Nintendo DS made in Montreal made in Montreal come back Canada was you know what was that company's name oh god they were there were there from here I was just like I've never played that game so I couldn't

I will always commend any any developer who goes out and or every and any team not rather not developer right who goes out in front of their game and says we're trying to make a game evokes the feeding evokes the feelings and emotions and whatnot of and then it's blank and then it's like some ultra beloved super classic well that's my favorite thing on Kickstarter from the people who played Dark Souls you know and and it and it it takes balls to go out there and try that you don't know what I'm talking about go look up a trailer for this game black sigil blade of DS now that game looks a lot like Chrono Trigger you

want to talk about fucking reaching in and almost pulling assets out of Chrono Trigger no this game is really not trying to be Chrono Trigger but it's there for people who liked Chrono Trigger sets in a yeah yeah exactly I really watch the launch trailer that's a really good launch trailer it's very nice what sets a nose monologue in the in the music and and the stuff that like it's really fantastic that's the quality of the people talking about it came out and I completely forgot what the fuck it was and I went watch that trailer I was like bye just to meet like if this is what the RPG factory is gonna be

churning out yeah then that's fucking great it really makes me feel good about Tokyo RPG factory as a company there's there's there's a place in my life for that exact brand genre and type yeah of game that went and length yeah yeah I know I definitely think when you start playing it'll be right up your alley actually well you know we have a mutual friend who's who's bananas about Chrono Trigger and he he replays it on a whim because he can blow through the whole game in like two afternoons at this point and not because he's speed running it with fucking sequence breaking it's like he just knows when you

know what you're doing in Chrono Trigger that game is short yeah yeah for sure and the other game I played was uppers which came out and I got my copy I came out on the nipon yes exactly so this is a copy I imported was there a was there like a statue working on the back that says one of 700 yeah okay so I was I was wondering I was wondering if I could work it in at the beginning when we were talking about sales but it wasn't a chance five but uppers came out in Japan and debuted to just under 7,000 units sold which is really bad especially considering there were two other comparable Vita

exclusives that came out the month before that sold like 50k plus so really really poor sales despite the huge delay it boy the numbers they must have been looking at to call that delay is fucking ridiculous because these can't possibly be worse than that yeah I know after announcing like the Senran Kagura crossover and stuff it's nuts does feel a bit tighter than the first demo combat gets a little repetitive and definitely the main thing of the game is doing the the quests for the girls mid mid mission so like you'll be fighting and there'll be a gaggle of girls in the corner and you'll go close to them a little bit like

podcast but when I when we do the podcast there's the two or three of us in this room and I'm in this place it's like how long do you guys want to listen to me talk about Monster Hunter and Final Fantasy yeah cuz a new patch came out you know like what like I'll go through it and okay well Monster Hunter is new Monster Hunter is so you got that one so what are the five best things in the new Final Fantasy patch what five best things I like this I like this no I'm not I like this I like start with the new birds I like there are there aren't five best things there's only like two easy then what's the two best

things they added a deep dungeon or they keep calling it it's so fucking confusing the name of the the feature is Palace of the Dead but in every single developer blog they call it deep dungeon huh because that's what it actually is it's okay it is a randomized 50 floor dungeon that will eventually have two floors 200 repeated after that you can repeat it over and over and over and you get a material rewards and you get some glamour rewards and you can get cool glowy weapons out of it and that's cool but the best thing about it is that it's a solution to a problem that games had a long time and that it's like say I'm

super high level Sam's 60 and I'm doing any game shit all the time there is nothing that I can do with you Liam the new player yeah that has any actual real value to me we can play together as much as we want but you'll get in old dungeons tiny amounts of stuff there's nothing I won't actually get anything because I'll on my proper character I won't get any gear that I can use I won't get any XP well I'll get trivial amounts of money so it's like it's always been so this is has a independent leveling system further from the rest of the MMO you can pick any class you currently have access to which is all of them if you

have the expansion and you go into the deep dungeon at level one you start completely the fuck over your gear is unique to this area and you level up by getting chests and your pat your shit just gears up and the interesting thing is is that there's 50 floors and it takes about three and a half hours to go through the whole so a brand new player who just started and you have to get to level 17 first but whatever level 17 player if they played one round of the deepest dungeon and leveled up a little bit they would level up a little bit they would be stronger than a player who has 400 hours and just came in like that's

how that's how equalizing it is well no it's it you're getting weapon upgrade so I ran through it three times with my weapon and armor it only goes up to plus there oh but I mean sorry if you played with like a level 17 guy who finished the deepest dungeon three times yeah and you've played the game for thousands of hours and you were on your first run he would have a stronger well what what happens is is that when you get to level fit when you beat the deep dungeon you have to erase your save it has fucking old-school savings so it resets each time it resets every time but you the only thing you keep everyone's really the

only thing you keep is your your weapon and armor's progress from zero to plus 30 that's very cool and what happens is if you completely max them out you can trade them in for a really strong level 60 weapon which is the current cap so that's useful for people at cap it's a universal missing link yeah it's it's yeah kind of so you can get that weapon at cap or you can use it to the same items to get material awards but what's interesting is that say the the deep dungeon goes from floor one to 50 currently the XP that you get for your character in the dungeon is severely scaled you go through the entire one to

60 progression of that class in three hours you like fun so you so I don't like I leveled a summoner by playing its alternate class the scholar and wanted to play a summoner and didn't know how because I had not actually leveled it I had gotten it as a bonus and got to level 50 whatever I was like oh I'm gonna play a summoner and could not figure it out right I didn't know how any of my fucking abilities work but I went into deep dungeon and over a three-hour period and you gain your skills at the same rate I was able to go oh this is how this class works I can play this and it's also really useful for us like I

want to play machinist or I want to play black mage or I want to play a healer classes that you're not familiar with in any form at all but you don't want to put in a 300 hour investment into leveling them up to cap to play an end game you can see every ability they can do you can see how they play you can see how they work in three hours and also gain experience and some material rewards I think it's a really fantastic addition to the game and like you can play with anybody and you'll always get something of value by the time you get to the end of it the to any players out there right now look up what the mount looks like

it's terrible it looks awful there's a special amount you can pay in a bunch of tokens to get it's hideous it's really bad don't get it use your shards on materia instead hmm it's it's it ends up like because of the cost you can trade in these shards for either materia yeah or the thing you need 10 to get the head or the mount rather and you could get 10 materia it's essentially means that the the mount costs 10 million gill in in opportunity cost which is terrible not worth it I it's I think it's a really fantastic addition with only one major problem and they're gonna address that in the next

update and that is because the upgrades to your gear is completely RNG and because later floors get locked out if your gear isn't good enough boy you can get really really unlucky I ran with people who got like every single chest we open upgraded their armor so they were going into like floors 21 through 30 with a plus 12 armor and plus two weapon and then you get to the next set and they go you can't go forward your gear isn't strong enough and they do the the entire run again and they get nothing and they do the whole run again and they get nothing so they're gonna make like some of it like pseudo guaranteed and there's

also a problem where because you have to restart your progress after you beat the 50th floor if and the only upgrades you can get from like I think 25 to 30 are from those last floors if people were getting like bad rolls they were like intentionally wiping groups so that you would fail out and have to do it again so they're gonna change it so that there's guaranteed upgrades but I think it's a fantastic addition and the other thing they added is about the birds Liam cool and they they made it so that you can finally just buy them wow that seems not with money really trivializes all you know not with money so they were

in tokens from those bosses you every every time you you kill those bosses you get a token that you could otherwise trade in for weapons but now you can buy the birds they've decided that the old ones and they'll they'll rotate it forward as it goes if you have 99 of those tokens if you've bought if you fought the boss a hundred times haven't got the drop and still haven't got the drop just go and fucking buy it because but the newer ones will never have that only the older ones and as new ones come out that'll shift forward etc etc so that's f of 14 that games really good thanks for the periodic reminder that

we're still not playing deep down because those words yeah guess what people fuck that up all the time yeah I go oh you were you know play deep dungeon no you know path and because it's POTD I keep calling it path of the damned like that fucking Diablo thing yeah and it's basically deep dungeon sorry it's basically down deep down you see you fucking see but I want I want that spear combat I feel that I just want to feel that that's your combat all right trash before I die oh no but I like the the ability to poke the body in yourself it's cool I also played monster hunter which is a really good

monster hunter game monster hunter had good games it's fucking great fuck you suck my dick the changes they've made are really really fantastic with only one right now I only see one major problem and that major problem is the little cats that you get the Palakos is that there's this massive subsystem that like you can train them this way you can give them skills you can give them moves you can equip them with this and this and that but because the game was out in Japan for eight months the Palakos that are good have been known identified and the whole system is pointless because all you want to do is

re-roll the cats until you get one with these skills and speck them in this way because that is the most effective way and I don't know if that's a problem of the system leaning itself way too hard to min-maxing like because the difference between one of these min-max ones and what a regular one that you would make yourself is massive or if it's probably games just been out for months and months and months and months but it sucks because I was I was doing quests over and over just to re-roll the fucking hiring of these stupid cats to get the cats that had the right skills yeah and then I did and then there's a feature you can just

give those to people once you have the ones with the right skills you can just say okay everybody on my friends list if you get this better if it was like the world ends with you where you could just keep grinding up their stats and stuff yeah so you don't have to worry about thresholds well they have caps but it's the it's the skill that's the passive skills primarily that skills are what really counts yeah it's like does this one have like the boomerang attack cat is the strongest attack cat does the cat needs to have boomerang pro period cuz that much better the cat needs to have earplugs the cat needs to have critical

s you know your plugs like this shouts don't work on them yeah cuz that lets that's a bunch of free that's super strong yeah that's really good and the more that I've been playing with the the subsystems and the various hunter arts and all that all the adept styles like man I want a unified system that incorporates all the best elements of this so bad the hunter arts which are basically super moves only those are the ones you probably saw in the trailer where they're doing big big flashing thing that's a huge addition of the game it actually makes it it's a lot of generations big thing is the combat is

getting it gets a vast vast overhaul there's a there's a perfect dodge system there's a perfect parry system everything can jump now there's a style that gets a bunch of extra hunter arts which are super moves and then there's the old system which has nothing changed and there's a couple weapons that's the best in bright I remember I was looking on the reddit the monster reddit and the two the aerial style where everyone can jump and the adept style where you get perfect parries and perfect dodges those are vastly more popular than the other two like make sense most people are using a version of

those because they're just more dynamic and faster and fun and it makes me think like can't we just have can't monster her five just changes controls enough that all weapons have access to all of these that work wouldn't that be cool it'd be really cool I guess the other complaint I would say is that I think that there's a lot of stages in this game I don't think the selection is that great stages in this one is it's a collection of it's a mismatch it's like it's like a dream match yeah it's a dream match in terms of a monster picks and every game gets owned like a little flagship and it's a dream match in terms of stages which are

bigger deal even and there's a lot of dick sucking for one and two there's a lot of stages from one and two can you attack using the right stick no because there isn't a right stick is right now use your circle pad all all the stages from four back which is fine because those are the most updated they didn't have to go to the best one and they're the best ones yeah there's a lot of stages from two and are they updated enough because they are a lot they are updated so that there's little ridges on flat ground so that you can jump and a couple of things but I'm really really disappointed because I got in with three

and there is one stage from there are 21 stages in the game and there is one from three it seems a bit low and it's the first one which is cool and that game like and you know every game has a volcano area yeah every single one has a volcano area in some of them have multiple volcano areas the volcano area from two socks it and the one from one socks but as are those the ones that are in there yes great though it's the one from two and the one from four that are in there that's a bummer because you would really need to do a lot to get any of those levels to be even close to four's level of complexity and verticality

yeah and the one from three is the best volcano stage I don't think I'm crazy to say that because it's the only one where you get to look up the mountain and see the volcano exploding it's the only one and I don't know it's that I'm not I'm not happy with the there's one new stage and it's really boring there's only one I didn't know there's only one genuine well there's there's a there's a there's a stage where you fight the new final boss and it's a circular arena that has bones everywhere but it's one of those types of stages that doesn't actually matter and I don't know that new stage Jurassic Frontier it's really boring

it is rolling hills and there's a part where it's a little foresty and it's bigger and wider I think it's it's so you played enough of each of the games that you would understand what I'm talking about I didn't play any of the first generation the four games are the stages are really colorful they're really really outlandish four stages are such a huge step up from anything and in this game Jurassic Frontier looks like it's from two it doesn't look like it's from three it doesn't look like it's from four it looks like it's from two it's nice and safe and bland and dinosaurs yeah okay and and it's and it's weird and

then probably the weirdest thing with the stages is that all of the boring shitty stages are all you get to use for the entirety of low-rank the four that's a long time it's a long time it's about 35 hours by my account I've been playing this this series for a while so it could be a lot longer for others all of the four you stages are locked behind high-rank that's that's something I really like that really irks me about hunting games is that they don't fucking balance their content super well and usually like you have to get to a certain point and until you can get to the new stuff and that fucking sucks so

we'll like like Tokidin Kiwami I really wish they had mixed in like if you were playing Kiwami from the start I wish they had mixed in some of the Kiwami contents in the Age of Demons story at the beginning so well let me let me put it to you this way because you haven't played these games and I assume you only have a cursory knowledge in for you you had ancestral step which was a cool big cool stage with lots of red maces you had you had the the frozen tundra which was cool and was nighttime a daytime and you had a couple others right and they were cool stages and then you got to high-rank and then you got to go to those

stages either at night or the Sunken Hollow became volcanic or they would remix them in some way right just means you beat enough missions to get there yeah and you would keep the old ones but in addition you would have their variant and the variant would be different in a couple ways in this game a bunch of all the stages have their variants right away but all the shitty stages are in the first half of the game and all of the good stages are in the second half of the game because instead of locking the variants because they have more stages they instead keep the variants for everybody and just put all

the shitty ones at the beginning and all of the good ones at the end seems like they should it's really weird it's really weird I don't like well I'm there now it's like they should have spread it better honestly yeah there's no volcano like they have a good volcano and high rank but you have to get that it's fucking weird and I haven't played with the deviant system but that's cool I'll talk about that a little bit next week I guess but I mean I think that's my whole week I've been watching a lot of Law and Order I've been playing a lot of I've been playing a lot of Monster Hunter both games I've been playing are

games that I can play while also watching Law and Order that's handy and Christopher Muloney and Marissa Haddard Haddard that's right that's correct Olivia Benson yes they are they're the best I love them and Dan Flore can beat Ewan and Ice-T and I didn't know Ice-T whoever the fuck what seriously yeah Ice-T's in that show a lot never watched it it's it's a big running you can when you watch all the seasons in a row you can clearly see like hey we're gonna get we're gonna bring Ice-T on and we're gonna give him really really small roles up until the point where we can tell that he can actually act right

because the Ice-T quotient in season two is low it's like an average of five sentences per episode and he's never the he's never the he's only the main detective in like four or five episodes from what I've seen so far right so you know where there wasn't any law nor order was down on the block on the corner collecting your pokeman so woolly lives within ten blocks of the poke-op ellipse the the poke the like four blocks the poke apocalypse the scenes on the corner getting the point where you if you if you if you're building moved over a little of a couple like a block or two you'd be able to see the pilgrimage like I just

like I can't go get groceries without stepping through yeah you know what I mean so it's interesting on my first time when I went to go investigate the ruckus the hubbub you know the hullabaloo what are you roused about doing out here and I was like oh okay they're doing the pokemongo thing cool I saw familiar face and I was like hey yeah man what's pretty nuts yeah and I was like damn so what time did everyone get here and he's like time I'm like what is time when did the concept of time do you mean did I get here no and I was like I was like when like you know did like everyone start coming out to

collect today and he's like dude it's been this way 24 7 since before the game came out no before yeah it was the day in America said the game launched in America the day that me and the girlfriend went down to that to that spot was still like multiple days before the game came out yeah all people who would put a hack on their right so now it's like I was out and the things I was out there looking at was like 3 a.m. or so almost 2 3 a.m. and it was like okay we're looking at about 70 people yeah take so we hang out in the middle of downtown at 3 a.m. on the fucking on the corner like fiends now if you do that

during the day that number goes to 200 easy simple so when we went and it was before the game came out the children's hospital corner was stacked and packed but Cabot Square was mostly empty mm-hmm yeah now I think it's still like that yeah basically it was like that yesterday when I went to Willie's place yeah the the the the the main thing though is that what you're seeing is a crowd that sticks around forever forever and then at 12 o'clock when it hits midnight the police come by and whoop whoop right hey fuckers team rocket chases everybody away yeah and then about 20 minutes later they all come back well about half of

them come back well it's it's goofy because that park is consistently watched by the police and has been for over a year because they beautified the park and completely rebuilt it yeah but it was a known hobo hype it was the crack then and the ever since it got beautified the cops have like they've had a car sitting on that park nearly all day to keep this the undesirables out right but the undesirables got pushed out by the other group of undesirables which is Pokemon go players basically but anyway all that to say I'm level 15 well yeah okay that's that's you're cheating basically I mean but I'm not

but actually cheating geographic not really yeah not really cuz like sure there's a benefit there but I've done a lot of like just on the go yeah I haven't a leveling and I slingshot of 13 within a couple days and then it slowed down considerably the real cheating is with pokevision.com yeah yeah where you look at the Google map and you see oh there's a there's a jigglypuff over there let me go walk over there now right oh did you not know about this here we go take a look oh the drill okay I see what you're doing you're looking up the drone yeah the drone is another way to cheat as well the drone is the way to cheat yeah

fucking GPS drone that you can fly all over but for for all intents and purposes I've been basically able I've been around for some crushes as they're being called mobbing right I saw one only one the mobbing gets fierce and that's when you start to go okay here's where the public danger is happening because there's a Charizard over there because you pretty much are looking at like you know most people are there like they're just sitting peacefully doing their thing ignoring everybody playing the game and it's like whatever O'Cop so it's the problem right get off our balls just hanging out peacefully playing with

their phones but then a dragonite appears and people start to crush and you basically end up seeing one or two start running this way yeah and then someone yells like aridactyl and then run into traffic as a mob and cars are like what the fuck are you trying to find it on fucking that somebody has sent me an image of people walking into the ocean for yeah so I I was there for the you are walking into traffic you are literally asking to be hit by a car like fuck off dude don't what you cannot load the app without the app telling you to fucking watch yeah so I was there for the aridactyl yeah it was scary it got

like it stopped being fun and it got scary so here's my question somebody calls out an aridactyl and the mob starts moving and it's running and it's a big crowd of people that if somebody would fall down could get bad right yeah and you're thinking black Friday and you're thinking like well this this is really bad this is scary people could die but are you thinking that from within the middle of the crowd as you are also running to catch the aridactyl I walked calmly at a brisk pace okay to catch see that that's the thing and I didn't catch it because you see yeah yeah see that's the that's the thing I think that

if people catch it before it pops up on your shit that's why it's gone because me and the girlfriend walking around all over the place and we would always see the same Pokemon we could both catch it but if I would see it so far ahead of her that she had to pull out her phone and and like load up the app it would not appear in my in my experience it's been like it's been no it's on this spot and it's for this time frame but it just seems like certain ones like have a different lifespan yeah that they'll spawn for and the aridactyl was there for about one minute yeah so so so so walking calmly and going okay fucking

let's not be ridiculous well guess what you're losing me not getting it yeah yeah so what are you gonna do next time you're gonna run so it happened when there was another like the buzz it happened with the lick of tongue and I got both of those but they just those weren't aridactyls in terms of how rare they were well so I was able to run walk briskly to get there you gotta run I'm not running I'm not running for for well a the only way you're gonna be the very best is if you become part of the problem and that brings down and that brings me to like I guess my sort of conclusion where I'm like I have no

problem you know do playing the game in general as long as it's what I'm experiencing and what I'm what I'm playing is in my path and I'll diverge by about a block or two I'll diverge a couple blocks because I'm fat and I need to exercise but I will not go extremely out of my way so I can see I came to that conclusion for a different reason and it was there there are a couple of gyms near my house like I'm gonna take these gyms over and then fucking freak beasts as soon as I touched those gyms yeah freak beasts just came up and made the gyms twice as strong yeah you take the gym you grab your coins and you walk

and I realized like I like I cannot compete with these people I had the people who are like taking gyms and dominating like high 1000 they are crazy I 1000 yeah they are they are they are level 25 they're level you know like they are nuts and I I had one experience with a gym just to see what was going on and I saw what what felt like an attainable I think it was just it was a two-pokemon one was like mid-thousands it was like whatever it was a Snorlax and like a sure Pidgey or something like that or whatever and so I was like okay and so I came in and I and I was fighting it and while I was

fighting it I was pretty much alone and then a dude walks up behind me with his friends and is like it's like a bro you team blue you know I was like no and he is like okay and then he just says to his friends you'll get on that shit get on that shit get on that shit right he's like you need to level up let's go and so like and I didn't really as my first time doing this I didn't really know how it was so I beat the gym and I was like okay cool and I was looking at the platform I was like okay place your things down now and I was looking through my list to pick what to drop and then I like weirdly froze up a bit and then

kicked me out and then before I knew it those two guys walking by had put their shit down yeah after I beat it and I had no idea that that's how the mechanic liked like I didn't know those like okay once it's done whoever's there can just rush the point so actually beating it is not really I play an MMO and I play monster drop to take it over I don't need this yeah 99% of cases it is though is it yeah dude it like I have like if you're at a crowded point I have well the 99% of cases okay it's not a crowded the problem is that you're closer to the city center so all the gyms in your vicinity are crowded if um like I have

to know why and not on myself is his stand fucking brown note not only not only does he eat the vomit but the line is oh yes oh yes yum my own vomit great he's he's so happy to eat his own vomit so anyway in Jojo eyes of heaven you're there's some weird shit and doing some of those side missions you pay you basically get to preview or play a bunch of the extra characters and I'm playing as weather report in one of them and I'm running into this weird problem where the main bread and butter combo that I'm doing is unsafe on hit on hit on hit but not a lot right you hit the guy no you're on block as well yeah but

you hit the guy and in the process of hitting him you eventually do an unsafe move that allows him allows the character to hit you while you're doing your combo I'm like this makes no sense at the end of the combo at the end of the combo like this is ridiculous what's the point of this right yeah um so then I doing some research talking to a few people and looking online it's like it seems like it's a result of the easy beat system being on okay which the game has which is the just mash square to do a square to do a thing right and that's a carryover from the all-star battle exactly right so I was like oh right they

did they pulled a persona and they have it so that you mash square you do an auto combo fine right so you turn that off but then it's like it's a two-button fighter one is a heavy punch that can never string into anything barely so you're turning off easy beat but the only combo you have when easy beat is off is still square square square square square okay yeah so you're like you carried over the easy beat system but the reasons for easy beat existing are not in this game which is a six-button or four-button fighter yeah that wants you to simplify it since it already is so simplified yeah so it's like you're

missing the entire idea of why easy beat exists makes me think of J stars and stuff yeah you know and like an even in a game where like Bayonetta has the auto combo system right or like King of Fighters 14 at the very least you're like well you're alternate but I say Bayonetta because you have a punch in a kick button that's right so you're alternating between them for strength different strings and in this case you really only have one string outside of this easy beat we'll just alternate it no there is no I'm saying there is no yeah you know so yeah that's a weird thing and there's other issues that I'll

bring up you know once we start to play it in the L actual P proper but you hate Jojo no it's fun and you get to unlock poses and you can spend all of your earned money on poses and quotes that's which that's great well I was like this is stupid and then I saw and you realize no and then I saw yeah zero Zappelli's pose and I was like that's wrong I want a better one so I went to the shop and I bought a better pose for him and I was like oh fuck damn it I'm in they validated this totally did and then I went and while I was browsing for a better zero pose I saw that you could replace Joseph's with the one he does

from the the Stan Proud intro where they are the three of them rotate you got these got the hand out cool fuck yeah so I spent my money on that too so I'm in on the pose buying so yeah it's a overwatch redeemed it's a thing oh shit I forgot to talk about overwatch did you play overwatch I didn't know yo Anna's awesome I hear I hear things fucking great everything about her is great her her costumes her quotes but more importantly her gameplay and there is one big thing that was not like it was not clearly visible from the videos that they were showing off and the breakdowns and that is she's a sniping

healer and that's weird right when she scoped her shots are instant when she's unscoped from the hip her shots are not hit scan and they have to travel yeah they fire real project up but on top of that when you aim at allies their hit boxes are very much enlarged well that's how it should be yeah like it is way easier to hit your allies with the heel beam than it is to shoot enemies so off the hip you could just get their vague area well the the main things that when you zoom in and you see that you know she zooms in with this big triangle yeah anything in that triangle counts as a hit oh wow on on on your allies okay okay um and

that's awesome because it sounds fine it's a sniping character that you don't need to be good with you don't want it to be ridiculously finicky yeah you know it shouldn't be widow maker yeah and the other no that's what widow makers and the other is the other thing that keeps widow makers niche intact and it's why I'm always going to be bad with the little maker but I like Anna is that Anna can't hit headshots yeah at all period they're always the they're always static damage or out yeah um her abilities seem busted they seem too good the the net her alts in particular yeah seems unbeatable like it combined with any other alt is a win like it turned it changes characters into different characters hanzo's alt becomes a touch of death

roadhog becomes invincible Reinhardt becomes invincible like all the all the tanks become completely invincible more or less because they have like more than twice as much health and do extra damage like all all that it's fucking weird it's super weird and it also like exacerbates the play of the game problem like for assist characters because if Anna's in your team whoever she whoever juice upgrades is going to get play of the game okay period there is no chance like I got my best game I've ever done in Overwatch where I played hanzo where it was like 44 and 3 or something and the the payload didn't move because every time Anna got the juice she hit me with the juice and when hanzo's hit with the juice anybody he touches just dies

it's it's it's nuts the other thing is that diva is the best now she's so good she's so good she's like changing that uh that uh that uh shield to act to to active completely like you feel you feel totally invincible all the time right as long as you always got it as long as you're looking at someone they can't do anything to you right and by the time the the the the shield pops and you run out of it nine times out of 10 your dash is back so you can just run away and uh it I didn't think it was going to be that big of a deal when I saw it in the patch notes I knew it was going to be nice removing one second off of her self-destruct makes a huge difference it's not I didn't I didn't think I well I I brought

I mentioned it it's the that plus the kill being gone from four to three I thought wouldn't be that big of a deal that nine that one second is the difference between killing someone a couple times as they got used to it and people being in situations in which they realize there's no cover I'm done there's nowhere I can run to that's safe well because like it takes a second that when you notice it just to be like okay time to go the other way takes a full second for you to to hear the sound and go okay I and then it takes you most people a full second to understand what they need to do and think about where they need to run to and that leaves you maybe a second and a half to get to safety which is not enough time and the ability that of diva to shoot you while

you're making that decision yeah now diva doesn't even have to worry about running away yeah it's man she's great she she went from like my hate most hated character in the game to one of my favorite it's fucking awesome it seems like a huge buff the the the changes they made across the board are stellar the only thing I think is Anna needs maybe a little more balancing because that that alt is so like will he go go play a game yeah I will I got a rank I got a rank myself go go play a game in which you either play as Anna or there's somebody in there as Anna and get juiced once with you played mostly right heart I now I'm about 50 50 right hearts area okay you'll feel it Reinhardt can kill all the weeks with one swing in the juiced form it's seems legit

it's it's fucking so nice um yeah so what I was gonna get into was uh KOF I played spend some time on that demo I did too actually did you guys yeah yeah I keep I keep having this feeling of like I should download that guy I want it to have the best impression on me possible so you know well uh yeah I guess having a giant cast will will help you know but I'll say this I I got KOF um and I spent some time with it more specifically I spent some time with Nelson and um someone tweeted his move list at me before that demo came out and that really made me happy because his move list is identical to the move list they gave Guy Tendo in KOF 11 so he's just Guy Tendo he's basically a Guy Tendo that's one of your favorite characters

that's awesome you got really love the design that you liked right off the bat well he's a boxer but I hate his actual whatever you like him and he turns out he's secretly a character that you really like so I got really lucky with that um what you have uh because I remember Matt came over and he's like he's like dude I played Nelson he sucks he's got two moves and I was like no I would not say that too and I found that strange but I didn't go back and play yeah and I was like no Matt you completely misunderstand this character he has two command he has two special moves and he has a billion command normals 50 command normal no it's not 50 it's more like a billion a lot though but it's basic and and they're all progressive string so I hate you with one of three

normals and then I press any tilt and a medium kick I'd like kick and I can get a low a different thing and then I do the same thing for hard and then I do the same thing for hard kick heavy every punch then heavy kick um his color B is uh yellow and green so are you serious yep so you got lucky I really appreciate what they're doing there uh he's got um Dudley's ducking to get in yeah uh and like he's got his his confirms he doesn't have easy confirms into his supers because like there's none of the normals that you do are really cancelable you have to juggle the guy into his specials basically so you have to work for it but the tradeoff that's the type of character the tradeoff is that you can do uh uh jab into overhead into low into overhead into

cross a through and I'll like just keep the pressure going yeah constantly right no any cool character any major ender you can just tap for a reset and go crazy as you're seeing here it's it's really cool um and only mentions as you're seeing here because I'm watching a Nelson combo video on my tv to understand what's happening exactly so uh I'm a huge fan of the ability to just go to town with a boxer so Liam you played it too right yeah I did so let me ask what I'm going to attempt is an unbiased question how shitty and bad does it feel it doesn't it feels great because I remember there were concerns feeling over the field the feeling feels like k o f which one did you have a specific one in mind it feels like older 2002 okay feels like a little bit of

13 so a little looser than the older game what you have to get used to is the fact that the animations especially when you jump are tweening more than they should so feel visual feel versus like speed of input game feel game feel are different right and the game feel is identical to the way it used to be the visual the visual feel is a little bit of a uh um what do you want to uh dissonance there I guess you can say that um because jumps and in k o f feel sharp and in this car yeah and in this game you know you have you mean there's more frames of animation I think you're using the wrong word there because tween is when you like move something without animating it that's what I mean that's exactly what I mean what I mean is that what you see in uh certain in certain cases uh something

that should be a sharp kick that would have less frames they actually and like say them like my doing her roundhouse or something like that they would the way it would snap back to her let to her normal idle stance uh in other games they add tweening to that moment in this game that makes it look a little weirder are you sure it's not just the animation because tweening is like when you take a picture and you spin it around and you don't animate it what you end up seeing an animation is an animation well I didn't know what I am sure because like when you go look at uh say Kim Kapwan right and you go look at him doing his flip kicks uh Kim doing his flip kicks to me and a couple of his other moves you end up seeing the him going back into his idle states and you

see end up seeing him going back into uh into positions where like you usually wouldn't see that much animation and in a way adding that adding more to it just feels or rather it looks I'm just saying I'm just saying that's not what tweening is like you're gonna confuse people okay when I'm the reason why I'm using tweening is because you have the idle state right and then you have the state that his kick would end in and then you have the uh you have the what you call it the key frame that's in between those and then the and then there's an automatic process that's pulling his leg back yeah but that's an animation yeah that's not that's the design animation tweening is when you make the computer complete it for you that's but you I'm referring

to that I'm referring to when you see the leg completes a certain a certain but you don't know that's hand animated though that they're not they're not they're like when he does a kick they're not saying his leg needs to be there because what would happen if you tweened it is the leg would just go wham it would just it would swing up and around it wouldn't do a kick you know having more yeah no I'm looking at this there's there's more frames there's there's frames of of of body placement that didn't used to exist and that feels odd like having in between isn't the same thing as tweening because in between this is like oh god damn it uh eory just showed up on the video I'm watching to see what we were talking about for Kim yeah and I hate eory's new

costume with the coat but the white but the white one's awesome it's cool and now I've completely changed my mind I hadn't seen the white coat yet either yeah yeah eory's white coat as as I was gonna say because like his color B is his default colors from the old games yeah with the black coat in the white and red and then uh the uh the white coat eory now looks like white coat kio almost that looks great it's really cool shit um anyway I guess yeah the point that I was I'm getting at is that you would see an animated kick and then at the end of that kick the return to idle can be left to be generated by the computer tweened because it kind of snaps it doesn't snap backs rather it slides back into place and that happens not for the beginning of the animation

but the moment at the end and that's the place where a sprite would just snap back you know so in any case um the feel though is definitely all there so I'm watching I'm watching some of this footage and I haven't played it but especially compared to the early stuff it looks looks more like king fighters like it looks no that that's for sure it is a king of I still think these models look like crap with a few exceptions like kula I think looks really good but dandy looks like a train wreck still there's something that there's something that it might just be me but I find it harder to short hop in this game um it's possible they altered it slightly I you know it might just be not me not being used to it but I find like the input to short hop like you know just to tap

up for whatever reason you're not getting it as much stricter right I was playing on a on a pad so I even then I was like okay I need to get a stick to actually have the experience here but uh yeah and I mean I played it on both you know I noticed on a pad I was having a hard time but I chalked it up to being on a pad yeah you can actually grab the thumbstick and do it and you'll have an easy yeah I did notice that oh that's for sure you know I'm in this weird place where it's like this roster is one of the coolest most varied rosters they've ever done and it looks and the systems are going back to something that I appreciate which is kind of a simpler thing I'm not the biggest fan of KOF 14's fucking combo pornography yeah but I hope I can get past the fact that like now at the point

that it's at now I would say it looks fine yeah like it looks it sucks but it always does have to be bare to mind this is a completely new right it looks okay this is their first game I don't love it I still think kyo looks really bad actually kyo's uh his super his main uh arochi nagi not the arochi nagi the other the other one the hand wave uh yeah the the double punch I don't remember what it's called because it's not the 188 cheeky uh he does it and the impact on that compared to the way it used to look in KOF 2000 for example is unbelievably weak it looks like he waves his hand at you and kind of brush it brushes you on the chest it looks so soft you know yeah and there's a couple other things in the game where I'm like that attack has no impact on

it it feels like it's a little touch and I really wish they had like you know if not some screen shake something in the animation to um not it's not squash and stretch but it's it's uh god I forgot the term for it but it's like when you when you um you take all those frames of an something going from point A to point B and then you pull the last half of them uh you front load them so that the end of the animation it speeds up and you splat against a wall faster right and that and that feeling is is is kind of missing here so when kiosk fist is coming towards you you have a mathematical breakdown of like this is the distance but there's there's six or seven frames between where he starts and where he ends and what you want to see is three at the beginning

and then like one at the end you don't want an even distribution for sure for a better feel so anyway like my love of king of fighters is inextricably linked with my love of 2d sprite animation and separating them feels weird and it's like well like I'm in a point where it's like I'm going to play this game and I like a bunch of the characters in it but I'm going to hit this point it's like how much of me caring about king of fighters is me caring about sprite animation I bet it's a lot actually yeah I bet it's more than I think it is you know I think we got lucky with street fighter and with guilty gear and I can't think of any other I think everyone got lucky with guilty gear that I can't think of any other franchise at the moment but I made the jump really

well but they just made the jump exception I'm marvel 3 yeah you're right marvel 3 marvel yeah games that made the jump really well and we just kind of took it for granted that like you know what yeah 3d's fine yeah 3d's perfect we why not and we never really saw anything not hit with the exception I guess in my head right now of the fates day night game you know there's stuff like samurai showdown send and there's always guilty gear overture yeah you know yeah they were misses for sure but we just got we got so lucky we got all the all the important ones were good so and we just kind of we think fondly about the transition to 3d and then like you know now meanwhile at the same time the fact that this game exists at all in any form is a miracle yeah definitely I suppose so

man I suppose so um does he have a follow-up to that big stupid kick super you can you can go out you can do any you can do any super into almost any other super of a higher priority like it's the max cancel system okay looks cool um yeah so anyway can we get a sprite based virtual fighter please there's only been one do you remember which didn't get keep on co fighting climax you can play as akira with sprites and pie jumps in as an assist yeah anyway did you play as sylvie paul paul I played as everybody in the end to get their moves down I really dig her animations like her walk back where she's like waving and stuff how many people learn that demo six that's good that's yori my uh sylvie nelson and king of dinosaurs and there's shanae as well

I'm glad I'm glad they aren't teams yeah yeah no that would be bad that would be really bad of two anywhere so shanae is all right what a main character from something else yeah no that's my only thing about him is like okay you're you're a like generic protag but yeah I kind of like how it's him and the other kid and they're like tongue furus students right you know I kind of like that dynamic but you say yeah you got tongue furu right tongue furu yeah okay yeah I I mean whatever you know it's each their own I absolutely cannot stand everything about sylvie and especially upon playing her she's not for me that's fair um I like her yoga catastrophe from a move set point of view it's really neat I think you have a lot of choices and applications you're telling me

you're not in the japanese pop stars um and I did notice something fun where you can send out the yoga catastrophe and then do her her grapple not her electric other super that throws you into it yeah which is cool but outside of that I really just got a lot of cool options um king of dinosaurs not as good as teesock and it feels like if he was then he would have been too strong it's the same way how uh the garo character is coming into KOF 11 all they were had to be nerfed oh yeah they had to be nerfed uh you know it was too crazy like gato they gave him a whole other heavenwalk like faint system but sorry not heavenwalk uh the stomp in the internet thing but like they got rid of his fucking original heavenwalk and it's like okay yeah so you have to nerf these garo characters

teesock it's like you've got these slashes and that's a cool thing but you don't have the back dash anymore you don't have the larry eight you know you don't have the uh you've got the justice hurricane and you've got the air that you got the jump throw and his grapple walks forward which is nice well see here's the thing woolly he's not teesock he's king of dinosaurs he's the king of dinosaur at all teesaw and one of his one of his one quotes is one of the best things I've ever seen i've really fun to that one you too can become a dinosaur like fuck yeah it's great um it's teesaw it's canonically teesaw yeah and i and i believe bro it's teesaw it's the same voice actor too right and other characters are like oh hey teesaw yeah terry terry just calls him out on

being teesaw if i'm not mistaken but i just think his moves are not as good as teesawks were so you're gonna have to learn up to him to play him differently oh he's got a little bit of a freeman claw thing he's got you so they're automatic they're not wreckers you got you do three slashes or two slashes but you can cancel them by pressing roll input and then you do one or you do two and then stop so it's a bit of a pressure thing plus it oh that's just big ball exactly in 3d for fuck's sake also the second claw otg's so there you go i did anyway that's cool yeah uh there you go see oh that's cool but it looks really cool yes but but we need to not have visual things while we're talking because that's bad for podcasting so can you please stop this so um the only other thing i

talk about marvel dr strange looks really good man i watched like 30 seconds of the trailer i said that's enough yep that's i can stop here yep yep yep i'm i'm i mean i was already on board but looks like a winner yeah and uh you know benadryl cumber button yeah that's i'm really glad i get to find out who dr strange is finally yeah uh he is doing his thickest american accent it's weird it's fine it's really odd do it all right i you know he's an actor right a real actor he's a proper one might say a thespian uh we had our first look at the upcoming netflix shows so iron fists luke cage and the defenders did they show iron fists they did they showed the iron fists man i missed that to look good it looks all right looks right it's very teaser not yeah very little of

substances the most because i mean it's in the it's it's probably not like a done right now yeah the most they showed off was luke cage uh yeah okay i heard there was a new luke cage trailer well i have a question you would know a lot more about luke cage than me if luke cage can get shot by a hundred guys and not even care at all why would he pick up a car door to block bullets with yeah no reason is it because it looks fucking cool to incapacitate somebody with okay to wrap around that guy yeah that that yeah because of that because that shot is really cool because he doesn't he doesn't really need it no at all he's fine um i love the idea of luke cage's costume being like regular clothes in a hoodie because they get fucking wrecked every time every time he

comes out power man and you know power man i'd fake it the fuck out of here he needs goku's taylor we got our look at the defenders which is the most teasery nothing because defenders is luke cage uh daredevil jessica jones and iron fists all the buddies on a team so all the netflix buddy so i'm really excited not for that show but to see how they're going to possibly all of those properties have wildly different tones yep well at least daredevil and jessica jones do and i it's a little from luke cage like from his bits you like there's it's gonna be i feel like the word i'm looking for is laid back it'll almost those because luke is invincible those trailers have been dropping fucking gnaws tracks on us and and i'm sure it'll all normalize in like the dark grunge that is

somewhere between but i like that will be a thought i like the idea of i really love the idea of the defenders hanging out and like daredevil okay matt murdoch's daredevil in daredevil works and it's very dark and brooding and and batman e right but in the in the presence of the other characters he's like a fucking brooding weirdo yeah right when when you have like jessica drinking and like luke just sitting around hanging out and he's justice yeah the gods and they're like what that's but yeah do the job matt and appropriately uh it's stick whose voice in the trailer is like you kids are all shitty you're full of shit you can't do anything fuck off marvel's defenders coming soon that's pretty cool the actor who plays stick is so old he's melting on camera man so old

so across the pond on the dc side of things you get to watch the justice league trailer we demand to be taken seriously now the whole thing about justice league in that trailer is you're getting that vibe that you got when samuel l jackson was walking around recruiting the avengers because it's that bit again it's that bit as a movie but then it's also i mean this is the first look so there's i'm sure there's more to it but it's that bit but you also combine that with tony stark uh recruiting spider man and so on and you just kind of do like yeah it's the recruitment thing right so you get the gag with barry ellen you get the gag with um uh doc uh whatever guy with cal drogo whatever his name is and and water man yeah and you know and it's like

no superman there as well and not much to really judge so far i yeah i didn't like it much but it is pretty early yeah i hope superman stays dead oh dude you know they're gonna lose and superman's gonna save the day thus negating the entire film i like barry ellen i think uh he's one of the coolest that the flash part of that trailer was the only part that i i like looked at is like i like that yeah no flash was cool yeah just like he was cool in uh in superman versus batman and um it looks like that the flash bit was really cool oh yeah it was awesome yeah that scene was like the best part and and it looks like i know i bring it up every time but i like the fact that he can remember what he reads and so he looks like they're going with that version of him which is fun uh and he

slows down time sees the batarang and figures out what's going on yeah so that's that's interesting i just like i made the joke just now but i'm like really worried that superman is going to nullify that movie uh if they have if they have balls they'll keep him out and say and bring him back for the end but no by him coming in at the end and saving the day the movie's premise is nullified like because he's he's like 10 steps above everybody else he's a walking deus ex macho right well and all the christ references are now becoming like this is what it'll be out for three movies and then he'll come back because if they're fighting fucking dooms whatever it's dark whatever man on easter sunday and and they're they're gonna lose and then superman comes in and he punches

him so hard and then then they're like oh thanks superman now we're the justice league and they win because of that that means that like the entire film you just watched had like could have been solved with a 10 minute like extra fight scene at the end of superman versus batman or whatever i don't know it's weird anyway uh we got man should stay dead forever uh yeah well yeah yeah just bury all that money put it right on the table and leave it there forever if you want to have some dignity yeah farewell third place suicide squad got a new trailer uh i didn't watch it but i still think that suicide squad has the best chance of all these dc movies that being totally agree yeah totally agree i think so i still love my company but i think so you know

you should check out though uh they put out an adverb game for suicide squad on pc ios and android it's a first person shooter it is free it has no micro transactions it's like a little horde mode very enjoyable so it's like um it's like uh what the fuck did gearbox put out it was cold duty calls duty calls but it's a good game but it's actually it's fun it's well duty calls is hell a lot of fun duty calls duty calls is fucking sick i still think we should do is duty calls the best adverb game of all time i still think we should do a video for that or is it checks quest checks quest is a better game but checks was the fucking awesome yeah but anyway the suicide squad one ios android pc you know what it's called very enjoyable which is called suicide it's on my phone so if i turn

i didn't expect uh and what else was there a star trek discovery is the new cbs show slash netflix show i didn't watch this because like did they did they show anything did they what they showed all they showed was the ship taking off and the logo so it's i need to i need cbc right cbs cbs pardon me this yeah of course it's not canada what am i talking about uh because plague was talking about how the design that they they went with was an old rejected ship design and here's why oh that is an old rejected ship design yeah i've seen that one so so the the uss discovery happens during the old timeline yeah okay i i i've been i'd said this when the first movie came out i know i said to somebody i said i bet the next tv series will totally still take place in what's known as the

prime timeline so this is going to be a bit more like old-fashioned yes either that's the intent i think because the new universe fits film better and the old universe fits tv better yeah totally when what year like what era i guess i mean like oh what era is this taking place and we did no information on that because that's they have way more important than they have not given that information yet between tng and the original series right right you know like that'd be cool there's interesting stuff there some people are saying it has a bit of a battle star galactica vibe well if it's if it's in that time period which i would guess yeah they're at the war they're at war with the clans it's hard to ignore so you can have that be the background of the thing and that

the creation of x-men so a lot of stuff to happen apocalypse now if i get south if i can remember correctly i'm really rusty on this because most my shit comes from the cartoon long spiky haired skinny kid isn't legion one of those characters that can just do anything omega s class mutant that can just like when you look at under power lists it's a paragraph of single words his his mutant ability uh evolves to create new mutant abilities all the time okay that's just not fair subconsciously and what he does what and what his brain does is since he he absorbs his original ability was absorbing people's um consciousness he gets a fractured mind with tons of people's different consciousness yeah yeah so he's like rogue on steroids legion and each of

his powers that he that he evolves is given to a different personality he has to govern it so he can't do them all at the same time he has to govern them with different personalities that he switches between uh and he's batshit crazy and he's like one of the biggest problems that the well yeah well this guy can do anything and he can't control his actions yeah and he's got the biggest daddy issues in the world well his dad's professor x yeah and when you make it it's really when you make a villain like that you know you know like i didn't read x-men but i always thought as a background like casual x-men fan that one of my problems was like most of the villains that they end up going against professor could if he was if he wasn't so like morally righteous he could just deal with yeah

like hey saber tooth's being a dick okay saber tooth's a good guy now yeah because i made him a good guy so so a person like that who absorbed like who's on a level with the mind stuff that okay professor x can't solve that now the ability for these guys to botch this whole thing is high super high standingly high super who do you know who they caught as legion because a character that slips between different personalities would have to be a good actor michael sarah and michael sarah i don't recognize you put a mustache on him michael sarah cast as everyone like youth and revolt um i don't recognize the actress face but um he's a dude and i'm excited at the premise because you know what when you take a character whose timeline includes things like i

said such as death of professor x on slot creation of age of apocalypse and the bringing in of nate summers the x-man that's a couple of the most significant events in x will you can you can you have seasons worth of build up tv series be able to bridge the gap where red skull steals professor x's brain it might bridge the gap where cap becomes cap wolf anyway i'm like you know what is there ever a chance of like a x file style marvel show where it's just all the dumbest storylines they ever did yeah it was called agents of so that's hilarious you know what good on ufx you you just you picked a smart thing got one you picked a smart boy is it smarter than ambitious both okay and spam bishes at least and you know you went with an x-man

you went with an x-man related character that has enough material to have its own series yeah so that should also not one of the a-listers also like yeah uh we've got the fact that nv adams has been cast as captain marvel so that's a good that's a good job to them for the movie right for for um um guardians as well yeah no no no no no sorry for civil uh it's either for civil war or for no or um you mean not sorry i mean i mean infinity war okay either for infinity or guardians captain marvel was one of the ones slated to have her own movie yes captain marvel she's going to be in a bunch of them for sure but captain marvel is going to be nv adams from uh scott pilgrim sure that's it's dude that song is black sheep is in my head forever turn his

godzilla movies and it could talk to all of them yeah and it would hate its existence yes and it could reprogram itself to like its existence and then there'd be a really weird elevator scene where godzilla and jet jaguar and this weird giant space elevator standing there and they don't move for four minutes yeah you just listen to classical music it matters though it does significant scene so tells you a lot tells you a lot of everything you need to know about the character significant scenes that matter are important in the long run jesus christ what are you going for you can see the ball up in the air just oh it's you just gonna catch it it's coming is what's it a decision to change or insert things into significant moments in history for important

say it's better sonics just has more problems like that's one way to put it like the audio is there's a buzz on the audio from start to finish there's a clip of a guy holding out a microphone and it's clipping out and cutting out is you hear that that's the sound 25 years sonic and then the audio goes brrrrr so we the gym position compilation edited those together and and they're right there in the dock if you want to see that they're not an order or anything oh okay so he did like rig those in that order that one guy as he as he said at the beginning of the video the guy that's trying to talk and he just keeps getting interrupted or when they're singing uh sonic boom it's like sonic boom sonic sonic and then one grab grabs the mic and is like yeah um there was a bit where

they brought out all the voice actors from the show sonic boom right and they were just about to have them do a thing and it just cuts to one of the sega reps on the floor and he's like okay we're gonna check out sonic boom fire nice and it's like okay what no i wanted to see the voice actors do that thing but whatever man okay we're gonna check out sonic boom fire nice so they walk over to one of the 3ds display booths right and he picks it up and and they're recording it with the camera you know they don't have direct feed or anything you can't hear it obviously and they're watching the opening cutscene and after after like 10 15 seconds of the opening cutscene he like sheepishly goes okay i'm gonna i'm gonna skip this guys sorry sorry if you purists gonna get to the gameplay

then he skips to the gameplay and it almost immediately cuts right back to the stage where those guys have finished the thing they were just doing on the stage yeah and we just completely missed it there was a bit where this same sega employee had to taste test multiple totino's products and tell the camera how good they are and like was he a scream lord for totino's oh god it was so and they talked about the couch at packs do you remember that one scream lord totino's scream lord couch they talked about it that was talked about how it was a wild ride and super fun there was a lot of totino's talk um the thing was a mess but all the stuff they showed was good they showed like good update for their mobile game they showed uh sonic and lego dimensions who looks
