So I guess you guys are probably all wondering why this week's episode was late.
By way of an explanation for that, I have to read the following.
This is definitely the most difficult thing we've ever had to put out through the show,
but last Tuesday morning, Matt Christmas offered a sudden severe medical emergency that
will require a significant period of recovery.
He is currently in the hospital in stable condition.
We are trying very hard to be optimistic, but there's no easy way to say that he will
be out of commission for the indefinite future.
As many of you are aware, Matt and his wife, Amber Rallo, are also expecting their first
child, a daughter, and her delivery is scheduled this Sunday as well.
We are obviously all so very excited and happy to welcome
a new little christmas into the world.
And we are looking forward to announcing this
under better circumstances.
But this situation is obviously drastically
complicated by Matt's medical emergency.
We are a family, so we are currently
shifting all our priorities and attention
to caring for Matt and Amber.
A silver lining is Matt is so loved.
He has a tremendous support network out here.
They are surrounded by friends and family,
and we are all hands on deck helping them
through these both tragic and joyous life events.
So listeners, please bear with us as we take our first hiatus
in the seven and a half years of doing the show.
We need to organize all our efforts around helping Matt
in this critical period and helping Amber
through the birth of their daughter.
And frankly, we're just not in any place to give you guys any kind of entertaining material
right now.
The show will go on though.
We will be back next Thursday or the following Monday with new material for you all.
We already have a number of all-star guest lined up to cover Matt's paternity leave, so
we will do our best to keep Chopo Trapas here for all of you as soon as we're able.
Sincerely and finally, thank you all for your support.
For all our shit talk, we do love you, Matt loves you, and we will try to provide appropriate
updates and new information as soon as we can.
We just ask that you do your best to respect Matt and Embers' privacy right now, and please,
please, don't be weird little freaks about any of this.
This is an incredibly weird situation for all of us, so don't make it more difficult.
I'll leave it there and just say,
we love Matt and we know you guys love Matt
and he is surrounded by the love and attention
of both professionals and everyone in his life
who loves him the same way.
The other thing is that we are all here,
Felix, Amber, we're all together right now.
And everybody in the crew, all of Matt's extended family have come out for this. We are
working as hard as we can to bring Matt through this safely and bring Amber and their baby through
it happily. So yeah, it's serious, but we are working through it.
And I guess like normally I would never speak on Matt's behalf, but just the two points
I want to stress here, one, and I'm sure Matt would be fine with me saying this, we are
keeping the exact nature of this medical emergency a bit discreet for person's turns or privacy,
but I feel confident saying that Matt would be fine with letting you know that this was
a totally normal
Style sudden medical emergency that happens to normal people. So please cease any speculation further
Seize your increase which are useless and number two and I'll say this on on my behalf and for everyone else here
I know we said it already, but the show must go on the show will go on
Matt was already planning to take some time off for the birth of his child
But right now it's you know, it is just indefinite when when he's gonna return to the show and you know
Chapo is Matt Christman, but the show will go on one way or the other
Yeah, I think
Matt is
Feeling the support from everyone and so is Amber.
And I know he would be in a screaming rage if he found out we paused podcasting.
But you know, the man's a pro.
Man, just cut what I'm saying.
I have no idea what to say. Just cut it.
Well, I think it's just good to hear that you're here.
Yeah.
Look, we are all family.
And you're not in it.
I'm sorry.
It's just, you're just not.
You're great at a distance.
But we really do appreciate your support. and I know Matt and Amber do.
It's a very difficult time but it's also, it's really exciting and we're all trying to be really optimistic about it
because he really does have the best people around him both professionally and in terms of friends and loved ones. The best thing that you can do for Matt and his family,
if you're wondering what you can do,
is to afford him the privacy and the decency
that you would afford anyone,
that you know that you care about
in his period of recovery in this time for his family.
If you're wondering,
if there's anything you can do to go above and beyond,
that's really it.
Just leave him and his family to deal with this.
And they're on what?
I mean, yeah, like I just would imagine that many of your thoughts were similar to my
own.
And we love and care about Matt deeply.
And I know through the show, you have as well.
And that love and that care that you have as well. And you know, that
that love and that love and, you know, that that care that you have and that connection
that you feel in Matt, I know, I know that means a lot to him. And it means a lot to us.
And if you know, we will be back. But, you know, like just, yeah, this is our first break.
And it's, it's a doozy of a one. But we are, you know, like prayers,
if you got them, send those bad boys up,
send those bad boys upstairs.
We know we're spending time,
we're taking shifts with him in the hospital.
I would just like to stress that both we and his doctors
are cautiously optimistic.
Like there are many positive signs,
but the road to recovery, I suspect,
will be tough and long.
Gotta reset the 768 episode since last near portal accident.
Yeah, we'll go on over to zero.
I think that's about it.
Yeah.
So just, yeah, bear with us for the next week
while we figure everything is out
with in terms of, you know,
Matt's recovery and the
intending birth of his daughter. And we, uh, one of the things that we have is Matt's four-part
Spanish Civil War series, which we might put out anyway. I know that feels a little weird while he
is in recovery and can't really speak for himself, but I also know that he is very, very proud of these.
And I think he would really enjoy having him with you even while he can't be with you.
So maybe look forward to that.
Like I said, we're all shook up by this, but I'm immeasurably relieved by the company
of others I love.
And I would just ask you to do the same if you're feeling something similar about this situation is to just, you know, hold close to those you love and just think of that.
As Matt himself said once on one of the vlogs, when I asked by the chat, what's best in life?
Chillin' with the homies.
Go do it.
All right, let's wrap this up.
I think we'll hear from us when you hear from us.
Bye everybody.
Bye. you
