Starting point is 00:00:00 Hi, I'm Felix Biedermann from Chapeau Trap House, and I'm Matt Crispin also from Chapeau Trap House. We're two of America's foremost experts on shows. We've watched our shows, stories, we have our guys, we have our girls, we have everyone. We've been watching shows since before most of you were born, which was in 2015. You're all six years old. If you would like to know as much about shows as we know, and also like to examine America's imperial arc through these shows, through America's most crucial TV dramas, subscribe
Starting point is 00:00:36 to Time For My Stories. Season three features one of my favorite Carmella things, which is she starts feeling guilty about being Tony Soprano's husband, and like goes to this old Jewish therapist who's like, yeah, what do you want me to tell? You're a party to crime, it's all, it's a oral, it's eating away your soul and the souls of your entire family. Yeah, yeah, she, yeah, she's like, he's like, yeah, you're a bad person. You're a bad person.
Starting point is 00:01:06 It's like, if you feel bad, then why don't you try being a good person? And she's like, no, like she doesn't do anything. First of all, you are not criticizing Breaking Bad, you're criticizing TV as a format. There is going to be a degree of absurd wish fulfillment for whoever is the main demographic that watches the show. Exactly. Like that's the part, when people get mad about that, it's like, oh yeah, this is where you've mistaken what you're talking about.
Starting point is 00:01:33 This is a TV show. I know we have these ideas about them, but there's realities of this, like there's entropic principles at play within the making of a television show, and you shouldn't really be expecting this. You've been tricked to think that. And it's absurd when you actually break it down, it's absurd because if you remember these like 2012, 2013 essays, you're like, listen, I love Breaking Bad, but it's Nazi propaganda.
Starting point is 00:01:57 Like, okay, okay, do you love it? Or do you think it should be, because if you actually think that, you're saying it shouldn't exist. Yeah, like what the hell, man? I mean, does this stuff matter or not? If it doesn't, then why are you bringing it up? Yeah, it's one of those criticisms that says more about the person saying it than it does the show.
Starting point is 00:02:17 I wonder if there's anything written about this, about like the psychology of being at the earth's end of this empire. And just thinking like, no, yeah, this will all end. I see it's end. The lit this state is on fire all the time. Everyone on the OC seems to be like teetering on the edge. Everyone's just borrowing somebody else's name for the co-signing role on like a mortgage or something.
Starting point is 00:02:42 Everybody's being co-signed for. He like, Sandy works so little that he like, the show starts because he like beats a handsome boy. I'm like one of the two days a week he works and he's like, hey, do you want to be my son? He reminds me of me. Time for my stories is available exclusively on Stitcher Premium.
