Welcome to Talking Fear on the Blaze Radio Network.
Another episode of Fear of the Walking Dead last night, myself, Jason Buttrill, Brad Staggs, Sean Foster.
How come he got to go first?
Here for a little talking fear.
Why did you get to announce Jason first?
Because he was sitting right across from me.
Beauty before age thing, that's what I was assuming.
Clockwise with the guy sitting off in the back.
Right.
That's all.
I mean.
Whatever.
What happened to theme music for this one?
I don't have really the talking fears.
I end the podcast with Walking Dead music just to remind them that, you know, we're
walking dead prevalent.
But it kind of brings me to my first point.
They kind of have a theme song now.
This sort of.
What was it?
I meant completely.
Yeah, they do kind of the starting.
Yeah, it's not that.
Yeah, they started something new.
Yes.
And I will say that this week, along with last week, probably two of the best episodes of
Oh, you are not serious.
I am serious.
I'm deadly serious.
Last night's was, I like last night's.
I did too.
Last night's episode was great.
I was impressed.
They took the slowest episode they've ever done and forced you to watch it by making it subtitled.
But is a cool.
Are you kidding?
That was a great.
No, we learned about Daniel.
We got to see what was going on.
You had to watch the screen.
You couldn't be doing it.
Like you said, you were trying to do something.
It's like, crap, I can't do anything else.
I have to watch.
I was irritated with the subtitles, too.
So learn Spanish.
Shut up.
So what's the guy that plays Daniel?
What's his name?
Ruben Blades.
So he was saying during talking afterwards that he had never been, like that was a first
in the industry.
They had never taken an English show and done it fully in Spanish.
Right.
Because it makes you watch the screen for the subtitled.
I agree.
I didn't like that.
I didn't like having us constantly read.
I hate subtitle movies.
Wow.
But whatever.
I don't mind subtitles.
The more Walkers died in this episode than I can remember than a lot of walking again episodes even.
We were able to have a character come alive to us, learn more about his life, and actually like him.
He is the only developed character at this point, the only one.
I swear.
It's crazy.
And he's not the main character, which is so crazy.
No, except for what's his face.
The guy that's there at the dam with him.
Strand.
Strand.
Yeah, Strand is pretty developed too.
Yeah, but I agree.
But Daniel's even more developed.
I understand, but that's what was so great about it.
Did we know that he was a CIA-trained assassin for that?
Yeah, we added that.
We knew that he was a military El Salvador kind of rebel guy.
Right, but they kicked it up a notch.
Right, they did.
Yes, they did.
They're going to make him a badass.
They'll kill him next week.
And they also, which is, which will really be.
I don't think you're going to kill him from Blades that easily, I think.
I don't know.
They killed Travis.
But Travis wasn't a leader.
He was.
Travis was just the hubby of what's her face.
He was supposed to be the basis of the show.
He's not dead.
I don't think he is either.
He's not dead.
I don't think he is either.
And if he is dead, we're going to see the farm walk by him,
and he's going to look like a pile of muck with a head on it or something,
and that's going to be him.
I think what I think, I think Madison is, like,
weasling her way in to protect the family.
Watch her get into some relationship, because she's already setting up to be homeboy's mom.
She's going to set up in a romantic relationship.
You mean spoon in the eye, dude?
Spooning the eye, dude.
Yeah.
Yeah, she said, put the, the napkin on his lap the last episode.
Yeah, and I got a chance to think about that more.
That hell is wrong with these people.
He sticks a spoon in his eye and then wants to be his mommy.
His mom in that video looked kind of similar to Madison.
Same color hair.
They both have blonde hair.
He's totally latching onto her as a mommy figure.
She's playing him.
Totally.
Yeah, totally.
But what I think is I think she'll also play somebody else, get into a romantic relationship
up with someone, then they'll bring back, what's his name?
I forget his name already.
Travis?
Travis, then they'll bring back Travis.
Which his character was briefly,
did not bring him.
Hardcore.
Briefly. They're not bringing him back.
Making him worth it.
He got shot through the butt.
Through the butt up to the neck.
Yeah, up through the neck, right.
Very few people survive that.
Right.
And then very few people are able to fly out of the hell.
You were one of the few people who actually did survive that.
We did that in the island.
So, yeah.
But they still haven't figured out.
who actually shot them down.
You know what I think that was random.
It's like they're flying through
and all of a sudden
there's anti-aircraft.
And then it stopped.
But that's like a storyline.
They're like,
we got to find out who these people are.
We have to figure it out.
We won't find that out.
They'll drop that one like a hot potato.
You were starting to tick me off.
I told you.
You know what?
If they're going to write it for comedy,
I'm going to play it for comedy.
I think that they've changed.
I think we've turned a corner.
Because I'm telling you the last two episodes
were the best two of fear.
You mean like with a lightning bolt to the head?
That was pretty awesome.
Oh, that was dope.
That was dope.
Brad Stags.
That was pretty awesome.
Are you telling me?
Are you telling me?
It was cool.
That the man is praying,
saying his Hail Mary's,
and God saves him.
And then he goes and beats the crap out of a guy?
Yes, this is the new world.
It was safe.
It was all to throw everybody off.
I think it was great.
I thought so, too.
Wait a minute.
Two weeks ago.
go, you guys were as down on them as I was.
And all of a sudden, have you taken your medication today?
I'm a little concerned.
I'm a little concerned.
I won't go as far as say they've turned a corner.
But I will concede that last week's episode, this episode was good.
They're kind of afraid to peek around.
Kirkman is, he's changing a game, I think.
I think so too.
I'm with you.
I think so too.
I think the last two episodes they've turned a corner.
Wait, so is he more involved now?
Is he more than he was in last time?
Erickson's leaving the show this after the,
Did me?
Dave Erickson?
One of the showrunners leaving the show.
How do we care about a showrunner?
Go get us coffee.
That's all those runners?
Isn't that what the showrunners?
So they turned Daniel into a badass
and then he loses his edge.
First of all, Daniel was always a badass.
All right?
Daniel Salazar was always a badass.
That was the point of Daniel.
And we just got to see it this time
so that we get to see him be the badass
and then he loses his edge.
So I was...
I don't think he loses his edge.
I don't think so, too.
He just has now taken over that place.
I think he realized that.
I think he realized who he is now.
Yes.
He lost his daughter and he's trying, whatever.
I think now it's like, okay, now his, it's his redemption time.
Yes, especially after he ran, especially after the Spanish Knight on the three-wheel, three-wheel bike saved him, which was great.
Spanish Knight.
You tell me he didn't look like a Spanish Knight driving through the streets on that three-wheel with his sword.
and his jowse spear.
He looked great.
Yeah.
Now that you mentioned it.
Come on now. He's a Spanish knight.
And he didn't want to kill him because he saved his life.
Right.
He saved Daniel.
And he told him when he was a good guy, I was a bad guy.
I was a bad guy.
Yes.
I've done some good things.
I've done some bad things.
Why are they doing such a big plot line of their south of the border?
So every single Spanish or Mexican person in this apocalypse area area.
You're racist.
They take so much.
a spiritual approach to it. Like this Spanish guy was all, what was he a priest in his former life or something?
Daniel asked him, but he said, he didn't say a priest, he didn't say. He said he's, he loves the
bottle. Yeah, he said he'd done many things and then he had an awakening or epiphany or whatever
he held up the bottle. But it was the same like, it was the same what in last season when they
went to that farm area and they took a big, you know, more of a spiritual look at it and everything.
Mexicans. I think that it's almost, it's almost that way. It is almost that way. When they, if you noticed,
when he teased it on Talking Dead last night
and he talked about the death of
and then we had a lightning bolt
Walker killed or whatever they didn't
I don't know I may have missed
when they actually talked about that particular scene
but he didn't tease it at all about it being
about God at all
and I was a little disappointed about that
because that's what that was
Daniel was
already given up he was praying he was saying his Hail Mary's
and God saved him that was the point
I kind of thought that was a little bit cheesy.
That's comedy right there for the fear of the one.
Yes, you're right.
That's what that was.
And they wrote that for comedy.
I didn't see it as comedy.
No, no, no, what I'm saying is it is, because you said it's cheesy.
It is, they put that, they put that in there for the cheese factor.
I don't think so.
Yep.
Really?
They put God's saving Daniel as a cheese factor?
Think about that.
Think about, first of all.
You are pissing me off.
They're going to write it for comedy.
I'm going to play it for comedy.
I just thought it was a little bit cheesy,
but I thought that death was awesome.
Now you're backing off the cheesy thing.
What the hell's wrong with you?
I thought it was cheesy.
I thought the entire episode was great.
And he had to get to face his fears.
He got to take it over.
Finally, somebody that was able to, you knew,
look, Dante wanted Daniel,
kept pushing Daniel to go farther and farther
so that he knew that he had him, right?
he wanted he was happy to let
Daniel in. That must have been a part I didn't read.
I miss, I, because I kind of know what you're talking about,
but it must have been a part where I looked away
from the TV screen for like 10 seconds.
When you were reading it.
I heard something in Spanish, but I don't know what.
Oh, okay.
I'm going to roll the tape back.
I remind myself what I said earlier.
You are pissed me on.
Anyway, I thought it was a great episode, and I don't care what you think.
Okay.
It's Daniel's story, good news, bad news,
and now he finally took, he's taking over.
And I'm happy to have it.
And he's going to take over, though,
is he's just going to be,
I think he's looking at that lady as,
as the leader.
As a leader and say,
possible, because she cares about people
and she'll do it, right?
He doesn't care about.
He's just like, all right,
now it's your,
like you're here for the water.
You want to take care of people,
and I found myself, do it.
Right.
I got rid of the guy that's, you know,
killing people.
Are you guys on the payroll?
That's possible.
That's what it's about.
It's right in front of your face.
Oh, man.
That's what it's about.
You can't read anything else other than that.
And tell me that wasn't a great scene of the burn of the burn scab scrape.
Oh, that had me jump.
I thought it was going to be a Herschel seat.
I thought it was going to be Herschel 2.0.
Yeah, that was close to that.
Chop it off.
I thought it was going to chop it off, but then that scrape off.
I know that, oh, that burned scabs cream.
Who wants some brisket?
Burnt ends.
Right.
Who wants some brisket?
Mmm.
Little mayonnaise.
So anyway, I thought it was, we've now found that we are at,
here I'm talking fear.
Yeah.
Because apparently they sent you guys all checks and didn't send me one.
I got news for you.
You're on the payroll.
I wish I was.
And if I was, I would, they could send me a script as well.
No, I don't.
So I know what your grievances are, Brad.
And yeah, I got pissed off with all the reading and all that stuff.
And there's still the cheese factor in a lot of the writing.
Like getting saved by God on that was cheesy to me.
They've never gone, they've never done a storyline like that before.
And it was just, I don't know that.
But I love this.
They're Spanish.
But I love them.
They're Catholics.
Which are they?
Spanish or Mexicans?
They're Catholics.
It doesn't matter.
They're Catholics.
On the border?
What is that?
Mexico?
It's because they get taxed instead of the film down there.
But literally what we've been asking for ever since we started this podcast on fear, they finally did.
Thank you.
So we have to give them props for that.
I'm dead inside.
If they would do an episode like that for every character, this would be a completely different show.
That was the whole problem in the beginning.
if you recall Mr. Staggs
that we didn't have anything to wrap our arms around
that they were trying to shove these characters
down our throats and we were supposed to care
whether they lived or died and we didn't.
Exactly. But this is the problem now, though.
Daniel's the only one we care about now.
He's the only, so now, literally everybody else does not matter.
I kind of care about the survivalist guy.
The head of the farm.
Yeah, he's getting a bunch of others.
I know.
I like him the other guy.
I like him too.
Is that what he was in?
Yeah.
Yeah, I like him.
But again,
but again, they gave us part of his backstory.
So you kind of know what he's all about.
Thank you.
Like Madison,
we know nothing about her backstory.
We know that she was a teacher from California.
He's going to die next week.
It doesn't matter.
It really wouldn't matter.
And she hasn't come to grips with her daughter growing up
and being a part of this new world yet.
And look at what they've been,
what they've proposedly been through
and she's still treating her kids like little kids.
Come on.
Here's some irony.
Did you know that the actress who plays Alicia?
That's her name, right?
Yes.
She came from the episode last night was called 100.
Oh, she was on the 100.
She used to be on the 100.
Yeah.
She was crazy hot in that show, too.
Details.
Yeah.
That's completely, that was completely off.
That just missed that.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Go ahead.
Just because you're on the payroll.
It didn't even show her once to make that.
Right.
Did she even get mentioned?
No, no one else did.
We were stuck watching Daniel for 48 minutes.
We got the Strand.
Oh, that's true.
There were some point you did not have to read the subtitle.
We got mentioned of the hotel again.
Because I can't wait to see what's happening at the hotel.
Oh, do you think they'll ever go back to that?
You are starting to piss me off.
They'll never go back to the hotel, right?
I don't think there's no reason to go back to the hotel.
So who cares?
Yeah.
I mean, they jump from location to location to location.
but now we're on the dam for a while.
Right.
They've got to protect it now.
I think it showed in the next preview that he's,
they're leaving.
I believe, yeah, Daniel will move on.
They showed Daniel's trying to drive it off.
I think you're right.
You're right is what he's going.
Now that he's given the damn to the people that care about the people
instead of being the communist that he fought against forever down in El Salvador,
like Dante was or had become,
then he will, then he's going to go and try to find his daughter because he'll take
strand and say.
Find my daughter or I'm going to kill you.
They've got to reunite the groups.
So he's going to go off in search and search of Ophelia,
which is going to take him across the border,
which is going to lead him smack dad back into Madison and the gang.
And when they, Daniel and the farm guy, the survivalist guy.
Yeah.
That's going to be a nice.
Yeah, that will be good.
You don't even know his name.
It's going to be his war.
Yeah, what is his name?
Exactly.
But even though that, like Madison and the whole group could die,
and then he could be, he could take over.
as the main characters and no one would care.
Seriously.
What is your problem?
Dude.
I'm not letting them do this to me.
I'm not letting them do it.
You're not falling for it?
No.
They're playing this for it.
It's going to come out at the end of this season that they were doing this all for laughs.
I can't believe.
And we watched.
You didn't like this episode, but you like the Morgan going off learning to be a
passive episode.
Same thing.
Well, you know what?
Because I knew Morgan.
I knew Morgan.
He was, he had depth to him.
I have to read words on the screen.
If I wanted to read words on the street, I'd go get a book.
I bought the Art of Peace, by the way.
No, you didn't.
I did.
I did.
Maybe that's why he's...
Dang.
And I now have a long stick that I roll around in my yard with.
It's a bow staff, not a stick.
And just like Morgan, I've sharpened one end of it.
Just in case.
Justin.
That's right
That's hilarious
All right
So we are welcome this is Talking Fear
And holy cow
Have you learned a lot about who's
Gonna be part of this show and not
Pretty much
We covered it in like the first three minutes
That was about the episode
It was just poof
Go on
Oh gosh
It was the best episode of the series
It definitely was
I believe that was probably the best episode of the show
Yeah easily
You too Sean
I enjoyed it
Was it the best episode of the series?
Can you name one better in this series?
Oh, they're all equally right there.
Because you can't.
Because this was really good.
You're right.
I cannot name one that's better.
You're absolutely right.
Thank you.
No further question.
If you walked in on the show,
are you still beating your wife?
If you walked in on the show not knowing anything,
not knowing any of the characters,
you could sit down and watch it.
I'm like, where's this leads me?
You can look at Daniel's character.
I'm like, okay, there's a little development with him,
and it's going to go somewhere.
Where's it going to go?
I don't know where it's going to go.
They'll kill it before.
Well, you'd be very disappointed.
If you walked in on this episode, you're right.
And you'd also be disappointed like we have been
because there is no back.
You'd go back and watch the other episodes
and be disappointed because there's very little to grab onto.
But to turn the corner.
To bring you into that world.
To bring you into that world of the Walking Dead,
fear of walking dead.
To see that world and say, okay, what am I walking into
in this episode and see, okay,
there's chaos.
There's a guy who's a con.
and there's this character who needs to find himself and redeem himself and then boom he he finds himself at the end of this episode
so was a guy off the bridge and did you watch last week yes you did remember when do you remember when um oh here on a heroin addict what's his name
yeah the boy yeah remember when he laid on top of the other dude nick is it nick what did you think of that scene
what sexy heroin addict nick yeah so are you not listening to this really i mean so nick plays on
What Brad is saying?
Spoon in the Eye Boy.
That was the weirdest scene.
Tell me that didn't play that for comedy.
But yes, but I'm having it.
Right.
Seen dead they try to suck in with one,
an episode like this.
I'm telling you, they're hosing you.
Whether they're not, they're hosin' y'all.
We are making you a doctor's appointment.
Thanks for listening.
You will thank me later.
Talking fear on the Blaze Radio Network.
Man, you are seriously.
Just cash the check.
back.
