Starting point is 00:00:01 Welcome to Fear, Talking Fear, that is. This is Jeff Fisher, along with Brad Staggs and Jason Buttrill. He used to go this way around the table, and because you complain. I launched an official complaint with HR. Jeez. Well, you know, I can't play favorites. Sorry, continue. Welcome to Fear, Talking Fear, that is.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Jeff Fisher here, along with Jason Butchrell and Brad Staggs. Sean Foster is not here today. He's out, I don't know what he's doing. I think. I believe he had a court date. And wearing women's clothes. That's why he has the court date. All right.
Starting point is 00:00:36 So, again, we are starting dry because I had some music that Brad found last week that was the fear music. But it really wasn't the fear of music because every episode, just change it. Yeah. So it's good continuity for the show to have something change every week that makes people feel right at home. Wait, no, it doesn't. I'm convinced. Before we get to this week. All right.
Starting point is 00:00:58 I want to get backwards a little. bit to last week. I know that you had... Oh, the comedy episode. You had an issue with last week. And we thought that last week was, you know, pretty darn good. And actually, this season has been okay, so far. I'm not talking about
Starting point is 00:01:15 last night's episode now. I'm going to talk up to last night's episode. And also, my man, Eric Kane, contributor for Forbes magazine, look at this. This is before last night's episode following Sunday night's
Starting point is 00:01:30 harrowing episode of Fear of the Walking Dead, I've come to a conclusion. It's now hands down without question a better show than the original. Hands down without question. Better than the original. In fact, Fears third season, this is where I think he goes off the real a little bit, but I'll give it to him. In fact, if the rest of Fears' third season doesn't end up being as good as the first four episodes, I may have to eat my hat. Okay, but he's saying that right now, every single episode of this season has been better than every single episode of Walking Dead's seventh season. Does he watch The Walking Dead? What is he on?
Starting point is 00:02:10 That is insanity. I give him that after last week's episode, we all, except for Brad, I don't know what he's talking about, and thought that the episode was great and the show turned around. Uh-huh. Better than Walking Dead? No. Give me a break. No, Eric.
Starting point is 00:02:28 He's in the... He's in the... You're wrong. He's in the tag for it. I would love to, I wish we could have him call in and explain himself a little bit. Hi, this is Eric. I just wanted to call that you know I was drunk and I changed my mind. Yeah, I would say, so Eric, do you actually care if any of the main character?
Starting point is 00:02:44 Who do you care? Oh, yeah. Let's talk a little. And you know what? You know what? As a matter of fact, for you, we'll try to get Jason on. Eric, Eric, for you, Jason. Good.
Starting point is 00:02:56 We'll talk to, we'll try to get Eric on. Just to see. himself. But I mean, no matter how, I mean, I agree that last episode, and even, even last night's episode wasn't that bad. But I agree, they're better. But this is, this is, this is, this is trumps everything he said. This blows his argument out of the water or his point out of the water.
Starting point is 00:03:16 We still do not give a crap if the main characters live or die. Last night. Two, do not care. Three of them. Yeah, three of them. And I was going, yes, we're going to wipe them all out. I know. No, they teased, what's her face jumping off the clue?
Starting point is 00:03:31 I thought it happened too. I did too. They teased Strand. Yep, with the hoard. With the walkers at the hotel. And they teased, what's her face? Madison with the prison. With the prison walkers.
Starting point is 00:03:45 No, and I, oh, the knife. Yeah, yeah. And the knife, too. I thought he may do it too. Oh, yeah. So that was a devil. Yeah, she was twice. And each one of them, I was like, come on.
Starting point is 00:03:55 Do it. Do it. That would actually make sense that they wipe out every main character except for Ruben Blades. Yeah, that's what I would say. Salazar is the only one that I'd be pissed off at this point. And why? Because they've actually developed that character. I know.
Starting point is 00:04:11 That's the inconvenient truth of the show is they've only developed one character. They have a ton of characters all developed to one. They tried to develop a little bit of, remember earlier on? Maybe it was the first season or I don't remember when, but they tried to develop a little bit of of a heroin boy. Oh, Nick. Yeah, Nick. They gave a little bit of that, and they gave a little bit of the family structure,
Starting point is 00:04:37 you know, tried to get us involved in the family structure a little bit. But really nothing to wrap our arms around at all. And then they killed off the other family. Totally. They're all going. And then Nick, by the way, who is really good at this, this being scraping soot off a wall because his dad was a contractor. Yeah. What?
Starting point is 00:04:59 I'm like, wait a second. My dad was a contractor so you know how to scrape soot off a wall with a brush. I mean, that's what happens. And why did he even, he went up there and decided to start scrubbing the wall with a brush? Yeah. All right. All right. That's another thing I didn't get in the other.
Starting point is 00:05:18 And found the perfect picture and found the one thing that hadn't burned. Okay, but. The beautiful. couple when they were in their prime. So what led to that, the opening scene, can we all agree that that was a bad A scene? That was cool. I liked it.
Starting point is 00:05:34 Oh, you mean bad as if you enjoyed it? Yes, absolutely. That was awesome. Yes, the husband and wife, the husband and wife, wife turning, him going, oh my gosh, she doesn't have her teeth in, which I thought was tremendous. I wasn't sure if I should laugh or cry at that. I figured he just set her down and go, honey.
Starting point is 00:05:53 Yeah. Right, yes. Oh, man. It's a comedy. It plays right back into my theory that they're playing it for laps. I didn't expect that. Here are your teeth. He was just going to let her gnaw on him all evening.
Starting point is 00:06:16 That's what I'm saying. That's what I thought was going to happen. I've got nothing else going on in the desert. Oh, Jeffie. So anyway. I mean, I can't help the way I think. Bad, Jeffie. I can't.
Starting point is 00:06:34 It was. So anyway, you're right, it was a great opening. And it was, and I even said before camp Rockjaw chief man came. My people. No, no. The head guy. Oh, yeah. Of Rockjaw there.
Starting point is 00:06:50 Yeah. He used to be on Sons of Anarchy. That's right now. when he made them stop. Don't waste the water. Yes. I was thinking, what are you doing? That's what I was thinking, too.
Starting point is 00:06:59 Why are you trying to put this thing out? Let it burn. It's too far gone as it is. Maybe they're trying not to attract walkers or the wasted, as they call them. That scene was so good. I actually thought it was, you know, what's that little short series where they have like the fear shorts? Uh-huh.
Starting point is 00:07:13 I actually thought it might be that. I was like, whoa, they're putting that in a different position now or spot now because it was just, it was so different. I just didn't expect it in the actual show. I thought it was one of the shorts. They were going to play that. Then they were going to go into the actual. Yeah, because it was just cool.
Starting point is 00:07:27 It was almost like a standalone little, oh, this family living out in the middle of the world. I don't know. It was just cool. I didn't realize that they were on the reservation. I didn't, yeah. Broke back mountain, whatever.
Starting point is 00:07:36 It's called broke jaw. Broke job. But it was the couple that Nick was watching dance, you know. And then the head, and I love the story. You know, once Nick realized that since his father was a contractor and he knew how to wipe off burnt walls, Wow.
Starting point is 00:07:53 They teach you that in contractor school. And it was nice that the two things that were saved. The fire were the gun and the picture. Perfectly burned, by the way. You couldn't have done a better job if you had done it yourself, just perfectly burning. But I mean, that happens in all shows, though, right? I mean, I don't want to rip just fear for that.
Starting point is 00:08:11 I mean, there are a number of things. No, we can rip just them for that. There are a number of shows that have, you know, a few minor, inconvenient or convenient things that happen. before the show. Yeah. You know, that's okay.
Starting point is 00:08:24 One of the thing that's so funny about on this show and the writing, I guess, is they're so not subtle at all with their foreshadowing. So they have that scene
Starting point is 00:08:32 and they have, what's his name, Otto from Sonson's Monarchy. Yep. Say, he was all. Chief Rockjaw. Chief Brokejaw was all, yeah,
Starting point is 00:08:42 so we had it, the people before us had it, and then the Red Man, they had it and fought over it. And then I was like, hey, I remember thinking like, yeah,
Starting point is 00:08:50 I was like, at first I was like, that line just was like instantly cued. Like, why are they saying that? Why did he just say that? Of course. I should have known. They were foreshadowing something coming up soon. We're going to find out that they actually had the 15-year-old neighbor of Robert Kirkman writing all these. You just write them.
Starting point is 00:09:09 And that's what's going to happen. I'll give you 10 grand a week. Just write them. Yeah. Just shut up and just write something. So that's the only thing that makes sense. Is that really their, that's their future is Cowboys versus Indie? Seriously? That's the plot. Cowboys versus...
Starting point is 00:09:24 If they can all stay in one place. This is a group that cannot stay together to save their life, literally. What's her name? Nick's girlfriend, gone. Strand, gone. It's only... Strand had... Strand had some balls going back to the hotel. Well, he's playing the long game on that one.
Starting point is 00:09:43 I mean, I'm surprised that... Actually, I'm surprised that something really bad happened at the hotel, right? I mean, that... Obviously, yeah. I mean, there's no... That should not have been that way. You know, they... Who'd they leave in charge down there?
Starting point is 00:09:56 The woman... Yeah. They left a woman in charge. What did they leave that off with last? They were starting to let in some people to use medical facilities? Yeah. Because Strand said he was a doctor. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:07 He was lying to. So they opened up that floodgate. So I guess more and more people were... I don't know. Let us in. So actually, he was the purpose for... Yeah. It's safe to assume at this point that anything Strand says is a lie.
Starting point is 00:10:19 Mm-hmm. He's pretty much lied from the get-go about everything. And Daniel should have killed him. I didn't see the point of taking him all the way down there. I mean, I guess Daniel thought, okay, maybe she's still alive. But he knew Stram was lying. If he didn't know Stram was lying, he wasn't very good at his job when he was a fixer or whatever he was with the CIA.
Starting point is 00:10:40 Yeah, it went from you would say anything for your life to, hey, let's get in the car, go down to the hotel and see. It's like Bill and Ted's an excellent adventure. and made no sense. We're going to drive all the way. I know you're lying, but we're driving all the way down there so I can throw you to a horde of walkers,
Starting point is 00:10:56 despite the fact that we're going to pass several hordes on the way that I could toss you to. And by the way, I'm going to stop here and let the one horde pass through. I'm not going to drive through. Right. Just going to sit here for a little while and make your bladder suffer.
Starting point is 00:11:09 Because I don't... The stupidest plot line right there. Because I don't want to put a dent on this car. Is that... Yeah, that's what he said. And then if they cut to that other shot of the car when he's peeing off the... And it's deaded all along the...
Starting point is 00:11:19 the side anyway. Did you guys notice how ridiculous that conversation was? No, I want to let the flock go by. No, I really love this car, but I have to pee. Oh, no, okay. What? But I have to pee. Welcome, welcome to my side of the sense. Our CIA strong guy. Yeah. Yeah. I'm this perfectly trained CIA warrior, but I really have to pee. See, really bad. We get there so I can get out of the car. Are we there yet? Are we there yet? And was it just me? Did he not? He got right out of the car and peed right now.
Starting point is 00:11:53 Who does that? You don't pee right next to the car. You take two or three steps away. What did your father teach you better than that? You don't pee next to the car. And that's what he was doing. He peed right. I mean, his butt was up against the door.
Starting point is 00:12:05 Well, but on the flip side, he had to pee really bad. Right, but that means he had to get out, shut the door back up with his buddy. I know, but have you ever, if you've had to pee really bad at that, I have. Do you know how difficult and painful it is? Yes. So you need to. If you're not leaning up against the car, you're down on your knees next to a bush
Starting point is 00:12:25 and a building. Huh. Is that what happened that one time? I'm just saying that it's possible that some people could be like that. All right. It's possible. Absolutely possible. Or you're driving home and you really have to be really bad.
Starting point is 00:12:37 You get stuck on a bridge. Yeah. In Florida. You don't have your big mug with you or you don't have a soda, can. I would be right next to the car. You don't want to get out on the bridge with other humans around. I mean, some people have reported doing that.
Starting point is 00:12:52 Right. I've heard of people doing that. But, I mean, I don't know anyone who's done that by the first news reports. Take that first exit and find the first building that has some sort of bushes and exit off of it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:06 And the fascinating thing is actually talking about peeing on a bridge is more interesting than fear the walking dead. Don't you remember when Otto held up the gun? I knew you're going to go there because I'm like, you know, actually, that's a good story. I should tell that story. When Otto held up the gun and looked at Nick and said, you're not this. And I wanted to, it was the, threw it on the ground.
Starting point is 00:13:29 My dad's not a cell phone. That's what I was thinking of. I know I'm not a gun. I'm Nick. That's where I thought he was going to say next. You're not this. But if he's not that, then why did he bring the gun back to him? Because he said every household needs a gun.
Starting point is 00:13:44 That's his belief. So he was letting Nick know that this was his home. Yeah. I mean. They gave, why didn't he give Nick the house with no roof? Because Nick knew how to make it better because his dad was a contractor. I forgot about that.
Starting point is 00:13:58 Okay. And now it has sit-free walls. And he was the only one that he was the only one that stepped in and took it. Right. Because he knew how to fix it. Why did they get real Luciano like that? She's got to, that's got to be some kind of plot line.
Starting point is 00:14:14 She probably has a part on the new Star Trek. Does she? I don't know. By Sasha left Walking Dead. Oh, yeah. I mean, surely they're not just getting... Surely it's... That's a vehicle to introduce something else.
Starting point is 00:14:28 I mean, because that's a whole lot of story that they developed for that. For nothing. Yeah, what is she done in the last three episodes? Nothing. Nothing. Nothing but complained. She's been there sick.
Starting point is 00:14:39 But for three... Nothing but she's... I want to go. I can't live here. Shut up. gets better in leaves. I mean, it really wasn't that bad. No, it wasn't. The kid was obviously a douche for, you know, everything they did. But I mean, it was, it was obviously, like, in this time, like, and we've seen from the Walking Dead, there's the governors out there, there's the
Starting point is 00:14:57 Negan's out there. You find a place like this, you put down roots. Well, they haven't, we, we haven't been long enough to really have the governor and Negan's develop yet, right? I mean, those guys are just developing now. That's where we're at now, right? In theory. It just doesn't seem like, it seems like these people are tolerable. I don't know why she was so quick to say we got to get out of here. Where are you going to go, lady? There's nowhere to go.
Starting point is 00:15:22 And then plus they've gone everywhere else and left everywhere else and made a big old circle. I don't know. That's because we're missing. They're not getting reports of what's actually happened. I think that they're still believing that something is going to be better for them.
Starting point is 00:15:37 There's still life out there as it kind of used to be. Yeah, no. And then we ran into Chief Red Hawk or whatever his name is. Okay, I will say that that was a, I will give it. Oh, his name was Walker. Is it? Walker.
Starting point is 00:15:54 Yeah. Which another joke, I guess. The bird pecking the dude's brain. Yeah, that was great. Best dad, give him credit for that. That was, that was worthy of walking. Yeah, that was dope. Yeah, the crow, the crow brain feed was really good.
Starting point is 00:16:07 And the mercy killing was equally gruesome. Yeah, it was really good. Showed the knife going into it. Going into the brain. It was really good. It's practiced for Walking Dead. That's what it was. Let's try this effect.
Starting point is 00:16:17 Yeah, it'll work. Okay. Yeah. And then the Daryl wannabe. Who? Yeah, with the Bowen. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:25 Having to save Madison's bacon. So, seriously, that brings us back to the point. Is this really going to be Cowboys and Indians? That's the plot. Looks that way. Right? So he's wanting to do this because he wants to reclaim the territory. Because Otto from...
Starting point is 00:16:38 He's saying it's my land now. It's a free... And since it's a free... you know, wide open, wild, wild west, again, he's going to reclaim his land. That just seems stupid. I'm sorry. When I saw that, I was hoping it was going to be like, I don't know, like a, I don't know. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:16:56 Anything about that? Something worthwhile, I mean. I was like, maybe it's a group like, you know, Negan-style group or something like that. They shot it down with some military weaponry or something. But they didn't even explain that, did they? No, that was the whole point, right? Then he made them while Madison was trying to be badass about shooting down my husband. You got me involved.
Starting point is 00:17:16 I shoot down my husband. Yeah. They didn't explain any of that. They just said take your shoes off and walk the hell out of here. So you notice they still didn't show Travis in that pile. No. I thought maybe we'd see it in there. A sucker still alive, man.
Starting point is 00:17:29 I thought maybe we'd see it in there. Then why wouldn't they show his face there? No way did he fall out of the helicopter from that high. If he lived. All the bodies were there in that pile but his. he's still I know he went on the bottom they showed faces in that pile
Starting point is 00:17:42 and we didn't see them dig through the pile which was a little disappointing because I thought they would you know at least well she would yeah she so would that's what I thought
Starting point is 00:17:50 that's a scene that should have happened when they first came on that burning pile she would have dug through that for Travis yeah it made as much sense as Otto telling Nick about why he about the gun thing
Starting point is 00:18:03 when he said I was hunting I was hunting deer and I always do my off. How do you do that with a rifle? Well, let's see, when you're drunk, that happens to a lot of people. You ever deer hunt, Brad? How do you, you know, how do you, to do that with a rifle? Do you know what you'd have to do?
Starting point is 00:18:19 Yes. You'd have to turn it this way. No. There's no way you'd be able to shoot anything off between your legs. Maybe he was doing the bull dance with the rifle, you know, like the... Even that, you'd still... He was drunk. He tripped and fell.
Starting point is 00:18:33 He almost shot his... So what you're saying is that that was just... He didn't really literally mean it. He just meant, you know, he almost shot himself. You're drunk. That happened in the mid-deer hunting season. People shooting their feet off all the damn time. He didn't say feet.
Starting point is 00:18:48 He didn't say feet. Well, I realized that. That's what I'm saying. But had I been out of the woods and fell and shot myself in the leg, it sounds better. Yeah, I almost shot my dick off. I don't know how. Just that was the first picture that came to mind. How do you do it with a rifle?
Starting point is 00:19:04 Unless, of course, he was hunting. deer with a pistol, which you don't do. You do if you're drunk. Right. Right. Anyway. Yeah. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:19:16 A whole lot of this shows. I missed the subtitles from last week. So you can look down at your phone. Thank you. This episode was great. This was the best. Of all the episodes in the last week, this was the best one, I thought. Seriously?
Starting point is 00:19:32 Of all the episodes in the last week, yes. Stop it. What? it was it was the best one of the last week oh right no i got it took it took him a while i can't help i thought he takes him to catch up okay i'm not here for him to catch up i'm not here for him to catch up i already said stop it okay oh we didn't even talk about the ophelia what jake romance or whatever oh right it's a little taking a look here a little business little business No, it's Alicia.
Starting point is 00:20:07 Alicia. Ophelia's still missing. Who cares? Right. All these faceless characters. She goes off, she takes care of a little business. Won't read Homeboy's book. That was tremendous.
Starting point is 00:20:20 What's the word? No. Which the title of the poem or the book was actually the title of the episode, wasn't it? Right, yes. Which I can't remember. So he, burning and fire, drowning in water. No, the opposite. Drowning and fire, burning.
Starting point is 00:20:32 And she just hands it back to us. That's tremendous. She didn't talk about taking a hit the... I don't. And again, she used him for sex, is what you're saying. Yeah, just a toy. Oh, man. I know.
Starting point is 00:20:45 I hate it when that happens. But, I mean, he's already. She took care of some business because he was in love after, man. And then I thought when she jumped off the cliff... I was so happy. I thought, oh, she... This is it. She's depressed about...
Starting point is 00:20:59 There's nothing. She's going to be gone. Water. Now it's all safe. Now they're just teasing us. Right. See, that's... Right.
Starting point is 00:21:06 And I'm sure the uproar is overwhelming on them. You can't kill them. You can't... Oh, wait. No, because everybody's like, why didn't you kill him? Why didn't you kill them? That would have been good.
Starting point is 00:21:17 If they had wiped out the entire principal cast, except for Daniel. Yeah. He's the only one. And hell, they don't want to stay together anyway. None of them stay together, so why not wipe them all out? Yeah, that's another thing.
Starting point is 00:21:30 They're all constantly splitting up and walking away and... Yes. So? Talk about a loose-knit group. Right. Madison's struggling, trying to keep them together thinking it's something. I don't understand it.
Starting point is 00:21:41 I really don't. And I don't understand how she is, struggles to keep them together, pretending that it's some big, loving family, but they want nothing to do with it. The more we know this family, the better our chances of survival. What?
Starting point is 00:22:03 When she said that, what? It made no sense. Nothing she says makes sense. Annie, I was so high on this show after last week. I really thought it was going to get better. I wasn't to this dude from Forbes's point. But I mean, at least it's watchable.
Starting point is 00:22:21 You know, maybe it's getting more. Maybe they're going to be spending the next three episodes or whatever developing characters out. I was like, that'd be cool. It made you care. And what was really cool is that I ended up last night, you know how they run last week's episode prior to this week's, the new one.
Starting point is 00:22:35 And I caught the last, I caught the last, like, seven or eight minutes of last week's episode, which was tremendous. So I was all half high again, looking forward to this week's episode. Won, won, won, waw, wall, wall, this is fear, talking fear on the Blaze Radio Network. See you next week. Makes you miss the real one, doesn't it?
