Starting point is 00:00:00 Season four, episode five, titled Laura. This is Jeff Fisher. Joining me on the cast today, Brad Staggs, Jason Butchell and Maximus Fisher. Of course, Jason on special assignment this week, off in some foreign land. So he will be joining us next week. But that makes this talking fear. Okay. Episode five.
Starting point is 00:00:42 Laura. Now, for those of you that are just waking up from the episode. Actually, it was better than I thought. Oh, boy. Except for the fact that it is named after one of my ex-wives. That was kind of a trigger for me. Did she remind you of one of your ex-wives for a while there? No.
Starting point is 00:01:01 Because she reminded me of. She did have a few moments there where you wanted to take those rubber galoshes and hit her upside the head with it. Absolutely. And I found it as we struggled through her time. with John. Yes. Dory, like the fish. No why.
Starting point is 00:01:20 He's lovable. He's lovable. You just want to take you, but love him and pet him and make it. Yes. He's just, yeah, he's just.
Starting point is 00:01:28 And they could have, you know, they could have absolutely stayed at his house for a long time, even after the horde came. Yeah. They'd go back, they could have gone back to the town.
Starting point is 00:01:37 And why wouldn't, I was thinking this, if all the, you know, I don't know how long, this was a while ago, so this was at the beginning of,
Starting point is 00:01:44 the beginning of the disease? Was it? I don't think it was. I don't either. I don't think so either. Yeah, I didn't get the, I didn't get the feeling that it was all that in the too distant past.
Starting point is 00:02:05 I don't know. Maybe I'm wrong. But then, then, so you're wrong. Am I? Because the store was still fully stocked. That was the one thing that I did. Why and why wouldn't John felt comfortable enough to be able to not go back every other day or every day and load up and bring those goods
Starting point is 00:02:24 back to his home? Well, because he's a good guy and he didn't want to hoard everything. I mean, he would have said, look, I'm leaving stuff here because other people are going to come in and they need things. He was still putting his name on the rental list. He was. He's a good guy. All the things that lead you to believe he was a good guy. Cleans a mean gun.
Starting point is 00:02:42 Stupid. You know where he learned how to spin those guns, don't you? No. Deadwood. on Deadwood. And he finished that. He paid two characters on Deadwood. Do you know that?
Starting point is 00:02:55 Which ones? He played the guy that shot Wild Bill Hookock. Yeah, see, you didn't know that, did you? Because I went, and he played the, yes, it was. And he played the assistant to the governor, whatever that was, the crooked government official that came in. Or was he government, he was assistant to somebody. And remember, he came in and he came in and be.
Starting point is 00:03:19 up a couple. Oh, he was assistant. No, he was assistant to the Hearst. Okay. The rich guy. The bad rich guy. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:26 That was clearly him. Yes. And then the guy that, the guy that killed while Bill Hickok, that was him too. No, it was not. Yes, it was. No, it was not.
Starting point is 00:03:33 Look it up. It was. He was the only actor to play two characters in that show. Incredible character actor and very lovable. Yeah, but actually, that I think about it, it was. It was it. It's the eye.
Starting point is 00:03:46 The weird thing, and here's what they did, I noticed in Deadwood, and this is more fascinating than a lot of this stuff. So anyway, In Deadwood, because his left eye is kind of, it squints more, it's kind of lazy. They would reverse his close up sometimes, so it would make it the right eye just so it would throw with the other character. It was, go back and watch.
Starting point is 00:04:03 That's a pretty good idea. It is a good idea. These are things I notice. I am Mr. Details. And you sent me sets of, of cowboy sets this weekend, you know, little vacation spots that are. Oh, yeah. Yes, I did. I set you the, uh, no of the ranch.
Starting point is 00:04:19 I'm taking it that's where they filmed. That was the saloon, yes. And Westworld and everything. And the Cowboys did you see. But I digress. What were you going to say about the walkers falling off the bridge? Because I think it's the same thing I was going to say. Well, hey, I didn't understand it really.
Starting point is 00:04:36 They were after they were, they were, all of a sudden we parked the Jeep there. Then they wanted to. Yeah, I didn't understand. Are you kidding me? Walker, the guy was dead already. Yeah. I didn't understand that either. understand that and why are there more of them coming I mean now just because you blocked it off
Starting point is 00:04:56 right it's it didn't really make a lot of we're able to we're able to canoe up to the dock yeah and stroll along and go up and see bills bill's party store and pick up a can of soup and sign out of VHS yeah but we put a Jeep in front of what was a crash on a bridge, what definitely had to have been there for a while. Yes. Right? I mean, because ever so often one would walk into the water. That's how they washed up to the cabin.
Starting point is 00:05:29 Yep. And now they put a Jeep there and... All of a sudden, the walkers just want to, there, I don't know, it didn't make any sense to me either. They did not. No. It made zero sense. And the whole time, yeah, in the whole time of the Laura John...
Starting point is 00:05:49 in the cabin where he's taking care of her. She's healing, you know, she's healing from the wound. I get the companionship because, you know, lack of options. Right. And I get the, hey, you know, we could be the last two people on Earth,
Starting point is 00:06:10 so I love you. Right. I mean, she's not bad. But she was never gave him anything to love. It was agonizing. No. But he's a simple guy. and, you know, she's reasonably attractive.
Starting point is 00:06:23 And actually when she did wash up on his doorstep, basically in the canoe, you know what he got right then. Was instant Dharma. It's like instant karma, but she used to play Dharma on Dharma and Greg. Oh, God. I've been waiting to. Thank you. I should just quit right now.
Starting point is 00:06:41 Good night, Cleveland. That was good. You heard the show was Why didn't you Well, yeah, but you don't Yes, you're right. If you were going to take it all at one time. But his deal was
Starting point is 00:07:12 Every Tuesday is shopping day. Yeah. So why wouldn't you Instead of, oh, I don't know, clean your gun on Thursday, go Tuesday on Thursday, fill up two or three bags and couldn't do it back home?
Starting point is 00:07:28 Because he only took what he needed. So you're pissing me off. If everybody did. That was good. The thing, if everybody acted that way, it would be, obviously, it would work. The system would work, but not everybody acts that way. You know, so somebody else is going to come in there and clean out the store. And then he's going to go, well, wait a minute.
Starting point is 00:07:48 He's trying to do everything right. Right. You're surprised I'd actually see him at a TV. Did you know who the two people on that TV were when you, did you notice the movie he was watching? I don't remember the stupid old. It was a Hopen-Crosby movie. It was a road movie. I think the road to Singapore.
Starting point is 00:08:08 Those are good movies. Those are classics. Very good movies, yes. Those are classics with the Bob Hovon. Yes, very good movies. Yes, the dangers of playing Scrabble by oneself. It just never works out very well. No, it does not.
Starting point is 00:08:24 You wander around saying words. The official armed clock? That was the Billy Bass. The Billy Bass. That was really good. It's, I don't, the whole, these episodes, when you have two likeable,
Starting point is 00:08:39 well, she was likable, yes, semi-likable. He's likable, she was semi-likable. And why is it that they are more interesting to watch than anybody who was on the show? I was thinking about this last night, really what I would have liked to have seen.
Starting point is 00:08:54 We have three episodes left. Before the summer break. Right. All right. So I was thinking about this last night is that what I really, would have liked to have seen and you know next time fear call me I'm available just you know you have my number give me a call and I'll let you know I know
Starting point is 00:09:11 this anytime should be done yeah what I really would have liked to see the episode was an extended episode as it was so we could have just made it an hour two hour episode and or an hour and a half but I would have like to have seen the the backstory of and I'm okay with getting the backstory of John and Instant Dharma and the, but I would have liked to have seen the backstory. We already know Morgan, where he's at. So that backstory, I would have really liked to have seen the backstory of, I really would like to see the backstory on the rest of the crew, you know, since the explosion of the dam
Starting point is 00:09:57 and the bridge. Oh, right. Because all of a sudden we went from time leap. Yeah. We went to now, and now we're going back to John. we don't care about them. Well, that's kind of it. I really don't.
Starting point is 00:10:10 Strand is carrying around a rock from the dam that's supposed to remind us of the explosion. Right. It reminds him of somebody he used to be. Yeah. Right after the explosion. Did she wash that part of it? I all remembers that.
Starting point is 00:10:29 Yeah, she washed up with the immigrants or whatever. All the, all the people from the, that were waiting to get into the dam. Oh, that's right, that's right. After the bad lands. And by the way, I have a little side note of that too, but go ahead. Oh, good. But does anybody care?
Starting point is 00:11:01 Right, why make us wait for that? Because that's not. I just, I don't. We've already made the leap. Let's just show what happened and move on. I mean, Alicia, I don't really care about. What's his girlfriend, Nick's girlfriend's name? What's her?
Starting point is 00:11:16 Luciana. And Madison, she's dead anyway, so who cares? And we may just, Madison and Nick, Madison and Nick, they've rammed down our throats. And Nick was absolutely better than Madison. Yes. And they've killed him. Yes.
Starting point is 00:11:33 The dad was absolutely turning into a great character on the show. They killed him. Well, he had started to become. He was just such a snoozer. I know that, but he had started to at least turn around a little bit. And they killed him. In the very beginning, we had the one kid, I'm still mad at him for killing off,
Starting point is 00:11:52 the one black kid. Oh. The one black kid, the drug dealer for Nick, that the parents knew, they went, and he was such a good character. I forgot. It would have been a great character
Starting point is 00:12:04 to bring along in the show. And it was like the second show or whatever they killed him. And what was the other kid, Nick's, was it Nick's brother? Yeah, it was like the stepbrother. Who's the one that got killed? the other brother.
Starting point is 00:12:18 Remember he went out in the jeep? Oh yeah, yeah. What was he? Right. I don't care. I never cared about him. I didn't really either, but he's, I mean,
Starting point is 00:12:26 they're just knocking him off. He fell in love with the soldier girl or whatever, right? Yes. Yeah. In the city. They're just, the funny thing is, is now they've got the three characters
Starting point is 00:12:38 that are really likable between Bob Morgan and John Dory with an I, E, not a Y. And Laura. Instant Dharma. She's dead. We got Al, right? That's true.
Starting point is 00:12:49 Yeah. Well, we don't know if she's dead. Who's that? Yeah. Naomi Laura. Okay, but well, probably. Right? He's got the,
Starting point is 00:13:00 him flipping, having both guns now means she's dead. Yeah. Unless we find her again. No, she's dead. She's dead. Although that,
Starting point is 00:13:08 you know what? That would actually be a nice little plot twist if they did find her. Because you're right. They just said she didn't make it out. So maybe they She's still alive in the stadium Maybe she like Eugene was able to bury herself
Starting point is 00:13:20 While handcuffed underneath a pile of ashes After Barfoot Mac had she By the way Well by the way somebody did bring up the point I was watching a review somewhere and they said Okay one of the main attributes of Daryl is what his ability to I and he runs right by a guy hiding under a pile of ashes That was able to bury himself in about
Starting point is 00:13:44 10 seconds. And it looked at the time like when they made that turn. Yeah. There was no, I mean, there would have been some poof, you know, some dust. Anyway, I digress. Yes. It was very, that was a. Yes.
Starting point is 00:13:58 That was definitely a. Yeah. Yeah. But so John, and I love John Dory and his little candies. I mean, that's just a very, very endearing. And then he made like a little thing. Mm-hmm. Yep.
Starting point is 00:14:11 He's a very handy guy. Then my question was, would you be able to stitch up yourself? Yes. Max, could you do it all the time? Would you be able? No, no, no, I'm not saying, I'm not saying in theory. I'm saying, would you, if you had a cut bad enough that it had to be stitched,
Starting point is 00:14:28 could you stitch yourself up? Max. I know. I'm not asking about the supply. You have no supplies. Can you, would you be able to look down at that cut and go, okay, here I go. No, I'm saying you as. You. Not in theory.
Starting point is 00:14:46 You, you, you. Could you do it? I don't, man, that would hurt. I just don't know if I could, I'd have to have somebody else do it. Little wuss. Could you do it? You couldn't. I've done it before. Right.
Starting point is 00:15:05 Right. Right. When we stormed the island of spice. Right. You had there was a. If you had no other choice, yes, I would probably be able to do it. We had to make our own cat gut. We had to grind our own needles.
Starting point is 00:15:20 It was tough, but we did it. Meant the purifier? Oh. Oh, he did, didn't he? That's how he was able to watch the Hoping Crosby movie. Yes. And just remember, soup is the blanket of food. I did like that.
Starting point is 00:15:41 I did, too. That's a good line. That's a good line. He has a little western. This little Western show that he worked out That's how he was spinning the guns and stuff He just did that for fun His little west
Starting point is 00:15:54 Wait, that's how it part I did fall asleep at some point When he was first talking to What's your face? Dharma That he was talking about The guns Right
Starting point is 00:16:10 And he worked at a Western show Oh that's right yeah right And he just did that for fun And he did the kids And it was just It was just from him, but he was that, those are the guns that he used. Yes. When he shot the criminal.
Starting point is 00:16:22 Right. He felt bad. He said he was coming home one day from the show, right? It wasn't. He felt bad. Right. Yeah. Some guy was robbing a police store?
Starting point is 00:16:36 Gas station. A police gas station. I do want one of her t-shirts, the Reginald's eggery. That was kind of cool. Yeah, that was kind of cool. I mean, those are neat shirts. It took me a long, long time to figure out. what it said but by golly I was you put your spectacles on I put my spectacles on I said I'm going to
Starting point is 00:16:56 find out what what television show that she's wearing on her shirt there it's reginaldegory I've watched all the episodes of that one yeah that was nice so that was one of the things that he loved yeah that was nice I mean that was a little role a relationship there it was really creepy though when she turned to him after waiting, staring at him while he was asleep and said, I lost my child. I know. That was creepy.
Starting point is 00:17:27 Creepy. It was creepy. I lost my child. I'm going to bed now. It was just weird. I mean, she just, I just woke up. Who gives her?
Starting point is 00:17:38 And I had to go back. Did she say I lost my child? Huh. Yeah, she did. Well, I mean, that's what made her so, made a freak out, right? I guess. And her line of one continuous loop gave her away as a nurse, I guess.
Starting point is 00:17:56 Right, right. That was what John said. You about a nurse or a doctor? Yeah, oh yeah, because she knew the intricacies of someone herself. Right. Well, she knew the intricacies of. Yeah, we don't know. Right?
Starting point is 00:18:13 We don't know that. Well, we did never, ever find that out. Something sharp, I'm guessing. I mean. No, usually. Maybe it was she caused something sharp causes something like that. She floated down the river and into a, she didn't float with the canoe because that was his canoe, right? So she just came along there and fell into it or whatever.
Starting point is 00:18:31 So she obviously she felt she hit something sharp in the river. Yeah, probably. That's what I'm going with. But. Yeah, probably. And then picked herself up to the canoe. Now, the part that bothered me was when he jumped into the moat. Me too.
Starting point is 00:18:47 Did that not bug you? I was like, what? That is the dumbest thing you could ever do. Yes. Why would you do that? Okay, I understand why you don't use the guns right now. Right. But why would you jump in the boat?
Starting point is 00:19:00 It made no sense. Why would you take you? I actually said, that's dumb. What are you doing? It's almost like he wanted to be buried by Walker. Yes. That didn't make any sense. It made zero sense whatsoever.
Starting point is 00:19:14 You don't, yeah. I mean, you don't want all of them falling on you. don't want to be at the bottom of the heap. It didn't make any sense. It didn't make any sense at all why he would jump in there like that. But he lived. So I guess it worked for him. Worked for him. So there's moments like that that don't make sense. Maybe they're fixing them. Yeah. Yeah. But I don't get him. No. Right. And she actually, she got swam. She got swagger. How she ended up getting swarmed like that was strange too. That a bit forced.
Starting point is 00:19:57 A bit forced. It was a bit forced, but it made him face his demon of shooting somebody or near somebody. And he was great with the six shooters, 12 bullets. And I mean, any of us who, any of you, like me, have been in Western shows like that. Yeah. You know how difficult it is once you give it up. to bring it back and get it back. Yeah, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:20:23 Absolutely. You lose a little bit of the touch. Well, that's why it's so important to get the I-Target Pro system and be able to practice your trick shots from anywhere in your home. At it's at I-Targetpro. That we'll give up a free one anyway. Yeah. Thank you, I-Target Pro.
Starting point is 00:20:38 In hopes. All right, so I'd also like to talk a little bit about before we wrapped this up, because we've talked, we've made this show more interesting than it is, I guarantee you. I saw the story. If you'll remember, I was talking about it. I was talking about the ratings for fear have been fairly good for fear and for the Sunday night episodes. They had pretty good numbers. Just this season?
Starting point is 00:21:01 Yeah. Okay. And the ratings for the death of Nick way up the days after. I forget what they call that. They call it live plus seven or something like that. It's actually only like three or four days. They count. Okay.
Starting point is 00:21:17 But anyway, yes. Go to the live show and then the, shoot, I can open up the link. I can't remember exactly what they call it. But it's a, you know, the after shows, the uptale, whatever it is. That's what they call it. Yeah, the after show stuff. The after show stuff. It's a technical term.
Starting point is 00:21:35 Don't try it at home. But one of the things that they did say in the story that I found fascinating is what we talked about here is that AMC shoving badlands down everybody's throat. Right. not working. People are pissed. They just go away. Those ratings for Badlands are not good. And if you're Chris Hardwick, and I know I'm actually using his name and the show of Talking Dead, just this once because I'm on his side.
Starting point is 00:22:03 Right. How pissed he would be because his ratings are way down because everybody goes away. Yeah. Yeah. No one's going to stick around through. For fear. Right. They do, walking dead more so.
Starting point is 00:22:15 but for fear why do they I wonder why they decided to do that thinking that they were going to and all it's done is piss people off yeah it does because it's it first of all we're smart enough to know in today's world that you're doing that for ratings okay when you did it the first time
Starting point is 00:22:33 it was I thought was we were under the impression at least I was that it was you were giving us the first episode and then and then the rest of the time right here's when you watch watch it. Yeah. But that's not what they've been doing.
Starting point is 00:22:48 They've just been shoving it down our throats and people are going away. Like, no. And it's two different audiences, really. I mean, that into the badlands doesn't even really appeal to me at all. No, it does. I tried to get into it. Actually, I thought, all right.
Starting point is 00:23:01 I'll give it a shot, but it's too far-fetched. Like the Walking Dead is real life, okay? I mean, that's crazy. You know, those, they no one can throw a knife like that. Thank you. Exactly. Thank you. That's just nuts.
Starting point is 00:23:16 The whole, this whole magic and everything. Yeah, it's nuts. We're talking about a disease that are... Back to the dead coming to life. I want to talk about something with substance. But I hope... Right. It just doesn't...
Starting point is 00:23:31 Yeah, you're right. You know, I've never seen... Well, no, I've seen one episode of that. Wow. I know. I'm waiting to binge it. It's on my list. It's worth a binge.
Starting point is 00:23:42 It's on my list. It's worth the binge. Why? Well, I mean, that was the setup for the home that was the he was telling Morgan the whole story. That's how we got the story Yeah, yeah and they also the you can't tell me that you won't believe that we should just kill and fight We have to live our lives the other way you could look me in the eye and tell me that I can't I can't So let's hold hands and shuffle off together until the sunset Shut up.
Starting point is 00:24:23 It was close. Every now and then Morgan does go. And you can understand that, I mean, some people would in that, in that situation, some people are going to go down the road of, didn't we, didn't the guy in the news recently who was talking about how if somebody broke into his house and shot at him, would he shoot back? Nope. Right. So there are people out there just like that.
Starting point is 00:24:47 There absolutely are. And Morgan is not saying that he's not going to fight. or kill. That's not their main purpose. Their main goal isn't to fight and kill. It's to at least try to create a life and bring people in. I got it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:03 I got it. But, you know, I just wanted them to kiss and get it over with. Well, Strand would be jealous. It's going to do what? You're right. Yeah, it's kind of like the love affair between Kirk and Spock.
Starting point is 00:25:22 Oh, yeah. It's going to be a love affair. between Morgan and. Oh, they are. That last night was the perfect love affair. And then they just shuffled off down the road, two loving hobos. Right.
Starting point is 00:25:36 That's a good point. Morgan does have a thing for cops, isn't he? Whoa. Brown chicken, brown cow. Just saying. Just saying. Thanks for being here. This is talking fear.
Starting point is 00:25:50 I definitely, definitely thank you for being. here. Wow, you can't get these last 30 minutes back either. Seriously, but just remember, factually, it was better than the show.
