Starting point is 00:01:07 At the big hurricane, we'll talk to, we'll get a report from Florida. First landfall of a hurricane in Florida in 11 years. I was part of those 11 and 12 years ago hurricanes in Florida. It seemed like they would never end. I was working for a station in Tampa. 970 WFLA, the mothership. And, of course, we were in Operation Stormwatch. And it just, it seemed like we were in operation.
Starting point is 00:01:41 It seemed like we were in, I got to say it right, if when I say it, Operation Stormwatch. All the time from the beginning of hurricane season to the end of hurricane season. And maybe before and after. And we were always one year, I mean, my daughter was born the first day of hurricane season. June 1st. And I remember, you know, that was we always broadcast from our bunker, the Hurricane bunker on first day of hurricane season to let you know that we've got a place to go. And we'll be on the air as long as we can for Operation Stormwatch.
Starting point is 00:02:22 So I'm sure they were. They were probably in Operation Stormwatch mode in Tampa this past week, for sure the last couple of days. So we'll get a report on Hurricane Hermine, Hermione, whatever they're calling that thing. and see what happens. But I just was doing a little report about Florida and FEMA, I believe, states like Florida, if you don't coming up, no climate change planning, no money. Isn't that special?
Starting point is 00:02:54 Now, this story reads from the Tampa Bay Times that it's tougher for governors to deny man-made climate change. Starting next year, the agency will approve disaster preparedness funds only for states whose governors approve hazard mitigation plans that address climate change. That is absolutely agonizing. Okay? Environmentalists have been pressing FEMA to include global warming and its hazard mitigation guidelines for almost three years. It issued draft rules last October and officially reached the new procedures last week.
Starting point is 00:03:38 as the partisan politics around climate change has been intensifying. Hasn't it? Hasn't it been intensifying? Yes. Yes, it has. Okay. The challenges posed by climate change, such as more intense storms, and as I say, such as more intense storms,
Starting point is 00:04:03 just don't forget that the first hurricane in 11 years just made landfall in Florida. frequent heavy precipitation, heat waves, drought, extreme flooding, higher sea levels could significantly alter the types of magnitudes of hazards impacting states in the future. Yeah, FEMA, it's called weather. And then we see the story out of Louisiana, where people that are self-reliant and locals who are helping. You saw Mercury 1 was down there. Mercury 1.org, by the way. down there and these people were going out of their way to help each other.
Starting point is 00:04:50 Okay? Remember, we called them Cajun Navy helping people down there. They began cooking, donating food. Others helped flood victims begin gutting their homes. Then, of course, the government came and said, uh, no, no, don't. No, we don't want you doing that because we want to make sure that you get the right permits and everything is right. Yeah, no. No, if you're going to be rescuing people, we've got to charge and we've got to take care of that.
Starting point is 00:05:29 So don't you do anything without the government. So any time that you do hear, hello, we're from the government and we're here to help. All right. Good luck with that.
