Starting point is 00:00:30 prefrontal cortex, a brain region long associated with learning more flexible behaviors, can sometimes block the ability to think outside the box. That's what the new study says. Well, the new study on mice. So science advances, I love science advances, published the finding by biologists at Emory University. It's a surprising result, says Robert Liu, a senior author of the study. and Emery Professor of Biology, we demonstrated that for a particular nature,
Starting point is 00:01:06 uh, holistic behavior in mice, the prefrontal cortex blocks adopting a new and better strategy for solving problems. Thinking out of the preferrial box requires suppressing this executive decision-making part of the brain. The finding may provide insights into other mechanisms involved in human. Yeah, you think so? Uh, animals like people,
Starting point is 00:01:30 and stick with what worked well in the past to achieve a goal, known as a win-stay strategy. Yeah. So when a smarter strategy comes along, you know, we want to learn it, but well, we can't because we can't think outside of the box. Welcome. Welcome to chewing the fat. Fat 5 Plus. All right, so is Chris in the other room? Because we have to get his HR update.
Starting point is 00:02:17 We promised the audience that we'd get his HR update. He had this HR appointment that he talked to us about the other day. Yeah, there he is. All right, Chris Cruz. Yeah, I'm here. So you still have a job. I still do have a job, yes. It has nothing to do with me changing outside.
Starting point is 00:02:38 Oh, okay. So was that something to do with you changing inside? No, because I don't do... Well, I have changed inside a couple of times, but I close the door, even though it's a sliding door. I also close the sliding door. Okay, so it didn't have anything to do with you changing clothes anywhere? No.
Starting point is 00:02:54 In this vicinity. No. Okay, well, that's good. What did it have to do with? Why were you called to HR? What I got to drag it out of you? Well, the problem is that it's a touchy subject. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:03:08 And... Oh, my gosh. Since you were some kind of manager here at Blaze Media. I had a conversation. It's an employee. Yes, I had a conversation with multiple employees. Oh, wow. Yes.
Starting point is 00:03:22 Oh, wow. So, man, there's, I hate HR departments so much. But here's the thing. One thing I do, I will give our HR person some credit. Go ahead, Mr. Corporate. Is that she allowed me to do some inappropriate joking around with her. Oh, really? We did an exercise.
Starting point is 00:03:43 How to talk to an employee. I went through those courses. We ran the HR person off. Okay. So that's a fact. I asked her, you know, some jokes I can't say on the air. So I asked her and then she said, no, after she left, I did get her to laugh. She said, Chris, you can't start it like that.
Starting point is 00:04:05 So I give her another one. I understand where you're coming from. No, you can't start it. You can't do that. Yeah, you can't understand. Just how about you phrase it like this? More gentle. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:18 I just, the HR people drive me insane. Can I, can I, since, seems to be this is like a segment where, like, I just complained. Can we talk about the. It's a segment now. Okay. Can we talk about the United States Postal Service? You know, I love the United States Postal Service. Well, let me rephrase.
Starting point is 00:04:37 I always wanted to be postmaster general. And then I found out that... Just recently, within like what, three, four years ago? Oh, four years. I've always... No, no, no, no. The Board of Governors. Oh, yeah. Then I found out about the Board of Governors. And, you know, I stepped up...
Starting point is 00:04:51 I stepped up what I wanted to do. But I would be happy to be Postmaster General. They definitely need my help. They just had a report about how much money they were losing every year. And they're trying to get more money. They're raising stamp prices every time you turn around. They're talking about shutting down multiple post offices, and they're talking about lessening the days that the post offices are open. Do they mention anything about the new trucks?
Starting point is 00:05:20 They have not, but we did what I remember. I don't have it in front of me, but I know they spent a whole bunch of money on new trucks. New trucks, which they look cool. They have AC and the door actually closes. Yeah, okay. All right. So here's, and I've known your audience, the shoe and the fat audience have heard me complain or praise my male person. She's awesome.
Starting point is 00:05:45 She doesn't sound awesome. Until when she got her brand new truck, Fisher. She got her brand new truck. And the week that she got her brand new truck before she, you know, started to deliver, she had, you know, I know that I know you've seen this in your neighborhood because you have an HOA. I don't have any choice. So I didn't know what this truck did. It was a pickup truck with a stick. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:12 They go around and measure the length of the tree limb. The stick is measuring the length of the trees. Yep. So they can drive. If that, if you had tree limb touches that bar, you're getting a letter. You're getting a letter.
Starting point is 00:06:25 See, I didn't know that. So I did get a letter. So they did that from the USPS. So the USPS did that. Oh my gosh. And they told me that they are holding all. my mail until I fix my tree. How
Starting point is 00:06:38 can they do that? I don't know. And I posted pictures of this online and I did not understand it. My mailbox is not even close to the tree, but okay, it is what it is. I fix it. It's okay. Yeah, because the way
Starting point is 00:06:53 she wasn't delivering to your mailbox at one point because of some shrubbery which didn't exist. Exactly. What I found out was the shrubbery was the tree. It's just the letter doesn't have tree. It has shrubbery. So that's why she was able to use that letter.
Starting point is 00:07:12 Anyways, so I noticed maybe like two to three months ago, a couple of times I was not getting my mail. So then I make sure that my SimpliSafe camera was pointed to the mailbox. And I realized that my neighbor, which he has the right to park wherever the heck he wants on the street, he parked right in front of our mailbox. Well, no, he doesn't have that right. You don't park in front of people's mailboxes. People know that.
Starting point is 00:07:39 That's common courtesy. I don't care. Plus, it's by the driveway. You don't park in front of people's driveways. Anyways, he was not blocking my driver. That's not the whole point of this story. The point of the story is that she decided to just bypass our house every time the car was just in front. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:59 I texted the neighbor. I say, hey, buddy, here's some videos. she's not delivering to us if you're if you're parked in front of my mailboxes and your driveway so he moves out oh dude I'm so sorry I'm like yeah it is what it is yeah I'm so sorry I didn't realize that you know
Starting point is 00:08:17 this was bothering people when it's parked in front of mailboxes in the driveway then I realize on Mondays oh yeah this is about the post office I was not getting my mail on Monday and that's because Mondays is trash day so if When the trash can gets picked up, you know, the guy picks it up and then does the little shaky thing.
Starting point is 00:08:38 Sets it down. He sets it down. Well, he likes to sit it down right in front of the mailbox. So she doesn't deliver. But really, you set the trash cans out in the road or at the end of the driveway? At the end of the driveway. They're not in the road. They're not in the road. But they're at the end of the driveway on the same side as the mailboxes. Yes.
Starting point is 00:09:00 Got it. So yesterday. or the day before whenever we talked about this. Yeah, so Monday. Yeah, Monday, duh. I get an alert from the mail lady because I still have my camera pointed to the mailbox. Yeah, she didn't deliver.
Starting point is 00:09:17 But you know what she did? She pushed my trash can out of the way. Oh, wow. But she didn't deliver. But she didn't deliver. I mean, I get the idea of pushing the trash can out of the way. But she did not deliver. She's got the new truck and she wants to use the bumpers.
Starting point is 00:09:33 She doesn't want a limb from a tree scraping it, but we can scrape the bumpers. But then so if she's moving the, and I love the idea of just pushing the trash can out of the way, but deliver the mail. Deliver the mail. And before you tell me, well, Chris, how do you know how to mail? Well, because she had it in her hands, and I feel like now it's just out of spite. Oh, my gosh. It was in her hands.
Starting point is 00:09:56 And then, well, Chris, how do you know that was not for the other side? Well, because my camera can look at it. and the pile that she pulled for the next door was completely different than the one that she already had in her hands. So, Postmaster General that sits at the board of the governors, I thought your guys' saying was no, no, what is it, no rain, no snow, no sleep. Don't worry about our saying. We will always deliver the mail, but a tree branch and a trash can will stop it. I believe that this postal worker is probably within the straight rules of the United States Postal Service and the union is probably in the right. Then I want to see her in uniform, not in a wife beater and basketball shorts.
Starting point is 00:10:48 A hundred percent agree. If we're going to follow the rules, then I need to see you on the United States Postal Service uniform. And that needs to be brought up. Yes. I mean, that absolutely needs to be brought up. If we're going to play that game, then let's play it from the top. Let's play if everyone gets to play. Yes, because I want to see you in your uniform.
Starting point is 00:11:10 I want to see the super little hat and the stupid little bag. That's got to be in the rule. I have to find out the rules. We have to look at that because that has to be in the rules. Because the people that work at the office, wear the uniform. Yes, they do. Even the stock boys in the back. And they see less people than the postal worker on the street sees.
Starting point is 00:11:28 Yes. Yeah, the postal worker on the street. I mean, just people driving by. Some will say that is the face of the United States Postal Service. Yeah, that is exactly the face of the Postal Service. And why is the face wearing a black wife beater with basketball shorts? Unacceptable, completely unacceptable. And if she can, I love this.
Starting point is 00:11:49 I love this idea. That has to be done. That has to be done. That's unacceptable that she is not representing the Postal service the way it should be represented. And I get it. It's hot in Texas, 105 degrees, but guess what? Your truck has a brand new AC. I don't care if the truck doesn't have AC. You don't see the UPS guys wearing without their uniforms. And they complain about not having any AC all the time. FedEx and UPS? You're absolutely
Starting point is 00:12:17 right. The United States Postal Service has to be represented. That has to be a rule. I doubt the union can fight that. No way. I mean, they can argue that. They can argue that. that the tree limb was too low. They can argue that the trash can needs to be out of the way of the mailboxes. The car was blocking the driveway, but it's completely unacceptable that she's not representing the United States Postal Service in full attire. That's absolutely right. And if I go out and talk to her, how do I, I mean, I'm sure she...
Starting point is 00:12:48 How do I know that you're a postal worker? She has to have a name tag. That has to be worn. I've never seen a name tag on her. Oh, my gosh. Because I've seen her drop stuff off at my front door. And like I said, have Simplicef, which is monitoring 24-7. And I've never seen a badge on her at all.
Starting point is 00:13:05 Or a keychain or anything. All I see is wife-beater and basketball shorts. I want that to happen. That has to be a complaint the next time. All right. I'll keep you updated. All right. Chris Cruz, thank you.
Starting point is 00:13:19 She got broken into again? Holy cow. A man was arrested in connection with a burglary at a Los Angeles. county property owned by Kim Kardashian. Yeah, I know. She gets, her stuff gets broken into all the time. Remember, the Paris robbery was incredible. Deputies responded to the residents in Hidden Hills to investigate reports of a burglary around 3.45 p.m. and officials say security reported the incident, said the suspect was seen driving a vehicle from the property in the area. When deputies arrived, they found a man inside the home, took him into custody without incident.
Starting point is 00:14:14 He was booked into L.A. County Jail on suspicion of burglary. His identity has not been released. Why? Law enforcement sources confirmed to NBC, Los Angeles, that the property owned by Kardashian but shared that is not her primary residence. Yeah, it's just a dump that she, if when friends come to town, I'm sure. They can't stay at the house, and I've got that place for them to, they can live there. And, you know, that's good for the guest to stay there.
Starting point is 00:14:46 And when there's remodeling going on at the main house, we may stay in this residence. So, you know, we like to have it secured and safe. I mean, they can't stop getting broken into. I don't know what's going on. Kim Kardashian's got a real problem with the thievery around her. Plus, let's go back. I want to read this again. So officials say they reported the incident and said the suspect was seen driving a vehicle from the property in the area. But when deputies arrived, they found a man inside the home and took him into custody without incident. So is that the same person? Or is the guy driving the vehicle a different person driving away from the car? the area leaving the other man in the house to get arrested. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:15:40 I don't know. And I don't know why they haven't released a man's name either. So I'll shut up now. Visit BetMGM Casino and check out the newest exclusive. The Price is Right Fortune Pick. BetMGM and GameSense remind you to play responsibly. 19 plus to wager. Ontario only.

BetMGM operates pursuant to an operating agreement with Eye Gaming, Ontario. And as long as we're talking about Hollywood, let's talk about Brad Pitt, shall we? Brad Pitt apparently has started drinking again, and he's been seven years of sobriety. So I don't know why he started drinking again.
Starting point is 00:16:31 The actor said he's approaching drinking. drinking differently. Oh, okay. Describing his alcohol consumption as more limited than before. In a more restrained manner. Yeah, that's the way it works, Brad. You start out with a little and then it begins to build up. That's the way it goes.
Starting point is 00:16:57 He got overconfident a couple of times. And, yep, nope, not good for me. not in big quantities. Pitt also got candid about some of the darkest chapters of his life, revealing there was a brief period when the pain became almost unbearable, and he just didn't see a way out. But I also think we have incredible survival instincts, and for me, that immediately kicked in.
Starting point is 00:17:25 Yeah, that's good, Brad. And I'm glad. I'm glad you're approaching drinking differently now. Said every alcoholic ever that started drinking again. Yeah, I've stopped drinking for quite a while now, but I'm approaching it differently now. Every junkie in America, yeah, I stopped taking the drug. But I'm approaching it differently now that I've decided to start taking it again.
Starting point is 00:17:56 Oh, okay. That always works out well. Wow. Did you see singer Chris Brown pleads guilty? He pleads guilty in that London nightclub altercation case? Okay. The Grammy winning singer reached a plea deal in a case stemming from a 2023 altercation in a London nightclub with the music producer.
Starting point is 00:18:19 Brown pleaded guilty to aphrine exchange for more serious assault charges, with the weapons charges. with the weapon charges being dropped. Okay. The 37-year-old was freed on bail and will be sentenced to October 26th. The affray charge carries a maximum
Starting point is 00:18:44 three-year prison sentence. They're not going to give him three years for that. Now when he made the deal, right? He made the deal. They're not going to give Chris Brown three years in prison, are they? They very well much. So I was looking at this list that popped up in my timeline of the richest comedians.
Starting point is 00:19:08 And, you know, share, I'm clicking on that. I want to see who has all the money, whether it's right or not. And this says Bill Maher is 27th. His net worth is $140 million. What a loser. And apparently he's tied with Steve Martin at $140 million. Is Steve Martin a comedian anymore? I mean, he's more of an actor, writer.
Starting point is 00:19:31 But anyway, he's got it worth $140 million. Then Jeff Dunham is at $140 million. He's tied, too. They're all at $140 million. They need to break out of the pack. Rowan Atkinson is $150 million. So he's broken out of the pack, out of the bottom. So he's done okay.
Starting point is 00:19:51 Then we have Terry Fader. Yeah, okay. He's got $150 million. Wow. No, he's just $160 million. Holy cow. He's tied with Stefan Rab at $160 million. And I don't even know who that is.
Starting point is 00:20:13 Stefan Rab, I guess I probably should know who that is. Once known as the most powerful man on German television. Oh, okay. That's why I'm not familiar with German television. Then we have Drew Carey. Drew Carey is worth $165 million. And who knows if this is right? Ricky Jervais is worth $170 million.
Starting point is 00:20:38 And he's number 20. I have number 19. Bill Murray, worth $180 million. I still am bummed that I've never met Bill Murray. I need to meet Bill Murray. I've called his 800 number before. He hasn't returned my call. Bill.
Starting point is 00:20:56 Bill Murray, I want to meet you. Where are you at? You need to come on chewing the fat. Even if you don't come on chewing the fat, just come by the studios the next time you're in Irving, Texas, and say hello, please. Let me have Steve Harvey. He's at number 14, but he's tied for $200 million.
Starting point is 00:21:14 Yeah, Steve's doing okay for himself. Who's he tied with? Ray Romano. Ray Romano, $200 million. Man, a TV show will do you good. Conan O'Brien. Oh, he's tied with those as well at $200 million. Conan O'Brien is worth $200 million.
Starting point is 00:21:36 Holy cow. Eddie Murphy, $200 million. All right. I thought Eddie was doing better than that. But he kind of stopped for a while, so maybe he's trying to pick up the pace a little bit. And then we get to $200 million. Bill Cosby? Cosby's still worth $200 million.
Starting point is 00:21:54 Man, the Bill Cosby haters have got to hate that. and he's tied at the 14th range. Dan Aykroyd, $250 million. Dan Aykroyd is worth $250 million. Wow. Seth McFarlane, $400 million. Now we're getting into the people that are making some money. Seth McFarland making that kind of money.
Starting point is 00:22:20 Larry David, $400 million to what they claim he's worth. Congratulations. to Larry David. And that's number eight. And then you get to number nine, and the big tie is $400 million, David Letterman. I thought David would be worth more than that.
Starting point is 00:22:41 But okay, congratulations to him at $400 million. Good for you, Dave. Then you have Adam Sandler, $440 million. They claim Adam Sandler is worth. Wow, good for him. Ellen DeGeneres. You know where you love her. $500 million.
Starting point is 00:22:59 Wow. I don't know that I believe that, but good for Ellen. I know that she made an awful lot of money. And then number five, Matt Groening, worth $600 million. Yeah, TV shows are good things. Troy Parker, yeah, worth $1 million. Matt Stone.
Starting point is 00:23:24 Yeah, he's tied at the bill. million dollar mark as well. Yeah, you hate it when you're tied with people like that, right? Oh, did I miss Kevin Hart at $400 million? I think I did. I didn't want to have Kevin get, you know, off the list. I'm sorry, Kevin. I didn't mean to mean to dis you there. Then you have Jay Leno worth $450, $450 million. Then we've got Jerry Seinfeld. And Jerry's at about, well, it says here, 900 million. I think Jerry's over a billion now. And he's tied with Troy
Starting point is 00:24:01 Parker, or Trey Parker at a billion. And the list go, well, Matt Stone, I already mentioned him. Some of this list is and Byron Allen is worth a billion. I think Byron is worth over a billion as well. So congratulations to all the comedians
Starting point is 00:24:17 who are worth so much money. And I don't even know if this list is correct. These comedians would say, I'm not worth $250 million dollars. I'm only worth 150 million. So, you know, it might not be right, but all these guys are
Starting point is 00:24:33 doing fairly well. Be sure to follow me on my social media at Jeffrey JFR on X, Jeff Fisher Radio, on Facebook and Instagram. You can also follow me on a cameo and order a cameo from me at any time at

And you can hear Brad at his little thing that he does so well over there at the... What is it called again?
Starting point is 00:26:46 Oh, yeah, the DailyMojo.com. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. The only reason that I struggle with all of that from Brad is just to make me happy because I know it makes him so angry. As I'm struggling to say, the Dailymojo.com. In my head, I can hear Brad's screaming. It's the DailyMojo.com.
Starting point is 00:27:14 And when I'm struggling to say his ex account, I can hear him screaming, it's at real Brad's X. And so it makes me laugh. And I do it just for me. So, you know, if you laugh, good. I'm happy that you laughed. But really, I do it just for me. You can email the show as well, Chewing the Fat,
Starting point is 00:27:36 at blazemedia.com, chewing the fat at blazemedia.com. So according to this, COVID-19 infection may awaken dormant viruses triggering more severe COVID-19 and lingering symptoms associated with long COVID. Oh, okay. Now, are we sure that that's COVID-19 infection or the vaccine? No. couldn't be that because if it was that, they would have said something. Who died today?
Starting point is 00:28:13 Who died today? Well, let's begin with Don Nelson. Don Nelson, Hall of Fame, NBA coach and Celtics star, dies at the age of 86. He was one of the winningest coaches in the league. He led the Bucks, the Warriors, and the Mavericks. He also had a brief stint with the Knicks. He won 5 NBA Championship Rings as a player with the Celtics, went on to become an innovative,
Starting point is 00:28:44 Free Thinking Hall of Fame head coach. And as I said, one of the winningest coaches in league history. He died Sunday right here in DFW, in the DFW area, Frisco, Texas, at the age of 86. He was at an assisted living facility, and it was confirmed that his health health, deteriorated after a stroke about three weeks ago. Wow, that's really sad. And so rest in peace to Don
Starting point is 00:29:12 Nelson or Nelly, as he was called, dead at the age of 86. Then we have country music icon Violet Hensley, country music icon Violet Hensley, known as the Whitland Fiddler. Yes, the Whitland Fiddler, and she was famous for her ability to carve and play violins. She died at the age of 109. She didn't make her grand old opera debut until she was 99 years old. Don't ever give up. Your dream can come true. In fact, you should be living your dream even if you don't end up in the grand old Opry, you know, the Whitland fiddler. And a silver
Starting point is 00:30:06 dollar city legend. Oh, holy cow. She is a true Arkansas legend and an honorary member of the Leslie community. Oh, that's a small town of Leslie, wrote of Hensley, who was Arkansas's oldest living
Starting point is 00:30:23 country music, a legend. So, rest in peace, to the Whitland fiddler. Violet Hensley, at the age of 109. All right, let's get out of here and do the joke of the day
Starting point is 00:30:39 from my King of the Dad Jokes 2026 calendar. If you're listening live today, it is the 12th of August 2026. Oh, I didn't even mention we got the jackpot drawing tonight
Starting point is 00:30:53 for the lottery of the Powerball is a billion dollars. How good? That's fine. We finally hit a a billion. I may not be here tomorrow. You never know. Well, I will be here, but I will definitely be telling you, hey, there may be a few days ahead in the future that I won't be around because the jackpot of the powerball is $1 billion. Pretty sweet. Pretty sweet. And I'm kind of
Starting point is 00:31:27 excited to let you know that, you know, I'm, I won that. And I took the cash payout, which is $4233.1 billion cash payouts. So yeah, I'm pretty happy. I'm pretty happy. I won the, the odds of me winning that grand prize are won 292,201,338.00. So I still got a chance. I still have a chance. We did the story today about the guy who's running for governor of Wisconsin,
Starting point is 00:32:16 who won the Democratic nomination for to run for governor of Wisconsin. And he talked about how his wife, he dropped out of the race, he wasn't going to run again, and the wife prayed on it, and she prayed for a sign. She said, be specific. She asked the Lord to be specific.
Starting point is 00:32:39 I want to give me a sign, please. If you think that we should run and he should run and become governor of Wisconsin, show me a sign, show me a red bird. I don't care. Just show me a, I have a red bird show up, show up in my life. And the next day a cardinal showed up on their porch or on their window ledge, and that was a sign.
