Blaze Radio Network And now Chewing the Fat with Jeff Fisher A study published earlier this week found that the typical plastic bottle of water
Starting point is 00:00:42 which we all drink out of contains up to 100 times as many plastic fragments as scientists previously thought. The new research is the first to I guess scour water bottles for nanoplastics
Starting point is 00:01:00 which are even more minuscule than microplastics, and may account for the vast majority of plastic contamination. Now, that's, I guess, concerning, because nanoplastics are small enough to enter the bloodstream, breach cell walls, and pass into a fetus. Now, researchers at Columbia University and Rutgers University found after testing bottled water from three popular unnamed, American brands, one-liter bottles of water contain anywhere from 110,000 to 300,000 plastic particles.
Starting point is 00:01:40 90% of that is nanoplastics. Much of that plastic comes from the bottles themselves, but particles are also present at every stage of the water production. Okay. Apparently we're eating plastic as well. Consumer reports recently found that a widespread presence of plastic in foods, with plastic showing up in 84 of the 85 foods it tested, including many popular items found at the grocery stores. Well, yeah, I mean, hello, if it's showing up in 84, the 85 foods tested. I'm sure many of them are sold at, I don't know, grocery stores. What now?
Starting point is 00:02:24 What do we do now? What am I worried? I was supposed to worry about microplastics. I mean miniscuoplastics and nanoplastics. Well, there's still really no concrete data on how plastic affects our bodies. Huh, that's weird. Okay, but hey, if you're worried,
Starting point is 00:02:40 according to the experts, you can swap plastic for glass when possible. You can drink tap water, which has fewer microplastics. Uh-huh. And you can avoid microwaving plastic wear. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Ah, good luck
Starting point is 00:03:03 With trying to avoid Nanoplastics Welcome Welcome to chewing the fat So we heard that the New York Times sued OpenAI and Microsoft Alleging that chat GPT Caused billions of dollars in damages
Starting point is 00:03:26 By breaching its copyrights Has it The suit claims that the chat bot has reproduced New York Times articles nearly verbatim without permission. So we'll see how that works out. Speaking of chat GPD though, Volkswagen has announced that it plans to integrate OpenAI's chat GPT into its vehicles as a standard feature starting, I don't know, this year. The artificial intelligence powered chatbot will be incorporated into the automobiles manufacturer's existing IDA voice assistance. Volkswagen will be the first volume manufacturer to offer chat GPT as a standard feature from the second quarter of 2024. That's great. According to The Verge, chat GPT enabled vehicles will first be available to European customers and then it obviously will come to the United States.
Starting point is 00:04:27 The automakers voice assistant, powered by Siren's chat pro, will now offer additional capabilities, including the ability to control the vehicle's infotainment, navigation, and air conditioning. I just want to control my own air conditioning, please. And my own infotainment, really, to be honest. And my own navigation. I want to be able to control that.
Starting point is 00:04:53 Oh, I'm just going to tell you, hey, how about, how about you go this way? And it seems like you're heating up a little bit in your seat. Should I cool it down a little bit for you? Volkswagen stated that the new feature will be helpful. Well, of course, that's the only reason you would put it in your vehicle so that it would be helpful. By providing enriching conversations. I don't want enriching conversation.
Starting point is 00:05:18 You know, one of the things that I enjoy, and I know this makes me a horrible person. I know that. but I drive, it takes me about, I don't know, 30 to 50 minutes, depending on traffic from where I live to go to the Mercury Studios and the Mercury Studios back to my home. One of the things that I enjoy is being in my vehicle by myself. I'm able to listen to whatever I want to listen to. I'm able to think and chat with myself with myself. Yeah, you can quote me on that. I'm able to chat with myself with myself.
Starting point is 00:06:00 I don't need the chat GPT, I'm sorry, the Sirentz chat pro to have enriching conversations. It's going to clear up questions. It's going to interact in initiative language. Oh, that's great. Receiving vehicle specific information and much more. No, I know I need to stop and get gas. I know my oil is low because there's a leak,
Starting point is 00:06:25 but I can't really afford to get that leak fixed. So, I mean, that's my economic indicator. People are pull, you see more cars broken down along the highways because people are not spending the money on the everyday upkeep of their vehicles because they can't afford it. And therefore, we see more cars broken down on the highway because people are waiting until the car breaks down
Starting point is 00:06:48 before they get it fixed. that's my economic indicator. Anyway, the voice assistant is activated by saying, hello, IDA. Or, of course, I could press the button on the steering wheel, and IDA will automatically prioritize whether the vehicle function should be executed. Oh, that's nice.
Starting point is 00:07:10 So I could say, hello, IDA. And if it doesn't say anything, that means that it's decided that the function should be executed. That's nice of them. No problem. A destination searched or a temperature adjusted. So if I ask it, that's weird. IDA automatically prioritizes whether a vehicle function should be executed.
Starting point is 00:07:31 Oh. So if I ask it for directions or I ask it to make it colder or obviously warmer, it's going to decide whether, you know, you really don't need to know where that place is. You know what? It's too cold in here already. We're not going to make it any colder in here. Yeah, but it's a thousand outside. Yeah, I've decided.
Starting point is 00:07:55 So, and it's not even going to tell you, sorry, I've decided. I'm not doing that. It's just not going to answer you. It's just going to decide whether the function should be executed. That's great. I hope that it comes in every vehicle from now till the end of time. Now, they claim that chat GPT would not be able to access the vehicle's data. Right.
Starting point is 00:08:22 The AI system will be deleted immediately to ensure the highest possible level of data protection. Let's say it with me. Right. That is awesome. As we look to the future, together, Volkswagen and Sarence is going to explore the collaboration to design a new large language model-based LLM, user-execl. experience as the foundation of Volkswagen's next generation in car assistant. So that is great. Isn't it?
Starting point is 00:09:06 With Amex Platinum, $400 in annual credits for travel and dining means you not only satisfy your travel bug, but your taste buds too. That's the powerful backing of Amex. Conditions apply. Well, if you're listening live today, it is the, 11th of January, 2024. So it's the new year, the brand new spanking year.

You can quote me and Raycon on that. Well, just quote me. Once they're in, they're in. Raycons give you eight hours of playtime and a 32-hour battery life. Awesome. They're priced just right. You get quality audio at half the price of other premium audio brands. It's really no wonder that Raycons everyday earbuds have tens of thousands of five-star
Starting point is 00:11:14 reviews. I love the tap functions on my Raycons, the noise isolation feature. They like to promote their awareness mode, but really, I mean, I like the noise isolation feature so that, you know, I'm listening to what I want to listen to, and I don't
Starting point is 00:11:30 want to be aware of what else is going on around me. But if you do, the awareness mode is available for you. You know, I, when you listen to this show, you know, people ask you what are you listening to? No matter what you listen to, you have to say chewing the fat. That's the rules of being a subscriber to this show.
Starting point is 00:11:49 However, with the Racon everyday earbuds, people may not see that you're actually listening to anything because the earbuds are just so comfortable and once they're, once they're in it, they're in it. and it may not be noticeable. I love the RACONs so much. I listen to so many things with the RACONs. In fact, you know, then I told you already that, you know, my kids have stolen them. My wife has stolen them. I mean,

Starting point is 00:13:02 slash jeffy. So earlier this week, I talked about how Buffalo, the great city of Buffalo, New York, was going to be the number one hottest housing market in 2024, thanks to predictions from Zillow. Well, I have looked at the top 10 list now of the cities that are the hottest housing markets of 2024, according to Zillow. And three of the top 10 are in Ohio. Come on now. Cincinnati, Columbus is two and three, and Cleveland is the eighth.
Starting point is 00:13:37 Okay. All right. Then you have, I mean, my favorite city in the whole world, Tampa, Florida, is 10th. That's got to be, I've got to pick that up a lot. Tampa is a lot higher than 10th. It should be anyway. And then you have Indianapolis number four. Providence, Rhode Island.
Starting point is 00:13:56 Who doesn't want to move to Providence, Rhode Island is the hottest housing market. well, the fifth hottest housing market, according to Zillow. Then you have Atlanta, Charlotte, North Carolina, which actually Charlotte is beautiful. North Carolina is beautiful. I would move closer to the mountains than Charlotte, but, you know, Charlotte's right there. Then Cleveland, as I said, and then Orlando and Tampa. So in the top 10, the bottom, the bottom, 9 and 10 are in Florida, Orlando and Tampa. and if you have a choice between Orlando and Tampa,
Starting point is 00:14:32 choose Tampa, just saying it. All right, let's go to the break room. I need something cold to drink desperately. Quick look at the lotto, the ion lotto, here on chewing the fat. The Mega Millian's drawing, as reported, is tomorrow the 12th of January, for $187 million, $91.0 million cash payout.
Starting point is 00:15:03 and there was no winner of the Powerball last night. So the next drawing is Saturday, January 13th, and that is $77 million jackpot with $38.2 million cash value. So you still got a shot, right? You can't win if you don't play. It's just that simple. Be sure to follow me on my social media accounts
Starting point is 00:15:29 on X at Jeffrey JFR. Facebook and Instagram is Jeff Fisher. radio. You can follow me on my YouTube channel, Chewing the Fat with Jeff Fisher. You can order a cameo from me. That's not free. Go to at Jeffie JFR on Cameo and you order it. You tell, you know, you type in whether you want me to be happy, sad, glad, mad, mean, whatever you need. And then I do it. And I'm the trained monkey from Cameo. So, and it's just that simple at Jeffey, JFR. And you can always email the show anytime, chewing the fat. at the blaze.com.
Starting point is 00:16:05 I know that many of you, you know, don't really care about football, but I was looking where the NFL games averaged 17.9 million television viewers up from 7% last year. So the NFL is doing nothing but growing. And when you look at the numbers for college football, the national championship game, 24.28 million viewers. And that was a number two. That wasn't even the most viewed game. Michigan's, the Rose Bowl win over Alabama,
Starting point is 00:16:40 had 28 million viewers at the top spot. And that was, I think, last year, Georgia, Ohio State had 22 million. Michigan TCU had 21.7. Wow, no one watched that game. And this year, Michigan's regular season went over Ohio State. Third most watch game of the season, 19 million people tuning into that. Pretty incredible.
Starting point is 00:17:04 Those are huge games, right? And I mean, I'm just talking about the NFL games. Average, the average NFL game is pulling in 17.9 million television viewers. The bigger games are even bigger than that. Pretty incredible. Now, the regular season is over. So there's been all kinds of changes already, or, you know, there's soon to be all kinds of changes. Coaches are getting fired.
Starting point is 00:17:27 Coaches quitting. But we still have the playoffs to go through. playoffs. I mean, in the AFC, don't forget the NFL, the league has two conferences, the AFC and the NFC. And the AFC has, you know, the Baltimore Ravens, the Buffalo
Starting point is 00:17:42 Bills, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Houston Texans, the Cleveland Browns, the Miami Dolphins, and the Pittsburgh Steelers in the playoffs that could, you know, either any of those teams could go to the Super Bowl. You know, it's doubtful. It's probably going to be the Baltimore Ravens,
Starting point is 00:17:58 but you just don't know anything. could happen. And in the NFC, you have the 49ers, the Cowboys, the Lions, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who just snuck in, the Philadelphia Eagles, the Los Angeles Rams, and the Green Bay Packers, who just snuck in. And, you know, any one of those teams could go to the Super Bowl. You know, it's possible. Probably, you know, there's, you know, you're looking at the 49ers and or the Cowboys. And in the AFC, I said the Baltimore Ravens, you know, is it going to be the bills and the end or the chiefs again? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:18:33 You know, it's going to be fun to watch. It's going to be definitely fun to watch. But some of the teams that didn't make the playoffs fired their coaches. Have a nice day. Two of the biggest ones this year so far that just happened, Bill Belichick from the New England Patriots,
Starting point is 00:18:52 arguably the greatest NFL coach of all time. I mean, 24 years, six Super Bowl. wind's gone. Have a nice day. And then we had Pete Carroll from the Seahawks, the Seattle Seahawks, who has a Super Bowl victory as well. I guess he's still going to be an advisor. I'm sure Bill Belichick will go to another team. He wants to continue coaching. At least that appears to be the case. Although his good friend, head coach of the Crimson Tide, Alabama, Nick Sabin, just retired. He's
Starting point is 00:19:30 not going to be on the sideline next year. Incredible. 17 seasons with the Crimson Dide. I mean, he just obviously just lost to Michigan in the playoff game. He's 72 years old, same age as Bill Belichick, widely considered one of the greatest coaches in college football history. He led Toledo in 1990, Michigan State 95 to 99, LSU, 2000 to 2004. went to the NFL Miami Dolphins, 2005 to 2007, before heading to Tuscaloosa, where he won. How many championships did he have? Well, six national championships.
Starting point is 00:20:17 Nine conference crowns. After 17 years coaching at one place, that guy is a god in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He won 201 games. That has him tied with Vince Dooley of Georgia for the second most wins in a single school in SEC history. Be kind of Bear Bryant, who won 232 games in his 25 seasons with Alabama. I mean, there's Bear Bryant. And then there's Sabin.
Starting point is 00:20:50 You can argue that Sabin was better than Bear Bryant. I mean, the National Championship trophy should be the Sabin. In the new era, the National College Football. playoff national championship trophy should be the Sabin. That's what it should be. That's just me. They haven't consulted me. I'm just saying, if it were me, that's what I would call it.
Starting point is 00:21:15 And there are a bunch more NFL jobs available too. I think there's another six or seven head coaching jobs on top of assistance, but for sure, head coaching positions open in the National Football League. So if you think you're up for it, go ahead and apply. I'm not surprised that he retired because he talked about he was on with Pat McAfee every week this year during the college football season and he was really great and he's you know he's such a smart man and knows football so well and he talked about how different it was and how the lifestyle is you know non-stop you're working 24-7 all year round recruiting and in today's world
Starting point is 00:21:59 with the transfer portal and NIL, I mean, you are working literally darn near 24th, literally, literally, literally darn near. Yeah, you can quote you on that as well. Literally darn near 24-7. So, I mean, the job is not easy. The job is not easy. If you step into the fire of college football coaching and you're not prepared for it, you are going to get burned. It's hockey season, and you can get anything you need delivered with Uber Eats.

Starting point is 00:23:16 That's last month. And this is causing severe disruptions in medical treatments. There are delays, treatment cancellations, and the unfortunate rationing of vital medications. Even drugs as important
Starting point is 00:23:31 as the antibiotic amoxicillin are in short supply right now, along with 294 others. Amazing. Doctors are even saying, saying that they've been forced to make impossible choices, including choosing which patients will be prioritized to receive potentially curative therapy.
Starting point is 00:23:51 Just incredible. This is why you need Jace Case. It's a personalized emergency kit that contains five essential antibiotics that treat the most common and deadly bacterial infections. Starting point is 00:25:04 In fact, that's me, not them, but for sure, you can quote me on it. You don't want to be Without when you need. Jacemedical.com. Okay, a couple of Who Died Today Revisits. Andre Brower, who died, he's already been in
Starting point is 00:25:23 Who Died Today? He died at 61, very sad. And they had originally reported that it was a brief illness. Well, it's been revealed that it was lung cancer. That's what it was, you know, that's what they said.
Starting point is 00:25:40 That was the cause of death. It was lung cancer. So it wasn't that. So stop looking at me like that. And I know many of you are going to be saying, but Jeff, they already have doctors alarmed and baffled because cancer is striking more young people. And they, we don't know why.
Starting point is 00:26:01 Huh. So those of you looking at me like that, yeah. I mean, it very well could be that. They certainly are making. the case that because of that more people are being struck with cancer. Huh. Weird. And now we have everybody jumping on the Matthew Perry. Hey, he wasn't clean and sober and he was just a douchebag.
Starting point is 00:26:28 Come on. I mean, Matthew, he was in our who died today segment. He was 54. He died, I don't know, back in October now. And they said that he was, He died from acute effects of ketamine with contributing factors, drowning coronary artery disease, and buremphrofen-phrine effects. Burenphorphrine. Yeah, that's what I said.
Starting point is 00:26:59 Buprenorphine. Yeah, that's what he was contributing factors of coronary artery artery disease and buprenorphine. Yeah, that's what I said. So he was getting ketamine infusions to treat depression and drug addiction. However, the medical examiner noted that the amount found in Perry's system could not have been from his final infusion treatment a week and a half before his death. So they had said in the original article that the doc had cut him back. And so I'm sure he was self-medicating with the ketamine to help him out. But that's not what the people are saying.
Starting point is 00:27:37 They're saying that he would FaceTime people. and then let's hang out and he would say, you know, get him to come to their house, and then he would have them bring drugs to the house. Well, the only thing he had in his system was the ketamine. It wasn't like he was doing all the painkillers or any other drugs. It was the ketamine. So how about we not just kick the guy, well, he's already dead, okay? Let them rest in peace.
Starting point is 00:28:04 You know, speaking of rest at peace, I see where Nebraska has now introduced a bill where they would let a fixation by nitrogen be a way for them to carry out the death penalty in their prisons. Now, Nebraska, I mean, Alabama, I think, is waiting to do that as well. They're waiting on a judge's ruling. Look, they've made it almost impossible to get the lethal injection drugs. And that's why some states are putting in firing squads again, or maybe going back to the electric chair. But I guess what they do or what they will do is they will put a mask that fits tightly over the nose and the mouth.
Starting point is 00:28:46 And they're just going to deliver pure nitrogen to the death row inmate. So is that cruel and unusual? I don't know. Not compared to what these people did to get on death row. And you know, I love the stories that talk about the death row inmates and their last meals. Because some states don't allow you to choose what you get if you're, on death row. This is, you know, they give you your meal and you move on with your life. Aha! Get it? But there are plenty of states, and especially in the past, that would give, you know,
Starting point is 00:29:19 the death row inmate the last meal. And you get to request what you wanted and they would, you know, bring it to you. Well, there's a guy. What a great idea. I used to, I read them on the air. I've read them. I've read them to you over the years. You know, what the death row inmate has ordered, what they ate. We've broken it down. Well, there's a guy that's Josh Slavin. I'm going to have to reach out and try to talk to him. He's been posting on Instagram and eating. He cooks and tastes the final meals that were requested by the death row inmates, and then he rates them on his Instagram account.
Starting point is 00:29:51 Josh Laban. That's awesome. The first one he posted was Ricky Ray Rector, the convicted murderer, who, according to several news reports, requested steak, fried chicken, a cherry cul-aid, and pecan pie for his final meal. He died by lethal injection in 1992. Anyway, it was, he's going through and dining the last meals of these death row inmates before they were executed. And that's awesome.
Starting point is 00:30:20 And his deal was that he recreates and taste test the meals that had been requested and they like to throw in or not requested by notorious inmates because, you know, Ted Monday declined to select a meal. So they brought him steak, hash browns, eggs, toast, juice, and milk. Which, you know, good steak and eggs with some hash brown, some toast, some juice, and milk at any time is a worthy meal. Just a really good idea. And I'm going to have to reach out and talk to him because I'm a little jealous that I did not do this. His number one meal that he made was that from Alton Coleman, who, who's, that serial killer chose filet mignon with mushroom gravy, biscuits
Starting point is 00:31:11 and gravy, fried chicken, French fries, broccoli with cheese, collard greens, onion rings, cornbread, a salad, sweet potato pie, butter, pecan, ice cream, and cherry cola before he was executed in 2002. Now, I will say that many of these prisons, even though some of them provide a last meal that you ever to order, there is a budget.
Starting point is 00:31:31 You don't get to just order anything. That's a pretty big meal. Filet mignon with mushroom gravy sounds good biscuits and gravy hello fried chicken French fries yes crispy please for me broccoli with cheese
Starting point is 00:31:49 okay I mean I'm not opposed to having broccoli with cheese collared greens onion rings I like them okay if the breading is right corn bread salad sweet potato pie okay butter pecan ice cream okay I don't know that that goes well with the sweet
Starting point is 00:32:05 potato pie, but, you know, whatever. And cherry coli, look, you're going to be killed the next day. So go ahead and eat what you want. And so I just, I think this is a great idea. I've got to reach out to Josh and talk to him about his idea
Starting point is 00:32:25 and how he came up with it. He probably came up with it thanks to listening to Chewing the Fat, this show. Because as I was breaking down for years, I've broken down what the last meal was for people on death row. And you're welcome, Josh. You're welcome. This episode is brought to you by Peloton. I was talking the other day about the Colony Ridge Story. And he was a part of that and a part of making the documentary.
Starting point is 00:33:42 And the second episode of the docu-series, Blage Originals, where Glenn traveled. to Liberty County, Texas, and they're giving you the real story, along with Jason, they're giving you the real story of Colony Ridge. Colony Ridge is growing fast at a rate of 200 lots per day.
Starting point is 00:34:01 Some of the things that are going on there are just incredible. And based on what Glenn and the Blaze Originals team observed firsthand, the overwhelming percentage of residents are Spanish-speaking, non-citizens.
Starting point is 00:34:15 Glenn spoke with the developer, John Harris, and while he stated, approximately 35,000 people live there, the local authorities contradicted him, estimating that the actual population is more than twice that. In fact, there were a number of things that the developer John Harris said that weren't quite true. Huh, weird.
Starting point is 00:34:37 If nothing has done about it, there's going to be hundreds of thousands of people living in Colony Ridge in just a few years, and that's where you come in. Starting point is 00:35:51 I mean, it's unbelievable to me some of the things that are going on down there and the things that we've heard that aren't altogether correct, which would be, oh, I know, lies. So in this episode, Glenn addresses all the rumors and brings you the actual truth. And Colony Ridge is going to, they're on their way to fundamentally changing the political landscape of Texas. Starting point is 00:36:29 Colony Ridge for $30 off your annual subscription. Blazeoriginals.com promo code Colony Ridge. Okay, sure we've had planes, you know, have holes blow out of them, you know, bolts, bolts falling apart. Sure, we've had all that. Don't even worry about that. They're, they're investigating that. It's fine. They're tightening them down. They're realizing, you know, we probably, we probably should have tightened those bolts down. Well, now we have a UK company that says, they claim, have created fuel made entirely of a human poo. Yay! I can't wait to have these whole airline fleets
Starting point is 00:37:21 blowing human poop fuel. You think you got chem trails now. You're going to have poo trails. Well, it's going to be good. That's going to be good. So Firefly green fuels spoke on poop-powered planes. The CEO, James Heigate, said, we wanted to find a really low-value feedstock that was highly abundant. And of course, poo is abundant.
Starting point is 00:37:50 Independent tests by international aviation regulators found it was nearly identical to standard fossil jet fuel. So Fireflies team worked with Cranfield University to examine the fuel's life cycle carbon impact, and it concluded that fireflies fuel has a 90% lower carbon footprint than standard jet fuel. So congratulations to firefly green fuels based in Gloucashire United Kingdom, right? I think that's Glocasher. Yeah, that's what I said. Gloucestershire. Okay, that's what I said.
Starting point is 00:38:34 Okay. Gloucestershire. Yeah, no, I know. I know, that's what I said. Stop saying it. My apologies to Gloucestershire, UK. All right, that's how you say it. And congratulations on a company from your great city creating poop fuel for airliners.
Starting point is 00:38:53 Man, oh man. I seriously, I cannot wait for poop trails. If you've ever been around dairy farms during the summertime and you have that smell from the dairy cows, you know, the poo smell. Man, that is what we're going to be kidding. Hopefully it won't be as bad. You're right. So I see where, you know, I see the headline of U.S. job openings drop to $8.8 million,
Starting point is 00:39:29 the lowest since March 2021. So U.S. job openings dropped to $8.8 million. that's supposed to be a good thing. But then we have TGI Fridays suddenly closing 36 underperforming restaurants as part of a new growth strategy. Wait, what? We're closing stores as part of a growth strategy. Yeah, okay. That, sure.
Starting point is 00:39:54 Whatever you say. I see where Xerox is cutting around 3,000 workers. That would be like 15% of its workforce. amid operational and organizational restructuring. I see where Amazon is laying off several hundreds. This is the way it's put. Several hundreds of employees in prime video and MGM divisions. Amazon owned Twitch to cut headcount by 35%.
Starting point is 00:40:26 Wow. Around 500 employees, that's not good. Twitch not doing that well, I guess. and Amazon Prime, the Prime Video and the MGM divisions? I mean, are we still not making content? That's why I guess we're going to start charging now for Prime with ads. They're going to split that soon, right?
Starting point is 00:40:45 You're not going to have the Amazon Prime for deliveries and stuff is going to be separate from Amazon Prime video and their movie divisions. It's going to have to be. I don't know how they used it to hide money and make money and make Jeff, you know, couple hundred billionaire in his life, but that's, it's going to have to break up soon enough. And which one do you use the most? Do you use Amazon delivery service and ordering products? So they come right to your home more than you watch Amazon Prime with whatever live sporting
Starting point is 00:41:21 events they have and film and broadcast shows? I don't know. I don't know. That would be a tough call. That would be a really tough call. That's why I do like them bundled together, but I don't know if I could choose. I don't know which one would be worth it more if there is one that would be worth more. Then we have Odyssey, the U.S. largest radio company. They file for Chapter 11. Don't worry about it. It's fine. They're the second largest radio broadcaster in the U.S. They just filed Chapter 11. It's been a long term decline in ad sales. And I'm sure that this is part of their strategy for new growth. I am in love with that.
Starting point is 00:42:11 We got rid of shutting down, underperforming restaurants. But it's part of our new growth strategy. So you're cutting stores. It's not a growth thing. Anyway, so whatever, that's part of the growth. strategy and i see where uh software giant s ap uh it was ordered to pay two hundred and twenty million dollars and a coordinated global settlement over charges it bribed various government officials across the world in 2014 and 2022 so they're bribing bribing government officials
Starting point is 00:42:51 uh for what the use of their software okay i guess why not well Now they're busted and they're going to have to pay money for their bribery charges. The money and gifts typically routed via outside business consultants were intended to help win business in South Africa, Indonesia, and elsewhere. According to U.S. officials, the schemes operated at least from 2014 until January of 2022. SAP said that they cooperated with investigators and overhauled policies. we are remaining vigilant in maintaining the highest standards of ethics and compliance. How are you? So SAP, which is headquartered in Germany, has shares listed in the U.S.,
Starting point is 00:43:38 and is among the world's largest software companies. Okay. So the firm is operating in five countries. Africa, Azerbaijan. I love Azerbaijan. This year, it's gorgeous. And Indonesia, they engaged in bribery schemes, repeatedly breaking company policies that were in,
Starting point is 00:43:55 intended to guard against corruption. In South Africa, I paid millions in fees to consultants, despite no work being performed. That's a good gig. They funded shopping excursions and dining, and as well as making more explicit payments. I want some of those payments. More explicit payments. So the settlement includes $118.8 million criminal fine, according to the Department of Justice and Securities and Exchange Commission, which worked with authorities in South Africa on investigation and announced the deal.
Starting point is 00:44:30 SAP has accepted the responsibility. No kidding. And the U.S. said it would drop the criminal charges against the firm after three years if they complied with the announced agreement. So there you have it. I mean, they're going to, you know, they're just trying to stay alive in a more competitive world. Am I right? right right I mean why didn't they just say hey look we were we were giving people dinner and buying them and paying them money because it was part of our new growth strategy it would have worked it would have worked it was all
Starting point is 00:45:13 part of a new growth strategy wow these companies man oh oh did I mention also in this list of companies, you know, doing their new growth strategies, Google is going to lay off 30,000 employees. That's part of their, as they claim that AI improves our operational efficiency. So as AI is improving operational efficiency, you 30,000 humans, yeah, get out of here, take care. It's part of our new growth strategy, by the way. All right, I got to get out of here. I'll leave you with a thought for the day, the chewing the fat, thought for the day. Sometimes someone unexpected comes into your life out of nowhere, makes your heart race, and changes you forever.
