And now, chewing the fat with Jeff Fisher.
So remember way back in 2022?
I mean, it was so long ago,
when Kia had a problem with smoke coming from under the driver's seat.
And according to a timeline, Kia provided to the NHTSA,
yeah, you know, we had another customer complaint of smoke,
smell from the passenger side power seat, which wasn't working.
And yeah, there were some other.
cases reported, you know, in 2022. And look, if you think you have an issue, maybe you don't
park your car, I don't know, next to your house, you park it in the road, you park it way down the
driveway toward the road. Well, now, Kia is warning the owners of almost 463,000 of its
tell-you-ride SUVs, you need to park them outside and away from buildings, because
well, the front seats could start burning.
The seat control switches, it is not funny.
The front power seats of the SUVs,
well, you know what, they can become misaligned,
and they can become stuck.
And if they're hit hard by something,
gosh darn it, the small electric motor
that moves the seat can run continuously and overheat.
And so, you know what?
We're going to recall them, we're going to fix it.
Don't worry about it.
But until then, look, we're going to send a letter out next month and let people know that they can bring their SUVs to the dealership for repairs at no cost, of course.
And the technicians will install reinforcements and improves switches to prevent the seats from burning.
That's nice of them.
Now, this is separate from the recall that they had earlier this year where cars would just roll away while they were in park.
So now, if you, you know, park your car in the road and it could start on fire and it could be rolling down the street on fire.
That's awesome. That is awesome. Makes me want to buy a Kia tell you ride. I'll tell you that.
It's like one of the most popular cars. I mean, it was made to sell here in America and it did.
So now, honey, did you park the car in front of the house? Because I think it's our car.
rolling down the street and it's on fire.
Yep, there it goes.
Welcome.
Not funny at all.
They claim that there's been no accidents or injuries as a result of the problem.
But one owner, only one so far, has reported that the driver's seat caught fire while
they were driving.
So not only can it be parked and then start rolling away.
while it's parked, it could catch fire while it's parked, or you could be driving someplace and
the car seat could start on fire there. That is not a good issue to have. You can quote me on that.
Welcome. Welcome to chewing the fat. You know, another issue that you don't want to have is
roads collapsing. You do not want that. And that's exactly what happened in Wyoming. You saw where the,
and if you didn't see, the footage is incredible.
The Teton Pass
catastrophically failed.
It just went down the mountain,
giant landslide.
So a large chunk of this mountain pass road
just collapsed.
And it's in the story,
it calls it a gaping chasm in the highway.
It's incredible.
And now the road is, you know,
it's a people drive it all the time.
And it's a link between small,
towns in eastern Idaho to Jackson, Wyoming, and when you see how the pavement just disappeared,
and part of the guardrail is dangling, you know, off the side.
Now, there are huge, it's closed now, and it was closed when it collapsed, which we're very
fortunate about that.
Only one person really was harmed.
I mean, there was a crack and a drop in the road on Thursday, and a motorcycle hit it and
crashed. So, you know, they
showed up and wondered, hey, what's going on
here? That was a big giant
hole in the road. What's happening? And so
a paving crew, I guess,
temporarily patched the road, and
then they opened the road back up. No problem.
Then, uh, maintenance
crews were sent to respond to the same
maintenance crew, sent to a, uh,
respond to a mudslide a couple miles
away. And then
they were like, oh, hey, uh, because of that, uh, this
highway, uh, just crashed into
the down the side of the mountain so sorry about it and it's closed and look it's only about a 60 mile
detour to go where you want to go if you can't use this road so no don't even worry about it
they don't even really know how long it's going to take to fix it what it's going to take to fix it
i mean holy cow that's a critical roadway here in the u.s and we're just going to
you know, what are you going to do?
Go the other way. Sorry about it.
And look, we'd love to help you,
but we've got a bridge in Baltimore to build
that has a lot more traffic
and creates a lot more income
to the infrastructure and the economy of the U.S.
So we'll get to you when we can.
Of course we feel bad.
Don't look at me like that.
It's a terrible thing,
but, you know, we've got other things to worry about right now.
I will say this is a good example of
why you need to be prepared.
Let's say you live on either side of this road collapse,
and you've got to get to the other side because you need your medication.
And you can't, or you don't have the ability to take the detour to get you where you need to go.
That's why you need a Jace case.
A Jace case is a personalized emergency kit that contains essential antibiotics and medications
that treat the most common and deadly bacterial infections.
It provides five life-saving antibiotics for emergency use.
Just fill out a simple form online, and you'll have it just in case you need it.
There are add-on options as well, like Epipens and Ivermectin.
Jace Medical encourages you to take your family's health into your own hands.
And not only do they have the Jace case, but they have what's called the Jace Daily as well.
where you can get a 12-month extended supply of your current daily prescription needs.
Pretty awesome stuff.

So we've all seen the videos.
you know, we see them, at least I do, they're in my timeline. It seems like it's never ending of
fights going on at local eateries around the country. And what do they have in common?
They have in common, they're all young people. So, and I mean extra young. And so a restaurant
in extra young, yeah, that's, that's what they are. They're young people. They're extra young people.
You know, you've seen them. A restaurant in Missouri, Bliss Restaurant is,
now making headlines.
And I think, you know, we're trying to say that this is a bad thing.
It's located outside of St. Louis.
It's now going to restrict entry to men under 35 and women under 30 after 7 p.m.
on Wednesdays through Sundays.
Now, it opened in May.
It's reported to be an upscale Caribbean eatery, Caribbean eatery, to create a mature atmosphere free
from younger patrons who might bring drama,
according to the assistant manager, Erica Rhodes.
IDs will be checked by hosts
or a St. Louis County police officer,
despite some backlash, the owner, Marvin Pate,
said that we're committed to maintaining this policy.
Yeah, I don't blame them.
Go ahead.
Now, you'd be pissed.
Let's say you're 34,
and you're out with a woman who's, let's say,
31 and you can't get in and she can and you go there for dinner because it's a you know an upscale
Caribbean eatery and they say nope I can't do it sorry a you're out now she can come in but you can't
you know you'd be pissed but on the other hand you know you just wouldn't go back there right
and I think that's fine we've we have lost a little bit of no shoes no shirt no service
from our local eateries so they're trying to get a
little bit of that back and I get it and after you went there once you would realize well I can't
go back there unless I go back next year or I go at a different time because remember this is after
seven Wednesday through Sundays I don't know if they're open Mondays and Tuesdays they might be
closed but whenever they're open like noon to noon to seven or whenever they open up until 7 p.m.
any age works. But after seven, get out.

So a headline grabbed my attention, college grads in favor of older workers. Employers avoid hiring
recent college grads in favor of those older workers.
And then when you break it down, it's this intelligent.com survey from December of last year.
And they interviewed 800 employers.
So 53% of college graduates struggle with eye contact during a job interview.
50% asked for unreasonable compensation.
47% dressed inappropriately.
27% used inappropriate language.
21% refused to turn on camera during a virtual interview.
19% brought a parent to their interview.
I couldn't imagine going to end with my child to a job interview.
sure you prep them you talk to them about it you know things that work things that don't work
you know be yourself that kind of thing but you don't go in with them that is unbelievable
that would be embarrassing at least to my kids it would be embarrassing to me as well
refused to turn camera on during virtual interview that just you know hey i forgot to put my
clothes on i knew i had a job interview but sorry i don't want you to see my nose rings uh used
inappropriate language. Wow, that's really surprising that people don't have any idea what kind,
how to talk to other human beings appropriately. Dressed inappropriately, unreasonable compensation,
everyone believes that they're worth more than they are. So, I mean, I don't know that that
shocks me. You know, if you ask, what do you think the job is worth and I tell you a price,
you know, is that unreasonable or is that you for you to tell me, ooh, no, that's not even close
to what we pay. And struggle.
with eye contact, amazing. They don't want to look you in the eye when they talk to you.
It's just amazing. So if you have extra young people that aren't, you know, fighting in restaurants,
perhaps you would go over with them a way to take care of their job interview so that, you know,
maybe they would get the gig instead of the employers going, yeah, we're going to go with the older
person because they get it. And you know, maybe the older person really needs the job. So they don't
ask for unreasonable compensation because they need some kind of compensation. And so when asked about
what do you think, and they probably have a better idea of what each job is worth, because
everyone thinks that, you know, $20 an hour to bring me my French fries and burger from the
back counter to the front counter at McDonald's is reasonable compensation. It isn't.
And oh my gosh, look what's happening to all the restaurants in California.
Yeah, everybody makes $20 an hour, but no one is working.
Huh, big surprise.
And I am not the word police, but, you know, there is an appropriate way to talk to people.
And there are times when inappropriate language works and when it doesn't.
And you just have to kind of be smart enough to know that.
And I guess that would be up to the parents to help their children disqualification.
decide and guide them.
And that apparently is not happening.
So good luck out there.
But if you go to a job interview and you struggle with eye contact and you're dressed
inappropriately and you're using inappropriate language and you bring your parent with you,
you're probably not getting the job.
All right.
Let's go to the break room.
I need something cold to drink desperately.
Those of you that listen to the show, you know that on,
Friday, I told you that was going to be the last
appearance of Pat Sejack
on the Wheel of Fortune.
Yeah, he was saying goodbye.
After 41 seasons, 41 seasons,
he started the daytime program
when 1981.
Vanna White didn't come on board till 82.
And then it got nationally syndicated
and switched to evenings where it continued to grow.
Now it's the second most popular
syndicated show and TV history behind, you guessed it, Jeopardy.
Now, what's his face?
Ryan Seacrest, he starts up in the fall, and Vanna's hanging out as well for at least another
year.
That's where she's contractually obligated anyway.
But he had his final comments on Friday's show, and it was really good.
Well, the time has come to say goodbye.
I have a few thanks and acknowledgements before I go.
And I want to start with all of you watching out there.
It's been an incredible privilege to be invited into millions of homes,
night after night, year after year, decade after decade.
And I've always felt that the privilege came with a responsibility to keep this daily half hour a safe place for family fun.
No social issues, no politics, nothing embarrassing, I hope.
I saved that in my ex account.
But gradually it became more than that, a place where kids learn their letters,
where people from other countries hone their English skills.
where families came together, along with friends and neighbors and entire generations.
What an honor to have played even a small part in all that.
Thank you for allowing me into your lives.
Every time we taped a show, I met three new people from all parts of this wonderful country and the world
who were kind and considerate, who rooted for each other,
who took great pride in talking about their family, their hometown,
their friends, their schools, their jobs, even their pets.
In the end, they were the real stars.
of the show. I genuinely like these
people and I'll miss the chance to meet more
of them. To our staff and crew,
particularly the veterans
with whom I've shared the stage for five years,
10 years, 20, 30, and
more, it's been a joy
to work with you. Your skills and dedication
and good humor made this a place I
always wanted to be.
Everyone pulled together and cared about
each other and about the show.
It worked because you made it work.
It looked great because you made it
look great and you made my job so much easier and I want you to know that your efforts never went
unnoticed by me nor unappreciated I'll miss you guys the best part of the last couple of years
have been the chance to work with my daughter Maggie to watch her grow and her role and that's great
she interviewed me recently and I talked about my life and the show I hope you've seen some of it
online I really enjoyed doing it I have to admit it's a little weird to be interviewed by your own
daughter, but she did a great job.
Maggie is liked around here
because she's talented and smart and funny.
And my daughter. She's loved around here
because she's kind and caring and humble.
Leslie and I are blessed to have two such wonderful
kids. There's Maggie, of course, and her fabulous
brother Patrick and his new family.
Go down the list. As for Leslie, she's been
my wife and life partner for 35 years. I love her, who she is
and what we are as a team.
Oh, that's so sweet. To my
professional other half, dear
Vanna. Like me, she takes the show very seriously, but not herself. I shuddered to think what these 40-plus
years might have been like, and they brought someone in all full of themselves playing the
prima donna role. Vanna is as sweet and unassuming as she seems. We've seen a lot of changes in each other's
lives over the years, but we've always been there for each other. I want to thank her for a lovely goodbye on
yesterday's show, and while I very much miss working with her, I take solace and the fact that we live
about five miles apart, so we'll see plenty of each other.
But I will miss our nightly closes and her laughter.
She has the access code to the gate.
She's a very special woman.
And I know you're all pleased to know that she'll be back next season.
And by the way, you'll still see plenty of me for the next few months.
That's right, summer reruns.
Yay!
So the jokes will be the same, but I'd appreciate it if you laugh again anyway.
That's it.
All right.
Thank you all so very much.
Let's wrap it up, Beth.
And goodbye.
All right, hit the bricks.
Take care.
Very sad.
And, you know, look, the guy's been around.
The guy's an icon.
And so goodbye, Pat.
Take care.
And thanks for the kind words.
No, really.
I mean it.
And as far as, you know,
Van and I running into each other,
we only live five miles apart.
Wasn't it reported that you were going to be doing some theater in Hawaii?
So I don't think you're going to be running into Vanna.
Vanna might drive by and give the gate camera a wave.
But you're going to be in Hawaii.
So take care.
Now, Pat has won, what, three daytime Emmy Awards and a Lifetime Achievement Award way back in 2011.
I see where Dick Van Dyke, Dick Van Dyke at the age of 98, has made history.
He won a 2024 Daytime Emmy Award for his guest performance in.
in a daytime drama on days of our lives.
And that makes him the oldest actor
to receive a daytime Emmy.
Now, in real life, Dick is kind of an agonizing nightmare,
but he's been around a long time
and he's done a lot of stuff.
So congratulations.
You know, the Daytime Emmy Awards took place live on CBS
this past Friday, which darn it, I missed it,
from the Weston Bonaventure Hotel
in downtown Los Angeles.
and he joked around
ha ha ha ha I saw him do a little dance
on the red carpet
and he said
if I didn't know
I was going to live this long
I would have taken better care of myself
that's not his line
all right
he now I realize that's a good line
and whatever
but that cannot be attributed
to Dick Van Dyke
I'm sorry no
that was first of all
the first time I ever heard that line
was from a guy with a pack of cigarettes
rolled up in his t-shirt
from a trailer park
that got ruined
ruined from a tornado going through Kentucky, Arkansas, somewhere in there.
And he was an old guy saying, I don't know I was going to live this long.
I'd have taken better care of myself.
So it's not Dick Van Dyke.
All right, let's get beyond them.
But congratulations to Dick and his daytime Emmy Award.
He won one a long time ago for some children's programming that he did on CBS.
But that was like in, I don't know, 1984 or whatever.
but congratulations to Dick Van Dyke
being the oldest
winner, maybe just even
the oldest nominee, let alone the winner
of an Emmy. So

Who died today
Who died today
Well let's begin
With former NASA astronaut
Bill Anders
Dead at the age of 90
He died in a plane crash
Near the San Juan Islands
Off the coast of Washington State
And it was caught on
camera
and very sad. He was the only one on board and it crashed into this water. It was an incredible crash and he died. He went out with his boots on. He was part of the Apollo 8 crew, the first humans to reach but not land on the moon. And this mission helped lay the groundwork for Apollo 11 where Asthmaenaut's first set foot on the lunar surface. He orbited the moon 10 times during which he snapped the photo that became known as,
Earthrise, depicting the Earth rising above the moon's horizon.
And so, I mean, that's pretty cool.
He's, you know, he's the honor of that.
And so we don't know what the cause of the crash was.
Was it an airplane malfunction or was it a Bill Anders 90-year-old man malfunction?
We don't know.
But rest in peace to former astronaut Bill Anders dead at the age of 90.
Then we have Chet Walker.
Chet Walker, Basketball Hall of Famer, seven-time NBA All-Star, dead at the age of 84.
He played in the NBA for 13 seasons from, and with the Chicago Bulls from 69 to 74, 75, right?
He was with there through 75.
Anyway, Chet Walker dead at the age of 84.
there was no cause of death given, although they say that he was struggling with a long-term illness.
So I'm not sure what that means.
That could mean a lot of things.
But he was struggling with it.
So Chet Walker is dead at the age of 84.
Speaking to the NBA, wow.
The NBA finals are being played as we speak.
The first two games have been played.
The Boston Celtics are taking out the Dallas Mavericks, or the Dallas Mavericks are taking on the Boston Celtics.
Doesn't matter how you put it.
Boston has won the first two games,
and they looked good.
Dallas did not look.
They looked better last night,
the second game,
but looking better and still losing
doesn't cut the cake, really.
So now we have to wait a few days.
We come back to Dallas.
They played in the garden,
and they made their fans happy at the garden.
So now we come back to Dallas
at the American Airlines Center,
and we'll see if Dallas can pull it out.
We'll see.
I mean, it's still possible.
Down 2-0, they can win the next four in a row and win.
It's a best of seven.
It could happen.
Probably not going to happen, no.
But it could happen.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Dallas win one here.
For sure, they need to win this game, this first game.
I think it's Wednesday night here in Dallas.
They need to win that game.
And then Boston will probably win the next two so they can win their championship at the garden,
at home, in Boston.
That place could just be lit up, and that's probably what's going to happen.
Are you saying that Boston would give up a game on purpose?
No, but I'm saying that Dallas will play really well on one night and beat Boston,
because that can happen, and then Boston will get fired up and win the next two,
and that will mean that they will win the championship at home against Dallas,
and Dallas can just limber on back home.
And I'm rooting for Dallas.
I mean, this show originates from DFW.
I'd like to see them win.
I like Luca.
I like Harry Irving.
But Boston, man, those guys are awesome.
And they've been playing some great basketball.
So I just don't foresee that happening.
I want them to win.
I'm rooting for them.
But it's looking like the Celtics are going to hang another banner at the garden.
And when that happens, I believe, if I'm not mistaken,
that puts them in the lead for the most championships of any NBA.
team so they definitely want to win this series, if anything else, but for that.
Speaking of professional basketball, it broke over the weekend that the Indiana Fever rookie
Caitlin Clark won't be playing on the United States of America basketball women's team
for the Olympics. What in the world are we thinking at the Olympics? Now, I know. I heard all the coaches
yep, yep, yep, about we had to pick the best players and Caitlin's young and she, you know,
we got all these players and we've already done that.
We've won all this.
We can't have blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
And she couldn't show up to the practices because she was playing,
but we just took the first part of her games and we did that, but we just scheduled
different.
She is drawing crowds like no other player.
And I know, I know Angel Reese thinks that, you know, she's just as good and great
as Caitlin.
And you know what?
She is.
No question.
She's won a national championship,
but she's not the brand that Caitlin is.
None of these players are.
And they're so unbelievably jealous that they can't just see it for what it is.
Let Caitlin be the star that brings the light onto your league.
It just, it's incredible to me.
It doesn't have anything to do with race.
It doesn't have anything to do with if she's straight or gay.
It has to do with people are excited about watching her play.
and she's selling out arenas.
They're moving some of these games to bigger arenas
because they're selling more tickets than ever before.
But you definitely don't want all eyes of the world
on the most electrifying player that your sport has seen ever.
Yeah, you don't want that.
Don't put her on the Olympics.
No, that would just be stupid.
Now, of course, Caitlin, you know, handled it well.
Caitlin, what was your reaction when you saw the USA team yesterday?
the roster come out?
Yeah, I think I'm excited for the girls that are on the team.
I know it's a good issue in the world, and I know it could have gone either way.
Maybe on the team may not be on the team, so, you know, I'm excited for them.
I'm going to be rooting them on to win gold.
I was a kid that grew up watching the Olympics, so, yeah, it'll be fun to watch them.
What was your level of disappointment not having your name on the roster?
Honestly, no disappointment.
Like, I think it just gives you something to work for.
You know, that's a dream.
hopefully I think it's just a little more motivation.
We remember that and hopefully in four years,
when four years comes back around, you know, I can be there.
Did you have a direct conversation with managing director
or whoever's over there at USAB recently?
Yeah, they called me and let me know
before everything came out, which was really respectful of them,
and I appreciated that, and they did the same for every girl that made the team
or every girl that didn't make the team.
There's a lot of players in the Olympic pool,
so it wasn't like I was the only one they had to call.
that I make quite a few calls.
Looking forward to a break, you know, from...
Now that's true.
She does get a break, which she'll be happy about.
But...
I mean, I've loved competing it every single second, but it's going to be a great month
for my body to, you know...
Right.
Although I'd rather go to Paris and win a gold medal.
...away from basketball and the craziness of everything that's been going on.
And, you know, just find some peace and quiet for myself.
But then additionally, like, a great opportunity for work to get better, a great opportunity
for myself to get in the weight room, to work on the court and work at things that I want to
get better at that I maybe can have time going from college to the pro season.
So I'm looking forward to it.
What a great answer.
And she handled that so well.
Yeah, let us be the ones that are pissed for you, Caitlin.
You handle it that way.
That is awesome.
Let us be the ones that are pissed at the Olympics for not picking the number one brightest star in
the world.
But four years might not happen.
Four years from now, anything could happen.
could get injured. She could decide to move on because she's not being treated the way she
deserves to be treated. She could, anything could happen in four years. There's absolutely,
it's embarrassing, embarrassing that the United States Olympics women's basketball team does not
have Caitlin Clark on that team. It's embarrassing.

You know,
speaking of
the Olympics,
which is going to take place in Paris.
I see that they hung the Olympic rings on the Eiffel Tower.
Beautiful this weekend.
Looks great.
Paris wants to say that they have put on the greenest Olympics ever.
Yay!
And they've touted again and again that this also pertains to the dorms in the Athletes Village.
The rooms don't have air conditioning
because other cooling measures,
organizers have assured the athletes won't need it.
Aha!
That's because it was designed to showcase sustainability
and will be more energy than organizers had hoped.
Well, not so fast, my friends,
because now they've all ordered portable air conditioning units.
They're going to be everywhere.
They're shipped in, ordered in, visiting countries.
They want their athletes to sleep well and perform.
We're going to have to have a bigger carbon footprint.
Yeah, we want it to be cool.
Sure, it's going to be hot,
and I'm sure there's going to be some kind of airflow
rushing through the Olympic Village,
so we should be fine, except, no,
we want air conditioning for our athletes, please.
That is awesome.
No, we want to be the greenest ever,
and we have to be, well, you know what?
No, we don't care about the.
green right now. We do, but what we want is our athletes to be cool and so we're going to bring in
air conditioning units because that's the way we roll. You know, I read something this weekend.
Incredible. Now, we often talk about how, you know, we need to, fossil fuels are what helps
drive this country and what has made this country so great and the world, for that matter.
people are
we're feeding people around the globe
because of fossil fuels
and you see
you know in Paris you know we want to be green
we're gonna we're gonna be able to open the window
so we have some air flow for the
for the athletes and the athletes are like
yeah we want it nice and cool
so that we could sleep
yeah so we're gonna bring in our own AC units
yeah that's that's the way it happens
in real life so you know
I know we're getting all this green stuff
push down our throat, but in real life, we want to be able to turn our lights on, please.
And I saw a post this weekend, and I thought, my gosh, I mean, that says so much.
And it's really what we've talked about on my show and on Pat Grant-Leese show,
and what we've talked about on other shows forever here at the Blaze.
But this pretty much encapsulates it.
And I love this.
Whoever thought of this, genius.
Imagine we lived in a world where all cars were EVs.
And then along comes a new invention, the internal combustion engine.
Think how well they would sell.
A vehicle, half the weight, half the price, that will almost quarter the damage done to the road.
A vehicle that can be refueled in one-tenth of the time, and has a range of up to four times the distance in all weather conditions.
It does not rely on environmentally damaging use of non-renewable rare earth elements to power it.
and use far less steel and other materials.
Just think how excited people would be for such technology.
It would sell like hotcakes.
Imagine.
Just imagine if that were the case.
All right, let's wrap this up for today.
Thank you for coming along for the ride.
This is a joke of the day.
Actually, there's two little jokes of the day.
From Jay, who emailed me at Chewing the Fat at the Blaze.com.
One I actually, you know, I smiled at and the other is pretty much a dad joke.
Well, they both are, but one is for sure a dad joke.
So you could use one at parties and one with the kids, okay?
Email from Jay J joke of the day.
Jokes, plural of the day.
What's the difference between in-laws and outlaws?
I don't know.
What's the difference between in-laws and outlaws?
Outlaws are wanted.
All right, number two, from Jay.
Where do werewolves live?
I don't know.
Where do werewolves live?
In a warehouse.
You could use both of those.
No problem.
Don't worry about it.
