Starting point is 00:00:00 Blaze Radio Network. And now, chewing the fat with Jeff Fisher. This is completely unacceptable. Free hotel breakfast may be checking out. Wait, what? Yeah. Apparently Hyatt Place, Hyatt Hotel brands, eliminated free breakfast from dozens of properties last year.
Starting point is 00:00:27 Holiday Inn also recently scaled back its offerings to a buffet only setup, apparently to save on labor and cut food waste. Complementary breakfast may no longer be worth the squeeze. Ah, boy, do I disagree with that. Boutique hotel owner, Mitchell Murray, told CNBC that the perk can cost five to seven percent of total revenue. So? But skipping breakfast can be a tough sell. Yeah, no kidding. Especially when we factor free means. We factor free meals into our booking when we book hotels. We like the idea of having that free breakfast. So while it costs you 5 to 7% of the total revenue, you're going to make up for that on the back end. But, you know, again, what do I know? I just don't like the idea of hotels saying,
Starting point is 00:01:23 nope, the free breakfast is over. Good luck. God bless. Welcome. Welcome to chewing the fat. Fat 5 Plus. You know, speaking of hotels, I was looking at booking.com, and they have a list of most welcoming cities. Okay, if you say so. The first one is Montepalucino, Italy. Yeah, okay.
Starting point is 00:02:17 Meong, Taiwan. Yeah, when you think about traveling, man, do you want to go to Mahong, Taiwan? then San Martin de Los Andes in Argentina. I'm sure, I mean, it looks beautiful, the picture that they gave. Harrogate United Kingdom. Okay. Fredericksburg, Texas, United States.
Starting point is 00:02:37 Yeah, that's Texas Hill country right there. Perreemp all this Brazil. Swakamund, Nambia. Yeah. When I want to go traveling, I think, hey, you know what? go to Nambea. But I'm sure that booking.com is saying that Swakobund, Nambia, is very welcoming. Takayama, Japan. Okay, I mean, it looks okay. Think about going to Japan. Nusa heads, Australia. Yeah, let's go down under. That is beautiful. And Klopidia, Lithuania.
Starting point is 00:03:16 Don't really want to go to Lithuania, but, you know, it's a welcoming city. So if you're thinking about traveling, those are some of bookings. Looking.com's most welcoming cities. Good news. I guess it's good news. This 69-year-old Brenda Ogden from Yorkshire, there by the North Sea, Hornsea East Yorkshire, she apparently lost her prosthetic leg. She had this custom-made titanium blade-style prosthesis, and she was all ready to go swimming with her swim group,
Starting point is 00:04:13 all excited that she got her fake leg and they're posing for a picture and a giant wave comes in and knocks them down and takes the leg with them. So there she is, stuck with, you know, half a leg.
Starting point is 00:04:31 And that really, I mean, I'm sad for her. She's standing there, you know, she had her leg amputated below the knee five years earlier following this horrific. if a car crash. And, you know, I'm sure she's, uh, struggled with that for, you know, five years. And that's very sad. And I'm not making fun of her needing an amputated leg or having an
Starting point is 00:04:55 amputated leg and needing a prosthesis. But, uh, apparently she waited over a year to get the false leg. Wow. Welcome to the United Kingdom. And had, uh, only had the blade for a week before the disaster on the beach. So it cost her two thousand. And apparently she just went without it after it washed away. It doesn't say, yeah, I reached out and they're going to make me a new one. It just says that she didn't have her leg. Then 10 months later, this lady is walking along the beach, the same beach that swallowed up her fake leg.
Starting point is 00:05:36 And she was out looking for fossils. And she finds the leg. the sea washed it back up on the shore. And so she said, I saw something unusual and caught the corner of my eye. I was curious. I walked over there and it was trapped on top of some fallen rocks. And then she posted a picture of her find on a Facebook group called Holderness Coast Fossils. Man, do I love that group.
Starting point is 00:06:04 Holderness Coast fossils. And it was, it identifies as Brenda's. They said, hey, that's Brenda's. So they hooked Brenda up, and she was worried that she may never see the leg again. And she was, it says here she was chuffed to have found it for her and to deliver it back. So the sea spit it back out and she was chuffed. What do you mean you've never heard the word chuffed? Well, it's a British word, and it means very pleased, delighted, or satisfied.
Starting point is 00:06:46 It's commonly used to express happiness about an achievement or receiving a gift, often phrased as chuffed to bits, or dead chuffed, meaning really pleased. Well, she didn't say that she was dead chuffed, and she didn't say she was chuffed, bits just chuffed. So I'm not, you know, congratulations to Brenda. She's got her leg back. And I guess she just walked around for 10 months or hopped around for 10 months waiting to say, don't you have a fake leg? Yeah, no. I got knocked over by a wave and the sea took it. Okay, good story. Ten months later, she's got the leg back. Have you ever wondered how an elephant can know what he's touching?
Starting point is 00:07:37 Does that mean they have thick skin? They have a poor eyesight. I know, I know. And they do have great memories, though, right? Of course they do. Well, if you've ever been to a zoo and you've, you know, petted an elephant, they have unusual hair on their trunk.
Starting point is 00:07:58 Well, researchers have discovered that the hairs on elephant's trunks are responsible for their extraordinary sense of touch. Yeah. Yeah. The elephant sensory hairs have a stiff base and a soft tip, which enables them to precisely feel objects and recognize where contact is made. So when they're crushing you with their trunk, I mean, when they're playing with you with their trunk, they can feel it and they know what it is. So these properties are similar to the whiskers of cats and they are, I guess, completely different from the hairs of rats and mice.
Starting point is 00:08:32 Man, aren't you happy? You don't have to research that. Anyway, the research team, at the Department of Haptic Intelligence at the Max Planick Institute for Intelligence Systems, love them, was joined by researchers from the fields of neuroscience and material science. These applications are going to be used in robotics.
Starting point is 00:08:54 The findings will be used in the development of robot assistant sensor technologies that mimic the stiffness gradient of elephant tactical hairs. Okay, so when I get my doobot and the bot is, you know, moving around, the house. I don't want my robot
Starting point is 00:09:09 to have sensory hairs on it. But you know, maybe they can figure out how to make it happen without my doo-bot walking around with sensory hairs sticking out from the body. But you know, as long as it can do the dishes
Starting point is 00:09:25 and still, you know, clean the house, I guess I'm all right with the sensory hairs. Be sure to follow me on my social media at Jeffey JFR on X. Jeff Fisher Radio on Facebook and Instagram. You can email the show
Starting point is 00:09:46 anytime chewing the fat at the blaze.com. Chewing the fat at the blaze.com. I know many of you have emailed me asking, hey, what's going on? When are you going to do the show again? Well, here it is. Chewing the fat, fat 5 plus. I know.
Starting point is 00:10:02 See, what happened was, and I'll give you the excuses now, okay? Thanks for coming along for the ride. I appreciate it. And you can always, you know, subscribe to a Blaze TV as well. BlazTV.com slash jeffy. Get you $20 off an annual subscription.
Starting point is 00:10:17 BlazTV.com slash jeffy because, you know, I do the Pet Gray Unleashed program every day, Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. Central. And then we do an overtime episode that airs on Blaze TV, which you could see and watch and listen. If you were Blaze TV subscriber, blazTV.com slash Jeffy. So, you know, then I was hobbling around on my knee, and then I hurt my back and I'm hobbling around on that.
Starting point is 00:10:45 Then I'm using, I used a walker for a little bit to move around. And now I'm just hobbling back on the knee. My back is better. And I am using, well, you know, my cane, my favorite cane in the whole world. I used to have a full cane collection. It's dwindled down over the years, but I still have my grandfather's cane that I'm using. Anyway, and so, you know, with the schedule of the show,
Starting point is 00:11:06 and then, you know, I'm barely moving around. I didn't get to it, so I apologize. Okay. I'm here for you, though. It's okay. I got your emails. I got your messages on X and Facebook and Instagram. I got it.
Starting point is 00:11:19 Okay. I got it. But I'm here now and it's okay. You know, one of the things I found interesting, I talked a little bit about it on Saturday morning live with Brad Stags, which I do every Saturday, Saturday morning live at 9 a.m. Central with Brad Staggs. There was an issue this week too because X was having an issue. If you were there when it was live, you could log on and you'd see it in the
Starting point is 00:11:45 You know what's live now segment of your X account. You click on it and there's the show But the restream wasn't happening. So it looks like there was no show to go back and listen to and it gave I went I went to X and they gave me They gave me a way to fix the problem with the restreams and I was fascinated by all I had to do was follow what they said. If X isn't Restreaming for you, log onto X using the account you're streaming to.
Starting point is 00:12:18 Head to your X profile. Click on your profile photo where the live label is. I never could find that. A view of your active live stream will open. Click and share button in the bottom right corner and select post this. And then I'm guessing type the title of your stream. If you want to, I had to redo everything
Starting point is 00:12:35 that we already did to stream it. So I just never could find it and never did it. So there was a Saturday morning live this week if you were there live. Maybe you should have done that. Maybe you should have been there live. Anyway, I mentioned the Amazon ring ditching controversial AI surveillance plans. Not the one you're thinking about.
Starting point is 00:12:53 Not the one with looking for dogs. But the doorbell maker, the smart doorbell maker, ended a partnership with flock safety, which makes AI tools for police. And they called the breakup mutual. Weird. So the company disclosed. the end of the partnership. And, you know, this is during the time, you know, right after the Super Bowl ad, touting its search party feature, which uses a neighborhood imagery to find lost dogs. Uh-huh.
Starting point is 00:13:23 And so, man, when you look at that picture of how they stream the old neighborhoods, yeah, it's kind of like, okay, take it easy. I'm sure it's going to be used for more than dogs. Wish they had it in Tucson. Maybe we could have found Nancy Guthrie a lot sooner. But, uh, so flocks tech, which Ring said was never integrated into its devices is not related to that feature. Really weird. I don't know what they were doing with it because Flock claims that they have all the AI safeties
Starting point is 00:13:53 that you're looking for. I mean, they claim that they have their advanced AI technology in its security solutions, including video monitoring and drone systems aimed at enhancing safety and crime prevention. Now, we've seen them out in the, the wild working still. They have, you know, they have the cameras that automatically detect and track people in vehicles. We've seen them in parking lots, large parking lots, the flock
Starting point is 00:14:23 computer police monitor roaming the parking lots. It's all there. It looks, they're pretty big. So I don't think you're going to knock them over, although I'm surprised more people haven't given it a shot. And the system says that it can automatically detect individuals in restricted areas, and this feature is particularly useful for monitoring outdoor spaces. Uh-huh. And responding quickly to suspicious activities. Hey, what are you doing over there? So, uh, and then they've, we have alerted police.
Starting point is 00:14:53 So I'm not sure what the ring security system was doing with flock, but they're not doing it any longer. Then we have the big trial going out of New Mexico with, uh, meta and Mark Zuckerberg. And so apparently, they are in court in New Mexico because they are being sued because their product harms children.
Starting point is 00:15:16 New Mexico's Attorney General alleged that Meta's social media apps exposed children to exploitation by prioritizing engagement over safety. Now, Meta says that they're going to prove that this is, we have longstanding commitment to supporting young people.
Starting point is 00:15:32 Uh-huh. So they have that, they have that trial going on. And then there's a California case going on. Well, I see a headline that says that Mark Zuckerberg is supposed to testify. And I thought, Zuckerberg is going to testify in the New Mexico case? Nope, that's the California case. So he's going to testify this week.
Starting point is 00:15:52 That's going to be fascinating. I can't wait to see Mark Zuckerberg, this dufus, who's a billionaire, Meta's head on the stand. It's going to be fun to watch. I hope they carry it live. Oh, and I mentioned Nancy Guthrie and maybe the ring cameras would have found her. I mean, that case is amazing to me. It's still ongoing. What are we, if you're listening live today, it is the 16th of February, 2026. So it's day 16 of Nancy Guthrie
Starting point is 00:16:23 missing. And we can go through the entire timeline of, you know, she went, the last people to see her alive were that was the daughter and the son-in-law. And Savannah's been out there. I don't think she's coming back to the, she won't come back to the today show. In fact, we're seeing, we're seeing reports that she, inside sources, saying that she's going to leave the Today Show. Yeah, she'll probably leave the Today Show. And then she'll end up suing
Starting point is 00:16:50 NBC for allowing this information about her mom to get out there and it's their fault. NBC's kind of admitted it that they were looking at it saying, yeah, we probably shouldn't have done those back home stories with Nancy and Savannah. You think?
Starting point is 00:17:08 I mean, but when you do those stories, I don't think NBC is at fault, really. You're doing those stories, and all the parties are happy with the stories. You saw the pictures and the video of them smiling and laughing and having fun. Savannah did her thing about Tucson and what a beautiful place it was. And so, you know, I don't, we're not doing that thinking about special security. I'm a little surprised that her house was so open like that. You'd think that she'd have a little bit better security than,
Starting point is 00:17:40 she did but you know whatever and the timeline is so strange and she's still missing and i'm really surprised that we have not had a uh uh savannah has not said hey i'll give a million dollars to anyone who can help me find my mom and that hasn't happened just i mean is she broke she's been making eight mill a year from the today show i think she's got the money but she's still allowing the FBI and the government to say they're going to give a reward for anything that helps. And I think it's up to 100,000 now to find her. And we haven't found anything. I mean, we have zero suspects.
Starting point is 00:18:22 They arrested one guy that let him go. I guess they arrested a few other people this weekend for what? I'm not sure. They said it was related to the Guthrie case, but they let them all go. And then Savannah posted a video this weekend or, you know, last night, for those of you, listening live, that, you know, she was really a weird, strange video. And so it was almost like she was talking to a family member. Huh.
Starting point is 00:18:47 Because, I mean, many people think it's the sister-in-law and brother. And some people would say that they probably, you know, it was, didn't mean for it to happen. And it did. And so they made it look like a kidnapping, but she's already gone. I don't know. I mean, it's just so weird. is an 84-year-old woman on, you know, medication and illness still alive after 16 days without medication? I mean, we haven't been told that she had taken medication or they took medication
Starting point is 00:19:24 with her. I don't know. I honestly, I don't know. I hope she is. I hope she is. But I don't think she is. And will we ever find her? I don't know. I don't know. It's looking. more and more like we're never going to find her. And we want to know. We want this thing wrapped up. We want to know one way or the other. Is she alive and struggling in some cellar somewhere and we finally rescued her? Or has she been dead all this time?
Starting point is 00:19:52 And that's why they were looking in the septic tank. I didn't see anybody go down in that septic tank. I'm not doing that. But somebody should have. They just had the FBI guy, you know, shining his flash out of down there. So, I mean, somebody, they should have sent one. one of the beginners, you know, one of the rookies down into the septic tank to at least look, right?
Starting point is 00:20:14 I mean, that's just me. It would seem that some of the investigation styles of the FBI and the sheriff's department left a little bit to be desired. But what do I know? And how many more man hours are we going to give to this case? She's been missing, presumed kidnapped for 16 days. And we have zero. I mean, we're picking up trash.
Starting point is 00:20:37 a mile from the house and saying, whoa, it's got like DNA, does it? Okay. If you say so, it's just such a, the whole thing is weird. And I, it's feeling now after 16 days,
Starting point is 00:20:51 we're never going to know. And that is probably the saddest thing of all. I know. And how many citizen journalists now are going to be out there with their independent podcast? What happened to Nancy Guthrie? It's the Nancy.
Starting point is 00:21:07 Guthrie story you haven't heard before. I mean, it's happening as we speak. And how long are we leaving the billboards up until the billboard company decides, yeah, we can sell that billboard to McDonald's. So Nancy's got to come down. Well, well, well.
Starting point is 00:21:41 Alexei, Nevalani, Navalani, Navalani, Navlani, Nevlani, Navlani, Nevlani. Some more for Phalas. Say it, right. right. He was poisoned, big surprise, by the Kremlin with a toxin from a poison dart frog. New forensic testing shows that Russian opposition leader Alexei Nizani was likely killed with Epabatidine. I think that's EPI. Epabatidine. Yes, that's how you pronounce it. It's epibadidine,
Starting point is 00:22:16 right? Yeah, that's what I thought. Okay, so epibatididine is a powerful neuro-tebratine. toxin found in South American poison dart frogs. Oh, okay. So, Putin had him killed. They've denied it. Russia denied the accusation. Of course they did. So the UK, France,
Starting point is 00:22:38 Germany, Sweden, they all, and the Netherlands said that independent lab analysis detected the rare toxin in preserved tissue samples from his body. They argue there's no credible natural explanation for its presence.
Starting point is 00:22:54 Yeah, no kidding. I mean, hello, he died in prison out there in some Arctic penal colony, and Russia said, yeah, it was natural causes. Oh, okay, natural causes brought on by Epabadidine. Okay, who died today? Who died today? Well, we've got a long list to get due since we last got together. So let's begin with Sonny Jurgensen.
Starting point is 00:23:23 I think we mentioned him on Saturday morning live. Sonny Jorgensen, Hall of Fame quarterback, dead at the age of 91. I got to say, Sunny Jurgson. And then Mickey Lollich died, former Detroit Tiger pitcher, 1968 World Series MVP. He was the last pitcher to earn three complete game wins in a World Series. Mickey Lollich. Plus, Sonny Jurgensen and Mickey Lohich were both kind of fat guys.
Starting point is 00:23:49 So I'm kind of bummed. We've lost a couple of fat guys athletes. And we don't see them with those kind of athletes any longer. It's kind of sad. So, I mean, Sunny had, I think, an 18-year NFL career, most of it with the Redskins. I mean, the team from Washington. And then I think he played with the Eagles as well. So, I mean, he was awesome.
Starting point is 00:24:15 And Mickey Lolleach was awesome. And they were, you know, kind of fat guys. So I'm kind of sad to see them go. Hadeke Sato. Hadegisado passed away. He was the creator of Sega. He died at 77 years of age, rest in peace. And then we have, we, James Vanderbeek passed away at the age of 48.
Starting point is 00:24:37 Very sad. He spent, you know, Dawson's Creek actor, you know, James. He battled cancer and they had six children, six beautiful children in a white. and apparently he spent most of his fortune trying to heal himself of the horrible cancer that he had. And obviously, I say it didn't work, but it probably worked because, you know, he lasted, maybe he lasted longer, right? But people have created a go-fund me for them, and they, I think, raised over $2.5 million. That will help.
Starting point is 00:25:14 That will help the wife and the kids get through it a little bit. easier because apparently he brought a ranch and he wanted his family to have this place to go to. So I don't know if it's still paid for, if it's going to be paid for, but the GoFund me with two and a half million will definitely help the wife and the kids. So rest in peace to James Vanderbyke, dead at the age of 48. Then Brad Arnold, three doors down, singer, dead at the age of 47 after kidney cancer. I mean, holy. cow. I mean, I've been hooked on three doors down for a while. My wife got me hooked on them quite some time ago. So very sad to see Brad go. Rest in peace. And as long as we're talking about
Starting point is 00:26:04 musicians, rest in peace to Greg Brown, Greg Brown, dead at the age of 56. Don't, don't look at me like Greg Brown. Who are you talking about? He is the founding guitarist for the group Cake. Yeah, you knew that. Who didn't know that Greg Brown was the founding guitarist of the alternative rock group
Starting point is 00:26:32 cake? Apparently the band's hit is the distance. Anyway, Cake announced Brown's death on social media, writing the usual it is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Greg Brown's passing after a brief illness.
Starting point is 00:26:48 Greg was an integral part of Cake's early sound. Yeah, that's when they were the best. Cake was the best when he was there in their early sound. So, rest in peace, to Greg Brown, guitarist, founding guitarist,
Starting point is 00:27:04 of the rock group, Cake, dead at the age of 56. Holy cow, somebody's in trouble. I just got to, I just received an email in my inbox. And it's from a person at the Blaze, Blaze Media. And it says, hello, everyone.
Starting point is 00:27:24 We would like to address an ongoing concern regarding restroom cleanliness. It's not me. It's not me. Recently, there have been repeated issues with restrooms being left in an unsanitary condition. That is unacceptable. As adults in a professional setting, we are expected to treat common facilities with respect and leave them clean for others. Yeah, no kidding.
Starting point is 00:27:52 Maintaining a safe, hygienic, and professional environment is a shared responsibility. Please ensure restrooms are used as intended and left clean after each use. Yeah, please ensure restrooms are used as intended and left clean after each use. What has been going on in the bathrooms at Blaze Media? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:28:16 but an investigation has ensued. So if these issues continue, according to this email, further action may be taken to address the matter. Holy cow. What is going to happen? Are we putting cameras in the bathroom? No, you can't have that. Are we going to have a guard?
Starting point is 00:28:35 And we have guests in the building all the time. So it could be a guest. That is awesome. I mean, it's not awesome at all. We've all seen bathrooms that people have no respect for public bathrooms. But these really aren't public bathrooms. While they are public bathrooms, they also are employee bathrooms.
Starting point is 00:28:57 And that's where you get the issue from. But public bathrooms, holy cow. There's plenty of times when you look like that. How can people be like that? But apparently there's an issue, and I will update you on the bathroom investigation. In fact, that may be the title of today's episode, bathroom etiquette. and be sure to email me
Starting point is 00:29:19 Chewing the Fat at the blaze.com any issues that you've been involved in concerning public, private work bathrooms because I know that I have seen a number of things happen in a public bathroom and you're like, how is that possible? All right, I'll leave you with the joke of the day.
Starting point is 00:29:42 This joke comes from John, who emailed it in at Chewing the Fat at the Blaze.com. A woman goes to see you. your doctor says, doc, every time I sneeze, I have an orgasm. The doctor says, are you taking anything for that? Yes, pepper. See, because she was, no, yeah, you got it. Stream and subscribe to more Blaze Media content at theblaze.com slash podcasts.
