Starting point is 00:00:00 Season one, episode one, the Walking Dead, Daryl Dixon, titled M. Purdue, meaning the lost soul. Episode description on IMDB, Daryl's journey across a broken but resilient France as he hopes to find a way back home. Myself, Jeff Fisher, Jason Betrill, and Maximus Fisher. And that makes this talking, walking dead. Gentlemen, welcome to it. Good to have you back. The latest Walking Dead edition, Daryl Dixon, we saw the first 10 minutes a month or so ago. We chatted a little bit about that at the end of our fear series. And so it was good to see the entire episode. I will say, I enjoyed it. I have some questions. I have some thoughts. But. overall, I enjoyed it. Jason? Yeah, there's a few things that I also have questions about.
Starting point is 00:01:12 They're probably just saving that for a reveal. But I got to tell you, it felt like, to me, a new era of Walking Dead storytelling and presentation, I guess. I felt like I was watching a movie the entire time. It felt like a movie. The way it was shot, the way it was laid out. I was like, this is kind of game changing as far as TV shows for the Walking Dead universe. I loved it. I couldn't be more happy.
Starting point is 00:01:42 I personally loved the way I agree with Jason. It was shot great. Like after Dead City and this, like Walking Dead is back in a good way. Yeah, yeah, no question. I will say that, you know, like this is going to be another just six episodes. And if each episode is shot like a set. separate movie, although with a, you know, an underlying storyline. That will be really good. I will be happy about that. That's fine. I'm fine with that. If it, if it forces them to, you know,
Starting point is 00:02:15 it's like, and you know this, you know, Jeffrey, like, and radio is you've got to, your words have to mean something because you have a limited amount of time. So you can't just ramble on and on and not say anything. Unless it's my show. But go ahead. Let's one of your shows, but you do that on purpose. But that's one of my biggest gripe. with the Walking Dead. It's like, especially like the flagship show because they seem like
Starting point is 00:02:36 like they take forever to get to a point. And they're like, guys, come on, stop stalling and get to what we want. So if like this short episode count makes them put more into it
Starting point is 00:02:46 and actually get to where they're going sooner, I think that's cool. Yes. I agree, but I think fear did that more than the flagship show. Oh, they're all guilty of it.
Starting point is 00:02:54 I don't know. Yeah, I feel like, I feel like the Walking Dead definitely did that. Even Dead City is guilty of that. I was like, come on, guys. Yeah, yeah, although Dead City was better at it.
Starting point is 00:03:09 Yeah, it was a lot better at it. Better, but still guilty. Yeah. I did enjoy, okay, so we get him walking across France. I still have a question of, and I know we talked a little bit about this after the first 10 minutes was released, but, and it wasn't fear it was Dead City that we wrapped up, is that where he washes ashore. That's on the other side of France.
Starting point is 00:03:33 That's not on the Atlantic side of France. So I'd like to know how, I'm supposed to believe that he traveled on that little boat all the way around underneath Spain above Africa to France. Come on now. He was on the boat. He was on the bigger boat. Yeah, the bigger boat that we were to believe is on the other side of France. That's where he's headed now. Because it's a boat.
Starting point is 00:03:55 So it traveled. They float, Jeffie. Yeah. Okay. Okay. I got it. All right. Fine.
Starting point is 00:04:07 I just feel like maybe, you know, maybe the ship that he was on, it wasn't a boat. It was a ship, by the way. The, it was on the, yeah, the other side of France where he washed ashore. And maybe that's where his ship was. And he's trying to get to the ships on the other side of France, which would, you know, be on the Atlantic, which would get him back to America. Okay, I'll give you that. Okay, no problem.
Starting point is 00:04:34 Can we establish, so that's part of my question. So I'm sure Max knows these. So when they ended the flagship show, did he leave to go find Rick? Is that what he was doing? I think so. He rolled off on his motorcycle or something. He just left.
Starting point is 00:04:51 He didn't say why, and he just was like, I need to go. So maybe these people, So maybe his investigation to find Rick led him to the French people on the boat and maybe they're part of CRM or connected somehow? Maybe they're connected to the, you know, she's, they were doing some kind of scientific trials, right? On the walkers, that's why they had him. That's why they had him caged up, right? With the other walkers, only he wasn't, he wasn't a walker.
Starting point is 00:05:21 He was just a human for the trials, right? Maybe we'll find out. What do you think of a burning walker, where they, even if they grab you, you get burnt? Yeah, well, we talked a little bit about that because that was in the first 10 minutes. But nothing ever came of that, right? I mean, other than a new scar. Yeah. I didn't understand it.
Starting point is 00:05:43 We went to the nunnery and the nunnery, you know, carterized it with the, you know, the burning probe. And, uh, burning probe. You could quote me on that. It's like medical definition. I learned that at medical school. The burning probe. But that was it. Could you please bring the burning probe to room 42, please?
Starting point is 00:06:11 I need that on a shirt. But that's all we heard of it, though, right? I mean, the nun kind of knew what it was, that he was hurt. But it didn't, we didn't get any more walkers like that. And we haven't seen any of the running walkers, right? We're still doing the regular slow-moving, controlling walkers. I think they wanted to start off this episode slow with kind of regular walkers, but like slowly introduce the new ones, like the burning one.
Starting point is 00:06:44 And I think that might play a bigger role later in the show. It's a good point that I think they missed the mark there. I think it would have been a lot cooler if from, you know, minute one, he's having to race against all these variants. And I think, yeah, to see the difference, right? He's in France and he's seeing like, whoa, what is happening to really kind of confuse his world? It was interesting that, you know, I like the idea of the nunnery. And then we have the, you know, we have the genius kid.
Starting point is 00:07:15 It's kind of, I don't know, it reminds me of another show that was kind of a hit series. Oh, yeah, the last of us. Yeah. And it's exactly that, right? Exactly that. Yeah, I agree. I'm fine with, I'm actually fine with it.
Starting point is 00:07:30 You know, it's like in all entertainment. Everyone's copycat. I don't really care. If it's a good story, I'm down for it. Is the thing. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:38 So for all, all people listening who don't play video games, as we all know, the last of us was a video game before a TV show. You know what movie kind of actually ripped off the last of us? And the movie was amazing. Logan. Oh,
Starting point is 00:07:54 yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So minus the global pandemic. Right. Well, there kind of was one on mutants. Huh? Ever watched Logan? Like, the last X-Men movie.
Starting point is 00:08:08 Yeah. Remember, there was a... I was forced to, actually. It's a great movie. My wife loves those stupid movies. And we continue. No, was there the pandemic? I'm confused.
Starting point is 00:08:22 They made a forced pandemic. on mutants to get rid of mutants. Oh, I see, okay. That was the whole point of... They went against the mutants. Yes. Okay. Yes. So then anyway, and, you know, we, I like the nunnery. I'm surprised that the nunnery lasted this long, right?
Starting point is 00:08:38 We're, we're to believe that it finally comes to an end because the girl and her supposed grandfather lied to the bad guy saying that Daryl killed his brother, right? So he is the bad guy now after Dixon because he believes he killed his brother. It was a part of this weird military group that we don't know much about that could be connected to CRM like Jason said. Or maybe they're not. Maybe they're just maybe they're the remnants of the France military. I'm having a hard time with the French big bad guys because every time they talk, I feel like I'm in a romantic comedy or something like that.
Starting point is 00:09:17 It completely takes it out. They just start speaking French and I'm like, they're not that scary. I don't know. Is it just because of the language? You know, I'm like, how they talk. That's actually, that's the language. Yeah, we know. That's the point.
Starting point is 00:09:35 I know. I know, but I feel like we'll get some more, some better bad guys as the trip progresses. Some of the promos have showed, you know, as he finally ends up getting to Paris. And maybe that's where we start seeing some of the, some of the bad guy walkers, right? The walkers that have progressed beyond just the slow-moving ones.
Starting point is 00:10:01 I mean, that's what I'm hoping for all out. I'm ready to see those for sure. That's another crazy thing. And I think that they said this was going to happen within the arc of the show, but they're going to be in like multiple different scenarios or scenes. So like you had like all like the, yeah, like a nunnery, you know, like an ancient building and like the sweeping countryside. Then it looks like we're going straight to the city,
Starting point is 00:10:26 you know, kind of like dead city. And you're like, good gosh. I mean, just the stuff they're cramming into this season is insane. Well, that's right,
Starting point is 00:10:32 because he's got it now that they showed the map that he's traveling to, right? To take, he's got the, you know, he's got the nun and he's got the genius kid. And he's going to deliver him. She's going to then take him to,
Starting point is 00:10:47 you know, the ships. but each episode is going to be traveling to these different cities along the map, right? So we may not even get to Paris until the end. That might be it, but... Yeah. You know, I love the, you know, a lot of the promos show the bad guy in France talking about, you know, hear that noise. That's Paris crying and stuff.
Starting point is 00:11:11 We may not even get to that to the end. We may run into, you know, other French lovers, quarrels. No, serious. He's scary. Okay. Okay. But, and then we still have the bad guy who ended up with, was that a problem? Was that part of the future promo where the, the bad guy from this episode, the Jeep bad guy, he was talking to the ship lady? Was that just the promo for upcoming shows?
Starting point is 00:11:48 I think so. That didn't happen in this episode. That did not happen this episode. So he hasn't actually met with ship lady yet. No. Okay. Because the ship lady, she seems like a formidable force. Because she was like semi-threatening the captain of that one ship.
Starting point is 00:12:08 Yeah, well, I'm surprised. I don't know that he actually lived, right? Because he was saying he was only as good as his man. And she was like, my dad used to tell. me as a captain of a trawler, you're the captain is, the men are only as good as the captain. So, why don't you shut your face?
Starting point is 00:12:26 He did live, but I think that she was giving him like a short leash. When I first saw her, I actually thought she was that, uh, chip in world beyond. Yes. The hair was the same and everything. I was like, wait, is that? Oh, it's not her. It's the same. It's the same type of character.
Starting point is 00:12:44 Exactly the same. Because I thought for sure that was her as well. And it was not. I know that would that would have crossed over the worlds, right? Well, it's in prison now, though. Well, but we could have worked. I mean, that could have changed in the time frame. I mean, she was still, you know, she was still a big boss lady. So she could have gotten out and been put on this, you know, scientific mission for CRM, which would have, you know, breached the gap between the worlds. See, that's what, that is the missing link that could really bring the show home, you know, that crossover. Yeah, I want to see that so bad. Plus, those are the same people that know where Rick is, which would have closed the gap on that.
Starting point is 00:13:27 Yeah. I mean, it was perfect. That should have been her. Absolutely should have been her. 100%. You know, speaking to that, did you see, that's just a side note in our talking, walking dead world. We have fear coming up shortly in October, the final eight episodes. I know, I know.
Starting point is 00:13:44 But I thought for sure they're bringing back a character from early on fear. And I thought for sure it was your boy. Who? I thought for sure it was your boy. Our guy from, you know, they had the Winnebago warrior, the fashion Winnebago was a guy. Metro Negan. I thought for sure it was him,
Starting point is 00:14:17 but it's not. He shows up at his silk shirt and he's like, hey, guys, it's all net list. I thought for sure it was him, but they're bringing back the one guy from the farm, from the ranch from like season three. When they showed up,
Starting point is 00:14:30 when I saw his picture, I was like, oh my gosh, they are bringing back Metro Negan. But nope, they're not. No, very disappointing.
Starting point is 00:14:37 But, God, okay, can you imagine if, like, Darryl Dixon is like super, super good. And we went from Dead City, which was really good, to Darryl Diction, which feels like it could be better. And then we go into fear and it's the same old fear.
Starting point is 00:14:54 It's going to be the same old fear. I mean, they've already shot those episodes. It's going to be boring. We've all heard the reviews of, oh, we have to, it's going to be great because Maggie's back. Madison, or Madison, and Strand is back. and they're bringing back Metro Negan. That's not Metro Negan. Very disappointing.
Starting point is 00:15:14 And so they're bringing back a guy who we thought was dead that I thought Madison killed. But nope, he's still alive. So, okay. Metro Deegan shows up and everyone's like, he's always like, I got an idea. And everyone's like, oh, God, here we go again. He's like, we get in our best dress clothing and we show up in Winnebago's. And we just park in front of the front door. I wanted it to be him so.
Starting point is 00:15:39 bad. I literally laughed out loud when I saw the story about this Troy Otto and I thought, oh my gosh, that is him, but it's not. Again, it's not. I told you, I told you everybody thought it was going to be
Starting point is 00:15:55 Troy and you were like, who is this guy? Yeah, they were right. Yeah, the Troy guy from the ranch. The one of the ones. Because you were like, who? Yeah, I did. I honestly, I thought it was Metro Deggan because I don't remember this guy. And then as I was,
Starting point is 00:16:09 reading about him, I remember his character from the ranch, and I thought he was dead, right? Madison killed him with a hammer, but I guess not. They are bringing him back? That's what they're claiming. Why? I
Starting point is 00:16:23 Jason. Those are the dark days of fear. I don't know. It was the dark days for us, but I don't think it was the dark days for the dangleberries that loved Madison. That was Cowboys and Indians season. Yeah. I
Starting point is 00:16:39 And I know. Good gosh. I know. Okay. I know. And there's what six episodes of that, right? Maybe eight of fear. So we only have six episodes of Daryl, which is kind of disappointing.
Starting point is 00:16:59 Actually, I was hoping for more. But it's good that we got this in. And then we have fear kicking up. And then sometime after the first of the year is when we have Rick and Michelle. Yeah. So, I mean, we do have that to look forward to. But I don't know how they're going to breach the worlds. I mean, Daryl wants to get back to the States.
Starting point is 00:17:22 I mean, that's what his goal is now, right, to deliver the kid and then find, get back to the ships and get back to the United States. And so, I mean, okay, well, why did he come this way? if this is where he believed Rick was going to be. He was captured by our ship people. Maybe our ship people were in the States, and then he was captured. That could be a possibility. Which is very possible,
Starting point is 00:17:53 which is why they're bringing walkers and humans back from the States for it's France's way of having their own slaves, bringing them back to France for scientific trials. Right? Trying to slow down the fast walkers and the burning walkers. It's possible. It's possible, I guess. I'm starting to get worried about the Rick show, Rick and Michone.
Starting point is 00:18:19 At this point, I'm almost like, I don't know if I want them to do it. And are they, is it done? I mean, we're still on strike, right? I mean, we're still, we still have the writers and the actor strike. So how much of that was done? I think those, I believe the show is called Those That Live, or we are the ones that live, one of those. And I believe it was pretty much done by the time the strike hit. So I could be wrong.
Starting point is 00:18:48 I'll have to look into that, but I think so. Okay. Okay. I mean, if they weren't 100% done, then we may never get to it. I mean, think about all of like the remakes or when they bring back some of these legacy characters. that we used to love from back in the day and they just destroy the main character. I mean, just destroy. You know, like Luke Skywalker, freaking he-man.
Starting point is 00:19:16 You're saying that, but they did a good job. Indiana Jones. They destroy. Like, the brands we used to love, they destroy them. And I'm getting nervous about what they're going to do to Rick. If he is like this effeminate, emasculated guy that needs to be saved by Michone, which is totally in line. for how Hollywood rights characters now.
Starting point is 00:19:37 It is. I will delete every podcast that I've ever done on this show. But they've got a good job with Megan and Daryl. We have a good track record, dude. We do have a good track record. We do have a good track record with that. So it is possible they won't do that. Mike Negan.
Starting point is 00:19:56 Why do you say it like that? Megan was good in Dead City. They talk about emasculating what they did in Negan. Niga had a couple of good Niedman had a couple That's to be seen Like the jury is still out on that He's had a couple of good
Starting point is 00:20:10 Actions But he still could be on this Like a escalating Overall He has overall They have lost his His bad guy way There's a difference
Starting point is 00:20:21 Too bad guy And being emasculated I'm just saying I'm just saying This is hard word We're talking about here So be careful What you ask for
Starting point is 00:20:32 With the Rick and Miche Hollywood and AMC. That's been a good couple to take care of some people's masculine ways. I would love to be wrong about it. And I hope it's not true, but I'm getting nervous, man. Getting nervous. I know.
Starting point is 00:20:54 I know. That's fine. Just stop thinking of it. Filming wrapped in March. Don't worry about it. So filming wrapped in March for Rick and Michelle. So if hopefully, I mean, if they, but what if they don't like what they had? If they have to go back, it's not going to happen.
Starting point is 00:21:10 Right? They can use that as an excuse that any of the reshoots, any of that can't happen because of the strike. And, you know, they'll never get to it, which is possible. I'd like to believe that not be the case, but it very well could be the case because they may look at it and go, holy crap, what did we do to Rick? We need to reshoot this. And, you know, some of the, you know, some of the trials people might go, hey, we don't really like what you did to Rick.
Starting point is 00:21:42 And so they might want to reshoot that and they can't. Yeah. Or you could be on the hopeful side and actually they did a good, or say they did a good job. Hopefully they did a good job. Are you working for AMC? Yeah. I look on the bright side of things.
Starting point is 00:21:56 Like fan pressure actually works. So we cannot give them a pass. For instance, Transformers. Did a great job. The New Transformers movie was amazing. Yeah. Yeah, it was. But, you know, we'll see.
Starting point is 00:22:09 I mean, we'll see. You're right, Max. You know what? Gosh darn it. We'll give them a hope. We'll hold out hope for help. Everything's fine. No, not everything's fine.
Starting point is 00:22:20 I'm just saying, look on the bright side of things for change. That stopped with me a while back. Now I'm just a grumpy old man. And I will say, I will say that, Back to Daryl Dixon. I was really disappointed on our fighting nuns. I expected more from them. Well, okay.
Starting point is 00:22:41 We got nothing from the fighting nuns. No, they all killed each other, though. I know what the fighting nuns, I thought I expected to at least put up some kind of fight. What was that one chick? She was like shanking like prison style. Did you see like right when the fight broke out? She's like, shank, shak, shake, shake, shank. I was like, whoa.
Starting point is 00:22:58 I guess they just didn't have the same strength as the French lover boys. Because they also had they had powder weaponry and the nuns had medieval weaponry, which funny, there was only one, funny, there were two survivors from the nuns and only one survivor from the military group because of Darrell. Yeah, yeah, that's true. It was, it was fun. That was a fun battle. I was disappointed. I mean, I love the nunnery. And, you know, that's one of my, those are.
Starting point is 00:23:28 one of my favorites we saw some of the great photography of france over the years right i mean you see what's still standing or what is to believe to be still standing in the new world from the old world it was really it was really cool to see and uh you know it's cool to see darrell like you said it felt like a movie a lot of times as he was uh you know coming across france it was kind of cool to see that no question sure so so we have episode two coming up uh out of the six episodes the latest episode is alouette so we'll see if the french lover boys can continue on with their trek for darrell dixon and the walking dead final thoughts mr fisher i like this episode i am hopeful for the future of this show man i hope it's good yeah no doubt jason yeah uh like i said
Starting point is 00:24:20 i think it's a new era and in this type of storytelling if they can continue that trend i think we're in for a we're in for a treat you know as far as however else they expand this i just They just need a thing that would make it better is I want to see more of these variants because they teased it in the other show. And then I want to see a connection. We have to get to the connection. Yeah. We want to see the, we want to see the different variants, yes, for the walkers. And we want to see the connection of why we're, what are the two worlds together?
Starting point is 00:24:53 And that would have been easier if they already would have done it and done it our way. but apparently... I disagree with your way. She's in prison. Apparently they didn't reach out to us and they absolutely should have. Okay, so hey, thank you. Jason Butro, Maximus Fisher.
Starting point is 00:25:06 Thank you for listening to another edition of Talking Walking Dead.
