Starting point is 00:00:06 Season one, episode two, titled Who's There? Talking Walking Dead, Dead City Edition. Welcome to it. Myself, Jeff Fisher, Jason Buttrill, and Maximus Fisher. Episode description on IMDB, Maggie and Negan encounter native New Yorkers. Armstrong, the Lawman, revisits trauma, and Ginny attempts to adapt to change. Welcome to Talking Walking. did.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Jason, Maximus, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. I kind of feel heard, really. Like, we wanted old school. And we got it. This was a great episode. That was awesome to have our friend back. Let's congratulate the three of us.
Starting point is 00:01:07 We've got this done. Thank you. I said this, Max sent me a story about an interview with Jeffrey Dean and one of the after the episode shows on AMC Plus, they talked about how when Jeffrey got the script, he called and said how excited he was that they finally brought Negan back
Starting point is 00:01:28 and how he had been struggling in the other show for not being Negan. And I thought, hello, hello, what we've been saying the whole damn time? Wow. I know. He's essentially just been kind of gritting his teeth. through all these appearances.
Starting point is 00:01:46 Yes. That's good to know. Yes. I love the quote. Knock, knock. Oh, it was awesome. With the glass. It was awesome.
Starting point is 00:01:57 I know. I mean, I'm, can we just skip towards that? I mean, when he, when he said, I got this and you knew what he meant after he,
Starting point is 00:02:05 you could tell he was hurt. But when she, when that lady died. I was like, oh, this is going to be so good. Yes. And he didn't waste a minute.
Starting point is 00:02:14 He just, picked him up and dragged him off. I was like, oh, my God. Yeah, plus at that time, right, he knew that the numbers are small, right? He knows he knows he doesn't have the crowd that he hoped he'd have. He knows that he's got to get Croats attention. He knows that he's got to get Croats attention by saying, hey, I'm here. Okay. And so that does that. He had to go back to being himself. I'm sure being the person that he doesn't like to be. They telegraphed it, you know, and like the conversation he had with Maggie earlier when he said that I was only the monster when I needed to be. Right.
Starting point is 00:02:51 Yeah. When it called to protect, you know, my group, then I went into my schick. Right. It was just a stick, but an effective one. But did you watch the after the episode explainer where the, I don't know what he was, the director or whatever? Yeah, the showrunner. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:07 When he was like talking about how Maggie saw that in him, like coming back. Yeah. She was feeling guilty because she knew that we might need that behavior. We might need that. So that when we survive this. But she knows. Yeah, I mean, look, she brought him into the city to get her kid back, right? And now she knows that Negan knows this guy.
Starting point is 00:03:32 This guy knows Negan. They hate each other. And there's going to have to be a battle. It's going to have to be. And Negan's going to have to be Negan. and he can't be this guy that, you know, tries to make nice with Maggie and, you know, all of that. I have a feeling I like my, I was thinking about how the show would end as Negan takes over New York. Because Croat and dies, he finally kills Croat.
Starting point is 00:04:00 Yes. And Maggie's kid, what's his name? I'm not doing this. Herschel. Max is mad at me because I always ask him who's more people's names are. that Herschel decides to stay with Negan and Maggie's just going to have to go back on her own. I don't think that's going to happen. I don't think that's going to happen.
Starting point is 00:04:21 Old credit. That's going to happen. Just jam a screwdriver into her heart from the back. Just do it that way. She had the flashbacks. We're seeing the kid in the room. And it was, you know, they were, he was unhappy with her. And I mean, I think it could happen.
Starting point is 00:04:40 I think it could happen. happen. If Negan, if we go to this battle and Nigan kills Croat and saves Maggie in front of, what's his name again? Herschel. In front of Herschel. That absolutely could happen. Absolutely. I would love to see that. I don't think it's going to happen. And Nognege is just sitting on the throne, baby. Jesus.
Starting point is 00:05:08 On top of the, on top of the, on top of the, on top of the, on top of the. of Lady Liberty. That's right. As a new sheriff in town. I got, there's something I didn't quite, maybe I just missed it, but I wanted to ask you guys, when they were chasing after the old lady up the stairs, were the walkers climbing up the stair, or the ladder going after them? No. Yeah, I don't, no, they weren't climbing up the ladder. We saw some walkers fall down the elevator shaft. Not, so it was one. It was one walker. Okay, but I mean, they fell down the elevator
Starting point is 00:05:39 shaft and then whatever, I guess, whatever floor they were on, those walkers were coming after them. It must have been my eyes playing tricks on me because I could have swore when it was showed like a zoomed out version that there was people coming up. Nope, there was none. Oh, no. I don't have to go back and look. There wasn't.
Starting point is 00:05:57 Okay. I mean, I think of your word for it. There wasn't. Because I had said at one point during the show, boy, it's a good thing we don't have the running walkers. Yeah. Because, you know, they were, you know, Maggie's still living in the days of. when she sees the walkers come and she's got time.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Mm-hmm. Right? Because they're just, you know, stumbling and bumbling. So you start getting into the days of walkers starting to move. That changes the game completely. I love the zipline scene. That was great. Yeah, that was awesome.
Starting point is 00:06:27 And it was nice that, you know, the old lady bringing them into the fold, knowing that they were not Croats people. And it was a shame to see her go, although that's what's pushing the story. line ahead. So it was nice. I liked her people's, whatever we're calling them, I guess, New Yorkers, that I liked their death machine. Oh, they just ripped chunks out of people. Yeah, that was pretty awesome. I started calling, I was calling him the Power Tool Gang last night.
Starting point is 00:06:56 Yeah, Power Tool Gang. I thought it was, at first I thought it was like a nail gun. I guess it kind of was, except that they have the, you know, they have the chain in it, right, that shoots out. Like a, uh, a stunner, stun gun. It's just really... No, you know what it is? It's a lethal version of Batman's grappling hook. Yeah. Yeah. Anyway, it was a good way to kill him. I mean, this is kind of what we wanted to see, right? Like how they,
Starting point is 00:07:24 people in a big city, how they would adapt to survive. And the blinding to roof and improvised weapons is cool. They have to, right. And Croats got his people out on the streets. I like the, you know, the, uh, the, uh, the law man Armstrong gets caught in the trap that we knew were out there, right? Because Maggie and Negan stopped short of one of those traps. And, you know, you know that if it, when you go out and check the traps on your, on your detail, if the walkers are underneath it, it's a live person. If there's no walkers around it, then it's just a walker in there, right?
Starting point is 00:08:02 Right. It's kind of a cool, kind of a cool thing. And I actually, at first my reaction to, the Croats people. I kind of rolled my eyes when they'd run in. I know. I know. But then when I saw that they had all those like, was I like. Of their helmets.
Starting point is 00:08:19 Yeah, those like. The blades on their helmets. Yeah, the saw blades. I was like, I kind of stopped. And I was like, well, this is, it almost feels like an homage to like those 80s. Yeah. Well, more like escape from New York, escape from L.A., like that style. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:36 And I kind of dig it now, I think. Well, that's just their way, right? They've got the motorcycle helmets, Jerry rigged with the blades so that they are, feel safer. They don't get bit. They can come up close and, you know, kill the head butt the walker and kill them if they have to. I was, I was, I'm kind of with you on the, just running into the room after the New Yorkers and stuff, but they're pretty cocky now, right?
Starting point is 00:09:03 They really haven't had any real push against them, right? Croats in charge, they run the city. The small groups, like these little New Yorkers, they've been on the run, hiding, trying to stay away from them so they don't get under the rule of Croat. And there's a small group, right? So they're used to just going in wherever they want to go and not have to worry about it. And now, and now Negan's like, what are you doing with your hair? What's going on with that?
Starting point is 00:09:34 Why don't you tuck that shit back in there, man? You got a net beard and around? too. Really good. Really funny. I loved when they were in the bathroom and Niga was explaining the backstory of how him and Kroat met and then him explaining how he had, they had met somebody trapped in a car. And he gave a director to let her walk. He didn't.
Starting point is 00:09:59 He didn't let her walk. That's how he knew. Like, this guy's a rabid dog. Yeah. He did not follow orders. And during the whole time, I'm seeing Nigan. his hand up against the wall like what the heck is he doing and he's sharpening
Starting point is 00:10:12 the pigeon bone that was already a couple of steps ahead that was awesome I really like that a lot Negan's such an interesting character because I guess that's why he's so good and when Maggie was like oh we should have just killed them and he was like no they're resourceful
Starting point is 00:10:27 they're smart we like him and like Negan's always had this one thing people are a resource if he doesn't have to kill you he won't but but that's what I was saying is he don't whether to love him or hate him and actually you love him in certain times and hate him in other times right everything is purposeful you know it's for a reason it's just it's a brutal reason but sure is I mean but it's not unnecessary it's unnecessary I love I
Starting point is 00:10:51 love you know and to to that point you know he when he cuts the guy's neck after he says you know it's because it's gonna it's gonna rain then but the the the the gutting and all the blood and guts from the innards mind me a Spencer that extra cut of like, I will go that extra step, okay? That was nuts. I saw something like that was like, I think it was one of the Rambo movies
Starting point is 00:11:20 where they go to like Burma and he just completely opens up his stomach. And then I was like, I can't believe they showed that. Well, they just showed that on the walking day. Yes, they did. And it wasn't a walker. It was a person. Yeah, they remember in like season seven Spencer
Starting point is 00:11:34 when he was playing pool. And then Spencer was trying to get Negan to kill Rick to put him in charge and Negan's like, you're freaking, you're freaking coward. I'm going to kill you. And he guts him. Yeah, I mean, that's he used it before. It's crazy. It was really crazy. I still don't understand the Jenny thing. I'm not real sure I get the purpose of her other than, you know, she lost her family and I guess she wants
Starting point is 00:12:00 to be with Negan now. And she's just going to go to New York and screw things up even worse. if she gets to New York, why she doesn't just stay where she's at? The only thing I can think of is maybe she's gotten a glimpse of that, you're safe next to this guy, you know, because maybe she has seen. Yeah, that's true. Negan go full Negan. And she figures the safest place to be is two steps behind this guy. With this guy, right.
Starting point is 00:12:28 I don't know. That's possible. That's possible because being in the group that they were centered to is all studies. And we're going to learn how to garden, and then we'll go out and we'll do this. And she's like, that's not what I saw out there. This is not my world. Well, she, on the little sneak peek preview, she shows up to that same, you know, embankment that day.
Starting point is 00:12:55 Right. She makes it. Yeah, I know. I know. I'm good for her, you know, good for her. I just am not quite sure. And maybe she's Negan's kid. We just don't know that.
Starting point is 00:13:08 I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. Also, yeah, no, I don't think she's Negan's kid because we still have no clue what actually happened to, to Ann and his kid. We don't know what happened. Yeah, like, what the hell? I don't remember where that ended. No, no, Maggie asked about that last episode.
Starting point is 00:13:28 She asked like, where's Anne on your kid? And he didn't say anything. And did it hit anything on the last episode? Of Walking Dead? I know. They were just off with the train people or something, right? I don't even remember. I don't remember.
Starting point is 00:13:45 I know. I don't either. Sure. Plus, speaking of apologies, because I've headed in my head for a week that I needed to apologize to our audience, I should have looked it up during the show, and I'm sorry. But last week when the bar owner died, and I was really bummed that she died because I loved her. character and she's a great actress and she's been in a lot of shows and stuff. Well, also, she's married to our boy.
Starting point is 00:14:14 You know, Max's guy, John Dory in real life. No, that's crazy. Yeah, what's his, what's his Garrett Dillahan, right? And who plays John Dorey or played. And I guess that I'm even more bummed that they got rid of her. So, I mean, she's, she's not a lot of things. She's not a low-end actress, so that's... Right.
Starting point is 00:14:38 It's kind of interesting she would just do a cameo. That's kind of cool, though, just for the people that are associated. Right. You just like, hey, can I be in an episode? Sure. All right, I've been trying to get in. Then you killed my husband off, so why don't you just let me in one of the episode? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:53 It was really funny. Oh, yeah, and then we had Armstrong searching through his old apartment and seeing what I assumed to be his brother just had committed dead. But... Yeah, you know... Speaking of that, I know we're supposed to... We've gone beyond belief of the real world, some in our walking dead. People are rising from the dead, of course. In our walking dead world.
Starting point is 00:15:15 But, okay, so bro kills himself. He's not bloated. He's not eaten, been eaten by bugs. There's no flies flying around. I mean, that means that he's been alive. He just killed himself. And they made it seem like he hadn't. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:15:34 It was just really weird. he makes it all the way to the apartment. There's walkers. And then, of course, when he goes to leave, there's walkers trying to get in. I just, I felt that was kind of forced on me. But he got out, and that's when he got into the trap, obviously. So now Croat has him. And he's safe with Croat.
Starting point is 00:15:54 You're safe with me. I do not understand the reason for the Marshall. The law man. And now since they just delivered him right to Croat, I'm assuming the only reason is so the Croat knows exactly who he's dealing with. Oh, he's dealing with Negan. Because otherwise he wouldn't know. So now he knows because the marshal's going to say, oh, I'm a marshal from New Babylon.
Starting point is 00:16:18 I'm looking for this guy named Negan ever heard of him. And so now he just knows he's in the city. But that's a whole lot of work. But Chiris, since Negan already, that's why he did his scene with his people to let Croat know he was there. You know what I mean? that's why he did that. That's why he became Nagan again so that he would let Kroat know, I'm here. But none of those people know who Negan is. No, but when the story gets told, there's only one guy that would do that.
Starting point is 00:16:48 Right. I mean. Maybe. Well, I think now it just, so the Kroh will hear the story of what happened. He's going to hear from the marshal that Negan is in town. Now it's affirmation. He's like, okay, he's still the same old And he's here in New York City. Right. But you see what I'm saying? Like that's a whole lot of wrangling just to make that. Yeah, I do agree with that one.
Starting point is 00:17:10 Just to let Croat know. Right. Yeah. You could have just had the Croat there during that scene to see Negan do that. I think that would have been better. And it would have accomplished everything. And we could have eliminated the secondary plot, which is. Or even just show up when it was over.
Starting point is 00:17:26 Right. You know, just walk in the building and have Negan standing there. They could have been, you're right. It would have been better for them to just be eyeball to eyeball in that building. So much better. That'd have been so much. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:38 And even to have like a little fear in the Croats eyes like, oh crap. You know. Right. Now I'm going to have to deal with this guy. There's somebody that actually could go up against me. Yeah. Right. He's already, I mean, he's the king now.
Starting point is 00:17:52 I mean, he's got his own fuel. He's got his patrols. He's running the city. Yeah, that would have been a much better play to have him. it would be his people would be the first time that would have seen him with that look on his face of oh crap it's so good yes it's see and sometimes the walking dead steps on their foot you know like they do too much of things you don't care about like i don't care about this marshal's brother backstory i don't care like so yeah you know like just wasting time the new land of what's it called new babylon yeah new babylon and uh
Starting point is 00:18:27 and so okay you don't really we don't care about we don't know anything about new babylon we don't care about new babylon and you're a marshal from there okay great you killed off a character that we liked already yeah problem i know i really but i did overall uh fantastic i love the episode i'm happy we're back to there were some great walker deaths uh some great walkers some great scenes um i'm i've almost had enough of maggie being maggie that's time for her Really? Yes.
Starting point is 00:19:01 I'm about done with her. Why? I mean, it might have to be an accidental off, push off for some building. That isn't going to happen, you know? I know.
Starting point is 00:19:13 But it'd be a real shame if Crowat had to torture her for a little while. Boy, I wouldn't want that at all. Anyway, it's just, because that's what could happen, right? Crowack gets her.
Starting point is 00:19:24 Oh, there we go. So Croat gets her. That's how Nigan saves her and the kid. And the kid then stays with Negan. The end. Roll credits. Maggie get out. Why are you so stuck on this? Because I want Maggie gone.
Starting point is 00:19:38 Tired of her. I're gone. A nice day. Hey, before we wind this down, there was what question I wanted to ask you guys. So when the Croats guy killed that lady, what the heck was he saying under his breath? It was some kind of German, I thought. It was. Has anyone translated?
Starting point is 00:19:56 Because Croat talked that way, too, just before the trap, right? I think he was, I think he's been teaching his, his followers, like some of his native language. Is it his native language or is it their own language? I think it's his native. I think he's like, part German, because the actor is, I believe, is German, but I could be wrong. You know, I mean, he's a some kind of scientist, so we're just saying, okay, well, he's a German scientist. You know, I get that. But I don't know if what, what they were, what was being said, no.
Starting point is 00:20:28 if it was just, you know, I love you guys too. Why don't you go get the guy out of the trap? Which I doubt very much. All right. So we have like four episodes left. I know you're searching for that, Jason. So I'm going to stretch a little bit because I want to know as well. We have four, three episodes left, right?
Starting point is 00:20:48 This was, no, next week is episode three. People are a resource, which is what Negan, you know, always says. So then we have, so four episodes left in this. first season of Dead City. And if it continues on the track that it's on already, I mean, there's definitely going to be season two. I mean, there's just has to be. And so I'm really looking forward to that with everybody wins a prize,
Starting point is 00:21:16 stories we tell ourselves, and Domesma. So did you find the translation? I don't think anyone's translated yet, which is really weird. He's not German. He's Slovenian. Okay, Eastern Blanc. I'll find that If any of the listeners Have found that first
Starting point is 00:21:34 Reply like in Twitter or something like that What that was? Yeah, reply on Twitter or email Chewing the Fat At The Blaze.com It's got to be an Easter egg. It sounds like what the translation is. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:43 It has to be. You're right. I did I thought about that The first time I thought he was just babbling because he was injured The guy who killed the old lady But then
Starting point is 00:21:55 I should have picked up on it when Croat was babbling his gunk there at the trap when they got the law man. Because then when he went to the lawman, he spoke English. You're safe now. He didn't speak. He didn't speak the foreign language. It caught my attention because it almost sounded like a, I don't know, like a cult, you know, like a religious thing or something.
Starting point is 00:22:19 Yeah. I was like, what? And I'm sure that's, you know, one of the ways he keeps everybody in line, right? If you're on the inside with him, he speaks to you. his language and you better understand it. Yeah. Yeah. That could be cool. Anyway, I was very happy with the episode.
Starting point is 00:22:33 It was a good episode. Really good episode. We know now that the lawman is just a way to get to Crow at and we could have done it better. I wish they'd let us know and give us a call. Now we have the new Daryl episode shows in filming and we've seen reports that Carol was on set in France while they were shooting. or France or Spain or wherever they shoot in the show. And so there were reports that she was going to be in the show. Now, then I find because she said she wasn't going to be on this show.
Starting point is 00:23:07 She didn't want to go to Europe. I don't know if she's wanted in Europe. I can understand not going to places. I don't think she wanted to live in Europe for months on end. Whatever. And so now she's been seen on set. But I was reading about it. And apparently they're shooting flashback scenes before.
Starting point is 00:23:27 or Daryl floats on a log to Europe across the ocean. I really want to know how he gets there. They better explain that. I'm kind of glad I think Carol doesn't have a big presence in this show because Carol was such a badass character, but they made her so annoying, especially as it pertained to her relationship with Daryl. It was just so annoying.
Starting point is 00:23:50 But it's a tragedy because she was such a badass character. So if you put the two together, it's disgusting. They kept the badassery with her, like, throughout it, but... Not around Daryl. Yeah, I don't know. Not with her going crazy and going off on her own, and it was just annoying. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:24:12 I mean, and that's kind of what they did in Egan, too, right? I mean, if they were going to keep him around, they should not have whisked him up. And they did, and obviously, you know, even Jeffrey was listening to us and knew that his character was. was whist out and complained about it and was annoyed by it. But he obviously lost. You know, he just did they didn't fight that battle hard enough to the showrunners because they continued to make it that way. Anyway, it's just it's good to have it back. Yeah. It's good to have it back. No question. All right. So I'm looking forward for sure to the next. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season. No question.
Starting point is 00:24:56 I'm looking forward to see where they take it. I hope they don't stretch it too far out of bounds with the lawman. That's where I'm there. Well, for the past, okay, so two episodes and every single episode, I have had at least one scene, which I thought was just completely badass. And I can't say that for any of the past shows or Walking Dead show for a while. But, I mean, for me, it was episode one was there sneaking into like the downtown area and the walkers are falling out of the buildings. That was amazing.
Starting point is 00:25:26 And then this one was obviously the knock scene. But I mean, still, I mean, just those two scenes right there were enough for me to say this was a cool episode and worthy of watching it in the future. Yeah. Definitely. I definitely agree with both of you. This was a great episode. I can't wait to see what they do with the future. And yeah, I can't wait. All right.
Starting point is 00:25:47 Thank you for listening to Talking Walking Dead Dead. Dead City Edition. We'll see you right here. Same bat channel. Same bat channel. You know where you're at. All right. Thanks for listening.
