This is Talking Walking Dead. Welcome to it. Jason Buttrill, Maximus Fisher, myself, Jeff Fisher. This is Talking Walking Dead. I think I already said that. Episode 5, one more episode remaining in this first season. Very bummed about that. Very bummed about that. This last episode was, well, another episode of enjoyment for me. I really enjoyed it. There was some stuff. Obviously, we'll cover all the details inside. the episode. But overall,

I definitely enjoyed the heck out of it. A lot of questions answered and a few more new questions. Yeah. Yep. Yeah. But yeah, I was shocked we got some of the answers that we actually did. That was nuts.

The, you know, in the beginning, we found out that, you know, during the show, we had the flashbacks, right? So we get Daryl the flashbacks and we find out exactly how he ended up on the ship. That shocked me. going that was coming to France.

I wasn't expecting that. I mean, you know how expensive now? Again, they spent a lot of money on this. Oh, yeah. On these episodes, because the flashbacks are cost of fortune. I don't know. As a filmmaker. Yes.

You, Jason, I know it's just a writer. You would know better. I mean, those, I've talked to actual filmmakers. I obviously have not won. But I've talked to a lot of filmmakers. and where the money gets dumped is the flashback scenes. So when you see movies that don't have flashback scenes, they didn't have any money. And the scale of the scenes.

Yeah. I guarantee you they filmed all those flashbacks first in the States before they went over to France. That's possible. I mean, we don't necessarily know that they were in the States for that scene. I mean, they make us believe that he's there, right? He's in Maine. We found out that's where he was. uh in main but i mean just because they say that here's a thing it doesn't have to be true in real life

anyway uh but it was fascinating how he ended up we had the the french doctor right the scientist guy and they were out getting walkers for experiments um you know darrell find out you know his heart breaks for this young kid that's out there not knowing what he's doing yeah and then you know he gets into the fight obviously because they killed him. The other, the other bikers. Reminded me of a little,

you know, biker gang going on at the old mechanic shop. I'm out there hunting for, you're well aware of those people, Mr. Pussel. But, you know,

the flashbacks were great, right? And then before we get, we'll just stick with the flashback scenes. So in the flashback scenes, before he gets angry, he hops on the radio. And,

he talks to Carol. So when he first, when he first talking to her, I'm thinking, who is that? And then he says Carol. Okay, cool.

Am I the only one who immediately recognized Melissa McBride's voice and knew was Carol instantly? The only one on this podcast. I guess so, yeah, no idea.

Yes. Even at the end, when he said Carol, I was like, it's like, wow, they hired some actress to mimic her voice

because I didn't sound all. No. I only found out about that this morning. I was like, what? That was her? That was Melissa McConnor.

I immediately recognized her voice. Okay. Didn't sound like her. All right. When they first started talking about, I'm like, who is he talking to? And it was, you know, then obviously he says Carol, but. Are they bringing her onto the show? I don't think so.

I think that's the only way that she's on. Because Jeffrey Dean Morgan snapped a photo of the two of them together. It looked like on a set. Maybe that's next episode? No, I don't think. She may be in a flashback. or something, but I don't think so because she

didn't want to go to Europe. I don't know if she's legally allowed to go to Europe. They never said. They just said she didn't want to work there. Okay. All right. Well, I got it. All right. Well, I don't know, but have they already started filming the next season? No, I don't think so. No. Okay.

Because there was an interview with one of the creators talking about where they're taking Carol's character and what she said, you know, how it cut off and it said something he's back yeah he came back darrell i want to let you know he came back yeah okay so who are we talking about coming back are we supposed to believe that's rick are we supposed to believe that's uh what's his face from fear morgan could be either yeah i'm i don't know who they who they're leading us to believe i would like to believe that it's rick got to

Rick, yeah. I would like to believe that that's how we get Carol back, right? Is that she's either in the Rick and Michone show with him coming back and then going off with Michone. Or she's more, she's in another flashback scene this last episode of Daryl Dixon. So I've said this before. I think with the ones, those who live now that we actually know the name of the Rick and Moshone show, I think Morgan and Mo will definitely be a part of it. They set that up perfectly with the last episode of them in fear.

Oh, yeah. So Morgan, Morgan is, I'm betting 95% will be a part of the Rick and Moshone show. Good. I'm glad. He's the only one that needs to survive here. Everyone else needs to die. In a giant fire and actually die. We're not Strand.

We all like Strand and Daniel. in a giant fire and actually die. It's got to be worse than that. It's got like Star Wars. They need to be slowly digested in the Sarlack pit. That's what that's why. And throw in the world beyond characters and all of them. One big Sarlack soup.

And I'm okay with Daniel surviving that as he just sits there with his brain as mud. That's fine. That's fine. He's just not part of the thing. Don't kill him. He could just be there with brain mud. I'm fine with that. But I would love, I mean,

I obviously wanted to believe to be Rick. You know, I mean, we, but I just don't think it is. I think we've been sold the bill of goods on that whole thing. So, I don't know. Well, I know they have plans of Carol. I believe I got canceled on this very episode last week by saying such heresy. Yes, yes, you did. Yes, you did.

I'll just say, I believe we've all been had, just a tad of it. Okay, what about the show then that's coming out next year? Yeah, okay. Yeah, we'll see. Well, see. Now, we have, with news now, a quick break from, well, from the actual episode. AMC released that the Daryl Dixon episodes are through the roof ratings-wise for AMC Plus. It's like the most watched show. So, I mean, even more than Dead City. So they are, you know, extremely ecstatic over the Daryl Dixon show.

Like, I bet Dead City put in a lot of good faith because how good Dead City was. And then... Yes, that's what they said. and then Daryl Dixon being even better than Dead City where Dead City was still really good. Yeah. What's crazy is Darrell Dixon has just done so much better than Dead City.

The cinematography, the story, everything is so much better. So like if I'm, I like Dead City because I like the Negan character and it's just familiar. But I don't think it was cool being in the city. And it was cool being in the city. You're right. But I mean, but if I'm a new viewer, I'm not, I'm not jumping on board the franchise. because of Dead City.

If I am a new viewer and I watch Daryl Dixon, I'm jumping on board because it's just done so well. Yeah, that's true. Yeah, yeah, that's true. It's making new fans. Yeah, and anybody that gave Dead City a shot and thought, oh, that wasn't too bad. Then moving on to Daryl Dixon, you're in.

I mean, you're in after that, no question. Really good. So, I mean, Daryl is just the guy now. I mean, that they'll give him the money. They'll back the truck, the money truck up, and he'll just make great episodes, we hope. I'm really bummed that it's only six episodes. Me too. But, you know, that's the way it goes.

I got it. So we have that to look forward to in this final episode next week called Coming Home, I believe, is the title of the final episode. Yeah, coming home is the final episode. And then we can move on to fear, which I'm not going to move on to at all. at all. So it was, I did love in the flashback scene where they were catching the walkers, though.

And Darrell comes back with his row and the other bikers are like, look at this guy. Yeah. That was great. Show off. Okay, this guy. What was there,

did they give an explanation for why they were doing this? I just thought it was weird that Darrell's like, I'll help out. Fuel. They were giving them fuel. No, I know he was doing it for fuel.

I don't think we ever did get an explanation of why they were rounding up the walkers that they were just told that's what they're doing. Obviously for the new French government. So we knew, like we all knew why, but Darrell, I would assume. Yeah, they did not. Yeah. I don't think Darrell cared. He was like, look, you're giving me fuel. I don't care.

Right. But that is kind of strange that we just never, you know, when we just assumed that he was told right from the, when he said, you know, when he called everybody in and told them the rules. and then we never did hear, okay, what we're doing is you guys are going to go out and round up walkers every day. And I want them alive. And I don't want to kill them. I want them alive. So good luck. God bless.

Get out of here. I mean, no one, no one said, why? Why are we just killing them? What are we doing? You know that, you know, no elderly, no kids. If I get bit, if I get bit, I die, right? you know that why am i doing that really strange yeah no shorties no shorties we're not have any shorties which i'm completely agree with uh i know i'm sorry okay we won't have any

short shaming or height disadvantage shaming i got it um it was really that but yeah they had specific uh specific rules on what type of walkers they wanted and we never did get a a a why you know i mean i would have been okay with the french guy or his do boy they're saying because i said so we're rounding it up for a project something but we never did get that yeah and they it was so crazy when they reveal you know like what they're doing to even the live people on the ship oh yeah how much like how much different they were from like because they like the the main dude that was the black guy that was you know coordinating yeah the dude boy yeah the head guy. He was so nice and like

it seemed like he had morals, you know, he's like no fighting, you know, all this stuff, but they're all evil bastard. No, I assume. I assume here's the thing. Look, if you don't break the rules, we'll be perfectly nice with you. You break the rules, you're getting on the ship. Crazy. Yeah, the ship was crazy. Crazy. The ship was crazy.

I mean, we already knew that Daryl escaped. So we knew that from the previous episode. But seeing it was awesome. And seeing it was awesome. And the feeding of the walkers and keeping them alive. and working on them was that's something. So what that reminded me of is like going to a haunted house. You know, that one that's like really well done,

he's got real good production. Oh, yeah. And I was like, this is like, there must be what that felt like for them walking through a haunted house only gets a real. Yeah. Stroblights going everywhere, like the scientific experiments going on on the walkers.

No kidding. I mean, it was definitely a ship of horrors, man. And then we finally, then we see him get all, like grab the dingy and then like the other guy died. Whoa, whoa. He grabbed the one.

Yeah, whoa. That's what they're called. It's a family show, Max. That's what they're called. And while he was playing with the dingy, and the next thing, it was just down. Nothing. And so, you know,

once that happens, what are you going to do? Really? Nice. Pictures. Good gosh. I mean, it happens faster than it's over. That's what happens. I don't know.

But we did see that, We did get a variant on the ship, right? The other variant walkers. So that's what, you know, Daryl has seen that now. I mean, we know, like, he's seen the burning walkers and he's seen the running strong walkers. The walkers that can open the doors. Yeah. And he's seen the running strong fast walkers now.

So he does have that in his mind that they are out there. He just doesn't, you know, he just doesn't have it had to deal with them. we thought he hasn't had to deal with them but he has and he does he is aware of them so that's what it's so strange is that that obviously at the end of this episode he's in the you know in the coliseum ready to fight the the power walker um that they juice up like well that's what i mean but that's what that's the same walker he had on the ship right so he has seen it it's not new okay so he's aware of of what they can do and how they move this is the real question now i know we're skip him to the end of the episode where they

show them, the show juiced up. Is this a variant walker that they found, which is the Running Strong Walker, which we've seen turn before where they act like this, and they created a super serum for that type of walker, or is this a walker that was created by them?

Wait, have we... I don't think we've seen them. And it will be on. Yeah, at the end. That one animated like that, which is, I think Max is poking around a really good point because there's a lot of, I was reading a lot of media reporting on this. And they're all just taking the super soldier route, which is interesting and kind of a cool idea. Like, you know, they're weaponizing these things and turning them into variants.

Right. But as Max said, there was a natural variant plus the variants in the United States. They're smarter and climb and do all that stuff. Right, right, right. So I'm kind of confused. I don't know if that's a plot hole. No, I don't think it's a plot hole. I think they made a super soldier serum for these types of walkers.

Which is why they were looking for specific walkers to bring back to test. No shorties, no females, no old folks. They want middle-aged or, you know, young males. I think they kind of did, right? No, they said no one under five to, no elderly, no children. well I mean most women are under five too so there you go you're sorry Jesus

I don't know it's it's weird but the super soldier idea is really freaking cool super soldiers zombies nuts yeah it is fascinating jumping back from Darrell being in the Coliseum ready to fight the super soldier

walker and yeah the boat was fantastic. It was great. I was very happy to see the action that took place there. I mean, we all knew that how we knew that Daryl escaped from there. So it was just a matter of seeing how he actually did escape from that. I met the boat on the river. Okay, so then we're on that boat. All right. And, you know, Laurent and the ship captain and Daryl. And Daryl's like, you know, how long we got to go? Oh, a couple hundred kilometers. First of mine, I, I want, I wanted Daryl to say no in real measurements. Yeah.

He didn't say anything. He just didn't say anything. I love that line, in American. Yeah, you know, the country that matters. Okay. But one of only three countries that used the imperial system. Yeah, like I said. And the only one that stood on the moon.

Thank you very much. Oh. Did we? Okay. No, no. No, that's another show. Sorry. never mind i believe that we did by the way and i believe that the moon is ours and the other countries

need to back on down okay right about that the moon is ours facts you can get on there if you want and walk around but no it's ours it doesn't belong to the world sorry no anyway uh i digress uh so uh they're cruising down the bow that was you know lorantta's praying and then they get to there, I guess they call it, they called it the nest. Yeah, they they need to, they need to go to the nest. They said that in the episode before this one and. So that's the place, but the nest

isn't where is it their destination. That's just where they're, they stopped. No, the nest is their destination. Yeah. Okay, so the place that they stopped was just their camping. Yeah, it was just a pit stop. Yeah, okay. All right. All right, fine. A big surprise, of course, that, you know, the Muslim is helping the Christians. We still have, still, we have, we have to love the Muslims.

We can't hate Muslims and Muslims still help us. And it's all the wonderful thing. I got it. I loved his character, though. He was actually sad that he died. Yeah, he's the worst bodyguard at night ever. I know. I have all this training and like one zombie comes up and he's like, what are we doing?

Who put you out here in charge? Like what? He seems like a really cool dude that he's like, the telephone pole got me. Yeah, but I mean, even before that, right? He's supposed to, they put the cans up, right? Or at least we assume they did because they, they, they, he handed them to Daryl. So they put the cans up to hear the walkers, which I guess, you know, the walkers jumped over or something because we never heard the cans. And then Daryl comes out and there's like three or four other walkers dead and he's leaned up against the telephone pole trying, you know, almost dead, say, oh, it's such a humor.

My dad worked for the phone company. Yeah, okay. got it. I was just really really the worst. Be right. He was just the worst. I don't understand how that. He was the participation trophy bodyguard. Yeah, I know. Oh, how sweet. You know, you could be a bodyguard.

His main purpose was the watch. I know. I liked this character, though. I'm sad that he died. I just thought he was a cool guy. And then in the morning, obviously, before that, we had we had Daryl teach him how to gut a fish. Yeah, the kid, you know, he doesn't want to kill the fish. well tough we got to eat okay that's what we're having so he lived in and he's talking his whole life basically we're eating the fish okay that's what we're doing

you're not talking about of that and then the morning comes when after the after the killing of the the ship's captain and of course the the pocket watch and it's all a wonderful thing with the matter and we go to the shore and home boy cut the rope on the boat I mean Darrell should have just killed him right there. Special kid or not? What are you doing? Laurent's just annoying. Like, the way he talks, everything.

He's just annoying. I actually like Laurent. I'm like sneaking out the window and going home. I know he's the chosen one and he's the special one. You know, Darrell, I think, is starting to decide on that. He's Darrell is starting to side on that. Okay, he's a special. Okay, the thing is Jason, Darrell, as we've seen throughout something that's been constant

with his character since season one of the Walking Dead, he has always had a soft spot for kids. He will never let a kid die under his watch. And that's how utterly annoying this kid is. That would be the one exception. All right, buddy. I'm not

I'm not stepping in front of that arrow. Like, you're taking it full chest on. Do you pray? No, but I'm going to start after I kill you. Jesus. Because what are you doing? By the way, I'm just saying, I thought that was joking around aside. I thought that was a wonderfully acted scene.

Darrell getting pissed off. And then him calming down, realizing, oh, crap, I actually care about this kid. Yeah, and his apology and realizing that he, you know, when the kid said he didn't want to be alone and he wanted to be with Darrell. I thought the acting in that scene was amazing. It was fine. Norman Rees did a great job and the kid that plays

Laurent. Yes, it was great. Now, and then, of course, they get, you know, they get caught. And we're back to, what's her name, Jeanette? and we're going to have the show with getting rid of the boyfriend and he brought Isabella in, the nun in, and the nun, I'm not sure I quite understand Isabella and her reasoning and thinking,

because she was going to kill the boyfriend. Doesn't. It was to kill herself. Then she was going to kill herself again. I didn't. So maybe the nun stuff held, because I don't know if we, you know this or not,

But that's a giant sin. You're never making it to happen. As just a practicing Catholic, let alone a nun or a priest. You don't commit suicide. You just don't. Yeah, that kind of annoyed me because that's one of their big themes across the entire franchise is moral dilemma, you know, in this world. And it's like they try to force it in, like, all the time now. Yeah.

It's good if it's natural if it makes complete sense. but that was just kind of like, I was like, okay, we got it. She's conflicted. Like, okay. Plus, she already tried it cutting across the wrists. She knows that doesn't work. That's the same way she was doing it again. No, you cut lengthwise.

If you want to, if you're going to do it, you cut lengthwise. You don't even know how to commit suicide. What are we even doing? Jesus. That's a good point. Talk about incompetence. I was like, what does she do? She knows that.

that way it doesn't work. One thing that's interesting, we finally know with them. This episode should have been called incompetent. Instead of two laws. But one thing that's interesting as we go on to like them,

them going to the, like the head military girls thing is we find out, oh, they're trying to make their own French government. Oh yeah, she's taken over. Like,

like, like they had the French flag, they had the flags of France and all that. And I'm like, Oh, so now we know what they're doing. Yeah, she's definitely taken over. Like, we, they want, they want, we are France. Yeah, she's definitely taking over and she wants the power.

And zombie super soldiers. Right. Right. And she can't have the boy. She needs the boy to be on her side yet, not out in the open, right? Because she can't kill him now. Because he was going to say some word. Well, she can't make him a martyr.

No way. The people will be too wound up. He's valuable. Yeah, he's very valuable. So we know that the Union of Hope people are here at the Coliseum, right? We saw them going in. Because remember the maid, the do-girl, the servant left Isabella a note. She said, I know you're, when she said, I know you're his friend. And she's like, how do you know, why do you think that?

I don't know, I'm just a, I'm like a slave here working for this guy, okay? And so she left her a note. So the note had to be from the Union of Hope people. Yeah, that one, yeah. So she, and she sees him, she sees our Union of Hope guy in the line as they're walking into the building that turns into where the Coliseum is, where Daryl is going to face the suit. Where they, where the girl has the big speech with the flag behind her. Yeah, that was awesome. And she's got everything covered, right?

She's got the boyfriend who lied to her. She's got the girlfriend there, although the girlfriend really didn't do too much wrong. She's still valuable. Plus, the kid will do what she says. So she can kill the boyfriend and keep her and the kid alive and kill Daryl and still have control. That's what she's thinking. That's what she's thinking. So it's kind of, it's interesting that that, and so it'll be interesting to see how he actually gets out of there.

We obviously know he's going. to hello darrell dixon but it will be interesting to see the fight with the super walker and how he gets out yeah the the fight with the union of hope people inside the coliseum with the other soldiers that'll be it'll be fun i was so pissed when it went to black there i was like no it was a good cliffhanger it was a really good cliff i know i was ready for the fight too really bad really wanted the fight bad i'm looking forward to it and we may not get it Oh, we better get it. I know.

There's no way. They got to show that. Okay. All right. Unless you have inside information. I do not. I will say, though, I'm looking at some of my notes here. A couple of things that we did talk about that.

I really liked a lot that I hadn't seen from Darrell before. On the ship, when he used the rifle strap around the guy's neck and then twisted the rifle to kill him, that's good. move right there. Oh, the guy took his jacket and I like, he's like, he threw like one or two guys in the pit. He didn't throw that guy in the big. He's like, no, I'm killing you and myself to get my jacket back. That was fine. That vest is a hot commodity. It seems like every show someone wants to take it. Like, dude. Gosh. Right. That's a superpower vest right there, my friend. Where is it? Does he still have it? He still has it. He's on it. Well, it was on him. I don't think it was on him when he,

when they, after they arrested him, right? No, it wasn't on him when he got arrest. It wasn't on him when it was on him when they arrested him. It wasn't on him when they put him on the cage. Right. So someone else, another soldier took it. So he's got to, we'll see him hunt down that soldier in the middle of, the middle of the Coliseum.

Has to be a tattoo guy. Like face tattoo guy that wears his brother killed. He might have it. I wouldn't be surprised we see, if we see him wearing the jacket next episode. Yeah, he might be. And Daryl finally realized when, when the guy told him in the,

in the Coliseum. My brother, you die. Yeah, and Darrell's like, I didn't kill your brother. He's thinking to him. So what are we talking about here? I didn't do that. But, you know, whatever, it was fascinating.

Anyway, really enjoyed the episode. I don't know. Did we, is there anything else what we need to cover? Because I am really looking forward to episode six for sure. There was, we learned a lot in this episode. We may or may not have a Rick talk about or a Morgan talk about. Well, that's about it. We all hope that it's Rick.

Probably not. And I'm fascinated to see the actual thinking of what scientific plans they have for the Walker. Me too. We may not get that this season, though. I wouldn't be surprised if they save that for season two. They might give us a good chunk of hints, but not answers next episode. Yeah. Although when they were making this, the idea was,

one season. So we hopefully will get some answers. And then season two will be like we talked about last week. Daryl, you're going to be shooting your ride show in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Okay, well, that's where Daryl Dixon is going. He's going.

He wakes up. He wakes up on a beach or something. In the jungle. That's Central Africa, man. We're right in the motherland of Africa. No, no, no, better yet, better. Better yet, better yet. Darrell Dixon, season two,

Madagascar. Yeah, it's possible. That's definitely possible. Australia. That's actually, it would be good. I like the Madagascar. Australia. Because he could get there from a ship, that would be awesome.

All right. So final thoughts of episode five, Mr. Butchral. Still lots of momentum. I'm loving it. Yeah, it's just, I cannot believe it's the finale. It's, it's, I, the other episodes have been this good. this is probably going to be one badass finale. That's what I'm expecting, hoping.

I hope so too. Maximus. I completely agree. This show has been great. The momentum buildup from half of Tales of the Walking Dead being good, half being bad, Dead City being good, and then this show being great. I genuinely feel this could, like, the Walking Dead's fully back. And unfortunately, we have to deal with the finale of fear soon.

but dude we're not bringing up bad stuff right now let's go out on the high I hope so we do next time because I genuinely have been thoroughly enjoying the show absolutely
