Season one, episode five, The Walking Dead, the Ones who live.
Remember, this is the Rick and Michone story.
The love story between Rick and Michone changed by a world that is constantly changing.
Will they find themselves in a war against the living, or will they discover that they
too are the walking dead?
This episode titled Become, episode description on IMDB, well, there wasn't one.
So it's flashbacks, flounders, and stoners.
This is Talking Walking Dead.
Welcome to it.
Myself, Jeff Fisher, Jason Butcher, and Maximus Fisher.
Thank you for coming along for the ride today here on Talking Walking Dead.
Episode 5, Become.
Okay.
So I enjoyed the episode.
However, it's really,
kind of agonizing the more I look back on it. And I enjoyed it. I went back and listened to Tony Bennett
about eight times. A good life, more like 20. Don't bug me down with facts. And I just, you know,
there were so many things that happened in this episode that I feel like I thought we were beyond.
And I guess we're not. Mr. Buttrill, welcome. Yeah. Thank you. I'm actually right there with you. I think as far as
enjoyment. I've enjoyed this episode probably the most. So I was I was in it the whole time. I was never
really like tuned out. Um, and something weird for a walking dead show is actually looking forward
to the commercials being over so the show would be back on. You know, I was like it was, but, but it kept
on getting. For those of us that subscribe to AMC Plus, so we don't have commercials, but go ahead.
You, oh my gosh, what supporters. Straight supporters. I, I just kept getting interrupted by all the
stupid lovey-dovey crap. I want that to be over with. I'm like, we don't need to pause every five
minutes so they can look at each other and start kissing. We don't, we don't need it. You know,
it's like, oh, you know, they haven't been together for a long time. I mean, it would, I guess it
would happen in real life, but we got it. Part of the show. Yeah. Yeah. We understand. You know,
this is, this is their love story, but we understand. But could you throw a bone to the
non-30-something women out there that are watching this show? Like, just a little bit of a
bone, you know, like, and I don't mean that literally.
We got there's a lot of
bone going on
because I haven't seen each other in years and years.
We got.
Serious business going out.
But I did learn
something very, very, I mean, this is for
the Eagle Scout here, you know,
Maximus, who probably already knew this.
But if you're going to eat ramen
and you're running from someone,
don't leave the rappers on the ground.
Just don't leave rappers everywhere.
I almost called Maximus right up
Is that in the handbook?
They teach that?
I'm sure they don't leave rappers.
No, it's been up the campsite.
Leave no trace.
For that one point, which I'm sure we'll get to it a second,
but that was like, did Scooby-Doo, you know, a company Jadis?
And that way, they just like, Scooby-Doo was like in Shaggy.
We're like, how you figure it out?
It would have worked better at that, by the way, of that point.
If you recall when they were in the truck,
Rick was slamming a sprite, right?
Yeah.
And couldn't burp, which I thought a burp was coming, sadly it didn't.
And second, what would have worked on that, what would have made it better on Janus's hunt
is if he would have thrown the can out the window.
But he didn't.
He put it back in the car.
True.
So they weren't leaving.
They weren't littering.
I noticed that's something.
I thought, okay, well, that doesn't work.
That was so weak.
How she found them was so weak.
I understood what she meant when she saw the truck,
when she meant like, oh, and there was a truck missing.
That made a bit of sense.
Like, okay, she remembered the yellow truck.
But then...
Yeah, because there's no other humans on the planet
that would have taken that truck.
But I guess.
Yeah, it had to be them.
How was she so familiar with that yellow truck?
Is she always going to that community?
I didn't get that part.
She said, right?
She said she was there at one point and remembered all the
stuff in the neighborhood.
And it wasn't the knife.
It wasn't the knife.
Why even show the dive?
I thought for sure that was going to come up.
I thought for sure she was going to say,
and as I was walking through the rubble,
I saw the knife from the apartment.
That was so blatant.
The camera just goes to it.
The only thing missing was a foreboding.
Dumb,
I know.
You know, like, come on.
And we had a bump.
in the beginning of the episode and throughout this episode multiple times,
we had Father Gabriel was back.
Yeah, your boy.
Your boy, we actually discussed you last night,
thinking how happy you see that he was on the episode.
He steals all my girls and you dare to call him my boy.
By the way, in one of those flashback scenes,
we got hot Jadis again, which I was very, very happy about.
Yeah, we did.
And we got a World Beyond clip in her dying scene.
Oh.
He talked about killing her other...
Huck or stuck or whatever her name.
Yeah.
What was her?
Huck.
Stupid name?
Yeah, Huck.
It showed her killing her.
So, I mean, that was a world beyond flashback.
Nice.
See how it all comes full circle.
But no, like, so we had...
It was cool seeing Gabe again, but the first time I saw it, I was like, oh, crap, Jason's
going to be mad.
I will say, I...
Okay.
So, again, I enjoyed it.
I liked the three years ago, the two years ago, the one year ago.
I like that.
I wish, I mean, of course, Walking Dead won't do it, but she should have killed him.
Killing him meant the world to me.
That meant Jadus was Jadus.
And I know that she was struggling with being Ann and not Jadis, but she should have killed him, period, done, over, have a nice day.
And she did.
Yeah, but that would have contradist.
addicted the main show.
Why?
So year two, it said,
Gabe said,
oh, we had a group tear down on walls,
whispers. So year two
was like the end of the whisperer war.
And year,
like when it said one year ago,
that was probably the middle of
Commonwealth, if not
the end, near the end.
Because he's talking about not having any food
and people struggling, yes.
And he even asked her for help.
Yeah.
So we knew that was before Commonwealth.
So meaning when we get to Commonwealth, Gabe survives that.
So that would just contradict the Walking Dead.
Okay.
All right.
Fine.
I thought, I kind of thought, I mean, it was good to see him.
I thought maybe, you know, a flashback, maybe we had, or at least in today's world, we show, what's his face from fear, show up.
Lenny.
Morgan? Yeah.
And see Morgan show up
because he's on the hunt for them too.
Season two. My guess is season two.
We'll see if there is a season two, right?
Do you think Rick dies in this final episode?
I don't think so.
Well, I don't know how they're going to get to everything they have to get to.
I know.
Is it going to be a four-hour episode?
Yeah, I don't.
To get the closure that we want from this character and this show,
I don't see how they can.
can do it unless they just like
unless in the final five minutes they do a
massive you know fast forward
which I think would kind of be cheesy
I don't know they might do it though
they might it's possible I don't think so
I think I think Rick takes a nap
and wakes up 10 years later
yeah
no I think we're getting a season two
okay
okay so let's go back to the episode
now and there were a couple of scenes
that were great we got the old Rick
we had we had old Rick in this which I would
That was awesome.
I will say that as they're, you know, they come across the people fighting with the walkers and the stoners, the stonewalkers, and they save them.
And then they try to rob them.
And, you know, they're bumbling idiots.
And Rick, you know, hey, well, we roll this back and you tell us, thank you.
And, you know, all that was fun.
It was fun to see that.
However, aren't we past having these bumbling groups?
I mean, people who have survived up to now are Rick and Michouds, right?
I mean, they're Niggins.
They're not the bumbling fools out in the middle of nowhere.
The bumbling fools are in the cities or living under, you know, CRM rule or someone else's rule.
They're not, they're not, right, they're not out in the woods.
I don't know.
It just seems like we're past finding the bumbling idiot that can't kill a walker.
but he's been alive for 10 years.
Either way, they're dead.
Because they tried to help Jadis
with catching Rick, and then they get eaten by walkers.
Yeah, and it was fun, and there were some nice battles that happened.
No question.
I question why I care so much about Jadis.
Because I do.
I mean, it was a fascinating episode.
I liked the flashbacks, and I get her, you know,
struggling with being, you know, she,
she wanted to be an artist.
Okay.
They tried hard.
Because we're over her in Junklamp.
Okay.
I got it.
You ought to make your metal pieces in the middle of nowhere.
Wonderful.
But instead,
I've decided to kill everyone that I come in contact with.
But is,
I'd rather see Rick be Rick.
Yeah,
they tried hard to get you to care about Jadis.
I don't think they,
the thing is,
Which is hilarious.
We've had Jadis, and so spoiler alert, even though this is a spoiler podcast.
Jadj just dies.
She gets bitten in the neck and then Rick shoots her.
But she's busy babbling on and on, losing her life about, I'm dying.
She tells Rick about my friends and my, my, my, my, my, dossier.
Okay.
Yeah, was this dossier like.
Rossier.
Stop.
That's like 800 pages.
Is it in a safe?
And we have to like dossier.
Shut up.
I loved how what cracked me up about is they were trying to guess where it might be.
They're like, okay.
You know, we kill Jadis.
And then we don't know which facility it could be in.
It could be like in one part of the country.
Blah, and Jadis is dying.
She's like, yeah, it's in my bedroom.
I was like, where else would you keep your dog?
It's on the kitchen table.
bed, you know, it's in my apartment, it's on the kitchen table, just sitting there.
It says, how will we know it's, which is the dossier?
Well, it says dossier on Alexander.
It's the only thing under my mattress.
No one would ever think to look there.
Okay.
All right.
What I was saying, though, is we've had Jadis since early season eight of the Walking Dead.
We've had Jadis for quite a while.
Oh, no.
I know.
And look, I, you're not going to get me to care about Jadis.
I don't care.
You cared about her for a while, but that was for different reasons.
She was hot in the beginning.
She kind of went south in the later years.
But she is not like, it was funny, they actually spoiled it on the Walking Dead Facebook page.
They had like posts where it said, that's a rap.
And it kept showing, it showed a bunch of pictures of her.
And I was like, okay.
Wow.
Oh, they accidentally spoiled it.
It was four hours before it aired was when they posted that, which I thought was really weird.
Wow.
That was kind of dumb.
But, I mean, yeah, I don't, they spent the entire episode trying to, you know, make her human again.
The make her Anne again and not Jadis.
And I just didn't really care.
I was like, I get what they're doing.
This is the only way that, you know, she's not, you know, they're going to justify how she doesn't give Alexandria away to the CRM.
But I just didn't really care that she died.
If it would have been another character, maybe,
I would have been like, oh, crap, that sucks,
or that was a good death or whatever,
but I was like, ah, who cares?
But it was a good death.
Oh, it was a good death, very much so.
Yeah, I just, I don't know.
I don't know.
I just, I like Jadus.
I just have that whole thing forced.
I mean, I get that was the title of the show,
become.
And she just had to become the Jadis and not Ann.
Ugh.
Okay.
What is the, what were all the episodes together?
Don't they make one sentence?
Years gone by and then.
Oh, probably, yeah.
No, years gone by what we become and the last one is what we.
And this last one was become.
Yeah.
Right.
Yeah.
And this, the last episode, next week's episode is titled, the last time.
Weird sentence for all those titles together.
It's probably what we become the last time.
I don't know.
Someone was trying to get a little extra clever there, I think.
Yeah.
Let's see what you did.
I guess.
As a writer, you must understand this.
Oh, totally.
Yeah, totally.
So, I enjoyed the episode.
I did.
I love seeing a bit of classic Rick.
It was great because he was starting to crack jokes.
Actually, like when he pulled the gun out, he's like, oh, it was cool.
Yeah, it was.
And I will say that I know it's walking dead.
I know, and it's okay
because we've come to expect it.
But them getting away
from Jadis in the little love bird cabin
is even far-fetched for the Walking Dead.
I mean, Jadis'
morning lovebirds.
With the two guns.
They got out of the handcuffs quick.
They were surprised.
They flipped the bed up.
Apparently bullets don't go through.
Lovebirds.
mattresses. I just
you know, the whole thing.
You know, Jada's getting
an axe. She had her outfit
on. She had the
I don't know. I know. I know.
I got it. It's okay.
Come to let that stuff go.
But sometimes
let's make it a little believable.
Shall we? I wasn't, yeah,
I get your saying. I was, I wasn't
I was still enjoying all of it.
It was just, it was fun. I know. I know.
It was funny.
It was funny to me, though, that that was just so out of nowhere that Jadish just shows up.
And the explanation was so dumb.
Like, you know, this was totally rushed because they had to rush it, right?
They just said, like, oh, we don't have time to explain this.
Let's just have her there.
And the only thing, there was the one intern in the writing room and said,
what if they follow packages of ramen?
Maybe they, like, just throwing them out the window?
But not the Sprite camp, but maybe just throwing them out.
And they just followed them.
like Scooby-Doo.
And she remembered there was a yellow truck.
And she remembered there was a yellow truck.
And she remembered the yellow truck.
Yeah, missing.
Okay.
All right.
Because no one would take the yellow truck.
No other people would be happy to find the truck full of ramen.
Nobody.
I'm sorry,
what were they called the noodle oodles or whatever the hell they were called?
Well,
maybe both Michone and Rick when they were getting questioned by the CRM.
Maybe they both said they like that specific brand of ramen noodle.
Oh, my.
And I totally get it.
That was a flashback.
They did have those in a previous episode, right?
Those Oodle noodles or whatever.
Yeah, because they're not real, it's not a real brand.
It's been just like a fake brand they've made for the show before.
They have had it before, though, right?
Yeah.
So there's a lot of throwbacks.
I wondered also when they stopped, stop.
Why are we?
It's so stupid.
I'm sorry.
That's one of the most idiotic plot points I've ever seen.
in a show or movie.
It's the dumbest thing.
She's a detective.
She's a detective for the Sierra.
I kept waiting for, like,
her to pull off a mask at the end
and say, I would have gotten away with it
if it wasn't for you two meddling kids.
Those meddling kids.
Whoa.
So I did enjoy the,
when I stopped at the roadside there
enjoy their little oodles of noodles or whatever it was called and they had the Wyoming sign behind them
and then i i see people thinking that whether they in the why in wyoming no that was just a sign at the
park promoting wyoming they weren't in wyoming they're on the east coast i don't understand
what were they shoot it in wyoming no no i think that was just a park sign it was just a park
they're on the east coast that's not they didn't the helicopter didn't take them to wyoming from
Philadelphia. It looked like Yellowstone National Park to me with all the geysers and everything.
I know that, but that's, but they were, they're on the East Coast. Why? It makes no sense for them
to be in Yellowstone. That's exactly what I was thinking the entire time. I was like, how did they
suddenly get in Yellowstone? I just so, I felt like I've driven down one of the roads where they,
they showed them driving. And I was like, I mean, there's plenty of parks on the East Coast in
Pennsylvania and stuff that are beautiful like that. Because they're trying to get from, they're trying to get from
Philly to Virginia.
So, yeah. I know. I know. I thought maybe it was a throw, you know, they showed them sitting in front of a Wyoming sign, which I first thought was just the side of a U-Haul truck, but I guess it was just a billboard. But I thought maybe that was a shout out to the last of us, because that's where they go in the last of us, right is Wyoming. That's where he ends up.
What happened to that show? Oh, that's filming. Don't worry about it. Jason. There was a strike. There's other people going on. Oh, the strike wasn't the issue. The strike wasn't the issue.
I actually have kept up with this.
The Last of Us won't be back until summer of 2025.
Oh my gosh.
We've all forgotten about it now.
I think they're waiting for some of the actors to actually get older because
Last of Us 2 in the games takes place like four or five years after.
That's good because Haller was never heard of anything called makeup.
I were waiting for the
to get older. Okay. Thanks.
I wouldn't want them to put out, I don't know.
Except the guy who's running the show also was in charge of the game.
Still. Still. Okay. So it was interesting that, so we now know that the Reverend is still alive and he's back with his people, right?
Yep. But the thing is, is now, who cares? Because Rick and Mishon are going back.
to get the dossier and have Rick get his special echelon red stripe briefing.
I am curious what this is.
I am too.
They finally piqued my interest on this.
What the hell is in this briefing?
Well, they piqued our interest from it at the beginning when Thorne got it and she said,
you didn't see what I saw during?
And I'm like, what is that briefing?
What?
It better be something amazing.
It better be.
I don't know what.
Maybe they're poisoning the population with oodles, noodles, or something.
I don't know.
It better be something amazing at this point because you've built it up that much.
And they just got done with their big meeting, right?
That's why Jadis was able to get out on her own because she made sure they were all at the meeting.
Right?
Their little gathering of do people under the general or the colonel or whatever his title is.
What's his name?
Beal. Yeah, Beal. Is he a general?
Yes, General Beal.
He's the head of the CRM.
Whatever. He named himself that. He's not a real general.
At the end, when there was that helicopter going towards the smoke, did I miss something right before that?
Was that Michone and Rick?
That was probably their, that was probably like them, like, signaling for one because they knew, they went to the probably in the airspace and signaled.
Okay, so I didn't miss anything before that.
No.
Same things. Okay.
So that wasn't them?
I was confused at that as well.
I didn't know whether it was them flying away, going back to...
No, I think that was a helicopter coming to pick them up.
Because we saw Dingleberry see it go over, right?
The Reverend?
Yeah, but that was when...
But that was when Jadis was dropping herself off, I think.
Okay.
All right.
I just...
It better be good.
I hope that out.
Better be good. I want to see a 100-page dossier.
On how what our jam is.
With highlighted pages, I want it.
Now I'm thinking it's going to be like two.
A few stick figures, like on the back of like minivans, our family.
Have them sitting on a crayon map.
It's going to be one page by dossier.
I want to see what this echelon briefing is.
I want to see what the red.
strike briefing is. I really do.
Yeah, me too.
My dossier.
That's going to be.
That's what it's going to be.
That's what it's going to be.
Maybe it's a little folder or something.
I don't know.
Scrap those.
It'll be like a scratcher.
That's a yes.
She cut out all our memories from the past.
Yes.
A couple snapshots from video, from grainy video feeds of her people.
I don't see it.
Little heart made out of yarn on one page.
My name is Jadis, but I really wanted to be and.
Okay, thank you.
Okay.
Appreciate it.
Jeez.
Oh, man.
I did like, I did like, kind of like the, the stoner walkers.
The stone walkers were pretty good.
I wish, at the beginning, they were difficult to kill.
Then all of a sudden we realized, oh, they're not that.
difficult to kill, we can just kill them. So I was hoping for, you know, I was hoping for the
stoners to be a little bit more difficult than they were. Yeah. I like, I actually kind of like
the teamwork that they had there. Yeah, that was honestly nice. He's like, I'll break you stab.
Yeah, I mean, look, they're, they're, they've actually turned into a fun couple when they're out
battling. Uh, no question. It's the soap opera love affair. Rick proposed. We didn't mention that.
Oh, the end too with the ring.
from the reverend and the proposal.
And, oh, it's right.
I tried to forget that.
Again, we got it.
I do.
We got it.
Yeah, it's gotten so bad, where I half expect, while they're in the middle of a zombie fight.
They're going to, they just stop and kind of like start just making out, you know.
I love you too.
I love you.
Oh, let's see.
I got to admit, when they were in the, when they were in like the little.
Listen, if you were, if you were in a hot and heavy.
business. That would be fun.
And, you know,
wait, kill a walker, get back
to it. That's some fun right there.
Make out, keep slaughtering zombies,
make out some more. I mean, Negan had
some fun with Alpha when she started her mask on, too. Remember
that? Yeah, and then let's not
forget. Remember in that one episode where
Jadis wanted to have sex with Rick
and Michelle. That was hilarious. Maybe that's
in the scrapbook, a bunch of naked pictures of Rick.
That would get kind of awkward.
That'd be hilarious.
Mishon's going to be like, why are these pages
ripped out of the dossier? I can clearly see
there's three pages ripped out.
Don't worry about it.
But
take my
just wear your necklace with an M on it,
would you? Yeah.
I got to say that was actually pretty funny
with the, when they were in that little gift shop
and you see the, like the
named license plates. And,
And I agreed with, like, you don't see Michaud here, do you?
Not once.
Yeah, I never.
Because you don't see Maximus on them at all.
You see, sometimes you see Max, but you never see Maximus.
Yeah, that's true.
Which is why you don't have a license plate.
Okay, so we're looking forward to the finale.
Next week is the finale of Walking Dead, the Ones Who Live, Episode 6.
I am looking forward to it.
I'd like to see how they wrap it up.
I don't know how they're going to do it in an hour.
You know, in 42 minutes or 50 minutes.
This episode was 50-some minutes.
So that's an hour and a half on.
This one might be extended, but I don't know.
Yeah, I mean, they're going to have, there's a lot to get to.
A lot to get to.
Maybe I think there's going to be season two.
What's that?
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I just, I didn't, I wanted one and done season off of this.
I don't, I hate that if that's what they're doing, I hate that they're prolonging.
it stretching it out into a second season.
I'm just,
I'm not a fan.
I want it to be done with.
I think that we're oversaturated right now
with Walking Dead content.
And there's one mega hit
off the show right now
and it's all I care to see at the moment,
which is weird because this has got Rick in it
and I'm more interested in the Darryl show.
I know.
I'm interested too.
And the Darrell show might,
you know,
with this new season,
all about Carol,
may drop your,
God.
You may have to go back and watch season one.
Oh my gosh.
That's another conversation.
That's why I'm looking forward to season two of Dead City, right?
Because we're still in the city and we're badly Negan has taken over.
I feel like,
I feel like we're going to get somewhere with that season.
But you're right.
Now, so, okay, so we've got Rick as the comic books, Maximus.
You're the comic book expert, right?
So we're kind of ground back.
into where we were at in the comic books, kind of.
I mean, he's got no arm.
I mean, he's got a stump.
Yeah, he has no arm.
Which, by the way, don't get me started on how much much my show and enjoying that stump.
Anyway.
Oh, dear Lord.
Don't, don't, don't, don't get me started on that.
His name is Jeffrey Fisher.
His email is.
Two of the Fat at the Blaze.com.
That's just a bad joke.
Sorry.
What is on your head?
history father I don't want to know it's in the dossier though I promise to that in the
dossier so so anyway back we he's got the stump and do we does he dies right well
Rick dies because when so RRM doesn't exist in the comics
Rick dies after he basically liberates Commonwealth and
her
remember her son
like the Commonwealth leader's son
that the a hole
Right right right right
Right he hates
That he doesn't have his privilege anymore
So he sneaks into Rick's room
And kills him like a coward
Right right right right right
But Carl's still alive that too right
Yes
Yeah
So we're so funny
I mean
The comic books
Forget about it
We're done with that
We don't even follow any of that
Which is weird why they ended up
Making him cut his hand off
To fit the comic book
Cause
Probably just a nice reference
Yeah
So what do you think?
Where do you think we're at, Jason,
win this final?
Do we end it?
Is it over?
They have not said it's re-upped,
and they said all along it was one season one and done.
That's what I'm hoping for.
It kind of seems like Max is right,
just on appearance,
because I just don't see how they do it.
And from the preview for the next episode,
it doesn't look like they're going to advance that far.
So I don't know, man.
it. I don't know. I'm kind of leaning towards Max's thinking on this, but I really hope they end it. I really do. I just, I want finality on it. I want it to be done. And I just feel oversaturated right now with Walking Dead content. Me, I'm hopeful it's a good ending to the season. I've always said there's going to be a season two. I've never, I've never thought it was just going to be one and done like they've said because they've said that about almost every other show.
except for World Beyond, which they said would have two seasons.
So I think it's going to have a second season,
but I hope it's a good finale for a season.
I hope that they at least wrap up some things that we've seen,
and I am definitely looking forward to it.
All right.
Thanks for listening to Talking Walking Dead.
We'll be back next week with the wrap-up of season one
of the Walking Dead, the Ones who live.
Same dead time, same dead channel.
And I almost want to end the episode with Tony Bennett, The Good Life.
But we'll see, because I can't get it out of my head.
You thought I was really going to play it, didn't you?
Oh, the good life, for the fun seems to be the ideal.
Can't get it out of my head.
