Starting point is 00:00:00 Season 6, episode 15, titled USS Pennsylvania. This is Talking Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead edition. Today's broadcast brought to you under the threat of lightning, thunder, and rain in DFW, but it still is Talking Walking Dead. Welcome to it, myself, Jeff Fisher, Jason Butchell, and Maximus Fisher, episode description on IMDB, in a race against time to stop Teddy's plan, motives are revealed, and convictions are tested as Morgan and his allies infiltrate and make their way through the beach submarine
Starting point is 00:00:51 that holds the tools for Teddy's destruction. Okay. What would just do? We'll go around the horn here and get first thoughts. Mr. Buttrue? I enjoyed this one. Surprise, surprise. I thought it was fun, really.
Starting point is 00:01:09 There was a lot of things The nitpick in it I tried to turn that side of me off So I could enjoy one of these episodes For a change And I enjoyed it From from get-go to the end I thought it was fun
Starting point is 00:01:21 Maximus I agree with you Jason I thought it was a fun episode Yeah It was one of the better ones This season, definitely Yeah and like the thing That we wanted to happen
Starting point is 00:01:31 At the end Which we'll get to Happened So I thought that was no That was a surprise I know Well yeah I mean we definitely call it
Starting point is 00:01:38 I don't know I guess I, all right, fine. I mean, I guess I enjoyed it all right. How do we always, we're always down the opposite end of the stage. I don't know. I don't know. It was just, you know, they're in a sub and they're busy yapping and talking with each other. They're in such a hurry, but they've got to stop and talk about their feelings.
Starting point is 00:01:59 Okay. Oh, shut up. From the guy that said just like Army of the Dead because it's fun. It's a fun ride. It's a problem with a sub. Don't get me started. I'm going to be started on Army of the Dead. That was a fun ride.
Starting point is 00:02:15 I did, you know, look, some of what we predicted was true, came true last night, right, with the nuke and the sub. I thought that they would send Grace in, but I forgot Morgan was such a wuss and worried about, oh, Grace, you can't. You can't come down here. So it's good that I know that you, Jason, when I was, you know, when I was, you know, when I, back in my military days, you know, I wasn't on a nuclear submarine. But it's amazing how. That's correct. Yes, the island of spice, saving the Western Hemisphere from communism.
Starting point is 00:02:56 Anyway, I was... You good? I came in after you, and I heard about your exploits. I mean, you have to say to it. Military history class, you study it in boot camp. It was insane. Thank you. You're welcome, by the way.
Starting point is 00:03:13 I found it interesting that you could still use a walkie-talkie as long as the hatch was open in the sub. That's all it takes. That's good technology right there. Yeah. Well, remember, she had to go up at least a floor. Oh, that's right. Yeah, she had to go up a level. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:27 That's our security on the sub. Just go up a level. With the hatch open. It was all right. So you can take those little things That's what draws you out of it That's what I I like I remember Brad when we had Brad on the podcast
Starting point is 00:03:44 He would always find these little things And like he got me into that mode And I was like you have to turn that off Yeah I just will not enjoy it One of the best parts of the episode I'm going a little ahead here In my opinion was the Was the scene where
Starting point is 00:03:57 John Dory Sr. Says like do you recognize this voice And like as soon as a teddy figured out who it was you could see like expression and posture change. That was like one of the best scenes where just that little back and forth. Yeah, that was really good. And I found, you know, in the beginning as the group is, you know, as the group is outside the sub and we see Dakota yapping to Teddy,
Starting point is 00:04:24 I was, I had hopes in my mind that perhaps she was going to double cross Teddy. But she's in. Nope. She's in, man. She's full-blown cultist. Yeah. Yeah, she is in the cult. And she's ready for it.
Starting point is 00:04:39 I was with you. I was hoping for more from the plot on that. But just, I mean, it makes me hate her character even more. I know. I know. So pointless. So pointless. I know.
Starting point is 00:04:50 So she kills John. Then goes here with the intent originally, from what she said, to figure out how to beat them. And then she joins them. And almost kills Strand. So dumb. He did kind of deserve. of that shot in the arm. Yeah, and I found it interesting that, you know, again, I'm going back to, you know,
Starting point is 00:05:13 nitpicking a little, but, you know, as we got to the sub, we just, well, just go climb up to the top to the ladder and open the hatch. I mean, Teddy wouldn't have had that taken care of people at all. I just, you know, okay. I was curious, too, like, they just walked up to it, and they're just standing on top. they have time to, like, you know, cut through the hatch. I'm like, there's no, like, this is their main plan. This is, like, the ultimate end for them, and nobody's guarding this up.
Starting point is 00:05:44 Just leave the, just leave the rope ladder on the side. Yeah, and I'm going to lock the top hat. Pull it up for crying out loud. The only ones there, I believe, were Teddy, Riley, and Dakota, because all the rest of his group were was in the bunker with Alicia. and because I think it's just like, look, we truly believe we're going to do what we need to do. And guess what? They did it. Can you spare two guards?
Starting point is 00:06:12 You know what I mean? Maybe. Just to sit up there, smoke some cigarettes with a couple guns and make sure nobody thwarts the plan. Maybe? Maybe. Maybe. Just a thought, no. No, no, never mind.
Starting point is 00:06:26 And then we're going to, and we're, once we're in that. That's when we're going to fight about who's going to go all the way in? Okay. Yeah. That's what I know. And that's what, you're right, Jason. I'm not supposed to do that. Just grab on and enjoy the ride.
Starting point is 00:06:42 So I will. Okay. One of the best scenes, the Radioactive Walker. That was awesome. Yeah, we got it. I did enjoy the Radioactive Walker. And there were some really nice, you know, there were some good Walker kills, some good, you know, Navy, Navy Walker kills. and I found it interesting that we didn't get the chance to even on a flashback see how Morgan got out of it.
Starting point is 00:07:06 He just did. Yeah. You know, Strand kicks him into a pile of walkers and a horde of walkers, a small horde, obviously. But he just does. We've seen Needing. Oh, we've seen. He couldn't. He had to have, what's their face, shoot the walker, the one walker that was on him when he first went into the sub.
Starting point is 00:07:27 with the Dory handgun to the back of the head. He couldn't get rid of that one, but he got rid of the half a dozen other ones? Okay. All right. All right. I belong for the ride. And we see Negan do the same thing? Now, but don't start bogging me down with other facts.
Starting point is 00:07:43 I'm just saying about this particular episode. I know. I'm okay with him getting out of it. I just want to see how he did it. To go back to that Radioactive Walker, though, the Max pointed out, that was so classic zombie horror. It was so freaking awesome. There was like this one part where she's getting back up,
Starting point is 00:08:04 and it's almost like slow-mo. She kind of goes up sideways. Yeah, that was awesome. Yeah. Well done on that. That was so cool. And I actually stood up and, like, you know, and cheered when that happened. It was so cool.
Starting point is 00:08:16 Yeah, you could actually understand why they were fighting about going into that room because that room would have killed whoever went in it. Yeah. And then, of course, you know, I mean, it appears, you know, Morgan wants to die. I mean, he's already prepared himself to die, which... He can't die, his own words. Right. And at that time, with the radioactive walker, that's when, you know, they opened up the one hatch
Starting point is 00:08:42 and all those walkers started coming out. It was almost like a clown car full of walkers coming out of a hatch. It just kept waiting for them to keep coming. So I'm confused on, so I guess he was prepared to die. He wanted to go in because of the radioactive material was so strong, or the radiation was so strong. I don't get it. Did it ever actually get to the point where it's fatal?
Starting point is 00:09:04 No, I don't think so. Because she said anything over 10,000, right? Is that what she said? There's the hatch, and then he put the Geiger counter to the door, and the door was basically kind of leaking off that much radiation from inside the room because there was raw radioactive material in the room. in that hatch. So he thought the only way to get to the weapon control area where Teddy and Riley are
Starting point is 00:09:34 was through that hatch. Right. So that's why he wanted to go through. If he opened that door, that would have flooded him. Right. And so then that's when they went to the side hatch and the ladder that took him up to the second level. And then Strands.
Starting point is 00:09:51 Stranz quote, quoting Strans, his instincts. That was good. Right. right because dude strand just needs to die I am so sick of him
Starting point is 00:10:03 and again we had a great episode with no one dying walkers that's it I mean because he let Teddy go he let Riley go Dakota got knocked out which I don't
Starting point is 00:10:15 quite fully understand I mean how about no how about we kill them yeah why would you let them go I mean no sense I mean and is there's no way
Starting point is 00:10:26 that Dory is going to let him get through to leave the sub, right? No way. That's just not going to happen. Right. I had an old man, Dory, he's not going to let him go. Right. After all that? Yeah. Let him walk out of the sub with Riley? No way. No way.
Starting point is 00:10:46 That's true. They're all still standing up there, I'm assuming. Yeah. Yeah, I don't know. I know. I know. And we've, there's got to be a way. And, you know, again, the submarines that I worked on weren't as modern as this one, so I'm not sure if it handles the same equipment and workable bombs. But there's got to be a way. We've got one nuke that goes off, right?
Starting point is 00:11:14 I mean, we... Well, it said to add ten warheads. Correct. Correct. So one missile goes off with ten warheads. So you'd hope that there's a way to at least... have it dismantle so the warheads don't go off. And that's what's going to happen.
Starting point is 00:11:32 I think they tease that. There is a way to disarm those in flight. And remember they showed it like towards the end? It showed that he, like, so Morgan looked at the key. There was like two buttons. I think the bottom button is probably a disarm button that they're going to figure out, I'm assuming. Which I hope that's not the case. I hope the bombs go off.
Starting point is 00:11:50 I really do. I hope the bombs go off. I hope the main characters get safe somehow. Some, you know, a few other B characters die. But it would be great if the bombs go off. Yes. I love that. I have an idea.
Starting point is 00:12:01 Me too. I have an idea. So they find a way to disarm it, but they can't disarm all of them. They're able to disarm nine out of the ten warheads. One still goes off. That'd be fun. It'd be a good compromise. I really do hope there's more destruction.
Starting point is 00:12:20 But, I mean, you think about the ramifications for that. Like, the consortium must. be able to detect this somehow, you'd think? Yeah. I mean, I don't know. The Commonwealth. Right. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:12:34 I hope they tie that in because you would think that... CRM, yes. The Commonwealth is, I don't think the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth's Boston, so at least I'm thinking, if I'm remembering correctly... Okay, but I mean, you're... Someone has to be aware other than our people in the surrounding 150 miles or 200 miles or wherever. the wherever, you know, wherever they're at. With their technology, yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:00 Yeah. Maybe they'll mention it in World Beyond like five years ago and nuke went off in Texas. But, I mean, if anything, there's a massive fallout that would drift, you would think, to their territory. So, wow. You think they'd have to find out somehow. I don't know. And the reactors would have to be doing the same thing, right? And only the people in that neck of the woods knew about the reactor, not the, you know, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:13:26 You're still worried about the end of the world, right? The Walker disease. So what's a little bit of fallout? So what? Uranium fever. And maybe, you know, I just want, you know what? I think I just want some of these people to die. Right.
Starting point is 00:13:44 I just want some of these people to die. On both sides. Yes, I've had enough of them. I want to see them dead. And if it takes 10 warheads, then by God, let's fire the 10 war. Okay, so before we get on to that, so Strand, let's talk about Strand. So he goes to Morgan after Morgan left and then locks himself in that one hatch with him, and then says, I'm doing this for everybody. Right.
Starting point is 00:14:13 And then they're working. And at the very beginning, he sold Morgan again. You know, at the very beginning he sold Morgan that he was there for, you know, there for the world. and we're doing, you know, we're here for the greater good, and then we're in the sub and we're there for the greater good. Nope. Yeah, which he contradicts that, not 10 minutes after saying that. Right.
Starting point is 00:14:35 Which is in his character. And the fact that he was willing to kill Morgan to do that. I was like, that was just another low. Like, he hits another low every season. I'm like, why is he still alive? Right. Remember, he shot Daniel in the face, so. Yeah, I'm telling him.
Starting point is 00:14:55 I've been telling him. I think the only people he really, like, the only person he would be willing, not be willing to do that too is Alicia. Anybody else's fair game. Maybe. Maybe. I don't know. I feel like Alicia is, you know, she's, he would still do that to her just not right away. You know, he's waiting for other people to die before he kills Alicia.
Starting point is 00:15:19 But remember what Morgan said he's like. You did that to me just so you could tell Alicia when we find or how big of a hero you are. That he's exactly right. Yeah. I don't know. I don't know how Morgan let him live. I really don't. If you throw me into a gang of walkers, I'm killing you the moment I catch back up with you.
Starting point is 00:15:36 Well, however, Strand did the excuse of my instincts were correct. If you didn't kill those walkers to get those cards off, we wouldn't be able to open this hatch. Yeah, that was actually pretty funny. He was talking about his way out of it. See? He's kind of right. But, you know, and it was, you know, it was good that Morgan thought of that while he was almost getting eaten by walkers. Oh, I better grab those cards.
Starting point is 00:16:06 Oh, wait, I'm supposed to grab on for the ride. Never mind. Sorry. I just want to see it. I seriously, I want to back up to that. I wish there would have been some flashback at least of him getting out of there. And hopefully, maybe we get that next week. you know but I don't think I want to we think we've already moved on from it
Starting point is 00:16:25 I mean we broke the you know we broke the staff and the acts right we knew something was coming because the beginning of the show this week was Strand holding Morgan's staff and axe in front of the sub so you know that was the beginning of the show and that's always giving you some hint as to what's going to happen in it yeah you know by the way if I could just go back to those card keys for a second. Morgan should have known that in any crisis situation, if you're standing there with, I don't know, 20 key cards, right, and you pick off the top and you're going to try and use it, again, in a crisis situation, stop.
Starting point is 00:17:05 Take the one on the bottom. It's always going to be the last one. This is a life lesson for everyone to learn. It's always going to be the very last one. Amen. Amen. I mean, I'm thankful that you and your military experts. Jason and was able to give us that, but I'm just going to go on record as saying,
Starting point is 00:17:24 you don't need that expertise to note that. That still didn't save them, though. It got them in there. And again, had you used the Jason Butchral Life lesson, I'll give them credit for it, they would have gotten in there sooner. Yep, stopped it. Yep. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:17:45 It don't matter if it's a key ring or a key card. The final one is the one. So just go, just skip to the end every time. So once you've used that first one, and in fact, you may want to even to stop. Just look at the one that you were going to use first. Stop. Turn it over. Go to the last one.
Starting point is 00:18:02 That's how this works. I don't know what, it's not that hard to figure out, okay? Oh, Dad, how about your favorite scene in the beginning? I forgot to mention this with Grace kept telling Morgan to check the Geiger counter. Oh, there's never ending. What's the reading? What's the reading? What's the reading? What's the meeting? What's a meeting? What's a meeting? I mean, I was just up that thing microphone off.
Starting point is 00:18:26 That was like a little kid asking if we're there yet. I literally took two steps. Will you shut up? I'll tell you what. I've changed my mind. You need to come down here. What's the reading? $70 billion. Get down here now. We need you now.
Starting point is 00:18:45 Maybe. Maybe I'm reading this thing wrong. It looks like 70 billion. I don't know. This thing on? This thing on? Just come down here and show me. Okay, I've had enough. I can't take it.
Starting point is 00:19:01 And a good scene, while it was a pissed off scene because both characters had pissed me off, was the one where Dakota had stranded at gunpoint. Yeah, and, you know, there again, you would think that Dakota would have just killed him if she's in cult mode. She would have just killed him, but she had to yap for a little bit. And then she was going to do it, then Morgan hit her and shot Strand in the arm.
Starting point is 00:19:26 Right. And so, you know, Strand was prepared to die, and Morgan, you know, saved him. But, again, A, Strand should have died, Morgan should have killed him on his own. But, okay, so we say, okay, you're good, you don't kill Strand.
Starting point is 00:19:44 I still am really, I don't understand the Teddy and the Riley letting go. I mean, I know what they want me to believe, but no. I'm sorry, no. I think another reason they want them. This one, I was okay with them keeping them alive for one reason, Alicia. But they didn't ask about her. Somebody said something about it, right?
Starting point is 00:20:06 In the beginning when he was talking over the intercom. That was it. It was. No, she told Strand, though, right? Dakota said something to Strand about it. She just said, she just said, Alicia is a beginning. We are endings. Right.
Starting point is 00:20:20 She's safe. That was all they said. So, I mean, they know that she's still alive. So, you know, that's okay. Yeah, that's all right. I mean, it was, it does give hope to episode 16, the final show of season 6th, it titled The Beginning. It does give hope for that show to be rid of some people, to,
Starting point is 00:20:48 lay some groundwork for the future, right? Because it began with, I mean, the dam city, yes, you heard me, the damn city. Morgan's damn city was in shambles, right? It was over. It was over. And so I'm guessing so are the Cowboy Khan city, right, where Strand was over. I think they brought the whole group out to try to fight it, fight the sub. but that didn't work.
Starting point is 00:21:22 Right. And so now, you know, originally they, once the warheads go off, they told them to get as far away as you can, and where are the warheads going to go, and where are they programmed to go? I just feel like if they don't, I think I like the idea of one going off, right? I like the idea of we can only program this thing to not have nine of the ten go off.
Starting point is 00:21:50 and one goes off, and thankfully that goes to a city we don't care about. But I wanted to go to a city we care about. I do. Let's kill some horses, something. I want to see Wasteland. I'd love it if all of them go off, and they somehow, they get to that hotel where they have that bunker where Alicia is. Yeah. And so they survive it, but then the next season of fear is like post-apocalyptic, nuclear and zombie wasteland.
Starting point is 00:22:17 That sounds like a video game. That sounds cool. Yes, it does. I like that a lot. Now, one thing people, I've seen some people want is how, which will people, some people want this to be the cliffhanger for this season would be the end of episode 16. He's Madison showing up at the hotel. No. Stop bringing Madison into a stupid show.
Starting point is 00:22:43 Nobody's saying that. I'm no quite a few. You're doing that on purpose just to tick us off. No, I'm not trying to. I'm being serious. No, you're not. Yes, I am. The world doesn't, no.
Starting point is 00:22:54 She's not coming back to the show. I don't want her back. I don't want her back. I'm just telling you the truth. You're lying. I'm more on board with Madison's husband showing popping back up. Right. That would be kind of cool.
Starting point is 00:23:06 Still alive with a quarter of a leg left from the helicopter crash. I'm good with that. Remember they never showed his body? Never showed his body. No, they did. They never found his body. Right. Right.
Starting point is 00:23:16 There's a reason for that. He still could have both legs even. It's good. I'm good with that. I prefer him rather than Madison. Yes. He was one of the only characters from the original cast that, like, was actually evolving better. Like, he was such a wuss in the first couple episodes.
Starting point is 00:23:35 Then he became, like, Mr. Fix It and all that stuff. Remember that? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, but his, by the time he died, or presumably died in the helicopter crash, he was actually a character that I was starting to go, okay. The same with Nick. Yeah. No, not Nick got worse and worse and worse.
Starting point is 00:23:53 Yeah, I mean, I was okay with Nick, even after the smoking of the Walker brains. You know, let's party. Well, remember, it seemed like he was going to take up Morgan's ways until Charlie killed him. Oh, my God. I hated Nick so badly. I just wanted to see, like, zombies using him as a smorgasborg and just slowly eating him over three different episodes. So it had been so awesome. It would have been okay.
Starting point is 00:24:22 Like Golden Corral Buffet. Just have that it. Showing a couple people smoking his stupid brains at the bar. That'd be funny. So who do you, death predictions for episode 16, who do you think and who do you want is going to die? Those are two different questions. Who do you think is going to die and who do you want to die?
Starting point is 00:24:42 Oh, man. Well, the way of looking now, none of them are going to die. That'd be my guess. Yeah, they all have, they all have their. their life power left, which is really disappointing. Maybe we lose... What's her face? Yeah, what's her face?
Starting point is 00:25:05 Who's married to What's his face? Oh. You know her. That person. Like, that helps anything. Oh, what's her stupid face? It's married to Dwight. Sherry?
Starting point is 00:25:14 Yeah. Who's her? That would, like, completely... That would be, like, a waste of time. Like, the whole Sherry. arc, which part of it was really dumb. That's okay, though. I'm all right with that. I mean, that's a story arc that can go away now.
Starting point is 00:25:29 But that's kind of a theme for fear as well, what you just said. And if I can quote, a waste of time and dumb. So I think it fits right in. Yes. Now, yeah, Sherry just dying in comic books, which pitched off Dwight a lot more. I think that's in the official IMD description, actually. I think it is, too. The original episode, Waste of Time and Dumb.
Starting point is 00:25:51 Dumb. Like Rick, I know Rick, if I remember correctly, in the comics, Rick accidentally snapped Sherry's neck. So let's see if she gets a snapped neck comic. You know, maybe one of the warheads lands directly on her. Okay, darn the luck. What about the trucker? What about the trucker? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:15 Where was Wheels? Where was Wendell? Wendell wasn't there this week. What happened to him? He hasn't been in the entire season? hasn't? No, he hasn't. We talked about him, right? She mentioned him when she pulled up at the dam. Yeah. She wanted, because she wanted the, she wanted the military vehicle to take him out on
Starting point is 00:26:35 Hans because I guess he can't get up on a horse. Interesting. So he might not even be signed onto the show anymore. He'd be a prime candidate to be killed, actually. They haven't used him at all. Yeah. And they can just say in passing, oh, that's where Wendell was, Bo, blah, blah. Well, I mean, I mean this in all, you know, seriousness. You could just show a wheelchair, and you'd go, oh, he's dead. Show a wheelchair crinkled up in the mud.
Starting point is 00:27:07 You go, oh, so he got hit with a bomb. A couple of wheelchair wheels is kind of rolling on fire. Yeah, you got to hit. Okay, do you think, because I know Teddy, like that's pretty funny. I don't Teddy wants to die. Do you think Teddy and Dakota will die? They have to. They have to.
Starting point is 00:27:28 Again, no way. Unless they sneak out through the secret hatch on the bottom of the sub that nobody knows about. No way, old man, Dory lets him go. No way. Yeah, I don't think he lives. I'm kind of on board with them developing Dakota into more of a badass villain. That's crazy person, yes. She takes over the cult from Teddy
Starting point is 00:27:50 And that fight... That fight would be between her and Alicia, right? Yeah. She would want to take over the cult And Teddy left that to Alicia. It's a little teeny-boppery because of her age, but, I mean, that is kind of the direction. It seems like they're going in.
Starting point is 00:28:09 So that would not surprise me at all. A lot of people don't... I agree with this. A lot of people don't want another Charlie situation, which it doesn't look like they're going down at least, but... Yeah, no, they're not going to do that. Anyway, so next week is the final episode of season six for fear the Walking Dead, the beginning.
Starting point is 00:28:29 So it does, you know, I'm looking forward to it. I am looking forward to seeing at least a little bit of destruction. We can go through every character, but I have a feeling that anyone except for maybe wheels is, you know, their life force is pretty strong these days on this show. It's a little disheartening. Grace's baby wasn't. Yeah, I mean, she even her life force now. I mean, they didn't even bring her into the sub. You kidding me?
Starting point is 00:28:58 She's the lonely, but she worked on the reactors. They don't bring her in? What? I'm, you know, I'm hoping it's a mad dash to the hotel with multiple nukes going off. That's what I have. That would be my perfect scenario for the finale. I think that'd be so good. And then you see the bombs go off towards the end.
