Season 10, episode 19, titled One More.
This actually should be interesting, is Talking Walking Dead.
All right, all right, welcome to it with myself, Jeff Fisher, Jason Butchrell, and Maximus Fisher.
As I said, episode 19, Gabriel and Aaron, which we talked a little bit about last week,
search for food and supplies to bring back to Alexandria.
be small tragedies lead to bigger tragedies as faith is broken and optimism is fragmented when they are put to the ultimate test.
That is the IMDB description.
I would describe it as the day-to-day, you know, maybe the mundane day-to-day living during the apocalypse.
You know, years later, as they're fighting to, you know, provide food, right?
I mean, they got no, their crops have been ruined.
They're trying to rebuild.
They're trying to build back better.
And they're on now.
They are out searching.
And I didn't hear from, obviously I watched it with Max, since, you know, still living in the same house.
And, but I didn't, you know, watch it with Jason.
I didn't hear from him.
During the entire episode, it was such a strange thing because we normally communicate.
And I thought, oh, no.
Oh, no.
So before I get to Maximus's review and before I let you know how I felt, because I kind of liked it.
And I don't think Jason did.
So, Jason, welcome.
How are you, my friend?
Yeah, thanks.
Yeah, wow.
I did notice that I hadn't texted you that night, and I was like, I'm just waiting for something interesting to say.
And it never happened.
And, yeah, I think that, and you set it up perfectly when you said mundane, which I think anytime you want to describe an episode that it's like, let's look at the mundane things that happen in life.
Maybe not primetime viewing.
That's what we really care about.
The mundane?
The mundane, yeah.
So very, very well put there, Jeffrey.
I want to start with, I hope this doesn't get too long-winded, but there are goods and bads from last night.
And right when I first started watching it, I was like, my first thought was to try and see who the director was.
I tried to look, but I must have missed it.
I didn't see who the director was.
But the director did a damn good job, I thought.
Like those scenes, like when they were walking up and it was through the burnt.
outdoor swing back and yeah yeah yeah that was really good that was really good when they were
slaughtering the walkers i really like the effect of the blood hitting all the the flowers and
stuff that was really cool um but get me don't get me wrong here i'm in the mode at this point
of watching this that i'm not thinking about storyline so i'm completely trying to shut myself off
from the overall storyline and last night was the perfect example of what you have to do when
you're watching these bonus air quoted episodes now well they
said bonus episodes i didn't take them that literal i didn't think they were just going to be bonus
throwaway episodes but that's pretty much all we've gotten so far and that was my biggest issue with last
night i was i was like oh they're gonna but yeah okay but jason don't get off to go off the deep end
they're introducing a new character uh it'll be great with a big actor which apparently they hated him
so much they had to kill him freaking twice i know not just once but twice i know
In one interview, he said, I was kind of hoping now for triplets.
Yeah.
Right.
And Jason, I just looked it up.
The director of this episode is Laura Besley.
Laura, you did a damn good job for the script that they gave you.
I would like to see her do some more.
I'm curious also.
Maybe she's done more episodes.
I don't know, but I'll be looking for her in the future.
I hope they, you know, some more impactful episodes that she can get her hands on.
But no, yeah.
I enjoyed watching it in that mindset that I am in with fear.
Don't think about storyline.
It's just depressing when you think how many episodes we have left
and what they tease for next week of what it could be right now.
So, yeah, that's where I'm at.
Well, I mean, we have three shows left in this, in the bonus episode round.
Literal bonus episode.
Yeah.
And I don't know.
It look pretty good.
I mean, I love Princess.
I know you love Princess.
We're obviously skipping ahead to next week.
But, I mean, the episode looked like it was going to be pretty good.
So we'll see, obviously.
We'll see.
But this week, Max.
I'm going to have to say, in my opinion, this is the best episode of the bonus episodes.
I really enjoyed this one.
I'm being serious.
I really enjoyed this one.
Yeah, I get it.
But is that kind of like saying I've ate three Brussels sprouts?
This one Brussels sprout was better than the other two Brussels sprouts.
So it was amazing.
This wasn't a Brussels sprout, okay?
Russell sprouts are terrible.
Exactly.
But no, I actually really enjoyed this episode.
Maybe it's because I'm more into some type of character.
I like watching the characters.
And I'm just a fan of Aaron and Gabriel in general, and it was good seeing them again.
And I know you have your biased against Gabriel, but whatever.
Yeah, all jokes aside, though, you know, like, I'm all for, like, character development and all that stuff.
I think that helps.
Do we really need more character development between these two characters?
I already know who they are.
Yeah, I mean, correct, we already know who they are.
And this was just another day-to-day episode.
of what they're doing.
They're out searching.
They've got a map.
They're trying to find places that have already been plundered, right?
Maybe even by them, let alone others that are still out there.
And there's, you know, they still have, you know, the fun part of the day for me was at least going through the day-to-day killing of walkers, right?
Yeah.
And how they've kind of perfected that.
Right, right.
The mud scene was fun when you tell the mud.
Right.
But Jason, you, like myself, you know, during the military time,
know that you don't walk through mud, right?
You never walk through mud unless you absolutely have to.
So, I mean, just like the pulling of the arm scenes,
from a fat walker, I might add, the time I wasn't at me.
The, you know, those were predictable scenes.
Right.
You did have some good walker kills.
There were some great walker skills, but those two, like the mud scene and the store or the mini-mart scene where they pulled the arms off.
I mean, those were predictable.
Oh, the pole.
Yeah.
But the pole and the field, right, when they were throwing the timer out into the field to make the walkers, you know, for the...
That was cool.
Yeah.
You know, it was out there.
That was kind of cool.
That's what I mean.
They, you know, they've perfected the hunt, right?
they know what to
what to expect
could be there.
And that was really cool to see.
Then we got into, you know,
them finding
the warehouse that they hadn't seen before,
right? That was Robert Patrick's,
the star
that was the special guest star
of the episode, who I thought
was great. I really enjoyed his
characters,
multiple characters.
And that scene
was kind of that whole scene with him was I thought really good but I don't know that we needed
the character building of the mundane all of it prior to that scene yeah and in that scene I just
really kind of started getting annoyed because I was like okay they're drinking whiskey
savor the whiskey that just went on excruciating long for me yeah I did right they actually
They actually said on the show that comes on after that they cut that scene up for time.
There was this whole part of the scene for they filmed where they were drinking and they were drunk and they were betting.
So it could have even been better by being longer.
Yeah, they filmed an entire scene where it was Gabriel and Aaron setting up a mini golf course inside the warehouse using the stuff in the warehouse.
I mean, we saw just a tidbit of that, right, when he had the little golf club in the ball.
And it was interesting, you know, you knew that there was a reason that the, you know, when they killed the animal, which was the boar, and they ate the boar.
And that's what, you know, you knew that, I mean, my first thought was, well, how did the boar get in there?
I mean, boring just don't wander around.
Yeah, you know, they'll hang out in here for a little while.
Yeah, let me dive into those, like, scenes really.
quick, just to get nerdy on it. But like
those scenes,
they only work if it's
two characters that you really like.
Right? So like, in their main
characters. So like, if they would have had
this episode with, let's say,
Rick and Daryl,
I'm all in on watching that
episode, because I really
care about those two characters. They're A
characters. And I still
consider Aaron and Gabriel B characters.
They don't. They're not...
Not a lot of people do anymore. They're
They're in the A's, dude.
You know why, and that's my next point is they don't have any more A characters.
Right.
They've all left the show, died, whatever.
Or they're just not there, quit, whatever.
Okay, let's name the A characters you consider A.
Negan?
Negan.
Daryl.
Carol.
Ezekiel.
Magiol.
Maybe the king, right?
I mean, they've forced him on us, too.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, I think he's risen, just in my opinion.
And, of course, everyone's opinion is different on these characters, but what's his name?
Out with the King.
Why am I blank on his name?
Jerry.
No, no, no.
No, Jerry's B.
Oh, Eugene.
Eugene.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
He's an A.
I'm all in on those characters, and if you have something larger with them, I'm more into it.
I joke about Gabriel, but no, I like the character.
And I like Aaron as well.
But I don't need to see a full episode further talking about their character path because I just don't care about them.
And, you know, you say that in my notes as I'm going down through the timeline of the show in my notes, it says, you know, after dinner chat in the beanbags, slow.
Yeah.
I mean, that was enough.
And I got one of our listeners, Jeremy, messages me out on Facebook.
I've never wanted two characters to get bitten more.
I like this.
During the scene where they're laying on the...
It's at the same time.
I mean, I just type slow in my notes, and I got that from him.
It was fantastic.
That's why I was expected to hear from you, like, I'm going to shoot myself.
I don't mind seeing them back up the main characters.
It's perfectly fine, but that's what their job is, is be characters.
You back up the other characters.
others.
Right.
But you don't lead the episode.
No.
That's where people start going, oh, God.
Here we go.
Not for a lot of people, at least with these specific two characters.
Yeah, there are a couple of the A's that, well, they're considered A's now.
They don't necessarily have to be A's with us, I'll tell you that.
And the thing, hasn't Aaron been around since season six or five?
Yeah, but when he first was introduced, he was.
maybe a D character, right?
So has he risen to an A?
Not in my mind, but in the world,
find he has.
Length of time when the show doesn't rise you, in my opinion, too.
You know, it's just, yeah.
It's a good character.
Yeah, for sure.
It's a fine character, and especially now,
because, you know, he's got the, you know,
the huge wrecking ball arm.
That's fun to have around.
I'd put a sword on that or something instead of the ball.
The record ball, you've got to get too close.
I know.
He did have a sword on it, remember, during the attack on hilltop?
Yeah, he did.
That's much cooler.
No doubt.
It's sort of wandering around with that big old record ball.
But even, like, Gabriel's character development on this, I was still confused about.
So, like, they were trying to show that he's kind of gone a little bit off the deep end.
You know, he's like, he's willing to kill somebody, which he wouldn't have before.
Yeah.
And then Aaron was freaked out, which he probably should.
Well, I don't know.
Actually, I think most of us were thinking, actually, Gabriel's kind of being smart on this.
Yes.
Absolutely.
Aaron.
Because during the time, you know, after the Russian roulette scene and the scene, which I thought was a great scene.
Oh, yeah.
The Russian roulette scene, I thought was amazing.
It was great.
And then, you know, he obviously tried to, you know, add a little redemption by stopping him
from killing himself and then talking, you know, letting him lose and introducing himself.
And I was thinking the whole time, no, we can't take him back.
Yeah.
No, he's not, I mean, maybe we leave him and say, hey, we'll come by and check on you ever so often, make sure it's okay.
You know, but no way you bring him back with you, right?
And seriously, I was like, no, he can't become, that's too, you know, that's too much of a crazy person.
So when Gabriel, you know, grabbed the loose wrecking ball, ding!
It was great.
And at about the same time, it was good at his, I was thinking, well, you know, where was this guy?
And I'm glad that, you know, they called that out at the end on the way out of the building.
Aaron's like, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, how did this guy hear everything we were talking about?
Yeah.
He started getting sober.
Yeah.
Right.
and started thinking again, you know, which I thought was, which I thought was smart.
And when the first scene after they went upstairs and got the twin, or the, it wasn't the twin, but, you know, technically it was the twin.
When they went upstairs to see, find him, I remember thinking that, wow.
I mean, this is, I don't know that we want to take this guy back either.
he's out of his mind chained up up there right yeah so i mean it made sense that they got rid of him
and if we are to i say believe maize's story his brother attacked him first and he made him play
the russian roulette game and he was the only one that survived right okay all right well maybe
you know and it was you know they show the picture of them back you know pre you know uh apocalypse
as the brothers in the backyard
We all have those pictures
Yeah and he had the skeletons of the rest of his brother's family
Yeah it was nice of them not to get rid of those
Why get rid of those?
Just make the brother suffer chained up
Looking at their dead bodies
Rodding in front of them
Yeah that's the guy you want
To bring back with you
Right
That's the guy
Yeah
Just for me and for me
I really personally
enjoyed this episode.
Yeah.
I mean, even
there were some
some really, really good scenes.
No question.
You know, especially
you realize, you know,
the,
the Bible scene,
and I wipe my ass with those pages.
Yeah, I read it.
I know it all.
Well, that was part of his,
you know,
and then, you know, after that,
that's when he gets into his redemption scene,
right?
when he realizes that, you know, Gabriel actually convinces him, hey, you know, you're lost to come back.
But in the end, it was Gabriel saving their lives.
Your guys' sentiment was echoed pretty much, like I saw a tweet from the official Walking Dead account, and they said, what did you think of tonight's episode?
There were a few people that agreed with me, but I think the majority of them agreed with Max that that was their favorite one.
of the season this year.
I just, to me, this boiled down to, there was one theme, and it was the line from Gabriel,
you know, evil people aren't the exception to the rule, they are the rule.
Right.
Yeah.
That was pretty much a theme of the entire episode, and that was like a no S. Sherlock.
Yeah, we've established that in this world.
I didn't need another episode to tell us that, personally.
I didn't need any more character development on B characters.
For me, personally as a fan of the show, I see the finality of it now.
It's not this, oh, cool, we got 34 more seasons left.
It's, we've got a handful of shows left.
And I just feel like we're wasting time.
And I want to like enjoy like, where's the story going?
I want to be in the story.
The mundane, you know, things that they do every day.
I know, but isn't that the theme of,
what's going to happen, right?
The ending is just, you know, them doing the mundane day-to-day stuff that tries to get you back into life, right?
I don't know.
Yeah, I don't know.
Maybe that's what they're thinking.
I don't know.
I really think that we still have quite a bit of episodes left, though.
Like, I think.
Well, we have three here in the bonus round.
Three left.
And then you have, what, 20?
Two-ish.
Okay.
So, okay.
I think it's, season 11, they said, was going to be 20-some episodes.
I don't know.
I don't remember the exact number, and it's easy to find out.
But it was going to be these bonus episodes,
and then they were going to have so many episodes in season 11
that was going to wrap it up, you know, two parts,
11 or 12 episodes each half.
Yeah, 11 mid-season finale than the other 11 or whatever.
Yeah.
And so I think,
you know, another thing that made this episode, which saved it, was adding Robert Patrick, right?
I mean, everybody loved him, and it was great, and he got to be two characters, and he got to be a guy that was, you know, a little tough to figure out, and he got to be crazy, and yet we got rid of him, which was, you know, which was good because, you know, they can't afford another top notch heavy pain.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Robert Patrick and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
Come on.
That would be great, right?
But we're looking at probably Jeffrey Dean Morgan ending most of his time in these bonus rounds, right?
Yeah.
Because the last one is, here's Negan.
And, you know, the rumors are that that's, you know, he's not going to be around in season 11.
Right?
This was the end of him.
So if that's true, you know, we may still get some flashback episodes of Negan.
in season 11
where characters are thinking about
I remember when Negan bashed this guy's head in
or we attacked the sanctuary
we get some flashbacks in a dream
or something but for the most part
he's gone right he's over
well we don't know that but
the big like rumor mill of the fan
community is is this
going to be Negan's final episode
because Negan in the comics
after the whisper of war
he goes away he goes away he's not
a part of the Commonwealth storyline
at all in the comics.
I'll be fine with it if they do it right.
You know what I mean? I'm just getting, because
we're getting down to the end, end of
beloved characters, end of the show, period.
I'm getting this dread in me
that, because, like, how often have
TV shows just fully botched the final
season? I know.
I hope, because we've loved this show so much.
I hope that's a lot of.
But, like, you know, like, lost or, oh, man.
The big one that
it comes to mind since I started watching it again with my sister-in-law.
I'm going through it again, which has been great is Game of Thrones.
Game of Thrones. I knew it.
I mean, I've been going through it.
I've been like five now, I think, five or six season.
I've been watching it with her again because she said that she hadn't watched it.
I was like, well, I'll watch it with you again.
I'll go through it with you again because it's fun watching it with someone who hasn't seen it.
Oh, yeah.
For me, you know, for me, because I know that they're, oh, this is a great episode.
I know what's coming.
So it's great.
And it's been so much fun watching it again through her eyes, you know.
Oh, my gosh.
But anyway, the final season, right, was, I mean,
Oh, I thought you were going to say great.
Was disappointing.
I don't know about awful, but it was disappointing, right?
Yeah.
But anyway, but it goes back to the example, right, that your dread is justified
because we've seen it happen before.
I've been invested.
So I was so pissed off after Game of Thrones.
I've been invested in Walking Dead a lot longer than I was Game of Thrones.
No doubt about it.
Me too.
Well, I've never been invested in Game of Thrones.
I haven't seen an episode, so it's mainly just been dead for me.
Yeah.
And when you decide that it was time, I'm going to go somewhere to sit through it again with you,
so I get to watch it again and live it through your eyes.
I'm ready.
But it's been, you know, again, the, you know, if past performance is indicative of future performance, let's hope that's not true.
Yeah.
Well, they better step it up.
That's all I'm saying.
I think, you know, next week, I think we'll get kind of a vision of how it can be.
I hope.
I hope so, too.
I think the promotion of it felt that way.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It gave me some vibes of when they were kind of got caught by the cannibals.
Oh, yeah, the Terminus.
Yeah, it gave me some of those.
The wrong bunch of people.
I know.
Awesome.
How good was the show then?
I remember when it ended, was that a mid-season finale when it ended and they got caught?
And you're like, oh, my gosh.
I don't know if it was mid-season or even season ending, but they were when they were caught in that train car, man.
And the ending was Rick saying the wrong group of people, man.
Yeah.
Oh, awesome.
Oh, man.
That entire thing, like that, the show at that point was still at a time.
when you thought we might see a major character get eaten on camera right now.
That feeling is gone.
Oh, yeah.
No question.
Which is disappointing.
Yeah.
Jason, just to let you know, Laura Bezley is directing next episode.
Oh, very cool.
Okay, good.
And she's directing Here's Negan.
Oh, wow.
That's great.
So there you go.
She got a lot of the bonus episodes.
They threw her a bone.
hey, we're going to be doing these shows that are questionable.
Do a really good job in directing them.
Except I hope, like, at least, I think we all can agree.
We hope at least by the end of the bonus episodes, the best one is Hughes Negan.
It should be.
Yeah, that would be.
And next week's might be a close runner up for me.
Because, like I said, I'm all in it for the continuation of the story.
So next week is really big for me.
Yes, absolutely.
So remember to subscribe to chewing the fat so you have, if you're listening to this and you're not a subscriber and you just happen to be listening to the show, what do you think?
Turn your life around.
Make your life better and subscribe, okay?
What are you talking about?
And we'll be here next week because we've got three more weeks left of the bonus episodes in the bonus round.
And so we want to see how much money we can have you win, which will be nothing no matter what episode you listen to.
And, you know, listening to Talking Walking Dead.
One last thing, go ahead.
And one last thing, too, to remind everybody,
after the week after here's Negan will still be here
because fear starts back up.
Oh, yeah, that's right.
We have fear back on.
Oof.
They better turn that thing around, too.
Anyway, Jason.
Jason, Dr. Excellus Fisher.
Jeff Fisher here.
Thank you for listening to Talking Walking Dead,
and we'll see you next week.
