Season 10, episode 8, the mid-season finale of the Walking Dead, titled The World Before.
That makes this, Talking Walking Dead.
All righty, welcome to it, Talking Walking Dead.
Myself, Jeff Fisher, Jason, Jason Butchell, and Maximus Fisher.
And Jason, I know, decided that this is, you know, I guess the Thanksgiving holiday week.
And decides now, you know, I'm off.
I'm off.
I thought the whole thing was going to be dark.
Okay.
I thought the whole network was.
Yeah, well, there you go.
Many of us continue to work.
That's why it's a network.
So I just like to.
Anyway, so amazingly, with today's technology,
we were able to hook up and connect.
Just like the walkie-talkies on Walking Dead.
They never go dead.
So the episode description on IMDB,
a fight causes tensions in Oceanside
and the Alexandrians set out on a high-stakes mission.
You know, it was
It was okay.
I enjoyed it.
I enjoyed it.
Oh, shut up.
I thought it was an interesting episode.
Yeah, it was interesting.
So I'll give you, this is, go ahead.
I'll give you the, I'll give you the, I'll give you the responses that I got last night.
Just a couple, just a couple, one response, crap episode.
Next response.
That episode was awesome.
So there you have.
What?
I know.
Well, I'm just saying what those are the responses that I got.
This episode seems pretty divisive between the fandom.
Yeah, no question about it.
For me, it should have been called, it should have been titled Great Expectations
because we like, we had so many great expectations.
I would like to say, I'll just say it now.
I was wrong.
Yeah, we'll get to your wrongness.
To back max up on this, you expected something.
to happen of substance.
I'm struggling to find out what actually happened of substance the entire episode.
Did you find anything?
Let's see.
There was that one scene.
I mean, Dante died.
That was a good scene.
That was a good scene.
That was a good scene when Gabriel killed Dante.
That was good.
And it was well worth watching, no question.
Sure.
I mean, that was good.
I mean, to see him Hulk out and just call him.
all crazy.
Which is weird
because Gabriel's been like the most moral character
in the entire show.
I know.
I know.
It was very nice.
And, you know, of course, we get the, you know,
the burial of Sadiq,
Carol and the King.
You know, the Carol and the King,
that's one of the good be
one of their new movies, I think,
Carol and the King.
Carol and the King.
Oh, we had the opening,
which was the
where we saw Dante infiltrate Alexandria.
Yeah, I mean, how Alpha,
you know, got him to infiltrate.
all part of that. And that's what ticked
Gabriel off, right? So he saw
the movie and realized that he'd
been had. You know, is there still
you know what? They're still recording people
that they're bringing in. Okay.
And you know what? I haven't
thinking about that. The whole like
the one scene especially
where their little water set up
where they've got a switch that goes
from drinking to holy crap
everyone's going to die in a decision.
Who in the right mind would make
that little switch? That's
The stupidest thing I ever seen on my mouth.
Make the knob?
Yeah.
Doesn't every plate system have something like that?
No one trip and fall towards the switch because if you do, you kill everybody in the village.
Dumbest thing ever?
Plus, it's also, it's not protected.
Yeah, no one guards it.
Yeah, it's just out there open.
We trust, we trust that you're going to flip it up.
Don't worry about it.
It's fine.
Ridiculous.
Get out of it with that.
We did have a, we did get, and then my favorite, I love the, uh, I love the, uh,
the
Michone,
Judith,
violin boy
traveling around
in the horse car.
Speaking of wrongness,
Jason,
you were wrong as well.
You thought Luke was gonna die.
It was close to.
I thought he was.
I think he's still going to.
I do too.
It was close.
It was close.
I was like,
here comes,
here comes.
But I still think he's in it.
I do too.
It was so close.
I thought I was ready for it
for him to be getting bit
so they had to kill him
something and nothing.
And then he was saved.
by whatever homeboy is that's, you know, the boating, yeah, Virgil the boater that, you know,
Michelle is going to go get weapons with.
It's just weird.
It's weird.
Yeah, I mean.
And we know that she comes back.
I thought this was their way of just shipping her off, you know, where she goes to never to be
found again.
But we saw, you know, some of the sneak peaks for, you know, the second half of the season.
She's in him, so she's still arrived.
I read, I just read an interview with Angela King.
and they were talking about how they didn't have Michone for a great part of the season.
Yeah.
So, like, it wasn't like budgetary reasons.
Well, that's what they said.
It could have been budgetary.
Right.
They said they just didn't.
Yeah, it's either or.
It could be making an excuse for it.
But they said they had to be very sparing with how they put her in the season this year.
And she was addressing, like, how they're going to eventually get her there.
And she said that what she's doing right now is, like, the vehicle to make her choose to do something.
Yeah.
So what I'm expecting is it's.
she'll probably end up going off to help his family.
I mean, it's got to be that somehow.
Like she'll go get the weapons, bring them back,
so all the Alexandrians and hilltoppers can use the weapons.
But then she'll probably end up going back with them.
That's my guess.
Yeah, it's really where they have a nice setup
and she feels safe there.
And it's, you know, she's alone and able to contemplate.
But she still, why wouldn't she take the kids with them then?
I mean, she has to go away where they think she's coming back, right?
Otherwise, she'd take the kids with them.
Yeah, I don't know, man
I don't know
I wonder if Virgil dies
And she feels responsible or something
I don't know
Oh, that's possible
And then she goes to bring the family back
And never returns
Something like that
Yeah
Because you know
Then we have
Because you figure you have
They teased
I read that
I know the article you're talking about
And they also teased
That
What's her face might come back
This season
Oh Lord
Yeah
we might get a little bit of her in this season before next season.
So.
I think that'd be cool, like the final episode.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, where they see her, you see her that she's back.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's cool.
Yeah, that would be really cool.
That'd be fine.
Because we're hurting, man.
We're hurting right now for some big characters.
I don't know.
There's nobody that's real strong.
We got no Negan.
We got no beta this episode.
The two strong characters.
There's negate and bade nothing this episode.
Nothing.
We got a little bit about the...
I kept waiting.
I know.
Do you know, yeah, and the way...
I think this was also that same article, Jeffrey, that we both read, but they pointed
out how Alpha, how she had this silly way of running that totally took me out of that scene.
Do you notice that?
She was, like, kind of hunched over and running, like, bent over.
And I'm like, why is she doing that?
Is she trying to look creepy, or is that how the actress actually runs?
Because it's stupid looking.
That might be a way to run.
But she's running into a cave.
So, Jason, I don't know if you've ever mined coal.
But I have, you know, I've mined coal.
And what happens is you get, it's called low coal back.
And that's a fact.
It's called low coal back.
You can't stand up straight anymore.
I mean, guys suffer from it all their lives.
So I think that's what she has.
She has low coal back.
Oh, coal back.
I forgot after you invaded Granada, you went into the coal mine.
It's been all about that.
Thank you.
I don't like to talk about it.
so you know so then we had you know the i did like i did the crew on the prowl and you got the idea
that they were you know someone was watching them and you know darrell and carol are busy fighting
and you know trying to figure each other out again and uh you know it's uh as i don't know you're
right i did expect more you've talked me into it a lot more yeah a lot more i mean even the things
that ended up happening were just
dumb. Like, I don't understand why Carol's
all not even thinking.
You know what I mean? I think she's just driven
by the fact like, I want to
kill Alpha. I think that is her only
goal at the moment.
But you've ever been a moron. Even when she's been
driven. Right. That's a total moron.
And she's never been a moron.
No. Well,
she never had to see her kids head on a spike.
Oh, stop
bringing up the spikes.
Who cares? They're a giant part of
the story. Right. It wasn't. And it wasn't. It wasn't. It wasn't
doesn't even her kid.
Her kid was left burning in a barn.
Who cares?
We're already done with that.
Then her other two kids, the older one killed the little one, and she had to kill
the older one.
Yeah, kids don't do well around, Carol, I will say that.
They don't fare well.
At this point, maybe we'd consider she's just a bad parent.
And I'm fine with that, but again, she's not an idiot, right?
I mean, she's, she always, she always has been, she's always been one of our smart killers, right?
That's what makes her so great.
That's what she saved us at the beginning and the end of one of the seasons.
They're messing with the wrong group of people and she was there.
She's saved, we saw her wipe out people.
I mean, she's never been an idiot.
And you're right.
They've turned her into being dumb.
Yeah, a couple of seasons ago, if somebody else would have ran off chasing the main bad guy into a cave,
she would have been to what said, hey guys, maybe we're getting dark.
Remember being led into a trap?
Daryl kind of had that idea.
Maybe we should randomly run in one at a time.
Daryl kind of had that idea because he took out his knives.
Yes, he did.
But he continued to go in, though.
Well, everyone rushed in before him, so I don't think he had really a choice to like,
hey, guys, we have to stop.
They were already in before him so that he could have just been like, crap.
They're in.
Okay, I have to go see what they're going to do.
Yeah, that's true.
And nothing was happening.
it was uh if you guys ever go if you guys ever go running it blindly to a cave i will gladly wait
at that way hey you guys okay in there no but jason you've got to come in and save us that's the whole point
is you're gonna you wouldn't come in and save us well i mean i would double check that you're on 10 first
and then you're like yeah come out in okay and i love the uh i love i mean it was really cool
once they get in the cave and you know they're apparently trapped
with the with the with the with the with the giant horde of walkers from alpha's walkers hoard um
but it would seem to me that while trying to find a way out you would i don't know
kill a couple of walkers and pour their blood all over you and then walk among them and try to get out
does that make too much sense no that makes total sense and actually the the whispers of
show to us during the season.
They don't even have to do that.
You can just kind of walk around amongst them.
Yeah.
Just if you're quiet and you're whispering
and you know, maybe you don't even need
a mask anymore.
You can just kind of walk around.
Okay. Here's where I disagree
with you there. Okay?
Not you, Jason.
I understand you. I'm talking about Jeff.
Here's where I disagree with you.
One, okay.
Say they could get a walker even though
they're below them.
Yeah.
So they pull one out and gun him and then
walk around. Okay, fine.
Here's a thing.
Even in the horde.
and probably still in the cave,
there are always whispers among the horde.
Oh, yeah.
Ooh, that's a good point.
Never mind, Jason.
You're not going to do that.
I'm not going to walk around.
There's always somebody on hoard duty.
Yeah, you just keep chopping arms off.
Yes.
One eventually will say how,
and then that's what you know.
That's really funny.
So, you know, we have that.
And then that's where we were left with them stuck in the cave.
And of course, that's one of the big, one of the big tease clips that they aired for the beginning of the last half of season 10 is, you know, them trying to get out of the cave.
It does seem like it was a little, it really was just dumb that they go chasing into the cave like that.
It really was.
It was just a dumb thing.
Well, Carol went in first because of, because, I.
Alpha ran in there, so.
I don't know.
I got it.
I mean, I get why they did it.
It's just, I feel like we're being, it's a manufactured thing instead of, instead of,
I mean, you just wouldn't run into the cave like that.
You just wouldn't.
You've talked to me and now I'm pissed.
So have, have we, have we established if, uh, if, uh, what's your name,
Gamma, like, trick them?
Or did she legitimately think that the horde was, that she would,
hold information or did it?
I think Alpha
moved the horror. Yeah, I think Alpha did that
without letting Gamma know.
Oh, you think so? Okay. I couldn't tell.
I'm conflicted on that. I feel like
she's concerned. I feel like we're going to find
out that Alpha knows that Gamma's starting to shake.
And so she wants
to, you know, she's doing, making a few
moves that will
show whether Gamma is on her side or not.
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
Because she's sent Gamma out there and to, right, she knew that Gamma was talking to Aaron and set it up and wanted that to happen.
But a few, you know, the times that she's come back, she's been, you know, a little off.
So I think Alpha is realizing that, you know, Gamma is starting to wobble a little bit.
And so.
And of course, we had Gamma talking about her nephew.
Well, that's what I mean.
She's starting to wobble, right.
I mean, she wasn't talking about that to Alpha,
but Alpha sees how she's not being herself
when she's back with the whisperers.
So I'm pretty sure Gamma is being honest with us up to this point anyway.
You know that because Alpha's smarter than that.
Can we just start calling Gamma?
Oh, continue Jason.
No, what about Gamma?
Should we just start calling?
Should we just start calling Gamma Mary?
Oh yeah, that's her real name, Mary without the mask.
Ugh.
It's a cute little thing.
It's a cute little thing.
I don't know, man.
I couldn't quite tell if that's,
because it was just too perfect that that's the way,
that's what she used to get Aaron to trust her was the fact that she, you know,
the little baby.
And, you know,
he's already kind of slipped the fact of her that, you know,
he showed her the little drawings that his daughter made for her.
Yeah, yeah.
I was like, this seems way too perfect, you know, for her.
That was her way in to get his trust, was talking about the kid.
And I don't know.
Yeah, that's possible.
I'm not completely sold.
That's possible.
Yeah, that is possible.
I'm giving Gamma the benefit of the doubt, and you're obviously not because she's a spy and on Alpha's side.
So that's very well could be.
Yeah, that's very possible.
And I love, you know, so then we.
you know, we're back.
I really do wish a violin boy would have died.
It's time for him to go.
What's wrong with Luke?
It's time for him to go.
His little whistling thing and his Rock Mononoff thing and just have a nice day.
You know, maybe Magna could die.
How dare you?
I just did that to make you mad.
I do that bug you.
I think that whole scene that was just kind of dumb.
Like I remember they were talking about like how there was a guy.
there, if not maybe more.
And they're like, oh, so you make sure you're being quiet, you know, telling that to
Luke.
Right.
And then Luke is like, okay, yeah, you know, quiet.
You know, hey, while we're on, they're going to make a detour to a library and see
we can get some books?
I was like, what?
There's still a library?
It's been 10 years since these people have all been around this whole area.
We still have a building.
We haven't been to.
And we're under threat.
Like, why would they, like, make a detour to a library?
Well, because they're safe.
they're safe they're in their horse drawn car.
You love those.
It's so stupid.
Really stupid.
Then we had earlier in the episode, we had Rosita talking to Gabriel after she had killed a few walkers with Eugene.
I got to say, that one walker with a hard hat, that was cool.
It was fun to watch.
There's another death scene of walkers that was fun to watch.
But it was, you know, she's out just feeling bad and wanting to kill walkers and realizes that
she's just a mob now.
She can't do everything she used to do.
Ugh.
Like that's what she's worried about.
She's not worried that, you know,
the father of her child just died.
Well,
she did mention that, you know.
That is what she was.
Yeah, she did.
Yeah, she did.
I just, I just,
it's,
I did want a little bit more.
Someone, I've wanted more than just Dante dying
and a few walkers.
We forgot to mention the beginning scene with Dante and Rosita with the baby in the house,
and then Walker, Sadiq, came on, which I proved you wrong about.
Oh, well, I know you were looking to prove people wrong since you were wrong on the episode,
so you went back to find some stuff wrong.
That's fine.
Don't worry about it, Max.
That's okay.
Yeah, except you were wrong about the sneak peek.
It's okay.
Yeah, I know, Sadiq was a quick turner.
He was one of those quick turners.
And it turns into the Sadiq,
Walker, which I was, and I was okay with him
eating the baby, too. That would have been great.
That would have been great.
We needed something like that to happen.
Instead, everybody walks away. Stop.
Except Dante.
Dude, my girl was like a total A kicker.
I know.
Like, holy crap. She went medieval.
Yes, she did.
Yes, she did.
She was badass, which
Judith. Which then surprises, which then surprises
you how, you know, how she felt
unworthy with the walkers, because she
was great.
right she was still
the badass fighter
so I'm not quite sure
what the deal was with that
and just so we get the
weekly thought from our
Facebook Justin
first
Max was wrong
Alpha is still alive
after his confidence
that she would die this episode
I'm certain that he didn't really read
the comics
Facebook Justin
I would like you to know that I did
I own that
Second, why is Music Man still alive?
His cosplay weapon is annoying.
He is annoying.
Time to go.
It seemed like they tried to recycle the plot of the episode when they introduced us to Negan.
It didn't kill anyone and left us hanging for six months to learn who got the bat.
Except we don't have any emotional attachment to any of the characters outside of the few originals.
Which is what we've been saying all along.
Thank you.
that message was on point
I agree with all that
I know
I know
100% right
100% right
and that's exactly
what we've been saying
about having
the emotional attachment
of these characters
they're trying to force
some of them
and some of the characters
that they've forced
the attachment to it
we don't have
we have an attachment
because they're
they're part of our group
but we don't have that
man they can't die
because when they die
you know what a shame
bummer he's gone
what cracked me up was uh when
rosita was saying you know maybe maybe you know dante's right we're not uh
we're not as strong as what we think we are and then i think it's in a craft just you said that
or just later it came to me when when they assembled their little strike force you know
to go out look for this uh this hoard like before the strike force would be like
Rick Darrell like Abraham like some legitimately all these like badasses yeah but most of them
are dead now
So now it's like they, like Carol and Daryl grab the death chick.
Yeah.
She's a good fighter.
You can't deny that one.
She has been a good fighter.
People like Magna, that Magna probably weighs, what, 75 pounds?
I was like, this is the most ridiculous strike force I've ever seen in my life.
But Jerry was there.
Jerry was there.
Jerry did show up.
He covers a number of people, so we're good.
Could this season Jerry, Jerry, Darry.
Jerry has not suffered with
food loss during the
apocalypse.
I just thought of something.
Imagine in the mid-season premiere.
They're heading, they're trying to
escape that cave from the horde.
And they do, but one of them dies.
And that one is Jerry.
Yeah, they'll feed Jerry to the walkers.
I would say that would.
Yeah, that would.
That would really suck.
I would...
But he is the one guy
that could probably feed all that entire hoard.
Give you a lot of time.
Give you a lot of that.
enough time to get away.
Which also shows, you know, the value that, you know, being your friend when the zombie apocalypse
happens.
So, like, you know, when the horde does come, you know, accidentally tripped Jesse and, you know,
the horde has enough to go on for...
I'll take one for the team.
No problem.
I'm good.
Oh, it would be one.
I'll take a horde for the team.
No problem.
I got you.
No problem.
All right.
So, uh, um, where are we?
at. Jason's going to a quick
where we're at
for this season
and where we're headed for the last
half.
Man, I'm not expecting
anything. I think they're going to track this
out. I really do. I think that
I mean, the same
interview that we, I think that both of us
read Jeffie, Angela Kaye mentioned
that, you know, once the
whisperer stuff goes away,
then all they have as far as written
source material is just the Commonwealth stuff.
Yeah.
And I think he mentioned season 11 as being kind of like to start of that.
It's kind of like.
So I think that, I don't know, man, they're going to wrap up whispers in a half a season.
Which is what, which is understandable given the source material.
Right.
I mean, there were some people that were thinking they were going to start wrapping it up this first half of the season with the death of alpha, but that didn't happen.
So go ahead, Jason.
Well, that would have been, so that would have been so perfect.
like Max's prediction should have been what they did.
Yes, that's great.
And then they would have had the entire rest of the half of the season for the Whisperer War with beta.
I mean, it was perfect.
Yes.
But instead, it kind of seems like they're going to drag that out a little bit and then kind of, I don't know.
I think that you still need a beta, or Alpha Death in the first, what?
Three episodes.
You have to, right?
I, okay, I was wrong.
However, I do not believe I am wrong on this.
I do believe Alpha will die this season.
Oh, yeah.
Well, I mean, that's what Jason is saying, though, but she will die, you know, within the first two or three episodes of the second half so that we can get to the war and be done with it, right?
Yeah, but the only thing that makes me worried about Max's prediction is how much they're building up Carol's, you know, like H-blind hatred for alpha.
Like, it's almost like they're building up her revenge, you know, kill shot.
Even though, I don't know, like, we won't be the one to do it.
Yeah, I mean, I hope that's right, but it's just weird how they're building it up with Carol so much.
Yeah, that is.
It'll be so weird if they're building it up with her so much only for Alpha to get killed by Deegan.
I think that's the reason they're doing it.
Yeah, it sure does.
No, I think that's the reason they're doing it.
Think about this.
They're building her up to be, okay, Carol's going to be the one to get the kill shot, all that.
They're building it up.
Negan's the one to do it.
Carol is pissed that she wasn't the one to kill Alpha.
Right.
And then that's another struggle that she has.
And she's going to have to go back and, you know,
film The King and I all over again.
Now the King and Carol for their, you know, their new movie.
I see where they also,
and did you see they introduced the new Walking Dead show?
Oh, yeah.
You know, the world beyond walking.
dead world beyond oh yeah and that and that same group the three circle yeah was big in that in
their characters yeah they picked that actress uh for one of the lead that uh julia julya remand yeah
you know i'm talking about yeah yeah so that's interesting it's a kind of an expensive get
no doubt which means it'll probably let fear like twice during the entire show
and there's you know still we have we have fear to look forward to but never never
Never mind that because we've got the second half of Walking Dead season 10.
And that should be, you know, second week in February?
They said February 23rd is when it returns.
They actually came out with the day because I saw returns in February, but I never saw a day.
Hardwick said the day, February 23rd.
Who's he?
I don't understand who Hardwick is.
I've never heard of Chris Hardwick.
We're allowed to say the names.
We're not allowed to say the name of the show.
The promo that they did said returns February, but I didn't hear Hardwick say the 23rd.
So there you have it.
February 23rd.
Wow, that's a good long time because they usually do it the first half of February.
So they never make it away until the end of February for it to come back?
Wow.
That's agonizing.
That is agonizing.
That really is.
That's a good early birthday present for me because that's four days before I turn 18.
Well, there you go.
Happy birthday.
That's what they're doing.
what they've waited for.
They're waiting for the return for Max's birthday.
All right.
Thank you, Jason.
I know you've got to go.
I know you're off and running with your little, I don't feel good, but I'm off
work, so I have to go travel.
No problem.
Don't worry about it.
Yeah, yeah.
I appreciate it.
Have a good Thanksgiving.
I'll see you later.
Be sure to subscribe to Chewing the Fat with yours, truly, Jeff Fisher.
So you are alerted when, hello, talking walking dead goes up early Monday.
