Season 11, episode 16, titled Acts of God, the season finale of the second part of a three-part final season.
That makes this talking, Walking Dead.
Welcome to it with myself, Jeff Fisher, Jason Buttrill, Maximus Fisher.
Episode description on IMDB, Maggie prepares to defend Hilltop.
and the people of Riverbend against Hormonsby.
Well, all right.
So welcome to Talking Walking Dead.
It was the finale of the second part of the three-part last season of Walking Dead.
I enjoyed the episode, no question.
Some things happened that we called on this show.
Absolutely, no question.
I thought I was hoping for, I mean, this is a jump ahead.
All right.
So we had Maggie fight Leah and of course and Darrell kills Leah called on this show.
You're welcome.
That's one of the reasons you listen to this show.
And I will say that I really, for some reason, I know I know we don't want Maggie to die, kind of.
But it would have been nice to see Darrell shoot Leah in the head and then have her fall on Maggie with a knife through her heart.
Double kill.
so that it's just devastating for everyone involved
but the entire episode was you know it was enjoyable
there were we're going to have there's a few things we're going to pick apart
for sure that I really man holy cow
there's some things that I don't understand at all with this episode
but I did enjoy it overall
yeah I thought it was like one of the better midseason finale
of the entire show really you know talking about
the entire series uh this ranks up
there, I think. Just the way it was shot, the music was awesome, everything was good, like, you know, the action. It was one of the better ones, I think. There were a couple of things that really pissed me off. I know. I don't know what to say it now or what.
Well, we can get to it because I know, I know if we're walking down the same road, one of them was most definitely a problem.
Well, I'm just going to come out with it then. So shelving, I say this almost every episode. Why shelved Nigen? Why putting a hole?
and have him stay there.
It makes no sense.
I don't get it.
It's almost like a cameo,
and he's not a real part of the show.
You know what I mean?
But there's no way in Hill.
Negan's going to hide in a hole while Maggie goes off by herself.
He's hiding in a whisperer wormhole titled from him.
Just to watch the kid?
No, thank you.
Yeah.
No.
So now he's just a...
Probably should have done more.
I agree with that.
He's a high-class bodyguard babysitter in a hole.
Just to gain a little bit of, well, I'm kind of beginning to trust you.
From Maggie, no way.
Yeah.
And that was, I guess that was kind of cool, you know, like I'm beginning to trust you.
I thought it was kind of cool.
But just the whole, yeah, if that was to set that up, that's stupid, right?
I mean, come on.
I don't know, man.
I don't know if they're trying to diminish his role or if they're just trying to, like, make it make sense for when they have their show.
I don't think it's either.
like personally for me by the way
I thought this episode was good not the best
mid-season finale but definitely not the worst
we've had definitely worse but I thought it was good
about the Negan thing
I agree he probably should be doing more
but then again
I'd rather have this than the nothing
that is there in the comics
let's be honest here people
can we be honest with that
yeah I mean I get that but we already have talked
about how we you know since we've already
bypassed the comics
That's right. That is true. I agree with this. I've said it's better than the nothing we had, but I still want more.
Yeah, exactly. Yeah. I just want a whole lot more. But yeah, if you've already shown that you're just doing whatever the hell you want to do now. And like the actual canon, the comic books are just kind of like a backstory at this point. We just kind of loosely follow it.
I mean, if that's the case, then make Negan one of your prime characters. Everyone will agree and everyone will love it.
And you're already building up for the after show, right, the Isle of the Dead.
You're already building up that and everyone's excited for it.
So you still can lay the groundwork for that.
My gosh, I mean, even with them, even if they fought for Negan to say, I'm not,
I'm leaving the kid with my pregnant wife in the wormhole,
but you're not putting me on the sideline when we're battling Commonwealth for this safety
and security of all the people.
No, not going to happen.
Yeah.
Yeah, that makes sense.
Anyway, so, go ahead.
Can I say the second thing that pissed me off about it,
even though I generally like the episode?
The second thing that irritated me was,
I even watched this episode early.
I could not wait because I thought we were going to get a big,
like, CRM or Rick reveal.
I just knew what's going to happen.
I just knew it was going to happen.
And they will not do it.
I know.
I'm like, come on.
Everyone would love it.
It's just like making Negan a bigger character.
Everyone would freak out.
I agree.
I definitely agree with that one.
And it would have set up the final eight episodes to be tremendous.
Because they wouldn't even have to show him at the final eight episodes.
It doesn't have to be huge.
It just has to be a kind of like a wink, wink, wink, nod, nudge, nudge.
That's all he had to give us.
You see a helicopter.
That's it.
I'd be fine with that.
I'd be fine with that.
Even if it was like, I don't know.
If there was a helicopter and you saw him in a hat, like a boot or a boot.
Seriously, don't get your opinion with the hat.
Judith has the hat.
Whatever.
This is not the same.
I mean, that's his style.
You know, he wears the cowboy.
He has a cowboys.
And Nichon has his boots.
Well, it's not like he's going to go barefoot and he's bald.
He's going to pick it up.
I mean, CRF's got some clothing stores.
He can pick some stuff up that.
Then I did like, you know, and again, it was, you know, overall, great.
A couple great fight scenes.
The Maggie Leah fight scene.
the Darrell, Gabriel and Aaron
fight scene with the soldiers
and the junkyard was fun
that was great
I feel like
I don't know
there could have been some better deaths
in that fight scene but it was
fun to see
and they're off running around
you know Lance has got them
running this whatever
clearing mode with these soldiers
just getting them away from his people
and so you could take them out
yeah so we could take them out
I mean, we knew that that was going to happen.
And so they can't help Maggie.
Right.
Get them far away from her.
While they were doing that, the only thing even close to a CRM tease was when they were going through the houses.
And then Daryl said, hey, you guys been to South Carolina?
And they're like, uh, and they're like, why?
And he's like, well, because, you know, there's a rumor that there's weapons and stuff on top of buildings.
Right.
And I'm like, huh?
The only thing we've, I mean, we've heard that plot line, but it was for CRM.
Fair point.
So we already threw the bone to that.
It would have been great to see, have something, especially with the, with the locus and, you know, the acts of God from the locus.
The crop killers, as I like to call them.
Right.
And it would have been nice to see, you know, I mean, obviously your call with the helicopter flying over, looking down would be perfect.
would have been perfect and the world would have loved it.
It would have been wonderful.
Then we get back to the,
we get back to the Commonwealth and Eugene and the reporters
and all this secret cabal of people behind the scenes at the Commonwealth.
And the king is busy,
busy little beaver at the Commonwealth,
getting the people behind the scenes ready to build up.
That's kind of cool.
That's kind of cool to see.
I'm unsure right now,
if they are positioning the king to take the Rick plot line
or if they're positioning Mercer to take the Rick plot line.
I'm not sure.
He wasn't even in this show.
Mercer and Princess weren't here,
but I think either Daryl might take Rick's spot or Ezekiel will.
I've said this before that.
I think because we now have four spinoffs now.
We've got to talk about that later.
Yeah, we do have to talk about that.
We saw a couple of announcements last night that will,
will bring some new shows to the forefront
aside from Isle of the Dead with Negan and Maggie
And with this one though
Was pretty interesting where
With Ezekiel or Daryl could take Rick's spot
Because I've said before I think maybe the Daryl Carroll show is a ruse
Why are you dead name?
He's the king man
What are you talking about?
Yes he is king Ezekiel
He'll be messing with this Ezekiel
You're throwing me off calling him Ezekiel
He's the king
Okay.
We had that.
We had Eugene and Max together.
Yeah, well, we opened up with Eugene and Max.
A little post-business in the old apartment complex.
Being nerdy reading, like after reading like physics novels.
Eugene probably thinks he's on a role, man.
He's like, I got what that other girl.
She was a fake, but who cares had happened?
Now I got the real deal.
I know.
He's sitting back cracking his knuckles, smoking a cigar.
No doubt about it.
That's what happens, man.
They don't...
We love Eugene.
They don't smell desperation anymore.
I'm all me, baby.
Really good.
And then we got a little bit of Sebastian being his, you know, being his smart-ass self with Max in the office, just being, you know, knowing that Max is up to something.
Did he actually see what she had?
I don't think so.
Maybe.
I'm unsure.
I felt like he did.
And then as I watched it, I'm like, no, I don't think you did.
I think this episode proved to me what I've been trying to tell you guys for quite a while was Pamela Millen is not a bad guy per se.
She's just a incompetent leader, where the bad ones are Hornsby and Sebastian.
Yeah, I mean, but she's still in charge, right?
I mean, we have Lance taking over at the end there where he gets, you know, we know he gets shot in the face, which was, you know, a near, near death shot.
from Daryl and at the you know as we jump ahead but i mean we have you know him hanging the uh the third
rike or the game of thrones flags over all the over all the territories commonwealth right
commonwealth over the ocean side in alexandria and hilltop and we're supposed to believe that
pamela doesn't know any of this i think so yeah okay yeah i don't know how you could hide that
for very long. But you're exactly right. It was so much like Game of Thrones, like, you know,
especially like when the Starks took back Winterfell. You know, that's what I was like.
I know. It was awesome. Also, did anybody else get severe two-face vibes at the end? And in the
beginning when you were flipping the coin, did anyone get severe two-face vibes? I didn't think about that.
Yeah, yeah, you're right. That's absolutely that character. 100%. I'm really curious like what Pamela
Milton knows about. Right. So I'm really curious about this list and the coordinates. So what
is that? And the names, is she a part of? My mind just keeps going right back to CRM. Like,
I'm wondering if it's a trade, you know, people for people or they give their undesirable
so that CRM can test them. Yes. Stuff like that. Maybe. I would have been, which would have been
good to have a, see some sort of meeting where we're giving those people to CRM, just saying.
next season or the next half of this season i would love that like our group goes to investigate
uh you know one of these locations and they see CRM you know uniforms guarding a building or
something would be great i'd love it and maybe maybe that's where we get rick write his name out
a piece of paper something like that yeah i don't think they'll show him they have to i mean my gosh
something has got to you know we're having this argument uh here
here in this house last night because Max, of course, is, we don't need Rick. The audience loves
him, but...
No, what I didn't say that. The audience needs to see. We've been over this. The audience needs
to see Rick. They have to bring him back into the fold. I have to. He's got to, like,
at least be a flashback in this next half of the season, right? At least? Yeah. Maybe, but also,
that's honestly, that's if Andrew Lincoln wants to. I'll be honest here, that it's up to him. He's
the reason he's the reason Rick left.
Okay, here's the deal.
Andrew. Do you want to try to make
one of the three movies we promised?
Then the audience needs to know who the hell
you are. So come back.
Yeah, he's already said
he's not leaving the universe.
So he's doing it. So I don't understand
like it's not a major commitment for him
to show up for a flashback or to show up for a TV.
I agree. No, I agree with you guys. I do.
I'm just, I'm just saying
there are the, there are reasons
why it could not happen. I want it to happen.
but you also have to look at the realistic reasons.
And we know that they're already done filming,
and while they're really good at keeping secrets,
there has not been any talk of that.
You know, any rumors of that.
It's just been, you know, this show,
wanting to bring that to the forefront.
I don't think that's an indication of whether he will or won't be in.
I mean, when they want to keep these secrets,
they're pretty dang good at keeping the show.
Yeah, I agree with that.
I had to go back to Game of Thrones again,
but they did an entire season after they resurrected John Snow and no one knew about it.
I mean, that's crazy.
And that's weird point.
Trying to leak everything they could.
I mean, it's nuts.
That was an awesome season, too, by the way.
Yeah, that was one of the best seasons.
It was awesome.
We also had, I have to say this, I found it cool when Daryl was, Daryl, Aaron, and Gabriel were walking through the woods and they saw the traps and Daryl immediately figured out it was Leah.
He was just like, it's Leah.
Yeah, well, he saw the little thing that she makes, right?
The little, whatever.
hell her little cutie things are her uh what do they call those uh oh you know what they make at the
restaurants the little napkins forks toothpicks oh they make the little ducks and the little birds
oh like the origami yeah origami yeah it was lea origami in the woods yeah that's exactly what it was
the uh that whole that whole sequence i i really dug you know with the the the spec ops people you know that
lent to Leah and they were like going through you know the hilltop house and I was like this that was cool.
I had that trip wire.
Yeah, I find that that was kind of strange that Maggie was willing to destroy hilltop over that.
I mean, I realized that she she knows, you know, she I guess realizes that it's more of them being together than actually being at hilltop.
But Hilltop was a strong point.
And to destroy the house there, that means it's.
gone, right? I mean, that's their fortification. It's been burned. It's been burnt before,
but a part of it got blown up now. Yeah, she's definitely kind of like a people over places,
but the one thing different about that place, though, is her husband's body is buried there.
Right. Yeah. I don't know. I don't know she'll ever really want to leave there. Who knows,
but then we had, I have to say this. We got about Dingleberry being buried there. That's right.
Yeah, Glenn and Abraham buried there. But then we had the seed where a lot of,
and Marco are talking like, okay, let's get it going.
They get up and Marco just gets blasted in the head.
Lose another C character, you know?
Yeah.
Oh, well.
I would say more D actually.
Yeah, okay.
All right, you see, minus, maybe.
I was like, I didn't even know the guy's name.
And I remember seeing on like social media, people talking about like, oh, Marco died.
I'm like, so?
Like, who cares?
Like, it would be more impactful if, like, that round grazed Maggie, like, on the leg and did no damage.
Like, that would be more impactful.
What's the other guy's name?
Even if Elijah got wounded, that's bigger than Marco.
I had to look up his name too.
I know we were at the house.
I'm like, what's his name?
But the way when it happened, it was supposed to be a big deal.
And like everyone was like, it was, it was cool though.
That it cuts to Terminator Leah walking out of the smoking house of the of the hilltop with like the with the locus spot.
behind her. That was cool.
Yeah. And, you know, her, you know, finally, you know, capturing Maggie of that whole fight scene was,
was, you know, enjoyable. I mean, you knew that Maggie wasn't going to die because there were
so many times we're going to suspend real life. And there were so many times that Maggie would
have been dead. So, yeah, that's the problem. That's the problem with how they do it now.
Like, if this was the third or fourth season or whatever, like, we would say, oh, crap, there's
a big possibility Maggie dies in this episode.
But now she has so much plot armor.
Like, it wasn't suspenseful at all.
It was kind of fun to watch, but it wasn't suspenseful.
But you knew she wasn't going to die.
The one thing that is...
That's why I wanted Leah to fall on her.
Getting shot and then fall on her with a knife right through her heart, so they're both
laying there dead.
Never happened.
Why do you want Maggie to die so much?
I just want somebody to die that isn't...
What's his name?
Marco.
Yeah, Marco.
But the funny thing is, too.
One thing I actually kind of appreciated with this fight, we all knew Maggie wasn't going to die.
That's fine.
But what I was hoping for is with this fight is, okay, something's going to, like, if Leah is going to lose, she's going to lose, quote, unquote, unfairly, because she is a trained soldier.
She is not a trained soldier.
And I was right.
Because guess what?
Leah whooped Maggie.
And if it wasn't.
Oh, yeah.
If it wasn't for Darrell, Maggie would be dead.
Can we all agree on that?
But we knew that, I mean, you knew, and especially those of you that listened to this show, knew that Daryl was going to save the day.
I mean, that was that was the storyline.
It had to be that way.
You were so happy when Leah got killed.
It had to be that way.
You were happy anyway.
You wanted her dead for so long.
Angela called me.
I can talk about it now.
I couldn't talk about it then.
And I laid out the groundwork for her.
No problem.
I got you.
Angela, no peace.
you said that a long time ago
I know I mean it had to happen
That's just the way it had to happen
No question
And it was you know
So now we have
In the in the next
You know the final eight episodes
You know it's going to be really interesting
If you go with the theory that Pamela
Still
You know she threw away Max's scholarship idea
Because hey you know what we do with that funding
That funding goes back into our party
We're not helping
poor people out with that extra money no that's not happening and so that was just kind of a layout for max
to get more angry with her but i mean that has to we saw in the preview that they're protesting
uh at commonwealth because of the stories of them lying uh the story of the you know that she was
lying to the people of commonwealth so i mean let she if she doesn't know about lance once that
news gets back and Lance cuts back to Commonwealth, that's a big deal.
Definitely.
I mean, that's a big deal.
People are definitely going to be like, what are we doing?
Why are we, we're going out and killing people, but we're not taking care of our own people here?
They're not going to be able to see the, the Lance bigger picture of taking over the, you know, the East Coast.
Yeah.
Anyway, it was the whole, the whole episode was a lot of fun.
Oh, and Jason, you are going to like this.
It was confirmed by multiple sources on the show that comes on after,
and even in the promo little video we saw for next part of this season.
Judith will be a mainstay next part of the season.
That has been confirmed.
Nice.
Yeah, well, Darrell did say that Norman Rita said that she, you know, he does go back
and she comes out of not being that kid going to school character.
You know what I mean?
So that's excellent.
I mean,
and maybe that's when we get Negan out of the wormhole too.
I don't know.
Or maybe he just,
you know,
is sitting by the fire waiting to have his new baby.
And,
you know,
goes,
I don't know how they're going to connect that part of it to being with Maggie in New York.
She kind of teased that they are on this mission,
the Isle of the Dead.
show is them being on this mission and still not liking each other.
So I don't know, maybe does CRM steal the kid and they have to go get the kid, you know, from CRM?
I don't know.
I don't think everything has to revolve around CRM, just saying.
Oh, you're pissing me off now.
Yeah.
Because we won't.
Shut up, thanks.
Really, because a whole show revolves around CRM and we didn't get Rick.
That was world beyond.
Which was a huge mistake.
I agree.
We got Jadis.
It was a huge mistake.
So then we find, okay, so let's, all right.
Okay.
So I really enjoyed this episode and, you know, it was obviously episode 16.
So we have eight more left.
Really, it's kind of exciting and sad at the same time.
We're in the final.
We're in the final leg.
I know.
I mean, this is, this is it, right?
I mean, we're the final eight of the Walking Dead is pretty remarkable.
Crazy.
We're going to have to have a final.
party like absolutely oh most definitely even if it won't be the end of this show because of the other
spinoffs and all that we're definitely going to have a big send off of the walking dead we have to yeah so
we know that fear the walking dead kicks up uh starting on amc plus already i believe and then of course
next sunday but it's surprising me i don't know why it threw me a little bit but this isn't a new season
this is the second half of season seven for fear so
All right.
You know, we're all excited about her coming back.
I can't wait for that.
I am so not looking forward to this in the slightest.
Oh, oh.
Yeah.
But they announced two new shows last night.
One wasn't announced one we knew about.
The other one I didn't know about.
Tales of the Walking Dead.
We knew about Tales of the Walking Dead.
We've known about that for like two years, the anthology show.
That's the anthology show.
Yeah, but I mean, it's ready to go.
Yeah.
Now we know it's ready to go.
I'm just saying we've known about it for years.
This new one, and Jason, you could watch this.
This is, what is it called again?
Dead in the Water.
Dead in the Water of Fear the Walking Dead show.
It is a prequel of Fear the Walking Dead starring Riley, Teddy's right-hand man,
the weapons expert from the submarine, on the USS Pennsylvania.
On the Sub.
Huh.
It's a prequel of him when he was in the Navy in the USS.
Pennsylvania.
At the beginning of the outbreak goes on.
At the beginning of the outbreak.
And then he like links up with the coal leader?
Maybe.
Well, I don't know if we'll ever get to that part, but it's before then.
It's when the submarine is still active.
It's when like the world goes to hell in the beginning.
You know, same as fear.
You know, it's a good concept if they actually do it right.
And it looks like they might because it looks like this, it might actually be what we had hoped fear was.
except it won't you know they won't have the one of the previews was you know the the boat was
getting walkers the sailors were turning into walkers and the people on the ship and it may have been
Riley I don't remember was talking about hey if it's going on down here it's going to be going on up
there too and we may have the only way to solve we may be the only way to solve it speaking of you know
firing off the nukes.
So they were, you know,
they were at the beginning of the,
the pandemic. So I don't know what information
they're going to
give us
underwater
from what was happening above
water. You know what I mean?
We're hoping that it would be what we
hoped fear would be and we see
it from the very beginning. Now it is only
six or eight episodes. I can't remember,
but it's only, it's a mini-series.
And Jason,
you have the ability to watch all of it.
It is an AMC Plus exclusive, all episodes airing immediately, I believe, today or tomorrow.
Really?
All right.
I'll be having AMC Plus in my internet connection here very soon.
Really?
I'll have all the spoilers for you guys shortly.
But the weird thing is I've done like, I've dig, dug into this.
I can't find anywhere saying it's going to be aired anywhere on TV, except
on May 8th and all six
episodes are going to be aired on May 8th it looks like
on AMC like in a row. How'd they
keep this quiet? That's crazy.
That is surprising. Like they kept the whole prequel
on the USS Pennsylvania quiet.
That's wild. Yeah, I mean
that's cool. I like it. And you know,
they're busy producing this stuff because they're not
doing the movies with Rick.
Yeah.
So stupid.
I know. So do you want to get a free trial of
AMC Plus so we could watch it?
Yeah, we'll figure out a way to make that happen.
We are not going to miss it.
I guarantee you that.
So, anyway, let's, you know, we'll wrap up this episode.
I know we've yapped for long enough.
But I was final thoughts, Maximus, on the end of the second part of the three-part ending?
The episode itself, good.
This part of the season in general, I'd say was okay and to pretty good.
I'm really excited for this final part.
It's the final part of the walking dead in general.
It's sad, but all good things must come to end eventually.
Let's see how this all plays out.
I know.
Mr. Buttrue?
It ranked right up there.
It was one of the better I thought, you know, done midseason finale.
My all-time favorite mid-season finale, just for it as a callback, was in the box car, in Terminus.
And Rick's like, they messed with the wrong people.
And that was like, he's back finally, because we had whiny Rick.
Yes.
They're messing with the wrong group of people.
I was,
I've never been in force for it to start over again.
Like I was just waiting.
I was like,
please start the next half.
You know,
I was like,
couldn't wait.
But I mean,
I'm in a similar,
like,
I'm not similar,
but I'm looking forward to the next one to start
because I really want the T's that I want to see.
So that's like really bringing me to it,
you know,
wholeheartedly.
But I'll probably won't get it,
but,
I'm not what I hope.
Listen, I promise that the next time I talk to Angela, I'll make that happen.
And if they didn't film it already, we'll bring, we'll set move that movie set back up.
We'll get that thing back up.
Make that happen.
Turn those machines back on.
Get on it.
Make that happen.
Get on it.
So a fear next weekend.
We'll probably do an episode of.
Fear of the Walking Dead, Talking Fear.
Should we do an episode of Dead in the Water?
We may have to do that as well.
Yeah, at a point when we've all seen all the episodes,
we'll definitely have to talk about the complete dead in the water.
Absolutely.
Yeah, we'll definitely do that.
So thanks for listening to Talking Walking Dead.
Appreciate it.
Follow along.
If you're a subscriber to Chewing the Fat,
then you get this episode.
