Season 11, episode 20, titled What's Been Lost?
This is Talking Walking Dead.
Welcome to it.
Myself, Jeff Fisher, Jason Buttrill, and Maximus Fisher.
The fourth episode of the final eight, four episodes remain.
Episode description on IMDB, Darrell and Carol's search for their disappeared friends.
I you know we saw the beginning of the episode last week as the special sneak peek so we knew what was happening with the king showing up and being disappeared in Carroll fighting back with the new Commonwealth CIA members so that was fun to see a little bit of the Carol that we love show up and you know hide from the CIA the Commonwealth CIA but I enjoyed this episode there was some there was some
some good scenes and I think we laid some groundwork for possibly, uh, you know, for
goodness in the future.
I agree that if you're a fan of the whole genre, it's kind of hard not to like this episode.
It was just like jumping in right with the action, a lot of good zombie stuff.
Yeah, it was fun, man.
And I'm intrigued with the whole train, uh, plot line going forward and where they take that.
Yeah, me too.
I thought this was a pretty good episode.
The Skin Walker was fun.
like there were some great scenes in this
this Lance was great
may he rest in peace but
I know
I don't know that I
I don't know that I agree with his death
but we're for sure he's dead right
well that's the thing
he was on he was on the Dingleberry show
so you know I guess he's I guess he's
resting in peace yeah that and how
he was dead that and how do you get shot
in the throat completely through
and then you see him coughing up blood.
We saw a body.
It's possible.
It's possible. Yeah. It's possible.
No, it's for sure possible.
Put a little super glue on that bad boy.
You're good to go.
The bleeding is stopped.
He's dead.
Yeah, he's dead.
But he said it?
He said for sure on the other show, the talk show.
As far as I know.
Actually, I didn't watch that from the very beginning,
but he was on there.
So I'm guessing that he's dead.
So best case scenario, the helicopter comes to pick him up.
He's dead.
Best case scenario, though, he does live, right?
I mean, he is saved.
It's possible that he could be alive.
See, that makes no sense to me.
That's what when I saw it, I was like, oh, there's no way he's dead.
And it was, it was perplexing because they were kind of seeming like the camera angle
and the way they showed him was like more finality.
so they were like very strongly hinting that he was dead.
But I was like, why?
That makes no sense to kill him.
I don't get it.
Well, they just had enough of them, right?
I mean, Daryl and Carol wanted him gone.
I mean, you can't blame Daryl and Carol for doing what they did.
That was a, by the way, that was a great scene with Joe was like, not you.
No, of course not.
I would have done it long before then.
But I mean, for the show going forward, it makes no sense.
I just think that's a big missed opportunity.
I think so, too.
I feel like it is too
I feel like that he's the guy that it was going to
you know shake hands with the new world
right and bring them bring them in
well he did put them on the path
right and you know there's a train
he talked about the train we talked about
you know that opens up the the trade groups
and entering you know the new world
bringing in you know the new worlds
together with the commonwealth
so I mean that definitely
opens that all up
But I feel like, I mean, while they were sick of him and he was the guy that was, you know, double crossing everybody.
So they wanted him gone.
But I felt like they should at least, you know, keep him around for a little bit.
Yeah.
His, his, uh, Carol was right on the money when she just stopped him when he was trying to wheel and dealer.
And like, she just put, you know, raise the gun on him.
And I was like, because that was kind of annoying.
I was like, shut up.
Come on.
Yeah.
And he just because you wouldn't shut up.
Give me a break.
But the resupply train,
resupply from where?
Like, where are you resupplying from?
I mean, it doesn't sound like another Commonwealth community.
He said communities like yours,
but I just got a feeling that it's not quite like their communities
and more like mega communities out there.
Because Commonwealth is a mega community.
They have over 50,000 people.
so yeah but how we know that
CRM right has
at least
two maybe maybe three
hundred areas of
of cities right yeah
so which is it's international
right and like it goes all over the country
and how else would you resupply these things
without I mean rail that makes them access yeah
I don't know. That's the most intriguing part of this episode, at least in my opinion. Maybe it's a little copium. I'm hoping a little bit too hard, you know, for a big reveal, but that's what I'm sticking to.
And the trains are a little old school. I mean, we know CRM has air capability, right? So they're dropping, they can drop stuff off, you know, with their helicopters, and you don't necessarily need a train to pick up.
you know, carbon footprint, Jeffrey.
You know, it's like, we know how certain
political parties just love
turn-of-the-century technology.
You know, that's not at the point of this, dude.
Rail is perfect.
Stop, Jason. Stop it.
It's the new wave of the future.
Sorry.
Yeah, I guess.
We heard that the Commonwealth was working
on a high-speed speed rail system
for probably about 20 to 40 to 50 years.
It never really came to fruition, so they just kept it old school.
We got to go. We got to go.
They were using cars and buses in this episode, dude.
Yeah, but they're trying to phase them out.
They're going to phase them out by 20, whatever.
It is interesting that they have access to the vehicles
and the gasoline that powers these vehicles.
That is interesting.
That is interesting that we still have that capability.
Very interesting.
Yeah.
It is interesting.
So then we had our girl.
Umico uh double crossing Pamela which I thought was interesting as Pamela was using her and know your lines and do the script and she's trying to figure out a way to save Eugene and also her brother right because I mean that those two you know obviously she's for our people she's part of our people and she wants to save her brother so it was kind of a was kind of a cool
double cross in front of everyone.
She said she was going to defend him.
Yeah.
Yeah, that was kind of a good move.
The most unsurprising move, I think.
Right.
It wasn't surprising.
You knew there's no way she was going to go along with the...
It would have been surprising if she actually went along and said, I will prosecute him.
That would have been like, okay, what's your plan here?
Which is what her brother wanted, right?
Her brother wanted her to not fight anymore.
Yeah, the jury's out.
They convict him of being a turd.
I mean, there's been strong hints of that, but her brother needs to go.
Like, come on.
This guy's turd.
And she clearly, she was protecting him in her speech.
Like, that's why she called him out.
Right.
So that everyone, like, so he can't be disappeared because she set him up as this, like, you know,
unreplaceable pivotal part of the community.
So she can't get rid of him now.
But he still.
Right.
In the beginning, he wanted to, you know, cook cupcakes.
You know, bake, I'm sorry, bake, bake cupcakes.
Because he hated being a doctor.
And now that's what's saving him, right, is being the doctor.
So it was just kind of strange there.
And I found it interesting that one thing, and I know we're bypassing, you know, real life.
But I did find it interesting that, you know,
Darrell lets Carol and Lance go.
And then he just appears.
We didn't see what happened to him there at the jail cell.
So, okay.
Sure.
You got out.
How many times have that happened before?
I know.
I know.
I just wanted to see a little bit of it.
I love that.
Yeah, he,
I guess apparently he went All Terminator, which she expected.
Oh, but like the spot where Hornsby was leading Carol.
I was like, I mean, we, I think there was
another episode, I can't remember if it was Walking Dead or Fear, remember they went into that
thing that looked like a haunted house and you're like, that's the one spot that you should
not walk into in any zombie movie. It was, it was walking dead. It was with, it was with Connie
and Virgil, remember with the, with the, with the, where they found the cannibal people. Yeah,
although the can people were kind of cool. But, uh, but, but this is like, yeah, let's go into
this dark, like tunnel that's crumbling down upon it.
self. Like, it'll be completely fine, I promise.
This is the best spot in the entire, like, 100 mile radius to go.
Yeah.
Sure got it.
But, I mean, he was doing it for a reason.
He was hoping that she would get killed.
Yeah, like him, like during the whole thing, he just stand there and watch.
Yeah.
I mean, that was kind of like to show.
He was trying to come off with, oh, I'm a changed man after the whole scene where he was
feeding his friends to, you know.
Sebastian?
Sebastian, yeah.
He was trying to put on like, oh, didn't he say like the old me died in there or something like that?
Yeah, no.
He was still scheming.
He was still trying to kill Carol.
And I would have been okay with them cutting his foot off when he said when he had the, when he had the beeper out,
you're going to have to cut my foot off and carry me.
And I was like, so I'll tell you what, we're going to cut your foot off and I'm not going to carry it.
How about that?
This episode would have elevated to one of the top five all time walking dead if they would have done that.
Yeah.
Have some balls.
Have some balls.
I love the one series.
where he's like, wait, I got to do something first, and we're like, what?
And then it goes back, and you just see Sebastian's head bashed in with the coin left in the brains.
Yeah, for Pamela had a fine.
That was nice.
Yeah.
That was kind of sweet.
But I would have liked to have Darrell just cut his, okay, no problem.
Then we'll cut your foot off.
And I'm not going to carry you.
How about that?
So either stay here or you come with us.
That would have been awesome.
It would have been awesome.
Best opportunity.
I see.
And we're still, I'm interested in the.
the trial
because that's where we're going to find out
that our boy Mercer
is going to just get rid of him, right?
He's going to help all of them get out there.
No problem.
The only thing I can think of with the whole point
of the trial has got to be to set
like a very public stage.
So some big event happens during the trial
like for everyone to see.
You know what I mean?
That makes sense.
That's got to be the only point for the trial
because I'm really not interested
in just seeing
a trial play through
if that's all it is
right and they convict him
and whatever
and then Yumico has some like
Tom Cruise you can't handle
the truth moment
you know and it's like
I don't care about that
I just hope it's like
like you said with Mercer
like some kind of big public thing
where Mercer walks in with a stormtroopers
and like they seize control
or something
yeah
or Pamela shows her true colors
in a Jack Nicholson way
you know
where she says
you're damn right
or the code red or something like that.
We've already seen that with Sebastian, right?
I mean, with the tape recording.
So what are we going to get that admitted into the sham court and play it again for the people?
Don't forget what Sebastian said.
Yeah, the whole tape recorder thing and with, you know, with Eugene and Max, I think the biggest
point to take out of this is if you're a father and have sons or if you're a teenager and growing
into a man, the biggest lesson to learn from that is.
is chicks will get you into trouble.
And nine times out of ten, you will take the fall for it.
So think twice, brothers.
Think twice.
Amen.
And you will do it and then realize,
crap, I'm going to end up doing it again several times in my life.
Which tells you, oh, no one's going to find out.
Just do this.
Do it for me.
Think Eugene in jail.
That's what you should think.
Wow.
Because that will happen.
That is guaranteed.
Four episodes left.
Wow.
I know.
I know.
They got to pick up the pace.
I mean, we saw the preview last night, and they're being, we know that they're being shipped somewhere.
Right.
We know that they're being in the preview for the next episode, which is the 21st episode, and the title is Outpost 22 for next week.
They are being shipped off.
Our people are being shipped off.
On a prison bus.
Yeah.
Yeah, right.
They've got a whole detail taking them somewhere.
Okay, help me out, guys.
The place that Hornsby took them to where there was two guys patrolling around it, that building.
Is that where they're being shipped to?
Yeah, I don't know.
Honestly, I don't know.
I was thinking that, too.
I was thinking that might be the train station.
I don't know
I think that's what he said
I think he said that's the train station
where the train's going to be
but
Oh I thought Hornsby was saying
that's where they are
No I think he was saying
That's the train station
I thought originally
That's what Hornsby said too
That's why I was confused
When like when they were on a bus
I was like oh wait
Was he lying or they just haven't gotten
to that building yet
Plus
Carol and Lance
Walk there
And Daryl walk there
And we need
an entire detail to move all our people there.
That's what I said.
I don't think...
It's not that far.
I don't think he took them to where they're going.
I think he took them to the train station.
It's possible.
I just don't ever remember them saying that.
Yeah.
And it was...
And so we know...
Right.
We know that they are going somewhere.
Well, outpost 22, right?
But we don't know where that is.
It can't be above the tunnel or at the end of the tunnel.
because it seemed like it was a lot farther away than that.
Yeah.
Right.
So maybe, you know, Max, I think you're right.
I think that Lance was trying to get them killed and almost did, really.
I mean, she ended up having to use the weapon in the tunnel, which alerted the guards.
So, but that's so much closer than needing an entire prison detail to move people.
Yeah, that's why I don't, that's why I think you just took them to a train station.
Okay. And I hope that that means that we have a particular trade route set up where we would meet some people outside of the Commonwealth. You know, someone by the name of, what's his name again? Oh, yeah, Rick.
Yeah, that's the best case scenario out of all of this.
And if we don't get him in these final four episodes, we're getting in our own show with him in Moshone.
You know what?
Are you working for AMC now?
Are you working for AMC now?
People have asked you that too, Jackie.
I don't see any other way around it.
If they don't have a cameo, I mean a real-time cameo, not a flashback.
It's a failure.
It's a failure.
I think so, too.
We talk about this.
We've talked about this for, I mean, since the beginning of the last eight episodes, right?
For the last four episodes, it has to happen.
Yeah.
It has to.
because the only people who are aware of Rick are the insiders.
He has to be brought back for the new people.
They have to know who he is.
It began with him.
It's got to end with him.
Right.
It has to.
It just makes, look, guys, I'm a writer.
So, like, when you do these things, you know, star with something.
I was actually going to bring this up.
As a writer, Jason.
I was explaining, Max, and he blew it.
What's more important?
What did you want to say as a writer?
What if the final episode somehow is written extremely well but doesn't have Rick in it?
Failure.
Yeah.
Failure.
I don't care.
Like if it's like he is the Walking Dead.
You can't end the Walking Dead without the poster boy of Walking Dead.
Right.
Agreed.
I agree with you.
You can do it.
I completely agree.
Will fans, some fans like it?
Yeah.
Because some fans actually like World Beyond.
So some fans will like it.
What if you like the final episode?
And it will be, and it will be, look, if they have already decided that they're going to live with the flashbacks,
and they're going to continue with the hints that we're going to meet up with Rick and don't, failure.
You know what?
It's a failure.
I was going to try to give them a little bit of break, but it's not going to be a break.
It's going to be a failure.
I am somewhat optimistic on just like pacing and some of the action that we're about to see though
because I mean basically what you're setting up is is you've got Walking Dead Era Special Forces
which is Rick's group which Rick is not a part of anymore but all of these groups like
Negan all of them all in one bus together it's like all the chickens are in one basket right
or the eggs are in one basket there so like in the in the preview though they show like
we saw at the end of this
episode we saw them a lot of our characters on a bus being drugged and shipped out yeah but in the preview
they show uh maggie preacher man and somebody else rosita uh yeah uh in the back of a military
truck not being drugged and the guard is sound to sleep uh-huh okay i believe that yeah i think they only
had one bus and it was way too full.
Yeah.
But anyway, you're hauling people out of the city under some sort of criminal enterprise.
You don't want overcrowding.
Yeah.
Yeah.
They all have dead seats.
Sorry.
I want to squeeze them in.
But what you're setting up is like this is basically this outside invasion force.
They can come rescue and burst in like the Kool-Aid man to, you know, Eugene's trial with Mercer's help.
And they do that, then they can tie a bow on this.
Right.
Over throw the community.
But I really hope they get to that soon.
You know what I mean?
Like they don't wait.
Like maybe the third to last episode that gets done.
So we have two episodes of, you know, looking towards the future, which I think would be dope.
I would love to see Negan as a Joker-esque character and back that bus into that trial.
You remember Batman
With the Joker backing in the buses
To the bank
That's what I want to have happen
Technically the movie was the dark night
And he wasn't the one doing it
It was his crew
I got it
I got it's the Joker
That's Nicky and I want that to happen
I just want him kicking ass man
Yeah finally
Don't want to see some random Joe Shmoe
Jumping him in the Commonwealth
And kicking his butt
I want to see him kicking the butt
I want to see you
And what could happen
To have that happen
is that the drugs that they're using on our on their on our prisoners kills his wife and the baby
he gets wife and the baby which sets him off I don't say sedatives don't do that though they do in the
walking dead world I've already decided they don't know what they're they don't know what they're doing
they've overdosed her on sedatives
pregnant women are put on sedatives all the time though stop it I'm pretty sure blogging me down
with facts
pretty sure an overdose of any drug, even if it's Advil, can kill you.
So it can't happen.
Not weed.
I just want, we want our Negan back.
We want Rick to show up.
And I think that's it.
I think the rest of the characters can all...
Oh, we forgot to mention them, the return of Connie.
We got Connie back.
Riveting, riveting, riveting.
In the closet of the hospital.
Riving.
led to so much, you know, right.
Surveillance that went nowhere.
Surveillance that went,
I was like, what happened here?
And all it did, right, it goes nowhere.
It was said it literally goes nowhere.
Pamela knows about it already has her arrested.
And, and slams you go.
Like, you know, I'm following you.
How was your stroll?
I, you know, we know you're following our people.
Uh, it's not going to happen.
Live with it.
And by the way, you know, I've got, uh, I've got your girl Connie too.
So once you zip it and worry about it.
worry about this. It was nothing.
It was nothing. I mean,
I thought they were actually going to say it was going to
lead somewhere. So when it turned out
like that, I was like, huh, okay.
I'm like I wasted about 10 minutes of the show right there.
Right.
I didn't understand.
I don't understand.
I guess maybe somewhere down the line
that might lead to something, but I don't see it.
And that was just a one-off, right?
She's running
from the people who are trying to
collect them. And
she stabbed him
or whatever in the leg and now she's at the
hospital in a closet sneaking around
and
then now Yumiko's going to
follow the CIA guy and that's it
okay all right and now she's
arrested okay yep
all right great
that was wonderful thanks for that scene
I know it was really weird
I got the sense that they're almost as like it's rushed
like they're really trying to fit like a ton of stuff
you know into a small amount of
episodes, which I'm not, I'm not completely, I'm not, I'm just nitpicking it really. It doesn't
really bother me too much. It just was like some of the plot lines are like kind of roads to nowhere,
but they, they know that they have to get to end point. They only have how many episodes left
to do it? Four. Yeah. Four to do it. Crazy, man. Right. And you're right with, uh, you know,
with, by rushing it, they're just, they have to deliver all the characters being seen and being
part of the end.
Yeah. So if they
throw in, there's going to be several
scenes like that
that they show up and then
there's nothing there. They're just going. Yeah.
It's like you'll have like Magna. All of a sudden out of nowhere.
Do like say a couple lines.
It'll mean nothing. But they got to have all
the characters in the last episodes.
Yes. So okay. So now
so next week, you know, we
get the convoy and we find
out that. So we have
they've got to be, our people have got to all come
together and go back and we're going to waste all our people on saving Eugene really really yeah
i mean i kind of dig that right most be most of our crew would let's be honest our crew that we've built
would kind of like that like this is something rick would not let stand right that's true
he'd be the front line guy going in and be like uh-uh that's our people yeah because even in jail
Eugene is worried about his kidnapped
compadres. I love Eugene. I love Eugene.
The writer for that must have a lot of fun.
Absolutely. Absolutely.
And even if we don't even get all the way back, right?
If we're at a destination to leave
and go be ourselves,
then Mercer could rescue him and meet our people.
Our people don't have to necessarily go back
and burn the Commonwealth down
although I'm willing to have that happen.
I mean, unless we have CRM numbers, like when they killed off that whole university people,
I don't think that we're able to burn down over 50,000 people.
But those people are all, they're done.
They saw a couple of walkers and got scared.
They've been living behind the walls for too long.
I mean, Pamela's got them living like, you know, softness because she's been protecting them.
So if Mercer turns, all those people that have been sitting around, you know, eating ice cream and cupcakes for the past how many every years, they're not even, they don't even know how to kill a Walker anymore.
Oh, man, I just had this image of when you mentioned burning the whole thing down and like, if CRM is involved, they can't allow that to happen because CRM is too successful.
You know, it's too resourceful, 50,000 people.
Right.
They would need it.
So, like, man, like a final, like in the final couple of episodes, like,
CRM rolling in, like, heavy with like a bunch of numbers to stabilize, you know,
to be the stabilizing force so that it doesn't burn down.
And we're installing this new governor of Commonwealth.
Yes, and that's our boy.
And then you just see got his cowboy had it on, not his, but another cowboy head on rolling up.
Awesome.
That would be awesome.
The problem is Maggie will probably become the governor because that's what happens in the comics.
But who cares?
Rick is supposed to, isn't supposed to be alive at this point, but he's going to live.
And Carl used to be alive.
But he's not.
And he comes out, and if that's the end, I'm okay with that.
He comes out and to stabilize everything and stops the war.
And our people just come out of the woodwork after we see Rick.
And it's like, oh, yeah.
It'd be so good.
That would be awesome.
Successful show.
If that does not happen that way, I want it all to burn.
Fail.
All right.
Thanks for listening to Talking Walking Dead.
Jason Buttrill, Maximus Fisher, myself, Jeff Fisher.
Thank you for listening to Talking Walking Dead.
And we will see you next week right here.
Same bad channel.
Same bad time.
I guess it would be Dead Channel.
They're done.
