Season 11, episode three of the final season, episode The Hunted.
That makes this talking walking dead.
Welcome to it.
Myself, Jeff Fisher, Jason Butchell, and Maximus Fisher.
The episode Hunted, Maggie's mission team gets separated and hunted by the reapers.
Carol, Rosita, Magna, and Kelly attempt to catch horses for Alexandria.
And the kids, Judith, RJ, Herschel, and Gracie.
play card games and cope with their parents going away.
Overall, the episode was pretty darn good.
I know, you know, we, I know Max asked me last night,
we don't usually number them, but one to ten, what do you,
what do you rate it?
And so I was like, hey, you know, maybe an eight,
maybe an eight.
Interesting.
I found the episode a bit silly, actually.
Oh, boy.
I'm curious now.
Why might I was the only voice of reason on this podcast?
It's kind of crazy.
It is kind of crazy that you think you are the voice of reason.
You should relabel this podcast to the fanboys, I think.
The fan boys.
The fan boys and him.
All right.
And him.
Go ahead, him.
What's your deal?
This is too much crap that didn't make sense in this one for me.
Like, I dig action, you know, when that's,
happening. I'm always like a fan of that, but
it's got to make sense. And you have
to operate within the laws of reality
on some of these, not the laws of
cartoon land. So
this new group, what's the name of them, Max?
The reapers. The reapers.
So in cartoons,
you'll get like,
the cartoon bad guys will just
kind of fly out of nowhere. They'll just like
drop out of the sky. And then
all of a sudden,
you hear these sounds and every single one
is like a knife for some reason.
all curiously landing at their legs.
So I'm like, are they aiming for their legs?
Because our guys never miss.
And when they throw knives, they hit the head.
So I'm assuming this is like the cheat mode is still on.
And they're actually aiming for legs.
And they're hitting it every single time.
But still, like, this is Negan.
This is Maggie.
You know, these are veteran like fighters that are not going to fall for the,
unless it's cartoon land rules.
And, you know, they can't do anything about it because these guys are falling out of the sky.
and hitting the teleport button and just materializing.
Our guys did do that, though, against the cartoon land people.
I mean, Maggie and Nigan were awesome.
What are you talking about?
When they turned and ran, they, yeah, they were awesome.
Turning around and running.
Nice, nice work, their group.
But like, they had to protect life.
The end scene of the previous episode was them looking down this very cool,
corridor of bodies.
The ominous street.
And they see them coming.
But then all of a sudden, when this starts...
And they disappear.
They hit the teleport button, and they're just like...
That's a good point.
I'm like, you saw them coming a mile away, and now they're just materializing next to you.
I just...
That from the get-go was hard for me to get over, and then it kind of...
Maybe that soured my view of the episode, and then I was just nitpicking the rest of the way.
I don't know what you did in the military, Jason, but what I, you know, back in my day.
Oh, here we go.
We would send, you know, you'd see the people coming at you,
but we had people along the sides, too, on other fronts.
Jeffie, they still, I mean, they wrote a book about your action in Granada,
and it's like, we follow that doctrine to this day.
I didn't even know who Jeffrey Fisher was when I was, like, 22 in the Marine Corps,
and I was like, who is this guy?
It's like a legend.
That's right. Operation Urgent Fury.
Don't mess with me.
Don't do it.
But, oh, Jason, I thought, I figured you'd be happy this episode.
We had Rosita and Magna.
Yeah.
I mean, that was cool too.
I mean, that, okay, that was cool seeing them together, sure.
Yeah.
And I didn't, I didn't actually mind the premise of them going out looking for these horses because, like, I like that kind of scat.
I like it when they go out and scavenge.
I guess because it just feels iconic.
That's what you would be doing.
Yeah.
And that's what the show does.
Correct.
Yeah.
And then they needed the horses, you know, to survive.
I get that.
I even jumping ahead, dug the killing the horse and having to eat.
Because it was just like, I don't know, it was brutal.
And it was just.
real. So I did like that. Right. And we've seen them eat dogs before. And, you know, the kids actually talked about, uh, what's his face, Herschel, Mr.
survivalist out there with Maggie and spiders and bugs and everything else. Because you got to do what you got to do.
Right. Yeah, I like, I like that. But speaking of the kids, right? So, okay, this is my other issue, right? With one of my other many issues.
So they had that one throwaway scene where they're all, and I'm sure you thought it was all cute and stuff,
with her playing the game and
stop it.
We don't want to see Judith in the final season
being this mentor to these stupid kids.
I don't give a crap about that.
I want to see Judith out there.
Put the gun on.
Yeah, put the gun on.
Yes.
Exactly.
How dare you have an episode with Judith
and she's mentoring the kids playing a game.
Don't care parents.
That's the way.
Shut up.
We want to go out there.
We want to see her go out there and kick butt.
She should have been with the group, right?
At least.
Yeah, she should have been with the group
looking for the horses.
I don't disagree with that.
However, they're still trying to let you be a kid as much as possible, right?
I mean, that's even what the kids were saying.
The parents go away, you know, they say it.
They say they'll be back to make them feel better.
But, you know, sometimes, you know, they ain't coming back.
Yeah, I get your point.
I mean, that's reality.
I just don't want to see reality, I guess, in that sense in this.
I want Judith, you know, with the sword and the gun and Rick's gun.
And she has to be, right?
I mean, at some point, um, with Alexandria can't be, you know, the playground for the kids.
Hell, we saw, we saw stuff like that with Carl when, when he was younger.
We saw him just being a kid.
Remember when he was eating that giant tub of pudding.
And then next thing you know, he's storming the, he's storming the sanctuary.
But by the way, he was out scavenging, though, putting, pudding episode.
He was out scavenging.
They were killing walkers and they were going through houses looking for stuff.
And, you know, that was the pudding episode.
He wasn't back home with, I don't know, the other old people at the time playing cards.
Right.
So, you know, I'll give you that.
I understand that.
And you're right, it's closer to maybe what reality would be and we're living outside of the realm of reality.
And some of the show is actually cartoon land according to one person on the show.
I mean, yeah.
And like, I just feel like they're not giving us what we want to see.
And that's why I'm being so critical of it is I want to see.
I want them to meet my expectations in the final season.
Like, we've been saying unleash Negan.
We want to see him get all medieval than they need to be.
Not turn around and run.
But I don't think he's running.
I don't feel like he's running.
I feel like he's trying to save life and, you know, get stronger.
and then attack.
His idea is to gain strength
and then attack.
You don't try to attack
with weakness
because you're going to lose.
And also,
like,
you could see him arguing
these past three,
okay.
You are pissing me off.
I'm not talking about this one,
but you see him arguing
with Maggie these episodes,
and it's hard to see
whose side is right.
Like,
Negan's clearly right,
but Maggie has a point
of not liking him.
She needs to get,
over it. How many? Okay,
we're just going to jump ahead here for a little bit
to the ending scene where they leave
Alden at the church. I thought he was going to die.
You know, and he might, and he still
might die. We don't
know that. We'll see if they
ever go back to him, you know, having
bugs crawl out of his eyes or whatever.
But he's probably going to
be strong enough to at least try to leave,
right, and get killed by walkers.
But when
they left, and
once again, you know,
Negan saves Maggie.
He saved her once and she blew him off.
And then he saves her again in the old Sears building at the mall.
And she's still pissed at him.
And then she goes after him again at the church.
And so when they're walking away, the ending scene was a really cool scene of
Negan with the crowbar and the blood dripping off it after he,
you know, it kills a walker again, saving her.
Raise your hand if you wanted him just to kill her.
her right then.
Just be done with it.
Get over it.
Just put that crowbar
upside her head and be done.
And if not that,
just the threat,
like that would have been
very negat-esque,
you know,
just like a little more menacing
in that look after he did that.
And you know exactly what he was thinking
and she was thinking
that this used to be a bat
and I'm still that guy.
Because she,
I think,
I feel like she did think that.
Yeah,
I do too.
Yeah.
And I mean,
he should,
that would be the time
where,
uh,
you know,
you don't want me to forget who I am?
Okay.
I think Negan wants to,
I mean,
but here's a Negan episode
definitely showed he wants to be somebody else.
Like,
he's still Negan.
Like,
he hasn't,
he hasn't changed that much,
but he definitely isn't the same person
he was back in season seven and eight.
Yeah,
I know,
but he needs to be.
I did,
I thought it was funny,
though.
He's like,
come on,
Maggie,
I'm on your side.
I was like,
well,
you can hardly blame her.
I mean,
you did murder her husband.
And you did abandon her to die while looking her right in the face like a boss and then turning around and going the other direction just a day ago.
You know what I mean?
You know, I want to pardon her, you know, like her, you know, her unwillingness to jump all in.
And then Maggie did the same thing to gauge, by the way.
But Maggie did the same thing to gauge.
Yeah, but it really isn't the same thing because gauge is gone.
So now she's not.
That's kind of a good point.
But never mind.
I don't care.
start bogging me down with your little facts.
That scene, though,
that you just talked about when she
was fighting in that mall
or warehouse or whatever the heck that was.
That was actually kind of cool.
Awesome.
As that, what's that other group called again, Max?
The Reapers.
As the Reaper, thank you.
That's actually starting to really like them because of this scene.
That specifically, it was like dope.
Yeah.
That was cool.
Yeah, and it was a really good move on Maggie's part, too,
I will say, with putting the bottles
on the doors. I mean, that saved her. Right. I mean, obviously, that's why they did it in the show,
because that ended up saving her. But the, you know, it was a good move to put the bottles on the doors
like that. And it was, the mall was kind of cool. The mall seen that whole scene in the old
Sears building was, you know, and by the way, Sears looks like that now. It's not necessarily
a, you know, it, you know, that was a great. That was a cool fight scene. Yeah.
they did that
did the Walker
strung up
that said Judas that was burned
did that happen before that scene or after
that scene?
No, after.
After.
Way after.
Yeah.
They've got to
they got to provide some more
context to the reapers
because they've set them up
to be pretty damn cool.
So I don't know if what's their point?
Like what are they all about?
Like it seems like they just about slaughter.
Yeah.
I think that's next episode.
Yeah, because Daryl gets taken
next episode.
as Daryl does
thank you
as Daryl does
thank you
because we saw in one of the previous scenes
that Daryl is fighting
one of the reapers
who's an excellent fighter
according to the scene we saw
and he looks like he's going
to kill dog
and that is what I think
gets Daryl captured
as he's trying to protect dog
the way they set the reapers up is like they run some kind of ninja academy out there in the woods
and then if you ever kind of stumble on their encampment there's like just a bunch of guys in the
background dressed in black climbing ropes you know and and like training you can't see my
hands but you know they're all doing them one okay you know like punching as the as the master
like teaches them something like that the taliban we've all seen the videos of the taliban training
camp yeah they're just
jumping through hoops of fire and stuff.
Like, because that happens a lot in combat.
You know, you see a hoop of fire.
You got to jump through it and do a roll.
You got to be prepared.
Got to be prepared.
Probably my favorite, one of my favorite parts of this episode, I'm skipping this.
One of my favorite parts of this episode was the Terminator Gabriel.
That was great where he's just walking down that Reaper.
Yeah, that was good.
And Gabriel, you know, struggling with his faith and God isn't here anymore.
I mean, that was pretty good.
Yeah.
So, yeah, that was the other thing I had written down on my note.
was this the thing that didn't make too much sense to me.
So he's like, he's praying, right?
The entire time.
Like, you know, as I walked the valley show, he's praying the entire time.
Then when he gets on the guy that asks him to pray for him, he says, God's not here anymore.
So I'm like, well, who are you just praying to as you were walking up to, I don't know,
maybe that was just me?
Yeah, well, I mean, that's his struggle with his faith right now, right?
I mean, he's had a struggle with that for quite some time.
and he still wants to believe.
But standing in front of this guy who injured him,
who attacked the people that he loves,
he can't forgive him.
I got to say I hate the character at this point.
I really do not like him.
Really?
You don't like Gabriel at this point?
Yeah, and not just because he's got one of my chicks.
It's just the fact that, I don't know,
he's just so wishy-washy.
He has faith when it's easy, doesn't have faith
when it's hard. It's like, shut up, Gabriel.
Get over it, dude. I kind of feel like it is
because of the chick. He's probably a part.
It's probably a part of it. I kind of feel like it is.
I mean, whatever you want to say, however you want to do it,
that's fine. But I'm just
kind of feel that way. Yeah,
the Judas scene in the forest was cool.
Gabriel, I know,
you're,
you're right, he wants the easy faith.
Right? He wants it easy. It's going to
believe when he when he when it's easy and i mean that's that's supposed to be the strength of being a
you know a preacher man right you have the faith even when it's when it's hard that's the point
yeah point right he's supposed to have that i know i feel like he should let him live
and they just walk away yeah just walk away i'm not going to kill you because you know all right
if god wants you to live god wants you to live but i don't i'm just walking away
Right.
And so, you know, I'll, I'll pray for you.
I'll pray for you.
But I don't really want you to live.
Yeah, I get that.
I get that.
I see where.
And so we'll see next week, of course, we, you know,
Darrell gets taken and we're supposed to, according to the,
the IMDB, he gets captured and reconnects taken to the Meridian.
I guess that's the Reaper's training camp.
and reconnect with a familiar
right
did you not remember that's where
that's where
Maggie's old group was she said it was
meridian and then the reapers took it over
all right
no I didn't thank you
any more facts you want to bring me down with her
well I was just trying to say that
that wasn't originally at their base that
that it was where Maggie was held up these past few years
okay so well she will be familiar
then with the with the base
that she knows what what's happening
and we reconnect with a familiar figure from the past.
So I don't know if that person is in charge of the Reapers,
or if we go, if we take, if this whole episode is just that,
it can't be, right?
We've got to go back.
We've got to see our group back at the Commonwealth, right?
Maybe that's what we're talking about.
That was very, very, that pissed me off that we didn't see them at all.
nothing.
Not this episode, right.
This episode was just Negan and Maggie and the horse whispers.
Yeah.
And that was, you know, it was cute.
Oh, we have, I forgot to mention.
We had a mention of Abraham this episode.
Right.
She was walking with Carol.
What's her face?
Rosita.
I'm getting these visions and messages.
And what do you think it means?
I don't know.
Oh, well, thank you.
Thanks for that.
Appreciate it.
I mean, what's the point?
And what's her face?
Your girl,
Magna,
coming, you know,
giving Kelly a hard time.
Get over it.
Shut up.
And plus,
we know that who she thinks is dead,
right?
What's her face?
Connie,
like the full-blown death.
Daryl's one of his girlfriends,
I guess,
now that he's had to.
But Connie is alive.
Yeah, Connie is alive.
He's with,
uh,
Virgil.
No,
no,
Connie's not Commonwealth.
Conny's with Virgil.
the one that drugged up
Michone, remember the orange
backpack dude.
Oh yeah.
That's right.
When you said orange,
I was still thinking of,
Calvin Mercer.
You're still thinking of Mercer.
I got to tell you,
I care so much about what's going on with Connie.
I mean,
that storyline is amazing,
y'all.
I know.
So much tension,
so much feels.
I just care a lot.
We haven't seen her since 1016.
See, and that's the thing with Alden, too, right?
I mean, it was cool to have him struggle, and we're going to leave him at the church.
And it was kind of cool that he was a former Neegan guy.
Yeah.
You know, and he got to talk to Maggie a little bit about, you know, about Negan and all that.
But that was one, there was a great scene when he was fighting the Walker there outside the mall.
Oh, yeah, that was great.
And he, and you could see Negan in the background with that Neegan smile on his face like,
You know, see what you got.
Yeah.
You're going to beat this Walker or what?
I'm just going to let you struggle.
Does I'm not helping your boogey ass?
Right.
How many of us will just be devastated if all of it ends up dying?
How many of us cares?
That's what I mean.
Right.
It doesn't matter.
It's the same with the Connie line.
You know, really, really, really.
Who cares?
Right.
I completely agree with you guys.
I just find it freaking funny because a good chunk of the fan base freaking loves Connie.
and she's one of their favorite characters.
So it's funny seeing you guys in the minority,
including me.
I'm with you guys on this.
Yeah, it doesn't.
They care about Connie?
Oh, yeah.
Connie's one of the new fan favorite characters
in the Walking Dead community.
I'm not joking.
Who is this audience anymore?
Because it's still huge.
We were throwing around articles earlier in the week.
Yes.
Shocking.
Yeah, well, the numbers,
the numbers for cable are, you know, overall down because of, I mean, the way we're watching things now.
But they're still the number one cable show.
And they still are, you know, strong.
And they have, on top of that, you're looking at the streaming numbers with AMC Plus having, I think, I want to say between 6 and 10 million.
and the story that you had sent Jason
that you're referring to is talking about
the on-demand streaming numbers for the show
it's the number one show
you know people people are
downloading it overall
the new season and the older seasons
I mean it's way above all the other shows
so I mean that's
the universe is still strong
maybe
maybe the movies will happen
I don't I think that they've I mean they've clearly got I think a newer audience that they're all in on the the new shows right and so maybe they're I don't know maybe they're curious about the earlier season so that's why they're downloading their yeah but you also got people like us that long for those olden times and they're like saying screw it and they're just like watching from episode one again to get that old feeling back right and that's the point of of having to bring Rick back which we've
said multiple times of having to bring Rick back sometime this season.
So he gains that new audience of being, oh, that's why we love Rick so much.
I think he's going to be in the new season of World Beyond.
But maybe, and that is possible.
Have you seen the trailer for the World Beyond Season 2, Jason?
No, I don't care.
Dude, it's actually a really good trailer and someone pops up at the end of the trailer.
Yeah, your girl.
Trash lady.
Jadis. She's in, she's at the end of the trailer of World Beyond. She's in World Beyond.
How funny. So that's a, you know, that's a tease that, I mean, she's the only one that knows where Rick is, right?
Well, but at least what we think. So she's going to be in World Beyond now as, you know, Anne or James, whatever the heck you want to call her.
So let's see what happens in Season 2 of World Beyond, shall we?
Yeah, this is, you know, obviously, and I know this will, you're going to have to dry your eyes, Jason, but this will be the,
you know, the final episode or the final season of World Beyond.
So,
yes,
World Beyond is only two seasons.
Yeah, take it easy.
Don't get too upset.
But maybe that's how,
you know,
maybe they don't need it.
If they,
if the universe figures,
people are going back and viewing the old stuff,
then they don't have to reintroduce Rick as much as,
as much as I think,
because the audience knows who he is.
Maybe that's what they're living on.
I don't, I don't know.
And like the,
we lost the one lady last night.
was part of the group
and
again she's part of our group and
it was a good kill
the Walker
cromping on her arms and we had to leave her
and that's where Negan pulled Maggie
away trying to save her
but I mean
another character that's like
so
good ridden
she came with Maggie's group
so she's only been here for a few episodes
yeah
oh well
and like we lost the big
guy. No, that was a great scene where he died and Maggie, you know, ice picked him to the head or
knifed him to the head, which you have, you know, you're doing to your loved ones. That was a,
it was a good scene, but we don't care. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, well. And that's what you know, that's
when you saw Negan in the background, like, oh boy, let's get this over with. It's time to go.
They need to stop being so careful with who they kill off. I mean, come on. That's like, we need someone to die
so that we know that they're not cartoon characters.
You know,
there's attention there.
I will throw it back to your cartoon analogy
because the white mask Reaper,
I mean,
he came back,
right?
He survived the fall down the stairs.
Because that's what,
that he was the one that was fighting in the Sears right at the bottom.
So he died anyway,
but he did die anyway,
but.
Or did he?
Right.
Yeah, he did.
No,
he did.
He was on,
He was on talking, he was on the, I'm sorry, the show that comes on after the show in the people who died.
So, yes, he did die.
Okay, so he finally died.
However, as a cartoon character may do, he leaped to his living self after the fall the first time.
Right.
Right?
So it was kind of like, okay, well, he didn't fall all the way down the stairs.
It was just a little bit.
Oh, okay.
Okay, you got me.
Because that was a great scene.
That's in the ninja training, I'm sure, is how to survive impossible falls.
Just hit that teleport button.
If you could not survive a fall down a stairwell of a mall, you're out.
You don't get your certificate to pass Ninja's school for the report.
You're going to become one of the bodies hanging in the walkway.
Those are all the people that failed the drop test.
They're just hanging on old lampposts.
That's right.
All right.
This is talking walking down.
A wrap up,
right?
So we're still,
I mean,
I know you,
you,
you,
uh,
weren't as,
uh,
weren't as happy with this episode as the first couple,
Jason,
but I mean,
we're still looking forward to them,
right?
You're still in.
Oh,
yeah.
Yeah,
it's just,
it's just on these.
I have such a high bar for,
you know,
for,
for everything,
really.
So it's like,
yeah.
And we only have so many episodes left.
Right.
I mean,
we've got to make them count.
Yeah.
Before we go.
I have a question so far.
I know we're not that far into the season yet,
but so far,
how has this season been compared
to the final season of Game of Thrones?
Oh, gosh.
Well, I...
I like...
I'll let you go first.
I know you will because...
Dad's in the minority of the whole fandom
where he actually likes season 8 of Game of Thrones.
I've watched it now twice.
Twice, maybe three times.
but twice for sure.
And up until, I think, episode six or seven,
maybe four or five of the final season,
they could have stopped there on Game of Thrones.
They could have stopped after episode,
I think four or five,
and it would have worked better than what they did.
But it still was okay.
I still enjoyed it.
That was the biggest letdown in TV history for me that season.
And you're,
you're with the crowd on that one I know
the crowd just
hates that final season
okay so you're the rebel
here we got it I am
I am the rebel I haven't
even seen a single episode so I can't hear of it
people bad mouthing season
eight of gay
you bastard all right that's it we're wrapping it
up that's it all right thanks for
listening to Talking Walking Dead
join us here every week as we recap
each episode thanks for coming along
for the ride. Appreciate it. Jason Butchell, Maximus Fisher, and myself, Jeff Fisher. Be sure to subscribe
