Season 11, episode 9 of the beginning of the final season, Part 2, titled No Other Way.
That makes this Talking Walking Dead.
Welcome to it.
Myself, Jeff Fisher, Jason Buttrill, and Maximus Fisher.
Yes, it started part two of the final season.
Episode number nine, the description on IMDB, Hellfire, rains down.
on those at Meridian as every fight with the reapers proves to be a brutal battle at home in Alexandria the violent rainstorm rages on as walkers continue to pour in threatening everyone's safety I will say I enjoyed this episode it was I really enjoyed going back and forth we didn't focus on one place that was fun yeah it was good I couldn't get it out of my mind though that that was the finale to last
parts of the last season that we should have got.
Right.
Right. Like that should have been the very end and we should have picked up where this one ended.
I would have been a lot happier, but I'm not going to complain about the content.
Like if we got that break right as Daryl takes off the helmet and you see it's Daryl and then that's the break we got.
That would have been cool.
Beautiful.
Beautiful.
Yeah.
That would have been perfect.
Yeah, I know.
The time jump would have been great.
I don't know why they didn't do that.
However, Jason, you did get what you wanted.
The Reapers are no more.
Yeah, finally. Jeez.
Well, I mean, kind of that one chick's still alive.
But we knew we knew Daryl was going to keep her alive. We all knew it.
Maggie gets, has three shots, two of them great head shots and misses her. Come on now.
Yeah, come on.
Come on now.
Were you guys? Okay, you guys probably were not.
But I was completely taken off guard that it was starting yesterday.
I had no idea. I mean, I knew just from talking to you guys because we were like,
Hey, a couple weeks, you know, coming back.
I know.
But I didn't, usually I see something on Twitter.
I see something on, you know, like a buildup.
Like usually there's like an entire week where it's like, get ready, you know, in a world.
Yeah, like, there was none of that.
I think AMC were just like, you ready?
Here's it.
Here it is again.
Yeah, I feel like, I mean, I saw the last couple days, I saw promos for it.
And I thought, just me being an idiot, is that it was talking about.
it was going to start on AMC Plus this week.
And the AMC show that, you know,
we provide Talking Walking Dead after would be next Sunday.
And then, you know, Max is like, no, it's this week, dummy.
Yeah, it's already on AMC Plus.
And he was like, no, it's not.
And then I checked.
And I was like, no, no, it is.
And so, I mean, it was really weird.
And that, after I, after that, and that was, you know, a couple days ago,
amazingly, when I talk into my phone, I get ads.
I don't know how that happened.
and so then I started getting ads for it
and I realized it but I kind of feel like maybe
and I think you know
Max kind of teased it a little bit
I feel like AMC is like well you know we're going to throw this
we're not going to spend a lot of our marketing dollars
of this middle part of the final season
and we'll spend it going into the last segment
the final episodes that does make a lot of sense
yeah it's just kind of sad though
because like the beginning of a new Walking Dead season was always like an event.
You know what I mean?
The beginning of a new season technically.
Well, but it is though, you know?
It is.
We've had a break.
I mean, sure they're doing this whole strategy of doing a trilogy for the finals.
Whatever.
But I mean, it's the way they're doing it, it should be like season eight or season not, you know, like the beginning of the season.
It should be.
The hype train should be like that.
And it's just the season's winding down.
And it's like they're treating it that way in marketing, which is really depressing.
It is.
But hopefully that I'm right and that they're just going to, they only have so much money these days.
It's not like the old days.
The money's kind of, they've had to spend a few dollars on some lawsuits.
And so they're, you know, they're kind of backing off on the way to we've cut a little bit of the marketing.
And we're going to use it for the final part of the final season.
Yeah.
The last eight episodes are here.
Yeah.
And we'll spend all the money for that.
I mean, I hope that's the case.
If it's not, holy cow.
I got to tell you, I don't know how much I'm going to be able to talk about this episode content-wise.
Because the entire thing, like, it was a blur to me.
And all I saw was Lauren Cohen, like, in slow motion with, like, Dreamweaver playing in the background.
That's all I saw.
That's all I noticed.
It was so funny when you texted me.
how hot was Maggie
I had already written down
like 10 minutes before that
in my notes
Maggie looks so hot
I was like what did they do?
I know
you too
I mean it was that
oh my gosh a couple of those fight scenes
I see my I was just like
what are they doing?
I know like screw all the other
spin-offs you know like the
Daryl and Carol power hour
whatever they're going to do.
I was just having that.
Just have Maggie.
That's all you need to do.
That would be an awesome spin-off.
I'm going to say something I might really upset you, though.
If the Terrell and Carol show isn't just a ruse to get people thinking Daryl isn't going to die in the finale, which I still have that theory, I really do.
If it is happening, I am 90% sure that Connie will be a part of that show.
I will not be a part of this podcast for that.
I'm just saying.
I'm just saying you don't want to be depressed the entire time we didn't listen to this.
It's like, couldn't do it.
Oh my gosh.
I know.
By the way, the reunion with Daryl and Connie was very loved by the community.
Was it?
Yes.
It was just beautiful, wasn't it?
Like, you two, I know we're not one of them, but you guys have to, you have to face the facts.
I mean, when he spilled the apples and it was just so exciting.
Wasn't it wonderful?
Yes.
That is, that is, you do have to face the fact that she is a liked character among the community.
Is she?
Yes.
But another fact that we have to face is the original OG Walking Dead crowd doesn't watch anymore.
Just us dumbasses are the only original ones still watching.
There are still some.
I mean, it feels that way that we're hanging on.
We're the old school.
We want the old school stuff.
that's gone. Yeah.
I mean, last night's episode was actually, you know, a lot of old school.
There was some good stuff in it. They really was some good stuff in it.
We got some Negan.
Negan was great in this episode. We got Negan going away, right?
They started, they went along a little bit, brought back a little bit of the comic books so that they, you know, they could, they broke away from that with the time jump.
What's her face? Angela Kang said the show that follows that can't go into the studio right now because it's, it's one of
be safer. Hardwick said that.
I just wanted to be safer in the next few weeks.
Not Kang. Hardwick. Hardwick said that.
No, I know. She was on the show. That's what I said.
Yes, but it sounded like you were saying Kang said that, which you didn't.
Kang spoke of the show that follows Walking Dead.
Yes.
That could do a live show in studio.
There you go. I know. That's what I said.
Now, she said that there's going to be more time jumps.
That's one of the things that she teased in
and, you know, she gives away very little.
She's, you know, good at her job.
But she talked about there's going to be more, you know,
shorter time jumps like the six months and bigger time jumps in the future show.
It also seems like next week from what we could tell was a continuation of last,
of before the time, this time jumped.
So it's like them getting into the Commonwealth.
I looked like they were already there.
It did somewhat from that sneak peek.
So a couple of things.
The Talking Dead, I mean, guys, stop pretending that it's pandemic related.
We know it has nothing to do with the pandemic.
Every effing late night show in L.A. is in person, right?
They're back to normal.
There's nothing different.
So stop pretending it.
And what makes it even more insulting is we know it's like a marketing thing with AMC Plus.
you're right on the money there with that jeffy we know that's the case yes so shut your lying effing
mouths and they've actually they did actually up the production for it so i mean it's absolutely that
funny thing is hardwick did say they are coming back to the studio in a couple episodes uh-huh yeah
the first the first time they did that it was so hilarious like hardwick didn't even have a mic
remember it sounded like he was in his bathroom it was like the world was falling apart and he was
like, you know, reporting live as the bombs are dropping, you know, like, it was like, it was so funny.
But yeah, the production value.
And, and I actually watched the first, I would say, 15 minutes because Lauren Cohen looked even more hot on that show.
Does I have to do with everything with you too?
Oh, my gosh.
But holy crap.
She's like getting hotter with age.
It's nuts.
Anyway, the second thing, you said we got a little Negan.
when did Nigen stop being like the total badass that everyone was afraid of?
So like, yeah, his demeanor has changed, but a hand-to-hand fight was instantly...
I know.
I said, I was sitting it.
I don't know that I put it in my notes, but I said, because I...
You did say, like, I was getting old, Neen.
I know, I said it when we were talking.
I didn't put it in my notes because I was more concerned about writing Maggie looks so hot.
But, uh, the, uh, Negan, I was like, dude's getting old, man.
Can't take a fight anymore?
What's going on?
I know when he showed up in that hallway.
I was like, oh, it's over.
I was like, oh, it's over.
I was like, they're going to toy with him.
This guy's going to kick the other people's ass.
That one dude, Maggie, he's going to kick their ass.
And then Negan just to come in just demolish him.
Just ram the pole through his throat and be done.
Well, actually, what?
What happens?
I think about it.
We have a trained soldier.
I was like, he got a bolt.
I know.
Well, Negan did defeat him.
Negan did knock him out with the bell.
Ding, ding, ding, people.
Yeah, we did get the ding in the end.
But he, it's not.
I expected the pole through the guy's throat and just him to look at Maggie going,
what are you doing? I got this.
Well, the thing is, if we're being realistic here, he's a gym teacher.
It's a zombie show.
We're not meeting this.
I don't care.
I don't care. It's Negan.
Yeah, it's neat.
I don't care.
He was supposed to have won without getting, without getting beat up and thrown against the wall a couple of times.
Yeah.
Yeah, I'm with him.
He look like me now when I get up out of my office chair.
And I'm like, you make a noise, you know, and when you sit down, you're like,
ah, you hear a crack in your back.
I don't want to see that from me.
Come on.
I don't know when that day is going to start for me, but I hope it doesn't happen soon.
I'll tell you that.
Jocke's it.
Look at you people.
I'm getting old.
Oh, yeah, I know.
Maximus turns 20.
I'm turning 20 next week.
I'm getting old.
That's crazy.
I know.
So then we get back to Alexandria and the flood, and that fight was okay.
I was a little disappointed that Aaron didn't die.
I mean, he liked.
I should say that.
I wanted him to die.
I don't.
I like Aaron.
I've always liked Aaron.
Kill somebody.
I want somebody to die.
I mean, all we got was Alden died.
Alden, right, at the church.
Which we knew he was going to die.
I mean, they left him at the church to die.
I know they had the, you know, that half hope of, okay, maybe he's.
will survive, but really, we locked him in the church to die. That's why we left him there.
Well, actually, from what it looked like, a Reaper actually tracked him down and killed him.
Oh, boy. Don't bug me down with facts. We left him in the church to die. That's what we did.
Even though another Reaper, even though a Reaper was in there? Yes. Yes, that's, even though
that happened. He was going to die regardless. Yes, absolutely.
I like that, yeah, the, I don't know it, it seemed like a classic, I like it when they do,
like, classic zombie movies. And that's what it felt like to me.
like zombies trying to get into the house
you know getting spread up it felt good
like that's they should do more
then we had the basement scene with Judith
and uh yeah well that was all part of that
house right the old zombie movies and trying
to get out yeah that do that was fun
and we had some good deaths
you know in that battle
uh down in the basement you know and I think
the the one
walker that had his head squished I think that
was Niccatero
really yeah because he talked about how
excited he was that he that he that he
had practiced in his pool for that pool scene.
So I think that was him.
Yeah.
There was a lot of good scenes right there.
And then the final Aaron Kill when he squished his head and the eyeball popped out.
Yeah, that's the one.
I think that's Nicotero.
Yeah, that was really good.
That was dope.
And there, yeah, there was some good ones.
And it was fun watching them again.
It was, you know, it was old time, you know, huge walkers rolling down the stairs and coming up out of the water.
That was fun.
And then you had Aaron.
climbing up on the plumbing pipe.
The only thing with that whole scene is like, so Judith was she got a few kills in.
I want to see them really unleash her more because again, our time is very short.
I just want to see Judith being a badass.
Me too.
She lost her sword in the water and stuff.
That pissed me off.
I know, man.
I know.
Come on.
I want to see her save the day, not Aaron save the day.
Yes.
At least both, at least a little bit of both, right?
Not for sure.
I don't want her to be the little kid.
kid. Let's move on. She's grown up now. She's a little, she's a kid that's been around death their whole
life. Let's move on. Yeah. Yeah. She needs to be the one at charge. It's a minor criticism because again,
the action was good. It's just like, this is just like the, I guess the, you know, the things we would
like to see going forward for it. And then, uh, then Lydia saved Aaron. Yeah. Yeah. I mean,
that was, we got, we got to save. And that's how we saved Aaron, which was fine. And I was, you know,
Oh, he's not going to die.
Darn it.
Am I the only one that likes Aaron?
I like Aaron, and he's fine, but, you know, darn the luck if we lose him.
I mean.
He's like one of the perfect characters that if he dies, it'll kind of be a shock, I think, at this point.
But I think we need that.
And he's not like one of the...
He's been with us in season five.
Which is why it would be a shock, right?
But, oh well.
Yeah.
And then it just shows that some of the other characters aren't safe, which,
At this point, I feel like all the characters are safe every single episode.
And I know.
I'm still wondering who's going to get Dwight's comic death.
I'm really curious who's going to get Dwight's comic death.
I mean, what happened to him?
He was actually, they were all, him, Rick and Michone, they were in the Commonwealth,
and they were deciding what's happening with it.
And when all that was happening, Dwight did not like it there.
He was just like, we need to get out of here.
but Michone and Rick didn't agree with them
and when they were talking
Commonwealth soldiers came in
and he was like are you guys sending me up and something happened
and Michone killed him
Michelle shot him right in the head
well I mean Michelle's gone
right yeah
Dwight's on fear
so
I mean maybe we get somebody's
death I mean this is what next week
if they're going to be in
the Commonwealth right
they showed them
at the little amusement park
fair inside the Commonwealth and it was such a stark difference of our people after battling
through the storms and going to find food and here comes the you know the the salesman for
commonwealth here comes Lance Hornsby and he's just talking to our group and he's in that
slick gray suit right and it's so strange you know I've and you know I know what's his face
you know Eugene was the hero you know by saving the
day and we're getting
Commonwealth there.
But is he?
Izzy?
Brought a whole other problem.
Yeah.
Yeah, a whole other problem.
And I don't know how much,
I mean,
the Commonwealth,
that's going to be a big battle
for our people.
Yeah.
You don't,
here's the thing.
You don't win
against the Commonwealth.
So I think they're going to
try to do what they did
in the comics and turn it over
from the inside.
The weird thing about the Commonwealth
still is just the added,
thing on top of CRM.
Because it's like in the comics,
it was like the Commonwealth was like the big bad.
Now it's like the common is,
are they really now though?
Because the CRM just,
I mean,
Commonwealth just seems like they're one of them.
I mean,
to CRM,
it seems like they're kind of minor, right?
It seems that way,
for sure.
Because Commonwealth in the comics has,
I believe,
about 25 to 30,000 people in it.
Okay,
but they're going to,
They're going to little festivals and fair rounds and getting face painted, and CRM is flying in with helicopters and bombing people.
Well, that's their military. We still have no clue what the Civic Republic is.
Am I wrong on that?
Yeah, I mean, it's just like the U.S. government.
I mean, we've got our military.
Their military is a little bit more authoritarian, but the civic republic is just the leadership, you know, the leadership.
you know, this, the elected leadership of the same thing.
So it's just, it's the same thing.
It just felt like CRM was stronger than what, what the Commonwealth is portrayed as.
Right.
But, you know, we'll see.
I know it's over.
And we lose Deegan, right?
He goes away.
Well, he's coming.
Well, we know he was in the trailer for next episode or this season.
Like, and.
Yeah, he's still in the trailer for this, for this.
section, right? But I don't know how much we're going to get of them.
Yeah, because here's the thing. In, like, I don't know how, like, I'm kind of okay with it, because
in the comics, he wasn't in the Commonwealth storyline at all. He exiled. He got exiled. So this is
kind of them just going, okay, bye. Right. This is their nod to them. Yeah. To the comics, right?
Negan is exiled. Only he exiled himself in the show. And so, you know, I get that. But we've
changed, I think we've talked about this before, we've changed several things as far as the
comic book timeline and Negan, I think, should have been one of those things that we changed.
Then leave him there.
The weird thing about Negan, and this kind of goes back to them, kind of diminishing how good
of a fighter he was and all that stuff.
Now he's kind of, his character's kind of diminished to like just giving one-liners every
once in a while and just
I guess being
like a kind of like a
to show Maggie what she's turning into
what he used to be.
That's kind of it.
Like that was interesting when
when they had that final
you know fight where she ended up shooting the
the what are they called?
The reapers.
Yeah, the reapers. Yeah.
I remember she looked at him and goes,
Negan and Negan was like, you know what my answer would be.
You know what I think.
It would be to kill him.
you know that yeah he's very pragmatic and then she followed his you know his line of thinking so it's
kind of weird they're they're showing i can't i can't tell if they're it's a warning that if you
stay on this path you're going to end up being the person you hate the most or if they're just
showing she's smart i don't know yeah especially now that nigan uh goes away because right he he
he confronts her at the gravesite he shows you
up after he's not helping her dig the hole. And so he shows up after he bears,
after she buries Alden and says, you were always going to do what you were going to do.
You know, you're going to kill me. You want to kill me. So I'm out. Yeah. Have a nice day.
And it carries a lot more weight because Negan's like, I would kill me. And so now he's like,
you're basically like I was. So you're going to kill me. He knows. And he's done his best up to now
to prove that, look, I sure I would kill me, but I'm going to
go ahead and play your game and I'm going to save my life by playing your game and being with you.
I'll do that.
And he did, which is so weird that Daryl and Maggie, I guess I felt like they didn't see it.
They never saw it.
Well, yeah, and obviously Daryl never didn't agree with what Maggie did, obviously.
Yeah, I don't know.
I just feel like they should have given me a little slack.
But I'm okay with him with the time.
want him to be part of the show is all.
That's work. You know,
and he's not going to be.
Lydia was not happy.
They said,
Negan left, and she's like, what?
I know.
Lydia was not happy.
I know, that's her boy.
Maybe she goes and finds him, though,
that maybe Negan, you know,
has a little Lydia business out of the world.
She's a kid.
That's the end of the world, bro.
Yeah, she's a kid.
You might want to cut this out.
Lydia's not a little kid
She's a young woman
My gosh
What are you talking about
What's the actress's name
Hold on
Let's check this
But she's not a little kid
There's no way
In real life
She's even older than what they're portraying her
I think on Walking Dead
And then we have
So then we
Okay
Why you guys look that up
And no problem
but prove that I'm correct.
It's fine.
I did enjoy that, you know,
when we did get to the time jump,
and Maggie was at,
we saw Maggie at the hilltop,
right after, you know,
they're back at the hilltop,
not at Alexandria.
21.
Like I said,
thank you.
She's not a little good.
Like I said.
Close one.
Go ahead.
No.
Maybe you didn't.
You know,
it's the end of the world.
Except Negan won't do that and we know this.
So, but we know that they were at Alexandria and then we have, we show Maggie back at Hilltop
with Darrell as a stormtrooper. Weird. Weird. Really weird look. Now here's the question
some people thinking, do you think he is, I believe in what the Commonwealth are doing or do you think
He's double agenting.
Double agenting.
Yeah, it has to be double agency.
That was made to look shocking.
It did look shocking, but they did a big job of really making that a spectacle.
It's got it.
Just imagine he is being serious.
I know we all think it's double agent, but just that little part of me is going,
I think it might be them going to full on.
He thinks the Commonwealth is the weight of the future.
But he buys in?
Yeah.
And the clip that they showed, the preview clip that they showed, the preview clip that they
showed on, you know, the show that comes on after,
it showed Daryl going through the little haunted house with the kids
and being like a little father guy and okay, that's enough
and fist pumping the other Commonwealth guy.
So it's possible that he buys it, right?
They change his character to buy it into the Commonwealth.
And you can see in the background, Ezekiel's running a petting zoo.
And I liked Gabriel.
Oh, yeah, we got to mention Gabriel.
We got to mention Gabriel.
me Gabriel. I mean, I like
to call me Gabriel. He killed
the Reaper preacher. I'm all
about it. It was awesome. Terminator.
Yeah. I know.
Gabriel has changed so much this show.
I know. The Reaper preacher was like, you don't hear him
anymore. You don't talk to him. I thought he was winning him
over for a second. I thought
he was bringing him back to being able
to listen and talk
to God again, but
dup. Yeah. Apparently, there
was an alternate take of the scene where
the actor who played the
Reaper Preacher actually wanted to do
I think they filmed it
but they didn't add it in the show because they thought it
just didn't work was where
he when Gabriel came in
the Reaper Preacher actually get up and hug Gabriel
and going welcome friend
and then continue the conversation as it went
right yeah
another scene that they shot that they left in the show
was the one that was the best no question
I agree with that
yeah and it was just strange
that I mean
with Gabriel
going to ever come back to God?
Is Commonwealth going to let him do that?
I don't know.
I don't think so.
I don't think so at all.
So anyway, we have seven more episodes, right,
through April 10th of part two of the final season.
And then nobody knows exactly when part three is going to start,
but they still have a 2022 tag on it.
so I'm guessing it's supposed to be later this year
my guess it's either going to the show as in Walking Dead will end next February or this
December I mean if it ends now and they already promoted the new fear last night
so after this you get fear and then maybe you start building up the press for the final
walking dead
and you bring in the audience for that.
You have to.
I mean, my gosh, if you don't do that, what are you doing?
It's a big disservice to the entire how many years is going on.
It sure is.
Because I think it's still technically the number one show on cable.
I think it still is.
I feel like we'll see what the numbers bear out, but I feel like Yellowstone beat that out.
With the numbers.
Anyway, it doesn't, I mean, it's obviously always one of the top shows on cable, no question.
But it definitely does a disservice.
If we don't promo the heck out of it.
Oh, I agree with that.
They should, like, at least the final part of this, they should promo the hell out of it.
And if we still believe, which I do not, that we're going to have the movies and everything, they have to.
Which is, I mean, if you believe in that, it is surprising that they didn't promote the second half.
Maybe they're putting that budget into the movies.
Because, I mean, they've got to sell these.
If you believe they're still having the movies, which I do not because why.
Nobody knows who these people are anymore.
Rick is, you know, I know he still has name recognition at the comic cons,
but for an audience of movies, I don't know.
I don't think that's happening.
Anyway, it's just me.
All right.
Talking Walking Dead.
Final thoughts, Mr. Batro?
It got me, it was good. It got me wanting to watch the next episode, which I haven't felt that way in a while.
So, yeah, I'll probably watch it tonight, actually, because I'm looking forward to it.
Oh, geez.
I thought it was a good episode. The action was really good. The camera work was great.
I genuinely thought that ending twist was surprising, and I think they might go a different direction than we think.
I don't think, in general, the Commonwealth is going to be as bad as we think it is, but not
good either and other than that I'm really excited to see where this show goes I
thought the episode was great I loved the the round robin of the different
neighborhoods that we went to throughout the whole show and I believe that
hopefully Maggie will wash that sweater that she was wearing and wear it again
and again and again and Jason a little thing for you there was a Gabriel
Rosita moment at the end oh yeah I did think of you yeah at the very end that was
but it was after it was after we were
so agonized by Daryl and
what's her face.
I was hardly paying attention to all
that. It's just so uninterceptive.
I was like, whatever. They're back
and they're hugged. That's a wonderful thing.
We're all happy.
Everybody lived except for Alden.
Oh, well, darn the luck.
And then, oh,
here's Commonwealth. Now we've got to worry
about that. I know. So we'll
talk to you all next week on
