Season 2, Episode 5, the Walking Dead universe, Daryl, the Book of Carol.
The show description, Daryl's journey across a broken but resilient France,
as he hopes to find a way back home.
This episode, entitled Vaudiers Cepaure.
Translation is Where There's a Will, There's a Way.
Couldn't they just title it that?
Think about it, though.
Voire Cipave.
Welcome to Talking Walking Dead.
This is Talking Walking Dead.
Welcome to it.
Myself, Jeff Fisher, Jason Butchell, Maximus Fisher.
Daryl, episode five, only one episode left.
So we're action-packed in every episode.
This episode was pretty good.
Another pretty good Daryl episode.
There are a couple of things that I have that I question, you know, like, okay, come on.
But it was, it was enjoyable Daryl.
episode for me. Jason?
Yeah, no, yeah. I'm enjoying
all these episodes, including
the first scene where it was just kind of like
a slow motion, you know, like on Darrell's face.
It was just kind of dramatic. They just shoot this
differently. He's looking rough too, man.
He is.
He's looking bad.
But it's evident
it's evident they take more time
and care with the Darrell episodes.
I don't know why, but they really get the cinematography
for your eye and it's just really good. I will take
issue though. I never really
paid attention to this until you just read the
description in the intro.
But as Daryl makes his way
through a broken
and resilient France,
I'm not
seeing the resilient part.
I really not.
It looks worse than back home,
and there's just a bunch of like
girl bosses that are union heads of
you know,
custodians taking charge.
And I'm like,
let's be fair.
We've covered this crowd last week.
The tunnel club is great.
Degan was a teacher.
Come on.
Egan was just a teacher.
I mean, we've got full-on communities back home that have militaries and electricity.
I know.
I mean, the king was a zookeeper.
Let's not get two carried away.
Okay, to be fair, I think we could all agree.
The people who are living the best live are the tunnel people.
Yeah, the underground.
Yeah, the underground group.
They're a busy party in a way.
It's awesome.
Oh, are you talking about the Moulon Rouge area?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
With another girl.
I know.
She took over.
She took over after,
uh,
Laurent's dad got killed.
Through what force of will?
I wonder.
Just because she was there?
Yes.
She was that it.
Yes.
And she's,
and she's badass too,
because they start questioning her.
Her favorite line.
She was like, uh,
uh,
excuse me,
uh,
that sounded like you were,
uh,
sharing an opinion.
Yeah.
Okay.
Dad loved that line.
Opinion, opinion guy looked at her like he wanted to kill her.
Why did he not?
Why did he not?
That sounded like you were trying to express an opinion?
Was it because the chick that just insulted him was standing there in a real scary black leather jacket and a baseball bat wrapped in?
I know.
And get this.
So we went from and we're skipping a lot.
I know we're skipping a lot.
We'll get back to, we'll get back to covering the ground.
We're talking about the girl.
losses. So we've got her in charge of the underground, you know, with,
it sounded like you were trying to express an opinion. And then we have, we didn't kill the
Nests'est's second in command, badass chick. Yeah, the cleaning girl. No, cleaning girl is the,
she's not cleaning girl, but, well, the servant. She was one of the servants under, under,
she was the second in command of, uh, of Asian, remember? She was Miss, uh, Miss, Miss, uh, Miss, Miss,
military chick so we didn't kill her and she's still alive she's going to be in charge of
Jeanette's people now.
Genet.
You know she is.
I'd tell you what.
If you're a badass group in the United States, take the boat over to France.
You'll take over in like 30 minutes.
That's what's going to happen when Darrow gets back.
Daryl's going to get back and they're going to go, we should just go to France.
I know it's made.
It's wide open over there, guys.
Let's go take it.
It's ours.
We should go over there.
Keep the club open.
Keep the club open.
Yeah, keep the club open, though.
That's Darrell's season three, the overtake of France.
I would watch that.
I would too.
I would too.
Daryl wants to just take over.
We're just going to run France during that.
It's like,
could you imagine, yeah, like the group that Rick took to go take down the
saviors in the very, like when they first was going on.
Yes.
Like that group would instantly take over Europe, probably over.
Yes.
And France is what the size of a state?
We could take that thing over.
The only issue that they would have is with the super walker juice.
That's the only issues they would have.
Yeah, but we just control the scientists.
We've already got that.
That's no problem.
That's not a problem.
Ah, the Superwalkers.
Okay, I can't wait until we get to that part.
Maybe I shouldn't skip out.
That was awesome.
Okay, let's skip that.
So when you shoot up a Walker with this stuff, they instantly turn to the Tasmanian devil.
Yeah, they turned around.
That's what, first of all.
We've seen that before.
Well, that's what Jeanette, the
janitor, the head of the janitor's union,
had been training, had
been setting up the scientists for it, to build
the Walker juice to turn them into
soldiers for her.
Like, but little Tasmanian
devils? Yeah, that's what it was.
You've seen this before. This isn't a new thing.
That's what it was. Yeah, they used
remember they used about Daryl?
This was in season one too.
Yeah, they had the different bits.
All of them.
Have they ever attacked other Walker?
and split them in half.
Yeah, when they used them when they attacked the nest, too, right?
Yeah, they showed a lot of different things.
That's what they were going to shoot Carol with.
They were going to shoot Carol with it.
They were going to shoot Carol with it.
That did, for some reason, didn't make it through her leather jacket or something.
Right, but the day, I don't ever remember them attacking other walkers.
Eh?
Huh?
Like, this group didn't care.
They just started spinning and exploding all the other walkers and splitting them in half and chopping their heads off for no reason.
Do be fair.
It was a cool scene, though.
I guess.
I was like, I don't know.
Yeah, that's a good point, though.
Now that I'm thinking about it.
What purpose did that serve for those Super Walkers?
I'm thinking about it with a clear mind post show.
I don't know that they had ever attacked Walkers before, right?
They were just attacking the living.
They were attacking the walkers to get to the car.
That is the, that is the explanation.
Oh, yeah.
There you go.
There you go.
They were attacking the, they were killing the,
the sad slow walkers
to get the car.
Yeah, that's what they were doing.
Because it was, I tell you, it was fun
to see Daryl and Carol
working in tandem
killing walkers again.
That was fun.
I do enjoy that very much.
It was good to see them back together again.
When he said, are you ready?
And she was like, yep.
And they just start lighting.
Yeah, that was great.
That was awesome.
That was cool.
Yeah, I know.
That was really awesome.
No question.
Okay, so back to the beginning,
because we skipped a ton
Ash is stuck in the car
Yeah I mean
Ash leaves
So he runs away
He had
He built up
I guess Carol was gone
For I don't know
A year
Because he built up a whole safety zone
Where his plane was
Where Ash Air was
About a week or two
I said it
I know yeah
The movie traps are cool
I mean that's what he was using
At his place too right
Yeah he built
At his place
Back in the Americas
Before Ash Air went international
And so he'd
Bill had the safe zone, but they came to, you know, get the plane and get the gas and take him.
So he takes off.
And he ends up at the, at the Jeanette's place, the military compound, you know, underground there, where they had taken Daryl.
And that's where they end up finding him.
I loved this with when Daryl and Carol show up and they walked down that glass jail cell of all the walkers, is he in there?
Yeah.
Dale just doesn't get you in there?
Take a look.
Just look at them.
Getting them all riled up.
That was good.
And then you see the car, you know, swarmed with walkers.
There's something alive in there.
Yeah.
You know what cracked me up was this is a little, again, it's just the little things with Daryl.
But that scene you're talking about, that little glass wall of walkers, as Daryl was leaving and they were going to check out the car.
Did you notice that he gave another, like, slap?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Just to like kind of screw with them.
Yeah.
Because that works them all up.
They were just kind of starting to half kind of calm down.
He just gave another tap.
So the little things like that are why the core group of characters are so much better.
Yes.
They're just so much better than these like bland robots that they have in the newer shows.
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
Yeah, I can't deny that.
It was really good.
So, you know, Laurent is, of course, the, you know, symbol of hope.
Laurent was great in this episode.
I loved Laurent in this episode.
Yeah, I mean, he's, yeah.
I mean, he's the savior, and he's still, you know, still a kid.
And Darrell knows that.
So, you know, he doesn't want to go because everything he,
he doesn't want to go to America because everything,
every person that he loves is dad.
And, you know, Daryl says it's up to you,
but he really talked him into going, you know,
just like an adult who went to a kid.
So, I mean, that, that was, that was fine.
I get that.
I liked when they ended up, when they first showed up at the,
What's the group home?
What's the halfway house that they all?
Yeah, we've seen it before.
I can't remember the name.
I know.
What do they call that?
The one that, you know, with that, uh, uh, what's his face?
The black guy.
Yeah, he didn't die.
I told you he didn't die.
Yeah, no, he didn't.
I like him a lot.
What's his stupid name?
Gosh, darn.
Yeah, I know.
I, uh, because Loseang is the monk from the nest, which, you know, sorry to see him go.
Then, uh, but the, uh, but the, um, but the,
The black guy who's, we met him in the very beginning, Falu.
Falu, yeah.
Falu, yeah, Valu Bukar is the, as the guy that's with the group home, the halfway house people.
I don't know what they're called.
They used to be with, they were in, like, communication with the nest and the nuns,
and then obviously the nuns died.
They wanted to get Laurent to the nest, and then we all see how that turned out.
Yeah, well, I mean, the new, the dickhead monk, Lossang, he's, you know, now in charge of the, of the, of Jeanette's people, of he's in charge of the janitors now.
I love how you call the military group the janitors now.
And so he's busy running around to all the places he doesn't need to be going.
Goes to the halfway house and then he goes to the underground.
and all in search of Laurent
because I mean everybody believes that he is the
you know he's the one he's the hope for the future
which you know that's been the premise of Laurent
from the very beginning
I loved Laurent this whole show
and I just think when his actor is great
and almost every scene he's in is genuinely really good
they still should have had him say that he was Sophia
just so there would have been no drama and he could have gotten
That wasn't have worked.
I kept telling you.
No drama had been fine.
I don't think that there would have, I don't think that they needed to do that.
I think Carol should not, Carol definitely should not have told Ash.
Okay. So, after we saved Ash, what are we doing?
She told me.
I mean, he was better than that.
I mean, even Darrell was like, originally Darrell said, well, you need to tell him.
But then when he found out what the lie was and he was, you know, just like, let's, let's just get out of here.
Because Daryl and Carol, I love their honesty with each other, knowing each other, and everything is just, it is what it is.
You know, everybody has their secrets and their lies, but as long as they know what each other's is, we're good.
Yeah.
And I still have, I don't know.
There's almost in every episode I can pick a thing out that just seems really uncharacteristic of Carol, or something that I just can't really explain.
And one of them in this episode,
and it was when they were back looking for ash
at that janitor compound.
And she found that recording.
Oh, yeah, the tape deck.
It's good that the tapes,
the batteries were still working, but go ahead.
Oh, that was from, remember, that was from,
that tape deck.
It must have been the batteries from the radios.
That tape deck that Jeanette stole,
what we saw in episode one of Daryl,
yeah, season one.
And the batteries for the flashlight
that they're using down in the totals, man.
Those things are badass flashlights.
Also from the two-way radios.
That's, yeah.
There must be Elon Musk like batteries.
Absolutely.
Star Lake still orbiting.
Starlink.
Yeah.
But why did she keep it?
Why didn't she say,
Hey, I found your recording something.
Why'd she keep it and keep it quiet?
Oh, yeah.
She just deep pocketed it.
Right.
She didn't say anything about it at all.
See?
I don't, I'm like, what?
This doesn't make sense.
like next episode's the season finale.
Yeah, I know, only six episodes for season two.
It's got to be very sad.
But you're right, I don't know why.
I don't know why.
Is she going to, they're going to wait for their plane ride on Ash Air for her to go,
aha.
That's what I've had.
Yeah.
What?
I know.
This?
I don't know.
I think, from the trailer of last episode, the ending of this episode,
with, spoiler alert, with Ash, basically saying,
hey, four people aren't going to fit in this thing and take off.
Yeah, well, he's pissed.
He's pissed, but.
Because he's, I think that comes down to where him being pissed at Carol,
and he's just saying, nah, y'all can't go.
We can't fit all of us in.
And as a matter of fact, we can't fit Carol in, oh, well, let's go.
But I think my theory could be correct that Carol will die in the next episode.
I think my theory may be correct.
I'd be fine with it. I really would.
I mean, I think I said last time, but I think it's time to start putting some of these characters to bed in a good way.
So do we think that, do you think that Carol is going to die and that Daryl, Laurent, and Ash fly internationally and go back to America?
Yes.
I believe that is how it's going to go.
But that screws up the Daryl show.
True. We don't know.
But they never said we're getting, we don't know if they're getting a season three or not.
Well, there's no way they don't give us a season three.
What do you kid mean? These shows have been great for them.
And he can't go back to Alexandria.
He can't because the show's over, right?
Unless they're bringing back to all those actors.
Well, okay.
She said, she said it's been 12 years since Sophia died.
12 years since Sophia lied. That was in season one or two, right?
Two, okay.
We know, the thing is, we know this takes place.
Obviously, after the main show, Daryl left.
We know that.
I've said, I think this takes place after the ones who live.
I think Rick's already in Alexandria.
I get it.
You're saying the sets, but they could do a mini rebuild quickly.
They don't have to do.
You're right.
They don't have to do the entire, like, Alexandria set again.
But they could just do like, okay, put a couple green screens, get a couple of the houses.
Yeah, but she didn't say that it was Rick that came back.
I both.
No, she did it.
But that was one of the lines from the other episodes where it was a, oh, it wasn't people.
It was just feeling.
I will never forget that.
Shut up.
That was so funny.
I about broke my TV when she said that.
That was the most ridiculous.
She's dying in Daryl's arms and tells him Rick's back.
That's what will get him to go.
I don't think so.
I think, I think, I think, I think, I think Daryl stays.
I think Laurent
Carol
and Ash go back
and Darrell stays
and then he's going to...
Season 3 would have no Laurent
that'd be... Well the season 3 would be
trying to get Darrell back to Laurent
in America
you know. Well we obviously don't know and
then he would realize that he might as well just rule
France and take it over
by the way. Easily done. You know him
and my favorite character now
on the show besides Daryl is that
the French Terminator.
I can't represent me.
Yeah. He's a badass.
He's awesome.
He's awesome.
He's been with us since episode one.
We've seen his own progression.
Yeah, he's had good character progression
and he's a bad.
Yes, he has.
Like his goal, originally, I want to kill Daryl.
I don't care about the boy.
I don't care about anything.
He killed my brother.
And then you see him go through this whole journey
of him trying to get to Daryl, kill him,
going through the end,
just to find the memes,
working with Jeanette to kill Darrell.
And then him seeing and believing in Laurent.
Like...
Yeah, and having Laurent say that he already forgave him,
just that I hope that you can forgive yourself.
So then he goes and fights for Laurent at the end of the show there.
I mean, he fought with Darrell side by side to save Laurent.
Yeah.
And he screwed up.
He didn't finish the job.
He didn't kill the second in command janitor.
She's not a janitor.
She's good.
I'm sorry.
The second in command.
Nanny or whatever she was doing.
She worked at the nest.
She wasn't part of Janais' group.
Janais' group was the janitor.
You have to at least keep that in line.
Okay, so she worked as the nest as like a house girl.
Something.
Like she was the top dog of them.
The lady boss in waiting.
Yes.
Other than that's what she was.
She was the female footman.
By the way.
And got the claps from long.
By the way, can I just say the.
final fight between
Darrell was great.
Oh, it was awesome.
That was a really good fight.
Skull kill.
I remember during that whole fight, I was like,
where's Morgan when you need him?
We could have a dual staff fight.
Oh, God.
Lusang was not as good as Morgan.
Don't even.
Well, I mean, yeah.
He needed to go train with the hobo in the wood.
Thank you.
One of the best episodes of Walking Dead.
You will never, you will never deny them.
You will never let us tell him.
Stop.
That thinks the same.
same as I do on this one. I did enjoy that. Yeah, but he thinks Janelle is a good bad guy.
Janelle?
I appreciate that. I guess I'm going to have this thing, but it's Jeanette. And her people are still
hanging around, even with Loh sang, and now the new, I guess she's not, she's going to be in charge
of the janitors. She may be a, she may be a cleaner, a house cleaner, but she's now going to be in
Charges and Janice.
Man, they're going to rise up and they're going to clean up this town.
Like for real.
Like for real.
We're going to make sure everybody has a doily under every lamp, okay?
That's what's going to happen.
But no, the scene where Lassang actually entered what you called the halfway house.
Yeah, yeah, they're home.
Yeah, it was great where they're actually, where the girls like, okay, we'll help find him.
And then Losang Justin says, wait a minute, there's the Rubik's Cube.
Yeah, he's the Cube.
Yeah, they left the Cube out.
So he knew he was still there.
Very sad.
I would like to see him because that's when Homeboy Falu, you know, tried to talk him out of it.
Thuleu is still alive.
He's still alive.
Yeah, I'm glad that.
I'm glad that happened.
And then I just, I still don't understand.
Okay, so then we had the fight.
We saved, we saved the Ron.
It was awesome.
Los Angeles is dead.
They're all dead except for her, except for her, except for the new janitor boss.
And Carol, now we've got Ash all pissed because he was lied to.
He told Carol what a great thing it was that he got to clear his mind and get rid of all the guilt.
It was all based on a lie, the lie that Carol told.
And she should have never told them.
That was a huge mistake.
If the lie is still working, why come clean?
If you can quote me on that, if the lie is still working, why come clean?
That's, yeah.
I believe that's in the Jeffie book of quotes.
Yes, it is.
That's been around for a while.
Yes, it is.
There's no sense in coming forth.
If she's been willing to say all this stupid crap the entire time and do whatever it takes to get Daryl back,
why would she suddenly go, oh, I need to tell you the truth.
Makes no sense.
It didn't make any sense at all.
It just, all it is is just giving us another episode of Ash being pissed, but he's going to have to help him.
We do see that they're in the plane trying to take off, but we don't know who all is in the plane, right?
We know that Ash.
Ash is flying it.
Ash is flying the plane.
We don't know who's on the plane.
It looks like, to me, that Darrell was shooting his rifle on the ground.
and I don't know.
But we also know how when that,
we don't know when that was.
We know how,
we know how trailers work.
Yeah,
right,
right.
We don't know what that was.
So I,
I think that they leave without Daryl.
That's the end.
Daryl's,
and,
well,
see.
Like,
it's,
it sucks.
It's only six episodes
because this show is genuinely so good.
I think you just take Daryl.
I mean,
if he's,
if they've milked all of France,
just have him go somewhere else in your,
up or something. I don't know. I'd be perfectly
fine with that because the way they're doing it's just
We go with
just thinking about this. So we go
with what Max believes that Carol's going to die.
But
she and Ash die
as the plane crashes
when they're trying to take off.
So the end is
Laurent's still alive,
Daryl's still alive, Carol
and Ash are dead.
Plain is burning.
We don't know where we are.
We don't know where we are.
Plain is
burning the end.
We're still, Daryl and Loran are still in friends.
My gut tells me they don't have the balls to kill Carol.
Oh, I don't think, I don't, like, I still think they do.
I don't disagree with you.
I just, I just want my theory to be right for once.
I've only gotten a few right, so.
Well, I, I kind of do also, actually, Max, because I, I think it's time to start
some of these stories down.
And we've, and you've definitely thrown that out there.
And Max, I think, I think I'm buying into the.
Kling of Carol.
I think I am.
But I think that Laurent still lives.
Daryl still lives.
End of season two,
the book of Carol.
Carol has to, the book of Carol.
I mean, she has to die, right?
Maybe.
The end.
You cannot kill Daryl.
Because Daryl can carry a show.
Carol cannot carry a show.
No way.
She's a great secondary.
She's a great secondary.
I absolutely agree.
No way you kill Daryl.
And you can't kill the point of...
You can't kill Ron.
What keeps the half-way house people and the janitors going is that Laurent is the hope.
He's Jesus.
So he can't die.
He's not going to die.
And Darrell is the keeper of Jesus.
He can't die.
So they're both left.
They're both left alive as the plane burns with the 50 gallons of extra gas.
It's weird.
It's weird.
so we're on the season two finale
and then we have to wait till spring
before anything Walking Dead Related comes out
with Dead City season two
Has this been renewed for season three?
No, I don't think so.
I don't think so.
Daryl, though.
I mean, to be fair, we didn't know
there was going to be a season two of Daryl
until the end date.
Because I remember we were talking about
they never renewed this for a season two
during the middle of the old season one.
airing.
Yeah.
And then when, when season one ended with the Carroll cliffhanger, that's when they announced,
oh, by the way, yeah, we're making a season two.
Right.
So they're probably waiting for season two to end before they announce a season three.
Which is fun, because they're not going to, they're definitely going to do a season three.
My gosh, Daryl is, the show is holding them strong.
And then Dead City apparently did very well as well.
Like dead, both dead, all three, sorry.
Dead City, the ones who live, and Daryl have done extremely well for AMC.
I know Dead City only had one season, same with the ones who live,
but apparently all three of them did super well for AMC.
Except the ones who live put a damper on the whole thing,
because it really was, it was Rick and Michaud back,
and it was not that good.
I thought it was great.
I expected a lot.
They could have done so much more with that.
And if they were to spend the money on,
if they're going to spend the money on Dead City like they did on Daryl,
then it'll be worthy.
Because they've done a great job with Daryl.
Absolutely, they've done a great job with all parts of Daryl.
And they need to do that with Dead City to make it just as good.
No question.
All right, so I'm looking forward to the final show.
I am.
And I'm looking forward to my prediction that Carol is going to die.
A.
I ain't letting you stealing that for me.
I gave you the scene.
I already gave you the scene how it's going to happen.
And so we're good.
You could take your little prediction,
but I gave you the scene.
I wrote the scene out.
So any last thoughts, Mr. Butcham?
Not really.
I mean, I think we've kind of covered.
I guess I'm more interested now.
And just knowing that Daryl has plot armor,
that he's going to be fine.
where they're going to take a potential season three.
Because that's what next episode, next week's episode,
that's the direction they're going to take us in.
What happens from here?
And they'll either tie it up in a bow,
and it'll be done to where if it doesn't get renewed, they're fine,
or they have enough confidence that we're obviously going to get another season,
and they're going to show us where they're going next.
I don't think they can't, I don't think they can go back to the United States.
No way.
Daryl can't go back to the U.S.
Nah, so do they stay in France or do they go somewhere else?
I don't know.
It'd be interesting if they stick to the religious angle and maybe Laurent gets recaptured by this religious group
and maybe they start headed towards the Vatican, toward Italy.
That would be kind of cool.
That would be cool.
There's so many options.
It would be awesome.
But imagine that and like the ruins of the Vatican as they take this new Jesus figure.
That would be cool.
I like that.
I like that theory.
That would be really cool.
Here's hoping. There's a lot of possibilities.
And AMC, look, if you need to have some more direction
or anything, you could just call me.
We'll be happy to chat with you. You can email me, too,
and the fat at the blaze.com, I'm fine.
I think the only issue with that would be
the only issue with your theory
would be getting permission to film there.
Yeah, they would have to Hollywood the shit out of it.
They've already laid the ground word for that when they were
drinking at the bar with their, because your country
doesn't elect
fascists. Okay, calm down
with your... That isn't what she said.
It sure is. I thought she said
like... Your country doesn't fall for
fascists. Yeah, okay.
All right, calm down. I don't think that was
a Trump thing. You guys take that way
too seriously. Okay, I got it.
Calm down. You keep the blinders on
there, buddy.
That's exactly
right, man. I will stop.
We'll stop because I don't want
to rip the blinders off of him right now.
All right, thanks for listening.
I appreciate it.
