Season 2, Episode 6 of the Walking Dead, Dead City.
Titled, Bridge Partners are Hard to Come by These Days.
Maggie, the Marshal, Ginny, and Herschel are welcomed by Brugel.
After the death of the Dama last week, Negan digs deep to become the Negan we love and the Negan he doesn't love.
We'll see if it lasts.
And we get a surprise visit from an escaped zoo animal spreading terror.
This is Talking Walking Dead.
Welcome to it.
Myself, Jeff Fisher,
Jason Butchrell,
and Maximus Fisher,
as we take a look at the latest episode
of Dead City.
Show description on IMDB.
Maggie considers making an alliance
as the outcome of Negan's actions come to a head.
Jason Butrell is on some sort of covert operation
and is not here this week.
He will join us next week,
as long as the operation is rapid.
up and successful.
Myself and Maximus will walk you through
another pretty darn good episode.
This was actually, I think,
probably the second best episode so far,
in my opinion.
I know you, specifically Jason and Jeffrey here,
love making fun of me for being somewhat of a shill,
but I wasn't a shill for a few episodes of this show.
No, no, no.
But no, this episode was genuinely fun.
Brugel continues to be
one of the best villains we've had in a while.
He's great.
Yeah, I like him.
I like him a lot.
And the bear scene was fun.
Right.
So, I mean, we got, we got Brugel taking our, you know, Maggie and the Marshall and Ginny and Herschel, you know, kind of captured.
But he was saying that they're free to go.
He just wanted to get information from them.
And then we had a guard killed, surprisingly, but we didn't know what it was until we find out later what it was.
And, you know, we got Croat and Nigen recapping the death of the Dama, which was just fascinating.
Every scene with Nigan and the Croat was really good.
Yeah, very good.
And then we, I really liked Croat and Nigan together smoking a cigarette and, you know, we're kind of rehashing what the future is going to be.
That was a good scene.
It was a really great scene.
And I, you know, obviously, I believe Jeffrey Dean Morgan still smokes in real life.
So I'm, you know, while I haven't smoked as an actual cigarette in quite some time, I understand.
I understand the enjoyment of such things.
Been what, six years?
Yeah, something like that.
It's been too long.
And so it was fun to see them smoke again.
But there, when they were talking.
The Croat inviting him to Croatia, all that.
Yeah, you know, one of our listeners, M at M1721721, 721, maybe it's M, I'm not sure.
Anyway, on X, he asked, or she, sorry, I don't want to use a gendered language, said that he questioned if it was a setup for Croat to be on Daryl's show going to Croatia.
And I thought, that's an interesting idea.
That could be interesting.
Because I thought the same thing.
Originally, I thought Croatia, we're going to run into Daryl,
and then I'd just put it out of my head.
Like, nah, that probably, you know, that probably won't happen.
Although, that'd be an interesting plot.
I mean, where's season three of Daryl going to be Spain, right?
Spain or England.
Yeah, but I mean, Croats got to go, you know, that way.
Yeah.
To stop off for a little vacation spot to wherever season three of Daryl is.
But that's a maybe.
But we know, we know he's going to be in next.
episode obviously he's not he just isn't disappearing from the show well you know then as they were talking
uh when they were recapping the death of the dama you know he saw the smushed rat
no he saw the blood on his shoe so and the footprint uh of the of the rat and then as he was
talking up in the balcony with nigen he sees the same footprint uh that had killed the rat
and that made him realize okay it's niggins fall
As Negan's fault, this is all going on.
And then they get into the chapel and then they have that fight.
The big fight and it was kind of strange seeing Croat beat Negan.
To be fair, as soon as Negan was able to get his footing, he whooped the Croat.
Yes, he did.
It was just, hey, he grabbed the bat first and swung.
And no matter how big and strong you are, a bat to the arm covered in barbed wire would hurt.
I will say that with that scene brought back the Negan.
love.
And it was awesome.
As soon as he got the bat back and...
It was awesome.
And I...
It's the Negan we want.
And then of course when it's over, he struggles again with being Negan, the Negan that
we want, the Negan that we love.
He, of course, is struggling with it.
And it just...
It's frustrating.
It's frustrating because, well, we want Negan.
I mean, and then after that, when he's kind of pretty much in charge at this point,
his family is in town
like his wife and son
yeah Corlatt said that his family was going to arrive
and they show up he sees them through the window
and tells his crew send them back to Tennessee
now because he was struggling with
you know seeing his family
and having to be the Negan
that he wants to be
but he knows that he can't
right he can't be that Negan
with those people around
so that's a good sign
that's a good sign for us
that means that Negan will be Negan
which I kind of like
although then
I mean at the end
with Ginny
and I'm jumping ahead a little bit
but at the end with Jenny
and you know she is
injured and she
confronts him with a weapon and then
passes out because she's been injured
you see Negan going back into his
I mean because he asked about her
The thing is he's all, do we forget he's always cared about kids?
You two always, you two always forget about that.
He was, he was genuinely loving of kids even when he was evil Negan.
I know.
Like that isn't out of character for him at all.
So he kicks Croat out and, you know, says, get out new beginning.
So now, A, who takes care of the methane?
because I mean, the process is still good,
but if something goes wrong, then...
I mean, has Croat got his number two guy?
Does the number two guy running the methane know exactly how to do it?
I don't...
I know.
That would be interesting to figure out.
Also, Negan with the historian, letting him out of solitary.
Yeah, that was interesting.
And then him talking to him with the whiskey.
That was a nice scene.
Yeah, and that was where...
he started talking about realizing who he had to be, right?
Being the old him and then struggling with, you know, being the new him.
And yet he knew he had to be old him.
Yeah.
And that's when he realizes that he needs, his family can't be here, right?
The wife, the woman and the kid, I don't know if they're actually married.
They got married.
If they're there, he can't be him.
He can't.
He can't be him.
He can't show that side of him to them.
And I get that.
I get that.
And that's one of his lines that he said, right?
Are we just want to remember wrong?
It was like, it was something along the lines of, are we remembering history right, or is it easier to remember it wrong?
Yeah.
That's a good line.
It's a good line.
And it's easier to remember it wrong.
We all know that.
We don't bog us down with facts.
Just remember the way we want it to be.
And that's the way we have to do it.
So then, go ahead.
Then we move on to Maggie's side of the story with with a Colonel Armstrong, Jenny,
all in the natural history museum, talking with Bruegel and all that.
Right.
And Brugle just wants to be the ruler.
You know, he's trying to figure out a plan for he can run the joint and run everything.
And he knows the history.
He knows the lie.
Negan, you know, you lied about killing Negan.
And then, of course, the title cut.
Bridge partners are hard to come by these days
when he's talking to Pearly Armstrong,
or whatever his name is.
That's his name.
The Marshal.
I know he's the Colonel now, but he's still the Marshal.
He's always the Marshal to me.
I'm remembering the way I want to remember.
Genuinely, that was a great scene, the way,
when they were playing cards.
That was great.
He's going over Bridge and it's about the game.
and then he has a what's her face
as the Walker
who I love
I mean I'm happy to see that she's actually dead
Yeah she didn't come back to life she's dead
Yeah what's her name the Babylon B chick
The Major the Major that that died
But apparently she wasn't completely dead
When Brugle got there
So he took her and she was babbling about Babylon B
and babbling about them
And then turned into a walker.
Yeah.
Which he, you know, kept around just to show the marshal and then kill it.
And by this point, Maggie and Herschel and Jenny are gone.
Right.
Because they had decided and Brugel gave them the choice of staying or leaving and they had decided to leave.
Now, Herschel was going to try to sneak out on his own because he wants to go see the dama.
They don't know she's dead.
Yeah.
And obviously he helped with the.
But then he came back to help with the bear and then left.
Well, no, no, no.
He was leaving.
And Maggie got up to him and said, what are you going?
Where are you going?
What are you doing?
What are you doing?
I know how hard it is.
Blah, blah, blah.
You know, I'm on your side.
I love you.
And he's like, you know, he's not hearing any of it.
He doesn't want to hear any of it.
He hasn't had any real love from her, according to him.
And then the bear.
The way he remembers.
The way he remembers him.
The way, he's remembering mom and being all, you know, struck over dad and the hatred of Neegan
and that big hole that needed to be filled for Herschel was never filled with the love of Maggie.
And so he's going to leave.
And he pops out the back door and we have the wayward, angry zoo animal, the giant cocaine bear.
You immediately said cocaine bear.
And I'm like, I don't think this is cocaine bear.
If anybody's seen that movie, it is a good movie.
I don't care what anybody says.
Walker Bear, which is not even, he wasn't even a Walker Bear. He was somehow still alive.
Well, animals don't turn. Well, they can't get infected. But they get eaten. And so this bear was in the zoo.
It was, I guess, in the zoo, and they were at the, that's where they were at.
I'm just saying, rotted human flesh against a bear doesn't seem like a good combo.
Well, it finally got to him, though. It finally did. And, you know, they, Maggie had to fight it, which was,
an interesting fight.
Apparently, she'd never seen how to fight a bear.
You'd get them to stand up and then you put the blade right through the center heart
mask when they fall down on it.
They did.
Duh.
Well, she did that with the fence.
And I will say that she let the walkers go to get to the bear and the bear defeated them.
The bear defeated the walkers like, I'm having, no, you're not eating me.
You're dying.
I'm squishing your skull.
It was kind of a good thing.
scene. It was a good fight scene.
And then, of course, the bear stands up
and they're close to the
fighting ring, the MMA Walker
fighting ring that Brugel has set up
and the bear, you know, falls
down and kills himself
on the top of the fence, which
it's interesting. Oh, plus
prior to that, though, is when
he's going up against
Maggie, Herschel
He has his throwing knives. Yeah, from the
upper level throws his
knives into the bear's skull.
Which I thought, okay, I like that.
Thank you.
I like Herschel with his throwing knives.
It's a good touch.
Yeah, I'm leaving, and I hate you, Mom, but you know what?
I'll save your life before I go.
I don't want you to get eaten by the bear.
And then after that, he's gone.
Yeah, then he's gone.
So, you know, and that's, and we'll see what happens because he's on the hunt for the
Dama.
And what happens when he finds out she's dead?
I guess, you know, he realizes that everybody dies.
And does he come back around to, you know, forgive himself and forgive Maggie and come back to the group?
I don't know.
I don't know.
And Jenny, having an infected wound, not Walker infected, just regular infected.
Yeah, when they were fighting, she had that branch lim or whatever go in her, yeah.
And she's been really struggling with that.
Why she doesn't say anything, I don't quite understand that.
It doesn't make any sense why she wouldn't say that she was injured.
but okay whatever and so she you know they they end up you know crossing pass with nigan and that's
where she shows up and you know passes out that's the end but nigan um go's face to face with
maggie which of course they do and uh he tells maggie where herschel may be going and so she can go
and you know try to save him i guess and we'll see what happens and we're just wandering the city
So we don't know we've got Brugel wandering or I mean we've got
Yes we have Brugel out there
We have Negan in charge of the of the of the Croat people
We have Croat
Somewhere somewhere
And we know he's in next episode
So we'll see where he went
We don't know you know what
What happens with that
I'm surprised you know he made him bow down to Negan
And Negan said you know
Made him bend the knee again in front of him
and say out loud everything he is was because of Negan.
And that was, you know, that's what Negan was, the Nigan we love.
And he needs to be that Nekin and continue to be that Nagan.
And so then Croat just left.
He kicked him out.
I don't see, you know, the dream of him going to Croatia.
I feel like that's just a dream.
He's got to be able to.
I mean, he's got to have plenty of people on his side in the group that he'll be able to.
that he'll be able to take with him, right?
Maybe.
But remember, we had Carol go to,
go to Paris on a biplane.
Yeah, I know.
I just don't know that I,
I don't know that I believe that.
And maybe, maybe Croak goes to be with Brugel.
And, you know, that way they have the methane.
And, you know, then they'll have a way to fight Negan
because Brugel will want Negan dead,
so that's our Negan will take over.
But Nigan still has control of the methane.
He just doesn't have the knowledge to keep it going.
Yeah.
So we'll see.
And plus, you know, what happens with the Marshall?
Does he...
I mean, didn't it seem like Brugel strong-armed him in the joining, basically?
Yeah, yeah, but I mean, he's still with...
The Babylon B people.
Yes.
Right?
So we still have that battle ongoing.
Now, are the Babylon people going to send a new wave?
Because it's been a while since their people have been back.
They had the head lady, the second-in-charged lady, and the third-uncharged guy disappear.
And, you know, we're going to New York.
And now none of them have come back.
They've got no messages.
It's just nothing.
They've got to be able to, you know,
You know, the group has to have someone take over, right?
Mm-hmm.
I don't know who that would be.
I don't know that we've been introduced to that person yet or not.
But someone has to take over for sure.
And I'm looking forward to that.
It should be a good battle, actually, between Brugel and Negan and whatever Croat is doing.
And Maggie.
And the side story of Maggie just wanting to go home and...
Herschel.
That she's a family with Herschel and Herschel being wandering around.
York looking for the dama.
Where is she?
I specifically remember saying if the dama dies,
Herschel might want to take over her place and actually take like be in charge of
the city.
I remember saying that a couple episodes ago.
Look forward to the future.
Uh-huh.
Yeah.
And maybe he could talk Nigen into looking to the future for the city.
Maybe.
I don't know.
It just seems kind of weird.
But maybe, maybe we can make that happen.
I'm looking forward to it, though.
I am looking forward to it.
And next week show is titled,
Novi Dan, Novi Positac.
I'm sure I'm saying that, absolutely correct.
It's a Croatian phrase that translates to new day, new beginning.
Okay, so it expresses the idea that there's going to be a fresh start possible
with the dawn of a new day.
So we find out what the Croat is thinking.
Is it a new day, him trying to get on a boat or a plane and going to Croatia?
Well, he'll end up on Daryl's season three.
Or is it a new beginning with his people he's decided that he's going to take it over?
I may be nothing without Negan and Negan made me everything I am, but screw him, I'm still me.
I just thought of an idea.
He figures out of New York
and how he ends up on the Daryl show
is he gets a flight on Ash Air.
After he dropped,
after Ash drops off Laurent,
at, uh,
I'm going back.
I've got to go back and get him.
I've got to go back.
I'll take you with me.
After he drops off Loran at Alexandria.
Instead of,
instead of Ash staying at Alexandria.
That would not surprise.
me actually. That would not
suppose. Ash Air. That was a great
joke. So I'm looking forward to next
week. Next to the week, I'm definitely looking forward to.
They've been pretty darn good.
Yeah, the last few episodes have been good. Yes, they
have. Yes, they have. And I'm very
excited about that. So, I mean,
that's one of the good things. Now, we only
have a couple episodes left.
Right? I mean, we've got
seven and eight. Two episodes
left of this season. So
some things got to move. Some things
got to happen for us to
see what can be. And then after that, what we have till October, I think, till Daryl.
Yeah. So we'll have to wait for that. Although I'm, you know, I'm looking forward to it.
They've definitely spent money on that. So I'm looking forward to that. We did have a question
from Tyler, who emailed Chewing the Fat at the Blaze.com. And he asked a question about
the regular Walking Dead show, the original Walking Dead show. And he wanted to know, he said he's
rewatching the Walking Dead, which is a good rewatch, by the way. And it's been quite some time
since I've actually sat down and rewatched it. Did we ever find out what happened to the Mexican
family that went to Birmingham instead of the CDC? And I thought to myself, I'm not sure,
but that's why I have the expert, Maximus, on this program, to remind us of the facts and figures.
So, Max, did we ever find out what happened to the Mexican family that went to Birmingham instead of the CDC?
Yes, we did.
Okay, okay.
So Morales, when they went and his family, when they went to Birmingham, we didn't see them again forever until season eight.
Because that was during the All Out War.
He had ended up joining with Negan because his family died.
And he was in one scene.
Oh, that's right.
He was in one scene where Rick reunited,
with him when they were raiding a, when they were raiding a savior outpost, and they're,
and they're talking about everything where he's like, wait, wait, Maggie, who's that?
Because he was only in season one.
Right.
And then like, wait, Glenn got married in all this?
And then he's talking with him.
Rick's trying to talk him down.
Daryl goes up behind him and then shoots Morales in the head and with his crossbow.
And then Rick's like, do you-
Oh, that's right because he was trying to, he was trying to talk him down.
Yes.
And then Rick was like, do you know who that was?
And Darrell was like, yeah, it doesn't matter.
Doesn't matter.
He's against us.
He's working for him.
So that's what happened.
He's working for him.
He's working for Nagan.
Yes, that's right.
And that was that quasi outposts that they were in.
Yeah, that they were, that's right.
I do remember that.
Tyler.
So I didn't need Max.
Oh, please.
It would have been, please, it would have taken you probably a week to figure it out.
Forever.
Forever.
Forever.
So that's this edition of Talking Walking Dead.
I appreciate it.
It was a good episode.
If you haven't seen it, do see it as well.
We apologize for the lack of Jason.
I don't apologize for the lack of Jason.
I'll tell you that.
I don't know where he's at and I don't know what kind of mission he's on,
but I'm sure that he'll be happy to talk about it.
Is he doing a war reenactment of what you did on the island?
Maybe he is.
Maybe he is.
Maybe he's joined the Civil War reenactors,
and he's doing that this week.
Actually, that is what he's doing.
You're right.
You guessed it.
He's reenacting the Civil War of the Battle at Gettysburg,
and he's one of the guys that shoots off the cannons.
So maybe he lives, maybe he doesn't.
So we'll see you next week right here on Talking, Walking Dead.
