Season 2, Episode 7 of the Walking Dead Dead City, titled Novi Dan, Noviposatech.
It's a Croatian phrase that translates to New Day, New Beginning.
Maggie and Negan both go on a find-yourself journey, using Ginny and Herschel as the excuse for the journey.
And we find out, well, what I thought was so, is so, at least for now, leading us into an all-out war for the city.
This is Talking Walking Dead.
Welcome to it.
Myself, Jeff Fisher, Jason Buttrill, and Maximus Fisher,
as we take a look at the latest episode of Dead City,
show description on IMDB.
Negan and Maggie go on a harrowing journey
and face unexpected challenges.
Jason Butrell is on a covert operation still
and has not been seen and probably won't be seen until next week.
So he will join us here.
next week as the operation is wrapped up and successful, we hope.
Myself and Maximus will walk you through the next to last episode of Season 2.
So, Maximus, what did you think of the episode?
I wasn't as good as the previous two.
I liked it, but I truly think the last two were better,
but the ending was something that gave us look forward to for the finale.
No question about it.
I did enjoy this episode, although
there were some times in the episode when I just couldn't take it,
and it was driving me insane.
And then it worked itself out.
But, you know, I just was agonizing as getting to the point that made me happy.
So I know it started off with, you know, Maggie sneaking around, looking for Herschel,
and then she finds Croat sitting with the burned out body in the apartment of who we believe
is the dama. No, she's dead.
Uh-huh. And he says
that he'll help Maggie
find Herschel, which
was weird enough in itself, but
she bought it. Yes, yeah, she bought
it. I mean, she's going to buy anything
that gets her closer to Herschel,
right? I mean, that's her deal
now. And then
Negan is
helping Jenny recover
and they're down in the
jail cell of the theater
where he was kept, and he's
there with the historian and
Jenny is not well. I mean
she was, why she didn't say anything with the
when she was stabbed?
She went through her back. I just, I don't understand.
But she didn't.
And, you know, that's, he's
with the historian who
was so special and found the stuffed animal
that belonged to her and brought it
to Negan to give to her so she
could rest in the resting bed
with her stuffed animal.
Okay. And then
he
goes on a story
Negan goes on a story with the historian
about
you know God giving him second chances
and keeps giving him second chances
and he has
no idea why. Memories of his wife
and you know he feels like he failed her
and now he wants to you know
this again he feels like this is another
chance like he feels like he
failed his wife and his son
and he this is another chance
by saving Jenny
to, you know, redeem himself.
And so he finds out that there's drugs at a hospital, Bellevue.
And of course, he's going to go, you know, with his team,
and they're going to take over the hospital.
Oh, wait, no.
No, he went by himself.
That's right.
He went by himself.
I don't know.
It was fun to have Negan out on his own.
I don't know that I believe that that was.
We saw a lot of kid walkers.
A lot of kid walkers.
Yeah, the hospital hunt was pretty incredible.
There was, we saw what I guess was another thief, a running walker that was, turns out to be a figment of his imagination.
Yeah, that was a hallucination for him, but all the dormant walkers.
Because he comes across this room with these kid walkers.
First, well, he starts out with one kid walkers.
Walker.
Just kill him.
What are we even doing?
I was such a waste.
I mean, I don't understand.
And if you tell me one more time,
I always like the kids,
that's what he does.
I'm not going to.
Yeah, because I can't take it.
And the kid is a walker.
He knows this kid is a walker.
Kill him.
I think, by the way,
I rewatched the scene like of the,
of the hallucination thief running through the,
the dormant walkers.
Yeah.
They don't activate until Negan hits them.
Okay.
Like, when you see the thief, quote unquote,
running through them and actually you see him like touching the walkers,
nothing happens.
But as soon as Neegan hits them.
So it is a hallucination.
Yeah.
We just don't see that.
But the first time that he saw it was down a hallway.
And so it was not right next to him.
So you kind of felt like that was real.
Oh, that might be real.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But I see.
Now, you're right.
They didn't activate.
Okay.
And that's when he finds the room of kid walkers.
But when he found the little kid,
that's the reason he started hallucinating is because he fell backwards and hit his head.
And hit his head, yeah.
Just kill the kid.
What are we doing?
Well, we couldn't get to the hallucination if he didn't fall and hit his head.
Okay.
Okay.
Sure.
No problem.
And he never does kill the Walker kid.
He wakes up and the Walker kid's on top of him with this cart so he can't reach him.
He pushes him off.
He pushes him off and leaves.
I just, what a waste.
What a waste.
He's smarter than that, I thought.
But then he goes back downstairs, catches the thief, and we see Lucille, once again
played by a Hillary Burton Morgan.
Yeah, the real wife.
And it was all a hallucination.
And then we see Annie again.
He apologizes and he can't, you know, I'm sorry.
He always felt that he was, he failed her.
And then he got the second chance with the new wife.
What's her name?
Annie.
Yeah, Annie.
And the kid.
Joshua.
And, you know, he sees her and him.
And he apologizes to them for not being good enough for them.
And it's all just a hallucination.
And then he finds the, like,
The ventilator like
He goes into a room.
He never does find the drugs.
The drugs that were presumably at this hospital,
although it was kind of hearsay to begin with.
He got it from a druggie,
one of the other,
one of the other Dama people that said,
you know,
he was on the hunt for,
for drugs.
And he said that nobody,
anybody that's gone in there,
never came back.
Right.
So, you know,
which is why he went by himself.
Okay.
All right.
I got it.
I mean, the thing is, he's good with Walker.
He always has been.
Yeah, I know.
I know.
It just, you know, the hallucination thing was, okay.
I mean, once you realize that it's a hallucination.
Yeah.
Then you...
Plus, it got him to where you want him to be.
No question.
Because he's apologizing and you feel like he's the old Negan.
He's wrestling with himself and he's been wrestling with himself.
This whole season of, you know, wanting to be this new Negan and not the Negan that we know and love from the sanctuary.
And so this hallucination, you know, gets him to that point, which, okay, I'm great.
And then he finds this ventilator, which he knows how to run because of the first wife, you know, being sick and on cancer and taking care of her.
And so then he brings that back.
we don't see him travel with that back.
It's just, he shows up with it back.
So I know that that's kind of a walking dead thing where we just...
We know what happened, but...
We just believe that it was no problem.
He's just carrying this ventilator through New York back to the theater.
Okay, sure.
But then he's talking with the historian.
Yeah, before we get to that.
Oh, okay, okay.
You know, during the time, we're going back and forth between Negan and Maggie and the...
Maggie and...
No, you know what?
stick with Negan because he finally gets back with the valetor and he's talking to the historian and he
starts realizing that you know he's you think he's going in one direction and then he just shifts
thank you jesus he doesn't because he tells the historian look i know what i did wrong god keeps giving
me all these second chances i know what i did wrong when i built the sanctuary i showed mercy and
we built this thing for the people i'm not showing any more mercy i'm going to kill them all
Amen.
Amen.
Stop questioning yourself.
Make it happen.
It was awesome.
Yeah. And the trailer for next episode looked like we have classic Negan.
Yes.
We had any me,
any, ma'em, which is fun.
I mean, we're at the All Out War, right?
I mean, it's a war for the city now.
And we have Negan.
We've got Maggie with Herschel.
And we'll get to who else is with Maggie and Herschel, because I knew it.
So we start off with the Croat
helping Maggie through the one building
with the Sky Bridge.
Yeah, before that, you know, the Croatian, you know,
tells Maggie the toe cutoff story,
which kind of shook her a little bit
because she was thinking that he was held hostage
that he was being tortured.
Yeah.
Cut off.
Tort being tortured.
Nope.
He did, well, he was being tortured, you know, mentally.
But he gave the toe up willingly
to prove, you know, how much.
He believes in the cause.
And so, you know, they're going, he's going to take her to where we really did think he was at up, you know, in the one building.
Yeah, to a safe house, quote, unquote.
But the safe house was actually a Croat place.
And so, I mean, getting there was kind of weird.
The maze was fun.
I like the maze.
Getting there was kind of weird because Maggie has this fear of heights and she's walking across the sky bridge.
You had the trip wires and then.
And yeah, it's just really weird.
You were yelling at Maggie, like, get off the glass when it started cracking.
And I'm like, she's smarter than that.
She's smarter than that.
She's bent through too much to let this little thing stop her.
She should have just walked straight across instead of the slow walk with Croats saying,
come on, come on, it's okay.
And I know that I know they set it up with her having the fear of heights,
walking up the stairs.
Had the trip wires.
trip wires and we got one tripwire set that you know you got to see the giant iron ball with
the prongs and blades coming out of it okay i got it but uh still and her struggling you know looking
down because they were so high up okay all right but when we get to the sky bridge i just feel like
and i i i don't necessarily have fear of heights i mean i can understand it i'm not doing anything
crazy when I'm up, you know,
up high like that. I like heights. I'm not scared of them.
Yeah, but I mean, at that point,
she's been through enough that, in my mind,
she's just going to walk across it. Just walk across it.
Don't look. Don't look down. Don't look down. Don't look down. Don't look down. Don't look
down. Don't look to the left. Don't look to the right.
Walk straight across. Just get across it.
Because it's not that long of a, of a...
The thing that really got her was the walker sneaking up behind her.
But, yeah, well, that's because she took two.
damn long to get across that thing. And so then, you know, she falls down and passes out with her,
you know, a fear of heights. And the walker starts pulling on her. And then, of course,
the glass walkway, you know, starts cracking. Of course it does. Of course. And just for a moment,
just for that small inkling moment, you think to yourself, they're getting rid of Maggie. She's
going down. Okay. We get to see Maggie. That wasn't going to happen. Fall from the
the sky bridge and impale herself at the bottom, just hanging over a street in New York.
That's the death of Maggie.
Okay, I'm good with that.
That wasn't ever going to happen.
But no, because then the glass breaks and Crowett had pulled out, pushed out a ladder,
and she grabs on and saves herself.
Ah!
So close.
So they make it to the safe house where we find out it's not really a safe house.
It's just a place Croat went there to have Maggie kill him because he was too much of a coward to kill himself.
Right.
And it was, once they hit the house.
the floor they had the office
barricades you know set up as a maze
to get through and
she's still freaking out inside this maze
and then once she lost Croat
she freaks out even more because she's in this
maze and has no idea where she hasn't
she hasn't slept either like he that was
the thing too like it's been like two or three days
and she slept so yeah yeah
yes and so she's struggling with that as well
so I get that and that was a fun little scene
you know going through the maze and
killing a couple of walkers and
Croat fixing the flashlight and telling his little stories about how he, you know,
learned how to fix things because of his mother, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
And then we get to the room that has his, I guess it's a picture of his mother.
They're, you know, back in Croatia.
And he wants to, he did give another tease about when he was fixing the flashlight about going back to Croatia.
I feel like that might be a tease to get us to Daryl.
I don't know that.
I'm just thinking like Croatia is quite a long way away.
We've covered this.
He's got to travel across, he's got to travel across the Atlantic to get there.
He'll find Ash.
He's got to travel across the Atlantic to get there.
So that means that's going to run into.
First class trip on Ash Air.
Yeah, that definitely could happen.
And I like the idea of, you know,
Croix being on Daryl.
That having been said.
You know, he wants Maggie just to kill him up there,
which, of course,
she doesn't do.
We find out his mother has been dead for a long time.
Yeah, I mean, he's missing his family and his mother and his mother left.
And he was, he hunted for her forever and she was close.
And then she died.
All that sad stories as the kid, you know, as the kid crow at.
Okay, we got it.
And then, uh,
she sees from a light from a skyscraper,
the, the light on and off signal that, that she does with, uh, that she does
with the Herschel.
Right, because they're in there stuck in this room and they're just sitting there.
It's, you know, they're both wiped and, you know, it's getting dark out.
And then she sees the signal from the skyscraper.
And I'm not real sure.
I didn't go back and look what an actual building that was.
I thought it was the Chrysler building.
I thought.
It may have been.
It may have been.
But it was, you know, it was one of the skyscrapers that you see in the city.
And you see the signal coming from from that building.
Maggie immediately knows
that's where Herschel is.
That's where they go.
And she traverses her way up.
Apparently, okay, there in that building,
climbs those stairs to get to Herschel.
It's clearly protected.
Because of Herschel's there.
By himself.
Right.
Right.
And up the stairs, we go there.
We see art.
We see a lot.
We see it's furnished.
So we're like, oh, this place has been taken care of.
It's not a,
it's not abandoned.
Correct.
And there's Herschel.
Amazing.
And you're like, okay.
You know, this is where he's at.
And he was hoping that his mom would see the signal.
And she did.
And it got her to come there.
Okay.
And they're going to be together.
And Maggie's like, I'm sorry.
And, you know, it's all good.
We're going to get out of here and go back home.
And then we turn.
And there's the Dab.
And hits smaggy over the head and not survive.
There is the Dama.
Who I said was not dead.
You called it.
You called it.
I just knew it.
There's no way.
Now, I don't know what the story is going to be for her survival.
Like her hair's cut all strange and she's, you know, she's got to have some burns on her.
And then she had the fake planted body that was there.
Yeah, there was actually the burned body that Corot was sitting over.
I mean, I'm not sure we're going to get to that explanation.
of how that happened, but okay, it did.
And she's still alive, so she's still controlling Herschel.
And that was, you know, it was a great scene at the end as she, you know,
knocks out Maggie because it was like where, you know,
Herschel was happy to have her there.
And the Dama, you know, knocks her out, which was.
It was funny.
When we were watching it, this guy's first reaction when he sees the Dama goes,
I called it.
I knew she wasn't dead.
There's no way they let her die like that.
I'm sorry.
She has too much power.
But, okay, so, and we learn from Croat how she got all the power
and how she read people and all that kind of stuff.
But now we have a serious war all out because you have, what's his face?
Brugel.
Brugel.
Negan and the Dama.
And the Dama.
Now, the Dama doesn't really have too much control
over anyone yet, although the people
that were kind of under Negan
were under her.
So it's, you know,
I'm sure that if she shows her face,
they're going to be torn.
But Negan is,
believes he's in charge now.
So, I mean, if the Dama shows up,
maybe he just kills her, which,
you know, darn, that would be a shame.
What if she's the Lucille, Lucille 3.0 victim?
Yeah, that's fine. That's fine.
I'm okay with that.
Because if she shows up,
with Herschel and Maggie and tries to, you know, lead the herd.
I don't think that's going to go over well.
I don't think so either.
I don't think that's going to go over well at all.
So we're going to have the internal struggle there between Negan and the Dama,
who has Maggie and Herschel.
And, you know, Negan's trying to keep Ginny safe by keeping her down in the cell
with the historian and hopefully she, you know, survives being on the vent and, you know, gets that taken care of, which I think we all know she will.
Although, remember, when she passed out, she was holding a gun to Negan.
Very true.
She wanted to kill him.
So I don't know that she, even if she wakes up and is better, does she, is she able to forgive Negan?
That's a question
I don't know
I don't know that that happens
And Brugel thinks he's just going to take over the whole thing
It's all his
He's got it no problem
And I don't think he really
You know he doesn't realize that he's going to go up against Negan
And Negan is
You know he's not as merciful as he once was
Which is awesome
I know you're happy about that
I'm very happy about that
Very happy and that's another thing
Like Nigan went to the hospital
without Lucille, without the new Lucille.
He was just out there on his own
without the new Lucille.
That was kind of a bummer.
I mean, I wanted him to carry Lucille with him.
But he'll have it with him now
because that's going to be his baby.
And then, on top of that,
so where's Crow at in all this?
Does he just disappear?
That's a good question.
Does he, because Maggie went to go get Herschel,
I don't think Crowat went on.
I have an idea on how.
how he'll help the finale.
I don't know if he'll die or not,
but how he'll help the finale.
He knows how the methane thing obviously works,
like to intricate detail.
If he wants to screw everyone over,
he knows how to make sure it never works again.
Destroy it. Destroy the methane plant.
That's going to happen.
That's a good call.
That's going to happen.
Because then he just, that's what he, on his way,
on his way to find ash air.
And head over to the Daryl series.
He destroys the methane plant because he's had enough.
Nobody can have it.
If I'm not going to have it, no one can have it.
That's a good call.
So we're having the battle.
Negan lives.
Maggie for sure lives.
I mean, I had a chance to kill her off this week and we didn't.
So Brugel, does he live?
I don't think so.
I think he dies.
Dama dies. Dama's got to kill her.
He's got to kill the Dama with lingering allegiance by Herschel.
And maybe Maggie and Herschel...
Reconcil, but I don't know.
I don't know either.
I don't know either.
I feel like maybe Maggie will just go.
And Herschel will say, just go.
I love you.
But we can't be together.
We can't do this.
And just go away.
So now
They're left in the city
Now the final episode is
If history were conflagration
Which is like an extreme
Extensive fire
That destroys land and property
So that very well could be
Yeah the methane
Yeah the methane exploding
And so then what
You know we're in the
Negan has taken over to nothing
And he sees
Or knows that Croat is on the top
of the rubble of the methane plant.
Now what?
Now we're in Dead City.
I guess Negan, being Negan,
figures it's his now.
Dead City on fire?
It's all his.
It's all his.
And I can figure it out.
I'll make it happen.
And I'm showing no one mercy and I'm taking over.
And you all work for me.
And maybe he keeps Herschel alive, maybe.
Keeps him with him.
Maggie goes,
that's uh look that's interesting i want to see how the i do want to see the next week's episode
i'm actually looking forward to it i'm looking very looking forward to the finale it's the final
episode of dead city and then guess what the episode you know you know what i'm expecting to
another two years baby and like another i know it was like two almost two years since season one
i know and he's doing you know he's doing his game show now on the network and he's got other
things going.
It didn't, well,
it's just going to be a...
Didn't Dead City get very delayed
by the strikes that were going on?
Don't bog me down with facts.
Just know that it took forever to get that thing.
Daryl was filmed before the strikes.
Dead City was impacted by it,
I believe. That's why Daryl Season 2
came out first. Yeah, they were.
And that's why it happened. I know.
I got it. Don't bog me down with facts.
But I'm just saying that, you know,
took forever.
And so, hopefully,
hopefully,
uh,
the rating,
numbers have been fairly well, fairly good.
Well, I'll break it down for you next week on what the numbers were for the season.
But it's enough for them to re-up for a new season, as long as they can get, you know, Maggie and Negan back.
Like, we know Daryl had a lot of numbers.
We know season one of Dead City had a lot of numbers, and obviously those who live had a lot of numbers.
Yeah.
So, I mean, I'm definitely looking forward to next week and the all-out war in the city.
I'm sure we know
Niga's not going to die right
Do we know that?
I mean we we should
But I don't
We don't know
I mean
If they kill off Negan
That'd be a huge gamble
That's the end of the show then
Right
I mean
Without without Negan
You've got Maggie left
And is Maggie strong enough
To lead the whole show?
I don't think so
I don't think so
I know that when she left
She thought she was going to be
A big TV star
and did a new show, what was the name of that stupid show that she did,
and it didn't do well at all.
The ratings stunk.
So that's when she decided, you know what, I can come back to Walking Dead.
I really appreciate you guys, I'm going to come back.
And they opened their arms to her and she came back, which was, you know, it's not a bad move.
It's a good move.
But because she's strong enough to lead the whole thing?
I don't think so.
I don't think so.
So for sure, then Niga doesn't die.
Yeah.
He may be injured.
maybe, but no way does he die.
And so we end with the city on fire.
Croats on top of the rubble.
Ready for season three.
Negan is on top of a pile of bodies with Lucille,
showing no mercy ready to rebuild the sanctuary called New York City.
And Maggie is left looking at Herschel.
Herschel has to decide whether he's going to see.
stay or go with his mom because she wants to go.
The end, roll credits.
That'd be a good ending.
Yeah.
But obviously, we don't know how it's going to happen.
Yeah, I think that's probably where we're going to go up and be at, though.
And then that means they could get to, you know, season three.
At some point, at some point, somebody's going to have to die.
I'm just saying, somebody's going to have to die.
They can email me at chewing the fat at the blaze.com and we can work out a plan.
I'm happy to work out a plan with AMC to make that happen.
But somebody needs to die.
You can quote me on that.
So we've decided.
We're looking forward to next week.
And I definitely am looking forward to next week.
I wish it wasn't only eight episodes.
I wish we had a couple more episodes.
Because remember, Walking Dead was always 16 episodes until the final two seasons, which were 22 episodes.
Yeah.
And I mean, this season should have been at least 10, at least 10.
But nope.
I know.
I'm getting greedy.
be happy with the eight i was happy when it first started we've got eight episodes but it should have been
ten and it wasn't and this is what i get so that's the way we go uh so next week uh we'll be here
to wrap up the finale and i'll get to some numbers on what the tv numbers were to see if
uh those will hold up for a season three which i'm sure they probably will and uh we already called
well how it's going to end so do you think something different um
Instead of Negan being on the top of a pile of bodies,
maybe he's at the top of the Empire State Building.
Okay.
All right.
He's up in Herschel's room.
They're in the Chrysler building or whatever building he was in.
All right, I'm good with that.
All right, thanks for listening to Talking Walking Dead.
We'll see you here next week on this very same dead channel, same dead time.
Hopefully with Jason Butchrell.
Yeah, well, he's in the middle of something right now.
You know, it's gotta get back.
Nah, I just kidding.
