Season three, episode one of the walking dead, Daryl Dixon, titled Costa da Morty.
The overall theme of the show, Daryl's journey across a broken but resilient France,
as he hopes to find a way back home.
Their lives are in peril, as always, attempting to return back home.
They survived the tunnel last season, lost the chosen one, Laurent,
and their Daryl and Carol are together again.
as one.
This is talking walking dead.
Welcome to it.
Myself, Jeff Fisher, Jason Butchrell, and Maximus Fisher, as we take a look at the latest
episode of Daryl Dixon, Season 3.
The Chance Encounter provides a potential way home is the show description.
Darrell makes a tough decision.
And Jason is on special assignment, so he won't be joining us for this episode.
Unfortunately.
I can't tell you what he's doing because, well, then I'd have to do bad things for you.
I don't want to do that.
Yeah, you heard the plane coming over.
That's what could happen if I tell you exactly where he is.
That's just a reminder.
Maximus, welcome to the show.
We're back with Season 3, Daryl Dixon.
First thoughts.
I thought it was pretty good.
I'm happy the show's back.
I missed the Walking Dead universe.
And the first episode of Season 3 did not disappoint me.
Yeah, I was really happy with it.
I mean, first of all, they spent a ton of money on it,
and the visuals were fantastic.
No question.
I'm a little, as we get into it, I expected more from this episode as far as where we got to at the end of this episode.
I mean, there's seven episodes for this season three.
And we found out during the break between two and three that there's only going to be four seasons.
And then that's going to be it.
They're going to wrap up.
So, you know, I mean, we need to get to it.
And, you know, we'll get into that a little bit.
But as, you know, as we, the show kicked off, they are in the UK.
And the opening quote is, I have my dead and I have to let them go, which is a quote from this R.M.
R.M. Rilke, who, I mean, who hasn't read R.M. stuff.
But me, I have not.
But I like the quote.
And, you know, we have the, you know, the big, the theme, the underlying theme of the entire show was this can of hot dogs that Carol has, which, okay.
I love that.
I thought that was good.
First of all, we're not eating canned hot dogs.
Okay.
You take what you can get here.
I know.
I know.
And if you're, you know, if you've been fighting walkers and it's, you haven't had food in a while, yum, yum, how about some canned hot dogs?
I got it.
So, I mean, they're saving it for a special occasion.
That's the whole underlying theme of the show.
That special canned hot dogs.
But, you know, I did the opening scene as they're getting into London.
No people.
No walkers.
Just the visuals of coming into London.
Pretty cool.
It was pretty good.
Then as we get into London, obviously you catch where there are.
definite signs of
walkers. We had a
great scene in the city
on the streets with
a walker caught in one of
the phone booths that you definitely
don't see anymore and I would, I've
always wanted to have one of those UK giant
phone booths. Awesome.
I never have owned one, but I want one bad
still. And then they have
these
they're not shrub walkers
but they're... I like calling
them that though. They're
They're walkers that have let weeds and brush and bushes grow through them and grow.
You see the roots growing through the walkers.
It was really cool.
Pretty awesome.
And of course, we have to kill them.
And they're the warning.
And then there's a huge herd coming in now because they're.
Giant herd because they've been alerted because they're apparently very few people,
if any, left in London.
When they go into the city, you see that they're passing through Westminster.
to a checkpoint.
So they've pretty much locked off the city.
That's why the tunnel was locked off.
I mean, what the premise was is that London, in particular, just locked off from the rest of the world.
Kind of like New York, actually.
Kind of like Dead City.
Although less people survived, which is really weird.
Because then we find out after they, well, they break into this apartment complex, this apartment building, which, you know.
Find a hanging walker.
they're being chased by the herd, the horde of walkers.
And, you know, they find an apartment, which is a beautiful apartment.
I mean, I would love to live there now.
And, of course, we have the first one we see is the hanging walker, the person who killed
themselves in the apartment.
You figure that's the only one.
Nope.
Oh, there's a couple more in the apartment as well.
There was one in the kitchen.
There's a couple more in the building.
And so we have to fight those off, which was, you know, fun.
And that's when to get into the apartment.
the apartment, they, for some reason, after all this time, there was a fire extinguisher on the wall.
I know.
Just go with it.
Just go with it.
Everything, everything.
Who uses fire extinguisher?
Everything else is missing, but we're going to leave that.
Okay.
All right, fine.
And so that gets them into the apartment.
And so we have the fire extinguisher.
So Carol is able to kill the one walker with the fire extinguisherer, which is why we had it in the hallway
to begin with.
Duh.
And then Darrell killed the one with the plaque on the wall.
Yeah, that was good.
We killed the hanging walker who finally hung down, fell down from his noose and started attacking them.
So then, you know, they're stuck there because the street that the apartment building is on is now full of walkers and going nowhere because they're like, we know there's someone live in this building and we're here.
We're making noise and we're ready to go, which was pretty incredible.
And so they're stuck there.
And, you know, the scene grows to where they've been there for a couple of days.
And they're starting to get antsy.
They want to go.
They're starting to get really antsy.
It's been a couple of days.
But they've got to try to figure out a way to get out of there.
And they're actually talking about, well, at least we go down and fight.
I mean, we've got to try to get out of here.
And then they see a, uh, Daryl sees what, which then he smashes the mirror and goes out and tries to signal back to where the reflection is coming from.
And, uh, they just figure it.
It's nothing.
It's no big deal.
But as they're sitting there that night,
and I found it interesting,
they had started a fire in the fireplace.
Well, somewhere along the line,
somebody's going to see that smoke coming out of the smokestack, right, in the building?
No?
Well, if no one's there, then no.
Okay.
All right, all right.
Because as we find out, literally, like one minute later,
there is one person in London.
Right.
And enter Julian.
And he comes in.
It was awesome.
He was climbing up above,
and then he drops down onto the patio
and into him.
It was really,
and I guess he was,
you know,
the last man standing in London
was Julian,
which was Julian Chamberlain,
by the way,
no relation to Neville Chamberlain.
Nobody knows that reference.
He even says that kind of an obscure reference.
Yeah,
no kidding.
And he brought food.
He brought some animals
that he had hunted dead to cook up.
But I thought,
okay, nice.
Yeah, this guy's nice.
That's the way you visit.
And we get.
a hint of this earlier in the episode
with the sign, like
beware the squid or something.
As we find out, we have a new name for walkers.
That's the list. Squid.
Yeah, that was awesome because as they were walking in,
they saw the sign beware the squid, and Darrell's like,
whatever.
And so that we find out from Julian that
that's what they were
calling walkers was the squids.
And then he gives some
rhyme that
got you to calling them
squids, which was just some
convoluted weird rhyme.
I'll try to memorize it for next week because it's really convoluted.
And I, but it's, you know, just to get you to why they were called squid.
And I don't know, as we get into the episode, of course, we meet Julian.
And he tells some stories about what happened while he was there.
And, you know, of course, when they locked off the city and everything was manageable for a while
until it wasn't.
and then as they're talking, he's talking about still having a boat,
and that's when Daryl and Carol and Carol are like on the same wavelength, like,
okay, well, this is our way out of here.
We're trying to get back to America.
He's got a boat.
We've got to talk him into coming with us and giving us a ride back to America,
which they eventually do.
And he gets up and says, okay, well, I'll meet you tomorrow morning, 10 a.m.
And wait, how do we know that it's 10 a.m.?
You'll know.
because you'll know.
And of course, they're in London.
And when you went in London, how do you tell time?
Well, the bell rings on Big Ben.
And that's what you know.
That's when you know it's 10 a.m.
And that's what, you know, they hear the bells going off at Big Ben
and the herd moves headed toward the bell sounds.
So, I mean, even Darrell was like, smart.
That's a good move.
And so then they, you know, meet up and head to the boat that he's got tied up
and saved.
by the river and we get the sailboat ready to go and they're ready to sail the ocean blue
from london to america no problems though right i mean and that's the end of the show
no i did enjoy while they were leaving the city as they were sailing out of the city and they're
going underneath the bridges uh the bridges were full of these walkers on the side i don't
understand why none of them when they saw the live bodies and smelled the live bodies why they
didn't jump off of the bridges.
I mean, they, I mean, walkers don't jump, but they could fall off the guardrail.
But they fall off.
Yeah, okay.
Jump is not a correct term, but they would have gotten so worked up that they would
have continued to try to get to them.
We've had, you know, walkers in the water before, and it just was strange to me that
that didn't happen.
But again, oh, well, it's just that we have to go with it.
That's the way the Walking Dead world works.
So, all right, fine, no problem.
And then so we're out on the ocean sailing away and everything is going fine.
And Julian's trying to figure out where they're at.
And he claims that he's done his ciphering on the navigation and that he doesn't understand why,
but they were right on course and everything was fine.
Okay.
We're good to go.
We'll be in America within 20 days.
And then since there's no hurricane warning, of course there's a giant storm.
And of course there is.
Duh, they're in the middle of the ocean.
And so they try to batten down the hatches,
and they cannot batten down the hatches
because one of the sails is stuck,
and then the boom comes swimming around,
and nails Julian in the head,
and knocks him out and gives him a concussion,
and Darnier kills him.
And so now she's down in the belly of the sailboat.
He's the only one that really knows how to sail.
And we have Daryl and Carol just trying to stay alive.
and, you know, float through the storm.
And then we have a...
Tadda.
And then it cuts to where somewhere on low tide,
the boat's stranded.
Daryl and Carol are on the beach knocked out.
Julian nowhere to be found.
Right.
And hence the name of the show, Costa de Morte,
that's where they landed.
Because that's, they have been,
it's famous for all kinds of shipwrecks throughout the years.
and it is in Spain.
It is not in America.
It's not in America.
It's not in Greenland.
It's not in Newfoundland.
It's in Spain, which kind of the other direction.
But hey, that's where we ended up.
We're in Spain.
They don't know that yet.
They're just trying to figure out where they're at.
And, you know, Carol is hurt.
Carol is actually wounded, but she got, you know, dinged in the head and got hurt really bad.
And we find out.
later that she also has a giant wound
down the back of her right shoulder.
With like a piece of shrapnel in it.
But, uh,
so they're trying to get their bearings and find out where they're at and maybe see about
fixing the boat.
And, uh,
they,
Julian's nowhere to be found.
As Max said,
well,
Carol finds Julian,
uh,
he's dead.
And he's a walker.
I liked Julian too.
He was a good character.
I was hoping he'd stick around.
Yeah,
he got,
uh,
almost a full episode.
Almost a full episode as a character.
So,
then we got to heal up.
We got the stuff on the boat and Carol's wounded,
so we've got to do a quick field operation on her
and pull out some metal shrapnel that was in her shoulder.
And we've got that, and hopefully she'll be fine.
Then...
Like riders.
All of a sudden we have this group of people that are hunters,
some kind of hunters there, come up on the beach,
and they find the boat.
And Daryl and Carol have got to hide
because we're not sure about these people at all.
Daryl sees them coming up from the little mountain ridge above.
Did they're running like animal skulls?
They have torches.
They're riding horses.
So we don't know who these people are at all.
Who they belong to, who they're part of, nothing.
Really kind of strange.
And they obviously raid the boat and take all the,
that they can from the boat,
but they don't see Daryl and Carroll.
And so then Daryl and Carol have to, you know,
get their stuff together as best they can
and walk to find a place to go
where they're at, a place to hide, whatever,
instead of being on the beach underneath some rocks.
And they come across a sign
that talks about the park that they're at,
which is this Spanish, Spain,
state or country park.
So they know they're in Spanish.
They find a shed, this run-down shed to at least give them a little bit of shelter to rest.
And, you know, Carol is recuperating from her wounds, passes out finally after they try to stay awake so she doesn't, you know, doesn't suffer from the concussion.
And as she's passed out, Daryl goes food hunting.
And on his way back, he comes across some military people, or at least people in a military Humvee.
driving the roads of the park and he's going to come back and get darrell or get carol and in the meantime
carol has uh has woken up from her slumber and uh she disappears so where the heck is carol
and we see darrell he sees the humvee he runs to the shed she's gone and he's calling
her name by the river and we then that's how the episode ends yeah and that's what i expected
I wanted a little bit more, you know, from the ending.
It's set up. It's set up.
I know. I got it.
Because next week,
it looked good.
La Friendra is the name of the show, meaning offering.
So that's when we're going to start meeting the people and find out where these people came from and what's happening in the future.
Now, I was looking.
There's seven episodes in season three.
So, I mean, they've got to get to it.
They've got to get, they've got to move on and get to it.
So we've got to meet some new rulers.
we've got to meet some bad people
and we've got to try to figure out a way
to get back to America and not die.
And so that's where we're at.
Yay!
The Walking Dead's back.
I'm really happy that Daryl Dixon
season three is back.
And it's good to have them back.
It really does feel like it's good to have them back.
For a long time, Carol really irked me.
And she's, she's,
still Carol, but she doesn't irk me as much as she used to.
So I kind of, you know, I let it go.
Yeah, I really enjoyed this episode.
It was good having it back.
It's been quite a few months since the end of Dead City, so it's just been a while.
Happy it's back.
Can't wait to see how this season goes.
And I also have a prediction on how this show is going to end if season four is the ending.
Okay, we had to season four, right, because we were told at Comic Con, I believe.
I think it was
in San Diego
Comic Con
that season
four has been
renewed
I mean they're
going to make it
and in fact
that they're probably
already filming it
and it's going to be it
no more
no more Daryl Dixon
My idea for season
three
season four is ending
that will end the whole show
Darrell and Carol
are going to go back
to Alexandria
they'll reunite
with Ash and Laurent
and they might
bring someone
from Spain with them
who knows
and the final
shot of the show will be a reunion
between Rick and Daryl
that we've been wanting to see for years
and then that's how the show ends. The end,
roll credits and the end
of the show will be
the camera shot
of all the headstones of all the people
we lost throughout the
years. Wow. I think we've just
done it for them. You're welcome
Walking Dead. So we'll
see you back here next week.
Hopefully with Jason. Jason should be here.
I wish I could tell you. I
you where he was at, but I can't because
it's a secret mission.
But hopefully he will
be back and I'm sure he'll have some
thoughts about this episode and
next week's episode
The Afrienda.
