Season 5, episode 2 of Fear of the Walking Dead titled The Hurt that Will Happen, and that makes this Talking Fear.
Welcome to it.
Yours truly Jeff Fisher, along with Jason Butchrell on Talking Fear, episode 2, the IMDB description, Morgan and Alicia, meet a survivor and learn of a grave new walker threat.
The mission is put to the test when one of their own goes missing.
Strand makes contact.
Jason, welcome to.
Talking Fear.
Yep.
How you doing this week?
Man, I'm sunburned to all health.
It's bad, dude.
Were you down in Austin where they were filming?
No, actually, I should have stopped by.
Because we drove right through it.
Say, hey, what's going on?
Hey, what's up?
Maybe offer some writing.
Offer some writing.
Offer to say, hey, you need an extra walker?
Yeah.
You like someone that kind of knows what they're doing in writing some of these episodes?
Because I don't, but I instantly have more experience than your writers.
Boy, it seems that way.
It was great to see my man Daniel back.
I love him.
Yeah, I got something on that.
Okay.
The reason we like Daniel, I figured it out.
Because I didn't get to watch this until last night.
But I was like, this is why I like him.
He is the only one that acts with any sense and is actually like, I don't know, smart in this world.
Yeah, it seems that way.
Like maybe, you know, it's probably not a good idea to like, hey, let's go just.
jump in a plane even though no one knows how to fly it.
And let's just see if it works out.
And then maybe it's not a good idea from like some random dude we met on the radio,
you know,
that we should just go and help him out just because he sounds like a nice guy.
And maybe it's not a good idea just to go off walking to find somebody you just
realized it's alive,
but you have no weapons.
Right.
You're just off walking.
I don't understand that.
And we survived.
We're supposed to believe that you made it.
However long that distance is, you know, Strand is just out walking.
on around and however long the distance between him and where Daniel was, he just walked
and, you know, if he needed a rock, he picked one up and killed a walker.
Other than that, he was fine.
Yeah, I didn't even notice that.
Yeah, he was out there all with nothing.
No transportation, no weapon, no nothing.
No transportation, no weapon, no nothing.
He's fine.
Do you find it weird that a dam explodes and then there's like some kind of like wormhole
that transported every single person on that dam to Texas within like the same county?
Oh, that's where the flood went.
I don't know if you know that.
He didn't see the news reports.
Oh, no.
Because that's where the flood went.
Okay.
The flood water just directed that one point.
It came through and then it just woke all the way right into Texas.
I don't know.
I think I like my wormhole theory better.
Come on, man.
Everyone, every single person.
Whatever.
Like, I'll have some, what was a suspension of disbelief on that?
Because at least finally there's someone with some sense.
Yes.
With the group.
It does seem that way.
And really, he's not with the group yet, although it's good to have him back and he's going to end up being with them, of course.
Totally.
you know, it was good to have him just be there.
Right.
And you knew when he was asking for the plane, he's not going to give you the plane.
You're lucky I let you in this place.
You think I'm going to give you a vehicle?
He literally just led him in there to grovel.
Right.
It's literally the only reason and to hold a gun at his head.
That was the only reason.
As I loved as they were walking into the garage, don't touch anything.
Yeah.
He's got a sweet set up there.
No doubt about it.
Tons of cars.
He's got the Jay Leno garage there in Austin.
The Jay Leno garage, exactly.
Yeah.
All by himself.
Elf him and the cat.
Skin mark.
Yeah, skin mark.
I know that there were some people saying that if the cat dies, we riot.
Are you serious?
Yeah, they were still, they were on the animal love all of a sudden.
This is supposed to be like dog.
Yeah.
And they shut up.
Yeah.
Shut up.
No, sorry.
They're not going to take that.
Come on, man.
I will say this, though, that you, since you watched it on your VCR.
What is the hell?
Whatever recording device you used.
You probably fast-forwarded through the first commercial.
Yeah.
But did you see where they actually have a sponsor now of the show?
No.
I mean, Morgan read the spot brought to you by Volkswagen.
Seriously?
That was that first ad, sponsorship.
No kidding.
Okay.
I mean, it was a read, a Morgan Reed sponsorship into that Volkswagen ad.
Really?
I got to go back and look at that.
And the Volkswagen ad was great.
I mean, it was all about how they are,
They came up with the electric Volkswagen van.
Yeah.
You know, it was, it was, you know, it's got the Simon and Garfunkel song, Sounds
of Silence and stuff.
And it was just a cool commercial.
But I just, I love the idea that sponsorship.
Okay.
So maybe, okay, so it's interesting for two things.
For one, they actually have people that are interested in buying ad revenue.
Right.
Because that's got to be, is it more expensive?
Oh, my gosh.
A live read into that spot?
For sure, right?
because they're paying that actor specifically.
Yeah.
Which would come with a hefty price tag.
Absolutely.
But so it's interesting for that, that they think they have that much money to do that
in interest.
But I don't know this is as interesting to the audience, but it's got to be people like
you and me.
Because like the ad business is changing, like exponentially.
Like how do you get people with all these VCRs that can just fast forward through all
these commercials?
Like how do you get them to watch?
You got to do it.
I mean, they hooked me for live.
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
And I watched it live.
So I had to sit through them, which is, you know.
I would have been fine with it, though.
And now I'm, now I am going to go back and watch it, actually.
Yeah, it was, it was cool.
The rest of them were just, you know, promos and the rest of the other commercials and stuff
for the regular commercial break.
But they just had the one.
It's brought to you by Volkswagen.
But if they do that for every single commercial break.
It's a lot of revenue.
Yeah, different people, more revenue.
And you'll actually get people wanting to watch it.
Plus, speaking of more revenue and less revenue, there was no show that follows after
fear.
I know this is talking fear
and I joke around about
the show but the show is actually called
Talking Dead.
All right on AMC.
Chris Hardway.
And it's a great show
but it's a AMC show.
It's nothing but profit for them.
I mean, we go inside the business on that.
That show is in a room the size of your bedroom.
All right, they bring in the stars.
All the ad revenue goes to AMC.
They make it, they have, I'm sorry,
it's as big as your maybe living room
because they have brought in a couple of
seats for a live audience that they bring in once in a while to ask questions and give free prizes
to. I mean, that's nothing but money for AMC or that's easy money for them. Whatever they pay
Hardwick, you know, whatever. But that wasn't on and they, I guess it's not coming back now
until like the midseason finale or whatever. It's over? For fear. During fear and then it's not going to
be on after every show through fear. I don't understand that. That's, uh, I haven't,
I haven't done, I've been looking for an AMC whisperer.
So if there's an AMC whisperer that,
deep throat, that knows what's going on.
You know, you can email me at Chewing the Fat at the Blaze.com,
or you can call 888-903-33.
Or just message me on Twitter at Jeffrey JFR.
But I'd like to know what the heck is going on
because that's a lot of money.
I wonder if they're doing, are they,
because I know they have that Nosferatu show.
Right.
They've really, you know, they've really promoted their, you know,
they always have some big new show now coming on after dead or fear.
But maybe there's two shows.
Maybe they're going to debut another show.
I haven't really.
I don't know.
That's something I think of because, yeah, they're losing out.
No, because they replayed fear.
Really?
Right after.
Yeah, they just replayed fear again.
Wow.
I don't know.
That makes no sense.
It makes zero sense.
I mean, maybe Chris told them, look, if I can't go right after the show, it's not worth
my time.
I could see that.
They're like, this damn Volkswagen ads way too freaking expensive.
we can't afford to pay Chris Hardwick.
I mean, maybe that's it.
But they didn't buy it.
They're getting the money for it.
They can afford that.
Right?
Maybe there's too much money on the movies.
I don't know.
I mean,
it just seems like that's a big part of the dead team that goes away, right?
If it's supposed to,
I mean, that's supposed to be air after every show.
Yeah.
That's a big part of the broadcast.
That's, you know, between Walking Dead and Fear of the Walking Dead.
That show is an arm of that.
You know, I mean, that's a big arm of that.
And for that not to be around it, that's, that's got to be, there's got to be more to it or not.
So again, AMC Whisperer.
Yeah.
And there's, these like, these shows that have such a rabid fan base, like they don't want it to end when the shows, when the 60 minutes is over.
They want to see people talk about it.
Right.
Even if it's not like original content.
They just want to see people talking.
I mean, not theatrical content.
They still want to hear people talk about it.
Like, Game of Thrones, like the HBO did something very similar.
But it was like a web-based thing.
Did you ever watch that?
I watched a little bit of HBO stuff,
but The Ringer was the one that was the best
for Game of Thrones.
Their website, The Ringer, did a whole thing.
I mean, that was a week-long thing,
and then they did a live show,
broadcast live immediately following all the Game of Thrones,
which was really good.
They really put a great production on for that.
Now, I'd like to say to AMC,
if there's a problem with Chris Hardwick,
that bastard, I never liked him either.
And, you know, if you want to call me,
I'm pretty sure that Jason and I could work out
some kind of financial arrangement,
with you to do the show for you.
Yeah, I mean, call us, you know?
I mean, we're reasonable men.
We're very familiar with cameras and how television and radio works, so I'm ready to go.
We're very familiar with live audiences.
I'm all for it.
I'm all there for you.
We've watched the show, so we, you know, at least have some knowledge base.
We do have a knowledge base of the entire thing.
Okay, we also have knowledge that Chris Hardwick is a bastard.
Yes.
And whatever he's asking for is way too much money.
way too much. He's such a prima donna.
I mean, I mean, I mean, stone cold bastard, I would actually, I'd go as far to say.
Not just straight bastard. So, you know, AMC. call me.
All right. So we go back to the show, Fear of the Walking Dead. I was, I don't know that
I certainly didn't enjoy this episode as much as the first one. That's for sure.
I'm the stupidity of, you know, do they not understand the buddy system?
You know, like, that's a pretty basic thing.
Everyone's saying, hey, I'm just going to go out by myself and check this out.
And they keep doing it.
Plus, the premise is stupid.
Like, I couldn't get over that as well.
Like, hey, let's just go help.
You know, it's just so eye-roly, I roll, you know, I don't know.
It's like, every time Morgan goes off on these long, you know, sermons about how we have to go help people.
I'm just like, no, you don't.
No, you don't.
Shut up.
And there's no one sitting there going, no, Morgan, you don't have to.
do that. Yeah, you don't. You've got your
group if people come by and
let them come in, you know what I mean? Or something like
that you don't. Talk to them and we'll see what they're like and then
we'll be okay with it. But we don't have to go
look for it. Yeah, it's like they're trying to make them
into the, you know, the zombie
apocalypse Avengers, you know, where they go
out and jump on the invisible
plane and whatever, you know,
and the buddy system works well, right?
Because then we had another, we had
another strands off on his own.
Al is off on her own,
which then again gets, you know,
She was last week, it gets, gets kidnapped.
And then we had your girl.
Luciana, they just left her alone.
And she was putting out again.
Okay, so she's in the building.
And she hears the wind knock over the tower, which stop it.
But she's just going to go outside.
She's all by herself, but she's going to go outside to check it out.
Yeah.
No.
What are you going to do anyway?
You're going to do nothing.
You're on these drugs.
You know, like, what do you?
I mean, this is just stupid.
Barely on drugs, let alone, I mean, you're not, I mean, you're living on drugs that
have been outdated for a year and not that many, right?
So it's not you're on top of the pain and the injury that you have.
So, I mean, you're just surviving right now, trying to heal up.
And you're going to go outside?
Yeah.
And then when they charge you, wouldn't your first reaction be, okay, I'm going to run back inside?
I got to go.
I got to go.
No, she's going to take this six shooter and try to, like, take them all down.
I'm like, what are you doing?
This is stupid.
I just can't get over the stupidity.
I know.
I did not get that either.
I did not understand the stupidity at all.
You know, there's like, you can like have a show that has like conflict and it's like
believable.
But you then you can, but this is manufactured conflict.
It's like they're like these like these tent situations that didn't, don't have to be.
You know, it's like it's just brought on because they're dumb.
That's, that's not real.
conflict. I will say, you're right, although I will say, perhaps, because it's brought on conflict.
So let's say, let's say Luciana's in the building and she's talking on the radio and the microphone
goes dead because she hears the crash of the tower. And she knows that it's not the wind.
She's smarter than that. But let's just say she realizes, okay, someone has knocked it down.
and she thinks, well, if she stays inside and kind of hides,
perhaps whatever is out there that's looking to attack will try to get in.
At least if she goes out, she at least is putting up some kind of fight.
So then what happens is right.
She goes back inside, passes out, and then wonders what happens to the walkers.
And they're all dead.
And AMC is selling more of their Halloween heads hanging from the billboard,
which, by the way, I'm AMC again, a million-dollar idea.
which you could give us a cut of that when we're doing the show for you.
If those show up at Halloween stores, I'm going to be pissed because we don't get a cut.
That's way too much money for them to pass up, not doing that.
But so it's just so strange that through the manufacturer.
Now let's go to Morgan and what's your face out there in the...
Alicia.
In the zone of dead.
The exclusion.
The apocalypse of nuclear warfare.
We got our answer because I didn't know if those were real nuclear signs.
Right.
The signs were right.
Now, it is real.
And her, the head lady who's out trying to find the 63 people or whatever.
Really?
And she doesn't know about the soldiers or the other.
I'm kind of confused on that.
I don't know that I buy that.
Okay.
Yeah.
And for one, can we.
dress her choice in weaponry? I'm not talking about the pistol. What is that, what do you call
that stupid little thing? Like that thing, she's like, you know, that thing like flew around and like
latches under their ankles? Oh yeah. Yeah. I'm like, where do you even get that? Was there like a,
I don't know, a prehistoric like caveman? Yeah, no, what happened is, is when the flood came
from the dam, from the dam at that, those weapons all were, were on earth. That was from the actual
flood.
Yes. I was like,
is she like, is this like a David
versus Goliath, you know, like, weapon
of choice thing? She's going to break out a sling next.
I was like, where do you even get?
Does she practice?
Was this?
Like, nobody just uses that.
Right?
You know, hey, I know how to use that.
My weapon of choice is the, I'm just going to call it a bolo.
I don't know.
The bolo trip thing device.
What are those called? Yeah.
I don't, you know, that's a good question.
What are those called?
I mean, it's just like the rope tripping device.
The rope tripping device.
The rope tripping device.
I'm not sure what those are called.
But, okay, while you're looking up that,
but we know that Morgan lost his stick, which was sad,
I'm going to get that back.
And she says, no, I mean,
I find that we're so upset over a little bit of radiation.
The world, look around.
What do you look around what you're,
what's going on around?
A little bit of radiation is not going to hurt me.
Yeah, I don't, yeah, I don't.
I will say that the,
the nuclear walkers was kind of cool.
Yeah, I mean, it was good to see something different
a little bit on the walkers.
I've never seen that before.
Yeah, that was cute.
Kind of interesting is I remember,
was it Kirkman that said at one point
that they were going to unleash or show a walker,
a very specific walker in fear
that would change the game for both shows
or something along those lines?
Oh, yeah.
I don't know that this is it though, right?
I don't know.
I was like, I wonder if it's something like
that or if it's like the walker
that Al found with the
armor on, maybe that was the
walker, you know, that just kind of hints
towards the other community.
Right, because in the comic books, right,
Negan has weaponized the
blood. Yeah. Right, in the comic
books, he weaponizes the blood. We've never got
to that yet in Walking Dead.
Yeah, we did.
Where they've weaponized the blood? Wait, didn't we?
I don't know that we've got to that point
yet. Have we? Where he
was using, where he was shooting people,
with the blood to infect them?
Yeah, right.
Yeah, we did get to that.
Okay.
Pretty sure.
Okay.
And you're right,
Molo's,
right?
That's what they're called.
Yeah,
the rope thing that twists around your feet.
Right.
Bolo's,
yeah.
It's literally like a,
like a medieval weapon or something like that.
And those are everywhere.
After floods from dams,
yeah.
They're under the ground buried.
They're everywhere.
They show up.
Yeah, either that or in a nuclear power plant.
You know,
they just had those on the wall along with like the big coat that you get in that doesn't,
you know,
and they mask.
Oh, don't forget your Bola.
Just in case you have to trip somebody.
What are you talking about?
That was the most random thing.
It sure was.
That was so strange.
And I don't know that I could really.
I mean, I get her story, but I really don't understand how she doesn't know about the others.
If she's been out there for a while, right?
She's been there for a while.
She was at the plant when it all fell.
And she was been at the plant looking for the people who.
who got infected and trying to get them back and trying to save the area and keep people out.
What?
Yeah.
You would think that she'd have more knowledge of that entire area.
Yeah.
And she'd have an idea of who's hanging the heads and who's blocking the road.
And that all isn't her.
Yeah.
And they, yeah.
And they tease that and I guess the teaser for next week where they showed like there
was a perimeter.
Yes.
That it started to.
You started to see the perimeter.
Yes.
So she would definitely have some kind of clue.
You would think that, okay, that's a no-go area because there's people in there that are doing some very freaky things with Walker corpses.
Right.
She would definitely see them.
Yes.
Obviously.
Or she'd be a part of it.
And what's weird is they're obviously not, they don't want to kill this, like indiscriminately, right?
Because otherwise they would just take out Luciana.
Yeah, why not?
She's there by herself.
It's gone.
Have a nice day.
So what the heck are these people about?
I don't know.
So that's probably one of the most interesting things in the show right now is just that mystery.
Yeah.
They better pay it off after that.
You know, it better be interesting.
They have to.
Look, and also I love the never-ending walkies.
I mean, everyone has a walkie.
Everybody knows what channel they're on.
You never know who's listening, but everybody's got a walkie here, have one.
I mean, Strand is out walking around by himself.
He's got a, why everybody's got this never-ending.
No weapon, but he's got a walkie.
He's got a walkie and it's continually.
charged. That's a good life.
Yeah. And with insane
range, might I add as well.
Except when you need it.
He could be the other side of the country and talking to Morgan like they're having
like they're having lunch together across the table. But he's in trouble.
Oh, it's not working.
Oh, no.
Just pretend it's you're not in an emergency situation.
Pretend you were to ask me about what's on the menu at McDonald's today.
It'll work.
It'll work fine then.
Yeah, but she was like Morgan asked, Morgan told that, like, nuclear chick was like, yeah, well, we're just a walkie, you know, talk away.
You know, just give us a ring.
You know, we're the walkie.
What?
Like, you had to get a plane to make it here.
How was a freaking walkie talkie?
Gonna make it to wherever we came from.
They did, we did, a couple people need to die and Daniel needs to just take over.
Dude.
Would Daniel be like, would, what, would you?
When the subject would come up at the table there, and Daniel Salazar sitting there,
and they're like, hey, we just met this random dude on the, on the radio, you know, and he wants us
to come help him out and we should try to fly a plane, even though none of us know how to fly.
Daniel would be the lone voice in a sink going, uh, are you stupid?
That's not going to happen.
Yeah, no, not while I'm here.
I'm sorry, guys.
Listen to yourselves.
Let's back up just a little bit.
I know.
He's the only smart one in the entire show.
I also like the backup.
I also liked the little bit of the talk between John and what's her face,
who I still not quite sure I like.
What's a, yeah.
Gracie or Gray, whatever her name has.
Her name has changed so many times.
I can't.
Do you mean the actress's name?
It doesn't matter.
Whoever plays her.
But they found the car that was three quarters to take a gas.
and she brings up lots of kids.
Right.
They just have got.
Oh my gosh.
There's keys and gas.
Keys, gas, tires.
You know, the interior looks pretty good.
We don't just take this day.
That air conditioner works because if it's not,
hell no.
I think we'll take it.
I think we'll take it.
So if she jokes around about plenty of seats for kids.
Come on.
Stop it.
Okay.
That was not the time.
That's why we're out here to save people.
and have, all right.
Good gosh.
I think if these cars are in such abundance with full tanks of gas,
and why don't I need this plane and all this stuff?
Just load them up in the car.
Just drive.
Why is, why is, what's his name?
More, not Morgan, a other guy that went to meet Salazar.
Oh, yeah, Strand.
Strand.
Why does this have a car?
Why does this jump in their semi-truck and drive there?
The truckers are still there, right?
Yeah, the truckers are still around somewhere.
Just all jump in the semi-truck and drive.
go get them.
I mean, well, the semi-truck can't just go anywhere because it's got to stick with the
handicapped guy.
That's the only handicapped vehicle they have.
Oh, that's the only handicap accessible vehicle?
Okay, okay.
That makes sense.
I mean, okay, so overall, the episode, you know, look, I'm enjoying the fear episodes.
I hope we're not going to start stretching my beliefs beyond what they already did.
Because, I mean, that was what the thing that made, that makes things.
the show's good is that you have the one or two, maybe three or four characters that you know
aren't going to die, but they're going to get into predicaments that are going to have to
survive and it's going to take your stretch of the imagination for them to survive. And when they do,
you go, yeah, that's right. Yeah. The rest of the people, if they go, they go. Yeah. If they get into a
situation, you go, oh, man, too bad you aren't Rick. Bye, dead. Right. Oh, darn, no luck. Too bad you're
not Morgan, dead. Yeah, I don't, yeah, I don't, they're getting, what sucks is the way the shows
are shot and, like, they've got some pretty good actors signed on now. And, like, I don't know.
Like, it should be better. It really should. And I haven't really had too much issue besides the,
them acting really dumb. And it really not really not making any sense.
sense. I haven't had too big of an issue of like, like, I guess, I'm more pissed off at the
story and I'm, but I'm kind of been impressed with like some of the walkers, some of the death
scenes, some of the, you know, action sequences have been done really well. But the story
makes absolutely no sense. You're right about the walkers, too. He did, what's, Kirkman did talk about
something that was good. I don't know if it was Kirkman or if it was the other Dingleberry.
Mr. Smarty Pantz, who runs it all now. Talked about the walkers that were going to change the
way we look at walkers or whatever.
Whoever it was a gimpel?
It might have been him.
Maybe it was him.
Maybe it was him.
He said he goes, I got to make sure I'm not going to get in trouble here, but we're
going to be showing one walker in particular, one type of walk or something like that
that's going to change everything.
And maybe it was the soldier one.
Possibly.
Or maybe it was the soldier one because she was looking at the wires of the suit and
stuff that we didn't get a full look at that, right?
Yeah.
Maybe it was the suited up ones.
I'm kind of disappointed.
I was hoping to see a little bit more on that.
Me too.
Is the owl actress, have you read anywhere that she's off the show?
No.
I don't think so.
I think she's just, they're out trying to find her, right?
So they've got to, somebody else is going to have to come along that at least makes us know where she's at.
Right?
We're going to have to catch someone, Morgan, Morgan, or Alicia's going to have to catch someone
that is with that group that lets us know where Al is and what's going on.
She might not be, we might not see her, but we have to know where she's at, right?
I could see them pulling her from the show, though, and then taking her off and you don't
see her again to the movies.
We're paying Daniel.
We're paying Dwight.
We're paying Morgan.
We still got a leash her out.
I mean, the paychecks are still pretty big.
So, uh, ooh, Al, you just got kidnapped.
Sorry.
But she's, yeah, but, but, but,
She has like the acting chops and she's been in other,
she's got enough exposure to bring, you know,
excitement for the movies.
She was like,
she does.
She's been in several movies.
Yes, she does.
All I can think of right now is the Taken movies,
but she was been a lot of other stuff.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, she, yes, she's been in a number of stuff.
That's worthy of watching.
But yeah,
that would be a good addition to the miniseries.
Yes, it would.
For sure.
But I don't know.
I didn't,
I completely forgot about Dwight.
Completely forgot about Dwight.
He's going to show up here the next episode or two.
Why are they taking so long?
That's stupid.
I don't know.
I don't know.
But next episode is called humbug's gulch.
So we'll see if, I don't know, maybe this gulch, I believe gulches are created when dams explode.
And you create a giant gulch.
You call it whatever name you want, bah or humbug.
Thanks.
Yeah, I was about saying.
Just fit like a giant slip and slide to that bad boy.
And you go back and forth to Mexico at ease.
line and back.
The slip and slide is four states long.
Yes, it is.
Shut up.
That's exactly what it is.
Don't try to bog me down with facts.
Thanks for listening to Talking to Fear.
You got anything else?
I mean, I really, I'm looking forward to it being as good as the first episode.
This episode was not, but maybe we'll swing back into it the next couple weeks.
Stop acting so stupid.
Get everyone back together and focus on this mystery group.
which you still can save this season if they're really cool.
Thanks for listening to Talking Fear.
