Season 5, episode 3 and 4 of Fear of the Walking Dead, titled Humbugs Gulch and Skidmark. And that makes this Talking Fear. All right, welcome to it. Welcome to Talking Fear with myself and Jason Butchrell. Maximus Fisher sometimes shows up from time to time. In fact, Taylor's looking forward to being here next week. But we missed a week. I apologize.

That little issue at the house. It has just a little, you know, F1 tornado. Don't worry about it. Everybody's... It's gone. It's just... That's correct. It wasn't the whole roof either.

It was just a partial of the roof. And I'll tell that story on Chewing the Fat today. So be sure to subscribe to Chewing the Fat. You'll get this and that. Man, you don't get much better than that. I'll tell you that. All right, so two episodes. We missed two episodes on Talking Fear.

We'll start, we'll just kind of go down the list of we'll start with humbug's gulch from last week where June and Dory takes shelter to hide from a threat according to IMDB, but a misunderstanding with a desperate survivor leads to trouble. And it was, meanwhile, Alicia and Morgan faced a dangerous obstacle. That was last week. It was kind of cute, a little westerny. It was nice that they didn't know Dwight and we did. You know, kind of felt good. I don't know. I don't know how I feel about it.

Well, I thought it was kind of cool. The setup was kind of cool. The fact that, I guess my biggest issue with it was where the heck are they? Like, how is John? Thank you. Right? Like, are they traveling in circles? Like, oh, thank goodness.

You know, this dust storm, I just happened to be where I used to work. Well, then he said with June, like, she's, then it was like a franchise they were at, right? So he knew about it. They threw it off. Because I thought the same thing. I like, what? I mean, what are we? How are we knowing?

All of a sudden, well, we make a turn and we're, oh, that's where I used to work. A franchise? I didn't know. Yeah. It was like a franchise gulch thing. It's like six flags. Yeah. That's what I want.

Yeah. He said something to her in the street. Like, no, not here in particular, but, you know, the same kind of thing. Okay. So I felt like, well, that's kind of a sad. I mean, they just threw that out there. Like, well, yeah, we're, we're not. not traveling, but it's a different one. It's different ones. It's over here. Okay, whatever.

But so I thought the same thing when it first happened, you know, the, oh, it's Humbug Galtz. I just to work here. I know perfectly. Yeah. Well, okay, so my second issue with Humbug Gulch was they have, so they found this arsenal, right, in this place. Yeah, right, what she'd do about because of the franchise. And they, yeah, and then they keep live ammunition with blanks all in this one little cabinet thing. Right. No. It doesn't work that way. It does that the humbug's Galtz franchise.

That's how they run things. I don't know if you ever read the rules of the franchise. If you want to be a franchise franchise E, you got to follow the rules, bro. I tell you what, I ain't going anywhere near that franchise. Because there's some crazy crap that can happen at one of these places. What do you mean? If you keep live ammo with blanks? Oh, yeah.

Why could go wrong? You got that box of ammo instead of the other. That's why Dusty Bill Roberts is now not a lot. We keep losing horses here at the Huffles Gones. We don't know why. Really bad. So then I'm with you on that. Okay.

I didn't even think about that actually with storing together and the live and the blanks. I'm kind of nitpicking, but I guess I'm... Still, though, yeah. Yeah, that just didn't make any sense to me. Like, I don't know why this would be like the... Oh, yeah. Lucky for us. There's a huge armory at this franchise.

Well, right. I mean, he knew it was there, right? He was happy. He knew that. I mean, they were... It was like, well, we can get there. I just felt like, I don't know. Then they, you know, the whole, the whole having to be nice and saving one person at a time is none on me.

Oh, for sure. It's not on me. You mean the entire plot to this season? Yeah. The whole thing is not on me. For sure. The whole, we've got to save these people. And, you know, June and John, that's the reason we're here.

And I was gone. And we talked away down from the suicide watch and the. the car and I'll save you and, you know, just to just to get to the San Antonio split shot, all of that for just the San Antonio split shot. Oh, that was dope. That was dope, though. That was cool. You know, that's the San Antonio Split.

Okay. And you do they were going to get to it. I mean, she's asking them all the different shots when they were in the bars. They have the list of the different stop. Yeah. Actually, what's funny is I didn't even know. I didn't get at the time that that's what they were talking about trick shots. They were in a bar.

I thought they were talking about drinks. Oh, drinks, yeah. Until the very end. Yeah, but she had the sheet. Yeah. She had the sheet that showed the different shots. Oh, did it actually show like a... Yeah, I think so.

It had the list of the different shots, yeah. That blew past me. Okay. I completely missed it. Anyway, and so then we have, you know, Luciana and Alicia driving around trying to look for the stupid kids. And they're trying to mark the territory of where our Halloween yard is with the walkers and tied up with the guts.

The decorations. Yeah. And it's just a big circle. I mean, it doesn't take that. Rick would have had that figured out in about a day. Right. Let's go to, I don't know, the middle. Yeah.

It's just what is driving around, circling up. Connie Road 2. Connie Road 2. Connie Road 2. All right. Connie Road 2687. It's just a little crazy. Plus, I know that your girl, Luciana is, you know, fairly good looking female.

A little bit, a little bit. She has a last couple episodes I've noticed. She has some, how should I say, acting disabilities? Really? It's kind of, it's kind of annoying me. Well, I don't know if it's her. I wonder if it's just the writing in general and how, that could be.

Doesn't make, most of this doesn't make sense. And then like, the actors are like having to force out these lines that I just, I don't know. Oh, I like that. You know what? I take that back, Luciano, you're right. It's the writers. It's all their fault. Yeah, don't blame the hot chick.

It's much easier to blame the writer. I'm a fan of blaming the writers than the hot chick. No problem. Yeah, I don't, I'm trying to remember. So I'm trying to remember that far back. So in that episode, was that all they were doing, was just mapping out all those different? Yeah, I remember because Dwight showed up with John and June.

And then Luciana and Alicia were out. They had the road spikes in the road. They were looking for the kids. and then June and John were wasting, you know, trying to save Dwight. And then at the end, Morgan catches up with Luciana and Alicia. And they go, you know, to find the kids. And they find the van with the other little kid, right? That's right.

The kid is the Trojan horse supposed to be. So that's the episode that we found out the kids were the ones that were stringing up all the decorations? I don't know that we've, I don't know. Did we find out that episode or the next one? Because that's for sure the episode when they found the kid in the van, right? Wrapped with the guts. But because he was the Trojan horse. But I don't know if we found out he was the Trojan horse then or the beginning of the next episode.

I think it was that episode. Yeah. And then we showed the kids how they had their little, they had their system where they kind of had that little stick to push them. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So maybe it was that one. I mean, they're kind of blurred together now.

So I'm confused actually at the moment. So are they, I'm giving away too much for the next episode, but are these? We can roll into one because I blurred them together too because I watched them both at the same time because I missed last week. Yeah. And I didn't watch it. I didn't watch it live last week. Disappointingly, I'm very sorry. I apologize for that.

But so I watched them, you know, back to back this week. And so we can head into the next one. I mean, it doesn't matter the same one. But what are you confused about? So, okay, so we find out that all the, so like the three kids are part of a larger group, like this Children of the Corn gang. Right, right, right. So are there, so they're the ones trying to keep people out or they're just trying to

keep the grownups that are like in that helicopter with like the ones that took Rick? I think that's the case. They're trying to keep them out. I think that's the case, yes. Because these are the kids that we found out that they're the kids from the, from that campground or whatever, right? Okay, those are all those kids. and some of their parents were people who worked at the nuke plant, right?

Yeah. So, I mean, I'm guessing that's the case. So I think that, and then we, because they're not the, they're different from the people who took Al and the people who took Rick. Because they showed a guy, remember, they showed a guy on the road that the kids were hiding from that was part of that group. Right? Another soldier that was on the road. That's, you're saying that's different from the ones that took Alan Rick?

The people, the soldier on the road is the part of that team. The kids are separate from them. Right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, but so, so, so they've made this huge giant circle. The kids made the circular perimeter. Which they, which we figured out, which it took Alicia, Luciana and Morgan and the whole crowd weeks to figure out. Right.

We drive around on county roads and circle it off. So, okay. So, but, and they're scared of the bigger bad guys. Right. That's why I guess I just don't understand like why the bigger bad guys are hanging out around here and messing with these kids. I don't know either. There's got to be something more to that, right? They'll get to, it has to be. I hope so. So they'll get to that eventually. But this is like, I think I texted you while I was watching this. They are so setting up the. Well, that's the whole thing, right? I mean, that's the, that's the entire thing now. Just for the miniseries. Yes. Which is kind of, I don't know. I mean, I get doing a little bits and pieces of it. But like there's actually a good plot line that what happens? to that old dude that took their warehouse. You know what I mean?

And stranded them out here. Yeah. Like, nothing. He's just gone. So they just concede that. They've just moved down with him. We're not going to try to save him, I guess. Now we're just going to wander the world like Kane and Kung Fu and help people.

Right. Right. And when we find somebody that's still, that's not a walker, we'll help them, whether they want it or not, damn it. So are they ever going to go back and fight for that place? Why would they? I don't know. That guy just appeared and then he's done.

Right? We're just forgetting about him. That's why this is, see, all of this, the last two, three episodes seem like it's, it really should. How many is it four? Was that the fourth episode? Yeah. So like they've. Yeah, this is three and four.

Yeah. All of this is like maybe one episode. But they've stretched it out to half the season. What? Yeah. Right? Because then we get into this, you know, last night's episode with Daniel. Right, and which I enjoyed, I joined the heck out of Daniel.

Yeah. And, you know, he was, you knew that he knew that Charlie was in the back of the car. You knew that he wasn't going to let Victor sneak back into his where, sneak back into his safety zone. He knew it. I mean, he was aware of that. So that was good to see that he was like, no, Victor, I got the girl in the back. And you're not going back in.

So you're not getting the stuff. I've got your, I've got your playing parts. I got it all. also give me a break. He's so awesome. I know. He definitely awesome. I don't, too, I, I just have a, their plot this season sucks.

Let's just, let's just say it. Their plot sucks. I was really looking forward to a little bit, a little bit more. But they're, but a lot of their like sequences, like their Walker killing sequences, like with the plane and the props. That was dope, dude. Great stuff. And some of the killings, just even just some of the other, you know, hand-to-hand combat

killing have been great. And the humbug, the humbug episode? Yeah. That was cool, too. like when they were getting away from, see, that's like classic Walking Dead right there. That was good.

The problem is, again, they don't, we've said this before, they don't have the, the comics to fall back on for a plot, for an interesting plot line.

Right. So they're just completely making it up and hoping that it will be just compelling. And since we're there, and since we're just completely making it up, we might as well make it up to feed the miniseries, right? Yeah,

yeah. Let's just feed that. That's fine. Don't worry about it. That's, that's this side plot of finding these kids. and the Children of the Corn Gang is all been about setting up the miniseries.

Yeah. All of it. Yeah. Most definitely has. Three episodes, at least? Yeah. God. Yeah.

Three of the four, and maybe even all of them, really, if you go back and look at it, absolutely. That's insane. Yeah. So, and,

you know, so that we got, I enjoyed the, I enjoyed the Daniel scenes, the blues, the killer of the walkers, the check in the traps. You know,

I thought they were his traps. we find out they're not his traps, but I enjoyed Charlie knowing about the traps. You know, they kind of are, they've really started to make, which I like, because at one point I didn't like Charlie at all, the kid and why do we still have her around

and get rid of her loser? So they've really kind of, this episode, for sure, changed that momentum for her. I mean, it turned her into something that's... Likeable?

Yeah, something that you want, she want her to be around. She's smarter than you think. She knows a lot more than you think. She's willing to put it out there. I mean, it was worth it, you know. Yeah, yeah.

Yeah, I love, and I totally agree. I definitely feel differently about that character. Because before you know, why the heck is she even part of the show? Right. I loved the Skidmark scene where he puts the bell collar on Skidmark. And Skid Mark's all running around. Basically having the walkers kind of run in circles, teasing the stupid cat. That's somebody sat down and thought about that for a while.

I know. What can we do different, it's a distraction so Daniel can be like this, you know, bad A, you know, running around and kill things. Let's put a bill and a cat. What? Plus the Salvadorian military guy has got a trained the cat. We don't see that. We do not see that. I'm sorry.

Trained cat. Yeah, that's. Put that in the list for things for the Walker apocalypse when it happens, you know? You know, or train cats, man. He starts training up them cats now. Start training cats. So we're, so we've got Dan. Daniel back now into our fold, right?

We've saved him. We've kind of talked to him and Victor are not going to be friends, but they know where each other stand. They're not hostile, I guess. Yeah. That's the best one. Right, because he said, I'm not going to shoot you in the face. Good.

Let's go home and eat. Progress. I thought it was, I thought our truck drivers were smarter than that as they crashed the fences with the plane. You know, that's what killed the Walker deal. seemed that they could have, they could have still handled that. So is that the new base camp?

I guess for now, right? Is Daniel, we're going to have to, you know, maybe try to, you know, maybe the rest of the season, we're going to try to continue

to get the plane to fly? So what the heck is Daniel doing? Did you understand that? He was there, and the guy who started the warehouse apparently was, is now dead, right? So now he's the last one.

of who was with these people. But I don't know how, we know that he was traveling because Al got the news, got him to do a news clip, right? Yeah. And so he's just been going around collecting stuff like he,

like this guy that was there before him was doing to save it into a warehouse for no one. So, but it didn't, when it ended, it didn't, he said, didn't he just say there's something I have to do

or something like that? He didn't explain exactly what he's doing? Yeah, I don't know. That's so weird. It is like, from watching The Walking Dead, you know that, like, that's what everyone, everyone looks for in this show or this world is somewhere safe. Once you find it, you fight for it. Right. But in the Walking Dead, but in fear, they don't.

They just continue to move. Like, like the island way back in, was that season one or two? Oh, yeah, the island. Was that two? I think that was season two. Oh, yeah, because they got, they found the boat at the end of one. Right, right, right. Yeah, so it was two.

So the island, they just left the island. That was gold. What the heck are you doing? Right. The island was gold. That was a huge mistake. I never understood that one. I don't understand any of these.

You find something? They just leave. Like this huge warehouse at the beginning of the season. It's like it's fortified. We can defend it. Let's all leave and go after some random dude we just heard about on the radio. They had the, and that season might have been two as well. When that's they left the island, maybe it was three.

When they went, they ended up in Mexico, budget reasons. But they, you know, they had the city, the city, right? And they had the farm. That's all gone. You know, those were areas. And then that's when they came back into Texas to the Preppers farm, right? That's all gone. So now we're just on the road.

We're just moving. And I don't even know if we're driving in circles, pretending that we're on our way to Virginia to get to hook up with the Walking Dead because now we've got Dwight and Morgan. You know, and Morgan tried to make it right. I mean, Dwight tried to make it right with Morgan saying, hey, what happened back there? Well, that was part of, that was, you know, that was part of another thing. And Morgan's like, I got you. No, no, no, worry about it.

Maybe, maybe that weird wormhole that goes from the dam in Mexico or whatever. And when they blew it up, it shoots them, everyone straight over to Texas. Maybe it's warping the entire, like, space time continuum around Texas. It's very possible. It's very possible. I mean, we know that, we know that they shoot in Austin. But I know that they're supposed to be heading east, right? I mean, that's what the deal is.

They're heading east. I got it. So, you know, we don't know where. I don't even know where they're at now. I thought originally, right, we talked about where is there a nuke plant? There's one on the Tennessee side, right? The Tennessee side of the Smoky Mountains. Because they said that they flew over the mountains.

But they said that they flew over mountains, right? Yeah. So is there one on the, is there one on the, is there one on the, on the, on the, Eastern side of the Smokies? I don't remember. I'm starting. I know there's some on the coast, but I'm talking about close,

you know, close to the mountains. I don't think so. I don't know, but I'm starting to think we're not meant to know because it's just like, it just seems so, I don't know. It's so confusing. It almost seems like they wanted to be in like this,

I don't know, make believe location in the United States. And we're really not supposed to like think through it that much. I don't know. Oh, that's very possible. But it totally made sense that they were headed towards. Virginia because they're linking up with this group. And that's where, that's what more, that was the plan.

That's Morgan's plan is to go that way, right? He knows a place. That's where they need to go. Were you, speaking of Morgan, were you at all disappointed with the Dwight Morgan meetup? Or did it go about how you thought it would? I don't know. What more did you want?

Well, I don't know. At the time they meet at night. It was Dwight Morgan and he tried to say, hey, what happened back there's, you know, not me and Morgan was like I got you don't let it go not now it's like there's so much history there I don't know like this guy kidnapped Daryl treated him like crap was part of the people that killed Glenn yeah and now they're just like ask her it granted like Morgan knew that he was in league with an underling

right and helping and helping their group out to take down the end he did yeah but still I don't know I was like I was looking for a little bit more well I think we're going to get that though right because Morgan did say not now oh did he yeah that was with his deal Right then when Dwight tried to say, hey, what happened back there? And Morgan was like, yeah, not now. We're good. So maybe we'll get that. Yeah, I was kind of disappointed we didn't see him last episode.

So maybe we'll maybe we'll get that at least, you know, an episode or two of these two sitting down and rehashing. But that's going to be the spinoff, right? Because since we already know that we already know that they're talking about flashbacks and bringing people back. I mean, Abraham has been talking, yapping his mouth in interviews.

You never know. It's coming back. Look at the flashbacks. Seriously? memories. Yeah. So they're coming back. You know, that we're going to get that.

We're going to get, we're going to get, we had the Rick Grimes connection again. You know, they had, they showed the logo. On the soldier. When the soldier took Al, and then we saw the helicopter.

Same thing. So we got that connection. And then just to top it all off, they announced it, hey, we're going to start a separate, we're going to start a separate Walking Dead in China real soon too. So there we go. Yeah. Oh, come on.

Yeah, it's a spin-off. They're going to start it. They're going to do it in China. This is a cash cow this show. Oh, my gosh, man. So listen, if you guys want to, if you guys want to call me and, you know, I look I do I want to live in China no would I okay you know for the right price you could have yeah that's I think your walk your dreams of becoming a walker are still alive

it's a Chinese walker Chinese walker we only need fat Chinese walkers one week we're going to fly into Beijing. That's it. All right. We're going to go. That's great. Kind of like a Kung Fu Panda type. So I got that.

No, I got that. So anyway, any more. I mean, I have rehashed it. I thought about it. I think maybe we're at the point where they want us to tie you. I think you're right. I think we're in a make-believe land.

We're not really supposed to know where we're at. But on the outskirts of this make-believe land is the old land that we know. Yeah. comfortable land that we know. And when we want you to get comfortable again, we'll show that to you. Yeah. You'll be able to touch it and feel it and be nice and, oh, it's so warm and nice.

Remember this? Remember when we were good? And then back to the mix and we don't know what we're doing. Yeah. I don't think, I don't know. I'm disappointed with this season because the trailer before this season started looked amazing. But they were obviously just showing the really good walker scenes. And I'm so happy that Daniel's back.

Maybe that will add, you know, add to it. And, you know, maybe we've, we're going in a better direction with him. I hope we are. That's what, I guess that's why I'm disappointed because I'm all about, like, the little nuggets they're giving us to tease the miniseries. So every time that happens, I get excited. But now I found myself, that's all I'm looking forward to with watching it. You know what I mean? Like, they're going to show us now.
