Season 5, Episode 5, Fear the Walking Dead, titled The End of Everything.
And that makes this Talking Fear.
Welcome to Talking Fear.
Last night's episode, the IMDB description, Elthea chases a story with dog determination,
putting the mission and her life in danger.
Joining myself, Jeff Fisher, on the podcast Talking Fear.
Today is Jason Butchrell.
Well, well, well, look what the cat drug in.
Yes, who's back?
Finally decided to join us.
Max is back.
Appreciate you, join us.
All right, so you don't need a little jingle.
I know you've been busy and you're still going to be, continue to be busy.
So you're just gracing us with your pleasure here for this episode.
I think the word is presence.
Yes.
So I made it probably about three.
Before we just recap all the scenes and we go through it and we will and we'll recap all the scenes.
I will say that I made it about three quarters of the way through before I was like, okay, I'm bored.
I didn't think you were watching.
I got no text, no nothing.
I texted you like halfway through and you finally, then you took 20 minutes and finally responded.
I'm not even on the group chat anymore.
Yeah, we don't care about you now.
You're not going to join us every week.
Move on.
So you must have been disinterested.
It was just
It was just boring
I didn't think it was that bad
I didn't really
I agree with you
I agree with you
Because this is why
Because I see your headache coming on
The reason being is because I was looking at it
Like okay that we're getting information
About the miniseries
That's how I looked at it
This is the miniseries prequel
That's all it was right
That's all it had to be
Yeah
So I was waiting for some drop on
Information on them
Like so that kept me interested
And I thought that was kind of cool
Max
I didn't think
was that bad of an episode, unlike you.
I had one small problem
with it, but other than that, I didn't think it was a bad
episode. Was it an amazing episode? Like
The Walking Dead, season 9, episode 4? No.
I mean, the problem is that, as we've
pointed out in all these podcasts, is the story's awful.
The overall fear story this season sucks.
The only saving grace is this
prequel portion to the mini-
Which is what they've turned the show into now.
I'm kind of disappointed at that.
I know we're starting to beat this horse,
so we're going to have to try to be careful
because it's the only horse to beat, I guess.
But they've turned the show into just the,
okay, watch it for the prequel sneaks
of what we're going to be doing for the miniseries
and for the movies.
Yeah.
What we're going to do?
Because now, as we go through this entire episode,
the ending was just, it's going to be,
we'll probably,
will we see anything more about what happened on this episode
ever again on fear?
Probably not.
I got the impression that was over.
Yeah.
Like they weren't even going to come back to it.
Right.
It was wrapped up, right?
Yeah.
At the end, you know, Al wouldn't admit to it, lied to Morgan and Alicia.
And we're good to go.
So what?
So then they, what, pivot back towards that group that, that old man that stole their warehouse?
I don't even know if we go there.
You think so?
I don't even know if we go there.
We would probably go to, uh, um,
The group trying to, they're in the warehouse, Daniel's warehouse, collecting stuff,
trying to fly over the mountains of West Texas, East Texas.
Right?
I was like.
Northern Texas or Southern Texas, wherever those mountains are in Texas.
There are mountains in Texas.
Where?
In East Texas?
I know there's like in South Texas, there's Enchanted Rock.
So you can do mountain climbing there.
I think most mountain climbers go to Enchanted Rock in Texas if you're going to do that.
It's not like a mountain.
There's a mountain climbing building in my town, too, but that doesn't make it a mountain.
Yeah, right.
You're never driving through East Texas and go, oh, crap, I can't go that way because of the mountains.
Oh, no.
Which was basically the plot.
All the car stopped here.
They got to get mountain equipment.
It took years to dig a tunnel through that thing.
It was like they just hit the Rockies, you know?
So again, as we said last week, though.
And of course, you listened, Maxo.
You're up to date.
I didn't listen.
I watched.
I had to binge it all last night.
We had an opportunity to figure out that they just,
we didn't want us to know where they're at, right?
It's just a guess.
Yeah.
It's a mythical place.
Yeah.
But I think we go back to the warehouse and between the warehouse and the gas station or whatever the heck it is that they're at,
those two places bring us all those people, right?
so we're good.
Yeah.
So anyway, this episode, we had Al, you know, prisoner running for her life.
That was a good scene in the beginning, her run through the woods.
That was a good scene.
Yeah, the first five minutes were okay.
And that was the reason that they released the first five minutes early for everyone to see.
Yeah.
Here's the episode.
Right, right, right, for sure.
Come and watch it.
I like the showing by then you didn't know that it was the chick with a very bad haircut.
You didn't know that it was her.
You just saw this, you know, dark silhouette of a soldier.
or burning, putting that like gunpowder or whatever it was to burn up the evidence.
So I thought that was kind of interesting.
You know, trying to, it just made them more mysterious.
Now, here was something, a few people spotted out online.
I actually wasn't one of them until I saw a couple people talking about it.
Happy, quote unquote, had a very similar haircut to Jadis.
Oh, I noticed that.
Yeah, yeah.
Remember?
We talked about it.
Yeah, we talked about it on the text.
That's why I think, what is the, what are the rules for getting a,
of this community.
Is it being a bad haircut?
I just think that it's a, the stylists are all dead.
And so it's, we're going to cut your hair like this.
Possible, but Rick's got a rock and do.
You know what I mean?
I mean, he'll be the only one in this community.
He doesn't have a bad haircut.
I'm starting to think.
Well, I don't know.
He might wake up in the hospital bed going, hey, what the hell happened to me?
Right.
What did you do to my hair?
He'll all of a sudden have these weird bangs, and it'll be like short bangs and long in the
back.
He'll be like, what?
His beard will be down to his knees.
What's going on?
No, he'll grow out the handle.
No, Rick Grimes, the handlebar mustache.
Yeah, he could probably do that huge.
They put him in this black uniform and give him a bad haircut.
This is going to be a strange cult society.
And look, if they're all, that's one as a side note, if they're all reasonably hot females, I'm all for it.
Sure.
I've all for it.
I got no problem with that.
It better not be like Oceanside.
Yes.
Because that didn't do it.
No.
I like the, you know, Al caught in the car again, using her barefoot because she didn't have her boot, getting barbed wire, getting calling Baldi over.
That was pretty smart.
That was good.
There was a smart move to get him over there.
Or stupid.
Yeah.
I don't think that.
I know.
I was like, yeah, that was just so, it worked perfectly.
He walked through there, dragged it up to you.
Yeah.
Perfect.
Yeah.
Okay, whatever.
And there wasn't another walker in sight for miles, except when I got outside the.
Barb Dwyer, then they were everywhere.
You're right.
I know.
We have to suspend belief a little bit.
Sure.
And then we get to the helicopter and the reclamation teams and the, the, you know, trying
to make new friends with Happy, which we later find out her name is Isabel.
I've read stories now that have spelled it.
I-S-O-B-E-L, I-S-A-B-E-L, but it.
In the IMDB, they type it, I-A-B-E-E-L-L-E for her name.
Interesting.
It's really weird.
Very good detective work that you did there.
Thank you.
I don't know why you were so inclined to pursue that, but good on you.
Perhaps he's catching your traits as a writer, Jason.
Possibly.
Well, because I just found it strange because when I first, it was Isabel, right?
It's Isabel.
And I-A-B-E-L.
But then I was reading a story, and it was ISA-B-O-L, and I was like,
Is that what it was?
It's all.
It's just,
it's a bowl.
Just piqued my interest.
So,
uh,
I,
they,
they storm off her and the,
her and happy,
okay.
Hang on.
Can I interrupt?
So the reclamation team.
Yeah.
They,
uh,
so,
and they said it was gonna take what,
uh,
Max would probably remember this.
So it was it 24 to 48 hours to get to her?
I think it was about 48 to 72 hours.
Okay.
So,
so I'm,
so assuming that they have another aircraft to come pick them up.
That means that they either have another aircraft,
which takes at least two days,
two to three days to fly over there,
or they were driving out,
but I would assume they were flying out,
flying another aircraft over to her, right?
Okay, let's say there.
So I'm just,
I'm still, I'm wondering where the heck
this is where they're coming from.
Right.
This can't be the, I know your theory,
this is the Commonwealth.
I really don't think it is.
Who else could it be?
I don't know, because the Commonwealth really,
they have a,
Yes, the Commonwealth is a big community with a military force, but they're not like this.
Well, they're not like this in the comic books, right?
But what do you mean by this?
Because we don't even know anything about them.
Just that this lady said that they're all about the future and not the past.
And we know they're very, they were very well equipped and they do have a militaristic style.
They had a new reactor that melted down.
So those radiation signs weren't fake.
Yeah, but that wasn't theirs.
That wasn't theirs.
That was this side.
That was this side of the mountain.
Yeah, they went to that because they saw as a resource.
Yeah.
That's why they went to check it out.
But that wasn't theirs.
Yeah, we've got to talk about Morgan, Alicia, and the other girl who worked at the nuclear plant later.
Well, that was an episode that you weren't here for, Max.
And so, oh, wait, that was another episode.
So perhaps you could stop bleeding the episodes together.
I know it's confusing for some of you.
I had to binge them all last night.
I know you did.
I know you did.
And I appreciate it.
There's plenty of stuff that happened for you.
I really,
I really,
you should just follow the notes.
I really hope it's the Commonwealth.
I really do.
I think that that's a cool,
like,
plot line.
And it's,
it really,
it's the next step up in the progression,
you know,
I think.
And I don't know.
It's,
it's very interesting to me.
And plus it's already,
because we've talked about this before,
when they start like,
making crap up that wasn't already written in the comics.
That's where they lose you.
That's where they lose it.
With the exception of Daryl.
But that's in the walking dead.
Right.
Like they've introduced cool characters.
But like major plot lines.
Yeah, but that doesn't mess with the plot lines.
But I mean, right.
Yeah, like major plot lines is when they,
when they start coming up with their own major plot lines,
they're just not interesting at all.
Well, I have an idea too about this.
So if this is the Commonwealth, here's my idea.
We have the Walking Dead and Fear, like, all converging at this one point, and then the show stopped for like a year, and they release the three movies with Rick, and that's the Commonwealth storyline.
Is that their plan? Are they going to halt production on that?
I don't know if that's their plan. That's just what I'm thinking that might be.
Oh, they're dumb if they do that.
No, they won't do that. They won't stop production on the TV shows.
No, no, they're not production on TV shows, and then they release the movies.
I understand what you're saying, but they're not.
The TV shows drive too much.
They're not going to halt production.
Oh, yeah.
Even if they halt fear, they're not going to halt dead.
And really what they're going to do is maybe when that happens when they release the movies,
that will be when they merge the two TV shows.
They're not going to halt production, but they, you know, the two TV shows will come together then.
And I might have, and I have a small theory.
I believe that.
I believe that.
We've talked about that.
Yeah.
But that still means the TV show is continuing.
They're not going to stop that.
I think maybe Daryl might take Rick's death from the comics.
Because if anyone new here, listen,
who don't read the comics.
Rick died in the comics now.
Spoiler alert.
Boy, no kidding.
What?
Dang.
What happened?
I didn't know what.
When?
I guess how he died.
Do you know how he died, Jason?
Yeah.
How?
The leader's son shoots him in the face, right?
Nope, shoots him in the chest while he's sleeping.
The chest.
And then the cake keeps shooting him.
Yeah.
End of an era.
I don't know.
I think they'd be dumb.
I think they'd be dumb to do that because.
I don't think Rick's coming back to the TV show.
No.
So you keep that,
you keep the TV,
you keep the miniseries going for as long as you can,
but Darrell is the future of the show,
I think.
Got to be Darrell and,
I mean,
because Michele will actually take his own comic death,
like in the comics in the movies,
if it is Commonwealth.
I don't think we ever get to that.
I mean,
we probably never get to that,
right?
Maybe after, you know,
the 80th movie.
And then maybe he comes back to life,
like end game.
So he never ends.
You know,
you're not going to get rid of Rick.
And,
I thought that.
of the TV show too and then they got rid of them.
So I liked the, I liked a little bit of, you know, like I said, we have to suspend belief.
But my favorite, I think my favorite point with Al and Happy or Isabel was when they were getting
their stuff together to camp and then climb.
They were going to spend the night.
This was getting late.
They were going to spend the night and then climb the next morning.
And they had all.
they were on the road and cars were stopped and she said we're going to we know we'll pitch our
tent over there and right behind them as she's getting her tent out there's a van I figured why not
just sleep in the van oh yeah what do you do not see how they set up the tent yeah that was kind
of cool though the suspended tent up in the air yeah yeah that's a real survival method that that's
not like fake that that is a real survival method you could pull for for the times that you don't have a van
Thank you.
I'm assuming there's no van nearby.
Well, I'll give you a quick.
If Walker...
Some sort of structure.
I'm going to defend that decision of the tent.
For one reason, you're in the van.
Say walkers come in, and then they surround the van.
You're surrounded.
They can't get over...
They're under you if you're over at the tent.
And if they don't hear you or, you know, stuff like that,
they'll just walk right past you if you're above them.
I still say sleep in the van.
I'm not wrong in that assessment.
Yeah, I don't, the whole thing with her journey with this, with Isabel.
Yeah.
I was like, so again, like, why wouldn't, if you're in Al's position, wouldn't you be trying to get away or plotting the point to where you can kill this chick and get the heck away?
Well, you would unless you were slowly falling in love.
and that's where we were at.
You think that was what was going on at that point?
Yeah.
I feel, I felt like, I felt like there were two points in the show that I felt jipped.
One was when they, all I got was a kiss for those two.
I mean, I expected at least some shoulders or some clothes coming off.
I want something.
Shoulders.
There's some jackets coming off.
I want to see some skin.
Slow coming down off of one shoulder.
Something.
I mean, we're up in the.
mountains. We've already got our suspended tent.
Get the clothes off. Okay.
All right. We were going to jipped on that. I felt jipped at the, uh, uh, when
Isabelle had Al facing away from her with a gun to her head. I thought for sure she was
going to kill herself. I didn't think she would kill Al. I thought she was going to kill herself.
What I thought, I thought Morgan was going to catch up to them at that point and they were
going to shoot her right before.
I like that idea too
I was like oh here comes here comes wait for it wait for it
and I was like oh man
they never did
Here's where my small little problem comes in all ended
It all ended and Al's like
Hey are you guys still out there
And here they come running around the corner
I know and that was stupid too
Because it was like
shoot they were like where are you
Okay let me check the nearest road sign
Oh crap I'm in the middle of the wilderness
Let me check my GPS
Oh crap I don't have a GPS
I'm just somewhere out miles and miles away from you come pick me up
There's one of the little problems I actually had was the whole,
whole kiss slash romance subplot.
If they wanted to do it, like, if they wanted to do it, like, good at least,
I have no problem with, like, the whole romance subplot in general.
But if they wanted to do it good, they should have kept this episode the same,
minus the whole romance scene at the end.
And then over time, if we see her more, get that,
get the more character development and add more time with the characters together,
adding more time together, they're making it more realistic.
Okay, I'll give you that.
However, that brings us to this is a self-encompassed episode or self-encapsulated episode,
and we're never going to hear about it again until the movies.
Yeah.
Right?
It's over because we're not going to hear.
We're not going to have the helicopter.
We're not going to have the soldiers.
Al is it talking.
We destroyed the tape.
She's going to continue on with their stories.
I mean, we'll know the long.
longing in her eyes when she's at when she's eating a juice drinking a juice in the morning at
the coffee shop we'll know the longing in her eyes is looking for isabel we're the only ones
that will know that it's just it's over right come on well we don't know if it's over we assume it is
yeah we do they're not going to bring that back because of the whole this whole thing has been a
build up for the rick grimes trilogy yeah i'd say what the reality this is this was done more real
what would have happened was
is that when they were climbing up the rope
and Isabel falls and she's barely being held up
Oops
Zip. I didn't, did I just cut that rope?
Did I say you fall, I fall?
Boy, was that wrong.
Yeah, right?
That's what would have happened.
Then Al goes to the top of the mountain,
gets the fuel, brings it back down,
and she takes the dang it.
That's another thing I thought it was like so hilarious.
She's going to fly that helicopter out there.
Like, was her instruction manual around here?
I can fly this helicopter, no problem.
Well, she did say she did say she.
She didn't know how to fly it, and she said she'd figure it out.
Yeah.
Okay.
Well, yeah, because she drives, anybody that drives a big truck can fly a helicopter.
Don't you know that?
Jeffie, it's the same thing.
Yeah.
You just get in, you flip a couple of switches and you take off.
You're away.
That was duh.
Come on.
But still, if she was so confident she could learn, then that's what she would have really done.
Yes.
Yes.
And I'll tell you one thing.
Another thing that I really do like is the weapons.
Oh, those weapons were cool.
Military weapons.
I love the eye pokes on the end of the rifles.
Those are really cool.
And that's something that, I mean, Morgan has been doing it with his cane or his stick or whatever he wants to call it.
But others should, that's a lot easier to use than, you know, I don't know, a muffler like Alicia uses.
It's not a muffler.
It's a barrel of a gun.
It's a point of a good.
Is that a muffler?
We found out Al's last name.
Oh, yeah.
What was it, the Subject-Pur-Chic?
No, it was,
her full name is Althea,
Sevich,
Bercocchi.
That is Cech,
Pergaki.
I apologize for saying it incorrectly.
Well,
my mother and father were
fully Polish,
and they gave me a Polish name.
Okay, great.
You know, I...
Make me a sausage.
I did kind of like the...
We found out why she does the,
you know,
the interviewing stuff.
Oh, yeah, that was cool.
Because before that made no.
sense but now at least it makes sense it does make a little bit of sense and it was you know it's
it's it's good that we're getting you know we we get to see a little bit of a little bit more of
oh so we finally see the tape of the bog but yeah i mean that's which is why you know why she does
what she does and she wants the stories and she wants to her save i you know i get it but i also
am still fascinated by uh i mean don't worry about things running on running on batteries when at the
end of time because they keep running man those batteries work i can't get a battery
to work on a headset here
listening to Glenn during the museum.
But the batteries are in Walking Dead, man.
Those bad boys on walkie-talkies
and everything else, they work fine.
It's one of the perks.
Video machines, videotaped machines, they all were.
You could watch videos, you can record videos.
You'd never run out of power.
Gas and police MRAPs just show up there.
Just show up.
Yeah.
It's all fine.
Helicopter fuels at the top of every Texas mountain.
A lot of them out air.
Well, we kind of understand that, well, for the helicopter.
fuel thing.
That kind of makes sense because that's a,
that's a checkpoint for like whatever group
Happies with.
My God,
are you working for fear?
I'm just pointing out facts.
So,
the next episode,
you know,
so this is,
you know,
another,
this is kind of a,
you know,
not really a wasted episode because we did get a little back
story on Al and stuff and we got to see,
you know,
a little bit of the future and stuff.
But we're,
we're,
you know,
I hope,
I,
I hope,
We're going to go back now to wanting to do what?
Be good again?
Yeah.
Gosh, that sounds so stupid.
I know, but that's what it is, right?
Well, that's Morgan's whole thing.
That's always been his thing since, like, season five.
That doesn't make it good.
Of the Walking Dead.
So it's like, that's Morgan's character.
He always was one to pass on his peaceful knowledge.
He was yelling at Rick about it, remember?
I know.
So the next episode is The Little Prince.
And then it looks like a couple episodes still standing and is anybody out there.
I mean, I think we're getting close.
We've got two or three.
Maybe we're getting close to the mid-season finale, right?
So if this was five, so the next three will be the, you know, mid-season, we'll take a break.
Wouldn't it be the next four?
Because usually it's 16 and mid would be eight?
Right.
And this was five plus three is eight.
That would be mid-season.
Even I, not knowing math, knows that.
Oh, wait, crap.
Maybe you've been in your suspended tent too long above the walkers.
I don't know.
Oh, man, I'm an idiot.
So what do you?
I have been in a building with not good air conditioning all summer.
Oh, it's okay, baby.
You signed up for it.
Hey, I got paid.
The future?
Wow.
Well, yeah.
What I would like to have...
The story sucks,
but what I would like to happen
is they go back and try and fight back
for their little warehouse thing.
We've already seen that
in All Out War.
I assume that since they love stealing plot lines
that they could go down that road
because they can't just leave that plot line out there
because it was just wasted otherwise.
They ended last season finding this place.
Right.
You lose it within one episode of the next season.
And you don't care about it.
And technically, they...
If you think about it, they stole it from him since he actually owns the deed to that
that warehouse.
There's no deeds anymore.
Nobody has deeds anymore.
It's its power.
Yeah.
Are they going to protest it down at the county clerk?
Right.
You know what I mean?
Come on.
I'll take you to court.
I mean, it's just a huge waste.
So you would think logically they would go do that.
But the show's not very logical this season.
Doesn't seem to be.
Future?
Well, I think for Feeder at least, it will be.
continue down this. What's what we're talking about is fear. Thanks for playing along.
Let's go ahead. For this whole season, I think it will continue a little down that road.
I hope more of that whole militaristic community gets more touched on. They should,
they better touch more on that whole nuclear reactor thing, but.
Well, that's done now, right? I mean, they know. They never, they didn't touch. They never
actually like went full on it. They just talked to a little bit of it. Well, they had,
what's her face out there, you know, killing,
killing people that were, you know, infected.
And the kids are running crazy from their parents,
which we'll get more of them.
We'll get the children of the corn.
More of those coming up.
I think they'll take them on and then take them back to wherever.
Yes.
Yeah, the children of the corn come along.
They're part of the deal now.
Yeah.
And they'll be, remember when, what's her face, June,
was talking to John about kids and everything.
this will be their family
and kids and stuff
they'll take that on
that's the way they're going to have.
I thought the whole family thing
was June,
John and Charlie.
Yeah, well,
Charlie's getting older now, right?
And she's going to be with Daniel.
Charlie and Daniel are the pair now.
I mean,
Daniel's taking her under his wing,
man.
He's going to raise her to be another
Sandinista baby.
They're messing around.
She's almost there now as it is.
She's turned to,
I mean,
this episode with Daniel
made me fall in love with her.
Oh, yeah.
We got to get Daniel.
back, right?
Yeah.
So he won't be over.
So he'll...
And Dwight.
Yeah.
And the kids.
We've only had Dwight one episode.
Is that right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
So weird.
I know.

And Daniels, we had him, what, two, right?
That's it.
Yeah, two episodes.
I gave him a whole episode and a partial other one so far.
Their most interesting characters, they show the least.
So weird.
What?
Really weird.

We have to go back and listen to the podcast.
I just want to know.
Again, we just wanted to,

It was the Western theme show
when Dwight showed up
as we were walking back down that memory lane.

Yeah, the whole thing sucked.
Anyway.
No, it was good.
We just need more of them, right?
Do we need more of Daniel and more of DeWay.

We got a whole episode with John that episode, so at least that's good.
Thanks for listening.
We'll talk to you next week.
