Season 6, episode 12, titled In Dreams, and I wish I was dreaming, but I don't know.
That makes this talking Walking Dead, and you are not dreaming with the Fear Edition today.
I'll tell you that.
Welcome to it.
Myself, Jeff Fisher, Jason Butchell, and Maximus Fisher.
No, that was not feedback.
That was the beginning of the open for Fear of the Walking Dead this week.
Jason, Maximus, welcome to it.
IMDB description
Grace wakes up
with a case of amnesia
and sees what has become of her friends
after she's been gone for years
16 to be exact
and she struggles to put the puzzle pieces together
on what has transpired
so they
say it was amnesia
the title was in dreams
the whole thing actually did feel like
an afternoon soap opera
yeah
you know they've kind of
mastered one step forward, two steps back.
But the two steps back are like big foot level two steps back.
And like a baby step forward.
I wanted so badly for them to say, hey, they're on the right track after last week,
because I actually felt they were.
This was bad.
Oh, my God, this was bad.
I spent the majority of the time on my phone.
I couldn't even watch this.
This was so bad.
I don't know about that.
I mean, it comes to think of it, I guess I did too,
Max was the only one that was, because that's right, because I do remember hearing,
Dad, watch.
Didn't you catch that?
Like, there was some subtle foreshadowing for something.
I'll talk about it later.
But he was like, no, I wasn't listening.
I'm like, you have to listen to this stuff.
So I have you for it.
I wasn't going to listen.
Some of the scenes, I guess, were enjoyable, but after you realize that it's all a dream,
which was pretty easy, you know, pretty quick end,
then, you know, and then we get to the point where we're mashing real life with the dream sequence or the amnesia sequence,
and they're trying to catch up to each other.
I mean, that was, I guess, kind of enjoyable.
You know, I was, you know, I enjoyed it a little bit as they were, I saw what they were trying to do, so I get it.
But it just, I don't know.
It was kind of disappointing overall.
Yeah.
I don't even know where to start.
From the very beginning, it was obvious that it was like she was unconscious and something was going on.
Right.
But, like, immediately I wanted to turn the channel because I don't care.
Like, I don't care about this world as through the eyes of grace.
Because I don't care about grace.
You know what?
I think that's, I think that was my main point of the whole thing in my head last night was like,
why are you trying to be getting me to care about grace?
You two are in the minority about that, by the way.
I refuse to believe that.
I think, I guess it's the most vocal, most, like, random people on Twitter or social media that they'll have nothing but good things to say.
Like, they didn't, they're not tweeting about fear because they don't like it or because they're being critical of it.
They're just going to say it's awesome regardless.
But the vast majority, I think there's no way.
There is no way.
Like, that episode, I would have hated this style of episode, even if you.
it was as through the eyes of Rick Grimes.
I still would have been annoyed.
I'd have been like, okay, let's get the plot.
We kind of did get some of that with Rick and like the prison scenes or the, his final
episode.
And I was always more than kind of annoyed with it, too.
Those were the episodes we didn't like.
We're like, come on, dude.
Stop seeing your dead wife for crying out loud.
It's getting annoyed.
Oh, no kidding.
Enough.
But through Grace's eyes?
I know.
I know Morgan was, you know, that's Morgan's girl and, you know, all of that.
but it's not his kid.
We already know that he picked her up alongside, you know, the Duke Road.
And he, you know, he kind of fell in love with her because, you know, I don't know,
you know, lack of choices, I guess, I'm no.
And then we're supposed to love her?
No.
I mean, okay, she's a fine guy.
Okay, enough character, I guess.
But, I mean, I don't care.
Right.
I don't care about her.
I was trying to, okay, I was trying to say, okay,
I'm just going to follow along, even though I'm so annoyed with this type of thing.
But, I mean, when the white horse ran out to save the day and help them make up the time,
I was like, okay, I am totally lost.
It's a dream.
And you know it's a dream when you see this horse come out.
Why not just do the thing and fly naked, you know, like we all want to do in the dream?
You know, like you could get from point A to point B just flying naked.
That's what I would have done.
To be honest, I'm not necessarily opposed to Grace and Athena.
flying naked.
Give us some reason
to watch, right? Give us some, oh, hey,
it's a dream. Let's shed the clothing and fly
naked.
Go. We'll make up grounds. I thought the
horse seat was kind of funny just because it reminded me of
those classic movies or whatever
where like all hope is lost and something
happens. Yeah, the angel comes
in or whatever.
I got it.
That was my whole thing. I got it.
It was, you know, like we have to, we're never
going to get there in time. Well, let's
just hop on a horse and just have the horse walk us there.
I mean, we didn't even see them trying to, you know, at least a little gallop.
They still do go faster than humans.
They're not that much.
No.
Have you ever tried to race a horse?
No, I haven't.
I haven't ever tried to race a horse.
I would have never tried to race a horse.
I would pay.
I would pay to see you go into the, for you to go into the Kentucky Derby and try.
try to racing in it.
Buy yourself.
Well, they're drugging those horses now.
Okay, I'm sorry.
You can't go against,
you can't throw me up against drugged horses.
We've got meth.
They're giving meth to racing dogs.
They're shooting up horses.
We're giving,
the next thing you're going to tell me
that turtle's several purposes.
No.
I won't have it.
Anyway, back to fear.
You know, I like, again,
I like,
I kind of liked.
the premise of dream catching up with real life.
And, you know, I know that, you know, we had the horse and we had the, you know,
we had the Groundhog Day with the, you know, I Heart Texas T-shirt guy, you know, that
kind of thing where real life was catching up with Dream World.
But it just, I don't know, it just didn't seem.
And then we end up, we end up the best part of it, the best part of it, I thought was the ending.
The whole thing was just the best part.
The ending was a giant twist that I wasn't expecting.
So, I know we're jumping ahead, but I actually really want to talk about this.
So Morgan gives up the key, Grace gives birth, and the baby's dead.
So we don't have the key anymore.
Right.
And the baby's gone.
Right.
Oh, happy Mother's Day.
I know.
This is what got me into trouble with the foreshadowing from Max because, you know,
they're worried about the baby, and I'm like, the kid's probably not even going to live, right?
I mean, she's the one with talking about dad dying from the nuke plant.
She's got poison from the nuke plant.
No way that kid survives, unless he comes out with, you know, eight arms, 12 legs.
And they mentioned it early in the episode, actually, which you missed.
Yeah, I got it.
I wasn't paying attention.
Sorry.
Yeah, the only reason to watch was, the only time I was really into it was when Morgan
was just tearing through fools with his staff, man.
That was awesome.
There was like, into the dudes, and he's like,
you know, just going after all.
This isn't the axe, Morgan,
because the axe is still technically at the dam.
So this is just, okay, I'm going to use a sharpened stick.
That was awesome.
That was cool.
But then it kept bringing me out of that
because you flash back to the dream sequence
where it literally looked like a bunch of actors
from Michael Jackson's thriller
were fighting against Grace and that shit.
I mean, seriously.
It looked like they wandered over in the soundstage.
Like, hey, we're doing a remake of thriller from Michael Jackson.
Let's hop on to the Fear of the Walking Dead set.
That was a great video, by the way, in a state.
Video was good.
The show last night sucked.
We got a first, I think, right?
We could have had a couple of first from this episode,
but we only had one that I could remember that I think is true.
We had a talking walker.
Right.
I know it was part of the dream sequence, but even in Rick's dream, I don't think he had talking walkies, right?
I don't think so.
Another first, I could be wrong on this, but I think this is our first time in the Walking Dead universe with a dead baby.
And why didn't they turn?
I said the same thing.
I said the same thing.
We should have had, you know, a lot of baby, right?
Yes, it's going to stand.
Yeah.
If all of a sudden the baby just reanimates and goes after Grace, I would have to get in on it.
Yes.
It would have been awesome.
I mean, happy Mother's Day, as I'm saying to that.
Right, right.
Which is what they even talked about when they were talking.
I read an article where they were interviewing the showrunners, Andrew Shambliss and Ian Goldberg.
And they wanted to find out about this heartbreaking.
twist. And whether they worried
it might be too much for viewers
to take. Are you kidding? Too much for viewers
to take? I mean, what?
Stop it. Stop it.
I just... Okay, you know when that would be too much for viewers
to take? If that's like
Maggie's child,
that was sucked.
Yeah, and also a Walker baby, the baby
turning may have been
made it into more of a joke than they wanted
to. It's a zombie show.
Like, that's the
crap that happens in zombie shows.
Or we heard they got them a new name, too.
For them last night, they were called Husks.
Isn't that what Athena called them?
16 years later, husks.
Oh, gosh.
However, one thing that's interesting,
I think the reason that they have,
this is the first time they really had the balls to do this
is because Judith, in the comics,
is dead. She died in the prison.
She, as a baby, like, Lori didn't die.
in childbirth. She got, Lori
was during the escape on the
prison. She was running with Judith, and then
a bullet hit Lori, and it went through
both of them. Okay. And I don't
think they had the boss to do that in the show.
So they had Judith survive and just
Lori die in childbirth. Okay.
But I mean, I don't
know what that.
I don't know. I just feel it. Like, we didn't
know if our viewers could take it.
We're in the dead universe. Are you kidding
me? We've seen Rick.
or at least many of us have,
seen Rick, you know,
bite a guy's neck off.
Right.
You see me again.
Come on.
Right.
We see people,
and even when you think about that,
I mean,
that was the show that made the big turn
for a lot of people, right?
That it was too violent for a lot,
which was silly on my hand,
but for the,
you know,
a lot of masses said,
no,
I've got too far.
Oh, come on.
This is a zombie flick.
I mean,
look at what I'll shock value is the entire point.
Look at what Alpha did, and then look at what Alpha did, which was pretty much as brutal as what Negan did.
Correct.
I just do this straight.
Anyway, so we know now that I guess, does that mean that Grace is still alive just infecting everyone with nuke juice?
That's not how radiation poisoning works.
It is in my world.
Yes, but in real life, that is not how radiation poisoning works.
If you have radiation poisoning, you can't infect other people with it.
Well, she infected another person, didn't she?
the baby. The thing that was growing
inside of her. Oh, that's right, yeah, the thing.
I think that wasn't growing inside of her.
It wasn't another baby. But
you get my point.
But I guess she's still alive, right?
Grace? At this
point, yeah. But again, I mean, again,
I don't really care. Oh, yeah, who cares?
I don't. I don't really care.
But I guess, well, we have to,
we're back at real life.
The key is gone. We have to wait for the submarine to explode.
Or, you know, something
else to happen. You know, maybe
maybe What's Her Face gets it back
right? That's there in the parking
garage. Oh, Alicia?
Alicia. Yeah, Alicia could get it back when he comes
back. But she's with Teddy right now, so you have
to figure out what that's going on with Teddy as well.
Which I would have liked to have had
more of that
interaction this week instead of this whole dream
sequence. I know.
This episode mainly, I did
this episode is mainly of two
things. The main reason for two things. One, to say the baby died, and two, that now, again,
is the beginning people have the key. So the first part of what you just said makes no difference
whatsoever. I don't care if the baby died. I don't care if there is a baby. I don't care if there is
the mother to that baby, Grace. We don't even know the dad. We care very little about the mom.
Who cares about the kid? Exactly. I care about the key, because that's like a major plot line. So I do
care about that. But that was a minor
thing, an entire over-hour
long episode. It was an extended episode again,
was it? Yes, it was.
All that said the key is gone.
I don't want to thank AMC again for doing their
programming genius of running
fear back to back and then their
new hit show gangs. So
it was great. It was a good programming move on their
part. It makes me happy.
Over two hours of the worst episode
ever. And I will say that
what's your face? What's Dwight's
voice thing? Oh, Sherry. Yeah, Sherry.
Sherry, 16 years later, looked tremendous.
Yeah.
I thought she looked great 16 years.
I mean, the rest of them all looked rough.
Sherry came out with roses, baby.
Right.
She looked great, holding the fake kid, but in the dress and everything, she looked great.
I just want to say.
I just want to say, if that's 16 years, I realize it was a dream, but it was a good dream for her.
Honestly, like, looking around that place, like seeing older Dan.
Daniel cutting,
cutting strands hair,
which is pretty funny.
Whatever I,
if I'm imagining that,
I'm thinking Daniel's just like,
I could just use these to really hurt you right now.
Don't I,
Daniel.
Right?
Yeah, I mean.
That whole thing.
Maybe I was just really annoyed at that point,
but I couldn't stop criticizing everything.
Even that one part,
I expected, you know,
an old cowboy old timer to be playing a fiddle in the background.
He's like, hey, Daniel, over there, yonder?
Yeah.
Could have been.
How the crop's looking?
Shut up.
That would have been John if he was still alive, actually.
It was interesting that they said Alicia had left, though, that she went back to the stadium.
I wonder if that's what?
Back to the ballpark.
Yeah.
This is like what?
That they've mentioned the stadium like four times now?
That's got to happen.
That's going to be their excuse to write her off.
It's got to be.
Well, yes, or, and I hope that it has.
I hope that that underlying.
The big thing, everybody.
want.
Bringing her back.
Madison returning.
Everyone wants?
That's what I'm saying.
I don't think the same people that like grace.
No, okay.
Time out.
No, no, no, no, no.
This is, even, I've watched and looked at a lot of reviews.
Even people who don't like race, I've seen a mass majority of people, even from people
who don't like these episodes saying they want Madison back.
That is a big majority vote to have Madison back.
A vast majority?
Like, what are you looking at?
Like, are you saying on Twitter or what?
YouTube reviews, like just articles of the, just normal articles.
Like, a lot of people want Madison back, reaction, stuff like that, podcasts.
Okay, well, let's be clear.
The podcast, Talking Walking Dead Fear Edition, we do not.
No, I know you guys don't.
Oh, that means you do?
No, I don't either.
Okay.
Because, no, she didn't.
You know, we've already covered that base.
Let's move on.
So many people that I interact with.
are just pissed.
They're like, oh, I stopped watching it at season whatever.
Oh, after this week, I'm not watching it anymore.
Oh, I don't know.
Maybe that's...
If it took this week, if you've watched it all along up to now, you're not going to stop.
You're still going to watch it, yeah.
That's us.
That's us.
We hate it, but we're not going to stop watching it.
And I don't hate it.
That's just it.
That's the problem.
I don't hate it.
I just want better.
Well, it's so psychotic because last week,
I mean, I was getting these cool, like, you know, cult vibes.
I guess this is fun.
The John Dory episode was great.
Yes.
They do these good episodes.
And then last night and what was it, two weeks ago, you're just like, what are you doing?
Well, what's good is that next week, according to the IMDB description, it says June splits off from the group in an effort to gather any information to help stop an uncoming threat.
So does that mean that the dock is just out wandering around in the woods looking for, I don't know, mushrooms and other plants and herbs for the hospital?
It actually showed, from the trailer, from the promo, it actually showed her, like, holding one of the revolvers up to this guy's head in the car.
So I wonder where that's going to go.
Okay.
All right.
I mean, maybe she gets the key back.
I don't know.
I can see where
Homeboy
what made me think that
Alicia would get the
key back
is that he would come in
and be
he's almost dead
right
the number two guy
for
what's his name
Teddy
yeah Teddy
the number two guy
is almost dead
right
I mean he's close to death
when he got the key
for Morgan
and left
so when he comes in
he's going to die
he's done
right he's going to
become a fertilizer
in the parking garage
so does he just drop the key
to, you know, Alicia sees he's got the key
and takes it from him before he's able to tell Teddy
that he got it and then Teddy's going to try to make Alicia
number two because he loves her, right?
He knows if he can cult mind to her
he's going to win
because she's strong enough to take over that group.
Yeah.
That's just me.
But they don't know.
I hope the key doesn't, I hope that
becomes something that goes all the way towards the final episode.
Like, you know what I'm like, I don't know, I'd be fine with him actually detonating it and see what happens.
Me too. Heck yeah. Let's blow this thing up.
I'm all for that.
I've said before, I've said before, we've never had a nuclear bomb in the Walking Dead before.
Yeah, so I'm all for that.
Now, the thing is, we're all saying that, and honestly, I hope that's true.
But honestly, if we're being serious, that hasn't been confirmed.
All we know is they sprayed it on a submarine, and they focused.
focused on it once and saying we need that key.
But they didn't even say it was for the submarine.
Maybe they just found it.
But we don't even know what that key is.
We're just saying it's probably for the nuke in the submarine.
Well, the fact has confirmed that.
Yes, we have confirmed that here.
Sources.
That's true.
Yes, thank you.
Thank you.
Sources say.
We've sourced that.
Did you say that, Max?
Did I say what?
Yeah, yes, he has.
That's a story.
Joking aside, like we don't have any confirmation.
on what it is.
No, but I mean, we're pretty darn sure of that.
So anyway, any final thoughts about this?
I had enough talking about the Dream show.
Any final thoughts, Mr. Butcham?
I mean, we have four episodes left, right?
We have four left.
Four left.
What sucks with this show is I expect probably next week to be an okay show.
Like, I'll be into it, I bet.
But then it's stupid,
because there's no hope for any momentum.
So, like I said, you're going to take one step forward.
You're going to take two gigantic leaps backwards.
And it sucks.
I'm disappointed because they had a lot of potential with this.
You know, I think that when I worked in Los Angeles,
I remember working on a couple of TV shows.
And they had multiple different directors.
Yeah, and show weather.
Yeah, so, like, you'd have a full season.
You'd have, like, five or six directors.
There would be no consistency.
And I think that,
goes for like writing and everything but they do that so that's cut down on price because if they
just hired a full time for an entire season it would cost too much well i think you kind of see
that in some of these these seasons that it's just so inconsistent you'll have a great couple of
episodes horrible three episodes you know what i mean it's like i don't know if it's just the sign
of the times and the money constraints or whatever probably and then you have people like that they
they give you uh you know someone you gave you Angela kane right who oversees it and she makes
sure that the different crews
keep a basic theme
whatever that is, whether that's the key.
Kang doesn't oversee fear.
That's Gimple. Gimple and what's
the other lady's name for fear?
The producer, I don't know.
It's Gimple and that one producer. They run dead.
But my point is that
they make sure that, like you said, Jason,
I actually see that 100%. They make sure
that keeps a common thread through the
main storyline. But
the rest of it,
is kind of a hit-miss thing.
Right.
And that's disappointing.
If one of your main worries is whether the audience of a zombie show,
if it's too much for the audience to take, you know,
this is written reference to the dead baby,
then you're going in a complete, you're going in the opposite direction.
Sorry.
You're not doing a show that we really want to watch,
because that's what the entire point of these shows is.
It's shock value, it's gore, it's horror.
But you're like, oh, I don't know if we can take in,
Take it. Okay, you're losing.
We want to twist. Yeah, we want to.
I agree with you there.
And we also got a promo for season 11.
It looked good. They focused a lot on the Commonwealth.
It was like filming stuff.
They focused a lot on Eugene, Yumaco, Princess, Ezekiel, and Commonwealth.
It looked good.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to it.
I can't wait.
In fact, and that goes to we're really focusing on the promo and not the show.
So it tells you how the show.
Anyway, thank you for listening to a Talking Walking Dead,
Fear Edition, Jason Butchow, Maximus Fitcher, myself, JetFitcher.
Make sure you subscribe to it chewing the fat,
which you probably already have if you're listening to this,
but if you're listening to you this and you haven't become a subscriber,
wow, I do not want to be you.
Thanks for listening.
We'll see you next week.
I'm sorry.
