Season six, episode five of fear the walking dead.
And that makes this talking walking dead.
I know what you're thinking.
That got awful open, but that's what the fear of the walking dead.
That's for the next episode.
So, welcome to it.
Talking fear, actually, to be exact, with myself, Jeff Fisher, Jason Butchell, and Maximus Fisher.
This week, Dwight and Sherry team up with the mysterious faction.
of people to take down Jenny
when Morgan unexpectedly offers
to help a power struggle, of course,
ensues. And just off the
front, I'm going to jump off the diving board
and say this episode
may have been the worst of the season.
I can agree with that. I could probably agree with that.
It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good
or great. I'm so
conflicted because the premise
was kind of badass.
I said we were
texted and I was like this feels like a
Western train robbery
is what it felt like to me. Something like
that. And really that's what it was.
Yeah. Try and get
the MRAP. Yeah,
that was very cool, but
the problem was, as we'll get into
later, this
side plot with
Sherry was agonizing.
I know.
I know. I love
the beginning, you know, as they
were with the, you know, with the train robbery.
and, you know, with their riding with the horses and everything's fine.
That wasn't the beginning.
The beginning was Dwight and Sherry in the house,
and then Dwight kind of getting kidnapped by them.
Right, by the masked people who are, you know, with her, of course.
And we realized that, and I kind of had this feeling,
and I should have said something last week,
but I kind of had this feeling that, look,
she's been the one that went missing, right?
She's not, he's the one that's been searching for her.
She didn't stick around to look for him.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I got to say, when you start the show off with Sherry and her delicates, you know, you're going in a good direction.
I'm a fan.
I'm a fan.
I'm definitely a fan.
In fact, I was hoping that that would be the entire show.
Yeah, a little conversation there with all the candles and forget it.
I'll watch.
I know.
Apparently, I did get a message during the show from one of our listeners,
Jeremy, who pointed out that apparently the candle business is booming during the apocalypse.
Yeah, because they were everywhere.
It's true.
You do realize candles are pretty easy to make.
Yeah, okay.
Thanks, Mr. Eagle Scout.
We got it.
I've made like six, so yeah, I know how.
That's my point.
Anyway, yeah, I was a fan of Sherry, and I was a fan of a couple of shots of Sherry even during the show when she wasn't in her delicates.
Same, same, same.
But I knew it was, you could feel it was going in a weird direction when she was like, when Dwight is all like, this is the conversation you expected.
Like, okay, we're finally together, screw it.
It's all about us.
Let's get the heck out of here.
Like literally those characters could have moved on and we never saw them again.
And it would have sucked to lose Dwight and Sherry, but I would have been fine with that plot-wise.
Or, right, or I was thinking that that's possible that those two want to be together.
So they go and to Morgan's place.
Yeah.
Morgan's got the new place where he wants to start a new life.
They go there.
Yep, they didn't know about that at that time.
But yeah, for sure.
No, no, I know.
But, I mean, that was part of the direction that could have happened.
We're going to be together, right?
Right.
But so Dwight's all laying out this plan to run away together, and she's like, I can't.
And I'm like, why not?
Are you stunk in West Texas or East Texas, or is that wherever they're at?
I think, and what we found out later in the episode, I called it.
This whole Jenny situation is reminding her too much of Negan.
So she wants to be able to do something about this that she didn't do about Negan when she was his wife.
Yeah, leave.
Right.
Leave the situation.
Right.
That's what she did with Negan.
She just left.
But instead, she ends up with the skate park cowboys.
And, you know, I just kind of, that whole situation was, you know, they were the, you know, they were the former cowboy gods.
Lawton, right?
Yeah.
And they all hate, you know, they've all come together with their common purpose of, you know,
hating Virginia.
Virginia.
Virginia.
Whatever.
Okay, that confused the crap out of me.
Because some people were calling her Jenny, some people are calling Virginia.
I'm like, what is, just pick one.
That's been happening all season.
I guess it has.
Yeah, it has.
It's confused me the entire season.
I was insane.
I didn't say anything.
It doesn't look stupid, but I was like, dude, what is this?
But so so for it to follow this along in this podcast, in that opening, before they, before Dwight gets kidnapped and you find out about the mask guys.
Right.
He was like, he made a very big thing and so did Sherry about he not wanting to be the guy that he turned into.
Right.
When she left, when she left the guy that he was, correct.
She recognized that in her letters that she turned him into that guy.
Yes.
He needed to get back to who he was.
Yes.
Okay.
That's the first scene.
Why would that be a point of reference, Jason?
Oh, let's follow along, shall we?
So, and then we get into, you know, they take Dwight and, you know, Sherry's got a, you know,
I was just a strange, whole strange situation with the skate park cowboys.
I didn't quite get why she would allow that to happen.
unless we're going to find out that the guy that took Dwight is her new lover, right?
He's the guy.
Possible?
I don't think that's the case, but...
Who knows?
I mean, that could still come out, I guess, but I don't know.
I don't think that's the case, but that's just me.
The weirdness was that she definitely appeared to have some kind of loyalty to them.
She said, and I got that.
She was like, okay, these guys are the only reason why I'm alive.
Okay, that's a good reason to hang out with these dudes.
Sure.
But the problem is, now that you have your husband, why do you need these dudes?
Right.
Right.
She never went to Lawton, did she?
I don't think so.
So she's...
No, I don't think so.
So she's hearing all these stories from these guys that she doesn't even know, and she's attached
herself to their cause, because...
Because of what happened with Negan.
That's the reason.
Maybe she never went to Lottin, but I get the impression that maybe she still had dealings with Jenny.
Maybe, I don't know.
With Virginia.
My thing is I think the main reason she's doing this is, and I think it was explicitly said in the show where this has nothing to do with Virginia.
this is about her dealing
what she believes she should have done with Negan.
Okay.
Okay.
I don't remember her referencing Negan ever.
That was in one scene.
Well, that was in the one scene with Dwight, yeah.
Yeah, and Dwight brought it up as well.
Right?
I mean, that's what you're talking about.
Yeah.
Well, I don't remember her saying, did she say I need to do this because of Negan?
Yes.
I don't ever remember her saying that
But
Regardless
I don't understand the thought process
Like you've got your husband
Leave
You have no
You have no connection to this whatsoever
Except these guys found you
When you're probably roaming around by yourself
Right
So it's obvious
Everything Dwight has done is because of Sherry
Now it's like
You're starting to get this like picture of
she's not focused on Dwight at all.
I mean, this is like, oh, you found it.
You made your way.
That's kind of tertiary for her.
It's not main.
That's great.
And look at all these letters that I left and you left and it's a wonderful thing.
And I'm laying here in my undies and life is good with the candles.
But, man, look at the time.
Right.
I mean, she left Dwight to get away from the situation of Negan.
and now she's running into a situation to battle A. Negan?
Why didn't she just battle Negan when she left?
Yeah, I don't know.
I don't get it.
I don't know.
And I like the skate park cowboys as they, you know, as they did their thing and they, you know,
blasting the prisoner with music.
I guess we didn't.
Yeah.
We know that the walkers aren't coming, right?
Yeah, right.
And you know what it reminded me of that?
I was curious about the song.
I remember what the song was,
but it gave me flashbacks of when Dwight was interrogating.
Easy Street.
Yeah, yeah.
We're on Easy Street.
Oh, my gosh.
And I feel so sweet.
Okay, okay, okay.
And so, you know, I mean, Dwight needed to realize that Sherry ain't it, right?
I mean, that needs to happen.
Yeah, well, so that was, what was this so frustrating?
Like, she, it's like she was asking him to be, again, to turn into something he's not.
Most definitely.
And sign on to this cause.
Right.
She was the cheerleader for it.
So she gets what she wanted.
Like, when, during that interrogation scene, Dwight turns back into Dwight.
Right.
Like, Needs.
Right. Yes.
She gets what she wants
But then she's like
Oh wait a minute
No no no no
And she gets freaked out
And she turns him over
I guess we're kind of getting ahead of ourselves
No that's fine
Yeah I mean
This is posts after getting the MRAP
And Morgan shows up
And all that stuff
They get the MRAP
And that was
I mean that scene was
You know
That scene was pretty cool
Yeah
It was good
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah
What's your problem
I don't know
I just, it was okay.
I don't know.
It's fine.
It's fine.
It was going to see an owl again and heard basically saying,
that's my truck.
That's my truck.
Wait a minute.
Wait a minute.
So we have like 10 horses running down an MRAP, jumping off a horse onto an MRAP and stealing it,
and that's just fine?
That's fine.
Whatever.
Okay.
And then you have a fight inside of an MRAP.
I know.
And then you got Morgan.
catching the guy that he kicked out of the MRAP and you lose something.
Okay.
Yeah.
Again, how small Texas is.
It's like smaller than Rhode Island.
Right.
You're right there.
So, hey.
It's happened to beat around these parts.
I mean, all three of us right now are in separate locations in Texas, and it's not just around the corner.
I just want to be clear about that, okay?
I don't know.
I know.
I know.
I'm with you.
You know, it was fine.
At the time, it was fun to watch.
No question.
I just, and then it was, I, as I ponder on it a little bit, I think, okay, really?
The horses, the train robbery, okay.
That was cool.
I mean, it's like I said, it's enjoyable.
Like, fear is just, and that's what it's been this season.
It's just been enjoyable, right?
Yeah, it has.
Yeah, it has.
The plot stuff has had, it's like whatever.
It's, it's mediocre.
but the episodes have been enjoyable.
Yeah, they have.
Yes, they have.
This is another episode that was, you know, it was enjoyable.
No question.
There was...
Oh, sorry.
Go ahead.
And then you had, you know, the whole crew come up from Jenny's group except her,
and then they were going to fire the MRAP, but Dwight talked her out of it.
Well, Dwight was the one that brought them to the place, right?
And then that's when, you know, as...
Jason said we got ahead of ourselves, but that's when she realized, you know, that she had created the monster that she didn't want to create.
And so that he's talking her out of doing what she had talked him into doing.
Right.
Right.
So it started out.
She's like, don't be that guy.
Then she's like, be that guy.
Then she turns him in because he doesn't, he's not going along with the plan.
And she's like, oh, no, don't be that guy.
and then when he's talking you're away from mass murder of all these people,
she's like, wait, why aren't you that guy?
What?
Yes.
What?
Are you kidding me?
It's like, I don't know.
It was so psychotic.
I don't know.
I couldn't tell.
And I guess the biggest takeaway was, man, she does not feel like Dwight does.
Like, she is all messed up in the head.
Maybe Max is right.
Maybe she doesn't know what she.
wants to do, whether she has to stand up to a
Negan character or
just say, I finally
got what I want, you know, what I wanted, which is
my husband and leave. Maybe she's just so
conflicted, but it is agonizing to watch.
It was just so agonizing.
It is. And just to be clear,
I know that
we tried to point this out during text
during the program last night,
but Max,
avoid this.
Even though you won't
because none of us have,
those relationships happen and they're agonizing.
Yes.
Like every guy, I think, of Jeffrey and I's age,
have been in like 40 of these relationships
and you finally figure it out and marry the good one.
Yes.
And women are the same.
They've had guys like this as well.
I've never been through this situation, so I'm good.
You totally will.
It's guaranteed.
It's coming, bro.
There's that cray-cray chick.
or if you're a girl, there's that cray-cra dude.
And you realize very, this is like, okay, this is all about drama.
This is insane.
This person is insane.
I'm going to go with the other one.
Right now, I'm just going to say to you, in the future, when you bring one of them home, I'm just going to go, fear.
It's all I'm going to do.
I'm not going to say anything else.
We can sit down to dinner.
We can do whatever you want, but it's just going to be fear.
Yeah.
And if her name is Sherry.
Hell no.
Do not get through the front door?
Nope, not tonight.
We're busy.
So I'm also, my favorite part, I think, as we, you know, wrapped up and we had, you know, we had the, we had the cowboy town people show up.
And the skate park cowboys were invisible.
They could not be seen by Virginia's people.
They just showed up in a parking lot, didn't see anything and left, which was, okay.
All right, whatever.
And then we decided that we were going to go with Morgan, right?
The whole group decides, hey, we're going to, okay, you win.
We're going to go start a new life.
Nope.
What do you mean, nope?
The whole group didn't go with Morgan.
The only people that went with Morgan was Al, Dwight, and the people from the hospital.
Oh, yeah, okay.
Well, yeah, right.
The masked people, the skate park people stayed.
Yeah, and Sherry stayed with mask people.
Right.
Okay, but I did love the part where the only thing,
the reason I'm telling the story, though, is I love that in the end,
Morgan is riding the horse and everybody else is walking.
I love that.
You ready to go?
Yeah, okay.
Me too.
Follow me.
I'm the horse.
Yeah.
What's problem?
Oh, I'm sorry, honey.
Your feet hurt?
Oh, okay.
That's a shame.
Just keep walking.
Keep up as he can.
We're starting a new life.
where I'm going, okay, so.
Why did they take the MRAP? Why wasn't that not even a question?
Wasn't even a question. And the truck. They just left the truck with the figure eight on it.
I didn't get that either.
Did a round of gas or something like that?
I didn't think they could ever run out of that.
And I think the MRAP, here's the thing. I think even though the MRAP is Al's, I think the mask people would have put up a fight.
So I think the mask people still have the MRAP.
That's fine. I'll take my chances in the MRAP over the,
over the mats people.
Yeah, no kidding.
I'm not quite sure I
did understand all of that.
But another thing we had Dwight and
and Al fake their deaths
like they kind of planned to a couple episodes
ago, remember?
Oh, yeah.
Find a fresh walker, beat up the face,
put on their clothes, tie them up.
They've been setting that up for a while.
Yeah, that's Dwight's plan. That's a good plan, actually.
If Virginia buys it.
We'll see how that works out.
Yeah, I don't know that they'll buy it.
Yeah, I think they're definitely setting up something catastrophic is going to happen with the masked riders.
Well, Virginia might buy it, but our man, John, the investigator, won't buy it, right?
He'll know the difference.
That's a good point.
That's a very good point.
That might be how he, you know, starts his own, you know, grabs June and gets the heck out of there.
Figures out that there's a new life somewhere with them, yeah.
Yeah.
Some of our people found the way out and they went somewhere.
Let's go find out where they went.
Yeah.
So, I mean, that could be our wrap up, right?
Because we've got a couple of episodes left before, I guess, the break.
We've got two episodes left before the holiday break.
I hate how they do that.
I know.
Because the next two episodes and then you're into Thanksgiving,
so they're not even, you know, fear won't be back.
until after the first of the year.
It'll be January, right?
Maybe even later.
Jeez.
Probably February. That's my guess.
Are you on the time frame?
You're inside on the AMC clock.
You know they're showing up February?
My guess is because of the times they've done this before.
Usually it's February or March.
It'll probably...
When does Walking Dead start back up?
probably March or April
They're going to start filming the extra episodes
If they haven't already because we got the news that
Neaghan's
Oh yes I'm excited for this
We'll get the flashback episodes of Negan right with his wife
Because his real life wife of Jeffrey D. Morgan
Is going to play his wife Lucille
In Rockett dead right
Yes I'm excited I've been wanting a Negan flashback episode
That's so cool
Yeah, and I hope it's a full episode, too.
I hope it's not just like really quick little flashbacks.
I hope there's a psychologist involved that gets him a fighting book and creates it.
Don't you dare.
Don't you dare.
Some martial artist out in the woods.
That's what creates Lucille.
A little stalent temple out in like New Jersey or something.
Thank you.
Yeah.
But the thing would be, too, that this whole episode that the comic will be based off of, I've read that comic.
That's definitely worth a full episode.
Yeah, for sure.
Oh, I mean, we're going to get more than that, right?
I mean, we've got to get more.
We'll get, because we're going to get maybe a full episode of a flashback, and then we've got to have a couple more little flashbacks of the creation of Lucille and that kind of thing, right, before he goes into full, full-born Negan.
Yeah.
So that'll be, I mean, that's a, and they've got 10 episodes to fill that they promised, right?
An extra, is it was an extra 10 or an extra six?
I think an extra six.
Extra six, yeah.
So.
I think they're filming them right now and they should be out by April, I think.
They said spring.
Well, that'll be good.
And I know, you know, world beyond, according to the IMDB, they've got like three episodes left.
That many?
I know.
I know.
Well, if we're going to, if we're moving on, want to go to World Beyond?
I mean...
Do we have to?
No, we don't have to, but we kind of have to.
I mean, Max, take it easy on the water bottle, bro.
You're killing me with the plastic.
Back away from the microphone.
I can't...
The world beyond.
Holy cow.
I can't tell you.
how god-awful disappointed I am in that show.
I know we've got the, we get a couple of, we get a couple of,
Easter eggs for the new crew in the kids' crew,
and then we always have the end credit scene.
That's the only reason to watch.
It really is.
What, the CRM stuff?
Yeah.
The rest of it, I mean, I did kind of enjoy the, the shadow puppets.
Oh, God.
I did.
I liked those.
I did too.
Come on,
come on, Jason.
I liked that scene.
It served no purpose whatsoever.
It's like, oh, let's do a little puppet show at the end.
He said, it was entertainment.
He was a magician.
He entertained in Vegas.
He was there.
It was part of the new world.
What was the point?
The end of the world.
It was bringing everybody together.
Forget, you know, forget there in a zombie apocalypse.
do this like light, you know, shows.
Zombies for 100 miles could be seeing this and coming to us right now.
Let's sit down and have an, oh, puppy.
You know, I realize you didn't have this, wait, I realize you didn't have this complaint
when they were having a movie at the kingdom.
In the kingdom.
It's kind of safe in there.
Yeah, it was, well, this was, they had the beatbox going and the shadow puppet box
out outside.
But I will say, I did enjoy the, I did it.
enjoy you. Now, I understand, Jason,
that you don't appreciate the arts.
I do. I understand that. So it's okay.
I don't really. I actually tweet
a story.
I'm not joking about it. I know
that.
Yeah, that's not a joke.
No,
that's the whole point of this. It's just so
ludicrous and stupid. I know.
Like, the whole episode was
let's get this truck.
You could have, that's
could have been the title. Let's get the truck.
The entire episode, they were trying to get a damn
truck. I know. How did they spread that out for an hour?
I have no idea. And the girl that's
what's her name that's
kind of in charge?
Oh, Iris.
Iris. She is agonizing.
Oh, so agonizing. Just agonizing.
I just want, and the whole time,
is there ever a time, ever a time during that?
show that you care if they die.
No. No.
Max?
I like Silas. Oh my God. They're your people.
I know. Never mind.
Nope. Nope. Silas. That's it. I'm saying Silas.
He's the, he's the Jeffie one. Is that right?
The big guy, yeah.
Yes, he's the athletically overweight guy. Yes.
Wait a minute. You don't like Silas, Jeff? He'd be your favorite, too.
He is, my man. I like him.
It's a serial killer.
And he was the smart one.
He was like, I don't trust this guy.
The only one that I think is even remotely interesting is the Corderoy kid.
Oh, Elton, yeah.
Elton's pretty good.
He's interesting to me.
He just seems like he's, I don't know, maybe it's the actor.
I don't know.
He's smart.
It seems that there's a lot of deaths to him.
And I hope that we could make him kind of go off the deep end as kind of a Morgan character.
because as soon as Homegirl
tells him
that she killed his mom,
I want him to kill her right then.
I just want him to kill her.
Get it over with.
Just be done with it and just say,
oh, man, I probably shouldn't have done that.
Oh, well.
And move on.
Yeah.
It's not going to happen.
It seemed kind of obvious
in the first episode or so that they wanted that chick.
What's her name, Max?
Oh, yeah.
Hope.
Hope.
Yeah.
That they wanted.
wanted her to be kind of like
the most interesting character or something like that.
She's pushing Iris.
Yeah, I don't get that.
I don't either.
Felix is a pretty good character, but
Yeah,
that whole show is
just, I mean, the only
reason to watch is the end credits,
which is very disappointing because you have
to sit through the whole thing.
So, hopefully next week
because they're going to be storming a CRM
a fueling station
so maybe we'll get some of that
see that pisses me off that makes
me want to pay attention
a little bit more and they know
they know I know
I know and it's going to be agonizing
they're like
our characters suck
our plot sucks so let's just sprinkle in
a little bit more of what we know everyone's really
here for right
it's just
good gosh man
right
I just I don't understand the whole
and everyone I don't
I'm done talking about it, because I don't understand the show.
I don't understand why it's, I guess it's to make it for the younger demographic, I guess.
Well, Max, you're that demographic, so are you enjoying it more than we are?
Probably, I don't know.
It's okay at best and bad at worst, like really bad at worst.
like really bad at worst but
like what my favorite
on board right
like one of my favorite
like one of my favorite shows
would probably be
other than you know the walking dead
one of them
I'm a geek so Doctor Who is one of them but
right
but that's not
I mean world beyond is
a far cry from that
oh definitely
Doctor Who on its worst day is better
than world beyond
mm-hmm
But anyway, so anyway, the next week for fear,
we have bury her next to Jasper's leg,
which may or may not be worthy
because we were going to break away and get back to John, right?
And then we have a next episode called Damage from the Inside,
which is going to wrap up the mid-season finale,
damage from the inside.
So I think maybe then we get maybe John figuring out that there's others out there, right?
Maybe we see a little bit of that next week.
And then we have the big break away from Virginia, which, you know, I'm okay with that whole crowd going away.
Yeah, me too.
With the Cowboy Con.
So they got to be setting up, yeah, like John maybe hooking up with John and June hooking up a Sherry possibly and starting to move out to that other community.
When you say John and June hooking up with Sherry.
Yeah, that's explore that.
Are you, I mean.
I was next, but yes.
I'm not that big a fan of June, but, you know, whatever.
She's already there.
I mean, just for a pure ratings.
Yes.
Oh, my God.
Absolutely.
Yeah.
Scamp.
Because you never know.
I mean, when you run into each other, you need.
to change clothes.
That has to happen.
Yeah.
I said, Skip.
Right?
Where you showering at?
In the river.
You know what I mean?
Thank you.
Thank you.
My God, we've just, that needs to happen on World Beyond.
Anyway, this has been fear, and make sure that you subscribe to chewing the fat so that
each week when this show drops, you know that it drops.
And so subscribe to Chewing the Fat podcast, please.
