Season 6, episode 6 of Fear the Walking Dead, titled,
Barry Her Next to Jasper's Leg.
And that makes this talking walking dead.
Welcome to it.
Jeff Fisher, Jason Mitchell, and Maximus Fisher, another week of Fear, the Walking Dead.
And we've got to get into a little bit of world beyond as well, because we are in the dead universe.
but we'll get started with fear and bury her next to Jasper's leg.
At the end of the episode, I'll get us started today because at the end of the episode,
I felt like I didn't like it.
Then as the night wore on and I woke up this morning, I thought, yeah, it wasn't that bad.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, I guess I like all of these, I enjoy watching it, but then I'm, this is a trend now.
I'm getting set up for like an ultimate disappointment at the end.
I know.
You know, like, I'm all on board.
I'm like, there's cool, flashy stuff going on and everything.
And then something at the end where I'm like, why did you do that?
This is at least a second week in a row for that.
Right.
At least. I know.
I thought it was an okay episode.
Some scenes were really good.
Others, meh, and the ending,
I bet a lot of people were divided on that.
Just like John and June are divided.
Okay, well, let's get to that a little bit later.
Actually, that would be the very end.
That wasn't what I was disappointed in.
It was something else.
We could get to that later.
Oh, well, I believe I would be willing to bet.
I know exactly.
I would be willing to bet that.
And if we do reach that point, I'll admit if I'm not right, but I think I am.
So we started off with, you know, Ginny, Virginia, the head of Western Khan.
Lawton.
Yeah, okay, Lawton.
And she's out running around with her timber crew, who is part of the end is the beginning people.
And I thought that was interesting that the lady ended up killing herself.
Before, you know, even answering what they're doing.
She wasn't going to go through any torture.
She wasn't going to go through any of that.
She was saying it's about the future.
But not for me.
Boom.
So what is?
Well, my thing is, okay, so we know the two people Morgan killed when they wrote it on the boat were there and were part of this group.
And Al thought they were the ones that put the bubonic plague in that hospital.
Right.
So who is this group?
Yeah, it's a big group.
And didn't they say they didn't know who Virginia was?
That one, those two guys did.
Yeah, the two guys did.
Which is weird, because it's a large group.
They've infiltrated Latin, but some of them don't know about Latin.
Right.
Kind of strange.
Yeah, I don't know.
Unless there's a new bad person that we're, you know, has got.
his group divided doing things separately that we haven't met yet.
Yeah, I mean, we don't really know, you know, but it's just a way to think about it.
I don't know.
I don't know who these dinkleberries are.
And then we go on to...
Well, I will say, you know, I will say that if anything that she's committed suicide,
it shows that there's a larger conspiracy going on.
It's not just...
Definitely.
And believers, right?
Yeah, actually, yeah, for sure.
Yeah. So, I mean, could get ugly.
You know, we're coming up on the mid-season finale.
You know, she mentioned the, you know, what do you call it, Western Khan or whatever?
So even their speech, that's what annoyed me about the king.
Even their speech, they're doing it like this cosplay thing.
Like when they say, where'd they bury that leg?
Over there, yonder over there.
If they didn't edit, you know, like, shut up.
You know, it's funny?
One of my best friends actually speaks like that, so I'm used to it.
And he's a Texas boy, so there you go.
And so he's just around the corner from wherever they're shooting this.
I'm sure.
It's like, so the zombie apocalypse, so our speech, you know, degrades back to the 1800s?
Nah, I don't think so.
Well, then we have to get over to the oil fields.
Well, actually, first we had June, we had June and 7.
trucker lady's back
uh june and sarah tried to help the one guy
with appendinitis
oh yeah with the semi-trailer surgery
uh
doing surgery with the
uh with the surgery for dummies book
yeah from a book i was like
this guy is screwed
who can't do that
turn the page we're good
I loved when uh he went flatline
and what's her name was like
was that from the cut oh no definitely
from the uh from the bacteria
from the appendix.
That wasn't from what I did.
It wasn't actually a slice through his kidney.
The attorneys in the tractor are coming back.
He turned pretty fast.
Yeah, he was a fast turn.
Although my guess was because we've never really seen someone try to CPR somebody
when they died and then they turned.
Maybe that gets the blood rushing faster, making them turn faster?
I guess that's possible, sure.
but it was interesting that we have the
you know the mobile hospital
that was kind of cool
yeah I mean it was just interesting
and then we had the quarry explosion
which was you know nice because we got to see
see your girl
all covered in oil
I said oiled up that's not what I meant
I didn't mean like Texas crude
so they got that
wrong I was like no no no I didn't
You'd say oiled up, but not that type of oil.
You didn't specify.
You didn't specify.
They've got to be more specific.
It was interesting that you'd think.
It's interesting that the group, this larger group that we, you know, we don't know who they are,
would want to destroy a place that's creating gasoline for the new kingdom, right?
That didn't make any sense
You'd think that they'd want to take that over
Yeah unless they're just not ready yet
So they're just doing like kind of guerrilla hit and run stuff
To try just to disrupt them
And burn it all
Just in that kind of like today's world
Just burn it all down
We'll start again
Yeah
Yeah
Mm-hmm
There's so much we don't know about this group
I don't even get the whole the end
Is the beginning thing
I have no idea
I don't think anybody does it's
Well I mean if you go like
If you go by that, then it is burn it all down, right?
Yeah.
And at the beginning, we want to destroy everything, and we'll start again.
So it's basically Antifa in The Walking Day.
Yeah.
Exactly right.
And so it was kind of fun at the oil fields with the explosions and the gas burning,
and the oil spurting from the sky.
It was kind of fun.
What's crazy is I completely forgot about all these characters.
I actually forgot about the truck drivers,
completely forgot about them,
forgot about the oil thing,
forgot about all that stuff.
It's been how long has it been since they went back to this plot line?
It's been a long time.
It's been a long time.
Yeah, it's been a long time.
But no, it was cool.
That's why I was like, the whole thing,
I guess that's when I say the flashy stuff.
I enjoyed all of that.
Yeah.
And then them turning, you know,
as the people that died in a blast began to turn,
they had to fight them off.
The people in the tractor trailer that it all turned when they were going to go.
That was all good.
Yeah, that was really fun.
and they had, and that was quick turning too, right?
So maybe it's the oil.
That's true.
But then, of course, we had, surprisingly,
yes, the oil.
Surprising we had Virginia go down there with June and Lucy and Sarah because she wanted to figure out what that hell was going on.
Well, she knew, she knows that she's under attack, right?
She's under attack not only from people on the inside, but from people on the outside.
Yeah, that'll be curious to see because she said that she was going to have a conversation with June later just about what was going on.
I'm curious if she does know a lot more or if she's just as in the dark.
Does she just know that she's under attack or does she know by whom and what's about?
I don't know.
It seems like she doesn't know.
She knows that she knows that there's still, you know, Morgan and people that she knows God away is attacking.
but I don't think she knows who these people are.
The people that Sherry is with, they're not part of that group, are they?
No, those guys are the runaways that ran away from Lawton.
God, there's so many different groups.
We've just splintered the country.
We don't know.
You mean Texas.
You mean Texas.
Yes, Texas.
So then we get to the magical part of the,
the giant explosion,
and we get knocked out,
and then we wake back up,
and the walker is on top of us.
And fighting the walker off,
Virginia gets bit.
The entire time,
I was like my dream scenario is that she gets bit.
That's what I was thinking at the very beginning,
but then I was like,
nah,
no way.
There's no way to get rid of her.
Well, Max was big on thinking
that Morgan would finish her off,
you know, give her a chance to lay.
That still may happen.
Yeah.
Morgan gives her a chance to come to his side and she says no, so she gets, you know, she gets the Morgan stick in the skull.
That would be the best.
Yes.
For sure.
Yes.
But even still.
Oh, my gosh.
I've never been more frustrated.
Like, it happened.
It's done.
June is on our side.
She's doing exactly what we wanted to do.
She just had the conversation with John.
I know.
She's ready to leave.
Yes.
She just had the conversation with John.
and it's about we can get this, we can end this rule right now.
And then this entire thing, her watching all this stuff, how evil she is, was just confirmation, right?
This is like, okay, yeah, these people are bad.
I need to get out of here.
I was really surprised at the back talk to Virginia between June and, what's her face, your girl.
Luciana
and even
trucker lady
you know
that whole back talk
is just like
if I'm Virginia
I shoot them right now
if I'm Virginia
you start back
talking to be like that
in the middle of this
yeah
no we're done
yeah
then there was a shrap
then there was the guy
well yeah
in the middle of that guy
with the metal in his stomach
and we're
giving him a quick torture
because we want information
and she starts
not wanting to do that
uh no
But so, no, so this is ridiculous.
All of that, but the promise of a hospital changed it for her?
Right.
I mean, what?
Right.
And then she cut off the hand.
Oh, we'll get to the climax part.
Because she had the opportunity.
Because she started off with no.
You know, say me, no.
In fact, I may just watch you die right here, but I'm not doing.
doing anything to help you.
And then with,
and we can get to the hand cut off to save her,
because we all know we're saying,
well, you've got to cut off the arm now.
The arm's got to go at least shoulder length, right?
I mean, elbow length.
At least to the elbow.
Yeah, because that was a while.
Yeah.
She did put the tourniquet on, though,
so maybe that, but still.
I don't know.
I don't know.
In other universe happenings,
it seems that it was a long time before we did any departure of arm bits,
and it should have been higher.
But anyway, you know, she ends up cutting off her hand.
That leaves her still in charge because she's going to get a building that says a hospital on it.
And then June's in charge of it?
Yeah, she goes, but we'll be in charge.
Will you?
How stupid and naive are you?
Right.
Remember John was like she pulled the world over your eyes like she did me.
Yeah, it didn't make any sense.
The theme of this is like chicks suck.
I mean, over the past few weeks, it's like this season, chick suck.
Every single one, it's like at the end.
Like the dude gets screwed over.
Welcome to life.
Anyway, it was interesting that I loved.
What's your face of the trucker lady?
Oh, Sarah.
Sarah.
Call your Captain Hook.
That was great.
It was awesome.
Yeah.
I'm a fan of her being Captain Hook now.
She's great.
Oh, you got her reunited with her brother.
That was cool.
Oh, yeah.
The handicapped guy's still alive.
We're still taking care of this guy.
What?
Are you kidding me?
Come on, man.
I know.
You're kidding me?
He's got a driver.
He's being hauled around in a handicapped van?
Who is this guy?
They don't have, they don't have, it's the zombie apocalypse,
but they were able to outfit a van to be a handicap accessible.
Right.
It's a driver, and he's just like, I don't get it.
And then he finally got out and they showed, what's her name, Sarah?
The trucker, yeah, pushing him back to the semi or whatever,
so I guess the lift still works into the semi for him.
Because they are, they personally outfitted that.
semi- for him. Yeah, but... Yeah, no, I know. It's still
handicap accessible.
I just...
I mean, I love... I'm happy
with the character, I guess. It was just like,
what are we doing? I was just
at that point in the show, I was just
so, like, annoyed
at, like, these stupid
decisions in June. Like,
I just... Yeah, she really bugged me.
She really bugged me.
Because I thought, you know, John had
really laid out
his vision. We got to get out of
here.
You know, you have to tell me.
You have to tell me.
Let me let me in.
And he was like, yeah, you know, we just got to get the F out of here.
And she still backs off with that.
It was really strange.
I mean, I get the, she, like, made one comment, like, we, I don't want to run anymore.
And I guess I get that sentiment, but I don't know.
Like, there's a big difference between I don't want to constantly be running or I want to, like, settle into a group that's evil.
with like an evil leader.
I don't understand that at all.
Being under the thumb of a dictator.
Huh.
Strange.
I don't know.
I don't know, man.
John's face when she was like trying to convince him was so...
I know!
He's a good actor.
Oh, he's a great actor.
And then, of course, you have the ending
where they're driving off, John's tail and behind the semi.
Then you get to the fork in the road,
And he turns.
Of course.
I mean, he has to, right?
Made me so happy.
I know, he has to.
And screw them.
Go ahead.
You know what?
I'm tired of June anyway.
You're tired of her, too.
Yeah, that made me so happy.
Like, he stood by his ideals and was like, because you know that's tearing him up.
He wants to be with his wife.
Yeah.
But not if it means, you know, I guess, perpetuating this evil community.
Right.
And so now, I mean, what's the thinking that he goes and he, of course, you know, stumbles across Morgan.
Of course.
Or Dwight.
And then he figures he can go rescue the wife and convince her one more time, right?
That's going to happen.
Yeah.
I mean, that's the mid-season finale will be, I don't know that anybody dies, but it'll be the beginning of the face-off, right?
We had the episode at the beginning of the face-off with Morgan and Dwight against Western Con.
That's, again, that's what's so stupid.
This is not like a Negan community.
There was always Simon.
So if you knock off Negan, there was always the threat of Simon and it being even worse.
Right.
But Virginia is literally the only personality holding that group together.
There's nobody underneath her.
She's got a couple of hardcore dewboys.
I mean, she has some of the Rangers, but then she made, then she made Strand and John Arranger.
And Strand's trying, you know what, we all know what Trans trying to do.
Well, it's good for Strand.
Actually, Strand would have probably would have been, he probably would have made a big push to take over if she would have been taken out.
Now'd have been great.
Yes.
But a hospital.
She promised me a hospital.
So let's just keep a stash.
She comes back with the hook.
I did like the Walker with the fingernails.
Oh, yeah.
The spikes.
So that was the confirmation that was sabotage.
I didn't quite understand that.
I don't know.
I mean, I get the idea of it, but did they go on before and then she turned?
Or did someone put them on a walker already?
because they used walkers there in the oil fields.
They use the walkers already.
That's what turns the wheel, right?
Yeah.
And the walkers with the rats or whatever in the boxes that turn the wheel,
which is actually a good idea.
I like it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Again, it shows that there's more of an effort here to, I don't know,
to bring, there's a larger group out here that's, you know,
planning something.
But I don't know how you would weaponize these walkers.
and somehow get them into this closed facility.
I don't know.
Right.
So.
It's probably the most guarded, you know, location in all of the state of Texas in this show.
Right.
But they're sneaking in zombies with claws.
Right.
It was just a thought.
Put a better weapon on them, you know.
We'll put some little pins and some razor blades on their fingertips.
It's probably actually the easiest way to do it because then you won't notice.
And people won't notice.
So when they grab you, most people are used to being grabbed by walkers.
So when they grab you, they like slice you up.
Stupid.
Tie some machoen swords on their arms or something like that.
Yeah.
I know we'll glue some fingernails on them.
It's really funny.
So I'm kind of looking forward to
Laser beams on their foreheads.
Right, something, right?
So I'm looking forward to the season finale,
or a mid-season finale.
I know we have to wait another 18 years
for the next round of fear.
And then maybe hopefully that'll pick up
about the time that we get an episode
or two of Walking Dead back, right?
Because they're filming now,
the main show, they're filming the extra episodes
of season.
10 right now, right?
Because they hired Jeffrey Dean Morgan's wife to play Lucille as, you know, for the flashback episodes.
And speaking of flashback episodes, we'll move on to World Beyond.
World Beyond.
Now we've made fun of this show since the beginning.
We're at, what, episode seven now?
Out of ten.
And the shows have been...
to say the very least, not that good.
But this was the best episode this season.
Last night's episode was pretty good.
Because of the ending?
Not just because of the ending.
I actually, it carried through in my...
Yeah, I enjoyed the flashbacks of Huck.
I mean, she's one of your people, bro.
She's a Marine.
Heck, she picked up that pin behind you.
Yeah, those of you are, you know, watching the...
the video cast.
There isn't one.
But in Jason's little,
you know,
live room,
Skype office where he does his professional hits.
He has,
you know,
he has a framed Marine
thing.
And,
you know,
that Marine thing.
So she's one of your people.
I thought the flashback,
I really enjoyed the flashback.
This,
the flashback of the episode
was a,
I was actually kind of what I was hoping the very beginning of fear would be.
Exactly.
The actual beginning of fear, I thought would be how they handled the flashback of Huck and World Beyond last night.
I feel you, I got that vibe when in one of the flashbacks where they were in the bar and in the radio broadcast.
Yeah, the very beginning of day one.
That's the stuff I'm interested in, for sure, and how they responded afterwards.
And how their response or flashbacks was with her unit responding and the orders they were getting of what they had to do and the struggles that these military men had to go through and her struggles.
I mean, she killed her own men, right, to save those people.
Yeah.
I really love the flashbacks.
And what was the one thing that, oh, the one thing that, my favorite thing that we'd never seen before in this episode.
And I know you're already poo-poo and be out of the one.
world beyond because, I mean, did you watch the entire thing?
Did you fast forward through it all or did you watch it?
I fast forward to through a lot of stuff.
Okay.
But one of the things that they showed in one of her flashbacks in the very beginning
when they were before they got the orders to kill everything, no matter what, they
were going in to save the people who were alive and the lights went on and they put the
infrared lights on.
And you saw the difference between the walkers.
and the live people.
We've never seen that before.
Right?
They showed the, you know, it looked like, you know,
Max called, you know, the body lower in the walkers.
Yeah.
So that's how they could tell who was alive and who was, you know,
a walker.
Right.
And that was fascinating.
We've never seen that before.
Yeah, you're right.
The flashbacks were interesting.
The problem is I don't care about her at all.
So I kind of disagree.
Yeah, I do.
too.
Really?
As a character, I really do not care.
Maybe it's because I don't care about the story in general,
so it's really hard for me to get into the characters.
Well, I know.
I know.
I'm with you on that.
Oh, I think we're all with you on that.
Don't you start coming on board now, Mr.
I love it.
I never said I loved it.
Jeez.
Go back to last episode.
No, you know you did.
I've grown on the serial killer kid
Silas
He's been a serial killer from the very beginning
I love him and he got jealous all last night
Got his little panties in a wad over
Homeboy liking his girl
It was great
You knew he was going to snap on that
Yeah
So we've got that to look forward to
Next week on how they deal with serial killer boy
However one thing I did notice
I rewatch that scene
He didn't kill Percy
Percy's still alive.
It was Tommy, his uncle, that he killed.
I think he killed them both.
No, because you see a blood trail going out the window like he did before.
Percy ran out the window.
Okay.
So I'm not convinced that he did kill him.
He might have killed him but because he was onto him about something.
But I'm not convinced that he's the serial killer.
That's what they want you to think for sure.
But that makes no sense.
He's like a major character on the show.
and I really doubt they're going to say that, yeah, he was a serial killer the whole time, and he's back.
My guess is, because I never trusted these two to begin with, is that they were up to something.
He overheard them or saw them do something, and he responded and the fight broke out,
and he just beat the crap out of the uncle.
I like that.
I like that.
But they're going to pin this on him because of his past.
You know, they set that up from the very beginning.
Yeah, they did.
Although I like that.
I like the way you think, Jason.
That's probably a really good call.
Oh, we got to be it.
Today's episode sponsored by Mountain Dew.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
And I, you know, that was fascinating the way that they,
the way they did that where, you know,
they show you the big,
big Mountain Dew sign at the store.
Under the bridge.
Just before the break.
Yeah.
And then,
It leads into a Mountain Dew commercial.
It leads into a Mountain Dew commercial.
And then coming out of the break, a couple minutes in, we're drinking a Mountain Dew.
Yeah.
That is awesome.
And then I read an article that it was obviously all planned, obviously a deal within the dead universe and PepsiCo.
And of course, my favorite quote from the story, which is all BS.
was, let's see, of course AMC Networks,
senior vice president of integrated marketing
stated that bringing that kind of product placement
is something the team loved bringing to the live action series,
but noted that those kind of products will meet authentic reasons
for their appearances.
Will they?
Will they?
PepsiCo spent how much money to be a part of the universe?
Yeah.
authentic reason.
Hey, we're walking down a road.
Might as well put up a billboard.
So ridiculous.
I love it.
It's so ridiculous that product placement can get kind of funny.
You know, I would never resort to that.
But I would say that, you know, I'm really glad that, you know, I, you know, in times like this,
gold line would be a very, very good thing to look into.
This isn't sponsors, Jason.
I would personally look into gold line.
You know, I would also have a good supply, a ration,
of Keeps hair product
for men so I can keep my
due looking okay. In times of
struggle. In times of struggle. Even in
the apocalypse you're going to want a full head
of hair. Right. So keeps.com
Exactly.
And for pain management,
you know, you won't have talent, all the
much stuff like that. What are some things?
Anyway, back to the show. Those all get outdated, but I was
thinking that perhaps if you had a little bit of
relief factor. Oh, relief factor.
Perfect. Yes.
They give us a 20-day quick start.
Yes, thank you.
Didn't you, okay, back to the show.
Didn't you enjoy the, did you, Jeffie, enjoy the truth or dare scene?
Yeah, I mean, you do what it was going to end up being, right?
You knew it was going to end up being that she was going to struggle with having to tell Elton.
And I thought it was an interesting, you know, interesting dialogue between her and Huck there,
talking about why you wouldn't tell Elton.
and she came to that conclusion,
telling him meant that it was for her, not him.
Yeah.
It was definitely the best episode so far.
Can they keep it up?
I don't know.
And do I really care about any of these characters?
Very little.
Not really, yeah.
Very little.
I will say that.
Most of my favorite scenes out of this show have been with Elton.
I don't know why, but he's clearly my favorite character in this.
And even that after that truth or dare scene, when he went out, stopped her when she was going up the stairs.
Yeah.
Yeah, that was a good thing.
He was obviously drunk.
And she pointed that out.
And she goes maybe, what did she say?
She said something along the eyes, maybe you should go or do something.
And he just had this moment where he kind of paused, almost looked at the camera.
And it was like, yeah.
You know, or something like that and walked.
He just, it was good.
Yeah, it was fun.
There was no doubt it was fun.
So anyway, you know, I will say for it.
It took seven episodes, forcing me to watch it for universe information to say that it wasn't bad.
Do they keep it up?
I don't know.
It's going to be hard because, like we said, you know, the characters are tough to wrap around.
Yeah.
Tough to wrap.
Next episode is a Silas episode, so.
Well, yeah, I mean, we got to deal with the serial killer, right?
So it'll be interesting to see if your call on that is right.

No, I mean, I'm liking the direction. Fear is trending.
So there's a lot of mystery, but I think that them exploring that's going to be really cool in the second half of the season.
This year has been a fun year for fear.
Yeah.
No question.
Yeah, it's been good.
Even the episodes, the last couple episodes, even those that have been, you know, I mean, I really want to like them.
They have still been enjoyable.
So it's well worth a while.
I'm looking forward to watching them.
It's a weird roller coaster that they've been on.
It's taking them all the way to this season to find a model that works for them.
Right.
So it's been trial and error all the way up until now, which is wild, and it still gets really good ratings.
So we've all been watching and tuning into an experience.
that they already just figured out.
I know.
And the thing is, is that they figured it out
because we told them here on this podcast
at least a year ago, maybe longer,
what will work for them?
Yeah.
And we were right.
Yeah, no kidding.
Yeah, I agree with that.
And World Beyond, this episode was,
okay, it was the best episode this season.
The others, not so much.
Thanks for listening to Talking Walking Dead.
