Today is Walking Dead World Beyond.
Season one, episodes 9 and 10, season finale, titled The Deepest Cut and in This Life.
That makes this talking walking dead.
Energy, water, medicine, transport, the council, the courts, the schools,
Culture, currency and economy, agriculture, manufacture.
We are the last light of the world.
We are the last hope.
Welcome to it.
Myself, Jeff Fisher, Jason Buttrell, Maximus Fisher.
How are you?
Culture, the light of the world, all that UK crap.
Yeah, just drive the dead.
dagger in and twist it.
I know.
I know.
Come on.
I know.
I know.
So, both episodes, you know, the IMDB description series of setbacks causes a member of the group to re-evaluate their role in the mission.
And someone makes a surprising discovery.
A startling revelation casts everything in a new light.
And the next episode was a divided group struggles to reunite.
others set their sights on a greater good.
I'd say what?
The titles were very, very apt.
You know, the deepest cut in this life for me was real.
I think there was going to be another season after this and that it was two hours long.
I don't understand how you didn't realize there was another season when they've been saying it for the past ever.
I think it was hope, Maximus, you know what I mean?
If I hope that one day I'm going to get in better shape like I was when I was in my 20s,
I still believe it might happen.
So I keep the gym membership open, even though I don't think I'll ever go back.
Let me tell you, hang on to that for as long as you want, Jason.
You might as well let that gym membership go, bro.
Because, you know, someone remarkably close to me did the same thing and doesn't work.
Anyway.
Yeah, so we do have another season, and we have what's good news about,
the universe now is we actually have
Walking Dead to look forward to coming up after our
holiday break, February 28th, right?
So, I mean, that's good news, and that's when we'll be back
with Talking Walking Dead.
Because we have the season 10 extra six episodes.
And I think that's when fear comes back on.
And fear should be back on then too as well.
So that, you know, that'll be great.
But I wanted to wrap up the universe because we got
we did have
you know some flashbacks and some
memory recalls during these
last two episodes last night that
you know kind of brought some things into perspective
you know during the show Max was like
hey and we're learning a lot about CRM too
but really we didn't
they showed us some stuff about them but we really didn't
we really didn't learn anything about them
yeah that we didn't already know
still real secretive like we know they got a bunch of crap
like the clip you just played
I did see that.
I know they got a lot of stuff, but beyond that.
Because we've seen the soldiers before.
We saw the soldiers in this episode.
We've seen the helicopter before.
So we didn't really, I don't know that we really learned anything, right?
Well, we did learn that the dad is alive.
Yeah.
And not in danger at all.
Well, I think that's true up until the end.
Yeah, that's true.
Yeah.
he might be getting himself into danger.
Because the other doc, the one that's, you know, kind of looks like the one in charge, the lady,
she is all was in love and everything and setting them up to say,
to let him know that the daughter was on the way.
And then, you know, then he,
then he threw the, I think we're being lied to.
Yeah.
That's the thing, though.
He said he trusts the, he trusts the main, the main civilian government.
He doesn't trust the military.
yeah well i mean anytime we have uh a government led by the military not trusting the military
means i don't know something called a bullet in the head yeah that's what happens that's another
thing we so he seems that's again that more i guess intrigue to the CRM group like who was the
civilian government we've met no one from it yeah no i guess i guess this change
the Julia Armand actress.
I'm assuming she's the head of the military.
Yes.
Okay, yeah, because I mean her daughter, right, Huck.
Jennifer.
Huck.
Is, you know, her undercover agent, but not doing wonderful.
She kind of grew to like some of the our people, the world beyond people.
So she's trying to keep them alive.
I got it.
And one of the other things that happened, and we can go through the, you know, the episode and some of the, some of the high points, if there were some.
But Rick Grimes never showed up either.
Yeah.
Spoiler alert.
Spoiler alert.
I was talking about a clickbait interview that was.
I know.
I know.
It's exactly what it was.
They were like, there's no way people are going to tune in for two hours.
We got to throw them some kind of, you know, little phone for them to chase around the track.
I was looking hard too
The very last scene
I was looking so hard in that group
I was like is he there
Is he there?
There was a guy in the middle
That kind of
Scruff
And I was like
Is it is it?
They cut it off
I was like crap
I gotta go back and look to see
Because I think
I think what they did
Is they told Silas
Our serious serial killer
Look
You either say
You do the Rick
Clickbait
thing
On the show that follows
or instead of you just getting arrested,
we'll have you killed and you're off the show.
And so he said, okay, I'll do it.
I'll do it.
Just arrest me.
Just arrest me.
I still want a paycheck.
It's possible he's,
it's possible he's read into,
you know,
what happens immediately.
So it's possible.
That's true.
They're taking him somewhere.
My God,
you're working for the universe now,
aren't you?
You're taking money.
from Potter. Okay.
So, I don't know.
I went through, I don't know what I really liked
and what I didn't for the episode.
Go ahead, Max. Go ahead and give me a Maximus recap
of what you liked and what you didn't.
Then we can say that you're wrong. Go ahead.
The first episode, I thought, was the worst one out of the two.
I thought out of the two episodes, the second one
was the better one. Yeah.
The first episode, it didn't really have much.
other than the stuff with Huck,
nothing else really super mattered
except maybe the whole
searching, but that involves Huck.
Like searching the whole
retirement home and then her lying about
the one medic room saying it just has bodies
in it where they decided to shoot themselves.
Right.
But, uh,
and then you had the stuff with Elton,
your favorite character, Jason,
where he, uh,
where he's trying, where he found Percy.
Yeah.
I guess the, hmm, I was, let me just come out with it.
Ford, the entire, what was it, two hours of it, even the things that I think that I should have been okay with, like the, you know, like the saving Percy and all that stuff.
Right.
You know, Elton, even still, it just seemed kind of goofy to me, really.
Him talking to this, like, apparition while this guy's laying down there.
It was interesting to find out that he got shot.
So that kind of led to, you know, what we already knew.
Both groups finding out that Huck was the one that was on the inside trying to tear them apart.
Yeah.
So they both found out, you know, on their own different ways.
And we found out that what's her name?
Hope.
Yeah, Hope is the, you know, it's the late great.
is the next great hope.
Is it the asset.
Yep.
Yeah, she's the hope for the future, right?
One thing that kind of stood out in my mind there with that,
I thought all that was just stupid.
I'm like, okay, whatever.
But, like, why the huge,
why they just didn't the dad's beginning?
Or,
her dad was.
Or even the next time,
prior to the wiping out of the,
of the university, right?
When they came to look at everything,
why not just say, okay, you know,
bring the two daughters and
Hawk and bring Felix if you have to.
Bring them all.
Yeah, let's go.
Could have converted them after they,
if the justification was they,
because they wanted her to see the importance,
like taking her to this great place,
it's got all these, you know,
coach and all that other stuff
would have converted her when she got there.
So I, the whole show seemed pointless.
It just went back to episode one and been done with it.
From what Huck explained, I do agree with you though, Jason.
Don't get me wrong.
I agree with you.
But from how they explained it,
it seemed like they wanted her to see the world
and why it was important to have the CRM
instead of just going from one protected bubble
to another protective bubble.
Do a flyover in the helicopter.
Look at that hurt.
It sucks.
Oh, look at that dude.
He just killed that kid.
The world sucks.
Do a flyover.
Look at that.
Do you want that or this?
Yeah.
I mean, it does, and it does seem a little drawn out.
Yeah.
To get where we were going.
But then, you know, we wouldn't have the show.
And we wouldn't have.
knowing that
how
Felix and Will are
so in love.
Oh my gosh, man.
Come on.
Yeah.
I'm saying, Jason, I got to call you out on something.
Yeah.
You seem to always love the
lesbian gay scenes,
but you don't like the
male gay scenes.
How is this hard to understand?
how is this hard to understand
that's a good point
I'm just saying it's a double standard
and
I mean
we know it's a double standard
it's okay
that's just the way it is
I'm
not a mystery of the people that know me
at all
I
I don't know. I just, and then we found, you know, we found out that Huck was the one that injured Felix, which I thought was interesting.
Just because I don't know, all everything else around that seemed, I guess, I don't know, the whole thing, you're right.
You know what?
Could have just gone back to episode one.
That one scene, though, was kind of interesting how the, uh, the walkers all coordinated to surround them perfectly in a circle like that.
right well is it in the barbed wire the barbed wire walkers yeah yeah yeah that was awesome maybe the walkers are getting a little bit more intelligent or something like that you know they can do a little formation let's do the diamond formation next time guys instead of the circle formation well isn't that what a isn't that what the whispers were doing yeah right uh b perhaps huck set that up right that's what you gotta that's what you've got to read into that is that she set that up right because she purpose she
purposefully popped the tire.
I mean, that's what you got to
believe, right? And then I just have a hard time that we haven't
figured out like they're running from the walkers and they're
pushing them away. And, you know, it took all 10
episodes to finally get to a point of, yeah, you got
to stick something sharp in their head. And then
you're done with it. Okay. Well, Felix and Huck did that
all the time. It was the kids
that really had trouble with that.
We saw Huck push him away there at the lake, too, with the trees thing
and the wraparound with the trees doing the same stupid thing.
I mean, Felix, with the same stupid thing.
Back at the lake or the river.
You got to have special training from Huck,
how she specially trained, air-quoted hope,
you know, in the art of sticking something sharp into a mindless zombie's head.
You got, work your angles.
You work your angles.
It's like, shut up.
You're stupid.
All that good trades paying off.
Touched how to work the angles.
Like, oh, God.
It was awesome.
I will say that.
If we want them to be known in the art of the stick, let's bring in Morgan.
I will say that Justin commented as during the show.
I have a couple of people now that are messaging me using Facebook Messenger during the show.
No, I'm not going to give you my, you're not joining in our text group.
Okay, just message me.
But he sent me two or three messages last night.
The first one was,
World Beyond is just nauseating.
Right on.
The second is I'm really curious about your take on how Hope was holding the gun
when she had it pointed at Huck.
The teacup hold isn't something that anyone with any training would do,
despite the fact that we're to believe that
The only reason these kids have survived is because of their classroom training.
For me, that was one of those things I couldn't suspend disbelief on.
I could look past the gay tension between Elton and Percy and the soap opera between Felix and Bill.
But for God's sake, let's get the pistol grip right.
That's great.
That's really good.
And it's very apt, how he called it the soap opera, because that has been what it feels like.
Yeah.
You know, like the plot line between, you know, Felix and his, you know, lover and, oh, there's tension in the beginning because he's a professor and he wants to do my security clearances.
And now I love him.
And we're sitting at the, you know, oh, but he, you stabbed me in the back.
You know, you expect to hear the soap opera, dun, you know.
An affair with my own brother?
Come on.
Well, you as a writer understand that kind of twist.
Well, hasn't almost every romance in The Walking Dead,
straight or homosexual, been a soap opera anyway?
Think Rick and Michone.
Yeah, I mean, kind of.
Not like this, though.
I mean, come on.
Well, and this is, look, and that's the difference, right?
I mean, World Beyond is, you know, the teen show,
for the most part that we, you know,
they're throwing into the universe.
and they're giving us CRM stuff to keep those of us that are on the line for walking and fear
will still be on the line for World Beyond and hoping to add new audiences with it being sort of a teen soap opera playground, right?
I mean, that's their hope.
That's not a bad plan, really.
I get it.
I understand it.
It's just frustrating.
I kind of feel bad for the show creators, actually, because you know,
they wanted so badly
for, you know, to develop these
new young characters, because they spent
a considerable amount of time trying to do that.
Yeah, they did. All the flashbacks.
Like, that's, literally, that is what you're
supposed to do to develop the characters.
And we've called out of not doing it well in the past.
So they put effort
into it. They just all
suck. Or most of them just suck.
Plot line just all sucked.
But now we have, I mean, we have,
you know, we have,
uh, uh,
We have the three stooges out there, right?
Percy and Silas and Elton.
And then we had, I did appreciate Percy calling him Corderoy and Rocket Man during a couple of seasons.
Because of Elton.
Yeah.
That one was good.
And then we have Huck and Iris out there.
And they've met up with Will, the boyfriend, who's on the rock.
from Sierra.
You mean Felix and Iris.
See, I want to just stop for a moment and just take a side note, all right?
I don't like her being named Huck.
It's a wrong name for her.
I don't like it.
Let's call her by your rule name, Jennifer.
I don't like it.
It confuses me.
The Felix should be Huck.
Felix should be Huck, because now he's like the Robin Hood.
He's with Will.
He showed up in the woods.
They're like Robin Hood out there against CRM.
what he is.
I'm so happy,
Robert Hood has showed up.
I don't like the hug character at all.
I mean,
just at all.
I talked about this last time,
but just the way that she
portrays that character.
And again,
I don't know if she was overacting
because she just sucks,
or if she was doing that
because the show that she's not
who she says she is.
I think we gave her credit
for showing
showing who she's not really
last week
as we ended up giving her credit for that
but I have a feeling that that's too much credit for her.
Last night
made me think that I think we gave her too much credit
on the old acting ability.
But, you know, it's possible.
Oh, I'll give you one thing I actually really did.
Like one thing I truly enjoyed this episode
was the fight scene in the house.
Yeah, the house burning and the fight scene.
It was, you know, it was okay.
But again, that was toward the end of two hours of already going,
oh, boy, here we go.
So you're already, you know, you're already hanging your head low, just a tad.
And it's all, we'll see, we'll see what happens.
I know, Jeremy, I'll give you another message from Jeremy as the show,
continued through the
two hours.
First,
Percy's voice is begging to die.
Almost as much as I'm begging for this episode
to have sort of relevance.
And then we go to the
barbed wire walkers.
Oh, no, this was Alton
and Percy with the walkers coming up.
Oh, the good old rap to
walkers in a fishing line tree.
That was actually good.
I call it the Empire Strikes Back move.
Right.
That's good.
It's a good move.
You can't deny it works.
And then we get to the training of Felix and Iris with the truck.
And are you effing kidding?
This is Jeremy now, not me.
Don't hold me to this.
Are you effing kidding me?
I can't even teach my wife to drive a stick, much less with only 17 minutes.
to go.
And quote.
And then he said,
my wife just hollered.
You can't even teach me to do that without something breaking.
And I,
you know,
it's just stupid funny.
It was just a,
you know,
the cute little,
hey,
you can drive a stick too.
See.
And I will say that,
uh,
I know for a fact that I could never teach my wife to drive a stick.
I in fact have attempted that move.
That's as funny that most of us,
I guess.
like I guess my generation
might have been the last one that
probably learned on a stick
that you can't even find
stick shifts anymore.
Like my kids have no clue.
No clue.
No way.
I mean, I don't even know how to drive,
so we're good.
I've never learned on either one.
Actually, you do know how to drive.
You just don't drive.
So, I mean, there's a difference.
But anyway, so we're coming up.
We've got Walking Dead on
February 28th,
when we'll be back here on talking Walking Dead,
which I and hopefully fear comes back then
really looking forward to it
I mean the promos make it
look good right
and we're going to have some Lucille flashbacks
and it looks like these six episodes
could be well worth
the weight fingers crossed
I hope they're longer
because just six it's like
I'm just getting into it at that point
so I hope that I don't know I assume
they're just going to be regular what
50 minute episodes or whatever
of content
I don't know.
Kirkman hasn't called me.
I keep, I leave him messages.
Well, we know he watches the show or listens to this podcast.
So, um, yeah.
So dude, I text you, uh, you know, text me back.
Bro, what are you doing?
Yeah, the thing with that too is, uh, I think they're going to end it on a high note because the,
now the true season finale of season 10 is here's an Egan.
So.
Right.
So.
And then you have those six episodes, and then we go into the final season that isn't really the final season, right?
You go into 11, and the first half of 11 has, I don't know, 100 episodes, and then the second half of 11 has another 100 episodes, and then we'll have the grand finale of the ending of the Walking Dead, right?
Seriously, there's like, what, 24 episodes left?
30 episodes?
23.
almost 30 episodes left.
Wow.
I mean, they could do some damage at 30 episodes.
I'm really curious how they're going to
where the CRM fits in with this other group.
I think the CRM and Commonwealth are like totally separated.
I don't even know if they know about each other.
See, that would be really weird if they don't know.
I think they have to know about each other, right?
That advanced, yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, they might be separate entities, which is why they need the soldiers and they have to keep people in line.
But I feel like they have to know about each other, right?
They would have this one group, the Walking Dead main group, they've now run into both of them.
And those two don't know who the other is.
Right. And we've run, and our one group has run into, what, three other big rulers that have,
four other big rulers that have come to fall, or five, right?
We had the governor.
We had,
uh,
uh,
terminus.
Oh,
I forgot about terminus.
We had the,
the whisperers.
We had,
uh,
Alexandria,
right?
We had,
uh,
Negan.
So there's five.
Alexandria hasn't really fallen, though,
but,
no,
but it was a large group,
right?
So these large and and and
Hilltopper into the ground
But
Yeah I mean there's some pretty strong groups
And that's what threw me too
Because our new group of world beyond
Is traveling from Nebraska to New York
And they didn't run into any groups
Hmm
It's just kind of felt weird
That's where they were at Nebraska
Started out, yeah
Dang
I didn't realize
Yeah because then they had to get to the Mississippi
River, which they crossed, right? That was the big river that they crossed at the smallest
point or whatever. And then they continued their track going to New York.
And then they ran to Percy with the truck. On the other side of the river, on the, you know,
on the eastern side of the Mississippi. So CRM is massive. Yeah. And they're everywhere.
I mean, because we've seen them in fear, so Texas.
We've seen them in Walking Dead, Virginia, and here.
Which is New York, the East Coast.
And then they said something in this world beyond about the West Coast, too, right?
Oregon.
There was something in Oregon, I thought.
I think so, yeah.
So you're talking about the continent.
That's crazy.
Or at least the United States, if not North America.
That's crazy.
I know.
And remember, these guys aren't in the comics,
the biggest group we've ever seen in the comics is the Commonwealth.
So who the heck did Michone link up with during the last episode?
I don't know.
That's a whole other.
So that's the boat people, right?
What boat people?
That's what she hooked up with, right?
No, she hooked up with like, remember, she left on the boat,
but then we found, then she was doing the whole her walker thing again.
She saved two people.
Oh, that's right.
You have those like groups of like
Squared off what looked like
Pootoons just marching.
Yeah.
Oh yeah.
Right.
Right.
God, they're like so much.
Right.
Well, right. Well, hopefully they'll find a ruler
that could bring it all together.
And that'll be Rick rides.
Rick.
I've said this before.
My theory is all the shows
are again, like once walking dead ends
and then we have fear.
like maybe end, I'm not sure, and of course
World Beyond's ending next season,
once all of them kind of end,
all of them will connect up
and then it will kind of be a cliffhanger ending for each show,
and then they will lead into the three Rick movies,
and then the final Rick movie is the end of the Walking Dead.
Okay.
That's a long time to wait.
You aren't lying it is.
That's a long time to keep that universe alive.
That's a lot time to keep it a lot.
Just with actors and stuff, that's not...
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, because while you and I, of course, are not aging,
a lot of these actors aren't going to be spring chickens in 10 years.
They're not going to be out there wanting to bust heads with walkers.
Yeah.
I mean, that's a long time.
I think the longest it would be would be six.
That's still a long time.
All right, so talking walking dead, thank you so much for coming along for the ride.
Any last thoughts, Mr. Butchrell?
About World Beyond?
I don't know.
I mean, gosh, it seems like everything that we want to see will end up probably seeing next season, which is more CRM stuff.
We didn't hardly get much at all a little bit, but I'm just generally, it was just, this season,
was exactly what I expected it to be.
You know,
teen soap opera pretty much with
just a little bit to wet your appetite.
I know.
I was hoping for less of the teen soap opera,
but that's definitely what it was.
Yeah.
Maximus.
Yeah, it was okay at best.
There were some good points in this show,
but the show is in itself not the greatest.
Hopefully we get better next season.
But the finale was,
in my opinion.
Yeah, I mean, we created the
Robin Hood, but the love story
stays alive.
That's so good.
Agonizing.
So be sure to subscribe
to Chewing the Fat so you know when
the new shows are out and available.
And I will update you on that podcast
as well. Thank you so much for
listening to Talking Walking Dead.
We'll see you in February.
