Season 7, episode 1, titled The Beacon.
This is Talking Walking Dead Fear the Walking Dead edition.
Welcome.
Welcome to it.
Talking Walking Dead Fear Edition with a little world beyond thrown in.
With myself, Jeff Fisher, Jason Butchrell, and Maximus Fisher, Fear IMDB description,
while most of the landscape is destroyed by nuclear warheads.
Strand thrives in one of the few.
inhabitable places left. Strand's search for survivors uncovers a stranger with an unexpected
connection to his past. Okay. So I have some issues with the show, but overall, I enjoyed it,
I guess. You know, it was okay, but there's definite issues throughout the whole thing.
Yeah. So Mr. Buttrill, I'll let you begin. Well, I love that this is the imagery I was
expecting when we've said last season that we wanted the nukes to go off.
And I think they delivered there.
Like the, I like the post-apocalyptic nuclear fallout, like, scene.
I thought that everything looked cool, shot really cool, the way they did everything.
I thought was really dope.
I was kind of, like, confused on who this dude was and why they were spending so much time with
them in the beginning.
Right.
And I was like, okay, okay.
Right.
That was the point.
But, uh, I, uh, yeah, I think my biggest issue.
was Strand.
By far,
like,
we all wanted to see Strand
as the villain.
But it was cartoony evil guy,
right?
It was like,
you don't go full psycho.
You never go full psycho.
Unless you're willing to go,
like,
Heath Ledger,
Joker.
Like,
if they're willing to do that,
then I say,
keep on going and turn it up a couple notches.
But as it is now,
it's like,
the way he was saying things.
You know,
he was like,
like Jabba laugh
Jabba the Hutlap.
I was like, what are you doing?
This is just weird.
So he didn't go,
he didn't go far enough
cartoony for you.
Well, no, no, I guess I'm being a little bit,
I don't know, I'm just making fun of it.
I think, I just think that
I don't see them going that far
like Heath Ledger Joker.
Right, right, right.
But they went just up to the point of that
to where he looks at a cartoon evil guy.
Yeah, they just came off kind of, I don't know.
They sure did. Maximus.
I kind of agree with you.
I wasn't expecting full-blown cartoony, like, even though I preferred a more eccentric,
where he's all dressed up in the history garb that has the sword.
I loved the sword.
I loved the sword.
But that hat and coat?
Like, I don't know.
That was awesome.
This reminded me, though, of, there's a reason this.
episode kind of I liked it more than others of fear especially and anybody who's listening who is a
gamer and has played the games fallout but yeah those games felt like this episode those episode
felt like that those games that's a good comparison these cartoony villains like there's this one
character I'm not kidding you his name's john he's in boston he's a drug addict and then he sees
the coat, the coat and hat
of John Hancock and takes
the name John Hancock so he
can run a town as a drug den.
There you go. There's got to be where they pulled it from and that's a really good
Yeah.
It's a good call. I love the new
dead radiation walkers.
Yeah. You know, I did, it
was interesting like they gave us
the first
my gosh, 10 minutes
of the show with a character
we hadn't seen. We
don't know with no real dialogue, although we obviously, you know, you know what's going on.
It's the day-to-day survival after, you know, after the nuke.
And that was, you know, they'd have the scavenging, the countryside and the frustration in it.
It was, you know, that was, it was okay.
I liked it.
And they gave us this entire character.
And I know, you know, we're jumping ahead, but now that character is no more.
Yeah.
I mean, it was a lot of time to spend building up a guy to the end.
I think that was the point of it.
The guy was kind of stupid.
Well, I thought for sure.
I mean, I was sitting watching it going, okay, we just put sword, cut his head off right now with the sword.
Right, right.
That's what I really wanted.
I mean, I appreciated the end and I know we're jumping ahead of the end, but I appreciate the, you know, throwing off the building.
I loved it.
But at the same time, I'm telling Strand in my house, use your sword, cut his head off right now, just end this.
I know some people are just too stupid for, I mean, like in the beginning when he was first brought into Strand's little community, he's like, he's given all this stuff.
And then when they're on top of the roof, he's all getting his little, you know, introduction getting shown around.
And he's like contradicting Strand and like saying stupid things.
And I'm like, do you want to get kicked out?
Right.
And then he gets let in at the end.
And again, he starts doing the same thing.
He starts contradicting it.
I mean, if we find out,
and we find out that he knew who Strand was and he still was doing this?
Yeah.
I mean, if that was the whole point of him being found and getting there,
then why not do what you have to do to be on the end?
Yeah.
It doesn't make any sense.
Worst spy ever.
Come on.
I do, I did love the, you know, a Victor's building, you know, with apparently full power.
The elevators working fine.
People weren't taking stairs.
Well, they had like three solar panels in the top.
Oh, that's right.
That's right.
Gosh darn it.
And they were.
I actually counted about six.
Of course you did.
Well, yeah.
Of course you counted them.
They were cleaning them off.
Just for you guys.
So it's fine.
I love how Howard is basically strand second in command.
Yeah.
And he's kind of embracing that evil sidekick, too.
You got the cartoon evil guy and the cartoon evil sidekick.
It's great.
I didn't understand.
I mean, when they were a question,
I got three questions for you,
and we ended up with about 20.
And then we got,
he was asking him questions,
And then as he was eating a spaghetti, he asked a question and the sidekick goes, he's the one asking the question.
Okay.
All right, sidekick.
Back up a little bit.
And then he mentioned he was a senator's aide.
Yeah, yeah, Will.
I mean, I enjoyed, I thought it would have been okay to keep him around at least for an episode or two, right?
I mean, he was worthy of that.
Well, my, yeah, one of my favorite lines that he, of course, you know, you have the evil guys, right?
and so they're obviously bad
and they want us to know that they're bad
and then this little aid guy is the good guy
and when he was like
so who which senator? Oh, Senator, so and so.
And then the evil side kit goes, Democrat.
Come on!
There are no, I mean,
give me a break.
There are no parties anymore.
There's a long time.
That was a long time ago.
Just come out and say it. Yes, we're, you know,
Republicans. We all love Trump and all that stuff.
And we're the evil bad guys.
That's right.
I didn't catch that from that.
I didn't catch that from that.
But, okay, I guess you saw it differently.
Oh, I catch that stuff in everything because everywhere in everything.
It is.
It does see into everything, no question.
I will say that one thing that we learned that I didn't know.
And this is something that makes me want to invest in horses is that they can survive.
They can survive.
They don't need masks.
Nuk rain.
They can survive at all.
Humans can't.
Humans need to put on masks and raincoats and get underneath buildings, but horses survive, man.
That is awesome.
I am an equestrian scientist and I know about their fur coats that are resilient to
in BC activity.
Also, their snouts filter it out.
You don't know this stuff.
No, I do.
That's what I'm saying.
I just noticed it.
You were probably in Granada when they were.
were when they were doing the PSAs on that.
I will say that that is a fact, Jason.
When we saved the Western Hemisphere from communism,
we weren't riding horses.
So it's okay.
Well, this is just a headline from something I just looked up.
Wild horses thrive in Chernobyl's radiation zone.
There you go.
There you go.
You'd rather ride horses than hogs.
So it's okay.
There's all kinds of animals thriving in Chernobyl, so it's all good.
I did find it interesting, too, that, you know, the whole ride into going to find Alicia.
You know, the world loves Alicia.
And she hasn't been in.
I mean, we've seen her face in a cell a couple of times in the last two or three episodes, right?
I mean, she doesn't even really weird.
She wasn't in a shell.
The last time we saw her was behind the door, Teddy locked her in the bunker.
That's what I said, the cell.
It's not a cell.
it's a giant bunker. We saw inside the bunker
finally. That was a cell.
They had her in a cell.
They had her in a cell at the bunker.
Anywhere you're, anything you're locked into
and can't get out. I think we can classify that as a cell.
At the cell. Even if it's
the size of a freaking
like a freaking hotel.
No, she was not in the whole thing.
Yes, she was.
I don't think so.
In the beginning, in the beginning they locked her.
she was in that room
of that first room
which led to the bunker
no no it did not
that first room
regardless she was locked in
yes she was locked in
because she he
I understand what you're saying
bro
but I just
but I am just saying
that first
that first time that she was locked
in that was not the
entrance to the entire bunker.
Yes, it was. There was a door
and then there was another door.
Okay. Okay.
Who cares? She was locked in.
I tell you what I do.
And then we get into the searchlight business
and the haunting business. There was some nice deaths
and you're right, the sword with strands of some great shots of
strand killing some walkers and people with the sword.
Some great shots. It was awesome.
Lighthouse. Yeah. And I don't, I don't,
not quite sure the searchlight and the, I love the walker slaves pulling the searchlight.
That was awesome.
Yeah.
That was good thinking there on their part of that.
And I thought for sure that, I mean, why not use them for the power?
Just let the walkers walk around in circles chasing a, you know, a piece of meat hung on a rope.
So they create power for the building.
I mean, I'm good with that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We've seen that in the walking dead.
Yeah.
The oil place.
Or was it the, no.
That was fair.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, but they're used to using them for slaves, no problem.
And so, you know, that was, that was nice, that was good.
I will say that I found it, we know that there's another group of people out there, right, the scavengers or whatever.
The stalkers.
That's what we'll call them.
Out there raping walkers, doing whatever they are.
Like, why are they stripping walkers?
I don't, I don't know.
than that's what they were doing.
I mean, you tell me what they were doing, Jason.
You tell me. I don't know.
Weird delivering stuff going on out there in the wasteland.
Right.
Just go with it.
Just go with it.
I find it interesting that we've got these people.
I mean, is there, are we to believe that someone,
these people just didn't decide, you know, well, we survived.
Maybe we should move.
I don't understand sticking around.
I was thinking the same thing.
I was like,
why just go outside the contaminated zone?
Hello?
Maybe we just keep heads.
I don't know,
West.
Can I also explain,
remember,
there were 10 nukes
that landed all over Texas
from Galveston probably to Dallas.
Takes a while.
Texas is big.
Yeah, but they're not moving.
I mean,
they're not even trying.
I mean,
they're just like,
we got walkers to rape and,
who,
Woo-hoo!
Right.
I mean, Will is ready to kill himself over eating a nuked possum.
Right?
I mean, he's feeling mad.
He's so hungry.
He's going to cook a possum.
But then he decides that he can't.
He was ready to kill himself.
Let the walkers kill him until Strand's people save him.
I thought he was going to die in the beginning.
I thought he was just going to follow this one guy in the beginning.
See how bad life is.
And then he's going to die.
Yeah.
I thought that's how it was going to be.
Instead, he got thrown off a building.
but yeah i'm okay with that
i'm okay with that
so so we know he probably had
a relationship we know he had a type of relationship
with alicia
when we and then we went into the bunker
and then we saw the painting on the wall
what did he say they got kicked him out or did he not say
i don't remember he didn't say what got him kicked out he just
he did not and that that's the whole thing that he we don't know why he
kicked out what the fight was with Alicia we do know that she still left him a little note right so
I mean he it's surprising that he got kicked out been trying to find a way back to Alicia this whole
time but she still leaves him a note yeah I was I mean they're kind of hinting that there was
some bunker business going going on down there definitely which I vote that's one of the biggest
mysteries on fear you have somebody as hot as Alicia is and she's only been in like what one
relationship and this entire show, that's just not realistic in my worldview.
And your worldview, yes.
Your worldview is very different.
I wouldn't let that stand if I was in this world.
I would not let that go.
I wouldn't let that go down.
I mean, there's a lack of choices, right?
So, I mean, you're going to have to take something.
I mean, it's better than the scavengers out there raping war.
They are a lot of them.
You can't call them the scavengers.
The scavengers are trash people.
Oh, yeah.
Who are these people?
The stalkers.
Stockers.
Yeah.
Stalkers.
I apologize to the scavengers for.
And we don't know what Padre is, right?
The note, of course, is this.
Padre.
And we're like, what?
We don't know if it's a person.
We don't know if it's a place.
We don't know.
We don't know what it is.
And it's just,
it's kind of strange.
And I did,
I appreciate,
I'm glad Strand did eliminate him,
because at the end,
it was nice to finally,
because again,
I was sitting there going,
just get rid of this guy.
And I didn't think they would.
Honestly,
I thought,
oh,
this guy's here around.
We're going to have to,
this is going to be annoying.
But no,
Strand delivered him to the walkers,
fed him to the walkers off the roof.
I loved it.
It was great.
Yeah.
And he was kind of,
it was looking like,
you know,
he was ultra crazy guy in the beginning
and it looked like they were starting
to make him back to
maybe normal Strand. Yeah.
And you know what? He realized
that. Strand realized he was going back down the path.
He remembered and he was like, I don't want this.
I need to get rid of you.
Yeah. That's possible.
I mean, I love that. I love that thought. Well, he said
as much, I think. Yeah. Something about trusting
its instincts. I knew that guy was so dead
right when he started talking about trusting his instincts.
I was like, I was like, oh,
No.
He is so dead.
You have to act on your instincts, not what you think of know about.
Yeah.
Goodbye.
I have a nice day.
Will,
nice knowing you.
Take care.
And I find it interesting, too, that this will.
And this is another example of why he needed to die.
So he's in the nuke world living out of a tinfoil van that apparently is, you know, worthy.
You're safe in.
And the scavengers.
didn't ever check the van
to see if anything was in it
when they were out raping and pillaging
and so he survived
but he knew that there was a lighthouse
that he didn't live in
that he didn't go and live in
I don't understand
it was why wouldn't you go live there?
I don't know
I'm just asking questions
yeah
it's best not to ask
intelligent questions in this show
just be like the stalkers
just go with it
just ride with it
Yeah, okay, that's fine.
It was awesome.
That was a smart move.
That was a smart move.
I'll tell you that.
Living in a van by the river.
Surprisingly, no Morgan this episode.
That'll be next episode.
Yeah, it will be all Morgan and what's her face next episode.
It looks like we've got, it looks like this is their new plan for the dead world is eight episodes each, each season or each half a season or whatever.
because I look here on Fear and there's eight episodes
and the next episode and the last episode
is directed and written by the same people that did this episode
so it's going to have the same feel
and so the final we're going to have to wait I mean the final episode
is titled Padre so I guess I guess we'll find out hopefully
at the end of by the end of eight
maybe that's when Alicia shows up.
I don't know.
I don't know what's up with her.
We don't want to pay her.
Is she preggers and having a kid?
I haven't looked to see if she is.
But I don't know.
Or maybe.
In real life, I don't know.
Or maybe.
Because Padre is Spanish for father.
So maybe Will is the father.
Big brain stuff going down.
Maybe she's pregnant on the show.
Yeah.
She was calling him daddy.
And there's...
Dual connotations there.
So sorry to tell you, but Padre is dead.
However, it was said on the show that comes on after the, on after World Beyond,
there will be a flashback scene where we're in the bunker before everything gets abandoned.
Business time.
That's right.
Yeah, maybe that's when we get it.
Yeah.
No doubt.
I'll watch that one.
I think that is episode number four or five,
business in the bunker.
Which one is that?
No, that's not there.
When the bunker is a rocking,
don't come a knocking.
Somebody should have told the sub that.
The sub was not listening.
So,
anyway,
I'm looking forward to,
you know,
I really do.
I kind of enjoy this,
you know,
after nuke world,
you know,
the whole,
the,
the filming of it and the scenes and trying to survive and everything,
but it really does make me question the idea of,
let's move.
Oh, there's got to be some place to go.
I mean, even then, I mean, I know that Texas is big.
I got it.
But they've been,
they've traveled from the west coast.
Right.
Well, we started off on an island off the coast of the United States and now we're back.
I mean, keep going.
But this is fear.
They've never understood that Texas is a big place.
Remember, you can walk in a random direction, just find whoever you're looking for.
That's true.
Or go out of the state in like 30 minutes.
They have a dog that can smell anything.
Yeah, across state.
By the way, even I found this out, which is really interesting.
We're catching up, at least somewhat.
Is the timeline?
Yeah, because in the next, in the preview for next episode, I think you
see Strand say that like like right day 68 or 69 or whatever on the on the board and there is a
timeline that's being kept up on days i think day 1,207 is when rick gets taken by the helicopter
someone did the math going okay if day 68 or nine is what strand wrote that day is
day 1,201.
That means we're six days, if we're there, we're six days away in the timeline from when Rick gets
taken by the copter in fear time.
Sure.
I'm already lost, so it doesn't matter.
I'm with you, Max, 100%.
It's day, day zero to 1,024.
Basically, okay.
I'll simplify it for you then.
We're about a week away from Rick getting taken by the helicopter in fear time.
Okay.
Because if you watch World Beyond, right, the timeline in World Beyond.
It's like way ahead.
Well, in World Beyond, the nuke would have, the nukes have already gone off in Texas, right?
Yeah, like apparently years before.
So.
Right.
Right.
So, I mean, we've got some catching up to do because this is the end of the last, the final, the final season of World Beyond.
and we've got we better we haven't seen trash we haven't seen garbage lady which we know we were
teased i know we teased her we haven't seen her um maybe we'll see her as we step further into the
you know into the school and the studies of what's out there um they're all going to get back together
a world beyond it looks like you know they all broke up and got broken up and now they're all coming back
together again.
We'll see what happens up against CRM after they all get back together again.
And of course, the, what's your face, Huck's.
Jennifer Huck, whatever.
Boyfriend is the guy that's in charge of the burn unit, right, that my serial killer guy
is at.
So it's kind of, I mean, they're all coming together.
Yeah, it's all coming together on World Beyond, which is kind of fascinating.
The most fascinating or interesting thing on World Beyond to me is nothing in the show.
But I was curious about the nationality of Huck.
And so I paused last night's episode because I couldn't think it.
And I was talking to one of my kids.
She looked Latin.
She looks like Portuguese or something.
That's what we thought, yeah, that's what we thought too.
But she is an Afghan actress.
That's what I said from Africa.
That's what I said.
It's something you said.
She's an Afghan actress of Russian and Indian descent.
Oh, wow.
Interesting.
That's very interesting.
Like I said, Portuguese.
I'm glad we got Elton this episode.
I like Elton.
I'm never going to deny it.
I do, too.
And we found out exactly how he stays alive,
industrial corduroy.
He knew that already.
I have a fan of industrial corduroy, man.
It worked.
I love how the girl was about to cut his hand off,
because that's what you do.
And he was like, no, I'm not fit.
Look.
She was ready to kill him.
the other guy bit she was ready to kill him
they weren't they realized who they were no they weren't they just
we found out later they were just messing with them yeah that whole
chase scene was weird I mean it was kind of nice this I mean it was
cute to see the little Walker
graveyard with the flowers and all of that
it was kind of cute but the whole chase scene about the food
and everything was just a waste to me why even do that
if they knew who they were, why
why go through that?
They said they were just going to bring them in,
but then as soon as first you started to say,
they wanted to have fun with them.
Yeah,
we wanted to have a little fun,
but.
Just a waste is pretty much
the summation of the entire show.
However,
this was really interesting.
I didn't catch on with this in the first time,
but after I was watching the show that comes on after,
I can't remember his name,
but the teacher when Hope was in class.
Yeah.
What about?
it because it was fascinating that he was saying that she was right and tell your dad what she did
about the yeast the teacher i can't remember his name right now unfortunately but it's a name
you might recognize because we've seen his books before in this show oh really remember eugene
saying he worked for a professor and he took it from the name of he took the name from a book
that was the professor
that was him that's funny
so the time I have
the universe comes together
even more on world beyond
all right final thoughts
of the season one
uh season actually season seven episode one
of fear and season two
episode three of world beyond
Mr. Butcham
uh
yeah
I I like it more as an
anthology I don't really care
for some reason it's hard for
me to like really care about the plot they got going on in fear um but i like it as an anthology
it was funny walking dead tweeted last week i think or somebody did that they had confirmed
that there was a new show that's going to be an anthology series yes well we had talked about that
all right that originally was announced and we talked about it here on this show because
we had originally talked about it on this show before they announced it yeah right you're welcome
you're welcome again
but it was funny
I tweeted back at him
and said don't you already
isn't that already called
Fear the Walking Dead
and it was hilarious
I had like a ton of people
like LOLing and saying right to that
like everybody pretty much agrees
a lot of people agree
but that's what I mean
that's all I'm expecting out of fear
but that's fine
I don't have huge expectations
I just want to see Morgan Moore
they didn't show him at all
which pissed me off
but uh
the imagery was fine
it's fine
little goofy thing
But I mean, it's enjoyable enough for me to watch.
I hope they don't make Morgan into the preview I saw where they're driving or whatever.
And, you know, he's with the grace who seemed to be losing her mind a little.
I hope they don't make him into some freak again.
I want him just Morgan instead of some freak thing.
And so if that, if she starts to drag Morgan into freak land, he needs to just kill her.
Yeah, get rid of her.
Sorry, I did me.
I love you, but knife in the head.
Brett.
You mean axe.
He still has it.
He still has the axe.
Whatever weapon he wants to use.
It just ended.
Maximus.
I thought the fear episode,
because it personally reminded me of one of my favorite video game series,
I liked it a little more than you guys.
But on an objective letoval,
I get what you mean by it seems strands going a little down the,
I'm a bad guy route.
It's a good call of the video game, though.
It is, yeah.
You might be exactly right.
I think you absolutely are.
Oh, yeah, because something else in the video game, too.
There's this group of people living in a subway that steal blood from another group living on top of an old highway, and they drink the blood.
And they're called them and they're basically called vampires.
But they're not actually vampires.
And they realize that.
They just like the taste of blood.
So they steal blood from this group of people living on.
the highway and you can you can resolve it by basically making it okay the vampires will protect
you you just have to give them blood bags i'm not kidding i mean that's what the that's what the
scavengers are doing that's why they're raping the walkers it's exactly what they're doing
instead of taking their blood they're raped yeah they're rape i mean people think they're rapists
but they're not they're just doing walkers but yeah so i i wouldn't be surprised if the writers of
this new episode.
We're like, hey,
there's that one video game series
called Fallout where Nuke's dropped.
You'll never get them to admit that, though,
because Paul Out will be wanting
some extra cash from the old
AMC Bank.
What's funny is, like, um,
I totally think you're right.
What I was thinking, like, when I was first
watching Strand, I thought they got their motivation
from South Park, because there's an episode in South
Park where Cartman dresses up like an old
Confederate Civil War soldier,
and he talks the same way, you know, like that.
That's off the same kind of thing, yeah.
Regardless, it's cartoony or video gamey.
Right.
It's just stupid.
Right.
And then World Beyond, I thought it was okay.
This episode was eh?
But the ending, I'm kind of excited for next episode
because we actually have Hope and Huck coming into the town.
And I'm excited to see what they do about that.
Oh, this is a plus for you, Dad.
We didn't get much Iris this episode.
I know, thank God.
She's agonizing.
We got her like twice.
And it would be a real shame if once they got back together, we lost her.
Now, we just have to be sad about that, wouldn't we?
I wonder, I was, I'm fascinated to know what scene made you think, uh, what nationality
Huck was.
Because there was a, a little Huck business scene.
And I've, I've almost bet some money that that was the scene, Mr. Butchrell.
Oh, where I paused it?
Wait, what?
I mean,
crap, I did say that.
