Season 7, episode 12, titled Sunny Boy.
Not too bad.
Talking Walking Dead, that's what this is,
Fear of the Walking Dead edition.
Welcome to it.
Myself, Jeff Fisher, Jason Butchrell, and Maximus Fisher,
the IMDB description when Baby Mo goes missing inside the tower,
Dory Sr. finds himself in a unique position
to prove his worth to an increasingly paranoid strand.
And I overall, I mean, I enjoyed the episode a lot.
There were, you know, a number of bits and pieces in there that I felt were, you know, we're going to be able to pick apart.
But overall, I enjoyed the heck out of this episode.
I go into these with a process.
That process is let's go in hating it and assuming we're going to talk the next morning about how much I hated it.
And that served me well.
I don't get disappointed.
Last time I did that, and I was insanely surprised.
Right.
Yeah.
Damn good episode.
It was good.
There was one agonizing part.
One for me.
The rest was good.
I honestly.
I can take a guess.
Actually, two.
There were two agonizing parts.
Okay.
Because go ahead, Max.
I thought it was a good episode, especially with what we recently got.
Like, the last episode we got before this one wasn't bad.
It just wasn't great.
The one before that one, yeah.
Horrible.
But.
We're on that uphill swing.
We are.
Yeah. This is two in a row.
But yeah, the two in a row, one being pretty good and this one being good.
Yeah.
The two scenes.
All right.
So, you know, as we start out, we get, you know, strand cleaning house and, you know, Howard throwing people off the top of the top.
That was a fun scene.
It was awesome.
It was awesome.
Yeah, a great scene.
No, we didn't have, it was not me off the off.
We're not listening.
You're throwing off.
I have a nice day.
Which is why there were.
The one scene really annoyed me.
And I mean, I know why it happened when we didn't kill Strand when he had the point.
You know, I know why it happened, but it's very frustrating to me because that's your time.
The coup was then.
Take it over.
All through the episode and the other episodes is we got to get rid of Strand.
There you go.
Right.
And you pistol whip.
What?
Right.
What?
And it cost him his life.
Yeah, you didn't have to do this amazingly brave thing of walking through Walker.
So I got to do a shoot him and he didn't have to do that anymore.
It's over.
You're now in charge.
I don't think that's how it works at the tower, though.
Oh, no, no, no.
But you're in charge then.
Victor is dead and I'm in charge.
And for now, we're going to stick with what we have.
But there's going to be some new rules in place and I'm in charge.
Yeah.
Absolutely.
100%.
That should have happened.
And I'm taking a guess your other one that was somewhat agonizing to you, Jason, was the basement scene.
Yes.
Oh.
Yep, I'm not surprised.
With his whole like, no, I want to do it this way.
And I'm going to, you know, I'm still trying to woo him.
Shut up.
It was done.
She had the plan.
It was done.
And then he stopped her.
I'm like,
Oh.
Wow.
You agreed with June.
something. Yeah. I still don't like you, but... I know. And at one point, there was two, I mean, he had an
opportunity to get rid of June and he had an opportunity to get rid of Strand and didn't do it.
Okay. One, he's not going to kill his daughter-in-law, dad. I'm sorry. He's not going to kill his daughter-in-law.
I'm sorry. You know what? I don't want to have to kill you, but that's just the way it goes.
And he's not going to kill his daughter-in-law. But it seemed like he would be, he would actually
consider it at that moment. Yeah, because at that point, he knew he hadn't killed Strand.
right so he's got to still make up his uh he's got to make up his mind how he saves himself by finding
the baby right and by finding the baby and june being dead it's all on her yeah have a nice day yep
found the baby was june throw Howard off the top talk to you later i'm in charge you know i'm still
your man because he'd already passed up his point to take it over by not strand and the whole fight
that little basement scene
I'm like this is the one
time in the entire
every single show every single episode of the
Walking Dead that nobody has a pocket knife on them
right
like right you could
I mean you had them there I mean just
get them right in the head
get that one in the head
there was only like six or something like
why were they like
oh we had the one gun that we had
the entire facility fell into the
water but no problem
a little bit later I'm going to reach my hand down
and pull it out perfectly
Like, I know exactly
June has your, you know, runaway kit
with the baby all ready to go, but no knife.
Yeah, I know.
Yeah.
Stop.
You went down there with no weapons to sneak out through these walkers.
I mean, what?
Exactly.
None of that made sense to me, but whatever.
We're nitpicking.
We are nitpicking.
You know, the whole, the little, you know,
the argument behind the gate as the walkers,
it did seem.
I will say, I know it wasn't all true,
but it didn't seem like whenever they were, you know,
they were behind the gate in their little hidey hole there,
that as they were talking,
the walkers took a break.
Oh,
you guys are talking?
All right.
Welcome if you got them,
boys.
They're talking.
We'll let them talk for a little while before we start attacking.
That's fine.
But yeah,
what's really interesting of,
you know,
Strand cracking down on walkie-talkies,
you have one off,
off the roof.
Yeah, that was great.
And I was really surprised that, you know,
I know that we find out in the episode that
John set up Howard to have a walkie so that he would get his in with Strand.
Okay, great.
Again, then it goes back to now, then you had your shot.
Strand was, had his guard down,
he had a drink with him,
and now's the time.
Now's the time to take him out.
Nope, we're not going.
Okay.
Yeah, there's, there were, there was, yeah, there was a lot, there was plot to us in this episode.
There was like, again, meaningful characters dying, which is amazing to see.
Two.
Not just on this show, but all the shows.
We had Howard, we had Howard dying, which was shocking.
So sad.
Especially the way he died.
I know you were happy with it.
I know you weren't the biggest fan of Howard James.
Oh, I can't stand him.
Why didn't you like Howard?
Because he's the typical guy that, like, acts tough.
only when there's somebody he can stand behind, right?
He thought he was a weasel, but no.
He's straight, oh, he's straight up a weasel.
Yeah, Howard's straight up a weasel.
And he's only as strong as whoever he can hide behind.
He's the ultimate, ultimate weasel.
And we find out that he is even more a weasel with his story about how he forged the document to become famous.
Right.
Oh, yeah.
And, you know, then it was found out.
So then he found out that he was a weasel and a liar.
and that's when it all fell apart.
But then the end of the world came.
So now he gets to pretend like that didn't happen.
It's just kind of a story.
I was happy to see him go,
although I was surprised that he ended up dying.
I was just kind of surprised.
I thought maybe Strand would keep him around
and let him hang from a rope off the side of the building
just to throw of scraps every now and then.
That's why it was good, because yeah, it was surprising.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, I mean, we killed, we threw two or three people off the roof that, you know, obviously, you know, side characters, nobody even knows.
And were you in the way?
Yes, I was in Fear of the Walking Dead for three seconds.
They threw me off the building.
Yeah, the roof.
And we got to see Howard as the walker when Dory is walking through the walkers, which was nice to see.
Yeah.
And I was surprised, too, that they didn't do as, what's his name, handicapped boy?
Oh, uh, acrip.
what's his name
the truck driver
the handicapper
Wendell,
Wendell, thank you
yeah Wendell
okay so
hey I'm still amazed
he's still alive
no why are we
letting him
because he's an engineer
I don't care
and why is he attending meetings
like what do you bring to this meeting
you're not going to do anything but sit there
oh my gosh
how dare you
anyway
so he's down there
he's right though
when they're getting ready
for John Dory to leave.
He's like, shouldn't we do the thing?
You know, like wipe some guts on him or something?
Oh, no, we don't have time for that.
Just nobody has a knife again.
We can't stick a walker and throw some guts on Dory.
In the time it took him to put all that crap on,
they could have killed the Walker and spread all the guts on him.
Absolutely.
100%.
No, I got to say.
Well, I guess not with a crying baby.
I guess that is.
Yeah, I guess that makes sense.
But though, I got to say this.
Rest in peace, John Dory, Sr.
We have lost another John Dory today.
And now we only have one Dory on this show by technicality, and it's June.
Right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Back to the baby.
Could we maybe not have it crying all the time?
All the time.
Although I will say, I thought the same thing.
I mean, at some point, you're like, okay, well, I mean,
somehow they've got to find a way to shut this kid up, right?
Somehow.
But I will say that, you know, and you'd think that what makes babies cry,
he didn't have that problem, right?
A empty stomach wants to eat.
Strand has been, this kid's been living like a king.
Yeah.
A strand.
Yeah.
So he's had plenty of food.
So quit your whining.
And it grew up with walkers all around them, all around her.
She's probably the most inoculated to any.
anything scary that there ever is, right?
I mean, come on.
Right.
Fair point.
And that's what we had in the Walking Dead.
I mean, we knew who was it?
Judith, right?
When Judith was a little baby?
Yeah.
How they went through the walkers.
And Judith knew shut the hell up.
And Judith was a little baby at that time.
But I think even younger than this one.
It's just strange that they all, you know, think that the baby is going to bring them
their legacy.
No, it's interesting, too.
That was actually pretty interesting
when John told Strang,
you can't take away the baby from its mother,
and then Strang's like, her mother's dead.
Yeah, it's not her mother.
I'm not taking the kid away from any mother.
No doubt about it.
And the one thing I will say,
that's what Dory Sr. told to Strand,
that made a lot of sense.
I know that the baby will never give you what you want,
and that's love.
And, you know, the harder you push, you won't have it.
I disagree.
You're going to raise that kid to have the legacy that he wants.
You know, that kid will be raised as the king, the future king, right?
So I think that that was a good move because he wants to have that legacy.
Anyway, I did enjoy the heck out of the episode.
And again, you know, there were definitely parts where, you know, I wanted.
Okay, so all we needed was Dori Sr.
Not to Die Now with his radiation poisoning and Kill Strand.
June. Why and June?
Okay, Strand or June.
Because he let Strand live.
He should have killed June. Even though
it's his daughter-in-law. I don't care.
That's over.
He saved her because she's his
daughter-in-law. She's his daughter-in-law of
convenience.
Don Doria needed a woman in his life
after the apocalypse and she was
there. Okay, great.
I think that, I'm just thinking I'm hearing
listen to you guys talk is I think what
what made me like this episode so much
it was it was constantly surprising me.
Oh, definitely.
It surprised me that he would question June
when he was interrogating everyone.
It surprised me that she just came out with it
to him and was like, yeah, I did it
and there's a secret underground here, blah, blah, blah.
I mean, I was like, it just kept surprising me.
And then the deaths surprised me.
The everything.
I was surprised like five or six times in this episode.
And I haven't felt that,
not even in the walking dead
you know the main mother show
this is definitely a surprising show
um it's a
it's a good trend i hope they keep it going
yeah no kidding and then we had uh you know at the end
when morgan gets the baby
and uh you know we know that dory's
going to serve himself up
to the walkers
um there goes all the you know
good memorabilia
out the window
uh the
soldier hat the armor
i mean you don't come
up your shoulders bro how long
you've been in the world
come on now
come on okay
and but I did I I like
that I did I did like the walk through the walkers
I don't know that I necessarily
buy it but okay we'll suspend
some reality here well they were attacking
him all the time and he did get bit
I know just
seems like it and whatever it's fine
it's fine so it's all fine and
I'll tell you I want to rip the band-aid off
you know we're not going to get
what's her face
until the end
of this season right
I mean this is episode
I forgot to say everybody
my mistake I've been saying midseason
finale no season finale
yeah the season finale is
this is 7b right
season 7b with episode 12
so we're not going to get
Madison till the end
they made this big deal about bringing her back
and we're not going to get her
maybe we get her at the end of the
the next to the last episode maybe
and the final and the episode finale is her
you know figuring things out but I doubt it
my guess is that my guess is she shows up as a cliffhanger
and the end of episode 15 and all of episode 16 is her
is all about her that's very possible leading into
season 8 because I mean let's just rope the band-aid off
all right you I'm shocked you want her back so
I don't, I don't, but I'm just sick of having to wait.
Just rip it off, bring her back, and let's, you know, then kill her off.
Bring her back, then kill her.
I'm okay with that.
What's funny is that that's why we're annoyed with it,
but there are like people that like her that are annoyed with it
because they won't bring her back because they want to see her,
and I do not get that fan base at all.
And I love, I just love how you think it's so baffling
that we're in the minority of not liking Madison.
I mean, so like Twitter is not real life.
I know. I know Twitter's not real life.
In media that report on this, they're not real life either.
So I don't know. I've never spoke to someone that was like, oh my gosh, that Madison character is awesome.
I've never spoke to anybody like that before.
It's possible that the people you surround yourself with are like you, are, you know, like-minded.
She's not a good character.
She was in, I agree.
We were done with her character.
We were done with it.
It's really strange.
That's got to be a gimple,
uh,
Yang or Lang or Wang.
Kang isn't,
Kang isn't doesn't touch fear.
Yeah, they all have.
No,
I don't buy it.
No, no, no, no.
The two showrunners, because the fear has two showrunners.
They don't touch dead.
The Kang doesn't touch fear.
The only one that touches both of them is gimple.
I don't buy it
Okay
I'm just gonna blink
King
And also the
I
Do you don't bog me down with facts
The
The
The interview with the actress who plays Madison
She actually said
If it wasn't for
Fans wanting her back
They probably wouldn't have brought her back
Of course they're going to say that
Yeah
Of course they're going to say that
Yeah of course
I mean that is
Oh I'm just so loved by the fans
They wanted me
I want to thank all the fans
She asked me to be back
Well, the thing is, she has been complaining quite, she did complain a bit when, a couple years ago when she died off, she did not like the way her character was killed off. She hated it. She's complained about it multiple times.
Well, we know now that she wasn't killed off. Well, I know, but I still, it's not the actor. It's really not the actress, because I like the actress. She's been a ton of stuff that I really like. Yes, she has.
Maybe like that's the writing. It's the writing. Yeah. Yeah, her character, her character was always agon.
Yeah, well, if they've, if someone else is writing her character now, it might be okay.
Because the actress can pull it off. She's good. But I don't know.
Okay.
Maybe all right.
She was in Sons of Anarchy. She was great. She was in Deadwood. She was great.
So it's not the actress. It's purely how they wrote the character. So if they did it a 180 and now she's like, I don't know what I mean, Madison will be good.
Because a lot of people, a lot of Madison fans actually have seen complaining about,
specifically great now that Charlie is dying
they Madison won't want to kill her more
I think Charlie's going to live I think she's going to win through it
because she had that when they show her in the bed sick
and seniors says oh look at her skin
and they show her in the bed sick and laying there they give you that
soap opera look of her laying in bed where she's got the sheets down
you see all the red on her yeah but she still looks
good. Just saying.
And, oh yeah,
I'm not supposed to notice her. And
so I'm just telling her she's going to survive.
You really think Charlie's going to survive?
We're not going to kill her off.
I just don't care enough about the character to even
care to hypothesize about it. All I care
about will Madison kill her because she killed Nick.
That's what everybody's
wanting.
Madison is going to be too
she's going to be too wound up over
what's going on.
And next week we have the episode
called The Raft and
Morgan and Alicia planned their
next steps. Dwight and Sherry
faced the prospect of having to
choose between their code and their safety.
I don't know.
We're getting Dwight and Sherry in that episode.
I feel like
it's going to be, you know, talking about
having to choose between their code and their
safety. I'm just going to leave you again.
No, don't leave. I'm just going to
leave. I'm just going to go again. No,
I don't. Right.
I can't. I can't.
It's so funny.
read a pre-release of the script.
That's exactly what I'm.
It's so funny.
I'll never forget.
When Sherry first came back to fear,
we were all ecstatic.
It was a great scene.
It was a great culmination of everything.
That was a cool scene.
Yeah, it was.
It was awesome.
And then after we were like,
you haven't changed.
Yeah,
that was awesome.
It's going to end with her apologizing
for choosing somebody else over Dwight.
They're going to reconcile.
And Dwight's an idiot for taking her back.
The end.
Thanks for listening to Talking Walking Dead.
We've just wrapped up next week as well,
but we will see you back here to make sure that our script was pretty close to being correct.
Hopefully they proof for it for the wrap.
But overall, two weeks in a row, and this week being the best,
fear is on an upward trend.
So pretty happy about it.
Let's hope it continues.
Absolutely.
Thank you for listening to Talking Walking Dead.
We'll see you back here next week.
