Season 8, episode 10, the Walking Dead, Fear, the Walking Dead edition.
Keeping her alive was the title.
We're in the final episodes of Fear the Walking Dead.
The episode description on IMDB, Madison, makes a discovery that could lead her to the answer she seeks.
Myself, Jeff Fisher, Jason Butchell, and Maximus Fisher bring you talking, walking dead.
Welcome to it.
Jason Butchell, Maximus Fisher.
uh even they i mean we're down to the this is this the there's two more episodes left one night
of fear i believe is left uh which is next week and we wrap this show up even they want to be done
with it because this show i mean this show is holy cow i i'll you know no i don't want to i don't want to
I don't want to be too harsh.
So, Jason, hi.
How are you?
I'm the whipping boy.
I'm great.
Thanks.
Well, I guess.
No, no.
No, no.
Did you enjoy the episode as much as myself?
Probably.
Probably.
I'm thinking we're on the same wavelength there.
Man, that was good.
What a contrast from last weeks, huh?
I mean, the purpose of that one up.
Big,
Contrast.
Big contrast.
I had some hope
after last week's episode.
Like, oh,
maybe the finale's actually,
I'm having some hope.
I had some hope after last week's episode.
I got to tell you,
cosplaying
Alicia Girl Scouts or whatever,
a group of Girl Scouts
that decided to cosplay as Alicia
was not in my bingo card for fear of all.
With the MRAP.
With the MRAP.
With the MRAP.
Like,
That was the most ridiculous plot point I've ever seen injected into a show, ever.
It was awesome.
I mean, it's just, no, no, no, no, it was awesome.
Plus, I will say that this show, we can break it down, but why?
Anyway, the-
Well, we have to make this last 30 minutes, don't we?
No, we do not.
This show does not have to be 30 minutes.
This show is whatever length we want it.
And by we, I mean me.
the uh can i tell before all that before we launch can i tell you my favorite quote of the
show i would like yes jason please do my favorite quote comes from a mr victor strand in the heat
of one of the most suspenseful moments this is awesome in the entire show strand launches in
and i quote it's okay madison everything is going to be fine these women are continuing
elisha's legacy end quote that was
was a real line that a real person
wrote for this show.
These women
are continuing Alicia's legacy.
What are we even doing?
I mean, they're treating Alicia
like she's some messianic
savior. Yeah.
It was Alicia.
Yeah. Come on.
I know. And we
killed, I mean, we also
this show, we've given this show
a lot of leeway as far as
geography is concerned and travel is concerned but this episode
too far outdid themselves because they show they show the math and we're in and it's
georgia it's like Georgia-ish because I swear I read Atlanta like I read a couple like
Georgia locations right and then they were like okay let's go to Fort Worth it's right
around the corner so we've been and then and then at the last episode even last
episode, which was good. I'm going to say last
episode was good.
Yeah, the travel.
Yeah, last episode was good.
The travel thing was hilarious because
last episode they just went up to Virginia.
And everybody was
just there. And
with this geography
thing, Troy is on
foot and he just shows up. He's there.
He was there. Oh.
No, no, Ty, we're just there.
I've just been walking with my walkie-talkie
and I know exactly where you're at.
It's incredible.
Really, the whole thing was really amazing.
Troy, speaking of like, just, I don't, so I don't, I still don't understand the whole Troy thing.
They're, I mean, he's basically like, he reminds me of like a backup singer in the Backstreet Boys or some other boy band.
He's not dangerous.
He's not something to worry about.
But they're treating him like he's, I don't know, like Napoleon.
Yeah.
But in the end times.
I'm like,
well,
they should have,
they should have kept Teddy alive.
He would have been a great end villain.
I,
I know you didn't like him much,
Jason,
but I love Teddy.
Oh,
I am screaming for him to come back at this point.
Screaming.
This dude,
as the main antagonist.
Yeah.
As the end one.
I know.
And we're saving,
okay,
then let's,
let's,
oh,
go.
Okay,
another thing that Joe drove me insane.
So they're leaving Padre on their Padre boat.
And Strand pulls down the mask, right, the blindfold of the little girl.
And so she can see a lighthouse.
A lighthouse.
So she knows that because of that lighthouse, she'll know where Padre is and can tell Troy.
And then she jumps off the boat.
Hands tied.
Strand
I guess on tie
If I remember watching the scene again
He unties his
His handcuffs
And pulls the cord
He knows exactly where the cords are on the boat
And pulls the cords
So that the boat doesn't run
And jumps off the boat
And then they're miraculously unsure
Oh
Okay
All right great
Because every little kid can swim with their hands cuffed
Once they jump off a boat
All right
you got it you got it and then we're on ground we're on land and we know exactly where
Madison is because nobody knows where Madison is except for Strand out in the wilderness
it was bizarre bizarre to me I was like wait we just run into Madison here
yeah like even if she was playing heavy metal music from a boom box really
it's just lazy everything is stupid in this show it's like
It's like what's happened to Marvel.
I mean, Marvel sucks now.
And they're all just getting lazy.
Everything sucks.
I don't know.
This is the poster child for lazy Hollywood writing and production.
It's just awful.
Let's be honest here, we know Dead City and Daryl didn't have these writers,
and we know Rick and Michaud don't have these writers.
So, I mean, yeah, we do know that.
Okay, because Rick and Michone isn't until February.
right the ones who live which is you know we're hoping that it's going to be up to par with darrell and
dead city and that doesn't make it so but we're hoping that it is i don't know you got to feel sorry if
i mean yeah i mean they're like dead city and darrell they're starting basically with a clean slate
you know they can do whatever they want the the the way they're having to craft the episodes now
they've been giving a steaming turd pile and they're like okay somehow make this turd pile
Like somehow wrap a bow around this to this turd pile.
Yeah.
And they're like, well, we can't even make this make sense.
It's so ludicrous and ridiculous.
And nobody likes the characters.
So what do we do?
I think that's why they got rid of Morgan.
They were like, okay.
And mid-season finale, get rid of Morgan.
So we could put him in those who live.
I think that's a good point, Max.
I think that you don't want to have him associated with the show anymore,
especially what this, they knew this was going to be a debacle.
they knew that there was one guy that was reading the scripts and he read that you know they're continuing
Alicia's legacy line and he was like okay back up red light let's get Morgan the only good part of
the show out of this so he's not tainted that is possible yeah that's very possible now we've brought
on new characters we've got all these new characters except for white and cherry
and that whole thing with Dwight and sherry and they they show up at Padre and walk in and they
know that Strand has the kid.
How do they know that?
That I was confused.
I was like, wait, I thought he did this in secret.
What?
How do they know that he's got the kid?
What'd you say? We have our little spies or something?
Yeah. Okay.
All right. And all these people at Padre are just okay with Strand taking over.
He walked in and said, hey, there's a new sheriff in town.
Well, yeah, because Madison put him in charge.
That's what that's taken to fly.
I did like, I did like Strand saying the obvious, said, okay, well, these are children.
and then he said that right to that one chick
the little girl that's always like
oh we can do it and she
she had that like frown on her face
and he said that but Strand's husband in the background
started laughing did you notice that?
That was actually funny.
I genuinely think that might not
have been scripted. I think that might have actually been a
genuine laugh. I hope so.
I hope so.
That's actually true.
I know. Really, really good.
And I don't
I don't know. I just
was the whole geography and everybody's showing up when they needed to show up.
I get we,
I get where,
you know,
we're bypassing some kind of reality for the show.
But it's supposed to be at least gripped on some sort of reality, right?
I mean, it's supposed to be.
Like,
you know what?
Like,
this was reminding me,
like,
when I mentioned Teddy just as a one-off,
that made me think back to that,
that season where he was the main villain.
We were just in Texas.
And it was, the geography made sense.
Oh, okay, it's a couple hours to get down to the coast.
Okay, we're here.
Like, it actually made sense.
Yes, there was some grip of reality.
It's a little bit.
And then when the nukes went off, we actually, like, right after the nukes went off,
and we were surviving the radiation of the fallout, it made sense where everyone kind of was,
like, because there was the tower.
We had the tower.
That's where it was, and then we're surrounding it.
But after that, it kind of went all over the place.
Well, that's because the tower burned, right? And Alicia, the Savior, came down from the heavens and walked into the tower and brought out gas and food and saved them all.
I believe it was described as a silhouette appeared on the horizon. That was the direct quote.
I was like, okay, stop. You had to save the quotes, didn't you?
Stop. I apologize. It's like amazing lines stick out to you, knowing people just will quote.
know amazing quotes.
That's true in the reverse as well from this episode.
I'm never forgetting how bad that was.
I know.
Strand had several during the episode.
I like Strand too.
He's one of the few characters.
Coleman Domingo is a great actor.
We've seen him in fear and we've seen him in other things.
Coleman Domingo is a great actor.
All these episodes,
now even Madison, I mean, it's like we're just mailing it in.
We've got kids acting just terribly.
And we're supposed to believe them and this little girl.
I would like show me a girl her age.
I know we've gone through.
I know she's probably been, you know, she's got the, you know, her dad is the evil,
the evil guy and has, you know, told her everything about everything.
So she knows all.
I'd like to see how she knows how to read a map.
Because I don't know.
I mean, it's hard pressed for me to see a young kid in today's.
world read a map. No, I know. I know, Max. I know. That's because, I mean, we made it clear in
our lives that you would be able to read a map. I got it. But I'm just saying, that doesn't happen
in today's world. Okay, one, I'm actually got to fight. I got to fight back on this one. One,
I, I was, you knew what I was about saying. I knew how to read a map for years. I still do.
Yeah, I know. At her reach?
Right. Also, also two. Yeah, close. Two, the thing is with this show. But not as
There's no GPS.
There is no GPS.
And I get that they need maps.
But there's no way that they open up a map and she goes, there.
She's like 10.
They open up a map.
There.
Oh,
okay.
I will say that she was the one bright spot of the entire episode.
Yeah, she's not a bad.
She was funny.
She had some good lines.
Yeah.
Some good comeback lines.
Yeah.
And she's just like for that age, she was a badass.
Yeah.
She was smart.
And I mean, yeah.
So, okay.
All right.
So, all right.
Great.
She knows how to read a map.
Sorry.
I got it.
It's hilarious, too.
We're mentioning it with different actors.
Like, Kim Dickens, like, we've seen her outside of fear.
She's genuinely a pretty good actress.
She has made one of it then.
Huh?
We've seen her?
I thought, well, dad has at least.
He has said he's seen stuff that Kim Dickens has done outside of fear.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
I've enjoyed her work.
And, well, I guess one show, Deadwood, right?
I don't
I'm trying to think if there was another
another one that I enjoyed with her
Oh yeah
Yeah yeah she was in Sansaeroy
too yeah
So I mean she's done some work that
You know
She's been fine
You know
She's been in shows that have been epic productions
So I don't know if we go back
And look at her just specifically
You know I don't know
I'll just say that she's been fine
In those episodes
Well she's just been giving nothing to work with
there. Nothing. I mean, her lines are reduced to, you know, my son is to rest. I can put him to
rest, so now I need to do that for a leash him. Like, what are you going to do with that?
There's nothing to be done.
This is on a walker kill with her boombox. Apparently, she only needs oxygen from time to time.
As often as we thought.
She still needs it, though. They made sure to show her taking oxygen.
still needed but that's a lot of walkers killed without
sucking on that oxygen tank i'll tell you that swinging a sledgehammer which is
probably the most non you know i don't know that's that's the last weapon you're
going to choose we have to swing it around a lot right especially if you if you have
breathing issues that takes some work i mean the last time i was swinging sledgehammers uh you know
grenade i mean that takes i've actually swung sledgehammers recently you have to actually
there's a technique to it you have there's an actual technique to swing against
let's head and madison has that technique down perfectly perfect so i just and the the the stand
the standoffs with no one with you know then we we don't see the shoot out and we don't see any of it
and uh but but i guess it happened because we saw the aftermath but it was just incredible some of the
things then. And I love
I did love
the hot wire
the truck and oh good, a full tank.
Oh, that's fortunate.
Well, because at least that one's
explained away because it's explained away
because that one at least was part of Luciana's
group. Are you working for AMC now?
I don't see this episode sucked.
I'm just trying to.
I love the
going back to the shootout.
Luciana's comment afterwards. She's like,
they were crazy. They just kept coming at us like they didn't care if they lived or died.
It's like, where have you banned? What world are you in?
If they're like religious zealots, that comment makes sense.
Not a group of survivors led under Troy.
Right. Like, you expect them to go start a boy band and sing. Not like become like jihadists or something like that's not a thing.
Really hooked on this boy band thing, aren't you?
I was trying to think of an analogy like where he fits.
fits. And I was like,
it's a little,
because he was,
except the position they have him in now.
And he just kind of looks like he's clean cut,
you know.
But he has the eye thing,
the eye thing,
that doesn't match with boy band stuff.
And the I think,
I mean,
it's not even as bad.
Every time I look at him,
I think,
is that supposed to be bad?
I mean,
I know he got to do with it.
Yeah.
I mean,
I,
I know,
I know.
But maybe I'm making too much.
The whole frozen walker thing, I guess that was kind of cool, a little.
I'll admit that we had some okay walkers, not the best, but we had some okay ones.
Yeah, yeah, we saw some okay walkers.
Miraculously, the walkers stood still long enough for their feet to get frozen in that field.
Yeah, how did that, I'm not sure how that worked.
Did we just...
You're not supposed to.
Okay.
Figure it out.
All right.
Go with it.
All right, never mind.
And then we went to the lady was, was, was, was,
What's her face's mom?
Not Alicia.
Yeah, not Alicia.
Right, so what's her face?
Tracy.
So, yeah, one of the walkers was Tracy's mom.
Okay, it wasn't Alicia.
That was a theory going around.
Right, right, right.
But no, she was someone who believed in what Alicia was doing, and that got her killed.
So has anyone actually seen Alicia get killed?
No.
Because the Alicia cosplayers, did they say they saw her get killed?
They said she was killed.
They didn't say they saw it.
Yeah, they said she was killed, right?
Or that Troy had killed her or whatever.
Yeah, but they didn't say they saw it.
Right.
So.
I have to say something.
Part of me just had some bit of joy when I saw the MRAP come up and then the machine guns come up.
I love that.
I love the MRAP.
I was kind of hoping that it was what's her face.
Al?
Yeah.
That would be cool.
Me too.
I was like, if she jumps out, that's our link.
Yeah, that would be really cool.
Exactly. That's what I was hoping for it.
I was like, all right, there's our link.
If there's one fear character, other than I guess
Morgan, because he counts, that's
going to show up. And those who live, I want Al to show up.
She was one of the best characters feared produced.
You really think that?
Yes, I do.
I can't agree. Yeah, I didn't really like Al the character too much,
but I liked the direction the plot went through.
I was one of the best characters fear produced.
No, that's a good question.
Who is the best character
Fear for this?
Oh God, we're going to be a while.
Good question.
Al, John Dory, John Dory, Sr.
And Teddy.
And you're putting Al on that list?
I'm putting Al on that list.
I have to.
Wait, we go.
I liked her character.
You think she's hot?
No, I don't.
Okay, now I get it.
Never mind.
Never mind.
Really?
After all the jokes.
Jason, you're 100%.
After all the jokes.
She's in the way.
We cracked the code.
Okay.
After all the jobs.
All right.
She's in the window and she's grabbing on the firearms.
Oh, for me.
And Max is fine.
Every time she pulled up firing off those.
She's like a little bikini.
No.
He had some sucky episodes.
Everybody in this show has a
small motion.
All I want to do is be in that iron machine with Al.
For a low price.
All right.
No problem, Max.
Don't worry about it.
Don't be ashamed.
It's all right.
We all have our stuff.
It's all good.
So, I mean, it could be Alicia coming back from the heavens, right?
Because the last two episodes...
Last two episodes next Sunday, I wouldn't be surprised if Alicia just randomly shows up.
The first episode is a horde led by Troy surrounds the walls of Padre.
I thought Padre was an island.
It is.
Okay.
All right.
I guess he puts them on floaters or something.
and Madison and her people must fight for their survival to save what remains.
And then the final episode, The Road Ahead.
As the series comes to an end,
Thank you, Jesus.
The fate of Padre's survivors seems to rest in the hands of an unexpected hero.
That has to be Alicia.
I would be shocked if it's not.
So Lisa comes down from the heavens.
Does this
The entire like
There were being led to go find Alicia
Like it's gonna be awful
It's even more dumb than it currently is
If she's if she's a walker and they just go kill her as she's a walker
And then they mosey on back to Padre
Right
That's the biggest waste of time ever
If that's what happens
Yeah that's for sure
So if she comes back and the
Which
The girl group
Oh, the cosplayers?
The cosplayers.
Daughters of Alicia.
That's what I'm called.
That's the daughters of Alicia.
That's what it is now.
The daughters of Alicia.
That's good.
We're all Alicia now.
And if they realize, if she comes back, what was the line coming out of the tower?
A silhouette appeared on the horizon.
A new silhouette.
If a new silhouette arrives at something.
the horizon at Padre it's going to be her and it's going to be the half of arm
left hand I hangin and it's going to be the queen of Alicia to save Padre these women
are continuing her legacy yeah yeah we need to make a logo the daughters of Alicia I
need to get a graphic with the quotes on there yeah oh my gosh I'd wear that we should get that
as a teacher all right and I will say this we had the the old guy that was shot the
German guy. He turned quick. He was a quick
turner. I was pretty amazed
at how quick he turned. I guess
when they need you to turn fast, you turn fast.
That's just the way it is. It's okay.
All right. All right.
Don't worry about it. We're all fine.
I just
I'm happy that it's coming to an end.
I don't know that.
Eight years of fear.
I know.
I know.
Eight years of agony.
And
we have, I don't know. I don't know.
that I could, I mean, I guess I'm with you on John Dory,
characters from fear that were worthy of really liking.
I don't know that I'm with you on Al.
Who was the other one?
Dory's dad, senior.
Yeah, he was okay.
And you love Teddy.
I don't know if there's anyone else.
I really don't.
I don't know if there's anyone else.
Petro Negan and it's not even close.
Okay.
Let's be honest here.
Right.
We should all, let's watch the beginning of season four again with him because he's become such a meme on this show.
But we both, we all agree it was not good.
Mattroningen?
Yeah.
Yeah.
He's just a meme.
I did go back and watch episode one of the Walking Dead.
Oh, well.
This past week.
And it was incredible.
I remember it all came back to me how I got hooked, what hooked me.
the whole thing. It was really good.
And I remember you did say
you kind of felt that way about the first
episode of Darrell like, man, this is good.
Yeah, I was hooked.
I don't know that I was hooked as
much as the first episode of
Walking Dead, but it was
good. It was good to watch it again.
So why don't you go back and watch the first episode
of Fear before the finale?
Well, that wraps up today.
Man, do I want to talk some more about fear?
But we just ran out of time. Darn the look.
Wish we could stick around.
I'll give you your final parting shot, Mr. Butchell.
Oh, I should have just had one more, Daniel.
Oh, yeah, yeah, that was a good character.
But they really screwed him up.
You know, one minute he's got dementia, then he doesn't remember anything.
Now he's back to being the Daniel that I kind of like.
But they didn't know what to do with the character instead of just making him the badass.
And they ruined him.
And it was very, I mean, that's what they did to most of their characters.
That was a, that was a prerequisite on fear.
Oh, we're going to have you great characters and then we're just going to rip them apart and you're going to hate them.
So they did that a lot.
Hollywood in a nutshell.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No kidding.
One more, one more painful night.
And it's all over.
I know.
I know the final two episodes next week.
But it's a good, it's a good, I don't know.
It's a good birth to the new era of, you know,
Walking Dead universe. We're saying goodbye to the crap and saying hello to things shows like Daryl and
you know, those those words. No kidding. Think of the guys that, the guys that looked at the script
and got rid of Morgan that said, okay, we're going to get rid of Morgan before we get to do this last,
these last season, because we don't want him connected with it. They have got to, they must have been
really angry that
Dead City and Daryl
were put out before the end of fear
because those shows showed what
the shows could have possibly been
and weren't. And how
awful fear is. Oh my gosh.
Hey,
at least it's not world beyond.
It's part of the family.
But the thing is with world beyond,
as bad as it was.
We still at least had hope for the future
because we were going into the new world.
Yeah, we had a ton of CRM. We had Jadis.
Yeah, we were getting hopes of, you know, seeing Rick,
although he had to be with his family.
It couldn't be part of the talking, the walking dead world.
Yeah, okay, whatever.
Thanks, Rick.
But, you know, we had hopes for the future.
We didn't have that for fear.
We had it for like three episodes, and then it went away.
It's so weird.
Yeah.
Such a huge plot point.
They're talking about it in the show, and it just gets abandoned.
Like, it got abandoned when I left.
It did.
Yeah.
That was over.
All right.
Final thoughts, Maximus.
Yeah, this episode was not good.
It wasn't that good.
I had, like, the previous episode, Sanctuary, even with the dumb geography stuff,
that episode was like, you know what?
That was an okay episode.
That actually had, I had some hope there.
Now I'm wondering if the finale is genuinely just going to be awful.
All hope is lost.
This episode was so bad on the last.
level of, you know how like cult movies become cult movies because they're so horrible?
But people like laugh at it and they become below.
I feel like this episode could possibly become.
Yeah, they're going to do like a fathom event where, you know,
theaters all across the country, you know, offer tickets just to watch this episode
every year on the same day.
People in the stand.
The room, Shark Nato, Bird Damic, and stuff like that.
Fear the Walking Dead Season 8.
There's a new bunch of Alicia cosplayers running around, you know, like.
All right, this is where they mentioned her coming out of the tower.
Go, go.
That's very possible.
That actually would be hilarious.
I would love to be a part of that.
Okay, let's, I'm done talking about fear now.
Thanks for listening to Talking Walking Dead.
Jason Butchow, Maximus Fisher, myself, Jeff Fisher.
Appreciate you coming along for the ride.
One more, and fear is over.
We're going to have a party.
Yeah, we're going to have a party, all right.
We're going to have a party.
All right. Thank you for listening to Talking Walking Dead.
