Season 8, episode 2, titled BlueJay.
And that makes this Talking Walking Dead Fear the Walking Dead edition.
Welcome to it.
Myself, Jeff Fisher, Jason Buttrill, and Maximus Fisher, along for the ride here today on Talking Walking Dead, the episode description on IMDB for Fear the Walking Dead, episode 2, Blue Jay.
after fleeing Padre, June's safety and solitude is threatened by an unwelcomed reunion and a desperate father's search for his missing daughter.
All right.
Jason, hello.
Hey.
Hello.
Hello.
I will say that this episode was much better than episode one.
Yeah.
I'll check that off right away.
I enjoy it.
It was good to, uh, it's just it's strange to see.
all the characters
after the time jump
you know that we've been living
all this time doing something
that really in my eyes
I wouldn't have seen them
doing they all just bent
the knee to this Padre what are we doing
yeah
it was kind of funny in the very
beginning I didn't know if this was like
another bad Terminator sequel
I kept waiting to see like when June's
running around the sleeveless shirt being
you know a commando yeah
If like Arnold Schwarzenegger was then jump out and go, are you sell Akana?
Because it looked like, they were like trying to copy that from the outside.
I will say, though, that I thought that that was I liked her cutting off the fingers.
I think it was kind of badass.
It was chopping people's fingers off, sniping them with trained guns.
I mean, that's kind of badass.
I'll give you that.
I will say that I feel like she could have done more if she was been doing this for what?
Several years and that jar was not full.
That's true.
I would feel like there would be more fingers than that.
They knew who someone was out there
cutting off fingers, but it seemed like there would be
more fingers cut off.
Maybe she had to dump the jar every once in a while.
That's my theory. She just had to dump the jar
every once in a while to refill it.
And she's been out there all this time, and now we have
the new group with the dad showing up out of nowhere.
Like, we've been watching you. We know who you are.
But she didn't know them. I just, I don't know.
Okay.
That's got to be Homeboys group, right?
What's his name?
Your boy?
Daniel?
Daniel, yeah.
No, because I think he's with Padre.
Look, I'm torn because the promos for next week
show Daniel back, which I'm a fan of.
But I was thinking that he's part of Padre,
but maybe he's part of Hanna Dad's group.
You're right.
That would be awesome.
Gosh, I hope not.
The whole like reveal of Dwight and and what's her name?
Sherry.
Sherry.
Yeah.
Like, I mean, come on, guys.
How many times, like, I love the calculation.
We're like, wait a minute.
This is starting to feel like the sanctuary.
You think?
How many times are you guys going to like get fooled into that and be like, oh, wait a minute.
I never really thought about that.
We just joined another sanctuary.
This is like the fifth time?
Come on, guys.
Especially after they had the kid and then they get separated.
from the kid and then he even admitted that they weren't together at Padre.
The only thing that was missing there is one of them deciding to leave and the other one decided
to stay.
I thought for sure it was going to happen.
It's coming.
It's coming.
I thought for sure that was going to happen because that's all I could think of.
It didn't.
It actually didn't.
They agreed to leave.
I don't.
It's too good to be true.
I don't buy it.
They're going to split.
It's going to happen.
The kid would believe.
I mean, the kids are brainwashed, right?
I mean, they're part of the Padre cult.
So, I mean, it's going to take a while to deprogram the kid.
So he wants nothing to do with it, right?
I mean, he doesn't believe it.
So we'll see what happens with there.
I will say that Hanna Dad storyline was interesting.
And there was no way.
I mean, I love the fact that the kid is in the train car.
Awesome.
That was a surprise.
It was awesome.
I love that.
And I, at first,
First, when June was going, they get to the train cars and, you know, she gives the warning of these train cars aren't really in good shape.
So you know they're going to fall through the roof.
Hello.
That's going to happen.
She already laid the groundwork for that.
So when she went after them, I was surprised that she wasn't killing the walkers as she was walking by them.
But then it come to find out those are her test subjects.
Yeah, she was experimenting on them.
Yes, so that's why she wasn't killing them
because it was just made no sense to me
why she just didn't stab them as she was walking by them.
They're all tied up.
They're chained up or handcuffed or whatever.
However, they're in the train car.
Just stab them in the head and be done with it.
But they were still her test subjects.
So she didn't want to kill them.
Then she ends up having to shoot them, which was just dumb.
Tell me, what did you guys think of that reveal of like
what the train cars were for for Padre?
she was there and like they were basically radiation therapy and walkers and like or people that are
infected because of specifically because of Alicia because she was in she got like hit with radiation
and that's why she like survived longer with a bite or something right I guess that's why why she
survived right yeah that's what we're that's what we're doing and it was uh you know and of course
june is you know wants to pretend that she's a doctor I guess officially she probably is
now. Since she's just a nurse, just a nurse for you registered nurses out there, you're not
doctors. They hate that so much. Yeah, every nurse is going to try to punch you at the face.
Absolutely. We know more than the doctors. I know. I got the story. But she, you know, was,
now she was just, she was working for Padre, but decided she couldn't go on with the treatments
or with the research anymore. So she just left. I will say that,
But the big bad Padre bitch, I'm a fan of.
She was in the last episode, too.
I'm a fan of, yeah, oh, yeah.
She was in the matter.
What was her...
Sheev, Shreve.
Shreve.
I think it's Shreve.
I could be wrong.
What's your name?
I put it in the notes because I'd looked it up because I never could figure out her stupid name, Shrek or something.
I said Shreve.
No, I think it's Shrek.
Shrike.
Shrike.
Sh-R-I-K-E- Shrike is her name.
Yeah.
Her odd appearance.
kind of adds to the, I guess,
likeability of the character.
I don't know.
She looks like she came off the island of Dr. Moreau
and we're like, Dr. Moreau.
So we find out she was the one kind of in charge of the-
Combined a squirrel and a human being or something like that.
That's the villain.
So we find out she's the one that's in charge of the experiment
that was in charge of them,
but they couldn't do it without June.
So when June decided to leave,
she cut off her finger.
And she said, I figured it was you.
No one's that precise.
She takes off the glove and her finger's gone.
Yeah.
And I love the ending too where they cut June's finger off, which was awesome.
Yeah.
It was awesome.
I love that.
Plus, oh.
I was not expecting them to bite the kid.
I love.
That was insane.
I love the electronic Walker bite head.
Yeah.
Just we could just hold the head and let it bite the kid.
We've got put it in the machine and build the suspense.
Oh.
Yeah.
That's awesome.
That's crazy.
That was one of the more brutal parts in the entire franchise.
I'm like, are they going to do it?
Are they actually going to do it?
And they did it.
Yeah, I didn't think they were.
Like, seeing Dwight, like, I'm just saying this.
I get it like, we all like to crap on this, like, crap on the show every once in a while.
But seeing Dwight and Sherry, like, flip out that their son's going to get bit.
That was, that was a good scene.
It sucked, but it was a good scene.
Yeah.
I'm trying to find out where Shrike is from, because I bet she's from England.
I want to find others.
Oh, like, I should have looked to see her, but I bet she's from the UK.
Has anyone, are you looking at the cast right now?
He's looking at that up right now.
I'm curious, has anybody speculated on who Padre might actually be?
Because they dropped a pronoun.
They said he.
Yeah, because we kind of know at this point, the guy that was in the, the guy that talks over the, like, the speaker.
Yeah.
I think that's Padre.
Right.
I want to know who that is.
Because they're really holding that reveal off for some reason.
I don't know.
It'd be crazy if it was someone that we actually know or has popped up in the show before.
But it's been so, yeah, I don't know who that would be, right?
I mean, who have we seen that's still alive that would be that?
I don't know.
Yeah, I don't think anybody.
Why are they, like, being so cryptic with who it is?
One of the, I mean, you could go, I guess you could go all the way back to,
I guess you could go all the way back to the drug dealers,
right, that had back surgery and everything,
somewhere in that group.
It's going to be Metro Negan, you watch.
He's going to show up in a silk shirt.
He's like, hey, a Padre.
What if it's, I don't think so,
because we're to believe that he's dead,
but what if it's her face's husband
that supposedly died in the helicopter guy?
He finally shows up.
Oh, my gosh.
It's been this long.
I would be a fan of that.
That'd be crazy.
He would have known that that's his ex-wife.
That's why he's keeping her alive.
That's why he keeps providing her with oxygen.
He can't bring himself to killer.
That's it.
That's it.
I will point out at the billion times.
Oh, my gosh.
I will point out, they never showed his body.
Never showed his body.
I know.
That's your theory now.
That's your theory.
I think it is.
I think it is.
I think it's him.
I want it to be him now.
Oh,
that is awesome.
He's going to show up and he's going to reveal your theory that all the newborn babies are immune.
Not this again.
That's why he's protecting him so much.
Yeah.
The kids are it.
No, we're not here again.
We proved you wrong.
Well, yeah, no, that was earlier.
We've been where the time jump at.
We're in real time now.
And who was and who was the girl that?
we said was the secret spy in the
original and the walking dead.
Oh, he did. Yeah.
And that's going to get proven as well.
How will that get proven?
How will that get proven? How will that get proven?
Guys, stay tuned.
We will be vindicated.
All my theories are correct.
Oh, my theory.
By the way, Maya,
she, a shit,
I'm sorry about the horrible
pronunciation, is
an Israeli actor.
She's from Israel.
All right.
Makes it better than the UK.
She's not British.
There you go, Jason.
Thank God.
I know.
I did like, I felt bad for, I don't know, I thought for sure the dad was going to kill himself, the Hannah dad, after he realized that, you know, his daughter was dead in a subject.
But I feel like, if that was me, that was me, and that was my kid, wouldn't you go in there and.
hug her and take the bite, but then you'd shoot the kid and shoot yourself, right, to end it.
Because he knew, he knows how to kill the walkers.
That's what he'd been doing to try to find Hannah.
So instead, he's just going to live out Walker life with the kid.
Well, no, that was his head.
That bit, that's true.
That was his head.
But he's not what he planned.
I mean, he planned to just get bid and live out Walker life with his daughter.
until
Padre bitch comes
The whole
That whole part of the show
What was that like a full like 20 minute
You know portion was just all brutal
I mean it's yeah
You gotta give it to them and it was
Yeah, like this show or not
Like I've said this before
The highs of Fear the Walking Dead
They work some they work a lot of the time
Yeah they do
Yeah they do now
So now we're gonna
We're going to have the...
We have a low, aren't we?
Yeah, and we have a nine-finger June still working research in the train cars, right, for the plan for Padre.
Although she's not going to want to do it.
Dwight, I did like...
So I'm watching the episode as Dwight and Sherry are in the research car, and they're talking about the, you know, June is telling them the story of everything after they found the, the,
the documented papers and stuff
and the whole time I think I wonder if
Dwight's going to ask hey
can you maybe fix my face
I'm thinking of
three cuts to clown face
maybe we get this
you want him to fix the iron
that's just a stupid joke
I got it
what was the nickname they gave him
the kid said it a couple of times
red something
well no no uh red kite
what was it
I think it was red kite
red kite
kite. Well, yeah, because they all have different ones because like, because remember Morgan said around
her you need to call me Nightingale. They all have different code names. They don't have real names in Podre.
Right, because June was Blue Jay. Yeah. That was the point. Did you remember, remember that?
It's like, it's like their naming policy is like off a stepbrothers. You can, you can call me
Nighthawk. You can call me. I would have a more badass nickname, I think, if I was in Padre.
Well, you'll take the name that we give you. And the bird that we choose for you is what you get.
That's just the way it is.
And I, I, uh,
Where's Dragon?
He's that with Buzzsaw.
Yeah, the Padre bitch, man.
She's definitely Buzzsaw, man.
She's messing around with that, man.
Freaking up.
Hawk something, man.
But so, but yeah, so, okay, what's our record?
What's the usual?
Whenever we get a good episode of fear,
what's the equivalent in bad episodes we get to another good episode?
Well, next week is titled,
Odessa and it's
a Mo's
hunt to prove Padre's true
intentions has her in
over her head. Oh yeah, she draws into the larger
web of secrets. Yeah, the kid's going to
try to start nosing around and they're going to say
what do you think you're doing back up so
who knows it and at the end. I mean we have Morgan running off
with his hands tied with... Oh, they teased you again
but it was a fake out.
I know.
I knew that, although sadly, I knew that this was a tease.
You know, she was setting up to let Morgan escape.
I saw that coming.
But it was another tease of Madison dying, which did raise my heart for just a second.
Just a split second.
I was like, all right, she's going to get to die now.
No.
What would you do if there is a moment where?
Holy cow.
I'm telling you, that's why she's still alive.
I couldn't figure out why they are keeping her alive, always feeding her oxygen.
That's because Padre is the hubby.
He doesn't want a killer.
I love that.
It's like a grand unifying theory, and I love it.
I'm telling you he's not coming back.
I mean, he's coming back.
That is awesome.
That is awesome.
If it is, if that is, that's insane.
You heard it here on talking walking dead first because that is it, man.
I love that.
I love it.
I love that.
Oh, my gosh.
Now I have to start Googling around to see if anyone's been guessing.
I really haven't seen it.
Well, I haven't really been looking for it, but I haven't seen anyone speculating.
I have not either.
I have not.
I have not either.
So it wouldn't be interesting to see who they think.
But that's awesome.
That's who it is.
What was this stupid name?
The dad.
I should don't know.
I look it up.
I want to know.
Because that's the only person it could be.
Well, I think you nailed it.
Because it's not, it's not Strand.
We don't know where he is, right?
We know that Daniel is either part of the Hanna Dad group or he's working for Padre now.
They all bend down.
I mean, Daniel is a ruthless, you know, leader from the Santanians or whoever that he fought for down in Central America years ago.
So he's got no problem with,
with killing, although we were to believe earlier that he had some dementia coming on, right?
So is that cured now?
Really strange how that dementia is just kind of, I would just put it on pause.
Stephen Clark?
No.
No?
No, that's not him.
Now, Fear the Walking Dead.
Yeah, that's...
Madison's husband.
That is beginning of the show.
That is Madison's husband.
No, it's not.
That's not him.
I just looked it up and showed not him.
I'm telling you.
He was in Training Day.
His name is Cliff Curtis.
Cliff Curtis.
I'm not sure what his name is in the show.
All right.
We're just taking applause here because we're going to get his real name.
We'll edit this.
People are listening going, it's this.
It's his name.
It's his name.
I know.
I'm sorry.
I should have looked this up.
But I just came up with this theory.
But what is his name on the show?
Dang it.
The dad.
Oh, Travis.
His name is Travis.
Yes, Travis, thank you.
It's Travis.
I love it because we got Madison.
We got the mom.
Alicia and the kids.
Godre comes back in the last season.
The only reason that she is kept alive is because he can't kill her.
He doesn't want her to know who he is, but he can't kill her.
That's it.
That's exactly what it is.
You're welcome, by the way.
You're welcome.
You are welcome.
You are welcome.
You are welcome.
You know what?
I am all in on this theory.
It would suck if we're wrong.
I'm just saying now.
I love the fact, too, that, you know, Dwight, I'm sorry, D, as Sherry likes to call him.
She's always called him then.
This couple, I got to tell you, I think I'm with you, Jason, on the Dwight Sherry coupleness is agonizing.
Just agonizing.
Their reunion two seasons ago was one of the best scenes in the show because it had been built up for like three years.
years. It was. It was a really good scene. But then...
I know. I know it was. It was a really good scene. But
remembering the whole time that she is just on the run from D.
I mean, she wouldn't even want to be with him until he finally caught up with her.
It's like, okay, my gosh, you won't leave me alone. All right, I'll be with you.
Then they have a kid, and then they get on Padre.
And they break up again. And they live separately on Padre.
Okay, that's not their fault this time, but that's...
It is their fault. It's on Padre, but...
it is their fault they bent the knee to for the kid that they thought would be good and then all of a sudden they realize once they get to a train factory oh you know maybe we shouldn't bend the knee to padre
oh thank you you think i mean it's just a mess unbelievable and i'm i'm confused at what the what the future that padre is trying to give us
Right, we're raising these kids, we're taking these kids, and we're creating this fighter breed kids.
But what's the end game in the plan?
I really, I have no idea.
Like Sparta or something like that?
Yeah.
I guess.
I don't know.
Well, we'll figure, especially just like in the middle of that island and then they go, they go hunting sometimes for collecting or like there's a clinic that they were going to.
Like, I hope.
They've run into no one else who's tried to take them over.
They're out collecting kids in Louisiana.
Well, they've had little skirmishes of people trying to get their kids back.
We know that from when Madison first showed up.
Remember, like, they found a group of people where they were like, hey, we're trying to get our kids back.
They died.
There's no need to try to make sense of a fear of the walking dead plot because they all pretty much suck.
I think the best we can hope for is not to try and like think it through with any kind of normal rationality.
just to hope that they're within like
The Teddy plot was pretty consistent.
There's one or two good episodes.
Something like that.
Okay, wait.
The Teddy plot line was pretty consistent.
Who?
Teddy.
The crazy guy.
Yeah, Teddy.
The new guy.
The new guy who actually won.
You don't need to holler just because you like Teddy so much.
Oh, the coal leader?
Yes.
He was the best villain in this entire show.
That's, yeah, that's not a very high bar, though.
Brought to you by the people that brought you Metro Negan.
Petro Deegan was awesome.
Daddy was 10 times better than Metro Deegan.
Not about it.
Metro Negan was awesome, man.
That guy brought lawn chairs and RVs to the party, man.
Are you kidding me?
He's in the Hall of Fame.
He is in the Hall of Fame.
He is a good record right there, man.
And I don't know what now.
Morgan is loose out running around trying to,
he's going to be Morgan again, right?
He wouldn't say, you know, he failed.
He told Madison he failed and, you know, he can't rectify everything, but some of it he still can.
So maybe we get our good Morgan back now where he doesn't have to, you know, he still just starts killing everyone.
Well, no.
I'm sorry.
I, this cracks me.
Since we're winding this show down, I think it's good to have a reflection and look back, you know, on some of the amazing decisions by these showrunners.
Okay.
And it must have been hilarious that season, right?
You have like all the writers and producers and they're all sitting around a table and they're brainstorming these crazy bad guys.
And some dude stood up and was like, what if we have this guy?
And he's like in a silk shirt, you know, and he looks like he's 21 and a half.
And he's the bad guy.
And then Metro Negan was born.
It kind of spiral.
Well, it had been spiraling from there.
And he leads a group of campers.
They will not take no for an.
And they were the reason Madison was originally killed off.
That's the hilarious part.
They were the reason Madison was originally killed off.
Maybe that was Madison's original nemesis.
So if he did come back somehow magically from the dead, that would be a hell of a plot twist.
But I know Jason you didn't like him much because you thought he was too silly,
even though we agree that people would follow him if Teddy was real.
Teddy was the best villain in the show so far.
Yeah, I just I think my contention is that's a very low bar, but
Yes, absolutely
And he won because of the nurse
Well yeah, I mean he did he did do what he said he was going to do
No question about that
And then you know obviously that you know killed a bunch of people
And made a lot of a lot of the land wasteland but he did do what he was going to do
That's what's kind of agonizing of the show is yeah a cult leader and a cult
It's like a zombie cold is a very cool idea.
They just had a hard time, I think, really executing on it as typical fear of the walking dead.
This plot line, I don't know if I'm completely on board with yet.
This like child ninja training camp and all of our guys are jumping on board with it is just kind of hard to wrap my brain around.
Things were so bad when they when they got out of their boats, right?
They were starving and they needed a place to live so that when Padre,
corralled them, they bent the knee to Padre.
And it just seems like that goes against everything they were building for.
Yeah.
I guess, you know, if you're starving and you want to live and you want everybody to
live, you're going to do that.
But it just seems like they would do that.
Because we, because there's one character that is unaccounted for, and that is Strand.
Where the heck is he?
Who cares?
I don't want to see him again, to be honest.
You don't want to see Strand?
No. I'm tired of him.
I'm so tired of him.
Because he goes back and forth and he's good and he's bad and he tries to be now.
He was great as the bad guy after the Teddy arc.
But they didn't make him into the real bad guy.
No, they didn't, which sucks.
It was the, it was the, what did you call the Walker rapists?
Remember that?
Yeah.
Because they stole the nuke.
They sold the bomb.
Remember them?
Did you forget about them?
We got some gold moments in this podcast.
Yeah, we had some golden moments.
I forgot about the Walker Raeman.
That's some good stuff right there.
That is some good stuff.
I'd like to be in the writer's room for that.
I would.
Oh, wait, the writers are on strike.
Never mind.
I would like to have been in the writer's room for the Walker Rafaith.
And I love the, you know, the Metro Nagin talk.
That would have been good.
That would have been really good stuff.
Okay, so this episode we all enjoyed overall.
Overall, this episode was good.
Yeah, June pulled it off, I thought.
I thought she did a pretty good job pulling it off.
Still, you know, I'm torn.
You know, D brought up John and...
Well, yeah, technically speaking, June is the final dory that's alive in the show.
Yeah, and so, you know, they're going to, you know, he's with her.
And plus, Duight has a new, you know, well,
we all like Dwight.
And he has a new,
a new villain, right?
He's going to,
he will kill,
uh,
Padre bitch.
No question.
Uh,
yeah.
I mean,
yeah,
sorry,
his butt son.
He will,
he will kill her.
I mean,
even said it,
I will kill you.
And that's going to happen.
And the thing is,
it's still not,
it's not going to be good enough,
right?
I'm reminded of an old,
uh,
well,
I won't say,
the movie is like a hundred years old.
But it was,
the line is,
uh,
you will never,
you hurt that woman and you will never be dead enough.
And that's the way Dwight feels about Buzz saw now is that she will never be dead enough.
I mean, he will kill her, no question.
Someone on Twitter, name that movie, please.
That'll be a good.
It's with Billy Crystal.
I'll tease you right there.
It's an old Billy Crystal detective movie from 100 years ago.
Dang.
Yeah, I know.
His wife gets kidnapped.
I think I've seen that one.
You hurt that woman and you will never be dead enough.
I think I've watched that with you before.
It's very possible.
Anyway, that's enough.
All right, we're done.
Anyway, I enjoyed the episode overall, looking forward to it.
And I think this is what we've been lulled into with fear.
Like Max said, you know, we get a good episode.
And then now we're going to have to sit through a couple that aren't so good.
So let's hope that's not true.
This is the final season.
the first episode was okay
the second episode was good
let's just build on that shall we
let's just build on that
and hope that it gets better
please dear lord and we've given you a new
a new theory of who Padre is again
you're welcome
last thoughts Mr. Butchell
no I think yeah I just agreed
I think it was a good episode but with this show
that's pretty much all you can hope for
you know you're not going to get much of
plot. All you can hope for is episodes
like this one right here. So I think we'll get
probably a couple of them, few of them
hopefully within this season.
But hopefully that
means the last episode is really, really good.
Because this is the last season. It's kind of crazy.
Right, we have these six episodes
and then they break and we come back
for the final six. So it's still, it's almost like
fear it's never ending.
It's ending.
Never ending end. Yeah, no kidding.
Like Attack on Titan. Anybody who gets that
reference here, you're awesome.
But, yeah, I thought this episode was good.
You're right.
You're worried because fear does have that track record of, oh, we just had a really good episode.
Here's some okay to bad episodes.
And then another good one, and then rinse repeat.
Yeah, no kidding.
All right.
