Season 9, episode 11 of the Walking Dead titled Bounty, and that makes this talking walking dead.
Welcome to it, Talking Walking Dead with myself, Jason Butchrell and Maximus Fisher,
not myself being Jeff Fisher.
Hello.
So the IMDB said the Savage group led by Alpha confronts the hilltop in a harrowing attempt to retrieve her daughter.
A supply run for the kingdom turns into a dangerous quest.
I told you it was going to start with the kingdom.
I was so pissed
I was gonna go with the
with the Alpha and then go to the kingdom
And I was 100%
If you didn't even go to alpha at first
It started with the kingdom
I was I was all on board
To hate this episode
And I hated this episode
10 minutes into it
Until I was like
Okay wait a minute
I actually kind of like this episode now
But I was fully
I was just about to text you
I started 30 minutes into this
Because I didn't want to put up
With all the commercials
Which by the way I timed
There was an extra minute plus
of commercials per session per commercial section.
Right.
Okay.
There's usually 2.30 to 310 or something like this.
I have this time perfectly on my DVR because I DVR so much stuff.
There's over four minutes of commercials per.
Okay.
Anyway, just have to throw that out there.
It was just science.
I'm glad that AMC is making money.
I'm glad that AMC is making money.
We got more Jerry.
We got more Jerry.
So anyway, we did get a whole bunch of Jerry.
Let's back up for just a little bit.
I was on board with you the same feeling about the first, maybe more than 10 minutes,
maybe more than 10 minutes of, okay, I don't know.
And then I did kind of enjoy it.
My father-in-law who watches with us and, you know, he can't bring himself to be part
of the podcast for whatever reason, too good for it, I guess.
He kind of felt the way through the whole episode.
He didn't like it.
Yeah, he was just like, eh, it was all right.
But I did, there were several scenes that I did.
and joy.
I don't know how much, you know, we started out with, you know, with the kingdom and the
flashback with, with Jesus.
Yeah, this is what Maggie, that flashback was like maybe three years into that six-year time
jump, maybe.
Because that was when Carol's hair wasn't as long as it was and Maggie was still at
hilltop.
And Jerry said they were.
I was confused on the timeline, to be perfectly honest, because Jerry was talking about having
a kid.
and then later on he had like four kids.
Something like that.
I'm like, wait, what's going on here?
Yeah, but didn't you notice Carol's hair was shorter in that jump?
No, I did not.
It was shorter.
It was like down to here.
And her hair grows two and a half inches a year.
So it was four inches shorter.
Are you dumb?
I learned that when I learned how to count the rings in the middle of a tree.
It's very similar science.
I actually was a.
a little confused too.
Year to hear is different.
No, I know.
And I'm just teasing you, but I was a little confused with that as well.
And also, we still don't know.
That was also after, which was, I had to rethink that a little bit, right?
Because we did the, we did the, went back in time with the flashback, but it was also after
whatever happened to Mishone and Daryl and the, whatever badness happened with their,
with their scarring and everything, right?
With some war that happened.
It was after that because that's why they gave them the Bill of Rights, right?
Because Deshoun didn't want anything to do with it anymore.
I thought they were going to explain that.
I was hoping for that too.
I can't wait until they explain that.
I know.
I mean, I miss that.
We're going to get a full-length flashback episode, which I'm going to be interested in,
but it's going to piss me off at the same time.
You know what I mean?
It's like I wanted to hear from Negan.
I wanted to see a huge, you know, big climactic scene with Alpha.
But we didn't get that.
No, we did not.
Well, I wasn't expecting a battle because you guys might have, but I wasn't because I read the comics and there was no battle during that scene.
But if you're going to like make an entire episode on one scene that maybe takes 30 minutes, I expect to see a little bit more action.
We still saw some.
So there were still some good scenes.
Like the cornfield scene was really good.
That was great.
That was dope.
It was great.
But it just kind of like ended like, okay, in a prisoner change swap and it's over.
Right.
And I also, another thing that kind of confused me a little bit,
and I'm still trying to figure out was the theater part of the past or part of today?
Because they're getting ready, you know, all this time they're getting ready for the fair.
Right?
So they've been getting ready for the fair for, I mean, look, if it takes you that long to get a fair, find a new boss.
That's what was confusing.
They're still talking about the fair to this day.
So like this was what, three years ago?
So they're, when we did the flashback with,
when Jesus was still alive and he got the bill of rights or whatever, the new Constitution,
then it was like Max said, according to hair length, three years.
And but when we went to the theater to get the, to get the light bulb and the, you know,
the light sign, was that today or was that back?
That was back.
No, that was today.
What?
How could it be?
Because her hair was so long?
That and also they, no, here's the thing too.
that when they said their previous projector bulb had burned out five years ago.
Carol knew about that at the time.
Okay, wait, wait.
So the first flashback scene was Jerry and the other, and Carol and the king and the king,
meeting up with Jesus and Tara.
Yeah, and that was the only flashback scene.
All the others is what's happening today.
Yes.
Okay, so what did we learn from that flashback scene?
Oh, he was just bringing him the charter?
The charter, right, the charter.
and the explanation of, we learned that, you know, again,
that Michelle didn't want to have anything to do with it, right?
But they're still Tara and the king,
and even a little bit of Carol,
trying to hold on to bringing everyone together.
See, now, they didn't explain that well enough
because I thought that we were all on that same timeline
the entire night.
I was thinking that.
And that's why I was so confusing.
The kingdom was on that timeline?
Or the entire show.
Through that entire episode.
Oh, see.
the flashback, it was all from that one time fine.
I was good with the back and forth far as Alpha and the hilltop, but I thought that the kingdom was all flashback.
That's what it was confusing.
I'm with you.
Same thing.
Yeah, yeah.
That's what I'm saying.
But, you know, Max, you're probably right.
I mean, I don't doubt that.
And we also saw some secret sign.
Did you see the sign when they came out of the theater?
I wasn't asked Max.
I thought you would know.
I thought you too.
Nope.
So it's not in the comics
I read the comics
If it's not in the comics
How am I supposed to know about it?
So it must be
Probably it must be a new thing for the show, yeah
You think it's a whisperer thing?
I don't think it's a whisperer thing
The whispers would use
They don't use the signs in cities, right?
So they're going to bring another group?
No, no, you're right
That makes sense they wouldn't be in cities
The whispers, yeah, they're out in the jungle
saying this is our land.
We're animals.
I don't know.
I wonder if they're setting up.
up a new world order uh...
yeah the commonwealth
oh maybe
yeah maybe
because they all go to the
commonwealth right in the
in the comic books
so but in the comic books
they don't have
they don't have the new world order sign
I don't think so now
wait a minute you don't think so
yes or no
come on expert
no
good answer
good answer
and you're right
the uh the uh the uh the cornfield scene with a deaf lady of the baby was great that was great yeah it was really good and in the show that airs after uh walking dead they showed the uh the real baby and the fake baby that they use
and the fake baby is really scary it's got like one arm that moves and one leg it's really scary no that was good
see that's why i i ended up enjoying the episode because they like the the fight inside the theater was good all that
stuff I liked.
Yeah, that was all right.
What did you think?
Oh, the way they used music as well.
Oh, yeah, that was good.
Like there were time, even during the flashback scenes when I was, I was annoyed because
I wanted to see Negan or I wanted to see the other stuff.
I did too.
But then Jerry had some of the best scenes that he's had in a long time.
Like, remember when the music first started up and he like, and he looks at
Carol and winks at her and stuff like that?
I was like, oh, man, this is why I love this guy.
But are they not setting him out to die?
I know.
I know.
I felt that's so much.
I don't know.
I feel like, uh, I feel like he's a cheap star for them.
Oh, dude.
I feel like he's a cheap star for them.
So, like, we talk about all the commercials to make payments and AMC making a lot of money.
But I feel like Jerry is, you know, lower end pay scale for the dead.
It's kind of like.
So why kill him?
It's kind of like when a football team drafts a seventh round draft pick and they end up being a good player later.
Why kill him?
You've still got three or four more years to go.
Right, right.
There's no reason to trade them.
We struck gold.
There's no reason to talk about a new contract.
Totally.
You still have to work them for another three years.
just let it go.
But why would they,
but look at the emotional stuff
they're putting on him.
I know.
The family.
The baby, exactly.
The family with,
he's starting,
he's seeing a future.
He's got,
you know,
he's in love.
He's having children.
He's seeing a future
with the kingdom
and the people around him.
Yep.
I mean,
all of it is setting up for a big death.
He's so dead.
Now here's the thing.
Do you expect he'll die a different way
or do you think he'll have his head?
head on the pike.
I don't know.
That'd probably be the most...
Right.
That'd probably be the big one.
That makes total sense.
Go into battle and then you see, oh, no, did Jerry just die at the end of the show is his head on the pipe?
They are so setting us up for that.
Yeah.
Okay, so if our theories are correct, I could count three people whose head would be on the pike then.
Rosita?
Good.
The King and Jerry.
Oh, and don't forget about dog.
Don't forget about it.
He's still alive.
I know.
I know Daryl was using him last night.
All I got to do his whistle for him, dog is right there, baby.
Right there from the band.
Looking good.
That's going to be so depressing.
Can we say that even, I don't care if his head is on a pike or just rolling down a little
embunkment, the side of the road.
An embunkment?
What exactly is an embunkment?
It's an embunkment.
That's like a hill.
It's like a hill that made a concrete.
It's similar to an embankment, but not.
Something like that.
But it's not that.
No, it's not that.
In the new world, it's an in buckling.
Hank.
I want Hank to hang.
I want Hank rolling down the abutment, okay?
I want that to happen now.
Anyway, what were you saying?
Oh, man.
I just want it to happen.
I'm sorry.
I just do.
Oh, crap.
I can't.
We did see a sneak peek for next week
that we finally get to see beta
as part of the whisper's next week.
Yeah, beta next week.
Finally.
Yeah, that'll be really good.
I know I'm looking forward to that.
We didn't see Negan at all.
How do you keep that long of time frame
before you show him again?
It's been two episodes actually.
Come on.
No, here's the thing.
In the comics, it's a longer wait.
Like, he doesn't show up this early in the comics.
Show up later.
It don't matter.
Like, there's like, that's why I'm saying this style does great for comics, does not do good for television.
Yeah, we talked about that, right.
Yeah.
Because TV, we need to speed up some of the, even if we, even if we back up the progress, we need to at least show them so that the people on TV go, oh, there he is.
Yeah.
Still, we know that he's out there instead of, well, is there someone new or isn't there?
See, this is why I think they've taken a hit lately.
And that's all the news that was all the rage last week.
I know.
I want to talk to you about that, too, because it was all the rage.
But I do want to talk a little bit about where we're headed as far as Daryl and the kingdom.
And you saw that on the new constitution they had Oceanside and Alexandria.
Like we haven't been in Alexandria now for.
Since Negan.
Yeah.
Right. I mean, since he's decided to go back, right?
And we haven't seen Michelle.
We've been, the kingdom was, you know, they're out and about looking for, you know, trying to, you know, find a projector bulb.
That's actually, that was actually fun to watch him, trying to get the projector.
Yeah, it was good.
Yeah.
No, I like that.
That's what I'm saying.
Like, the way they're doing the show, I don't like.
But then they add in these, like, cool scenes that make you remember why you like this show.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
And you see that.
You see how what a bad evil person, Alpha is for the Whispers?
I mean, she's just...
The baby scene really kind of made that pretty clear.
The baby scene, and I thought that she was going to beat her daughter up even more than she did.
Yeah, well, she probably does afterwards.
Right.
But, I mean, that whole line about, you call me Alpha like everybody else and tell me Mom.
That was great.
It was great.
Alpha just looks at that one, at the Whisperer Mom.
She just looks at her.
Yeah.
And they go with it, right?
I mean, they're with it.
That's what happens when you start putting people's skin faces over your own face, man.
What goes to hell?
To quote to Daryl, the world is just shit sometimes.
Yeah.
Was that a swear on here?
Yeah, it was, but that's just the quote from the movie.
Get over it.
We also had Enid in this episode.
She's, Enid's, she's, yeah, I like that character.
Yeah, it is coming around.
She's looking pretty good.
She's growing into an adult.
And she also is a ways, and don't even start with me because she's still a traitor.
She's still a traitor.
This whole thing as a whole.
She's got everybody thinking that she's part of their deal.
It's been six years.
I know.
I think they might have hinted at that again.
They were like, the things you're willing to do.
You know, I just figured I had to survive somehow.
Thank you.
She brought up, she saw her parents get killed.
They're winking at it.
I know.
I'm telling you, this is all the time that she thinks she's out of it.
Right?
She thinks she's every time you think you're out, they pull you back in.
Oh, yeah.
Because Negan's going to pull her back in.
Oh, she's going to watch when Negan shows up again.
She's going to be like, oh, crap.
Thank you.
Something's coming.
Thank you.
All right.
So what Jason was hinting at is there was a big, a couple of big stories this past week.
The first one started with actor James Woods, as he tweeted,
now that Walking Dead has become an all-chick zombie series,
you realize they should have spent whatever it took to keep Andrew Licking,
hashtag estrogen fest.
So Michael Kudlow?
Kudlets?
Kudlets.
What is it?
Kudlitz.
Kudlitz.
Michael in Buckman?
No, it is not.
He retweets it with a quote.
Actually, Andrew left to spend time with his kids and family.
money was not an issue.
You're a terrific actor, James, and I've admired your talent for years,
but sometimes you just talk out of your ass.
Think before you tweet.
Who is that?
Michael Cuddlets.
Abraham.
Oh.
And Jeffrey Dean Morgan quotes that, saying,
MC cutting through the bullshit.
He's actually his character.
That's so hilarious.
Yes, he is.
Really?
Yes, he is.
Now, what Jason, what they're all referring to is the big news that talked about
Sunday's episode last Sundays,
not this episode, episode 10, had the smallest total audience and lowest adults 18 to 49 in the series history.
But that headline, that is actually true in the series history.
But the TV ratings, Walking Dead hits all-time lows.
That's kind of misleading because while that's true, when you actually look at some of the numbers and start breaking it down a little bit,
it talks about the previous low was the second ever episode in November 2010.
Okay.
And then it also, the series will, right now, the series still is the top ranked cable show.
All right.
So even though they have the lowest numbers they've ever had, they still are the top ranked cable show.
That doesn't count.
Still kicking everybody else's butt.
That doesn't count sports, of course.
Yeah.
Now, of course, then that goes into a little bit farther because,
This is the same-day numbers.
All right.
So 18 for season 9, same-day numbers are down 40%.
Now, you think about that, the same-day numbers.
Now, if you go back to same-day numbers for season 7, they're down 60%.
However, okay?
So once you get the delayed viewing numbers, those numbers come way back up.
And let's not forget the last two years, AMC has been pushing their app.
They want people to watch it on their app and they get early episodes on their app.
They want people to watch so you're downloading the app and you're paying for the app to get special scenes and get the episodes.
So at AMC, I don't think has released any of those numbers on who's on their app.
So while they're still number one, the rest of these numbers are still strong for AMC and it's still strong for the show because they've got people subscribing to their app and paying for that.
Yeah.
So they're getting money from both ends now.
I don't.
The way people, everyone's cutting the cord nowadays.
They're not watching traditionally.
Right.
And it also talked about in here where it talked about
they were talking about the NBA All-Star Game
was also down year to year.
I mean, that goes into what you were just about to say
that people aren't watching the way that they used to.
I mean, think about all the different ways you can watch.
You can watch off the app, which how you pointed out,
it was a very aggressive campaign for people to subscribe to that service.
Yes, it was.
And the only way you can take advantage of that is to do it via
a cut the cord method over an app or online or whatever.
That's the only way you can watch it that way.
Right.
But I'd tell you what, diehard's like us, I almost paid for that because I wanted to watch
the premiere.
Almost.
I came close.
But there are a ton of people.
Really close.
I'm not sure there's a ton of people that did.
Yes, absolutely.
And on top of which, I don't know if they're getting, you know, they might be getting
bonus material, which, if that's the case, I may have to pull the plug on that bad
boy anyway, just to see it, you know, just to get the bonus material.
I don't do you have it do you have regular cable I do I cut the cord finally I watch it off of I get I get the YouTube
YouTube TV.
Yeah.
And I watch it off that.
We finally, we cut the court a few years ago and then we had to get it back due to his job.
Well, we got it back because the cable company broke into my house.
And they said, hey, we're putting it back in.
Yeah, I'm sure.
There's nothing you can do about it.
Move the children out of the way.
Get out of the way.
These boxes have got to go back in.
That's the way it is.
And I was like, okay, okay.
It's interesting.
It doesn't sound like it should be able to do that.
I know.
It doesn't sound like it.
I know, but that's what happened.
I couldn't stop them.
We did cut the court.
And it was fascinating.
that one of the reasons that I got it back,
one of the reasons was because I bought the season ticket from Amazon for Walking Dead,
but I couldn't watch it live.
When I cut the court, I couldn't watch it live.
Now I could cut the court and watch it live on the app, on AMC's app,
or you watch it live on YouTube, right?
Yeah.
And so that was one of the reasons that I got the cable back
because I bought the package on Amazon,
and they down like the show airs 9 p.m. Eastern and Amazon
uploaded the shows about 2 or 3 a.m. in the morning.
So I had to wait, you know, I had to wait to see it.
So I used to just, but, but.
But there are options that were you not to do that.
I know.
And the other reason that I got it back was live sporting events.
But there's also right now, that was three or four years ago, right?
So now we've reached a point where I believe we could.
I could cut the cord and still get a lot of us.
YouTube TV, baby.
All the local channels, all the live sports, AMC, everything is on there.
And Unlimited DVR.
Hi, Jason Betrell here for YouTube TV.
If you want to throw some sponsor at me, you know, a little cash, I'll keep pimping it.
Every podcast episode.
So this episode started off a little bit slow, worked into, I think for the fans,
it turned into a show worth watching, although I think we do need to pick up the pace a little bit.
Yeah.
We're three episodes into this last half of season nine.
And I say, let's pick up, let's start the engines.
Dude, like literally the entire episode was a 30-minute encounter in like real-life time.
Yeah.
That was the entire episode going back and forth between flashbacks.
Yeah.
So think about...
The only flashback was the one in the beginning.
Right.
Yeah.
Okay.
Okay, I'll give you that, but we still kept going back to the kingdom.
I'm fine with you saying going back and forth, but the only flashback we actually had was the one at the beginning.
But do you know that how?
I love the literalness of Max.
You can't stray.
You know that how?
That's the Max version.
No, it is not.
No, it's not.
It's the length of her hair.
It was live.
It was six years.
So the flashback and going back and forth to the present day kingdom.
That was literally the entire episode.
But think about what they'll do to do that again.
We'll probably have a full-length flashback on what happened back with the scars.
I have a theory.
I hope so.
That's at least one episode.
Go ahead.
I have a theory.
It might have been Alexandria Civil War after Rick died or died.
Okay.
Do you have any theories on it?
It's mine.
But it would also include the other communities, wouldn't it?
I said Alexandria Civil War.
So only Alexandria would be part of that civil war within Alexandria.
I know, but that wouldn't explain, like, why Maggie completely wouldn't let Alexandria into the hilltop anymore.
You know what I mean?
Or like why Carol was so pissed off with Alexandria.
You know, like, for some reason, it, like, affected everyone.
It sure did.
And, and Darrell and Michone ended up with, you know, with baby scars, right?
No, D-section scars.
The D-section.
So they ended up with that.
So it would be fascinating to see that.
Plus, we've got to find out, like, we spent, we still, you know, the mention of Oceanside, we, we don't, we haven't seen any of that.
We haven't seen very little of Alexandria and, uh, and Mishone and Nigan.
And we have, uh, we still, we spent all this time at, uh, uh, hillside, but, you know.
Hillside?
Hillside.
Yeah, it's just, it's just down the embunkment from a hilltop.
Oh, whatever.
Same thing.
It's hillside, hilltop, whatever.
That's how sick I am of that place.
I want Hank to die.
That's when you see Hank traversing the embunkment between hillside and the top.
You know, we didn't talk about, we didn't talk that much about Henry and Lydia.
Or Hank and Lydia.
That's, well, that's because I just want him dead.
I just want Hank gone.
He's agonizing.
And you know what?
He's not blood.
Carol and the king are raised him because they felt bad about what happened to his parents.
And his brother.
And he's not, whatever.
He's not blood.
Lose him.
It's over.
Have a nice day.
We'll find another.
kid. You know what? We've got a new baby at
Hilltop.
And he's got plenty of...
Jerry's got three kids that need to be raised.
He's got... Yeah, he had like a litter.
I was like, dang, dude. Jerry's
popping him out left and right, man.
He goes home. They're just popping kids
out left and right, so they've got a new family
to raise. There's a new sheriff in town. It's Jerry's
kids. So Hank can go.
