Season 9, episode 13 of the Walking Dead, titled Choke Point.
And that makes this Talking Walking Dead.
Welcome to it, Talking Walking Dead with myself, Jason Buttrill and Maximus Fisher.
The IMDB description, Daryl's daring rescue mission forces Alpha to unleash a group of her own to retrieve what belongs to her.
Even if the price is paid in blood.
And the kingdom's plans to reunite the communities are put in jeopardy.
I enjoyed many parts of last night's episode.
Very solid.
In fact, this is two weeks in a row that probably have been two of the best episodes of the season,
I would probably say.
Agreed.
Agreed.
Highly entertaining.
People that I know that have sworn off of Walking Dead, they didn't want to watch it anymore.
They came back for this season, and they saw, they caught up to last night, and they were like,
oh my gosh.
Like, yeah.
Wow.
Been missing something.
Excellent.
Yeah.
It's great.
It's good to hear because, you know, we've talked a lot about the numbers and how
the numbers have changed and many people think they've dropped, but I tend to think that they
have, you know, obviously they have dropped, but I tend to think they haven't dropped as much as
what a lot of people say.
But of course they've dropped some.
Like impossible to maintain that.
Like absolutely impossible.
Absolutely they have.
And they've, you know, we've got some, we've got a couple of, you know, a couple of nice new
characters in this, in this season that have really added to the show.
you know you have alpha and you have beta and you have Lydia and you have now you have the
high women okay so can we can we start there because that's basically where it started can we
start with the high women yeah like so I was like really confused and why they were
introducing these people I mean too I was like are they just stalling like why even add this
element of the story in it made no sense to me it's like I don't care like if you need filler
space. Let's go find out what Negan's
doing. Or something like that. You've got
plenty of people we're curious about. Negan's in a cell.
Sure, but him talking to Judith
is a lot more entertaining than another
random savior-like group out there.
These guys were more like cowboy
mercenaries than the saviors.
Whatever. It was pointlessly the way you want to describe it.
It was, and I enjoyed the
reading of the letter
in the auditorium
with the king and queen.
And they read
the letter and they said that they thought it
was this particular group of the, of Dagan's group.
And Carol's like, it's not them.
Yeah.
I won't tell you how I know that.
It's not them.
I burned them.
It's not them.
Don't worry about them.
Moving on.
The fair.
It was fantastic.
She was like that.
No, it's not them.
That was really good.
So great.
But yeah, I was, I don't know.
I was like, I totally was on board with thinking that they were just a filler and,
okay, crap, let's just throw another plot point so people don't get bored.
But then I'm like, they've got to have some kind of further meaning later on down the line.
Like maybe they go turncoat and go against the kingdom since they've got this access.
Possible.
Certainly is possible.
Because when the king goes, you get access to the kingdom.
You know what I mean?
I immediately thought that's exactly what they want is to see inside.
And there was that one scene where the main homeboy is just like looking around.
Like at first you're thinking, oh, he's like looking around in all.
Like, you know, I can't believe either that or he's doing surveillance.
Right.
Either way.
Yeah.
I've felt the surveillance of I'm in.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All I had to do was kill a few walkers and move a tree and I'm in.
Right.
Oh, okay.
And he also gets to watch a movie.
Yeah, that was kind of funny.
I did enjoy that.
That was kind of funny.
And that was Carol's deal, right?
Well, let's talk to him first.
Let's talk.
If they don't listen, then we'll kill him.
Okay.
Come on.
I love that.
That's pillow talk and then we'll kill them.
Don't worry about it.
Come on, man.
The original crew would have just taken this group out and been done with it and we wouldn't
have to even worry about it.
Right.
They grow stupider the further they go.
And at this point in time, as we've progressed, I mean, everybody that's survived
this long has got to be some kind of badass, right?
Yeah.
Or they're protected by somebody that's a badass?
No question.
And they're providing some service.
You're not just hanging around doing nothing, right,
unless you're the violin boy.
That's it.
If you're the violin boy, you're just hanging around doing nothing.
But you have to have survived some, right?
We've talked about it a lot where at this point,
you've got to have done something.
Everyone's killed, everyone's moved,
everyone's done bad things.
It's just the way it is.
So it's surprising to me that we still think that we,
you know, I know that we're thinking about rebuilding the world and everything,
but if they've already threatened you, we're just going to kill them.
Yeah.
And that's where we missed with the beta battle.
And that was fun to watch, the Darrell in the beta fight and the walkers in the building with the deaf chick building.
And that was fun to watch.
And it was fun to be a part of, you know, except for Hank and Lydia.
But at that point, I really, this was one of the only few times at that point I really missed Rick.
Oh, yeah.
That whole beta thing, because Rick would have, I mean, this hole up in the building will run high.
Look, just, I'm going to put my-
I'm going to put my gun to Beta's head and I'm going to kill him.
It was good about it.
Beta would have given Rick a hard time.
How do you not understand this?
Sure, he would have given Rick, but we know who would have won.
Thank you.
Straight up.
In fact, in the comics, I think they've won't, they never really, they met, but they never really fought in the comics.
Then again, in the comics, Rick is kind of a cripple, but.
Right. I mean, he's, okay, no question. And again, we've already departed comic land for the most part, right? We're living. We're walking, you know, two different worlds. And before you ask, no, the highwaymen are not in the comics.
Wow. So they've issued, so that, the whole thing is completely different.
See? So why do we even bring them in?
It's got to be something in the future. It's either, it's either they just, they felt like they needed some more filler time because they didn't want to have another episode where they had to pay it another big actor.
and I'm telling you, that's guiding everything.
It's sheer feels that way, doesn't it?
Carl, a friend of mine, I didn't read this, but he said that there was all the public statements on the, what's the, do you know the Carl actor?
What's his name?
Chandler Wrigs.
Chandler Wrigs.
So they had all these public statements like, oh, I want to go to college, all this stuff.
But apparently, and look this up, don't take my word as gospel here, but apparently his dad took to Facebook.
Oh, yeah, well, that was the original thing.
Yeah.
And was livid.
Yeah.
And then he took that.
Yeah, right away.
Okay, so yeah.
So that pretty much, to me, that says it all.
Because in that Facebook post, he talked about, in that Facebook post, he talked about
how they had talked to him about the future and how they had just bought a house in Georgia
and how they were talking about, you know, they were actually planning on, you know,
milking the walking dead system to the end.
Yeah.
You know, that was the deal.
And then, uh,
Chandler, come on in.
I want to talk to you for a little bit.
You're budget's getting a little tight, bro.
You're 17 right now and you're on a child actor contract.
You're turning 18 soon and we have to bump that up.
I know we talk to you about, I know we talked to you a little bit about it really about moving out.
This, you're out.
And so, you know, think of it this way.
You can work on your education and you can work on your acting ability.
Now, he has since said, I read an article not long with him.
He still played along nicely with them because he's in the new show.
a million things or a million little things
or whatever it is on one of the shows
my wife watches that I'm forced to watch
from time to time. But he's in that show
and he just started becoming
in that series his last three or four episodes
and he
came along with saying that his acting
the last couple years he was lazy
and didn't really work on his acting
in Walking Dead and that
he was
he was just lazy and didn't really
didn't work on it much.
And so he's had some time to really think and hopefully this has moved on.
Well, that doesn't sound like going to school.
Right.
Okay, to me, that sounds like, yeah, I'm still going to school, but I should have been.
I'm still working on my craft.
Yeah.
So working on my craft.
And let's not pretend like other actors haven't done the same and still done their stuff.
No, no question.
Like the hot Harry Potter chick.
Right.
She went to some big time prestigious school, continue to act.
Right.
I mean, come on, man.
Like, I guarantee you the reason why he's playing nice is it was some kind of settlement
agreement. That's why dad
shut the heck up. Right. And he's
still getting, you know, whatever kind of deal
they had in, you know,
whatever back episodes. I don't know what the, I don't know what the
syndication deal is or any of the syndication rights
or any of that. That was a part of it. It has to be.
Has to be. Back to the show.
But no, but the point is
when we went off on that tangent, the point
was, is that they're doing a lot of things based off of a tight
checkbook. So they're really like keeping things,
they're doing things differently because they just don't have the
They don't want to spend it.
I think all the big actors are going to be pretty much saved for at least season 10, especially
Negan, because at least in season 10, which is continuing the Whisper arc, around the second
half of the Whisper arc, Neegan's on almost everything.
So if they at least follow that aspect, they'll say they're saving Negan for season 10.
Right.
Well, and that meant, you know, look, and Michelle's gone then.
Yeah.
So there's some money.
the bank.
Which pays for some more Negan episodes, right?
Maybe that's some, maybe.
There's no way you could resign that chick, Michone.
I can't remember any of their names.
But there's no way you could resign her at this point because she's, she's blowing up.
She's doing all kinds of stuff.
Right.
She's making millions in movies.
She's a Marvel superhero for crying out loud now.
And that, I mean, that system is good for another 10 years, right?
Yeah.
Right.
So she's coming off an already season, already a television series that was she was in for, what,
six or seven years
making, you know, whatever
she makes and believing that she needs
to be making more. And then
then she's in this. There's no way they pay her.
There's no way. They can't. Yeah.
Now, according to
Beta, he was being
interviewed on the show that follows
the Walking Dead last night.
And he
made a big deal about
Rick being
on set, his
first days on set.
Beda's first days, which I found fascinating, which leads me almost back to the Carl thing,
because, you know, Mr. I got to be with my family.
Mr. I got, I can't, you know, I'm working too much.
I'm just going to show up and be on set for a few days and hang out.
Shut up.
Shut up.
And here's the thing we at least know pretty much back now is Andy Lincoln didn't leave for money
or because of the money he left to spend time with his family,
not AMC's checkbook.
So that just makes you even more mad.
He was AMC's checkbook.
He just left so that they found a new revenue stream in the movies,
but they're not paying them out of the Walking Dead fund, right?
I don't know why, but every time I picture you watching this stuff
or figuring this stuff out, I hear you say,
oh, that's the reason why you left the Walking Dead?
No, it is not!
Is it? Is it? No, it's not. Pause that. Pause that right now. I've got to rant for a couple of minutes.
Ryan Hurst.
Right in the middle of a scene. Pause it. Shut up.
Ryan, apparently, apparently Ryan Hurst, he said, he said, he was also awestruck by, apparently he had a, for a while. Apparently, Ryan Hurst had a crush on Melissa McBride, the girl who plays a Carol.
Oh, yeah.
And then he said he didn't get to meet her until during filming.
So he met her when he was all in beta, beta costume.
And then he was just in normal beta.
He was like, hello.
Hi, really big fan.
Really big fan.
Nice to meet you.
It's just funny to think about beta, you know, this big man with his beta outfit.
Hey, how you doing?
Really big fan.
Nice to meet you.
That's what's interesting, though, with this show, though, is as they're bringing in
all these different actors.
Like, everyone's kind of growing up watching this show.
Yeah.
So, like, you instantly would turn into a fan.
I mean, come on.
Oh, of course.
And look, Brian Hurst, I mean, he's been in a couple of big shows that were huge, right?
I mean, he's a fairly good, a well-known star.
Yeah.
And so he's, you know, he's already entrenched a little bit.
And then, you know, you become a fan of these other shows.
And then now you're going to be a part of them.
I mean, that's really cool.
He talked, that's another thing.
He talked about how Rick came along and he taught me how to play bat gammon and told me where to eat, where to stay in time.
I'm out of screen.
You're right.
I told Max.
that thing. No. No, it is
not. I don't want to hear it. That's
ridiculous. That whole
red dad just ticked me up. I'll tell you another thing
that ticked me. How long as we're on things that ticked me off
was the preview, I know we're supposed to be talking about
this week's show, but this, the preview of next
week's show, I'm ready to burn it down.
It really ticked me up. Did you see
the preview? Because at the end
of this episode, as I tie it together for you,
Darrell and his
group, you know, deaf chick
and Lydia and Hank
and dog. He survived this
episode. Yeah, he did. He did. Dog still, I thought for sure he was going down too.
When she let, when Darrell had him in the, in the closet with, with dog and Lydia in the closet.
And then Lydia couldn't take it and was getting out. I was like, there you go.
Dog's gone now. This is it. But he saved the day.
One more episode. He helped. I know. I know. And on top of that, I'm going to say, paused for what I was angry about.
But I do want to say, you're welcome to all the other fans out there of the show that,
follows Walking Dead.
Another show that just talks about Walking Dead like this one.
They have a new T-shirt out that says,
if dog dies, we riot.
You're welcome.
Was that yours?
You're welcome.
That's from this show.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
It's on the Walking Dead.
Absolutely more evidence.
That shirt is on AMC's shop website.
You're welcome.
If Dog.
dies, we riot. And I just want to say, you don't have to send me any money, AMCIA. Be nice of you.
I don't know. At this point, they should start paying us and stuff.
I mean, we basically saved fear. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Maybe, I mean, some people still thought fear was the better show.
Those people have all been killed. There are a lot of stupid people. They're on a government
watch list right now. Okay, so now back to the preview. So this group, Darrell's group,
it says at the end of the episode, they're going to go to Alexandria, right?
It's the closest place.
They can go there and heal up Hank and, you know,
get, lick their wounds and then they can figure out what they're going to do.
So they give you the preview of next week.
And Daryl is at the gate of Alexandria.
And you see, you hear Daryl's at the gate.
Okay.
To Michelle, hey, open up this phone.
Open up this gate.
Maybe you didn't freaking hear me.
You don't know who?
I mean, am I wearing a mask?
You don't know who I am?
It doesn't matter who I have with me.
You open up this gate.
You know what?
I'm Daryl.
So then on top of it, then they bring Mishone to the gate.
She goes up on the ledge and looks over and goes, who is that with you?
I don't care.
Daryl is bringing her in.
And it's a little girl for crying out loud.
I don't care.
Mishone knows who it is, but remember she interrogated.
I don't care.
That gate should have already been open.
They already should have been inside.
That's a problem.
She's acting stupid.
That's exactly right.
And on top of which they're already setting.
up her departure so get the hell out yeah get out you just time for to leave that was an episode of
what grinds my gears by peter griffin now we're getting ready for the uh let's move back on to the
episode uh it's fine episode 13 of the walking dead chunk point uh it was uh it was interesting to see
how they are getting the um uh how much they're weighing on the fair was
The Fair, a big deal in the comic books, too?
Yes.
Okay, so, and then what happened, give us a brief recap of what happened at the Fair in the comic books.
Well, at the fair, it was a big culmination of the communities, like it's going to be in the show,
at least that's from what we know of.
And in the comics, you had people from, you know, Alexandria, Hilltop, Kingdom, pretty much every place we knew that was still alive.
Okay?
Everyone was there talking, having fun.
And in the comics at least you see this girl walking around the wig with hair, and we find it later, it's alpha.
And she's sniping people, pretty much.
And there was no contention between any of the communities on this fair.
Like everyone was in agreement that we should do this.
That's a good idea.
It's so weird.
They're doing this.
Really weird.
I mean, there was worry that something would hit.
Rick was worried a little bit like something might happen, but everyone has a small word like, okay, what can happen?
okay, what can happen?
Well, sure, but I'm sure that they had set up security around the kingdom
to try to avert anything that would happen,
unlike the whisperers did in their little camp that Daryl ended quickly.
So I still am amazed that they just killed them with,
Daryl just killed them with their own world of walkers instead of they didn't have
anybody watching their camp at all last week.
It was just weird.
Yeah.
But, so, I mean, the big matchup is,
is coming, right?
I mean, we are building up to that
because we've got three shows left.
Wow.
I know.
Crazy.
The season's been going by fast.
It sure has.
Three shows left, and so we have,
you know, next week we'll still be building up for the fair.
Maybe we may or may not have,
we didn't see, we saw very little of hilltop
except for their little journey, right,
on their way, who was going to the fair
with Tara and,
You know, the new baby.
And that's when the Calvary rode in as the highwayman to save them with the tree blocking.
That was an okay scene.
Like with the highwayman riding in.
Yeah.
I mean, that was fun.
And look, they're the ones that put the tree down.
So they came and fixed the tree that they put down, right?
I mean, that was their deal.
They were going to block all access in their grammatically, in their grammatically perfect letter to the king and the queen.
And I did love the king and the queen.
You know, she hate Carol always, you know,
makes it saying she doesn't like to be called queen,
but when everybody calls her queen, she still answers.
Yeah, don't call me queen.
But queen, all right, I'll answer,
because I'm Carol and I'm badass.
And Tara looked like also, it looked like that I thought Tara was,
you know, Tara is part of our LGBTQIA LMNOP people
on the Walking Dead.
And when her and Highwaymen caught eye to eye.
leader of the highwayman.
Yeah, caught eye to eye out there on the road.
I thought a little walking dead business was going to happen.
Yeah.
That's what you were thinking?
Yeah.
Oh, my gosh.
I thought you were thinking that with Hank and Lydia in the building.
Oh, and I knew Daryl was going to stop that because Daryl was just letting him build up to get to the point.
Hank had already was ready to go.
And he was just waiting for that little peck on the cheek.
All right, let's go.
He did the old college dorm block.
There's no doubt about that.
there's no doubt about that. He's just waiting
for a little bit of, all right, let's go. That's totally what I'd have said if I'd have been
Hank. You know, would have call him a something blocker. Yes, absolutely. Dude,
what, come on. Dude, give us a couple of minutes.
Thank you very much.
But you have to admit, that was actually... What perfect timing!
That was a cool scene with Connie and
Daryl where they're in the building
and there's like the whole stash Connie had put there.
Who's Connie?
Oh, that's Jetchick.
You were like Rain Man, with the names.
He most definitely is.
Man, you know them all.
He most definitely is, yeah.
That's good.
They're all of Magnus Group.
Magny, Connie, Kelly, Louie, and you...
We didn't ask you to do that.
Move on.
When we need them, we expect them.
Until then, don't worry about it.
Okay.
This is a Jeopardy.
That's what I have you here for, I love you.
It was, you know, the Deft Chick building,
and everything was blocked off.
She was all, you know, that was her main ground already.
And I realized, for some,
I don't know why I didn't think that she was deaf in real life,
but she is.
Oh, I saw that,
I saw the opening part of the talk show afterwards.
Yeah, that completely floored me.
I don't know why, I don't know why that threw me.
It was so strange.
We knew that already.
Did we?
Yes, the first episode they showed up in the,
she was on the show that came on after a few episodes back,
and we already knew she was deaf.
I don't remember that.
I don't either.
I don't usually watch it.
Did they have the fake signer guy and everything?
Yes.
Chris Hardway goes, he goes, yeah, and we got her translator.
And I was like, does she speak Spanish or something?
I was like, what?
I was like, translator.
Most of us could understand Zimbabwe.
Go ahead.
I don't remember her being out there the first time.
Seriously.
Yeah, she was.
I got to stop drinking.
Hey, you do.
So anyway, we've got the, we got dogs still barking, which is good.
We have three shows left.
I'm looking forward to it.
Yeah, we didn't talk much about the beta and Darrell fight, which was the big thing.
It was the big thing.
And it was, it was a good fight.
It was fun to watch.
It was fun to watch both how they made it and what they did.
We did see some footage of that.
And it was fun to watch the whole thing.
I mean, these two guys are, you know, two badasses, right, that have survived.
It's going to be a great fight.
Yeah.
And I was wrong.
Beta already has his two big knives.
Yeah.
And I did kind of like the way it went down because you're like in a field with nothing else around,
Bata's going to win 10 out of 10 times.
But Daryl's crafty, you know what I mean?
And he's going to do something, you know, to win because he's a crafty guy.
And he has been doing that all along, right?
I mean, he and Rick and the rest of them, there's nothing they can't do.
I thought, I totally thought my prediction on that was going to be true
and he was going to get beaten and taken as captive.
Because I saw that text come through from both of you.
And it sounded like it was something along the lines of beta got the best of them.
Oh, oh, no, I think you said if Rick was there, that wouldn't have happened or something.
This is when I want Rick Rhymes here, yeah.
Right.
And then Max, for the first time, answered a text in the group text.
Actually, it was the third.
And then kind of like added onto that.
And I was like, oh, crap.
So it was about that time where I, like, switched off and went over to the other show.
And so, and I really did expect Dog to die at this fight this week.
I'm amazed.
I really truly am amazed that that dog is still alive.
That's a crafty dog.
Daryl's made that dog survive.
It's just tough for a dog to survive in a world like that right now.
Yeah, but this is Hollywood.
They can kill people all day and be cruel to people all day long, but animals, no.
Dogs going down.
What was your favorite whisperer kill this episode?
Like in the main building, what was your favorite whisperer kill?
Oh, I don't know.
Those kills are all the, you know, they're fun to watch.
And I know Nicotiro and the rest of them all, you know, have their,
they have fun creating the different deaths and who died.
But those are just fun to watch, right?
I mean, we expect those.
The axe through the plastic was a good one.
Yeah.
That one was good.
The axe through the plastic was fun to watch.
And then there was a deaf chick there, her kill when she saw the shadow.
Do you mean Connie?
Yes.
where you see the where she sees the shadow move and then she ducks and actually slingshots
yeah that was good and you see how you just and you actually see how she could have survived
this long right but she's not survived this long with her with the little stash up on the seventh
floor in the in the in the in the floor you know on the set up on the seventh floor she's got a little
little made out cubby where she's got stuff stash she didn't survive
I don't know.
And an assault slingshot.
Right.
Yeah.
It's a high capacity slingshot right there.
Definitely a high capacity slingshot.
I'm looking at doing something.
He's doing some freaking damage with that bad boy.
I would march for our lives if I was Hilltop, Kingdom, and Alexandria.
Then, of course, Hank and, hey, Hank got stabbed in the leg.
Yeah, and then we got to drag him along.
It's time to get rid of.
They should have just let him go right then.
I literally should just, oh, look, you got stabbed.
Knife in the head.
Done.
Let's go.
What happened?
no.
There's no way.
That kid, that actor stumbled on to a piggy bank because they have to give all the
storylines that they gave to Carl, who's still a big player in the comics all to somebody.
Hank just got bequeathed it.
Of course they've changed.
Of course they had to change a little thing.
They're getting rid of him.
Like one of the most iconic scenes in the comic, Lydia Licking Carl's Eye socket.
It could still happen.
Oh, look, here's a letter that was just sent from Chandler Riggs to Hank.
What is it?
Oh, dear Hank, hang in there for a couple of years and don't ask for a raise.
Otherwise, you'll be dead.
Love Chandler.
Anything else?
No, I think that's that.
I'm looking forward to the next three weeks, though.
